This movement is the culmination of our civil rights struggle.  With Dr. King and others, we marched in the streets for a government that represented us - for our own representatives.  We now have several Black Congressmen and one Black Senator.  It is time to take the next step. 

It is for us, as a people, to take charge of our destiny in America. We cannot continue to wait for others to help us. It's time to help ourselves. This campaign is not about race, however our existence in this Country and the degradation we face is all about race.

Therefore, when we are presented with a path by which to rise, we must take that path - otherwise our demise is no one's fault but our own. Here is our path to rise. Let us show this Country, and indeed the world, that we are ready to lead this Nation. Not only Barack Obama, but each and every one of us Black in America.

Historically, it was us who guided the conscience of this Country - holding it accountable to morality. It depends on us, if our great Country is to reclaim the respect it deserves, as a place where you can achieve it all. It was the humble spirit - the Christlike example - of the slave that compelled this Nation to address her character. It was the humble example of Dr. King and others, it was the strong and courageous stand of Brother Malcolm and others that caused our Nation to address her racist ways. Likewise, it's the complacency of our people that now leaves our Country a shambles.

But, we can repair our people.  We can rebuild our Nation! And, we can see it in our lifetime! This is part of our Reparations Package.  Malcolm X said that the cornerstones of American Democracy are politics and economics.

Barack Obama and I are committed to changing the political process by building a campaign built on a broad base of support from ordinary Americans. And, by changing the political process we can better our lives - so that we too, and indeed all Americans and those aspiring to be Americans, may share in the blessings of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
