The accident killed 18 people
At least 18 people died today, April 17, in the south-east of Mexico in a collision of two buses.

As reported by Agence France-Presse, citing the police, the incident took place in Chiapas. The bus with tourists drove into the oncoming traffic and collided with a bus.

"According to first data, 18 people were killed and 66 wounded in two buses," - said the representative of the local branch of the Red Cross Rigoberto Garcia, adding that among those killed, 11 women and two children.

Well,hi everybody.You know,I'm from a country(Hungary),which has seen better days than these ones.And I haven't come from a wealthy family.But I was born to be optimistic till I die.And the victory of Pres Obama shows us:it's worth to be optimistic.

I was so happy to have a black president from the first moments.I love paradighma-changes,love to be different,tolerate different people.For that it's good to live in the capital(Budapest),because the little village I have come from was too small for this kinda person.When I was a little child,I'd love to live in New York,Washington e.t.c.Now I want to live here ,even if it's hard.It's my home,you know..My parents also live here.Of course,wherever I will live in my life,I mean it with my close family:my husband(from 1992)and our three children..

We in this country are the same people as you so far away.We can't really change things.Or perhaps,some day..Live our lives.And are happy about good changes-here or there.

Our country is so beautiful!You even can't imagine.And the capital-the middle of it,with the two picturesque riverbanks-is mentioned like the most beautiful capitals of Europe!You really don't believe me,do you?Of course there are a lot of things that doesn't show us in a good light,but the main thing hasn't changed.If anyone of you can come here,come-and we will show you around.

From Hillary Supporter to Obama Team Leader

Ever since June, dedicated volunteers have been hitting the doors and the phones on behalf of Barack in the general election. Through events like Unite for Change parties, and Women to Women meetings, former Hillary supporters have smoothly transitioned to become an integral part of our effort, and they bring a drive and dedication to changing this country that is truly admirable.

Some have even stepped up to become leaders. An organizer describes one such amazing woman, Robin, in Toledo:

Robin was a huge supporter of Senator Clinton in the primaries, travelling to four states, working, in her words, "thousands of hours," to make the change we need in this country. After the primaries ended, Robin was disappointed, but knew that she needed to help Barack...
Over the last several weeks, Robin has held a Unite for Change House Meeting where Hillary supporters got a chance to clear the air and move forward. She has made hundreds of calls to Hillary supporters from the primary, and my friends, I have never seen so many undecideds turn into supporters in my life. Robin is essentially single-handedly unifying her area of Toledo. Several days ago Robin got 5 Hillary supporters from the primary to come to the office, she trained them on Unity calls (as she calls them), and had a three hour Unite for Change phone bank.

Robin...has been an inspiration to me, by helping ensure that Democrats will be united to make history in November. And thank goodness the primaries are over, so I get to work with the wonderful Hillary supporters like Robin.

When a local mix of residents combine their grassroots passion with progressive ideas what do you get? A good old fashion picnic with a tried and true StarBucks concept, a PICNIC IN THE PARK Drive-Thru Voter Registration & Meet The Candidates Event, SUNDAY, AUGUST 17th 2pm-7pm at Tualatin Community Park, Tualatin. It's an old fashion POTLUCK and it's BYOB - bring your own BBQ meats, beverages and beach chairs.

Congressional Senate Candidate, Jeff Merkley is a special guest and will talk one-on-one with picnickers as a key stop in the Tualatin/Tigard community part of his 100 Towns Tour for Change across Oregon. Tigard Representative, Larry Galizio is the key note speaker. Local candidates Jessica Adamson (Sherwood/ Wilsonville) and Jeff Barker (Aloha) will also join in the afternoon festivities.

The event following on the heels of the the Annual Tualatin Crawfish Festival a week prior serves up a fun relaxing afternoon with Obama and Democrat supporters from all over Washington County. Children will enjoy the new playground area with decorative gym climbs, and a scenic viewing area overlooking the beautiful Tualatin River. There will be face painting for kids, Obama Bubbles, and a friendly Pull 4 Obama TugO-War game for children and adults. Bring your Frisbees, play catch and throw the softball around the horn, serve it up on the tennis court, shoot three pointers on the basketball court, or bump it up with volleyball.

