East Bay Camp Obama (Organizing)
Join us for Camp Obama, the volunteer-run Camp Obama training session for activists and team leaders
The millions of people who have come together to support the historic candidacy of Senator Barack Obama share a common goal: we all hope for a better future for our communities and our country. How has the campaign successfully turned that hope into actions and real political power? The answer is in the strength of our local organizing teams and the energy of countless dedicated volunteers. Those networks of volunteer teams didn't come from nowhere—they were built from the ground up by the tireless efforts of community organizers. Now is your chance to join the movement and be a part of the change you want to see!
"Camp Obama" was created by veteran political and community organizers to train activists in effective organizing techniques. This past summer and fall, the campaign ran "Camp Obama" training sessions in major urban areas all around the country. Here in the Bay Area, our organizational structure served as a model for the rest of California. As we prepare ourselves for the next phase in the road to the White House, we will refine and expand the neighborhood team model to include more cities and more enthusiastic Obama supporters.
Some of the skills you will learn:
• Relationship building
• Volunteer recruitment
• How to communicate your reasons for supporting Obama
• How to phone bank and run a phone banking party from your home
• Data management
• Securing and managing resources
• Outreach to members of your community
