When and where is the convention?
The Democratic National Convention will be held at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado from August 25-28, 2008.
Will the campaign help me pay to go to Denver?
No. The campaign will not provide financial assistance to any delegate or alternate to the convention.
Can I fundraise to help me pay to go to the convention?
Yes. Your state party will have information and guidelines regarding fundraising for your trip to Denver. Please contact your state party headquarters for more information as well as click here to read our summary of guidelines from the FEC.
What is my role at the convention?
You have been selected as a pledged delegate for Senator Barack Obama. As a delegate, you will vote on the official convention business including the Presidential nominee of the Democratic Party.
What will I be doing at the convention?
The convention is full of activities for delegates. Your typical day will begin with a state delegation breakfast typically followed by opportunities to attend caucus meetings and trainings. The official convention business usually begins mid-afternoon of each day. You will receive a detailed schedule of events before the convention.
Do alternates attend the convention?
Yes, alternates do attend the convention. You will have a credential for entrance into the convention hall.
What can I do to help the campaign now?
We have many volunteer opportunities in your state. We always need volunteers to help make phone calls, work to register voters in your own community, or help plan events. What do I do when a reporter calls?
As we move closer to the convention, the media will want to hear your story about being a delegate to the national convention. At this time as we work to close out the nomination, we would like for our delegates and alternates to refrain from speaking to the press. When will I get information about the convention?
The DNC will be sending you information regarding accommodations, schedule of events, and other information regarding the convention. You can also contact your state party for more information on the plan for your state’s delegation.
Who do I contact if I have questions about this process?
Each delegate to the Democratic National Convention has been assigned to an individual at the Obama for America Campaign. This person can answer all questions or direct you to other people within the campaign to assist in quickly meeting your needs.