The main thrust of this event is to acquire new voter registrations in Washington County with a breakthrough concept modeled after drive through coffee stands... a Drive-Thu Voter Registration that can complete the entire sign up process in minutes with the assistance of capable volunteer registrars. The TigardObamanators, is a collective group of experienced and passionate volunteers with a "progressive" spin to traditional campaigning engaging their community to "connect" with neighbors and increase voter support and new registrations - particularly Latino voters in Washington County. This event paves the way to bolster Barack Obama's swelling support across Oregon and the rest of America in addition to key at stake Democratic positions nationwide.

Merkley leads Gordon Smith in the latest poll conducted by Rasmussen Reports for the hotly contested US Senate seat while another internal poll shows Merkley surging ahead by 11 points among voters who could rate both candidates.

We have a HOME, yeah! However there is much work that needs to be done and we NEED your HELP URGENTLY!

Calling the Obama calvary...What do you need you ask? How Can I help? What What What???

First, review the NEEDS WISH LIST below. Our first priority is LASER Printers with their corresponding TONER CARTRIDGES. Next, desk, chairs and shelves; and a large refrigerator in excellent condition should be sufficient for the office needs. Also at the top of the list is rolls of butcher paper, and red, white and blue poster paints to make many, many posters! We'll take any custom or homemade Obama posters that we can hang on the wall, too.

Starting today, Friday, here is where you can help (and spread the word out to the Oregon Obama community). We need lots of volunteers to help set up and organize the office, everything from cleaning, setting up desks, filing cabinets, shelves and office furniture. Getting computers online, organizing and stocking the office, kitchen and maintenance supplies, in addition to a supply/storage room, even making posters.

We will accept any and all donations or contributions, bring in whatever you have on hand especially office supplies. Again, refer to the Needs Wish List below! Someone will be at the office to accept donations everyday from 10am-9pm.

As a reminder as well, if you're able to, make it a point to bring along lots of SNACKS, FOOD, and BEVERAGES to feed our hard working volunteers, fellows and Field Leaders every time you come to the Obama office. They will appreciate it very very much!

Finally we’ll need many, many volunteers to make phone calls starting Sunday to get the word out about the new office. We'll concentrate on outfitting the office with everything we need and get the word out to our network of supporters throughout Washington County and city of Portland.

Over the Coming Weeks, the Obama Iowa Campaign for Change will Hold “Democrats Unite for Change” Meetings Across the State

Tomorrow at 5:30 PM CDT in Council Bluffs, the Obama Iowa Campaign for Change will hold a “Democrats Unite for Change” meeting with state Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal, so Democrats can join together and get involved in Senator Obama’s campaign for change. Yesterday, Governor Vilsack spoke at a meeting in Des Moines and over the coming weeks, prominent supporters of Senator Clinton, Senator Edwards and other former Democratic presidential candidates will speak at meetings across the state about the importance of getting involved in Senator Obama’s campaign. Across Iowa, and across the country, Democrats who supported other candidates are uniting behind Senator Obama.

Hello Sunnyvale for Obama!

A lot has happened since the last time I e-mailed you all! The Unite for Change barbecue was a huge success with over 85 people in attendance! And Sunnyvale for Obama now has 35 active members working on nine different project teams—fundraising, voter registration, blogging, phone-banking, community service . . . you name it!

It’s great that we have so much happening in this area. Your tremendous enthusiasm will be invaluable over the next four months as polls show that Sen. Obama currently trails Sen. McCain in projected Electoral College votes. We have a lot to do to turn that around, and of course we can! Many of you remember that Sen. Obama was way behind in the polls at some points in the primaries, and he proved that with grassroots support like ours, he could get his message out and win. It’s time to prove it again!

