Obama Inauguration Caravan (Organizing)
Many of us are planning to attend Senator Obama's inauguration in January '09 (if and when he is elected; I have to say that because I'm superstitious and don't want to jinx anything!). As of now I'm planning to fly to Jersey, meet up with my son, and take the train down to D.C. However…I have a recurring vision of an Obama caravan to D.C., starting from various points in the nation, with the convergence point being D.C, of course. Think about the impact on and message for congress, PRESIDENT OBAMA and the rest of the nation! Gas prices are obviously prohibitive, but not so much if we carpool and share the cost. Drivers would have to be willing to incur the wear and tear on their cars. A decision could be made regarding whether or not to drive straight through vs. taking a couple of days to get there, hence enjoying the ride and the camaraderie. Riders and drivers would have to coordinate with each other and a larger group once established. Cars and riders/drivers could proudly display Obama gear all the way to D.C! Another option is group booking on Amtrak, something I would be happy to check out. We are the grassroots movement taking back our government and our country after years of corruption and scandal! Are we grassy enough to give something like this a try? 1700 miles from Denver to D.C. 2800 miles from Seattle to D.C. 2700 miles from LA to D.C. 1400 miles from Dallas to D.C. 1000 miles from Miami to D.C. I know some of us are atheists and I mean no disrespect by including the lyrics to this song. For me, the song invokes images of joy, peace, optimism, and faith that YES, WE CAN! So…is this something of interest to others around the nation?
