It’s Go Time
You’re hosting an event on Saturday, and you need to get prepared. Here’s a step-by-step guide to what you need to do in the days leading up to your event.
This Week
- Email the attendees of your event to remind them that they’ve signed up and give them any last-minute details. Click on your June 9 event in the list on the Manage My Events page and select the button to “Email attendees.”
- Make maps of the area you’re planning on walking. You can get maps of local neighborhoods online. Google Maps is an especially detailed, free resource.
On Saturday
For suggestions on how to structure your day, check out our canvass day agenda in the resource center.
- Prepare your site by putting out your sign-up sheet and organizing the resources the campaign has sent you.
- Welcome the group to the event and speak about the goals of the day—talking to as many neighbors as possible about why you support Barack Obama.
- Watch the online training video.
- Discuss the campaign-provided materials: Canvassing Dos and Don’ts, the literature on who Barack Obama is, and the script. For events with five attendees, all of this should be included in the boxes sent by the campaign. For those who do not have five attendees, you can use the online version of the resources from the Resource Center
- Distribute materials to the group and get them moving. Be sure to set a time for the group to reconvene.
- Collect any supporter cards and remit envelopes that have been completed and thank everyone for their hard work.
Afterward
- Send back to the campaign the supporter cards and envelopes collected.
- Email your attendees a note to thank them.