So please be on the look-out for communications from your team leaders about the work you’ll do--and fun you’ll have!--on the movement for change.

IF YOU HAVEN’T SIGNED UP FOR ANY TEAMS YET, or if you’re new to the group, please see the relevant items in the table of contents, below, so we can get you informed and involved! (The group is open to anyone in the area, not just Sunnyvale residents.)

Uniting for Change Across America (My Personal Event)

I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day. Though meteorologists called for gloom, the sun peaked its head through the clouds and happily exposed itself, lifting my spirits as I called my two Republican friends to help me set up. Belle, Karen and Jen, two of whom had voted for George Bush, were on their way to my house to help me Unite Americans for Change. We set out shrimp cocktail and croissant sandwiches along with an assortment of sodas, and breathed a sigh of relief as we finished and the doorbell rang. At promptly 12:00 p.m. guests came rolling in, with big smiles and hellos, and even a few "YES WE CANS!" I put on a DVD of Barack's speeches while we ate and got to know one another. It's amazing what happens when people actually stop and take the time to say "hello" to their fellow American. Next, I told my story of why I am supporting Barack and Ryan (an Obama fellow who helped to run the event) shared his as well. We then let all who attended share why they were here. We were a group of Jews, Christians, and Muslims. Catholic, white, latino, and black. Asians, sports fans, CEO's, and line workers.....Americans. Americans who all sat inspired and ready to get this country back on track. An investment banker at Merrill Lynch, who said he came because he was interested, but not a supporter, yet by the end of the meeting, he signed up to volunteer for Obama! A Republican who was worried about taxation from Dems, who stated that all her life she had voted 'Republican' yet after learning the truth on Obama's taxation policies that she would change this year. A Hillary supporter, as passionate about Universal Health Care as anyone I had ever met, who came because she believed that Obama would finally be the one to deliver it. From those who have been with the movement since Obama's Senate run in Chicago to those who just signed on with movement; through all our differences, sitting in my basement and out on the patio, there was so much more we had in common.

Obama's ideas for our country and message to Americans are attainable, doable, common sense policies that I know will help to turn this economy around. When people stop to listen and learn, not just vote a party, but voting from knowledge of proposals the choice is clear. We learned this day that your options this election are Obama's policies of new ideas to lower taxes for the working American, health care for every American, new jobs through energy independence. Or John McCain's policies that are the same Bush policies that have and will continue to destroy our economy, obliterate the middle class and increase poverty levels and therefor crime, while selling our country to China and Europe. As I said before, the choice if very clear for anyone willing to listen. Americans came to my home, every religion, race, class and age. They came to unite to make our country a better place for us and our children. Together we will.

So Many Events, So Little Time

At this point, the Cincinnati Enquirer is so used to Barack Obama events going on in the area, that their latest article is titled, as if it were a regular installment, "Local Obama Events This Weekend."

And it pretty much is a regular installment. The article lists no less than five events going on this weekend in the Cincinnati area, but a basic search on My.BarackObama.com suggests the real number might be double that. Not to mention the numerous supporters, volunteers, and change-makers who are holding unlisted events--everything from voter registration drives to canvassing to just meeting up and talking about Barack.

Finally, the big enchilada of events this week will surely be the massive watch party in Fountain Square on Monday at 7 pm, where hundreds will gather to hear Barack's comments at the NAACP convention via Jumbo-tron. Click here for more details.

Buckeyes for Change Make Headlines

UPDATE: Buckeyes for Change, one of the largest prObama groups in Ohio, and which was featured in a previous blog post, got some serious exposure on Cleveland local news the other night. The news clip, found here, covered the Unite for Change event the Buckeyes held in a park downtown, and the choreographed dance they performed there. In the clip, producer James Reid talks about plans to distribute a video of the dance on the internet, to raise money and support for our campaign for change. You can catch a brief glimpse at the dance by checking out the clip (which also features a quick shot of our very own Ohio for Obama blog and website!).

