Obama "Bridge" Rally (Women for Obama)
Obama supporters around the world have been gathering at famous or scenic bridges to show their support for Barack Obama. Already hundreds of "bridge" rallies have been held in 40 countries and in five continents. Our group will assemble at the north end of Marina Jack's parking lot (PLEASE CARPOOL) at 11:30 a.m., and march up the west side of Gulfstream Avenue, across the Ringling Bridge, and then return. Suggested attire is khaki bottoms with red, white or blue tops (Obama T-shirts fine too!) and comfortable walking shoes. Bring homemade or campaign signs. There will be a limited number available for those who need them. Suggestion: wear sunscreen and bring a bottle of water.
Why a bridge? Bridges unite two sides and connect people. We don't want a "bridge to nowhere" or "more of the same" - we want a bridge to a better future. And Obama himself used the bridge imagery in his speech accepting the nomination in November, calling on us all to have the "strength and grace to bridge the divides" in our society.
And yes, men and children are welcome too! Also, if you can't walk the distance, you can stand with a sign somewhere along our route.
