Youth Basketball Tournament (Community Service)
This Obama Works sponsored community event has a twofold purpose. First: to support local community efforts to bring children off the streets into an organized activity. Second: to educate the youth, parents, and spectators regarding Senator Obama’s background in community organizing and his vision of the role that service will play in the bottom up change and renewal that will be a vital part of his presidency. York City teams in four age groups will compete against Harrisburg teams in this all day event. Speakers from the community and the campaign, including local politicians (to be confirmed), will speak (for five to eight minutes each) to kick off the event and between games. There will be an inspirational rap group performing. Voter registration and Barack Obama information will be available. And as an additional service element, Obama Works Volunteers will sweep the park during the event. That’s what we do!