Congratulations to Lisa, Zakiyyah, and all the Buckeyes for Change, for their newfound fame!

But Lisa and friends weren't the only Obama fans who got some mention in the news. Volunteers from Lima held a 4th of July event in Faurot Park (one of hundreds across the state), and the story got picked up by WLIO. They registered voters, recruited more volunteers, and dished out some Obama gear.

Looks like some good deeds do go noticed!

Good News from the Heart of it All

This past Saturday's series of Unite for Change meetings, held all across Ohio, were such a success and a remarkable return to community-based activism that it's no wonder there's a write-up of one in vindy.com, the self-described homepage for "the Valley," based in Youngstown.

Those quoted testify to the usefulness of the house meeting format to really engage neighbors about the issues, in a close and comfortable setting.

In other news, on Monday the city of Cincinnati announced its intent to launch a series of green initiatives within the municipal public intrastructure. The details of said initiatives are sure to be revealed later, but they could include sponsoring the use of everything from "electric dryers to hybrid buses."

It is exactly this kind of environment-friendly civic leadership that our candidate has called for and supported, evident in his own plans for a major project to invest money in greening our urban public infrasturture, and consequently creating a green collar job corps comprised of those who can make it happen.

Twenty-five people gathered in my apartment on Saturday. Over half had no relation to me other than our support for Barack Obama and this movement for change. The remaining folks were my friends and family. Most of whom have had very limited engagment in the political process up to this point. It was my first houseparty. Either as a guest or a host. And to be honest, I was a little nervous, because I wasn't quite sure what to expect.

My houseparty was an awesome experience. At one point, I took a step back and just watched as complete strangers introduced themselves and opened up about why they were there, their personal experiences and life stories, and what they were hoping to see going forward. I didn't have to do anything except open my home. Simply provide a space where people could come together, share and learn from one another.

Really, its a simple idea: The people who are affected by an issue are the ones who are best able to come up with solutions that will work. Regular folks have what it takes to shape the policies created in Washington so that they successfully address our needs. Specifically, we know from our own personal experience what must be done. The challenge is building a bridge between communities of people and those active in the policy-making process. One important thing we've been lacking, especially on a national scale, is the organization it takes to yield influence over these decisions. This campaign, and Saturday in particular, provide some guidance into how to make that happen.

One houseparty at a time we are building the infrastructure of our organization. Connecting to one another. Understanding how we are each affected by decisions that are made in our nation's capital. One houseparty at a time we are changing what it means to participate in the political process. One houseparty at a time we are taking back this country and deciding for ourselves what our future will look like.

Powhatan County Unite for Change house party!

On Saturday evening there was a small congregation of cars parked along side the road in Red Lane. As drivers rode past, they may have wondered why all of the cars were there, until, perhaps, they noticed all of the cars had Obama '08 stickers on them!

Powhatan County had its first Unite for Change gathering in order to bring Obama supporters together and to brainstorm and organize future events. One of the Obama fellows, Beth, came all the way down from Charlottesville to help out and provide information about the Obama campaign. It was a nice crowd and a diverse one at that: young, old, white, African-American, male, female, Christian, and Jewish. As Beth left, she said Powhatan was the most organized and eager of the groups she had met with. We are most definitely FIRED UP AND READY TO GO!

Unite For Change Feedback Survey

My response to the email asking for feedback on why I was inspired to attend the event:

