"Hope in the Heartland" is based on a notion that Barack Obama himself often repeats: "This campaign isn't about me... It's about you." Everyone has their own personal reason for being a part of this. Elections, for better or worse, bring people with drastically different life stories and philosophies in close contact with one another. Whether they're organizing for the same cause, or interacting at the doors or on the phones, it is undeniable that people have their own particular stories, and these stories inform their vote and their support for one candidate or another. In "Hope in the Heartland" we bring these stories out, and Ohio, as a microcosm of America, is where we find them.

EPISODE 1: "Jason" (25:38)

Jason is a volunteer in Toledo, who grew up in California with a single mother. An unexpected tragedy early in life ensures that growing up won't be normal. From start to finish, Jason's story has had many twists and turns, from rich to poor, from tragedy to hope and back again... But at its heart, his story is about his mother. And about reclaiming all that life throws at you, and turning it into a good thing.
