Forum on Faith & Politics (Fort Greene/Clinton Hill) (Meeting)
"Our values should express themselves not just through our churches or synagogues, temples or mosques; they should express themselves through our government. Because whether it's poverty or racism, the uninsured or the unemployed, war or peace, the challenges we face today are not simply technical problems in search of the perfect ten-point plan. They are moral problems…And so long as we're not doing everything in our personal and collective power to solve them, we know the conscience of our nation cannot rest." -- Barack Obama
In the first in a series of neighborhood forums, we will tackle head-on the issues of religion and politics. We'll talk about how we translate values rooted in our faith into universal principles, and what Barack Obama has added to this critical conversation.
These forums are a chance for people of any faith (or non-faith) to come together and discuss the role of religious values in public life. Barack often talks openly about both his own personal journey to his Christian faith and the uncertainties involved in religious belief.
Come and join in the discussion, or just listen and contemplate your own feelings on these issues.
Whether you can make it or not, you can learn more about Barack-- and how he translates his values into public discourse-- by visiting htttp://faith.barackobama.com or by emailing us at faith@nyc4obama.com.