I was inspired to attend because I am embarrassed of my country and the current administration and feel we are in dire need of change. One of the things I have been most inspired by in these past few months is all of the young people that Barack Obama is bringing out to be involved in this process. I for one never did more than vote in the past, and was never really interested in the ins and outs of the process. I've never been this passionate about politics, and it's all due to the honesty, presence and devotion Obama conveys every time I see him and hear him speak. One of my biggest fears is public speaking. I spoke at my Unite For Change event, and it was quite possibly one of the hardest things I have ever had to work up the courage to do. But I did it and it was one of the most rewarding and amazing experiences of my life! I cried at several times during it, but people clapped and encouraged me. When I was finished people clapped again and came up to me afterwards and said how great it was for them to see me so young, emotional and passionate. A few said it even inspired them, which was so wonderful to hear. As I said in my speech, I am not a spiritual person, but I wake up every day and pray for Barack Obama. I am scared for him. I am scared that the people that spew lies, ignorance and hatred will only start to feel more and more afraid of what may happen and take action to keep it from happening. The racism and complete and utter ignorance I see and hear every day makes me so angry, and I've yet to come to terms on how to handle it, but I may never get to that point because it is so hard for me to understand how someone can be so hateful. As I said earlier, our gathering was a melting pot, but I never saw color. I saw passion. I saw love. And it was so motivating. I called several people on my way home and said it was just AMAZING. I'm proud of myself for overcoming my fear, and I hope to use my passion to try and help people overcome theirs. In January 2009, I want to be able to call my family, friends and loved ones and say, with tears streaming down my face, that I just saw Barack Obama get inaugurated as the first African-American President of the United States. And I know it will be an experience I will never forget.

Last Weekend's Meeting at Hazel's

Hello, everyone.

Hazel hosted a wonderful Unite for Change gathering this past weekend, and I wanted to give those of you who were unable to attend an overview of some of our ideas for helping the campaign in the coming weeks. Although it's expected that a local campaign office will open up in the next six weeks, now is an excellent time to help jump start the Jacksonville campaign by helping to register voters. Some of our ideas for registering voters:

1) Work with local churches and other places of worship.

2) Reach out to the Hispanic community. This could be as simple as posting voter registration flyers in local Hispanic-owned places of business. Someone at the meeting also mentioned that there are several local Hispanic churches where we could engage the Hispanic community. If any Jacksonville volunteers speak Spanish, please let the Jacksonville for Obama group know.

3) Reach out to the military community. Tracy has contacted several groups on Meetup.com to try to reach out to military families. If you have any other ideas for encouraging registration among the military community, please let us know.

4) Hold more registration drives at public places like Walmart.

If you have other ideas for registering local voters, please feel free to post them on the blog so that everyone can stay involved.

Unite for Change Party Decorah Iowa

I was unable to hold a Unite for Change party of my own this weekend due to prior engagements. But I decided to check out what events were coming to my area (there are usually none, I live in such a rural area) I was happy and excited to see that in the neighboring town of Decorah there was a Unite For Change party scheduled for Sunday.

Kathy was gracious and had a wonderful home acreage. The area was carved out neatly from the surrounding corn fields and seemed like everything Iowa should be.

As people began to show up it was nice to see people I had talked with on the blog as well as people I had seen through the campaign back in Jan. Even though this party was out of my county I was happy to be involved with supporters who were proud to be helping out and excited to get things started. It gave me some great ideas for my upcoming party on July 19th.

We all introduced ourselves and told our stories about how we became "hope-mongers". Sometimes I forget that I was not involved in politics before this campaign until I tell my story and hear myself speaking the words. That "LBB" Life Before Barack seems like a million years ago.

There were people there that were close to 90 and the young and up and coming. One of the younger people there brought up the idea of a "happy hour" for Barack every week at a local bar/restaurant as an opportunity for people to get together in a "less organized" and "less threatening" way. Although calling it happy hour is out of the question she thought of calling it "Barack Hour" but thought that sounded like an evangelical "hour of power" kind of thing. I am not sure what the final name will be but what a wonderful idea to get people to be comfortable and talk about Barack and for those who may not know him to get to know him.

We decided that the biggest problem for most people is that they just have not spent enough time getting to know Barack and what he stands for, especially some of the supporters of other candidates. There were woman there that struggled themselves with the choice between the first woman and Barack as well as Edwards supporters that have all come to read up on Barack and fully support him.

