I think the picture of the duck adequately express my feelings towards financial aid. I set my fundraising goal for $1045. That's the amount I still owed for school tuition and books for the spring 2008 semester - AFTER I exhausted all my allotted financial aid (Why in the world does the government think I can take 12 credit hours per semester on $5,500 a year??) I'm lucky - I have two jobs and make a little extra each month that I can save up for things like these. Also my parents have been extremely helpful in helping me pay for my education. Unfortunately, everyone isn't as lucky as me. According to Senator Obama's plan, between 2001 and 2010, 2 million academically qualified students will not go to college because they cannot afford it. Only 12 percent of Hispanics and 16 percent of African Americans eventually earn a bachelor's degree.I support Senator Obama's plans to improve college accessibility and completion of financial aid forms (which, as anyone who's ever applied for college knows, is INSANE). |
