Please be patient and read through this information--it will help us to organize things.
Update Fri 2/22
--come by the house from 11am-8pm to pick up your shirt. You may pick it up in the morning, just come early.
--if you've registered after Thursday I won't have a bag set up for you--just pick out the shirt you need and take the other stuff. DIRECTIONS TO MY HOUSE
--everything will be out on the front porch, including me, most of the time. If you need something and I'm not there, knock. If I'm not home, call my mobile at 924-2200
IMPORTANT: PLEASE ONLY TAKE A SHIRT IF YOU'RE WALKING TOMORROW. I want to make sure all walkers are flying the colors. We'll order more and probably have them in by late next week.
SCHEDULE SATURDAY
Saturday 23d
6:00: Early run--7 miles at easy pace for anyone wanting a pre-walk run
8:00: Table set up; bring signup sheets, laptops, flyers, buttons, etc.
8:30: Late packet pick up--includes shirts, pledge cards, pen
9:00: Assemble for kickoff
9:15: Split into 4 Teams—hand out pledge cards, pens as needed
9:30: Split into 2 big groups and start walking!
~10:00: Assemble at Lamar/Riverside for a big group photo and to wave at cars
~10:30: Head back to Start
~11:00: Turn in pledge cards to your Team Leaders
~11:30: lunch for all us new friends at Opal Divines—another opportunity to show off—sit on the deck!

IMPORTANT: Please type in your email address in the Comments section when you sign up. If you have a GMAIL account, please send me that email address or you won't be able to edit the sheet. With your email address I can grant you access to the online spreadsheet in which you can tell me your t-shirt preference and size and volunteer to bring things we need. Since I have to get your email entered into the sheet there may be a delay before you can access it. You'll get an invite from google showing you have access.
HOW CAN I STAY INFORMED WHEN THINGS CHANGE?
Things change daily! Use My Blog or I'll email the group. As a last resort, I'll email the Austin for Obama group but I'd rather not spam them all the time.
WHAT IF I HAVE QUESTIONS?:
First of all, how about changing the way we communicate? CALL ME. It's so easy to communicate via email and yet so much more fulfilling to talk to a real person. I'm more guilty than most, which is why it's becoming more important to me. I'm a fairly polite person and sort of like to blab on the phone.

EVENT DETAILS
Please come to Town Lake trail for a really, really, fun event. We will split into 2 groups, walk 3 miles around the lake and meet up at the Lamar and Riverside intersection for a big visual presence. The goal of this and the next Walk is ambitious: 200 new donors to the campaign, via the obama website, of $20 or more for a T-shirt. To raise this money, I have ordered 200 coolmax-type, short sleeve and long sleeve cotton T-shirts that will be printed with some Obama graphics and ready for you to wear proudly. I'd of course ask each of you to donate on the site for the shirt too, but if you can't do $20 then whatever is fine. So that we can have enough shirts for people who have never registered, please make sure everyone getting a shirt is actually walking. Just having a big group of supporters wearing the shirt will be good enough. There are bathrooms close by to change into your shirt and plenty of water throughout the trail.
**This is very important to state: I bought these shirts as a donation to the campaign and do not wish to be reimbursed in any way (but I do like good beer). I will not bundle donations and send in nor will accept reimbursement from anyone. I think this will be a helluva lot better way to spend my money than to give the campaign another $500. Hey, it got you interested, right?***
We will set up 2 tables; one at "The Rock", which is our starting point and is located under the MoPac overpass off Veteran's Road near Austin High. We need non-walkers to (wo)man the tables--surely our brightest and most friendly of the group. The other table will be set up at the Lamar walkway off Riverside. This way cars and passersby will see us--people of all races and from all parts of Austin--brought together as one by the persuasive words of hope.
I reckon the kids will be able to wear the smalls or youth large sizes and PLEASE BRING YOUR KIDS AND DOGS! I will have my wife and 8 year old daughter there. My only remaining dog is too old to walk that far, unfortunately. My daughter loves to race so tell your kids to get ready to run!
So SIGN UP! You can't wait or put off getting involved any longer. Now is the right time and we really, really, need YOU. Obama needs a big turnout in Texas in anticipation of a tough fight in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO
Sign up using this form and tell me how many people will be walking. ***Also enter your email address or else you will not be able to access the spreadsheet. This spreadsheet is where you'll tell me what kind of shirt you want and what size(s). Please only order shirts for people walking so as to save them for people who have never registered.
Look at the 2 tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet and see if you can volunteer to bring or do things. If you are a studious person, we need you to be a Policy Wonk--go to that tab to learn more.
WHERE DO I PARK? WHERE DO WE START?
Take a look at View Start Point Pictures. (Note you'll have to hit your "Back" button on your browser to get back to this event listing easily). We will start on the north side of Town Lake, directly under the Mopac bridge. There is parking right across from the stretching area and the "Rock" on dirt, or you can drive about 150 yards and find the paved lot on the north side of Veterans.
WHAT IF I'M MANNING A TABLE?
A day or two before the event, I'll tell you which table (Mopac or Lamar) you're assigned to. If you are assigned to the Lamar walkway, park in the lot near the railroad bridge or right across the street. We'll set the table up right on the corner of Lamar and Riverside.

HOW DO I PAY FOR MY SHIRT?
The point is to get as many people as possible to register and donate to the campaign so that they stay informed and are given more chances to donate.
So, register on www.barackobama.com if you haven't already, and make a donation of $20.00. That's it. You're done.

Things We Still Need: Help Us Out!
1. Two Team leaders—you should know the trail route and look after your team members (30-40 people). Piece of cake. Don’t be shy
2. Official Videographer/Photographer—creative kind? You’ll compile the pictures and videos we take to create something..creative
3. Bumper stickers, pins, other giveaways
4. BIG SIGNS!!! To use when we walk around. I saw a couple of the pop art poster-signs after the marathon—very cool.
5. WONKS! Listen up! Would you stay at a table?—one or two per table, please. Would you please also get talking points to me ASAP?
Team Assignments
Because we have a large group, Team leaders will be responsible for picking up pledge cards, making sure you have and know everything you need, and basically keep you together sort of.
For the teams, if you want to walk with a friend or family member it’s of course no problem. But you see them all the time! Meet someone new.
If the last TWO digits of your home (or mobile) phone number falls in the following ranges:
00 – 25: Hawaii
26 – 50: New York
51 – 75: Chicago
76 – 99: DC
Example: My mobile number is 924-2200. So I’m in the Hawaii group.
Table Assignments
My head Wonk, Heather McKinzey, will do this at the assembly point. If you have a specific request (MoPac or Lamar) let me know and I’ll pass it on to her. Make sure to trade mobile numbers so that you know if shirts are getting low.

Thursday 21st
4pm- 6pm: Packet stuffing: Bring Pledge/Info Cards, pens, flyers--anything that should go into the packet. Team leaders should show up to coordinate, or can come by Friday. Pizza provided, byob if you want something other than water, which is fine, btw.
Friday 22d