I know I have not spent a ton of time researching Hillary or McCain so I assume that of others and their lack of information on Barack. We are hoping that we may, by being in a public place, pull others into the conversation or at least get the information in their ears from across the room.

There is a huge 4th of July celebration in a neighboring town and some of the people are going to set up a table with information and hope to get some attention there. I think that the opportunity we have on such a patriotic holiday, the one in which we celebrate the biggest CHANGE America ever struggled through, is a great starting point for getting ourselves out their and introducing the biggest force of change this country has seen in 40 years!

I know this is not my normal "exciting" post, but I thought the ideas we had might be shared.

United for Change in Castleberry Hill

Saturday June 28th, approximately 50 people gathered at my home for the purpose of supporting Barack Obama for President. I was glad to welcome my friends and neighbors into my home to discuss our stories of support for Obama, frustration with the present state of our government, pride and amazement that our country is coming together to elect a man with values and the touch of the common man, despite is ethnic heritage. I was surprised that Middle America stood up and voted for change and I'm energized by the fact that this could actually happen. We had a diverse crowd. Young, old, male, female, black, white and Hispanic straight and gay. All expressing their willingness to get out the vote for Obama. I knew of the passion of many of my friends but I was really moved by the depth of commitment of some of my neighbors who found the meeting on the web and stepped out of their comfort zone and came to the home of a complete stranger. There were no strangers at the meeting. Everyone blended and shared and listened to each others ideas and concerns. Alvelyn Sanders our resident Obama Fellow led the discussion, shared her heartfelt story of connection with one America. So far five people have volunteered to have a house meeting; several including myself are going to participate in the voter registration drive in East Point on the 4th of July. Alvelyn told us that there are 500,000 unregistered voters in Georgia. I believe we can reach then for Barack Obama and win Georgia in the fall. We ended the meeting with a meal prepared by my friends Rob, Rob, Lawrence and myself. The 2 Buck Chuck flowed and a good time was had by all as we continued to share our passions until midnight. Unite for Change: A Fellow's Perspective

As mentioned in the previous post, the Obama Fellows have been critical to the efforts to get the general election campaign kicked off here in Ohio. Much of their work has been community organizing--something our candidate is personally acquainted with--and a foundation of these community networks have been local house meetings. Generous hosts open their home to like-minded Obama supporters for the opportunity to talk about their commitment to our movement, reach out to volunteers, and possibly even sway undecided voters.

The last set of these meetings were entirely and autonomously organized by the Fellows themselves, under the banner "Unite for Change." One of these Fellows was Andrew, and to give you an up-close look at how you "Unite for Change," below is Andrew's own account of his event.

He writes:

The Buckeye State kicked off the Unite for Change event this weekend with hundreds of house meetings. Americans from every walk of life gathered in living rooms to share their stories and plan action to create change.

Roxie hosted one of the house meetings and invited her friends and neighbors. She coordinated with Organizing Fellow Michael to plan the event.
Michael shared how when his father was 16 he was forced to work on a farm. His dad planned his escape and swam for ten hours while avoiding patrol boats and sharks. After he got to land he made his way to the USA to pursue the American Dream. Upon arriving in America he worked odd jobs until he found a union job in waste management. It was not a glamorous job. He spent his early career picking up garbage in Harlem. His father stuck with it though and worked his way up so he could provide for Michael and his mother. Michael brings his fathers work ethic with him to the campaign and wants to ensure that other Americans have the same opportunities that his father did.

Grace shares many of Michael's concerns. She is a social worker and has seen the opportunities that existed for middle class Americans like Michael's father dry up in the past 8 years. She knows that we need a fundamental change in policy to ensure the future of the American Dream.
Carlotta works in preventive health care and smoking cessation. She has seen health care plans become increasingly out of reach for average Americans. Carlotta told the group that by the time most people can get coverage by their health care they are already at a critical point and sometimes on their deathbed. She knows that we can get better preventative health care with Obama's plan.
Carlotta feels the need to take action. She is signing up to help register new voters. She understands how important it is in this crucial state because the election was so close here in 2004. You can get involved just like Carlotta by hosting a house meeting or signing up to register voters.

