My.BarackObama Group Fundraising
How to Use Your Group Fundraising Page
Group fundraising is a great new feature on My.BarackObama.com that allows you to collaborate with members of your My.BarackObama group on a fundraising goal and track your progress as a group.
As a member of a group with a fundraising page, you’ll be able to:
- View your group’s personalized fundraising page, fundraising goal, and how close your group is to achieving it.
- Easily send emails to friends and family asking them to donate to your group page.
- Receive reminders and keep track of which of your friends and family have made a donation.
- Work with members of your group to meet (or exceed!) your fundraising goal.
Note: While every member can use your group fundraising page, only your group administrator can edit the default settings. Please ask your administrator to personalize the text, photo and fundraising goal on your group fundraising page. While not necessary, the more compelling the message on your group page is, the more likely someone will make a donation.
Getting Started
You can view your group fundraising page by going to your My.BarackObama group page and looking for the fundraising thermometer. It will look similar to this:
Click on the thermometer to get started. You will see the following:
Sending Invitations
You can invite friends to donate either by automatically importing your contacts from your address book or by manually entering their names and email addresses. Click on “Click here to send invitations now” to get started. You will see the following screen:
Option 1: Importing Contacts From Your Personal Address Book
By selecting this option you can access all of the emails you have stored in your Gmail, Yahoo!, Hotmail or AOL email account. You will need your email and password to search for your contacts, but none of this information (nor the emails in your address book) will be stored by the campaign. Just select which contacts you would like to email and their emails will automatically be added to your list.
Option 2: Manually Entering Your Contacts’ Email Addresses
By selecting this option, you can manually type in the email addresses of friends and family you would like to send invites to donate to your group fundraising page.
Once you have loaded or entered in your contacts’ email addresses take a moment to send a personal message to them. The text in the message box is there just to get you started. The more personal you make your message the more impact it will have on the person who receives it. You can send as many invitations as you would like. You can send the same message to lots of your friends, or you can send a personal message to each of your friends.
Once your message is ready, click “send invitation” and congratulate yourself on spreading the message of hope!
Managing Your Invitations
The thermometer on your group page will continue to rise as more and more people make donations. On the bottom of your screen under Address Book, you will see a list of everyone you have invited to donate to your group fundraising page:
Under each person’s name is a series of steps that will help you track your invitation and their donation:- Step 1 has already been completed. The green highlighted box shows you the date that you solicited a donation from your friend.
- Step 2 tells you to send out a reminder to friends four days after you have invited them. If you check your group fundraising page in four days (and the individual has not yet donated), this box will be highlighted in order to prompt you to send out a reminder email.
- Step 3 will be highlighted once the person has donated, giving you an easy way to see who has donated and who has not. You will also receive an email notification when one of your contacts makes a donation through your page.
- Step 4 will be highlighted after your friend makes a donation in order to remind you to send a thank you note. Thank you text will already be provided for you, but fell free to personalize your message.
This movement is built one person at a time. Every invitation you send and every donation you receive brings Barack one step closer to the White House and brings our country one step closer to real change. Thanks for all of your hard work!
