Do you feel like you want to get involved in the political process but you don’t know how? Do you feel like there’s something important coming up in the Presidential elections? Get involved in KIDS FOR OBAMA! Studies have shown that kids can affect their parents and their siblings’ opinions and even change the opinions of older family members . . . including those of voting age. Are you still with me? Great, Let’s get started!

Step 1: Invitations

Hey Obama Enthusiast! Thanks for hosting this awesome event! The first step to any party is making invitations. They should be colorful and appealing to the eye. Here is an example:

Step 2: Advertising

This part is key. For the Chicago kickoff of Kids for Obama, we posted invitations all over town; grocery stores, coffee shops, and book stores; wherever you can find a public bulletin board. Be sure to ask permission from the store manager.

Invitations can be handed out at parades and local events. Send emails to friends and family and invite them to your party. Sports teams, religious groups, and book clubs can also be invited. Also, let the campaign know so that news of your event can be put on the website. Try to contact your local newspaper to get the media involved. SPREAD THE WORD!

Step 3: Planning

Your party should be a lot of fun! Ask kids to draw a picture of Barack Obama or what America means to them. These pictures could be used on campaign buttons and/or bumper stickers. It’s a great way to get kids involved!

Step 4: PARTY!

Kids for Obama PartyThe best part of all this is the party! All your hard work will pay off! We found that it was really cool to watch all the different drawings being made. We love knowing the staff has decorated Obama Headquarters with these pictures. As people come into the party, take down their name for a myBO page. A myBO page is a place where kids and people of all ages can exchange ideas on the Obama campaign. Invite your guests to sign up for a myBO page. Be sure to ask parents for permission. It’s a great way to stay involved after your event is over. Enjoy yourself!

Step 5: Follow Up

Once you’ve hosted this event you will find that you’ve become really dedicated to the cause. You’ll find that you’ve made new friends and that the news comes alive! We’ll love to hear how your event went! Write to me and click here to check out my blog.

Good Luck!
