Nevada Voting Rules

Deadline to Register by Mail:
One month before the general election (October 4)
Voter Eligibility:
Must be 18 years of age or over, a U.S. Citizen and a resident of Nevada for 30 days preceding any election. Any person who has been declared by a court to be mentally incompetent is not eligible to register and vote. Felons who have not been restored to their civil rights are not eligible to register and vote; however, recent legislation has provided for automatic restoration of the right to vote for those who have been honorably discharged from prison, probation or parole, with certain exceptions related to the seriousness of the crime committed.
Identification Requirements:
Current Nevada Driver's License, current Nevada State Identification Card, rent receipt with pre-printed address, bank statement or pre-printed check, credit card statement, car registration or proof of insurance, government document, or current utility bill.

Voter Registration Cards: Anytime an individual or organization requests 50 or more voter registration applications, they must first submit a Mail Distribution Plan. It is required whether requesting voter registration applications from the respective County Clerk/Registrar or from the NV S.O.S. website.
What types of Voter Registration Applications are accepted?
a. Only the NV S.O.S. prescribed official NV Voter Registration Application and federally authorized voter registration applications will be accepted in the State of Nevada.
b. Federally authorized forms include the National Voter Registration Form and military/overseas citizen voter registration
Where are the VR Applications returned?
a. When the registration drive is complete, all forms, both completed and uncompleted, must be returned to the respective county clerk
b. You must print your name in the designated area of the applicant’s receipt at the bottom of the NV Voter Registration Application
Information required to be shared with Registration Applicants - Completed registration applications must be received by the respective county clerk/registrar of voters before the close of registration in order for the applicant to be registered for the coming election. Actual registration will not become effective until the application is verified by the county clerk/registrar of voters. If you retain the applicant’s completed application to submit on behalf of the applicant, you must print your name in the designated area of the applicant’s receipt at the bottom of the Nevada Voter Registration Application. Applications left in the custody of the person or organization conducting the drive must be returned to the county clerk/registrar within ten (10) days.
In conducting a voter registration drive, an individual or organization may NOT:
1. Bribe, offer to bribe or use any other corrupt means to influence any elector in giving his voter or to deter him from giving it
2. Expose or threaten to expose any fact concerning another in order to compel other to vote or refrain from voting for any candidate or measure
3. Impede the free exercise of the franchise by any voter, or thereby to compel, induce any elector to refrain from giving his vote
4. Willfully give false answers to questions propounded by the registrar or field registrar of voters relating to the information called for by the application to register to vote
5. Knowingly encourage another person to willfully falsify his application or violate any of the provisions of the election laws of NV
6. Falsify an application to register to vote; cause an application to be falsified; or provide compensation for a falsified application to register to vote
7. Provide compensation for registering voters based on total number of voters a person registers or the total number of voters a person registers in a particular political party
8. Fully fill out or help fill out someone’s voter reg. application without signing the section for assistance with application
9. Register someone if they do not wish to be registered
Absentee Voting:
Any registered voter may request to vote by mail. To request an absent ballot, you must complete and submit an absent ballot request form, which may be obtained from your local county election official here. If you are a resident of Clark County, you may obtain the form from their website here. The absent ballot request form must be received by your local county election official by the appropriate deadline. We recommend that you submit your request form early to allow enough time to receive your ballot and mail your voted ballot back to your County Clerk/Registrar's office. All absent ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on Election Day in order to be counted.
