On Sunday, August 2, OFA will do a phone bank for the President's health care reform principles in West Chester, PA.

This is the time for all of us to put pressure on the Congress. In addition to gaining declarations of support for health care reform, we must prevail upon the people that we call to phone and/or email their members of Congress with a strong message of support for the President's health care reform principles.

When phone banking, be ready to provide the phone numbers for your US Senators and all locally-based Congresspersons.

The final step for any person that we reach through phone banking is for him or her to report the results of their own calls to Congress. You can give the following instructions:

A post partisan president needs post partisan supporters

It is said by some that Barack Obama maybe our first post-racial president. It is possible he may be our first post partisan president as well. One of my favorite Barack Obama-ism is from his book "the Audacity of Hope". It reads: "I am convinced that whenever we exaggerate or demonize, oversimplify or overstate our case, we lose. For it is the predictability of our current political debate, that keeps us from finding new ways to meet the challenges we face. It is what keeps us locked in "either/or" thinking: the notion that we can only have big government or no government" Clearly he understands the need for nonpartisan effort to solve the huge problems that face us. So, if Barack Obama is the 1st post-partisan president, a harder question may be: can WE find a way to be post-partisan supporters. Can we veterans of the passion of the Obama campaign continue to be excited about good government and be active in civic affairs, without being required to turn into partisan Democrat party workers? Is there a "career path" that allows non-partisan citizens to continue to be passionate and support the wave of change that is embraced by President Obama? I think it's going to be difficult, but it's important that we try. It is going to be hard to measure our success. In a political campaign, success is measured by whether or not your candidate wins the election. It is simple, straightforward and brutally clear. Now the challenge is to transform into an organization that doesn't measure success by winning or losing but measures how well we can produce collective good. We cannot measure success by the number vanquished political bodies we leave behind but how many of all of "us" we can get across the finish line. Barack Obama gives us additional insight into this organizational change in the closing words of Chapter 1 in "Audacity of Hope". He says: "I imagine they (ordinary citizens) are waiting for a politics with the maturity to balance idealism and realism, to distinguish between what can and cannot be compromised, to admit the possibility that the other side might sometimes have a point. They don't always understand the argument between right and left, conservative and liberal, but they recognize the difference between dogma and common sense, responsibility and irresponsibility, between those things that last and those things that are fleeting.They are out there, waiting for Republicans and Democrats catch up with them." Well, we are the "they" Barack Obama talks about above. We are the Democrats, Republicans, Independents and others that came together to be the Obama campaign. That organization has fulfilled its goal. We won! Now, what do we do in round two? I doubt there are many organizations that can successfully transform themselves from a victory seeking campaign machine into an organization that reveres civility and cooperative effort. However, in my experience, with the diverse, kind and generous group of people who have made up the Obama revolution, I KNOW if anybody can do it, we can do it. Yes we can! YES WE CAN! THE REAL JOB BEGINS FOR ALL AMERICANS!

The countdown to 'CHANGE' is upon us. But our President-Elect Obama has not disappointed us. Likewise, with Vice President-Elect Joe Biden. And now we have Hillary on board, along with many other political experts.

Now is the time to 'ramp-up' and organize not only continued grass-root efforts, but even moreso ramp up your schedule to include some time to stay in direct contact with ALL your Local Politicians asking that they fully support the new legislation of the Obama/Biden administration. THIS WILL BE A CRUCIAL FACTOR! No joke!

The tasks set forth before the Obama/Biden administration is enormous in its intensity, moreso than the number of issues involved. This I'm sure we are all well aware of. But I must stress everyone to remember a few things: "It takes a village to raise a child" (translated: It takes all of us to renew a nation") and "Life is like a box of choc-o-lates, you never know...".

Therefore, it is imperative that we all strive to continue to put forth our best efforts to aide in whatever capacity possible to support the Obama/Biden administration.

Oh,yeah, please try not to besiege the Whitehouse with a flood of resumes, okay! There's plenty of other avenues that could utilize your skills and political support right here in your own backyard. If you put a little more creative thought to it, you can truly, actually, really, honestly establish it as a small business.

So I urge you to do some focused, creative thinking on that vs. sending all those resumes to the Obama/Biden administration.

There is much to be done, as well as numerous ways to get it done!

Anti-Palin or Pro-Obama?

We need to refrain from the sort of spectacle that anti-Palin protestors made in Grand Junction, Colorado yesterday, when they ran out in front of her motorcade. The difference is anti-Palin versus pro-Obama. You can see it in the behavior of those who came to protest, or to show their support yesterday. There is no Obama supporter who is pro-Palin, but we show our support, and talk about our reasons for deploring Sarah Palin.

