Stand Up For Kids: Harbor City High School Art and Fashion Show (Community Service)
hi folks some time ago, i wrote with an appeal to start thinking beyond the election this november and think about some of the ways we can channel this tremendous energy and enthusiasm beyond the campaign to bring about the change to our country that Obama talks about. Stand Up For Kids runs a tutoring/mentoring program at Harbor City High School, a school in baltimore in which 90 percent of the students live below the poverty level, half have kids of their own and many are without parents and/or stable home situtations. SUFK is helping the Harbor City students put on an art and fashion show to help them raise funds for school activities. This is THE ONLY ACTIVITY/EVENT that the students have participated in all year, but they need our help. On Sunday, June 22nd StandUp For Kids- Baltimore is holding a City Wide Art & Fashion Show at the Sonar Club (www.sonarbaltimore.com) from 2-5pm. Harbor City Students enrolled in the StandUp For Kids tutoring program are involved with the fashion show (they are designing, sewing, modeling, etc). All the youth involved with this event are very excited to be able to perform in front of a large audience. Volunteers are needed to help make this event a success. Please let me know if you prefer to volunteer backstage (stagehands wear all black). It would be great if you could sign up for two (2) thirty minute time slots. We also need help setting up for the event and cleaning up afterwards. Please do not sign-up unless you can commit to attend!
