Our Strategy in Pennsylvania
Many incredible volunteers have been organizing in Pennsylvania since last February when Senator Obama first announced his candidacy. Our strategy in Pennsylvania is to organize as Senator Obama did on the South Side of Chicago when he was a community organizer and as many of you have already started to do, bringing neighbors together to build relationships and take ownership of their communities.
The first phase of our Pennsylvania campaign is Voter Registration until March 24th. During this Voter Registration Drive our focus will be to register new Democrats (including new registrants and currently registered Independents/Unaffiliated voters who need to register as Democrats to vote on April 22) by:
Developing neighborhood leaders to carry out the campaign.
Leaders are those who enable others to achieve purpose in the face of uncertainty. Leaders tell their own stories of where they come from and why they feel called to this work, as Barack did in his 2004 Democratic Convention speech. Leaders also create clear strategies and opportunities for others to step up and take responsibility.
Organizing leaders into Obama teams.
Working on a campaign by yourself can be hard, lonely, and often ineffective. Our aim is to help leaders build local neighborhood teams to strategize and carry out actions together to help sustain and expand our leadership base and meet our campaign goals. This is the strategy that helped us secure a dramatic win in South Carolina on January 26th.
Carrying out a strategic campaign with clear goals and accountability.
Each County and each Obama Team will have clear voter registration goals. If each team meets their goal we will have made history in the state of Pennsylvania. To meet our goals we will hold each other accountable by closely tracking how many voter registration forms we have collected, and how many we have still to collect.
Thank you for stepping up for your neighborhood, for Pennsylvania and for our country. Together we can change Pennsylvania and this country. Yes We Can!
