I promise this will be a short campaign with few emails....below is some background: On Saturday, June 14th, the Virginia Democrats will be electing their final group of delegates to go to the Democratic National Convention in August. Jim McBride will represent the thousands of young activists and millions of young voters that helped deliver the nomination for Senator Obama in Virginia and beyond! • Jim McBride and fellow 18-35 year olds comprised over 20% of Virginia Democratic Primary voters and exit polls show that on average they supported Senator Obama by a 3-to-1 margin and fueled Obama’s 3rd best performance of 33 state primary contests (64-35%). • Jim McBride and Generation “O” are leading this Movement for Change, as the most progressive and diverse generation ever is utilizing a blend of technology and idealism to build the most successful grassroots campaign in history. • Jim McBride will lead the effort to utilize Generation O’s social networking skills at the DNC Convention so we can arrive as Obama and Clinton Delegates but leave as United Democrats. • The DNC is making an effort toward more fair age diversity in 2008, so let’s do our part to ensure that our young people are fairly represented in the Commonwealth’s delegation so they can become the leaders of 2012. Leadership Roles: Chief Volunteer Database Coordinator, Virginia for Obama Phone Bank Coordinator, Northern Virginia Headquarters Founder, Generation Obama-DC/VA chapter (1,200+ members) Vice Chair of Precinct Operations, Arlington Democrats Fmr. President, Arlington Young Democrats (grew 50% in 2007) Founder, Generation Webb (2006) Virginia Primary Highlights: • Despite the presence of Clinton Nat’l HQ in Arlington, spearheaded weekly phone banks (30-100 attendees) and email updates, plus trained dozens of statewide database users, that reached thousands of Virginia volunteers via the Build The Hope database, My.BarackObama.com and many social networking/online media outlets. Obama won the county by 26 points. • Developed volunteer scripts/surveys and voter literature, organized a team of campaign database outreach leaders and phone bank captains, and served as volunteer liaison for Northern Virginia headquarters activities. • Hosted Virginia events such as an Iowa Caucus/Virginia Primary Kickoff Recruitment Party with 300+ attendees (covered by WTTG-TV, WRC-TV, WAMU-AM and U.S. News), a Super Tuesday Fundraising Party that raised $5,200 (only $20 per person), a Victory Party featuring Congressman Jim Moran (covered by the Washington Times) as well as a Generation Obama Launch Party in Arlington. • Spearheaded a “Bid on Your Crush FOR Obama” Date Auction (raised $1,700), Post-Obama Rally Recruitment Happy Hour and a “Barack The Bars” Metro-Area Nightlife Visibility Tour in DC. • Supported Obama events and activities at Young Democrats of America Convention in Dallas and Fall Conference in Manchester, NH.
