Generation Obama National Retreat and Day of Service (Community Service)
Generation Obama leaders and members will converge on New Orleans for a day of service helping to rehabilitate housing in areas still devastated by Hurricane Katrina. While there, we will also participate in workshops on event planning, future service progress and a national agenda. NATIONAL GO RETREAT & DAY OF SERVICE AGENDA New Orleans, Louisiana July 18 – 20, 2008 Friday, July 18 4:00 Tour of Areas Flooded by Katrina EDOLA’s Rebuild coordinator Katie Mears and Homeowner Coordinator Amanda Davis will lead a tour of the areas of New Orleans still devastated by Hurricane Katrina. 6:00 p.m. Happy Hour Meet fellow GO leaders and members from across the country in the Lobby of the Marriott Canal Street. Saturday, July 19 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Service in Lower Ninth Ward with EDOLA Meet in lobby of Marriott. Transportation will be provided to and from the work site. Please bring water. Tools will be provided by EDOLA. 4:30 – 5:15 p.m. Event Planning Workshop Jared Asch Planning events geared towards recruiting and engaging young professionals new to the political process. 5:15 – 6:00 Fundraising Workshop Jeremy Goldberg The basics of fundraising in small and large dollar amounts – who to ask, how to ask and why you should be asking. 6:00 p.m. Happy Hour Our local Obama supporters will show us the town. Sunday, July 20 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. GO Chapter Building Jared Asch How to build a GO chapter from scratch. How to form a steering committer, where to find resources, how to contact local staff to coordinate field activities, and how to plan your first event. 10:45 – 11:00 a.m. Field Organization/Voter Registration Drives Connecting with local campaign staff to coordinate field activities, ensuring that GO chapters are helping staff meet regional goals in voter registration and coordinating Get Out the Vote (GOTV) efforts.
