Kansas Voting Rules
Voter Registration Form:

Deadline to Register:
15 days prior to the election (Oct 20, 2008).
Voter Eligibility:
To register to vote an individual must: be a United States citizen; be a resident of the state of Kansas; be at least 18 years of age prior to Election Day; have received final discharge from imprisonment, parole, or conditional release if convicted of a felony; have abandoned their former residence and/or name.
Identification Requirements:
Individuals must fill out the driver’s license section of the voter registration or provide the last four digits of their social security number on the voter registration form. If neither is provided, the individual must provide a copy of identification by mail prior to the election or bring identification to the polls on Election Day. Acceptable ID includes: a copy of a current, valid photo ID, or a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, government check, or other government document that shows their name and address.
Where to Turn in Your Registration:
Voter registration forms should be mailed or hand delivered to the voter’s local County Election Office. A list of Kansas Election Offices can be found here.
Faxed and electronic versions are not accepted.
How to Register Others:
All voter registration applications must be turned in the voter’s local Kansas Election Office no later than 48 hours after completion of the form. There are no other regulations involved in registering others to vote.
Absentee Voting:
Any registered voter can vote absentee. No excuses are necessary.
Application Process: Application for an “advance voting ballot” (absentee ballot) can be found here.
Applications should be returned to the voter’s local County Election Office. A list of Kansas Election Offices can be found here.
Dates: Absentee ballots must be returned to the voter’s local County Election Office either by mail or by hand by the time the polls close on Election Day.
Early Vote:
Any registered voter can vote early in person. No excuses are necessary.
Dates: Registered voters may vote early at their local County Election Office. Offices have varying dates for early voting raging from 20 days prior to the election to one week prior to the election. Check with local County Election Offices for specific dates. A list of Kansas Election Offices can be found here.
