Last Call for Change:
Phonebank Host Guide

Help reach out to voters in key battleground states by hosting a Last Call for Change Houseparty on Wednesday, October 29.

Gather your friends, family and neighbors at your house to make calls and watch Barack's historic broadcast that will be airing on Wednesday, October 29 on several major networks:

*NBC/CBS/Univision/BET: 8:00 PM ET/PT, 7:00 PM CT/MT
*FOX: 8:00 PM ET, 7:00 PM CT; 7:00 PM MT, 8:00 PM PT or immediately following World Series Game 6 (if necessary)
*MSNBC/TV One: 8:00 PM ET, 7:00 PM CT, 6:00 PM MT, 5:00 PM PT

Don't worry if you've never hosted a phonebank before. We will be holding a special conference call for Last Call for Change hosts on Tuesday, October 28 at 8:30 ET. RSVP now to get the the call-in information.

In the meantime, this guide will provide you with all the tools and resources you need to host a successful Last Call for Change Houseparty. Even if you have hosted past phonebanks with Neighbor to Neighbor, be sure to read through all the sections, since we are changing how you get your call lists (see Step 4 on the Before section).

Step 1: Register your Event

Take a moment to register your event online. Posting your event online means you can get your own web page for your event, invite others to your event, track RSVPs and send details and reminders to the attendees. Be sure to select "Phone Bank" for the event type and set the event date for Wednesday, October 29.

Step 2: Invite Friends, Neighbors, and Colleagues

Start with people you know. Think about friends, family, colleagues and neighbors, despite their political affiliation or past political involvement. Aim to invite a few dozen people to your event, and try to ensure you have at least 15-20 people there to attend your event.

You may also want to reach out to your larger community. You can find your local My.BarackObama group and invite members to attend by emailing the group’s listserv. You can create your own event flyers and post them at your local coffee shop, grocery store, or library.

Encourage all of the people you invite to RSVP for your event so you know how many people to expect. Also, don’t forget to send an email to all of your attendees using the Email Attendees link on the Manage Your Events page a day or two before your event to remind everyone of the event’s details.

Step 3: Learn How to Use Neighbor to Neighbor

To lead a successful phonebank, you should begin by becoming familiar with our Neighbor to Neighbor call tool. Go to "Create Account" and choose your preferred email address. If you already have a My.BarackObama account, please log in directly with your username and password. Make sure you record your log-in information for future use.

To learn more about Neighbor to Neighbor, and to help your event attendees learn more, please view our training video about calling with Neighbor to Neighbor.

Step 4: Print your Call Lists

As a host, you have access to the following special calling campaigns that allow you to check out 300 voters to contact at your phonebank. Select what state calling campaign you would like to participate in:

Oct. 29 House Party Hosts: Pennsylvania
Oct. 29 House Party Hosts: Indiana
Oct. 29 House Party Hosts: Ohio
Oct. 29 House Party Hosts: North Carolina
Oct. 29 House Party Hosts: Colorado

You will need to print off the call sheets before your attendees arrive. If you check out 300 voters, expect to print about 100 sheets of paper. If you don't have a printer or you feel this is too much to print out from your personal printer, go to your local Kinkos to have them print the call lists.

Step 5: Gather the Rest of your Materials

Event Flyers
Create a personalized event flyer.

Sign-in Sheets
Use this sheet to have all your guests sign in.

Issue Flyers
Think about printing out flyers detailing Barack’s positions on important issues.

Suggested Agenda

You should allow about three hours for a successful Last Call for Change Houseparty. This time includes signing in your event attendees, call time, watching Barack's TV spot and entering in your call results. Barack's special 30-minute T.V. address will air on:

*NBC/CBS/Univision/BET: 8:00 PM ET/PT, 7:00 PM CT/MT
*FOX: 8:00 PM ET, 7:00 PM CT; 7:00 PM MT, 8:00 PM PT or immediately following World Series Game 6 (if necessary)
*MSNBC/TV One: 8:00 PM ET, 7:00 PM CT, 6:00 PM MT, 5:00 PM PT

Please schedule around the scheduled broadcast time, so your guests are able to watch it - either before, during or after when you make calls.

0:00 Guest Sign-in
Make sure everyone signs in. Wait a few minutes to get started to make sure you don't miss anyone who might be running a few minutes late.

0:05 Welcome from Host
Introduce yourself and share your story. What inspired you to get involved in the campaign and why are you hosting this event? What are one or two experiences in your life that led you to take leadership in this campaign? Then outline what you have planned for your phonebank and what you hope to get out of it. How many people are you trying to reach? How many people would you like each attendee to personally contact?

0:10 Group Introductions
Have everyone introduce themselves and share their own story about what inspired them to get involved. Build as much camaraderie as possible, and have fun getting to know other supporters.

0:20 Training
You can view a training video on the Neighbor to Neighbor call tool from your computer during the event.

0:30 Begin Making Calls

2:00 Watch Barack's Historic Broadcast
Tune into FOX, CBS and NBC to watch Barack's 30-minute broadcast. He will use the time to define the principles and priorities of an Obama administration, outline steps to reverse the damage done over the last eight years and present a plan for addressing long-standing challenges that have gone unanswered for too long.

2:30 Gather Together and Enter Your Results
When you're done contacting voters, it is essential that you log back into Neighbor to Neighbor account and have everyone enter their results. You can click on "Make Calls Now" and click on the "make call" button next to a voter's name to enter in your results.

Entering in your results will help us to lead a more efficient, productive campaign and learn more about the voters we are trying to reach.

2:50 Wrap Up

Thank guests for coming and plan the next time you are all available to meet again.

This agenda is meant only to be a suggestion to guide you in your activities. Feel free to organize your phonebank according to your preferences.
