When I first conceived of Feminist Advisory Board for Obama, the White House Council on Women and Girls did not exist. President Obama's creation of this multi-cabinet focus on issues that affect the lives of women and children doesn't change my initial goal of making women and girls more visible to themselves and to the public. However, it adds a very interesting possibility for communication between women's movement and the Council. As I lay out on the Facebook FAB group, I'm developing several visibility projects. The existence of FAB within the OFA communications network has the potential to be a hub of discourse useful to the Council. The idea is bottom to top: here, within FAB, we discuss, we research, we educate ourselves, we share our struggles, and out of that comes an accurate picture of what our needs are, what needs to be addressed by the Council. You do not have to consider yourself feminist in order to join this group. All women are welcome, and men who consider themselves allies in movement for the rights of women, minorities and other marginalized groups are also welcome to this "think and do" tank.
