But when it comes to his wife, Michelle Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee for president gets more heated.

In remarks similar to the time Obama said "lay off my wife," Obama tells Glamour magazine that spouses are "civilians" who didn't sign up for submitting to smear campaigns. He said attacks on his wife are "infuriating, but it's not surprising."

"What happened was that the conservative press--Fox News and the National Review and columnists of every ilk--went fairly deliberately at her in a pretty systematic way," Obama said.
