Change, Hope, and Patriotism

As someone who favors outcome over ideology, I think Barack Obama offers the best possible administration for the challenges facing the United States at home and abroad. The current condition calls not for a return to the policies of the past, but the first presidency of the 21st century.

There are three reasons why I've chosen to actively support Barack Obama for the Presidency of the United States.

First, he understands economics, knows politics, and can be trusted to defend American interests overseas.  Barack Obama plans to have the federal government help give Americans the insurance that they need to compete in the new economy. He also plans to limit carbon emissions, put government finances on a sounder footing, protect Social Security.  As importantly, he understands the political game — in other words, Barack Obama knows how to translate plans into action.  The great will never be the enemy of the good in an Obama administration. 

Second, I'm supporting Barack Obama because his story is quintessentially American, and not entirely unlike my own.  I grew up in New York City and worked hard to get where I am now. Though he is taller, smarter, and lacks my charming New York accent, he's a child of an immigrant, raised by a single mother, and he both knows the satisfaction that hard work can bring and understands the harm that bad luck can do.   

Finally, the most important reason is that my Brooklyn-born, Trinidad-raised, and Benjamin Cardozo H.S.-educated (oh, and Yale, and the U. of Pennsylvania) wife  believes that he's the best candidate. I trust her judgment more than  anybody's — even Barack Obama. 

So please be a great American, and help make Barack Obama the next president of the United States.
