Our Time is Now

Sen. Barack Obama and others like me are committed to changing the political process by building a campaign founded on a broad base of support from ordinary Americans. These ordinary Americans include you and me. They includes those of the forgotten demographics: the poor, the young, the old. They include the maligned and the discriminated. They include those residing in the inner cities, the suburbs and rural parts of this nation. They include the immigrants who have come to this country in search of a life far better here than one lived in their home country. And they include the Americans who have been here for generations and are dismayed by how low our country has sunk.

For me, this election is more about returning to the principle of being your brother's or sister's keeper. It is about remembering that this nation cannot flourish when a large portion of its populance is rendered irrelevant and discarded while our elected leaders play partisan politics and pander to big corporations. I want leaders who will recognize that some amount of government influence is necessary for the basic needs of this country to be met; that they were elected to represent their constituents, not themseles. And I want a president who takes into account ALL people regardless of who you are, no matter your personal ideologies, no matter how you look.

Democrats, Republicans, Green, Libertarian, Independents. Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddist, Hindu, atheist. Black, white, brown, yellow, red. Male, female. North, East, South, West. Young, old, middle. These are all differences that mean next to nothing in the grand scheme of things, but have been differences used to split coalitions and garner votes for far too long. This needs to change and this change must happen NOW.

Because I believe in this so strongly, I have come to support the presidential campaign of Sen. Barack Obama. For me, he represents what we aspire to achieve for America, what we can accomplish when we collectively work together and the progress that can be attained when partisanship is tossed aside for our common goals.

We have now shifted into general election mode and John McCain and the Republican machine will be coming after us with all they have got. If you have witnessed past presidential elections, you know that Sen. Obama's historic bid for the presidency will be met with brutal resistance. We must not become complacent and sit on our one accomplishment! Winning the primary was merely the end of one battle and the start of a far more significant war. A November 4th victory on behalf of this country is the bull's eye.

Choosing to observe rather than partake in this year's election would be a mistake. Get active and demand that we elect someone who remembers that the electorate is comprised of people who have long been misrepresented by past leadership and are no longer willing be stepped on for the betterment of a select few. The American people deserve better than what Sen. John McCain will be offering us.

I have set my own personal fundraising goal for the Obama for America campaign in an effort to see this victory come to pass. The fundraising progress themometer is located to the right.
