Time for a Change I am supporting Barack Obama for many reasons -- these are my top three: 1. SUBSTANCE. He is a candidate with substance, experience, and passion, with solid plans for leading progress on the Iraq war, the economy, poverty, education, healthcare, the environment and national security, as well as a women's right to choose. Here is a great website to see if you agree, you should decide for yourself: www.glassbooth.org 2. LEADERSHIP. America needs put a fresh face and new leadership in the White House and restore our global credibility. Obama has earned the respect of a diverse cross-section of political leadership at home and abroad and has the best chance of achieving progress on bipartisanship as well as working with foreign leaders towards a peaceful future. His poise, grace, intelligence and eloquence in responding to campaign attacks have impressed me greatly. His experience and accomplishments in the Illinois state legislature are a plus in understanding how Washington politics affect us locally. He is less tied to big money special interest group donors and more progressive with developing grassroots citizen involvement using tools such as these on the internet. 3. FUTURE. He is engaging the youth of America. This election is about their future, and we should encourage their continued involvement in shaping it. Barack Obama's campaign is building unprecedented grassroots momentum that is reaching across ages, gender, geography, politics and ethnicity. His message is not unlike that of Hillary's 1969 Wellesley College commencement speech about "the art of making what seems impossible, possible," but with a contemporary flair. My volunteer activisim in support of Public Education at the state level in Massachusetts has influenced my opinion in this election. Communities are hurting across America, but grassroots citizens can make a difference in creating a healthier economy, better healthcare, stronger schools and safer communities when leaders are williing to listen. Obama will be that kind of leader. We need a president who can build bridges, restore our country's reputation, and represent the interests of ordinary citizens. That's why I embraced this innovative tool, created this page and set my own personal fundraising goal to help his campaign. Let's help fuel his campaign with many small donations, in the spirit of grassroots democracy that founded this nation. You can see the progress against my goal on the nifty thermometer to the right. Will you please consider making a donation to help change our world? I would be most excited. Thanks! Carol |