We had a Unite For Change house party this weekend. It was really a volunteer planning meeting for our neighborhood group. We had around 23 of us in my living room, standing room only. It was truly inspiring to see so many people show up wanting to roll up their sleeves and get working for the campaign.

One of the participants said he was sick of preaching to the choir, I think the group agreed. We really want to have impact and bring our whole selves and shared values to the table.

By the end of the meeting we had created three or four committees focused on Voter registration, Hope In Action, and of course, fundraising.

This meeting got me even more fired up and ready to go. My kids watched from the top of the stairs with big smiles on their faces. How cool is that?

Fellows Take the Lead in Ohio

The campaign is rapidly filling its staff ranks here in Ohio, as eager field organizers jump at the chance to work in one of the most, if not the most important state in the election. But there are some especially dedicated Obama devotees who toil to get our message out without the (albeit meager) luxury of a campaign paycheck. They are the Obama Fellows, a group of specially selected volunteers of all age groups who are given the unique opportunity to work intimately on the campaign over six weeks this summer--most in their own community. They are integral to our voter outreach events, and each of the over 200 Unite for Change events on Saturday was planned, orchestrated, and run by an Obama Fellow- it was truly their show (with some help from the party hosts, of course).

Like many on this campaign, the Obama Fellows participate with a sense of personal commitment to our candidate's cause that comes from their own stories. Here are a few we wanted to share with you.

Ian writes:

I'm a third-year Pre-Law and Political Science student at the University of Cincinnati, and I'm originally from Dayton...
My sister Heather was in the Peace Corps for about 30 months, several years ago. She was assigned to the African country of Zambia, which was mostly a safe place to be. She lives there now. In between then and today...she's had some incredibly close encounters, and mostly thanks to good luck, she's gotten out of dangerous situations. Good luck runs out, and all of these situations I'm alluding to are directly related to the world's opinion of our country and our people. So I guess, if I had to pinpoint in specifics why I'm here, my first thought would be Heather, and her safety. It's crystal clear at this point that the rest of the world would give us another chance with Sen. Obama at the helm, and that's good enough for me.

Donnie, from Columbus:

I come from a blue collar family, a family the believes in hard work, a family that lives the American dream every day. Both of my grandfathers served their country and earned the pride that goes along with it. My grandmother worked in factories during the war and bought war bonds to ensure that the freedom we take for granted everyday would always be there for her family. My mother worked long hours in a field dominated by men, showing that women are capable of doing extraordinary things. My father, who has been a role model, showed me that anything you want in life can be yours, if you are willing to make the sacrifices it takes to achieve them.
I see two Americas, the America we are and the America we can be, I know Senator Obama can provide the leadership we need to become the America we are capable of. We are so divided...and the unity that Barack will provide will better help our country move forward and achieve its true potential.
The reason I became a fellow was to help ensure that change will come; my generation is known for sitting on the sidelines and letting others deal with the problems of our country. For the first time we are coming together and having our voice heard. We have been told that our voice doesn’t matter, but you can not silence millions of young people standing together saying this is our time, to bring about change to the country. It has all started with one voice demanding to be heard, and that one voice has changed a community, a state, and a country.

And Calli:

I'm from a small town called Conroe, Texas. It's in north Montgomery County, one of the most heavily Republican counties in Texas. I am the daughter of a Republican county judge and a former FDIC union chapter president... Most of my junior year of highschool was not spent at parties, football games, or the movies, but at rallies, debates, and in neighborhoods canvassing for my mother's campaign.
Understandably, I've been a little politically confused for most of my life... I remember the night I spent sitting on the floor of my living room with my mom and step-dad, watching the bombs fall on Baghdad, and not understanding why. I did not approve of it then, and I still don't... I was inspired by Barack's love and hope for our country, his desire to reach across the aisle, and his commitment to getting this country back on the right track. He's given me power to change this country, a voice, and the chance to get involved with the nation I love.
I drove over 1,000 miles from Texas to Ohio. [Fellows] training was a blast, and my team immediately hit it off. They're an incredible group of people of different ages and backgrounds, all with different specialties. Working with them inspires me to push on. We arrived in Athens the day that training ended, with no office or housing to speak of. We hit the ground running our first week in town, doing voter registration every day and calling hundreds of area residents at night... We've all had to adapt our strategies to fit the different counties we work in. I love working in Appalachia because it's a tremendous challenge and it's such a battleground. There are no easy days, and the need to do well here is a total inspiration.

