Massachusetts Voting Rules
Voter Registration Form:
Voter registration forms are not available online, but they can be requested in bulk by calling the Massachusetts Election Division at 1-800-462-VOTE(8683).
Deadline to Register:
20 days prior to the election (Oct 15, 2008).
Voter Eligibility:
In order to register to vote in Massachusetts, individuals must be: a US citizen; a resident of Massachusetts; at least 18 years of age on Election Day.
Identification Requirements:
Individuals are not required to send identification with voter registration, but may be asked to provide identification at the polls.
Where to Turn in Your Registration:
Registration forms can be mailed or hand delivered to the voter’s local City/Town Hall. A list of City/Town Halls can be found at here.
How to Register Others:
There are no specific-state regulations to register voters.
Absentee Voting:
Absentee voting is available. Excuses are required.
Registered voters may vote absentee if they:
• Will be absent from his/her city or town on Election Day, OR
• Holds religious beliefs that prevent him/her from voting on Election Day, OR
• Has a physical disability preventing him/her from voting at the polling place

Applications to vote absentee are due at noon the day before the election (Nov 3, 2008). Absentee ballots are available starting three weeks prior to the election and must be turned in by 8pm on Election Day.
Early Vote:
No early voting is available.
