Minnesota National Security Town Halls

The Minnesota Campaign for Change will host four town hall meetings across Minnesota this weekend, where Rep. Ellen Tauscher, retired U.S. Army Major General Paul Eaton, Ambassador Robert Gelbard, and Rep. Betty McCollum will discuss Barack Obama and Joe Biden’s plan to create a stronger America and a safer world, and provides the care and benefits our nation's veterans deserve.

The events are free and open to the public.

PARTICIPANTS

Rep. Ellen Tauscher (D-CA)
Rep. Ellen Tauscher (D-CA), is currently serving her sixth term representing California’s 10th Congressional district.  In Congress she is a leader on defense, homeland security and veterans’ issues and is known as one of Congress’s leading experts on nuclear nonproliferation. During the last decade as a member of the House Armed Services Committee, Rep. Tauscher has taken an active role in foreign policy and national security. In the 110th Congress, Rep. Tauscher was appointed Chairman of the Strategic Forces Subcommittee, becoming only the third woman in history to Chair an Armed Services Subcommittee.

Army Major General Paul D. Eaton (ret.)
U.S. Army Major General Paul D. Eaton (ret.), served as Commanding General of the Coalition Military Assistance Training Team where he was charged with rebuilding the Iraqi army. As a colonel in the mid 1990’s, General Eaton commanded an Army brigade in Germany and was later the assistant division commander of the 1st Armored Division. General Eaton retired in 2006 having earned several awards and decorations including the Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal, and the Legion of Merit.

Ambassador Bob Gelbard
Ambassador Bob Gelbard, served as President Clinton's Special Representative for the Balkans from 1997-1999, Ambassador to Indonesia from 1999-2001, Ambassador to Bolivia from 1988-1991, and Assistant Secretary of State from 1993-1997. Ambassador Gelbard has devoted his expertise in economics, law and diplomacy to developing and implementing numerous post-conflict strategies in Central Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa and Southeast Asia.

Rep. Betty McCollum (D-MN), is a Democrat serving her fourth term in Congress representing Minnesota’s Fourth District. In 2000, McCollum became only the second Minnesota woman elected to Congress since statehood in 1858. Prior to Congress, Betty McCollum served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 to 2000 and was elected Assistant Leader three times by her Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party colleagues. She serves on the Appropriations Committee and the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

Rep. Tim Walz (D-MN) is serving his first term in Congress representing Minnesota’s First Congressional District. He sits on three committees in the United States House of Representatives: Agriculture, Transportation and Infrastructure and Veterans Affairs. Having served as a Command Sergeant Major, upon his election Rep. Walz became the highest-ranking enlisted soldier ever to serve in Congress. He is one of nine House members to serve on the Congressional-Executive Commission on China and was the President of the Democratic Freshman Class.