Unite for Change Success

I don't know how many of you were able to host or attend a Unite for Change event this past weekend -- if you did, I'm sure you had as much fun and shared in as much energy and passion as we did at ours...and if you didn't don't worry about missing out, because it's just the beginning!

Our house meeting was very well attended with a couple Organizing Fellows, a representative from one of our local, critical downballot races, and lots of energized and ready-to-work volunteers. We learned a lot, we shared a lot, and as a result we are setting up a semi-formal team to carry our energy forward to, through, and beyond the election.

If you're not already in touch with a Fellow or a Team Liaison in your area, find them and reach out. There's lots to do and lots of people all around you ready to work with you to make this dream a reality.

Unite for Change Arvada CO

Respect, Empower, Include! These sentiments were evident in the excitement and enthusiasm at the 'Unite for Change' event at our small house in Arvada, CO on Saturday night. My husband and I were excited when by mid week we had 18 people signed-up. Then 46 people showed up and our house was bursting at the seams. It was inspiring and encouraging to see so many people talking about what had brought them together and what their hopes were for the future. Many stories were shared, and one in particular stood out. A woman spoke who had been a staffer for Republicans in congress for more than 15 years and since then her current work had provided her with the opportunity to meet many world leaders. She had also met Barack Obama and she eloquently described her feelings about him; she believes him to be a leader and visionary of the highest quality. She said, "Once in a generation the world is gifted with someone of his talents." We must do everything we can to elect Barack Obama the next President of the United States.

Unite For Change: What a weekend!

From Toledo to Canton, from Youngstown to Athens, from the streets of Cincinnati to the suburbs of Cleveland, from the apartment buildings of Columbus to the outskirts of Lima, this weekend Ohioans attended hundreds of Unite For Change House Meetings.

Obama supporters joined former Clinton supporters, as well as Independents and Republicans, in homes, schools, churches, libraries and just about anywhere they could gather across the Buckeye State.

Mary Lou, who attended a Unite For Change House Meeting in Beachwood, said:

We need a complete change. I think we have to bring our troops home. I have a grandson who's in Iraq. He may have to go back. I think the economy has to change. I just think everything has to change... I haven't always voted Democrat. It depended who's running.

Judy, another attendee, is still looking for more specifics:

I want someone who sounds intelligent, but also who acts intelligent. I'm on the fence, but I want to learn more about Barack Obama.

One man in a T-shirt emblazoned with the date 01-20-2009, had his own take on what this election means to the people of Ohio, and the entire nation:

This election is going to come down to a letter. It's me or it's we. And for a long time we've had "it's me. What can I get out of the country?" And now we have a guy that says we is possible. And that, to me, is the most powerful thing... We're sitting here, we're being we tonight— people who agree or disagree— we're being we.

Barack has often said that this election is not about him, but about all of us, and how we must come together to make change possible. This weekend in Ohio, thousands of people did just that.

Unite For Change House Party

Yesterday I attended a Unite For Change house party hosted by a wonderful family in Naperville, IL. It was such an amazing personal experience for me and I met some inspiring, thoughtful, smart and intelligent people. It was a melting pot of sorts and I feel even more motivated now than I did before! We can do this! Me can move past the ignorance and the hatred and show people that this country CAN and WILL recover from the devastation we've suffered for the past 8 years!
