Washington Voting Rules
Voter Registration Form:
Forms can be found here.
Deadline to Register:
By mail or online is 30 days before an election (October 5) and by person 15 days before (October 20).
Voter Eligibility:
: A citizen of the United States, a legal resident of Washington State, and at least 18 years old by election day and not presently denied your civil rights due to a felony conviction or judicially declared mentally incompetent and ineligible to vote.
Identification Requirements:
To register online you must have a drivers license or a State ID card. If you don’t have either of these you must register using a paper voter registration form. If you do this you will be required to show one of these when you vote; valid photo ID, valid tribal ID of a federally recognized Indian tribe in Washington State, copy of a current utility bill, current bank statement, copy of a current government check, copy of a current paycheck, a government document that shows both your name and address.
Where to Turn in Your Registration:
It can be submitted online and paper voter registration forms can be sent to county auditors.
How to Register Others:
Voter Registration drives are permitted in WA State. It is recommended that completed forms be submitted weekly, by mail or in person, to the local elections office or Secretary of State’s Office. They need to be submitted by the deadlines listed above. There are no trainings required.
Absentee Voting:
37 of Washington's 39 counties vote by mail. Pierce County and King County still have voting at the polls. They can be contacted here. An absentee ballot may be requested from the voter's County Auditor's Office by phone, mail, fax, electronically, or in person.
Dates: Absentee ballots must be postmarked or delivered to the county election officer on or before Election Day.