The Reverend Martin Luther King called for peaceful demonstrations for social justice. We have to hold back. He have to let the rule of law take care of those who hurt and kill in their fear and ignorance. Where the forces of the law will not act, we must gather and force action, peacefully.

We can do it because we are far greater in number and strength. We always were. It's nothing new. The difference is that we recognize one another now, we have left the comfort of our homes and isolated lives to communicate, to exchange, to learn about one another, to care about one another, and to work together to elect Senator Obama president.

We have laughed, argued policy and point of view, we have formed families through our commonly held beliefs and caring. Our families are multi-racial. They cross state and country boundaries. They include teenagers and middle-aged people and retired folks who talk to one another, save each other from despair, plan for the future, share information and encourage one another.

We have learned that we do not want to live without one another anymore, even though we have never met. We might never have been the image of a friend or brother the other would have imagined for herself, but we have learned that appearance means nothing. In our virtual world, it is taken away, and all that remains is what we offer of ourselves.

We can spot the psychopaths, and we turn them out. They can try to harm us, tell us how to do things, and take away what we make for ourselves and enjoy, but they cannot succeed. We are smarter and we are more resourceful, and we are far more committed.

We can spot the trolls. They don't even try to conceal themselves. They are the immature, the scared, the belligerent. They don't respond to a reminder that rules of engagement need only be respected for them to be welcome, even if they disagree.

The McCain campaign claims Barack Obama is a pal of Bill Ayers, and therefore is himself a bomb-throwing radical. Sarah Palin points out she read this in the New York Times. Perhaps she is doing that to refute the perception she doesn't read newspapers. However, she did not read the article carefully because it demonstrates that Akers and Obama only “crossed paths” while working to bring money to Chicago schools and as neighbors in Hyde Park.

The truth is, Barack Obama does not look to Bill Ayers for advice. It is hard to imagine why would Obama consult Ayers when his advisors and supporters include Nobel Prize winners (62 scientists in a recent public letter), investors and business people (such as Warren Buffett), former SEC chairs, professional economists, admirals, generals, and an overwhelming majority of the soldiers in Iraq who have made political donations. About 4 million Americans have contributed financially to his presidential campaign. So why do McCain/Palin want to associate Obama and Ayers? Because they have nothing of more substance to say to the American people.

Today was an extraordinary day for me. A friend and fellow Obama supporter told me about the rally last night and invited me to go along today. My wife and I made arrangements for the kids for after school and off I went.

Our friend and I were able to get pretty close to the podium and she wearing her "Got Obama"? T-shirt fit right in with the crowd. We got our Obama 08 stickers and our "Change We Need" signs and got swept away with the tide of supporters. It was a beautiful thing to see. I'm 38 years old and this is the first time I have ever gotten so involved and excited about a presidential campaign. I actually want to do SOMEthing to help Senator Obama win. This country, we as a people can not afford to let John McCain reside in the White House ! His policies, his ideals are dangerous. He is just dead wrong on too many issues to do any of us any good. His complete lack of public respect for Mr. Obama further tells me that either he really doesn't care what people think, or he hasn't the judgement or self control to censor his actions. Does he expect to win votes by calling our candidate "that one" on national television? The slights are too numerous to go down the list here . He's got a temper also Mr. McCain does... a little research on the web will reveal dozens of verifiable examples. Don't just take MY word for it. After all, I'm supporting his opponent. John McCain and Sarah Palin... Sarah Palin.. don't get me started on that.... Neither of them have any place in the White House. Not now, not EVER. The good Senator can't say it but I can...

Senator Obama is ready to lead, he has a fantastic VP candidate behind him and he has, from what I saw today an incredible spouse and First Lady in Michelle. I was rapt. I could not take my eyes off of her and I wanted to hear every single word. As a black man myself, I usually get irritated when people use the words "well spoken" or "articulate" to describe somone of ethnic heritage... but man, Michelle is both. She delivered a clear message that left no doubt in my mind or the mind of anyone there I'm willing to bet, that we were fighting for the right candidate.

The strongest message delivered today though was this: No matter how right the Senator is and how sure we are that his plan of action will deliver this country from the downward spiral that Mr. Bush and McCains backwards policies have helped lead us, it will NOT matter one iota if we do not show up on November 4. We can complain now but if we don't vote ... and Senator Obama is forced to deliver a humiliating concession speech... who will we have to blame but ourselves?

Are Clinton Voters who Joined McCain.. Racist?

Its a legitimate question, truly, considering they have nothing in common politically with McCain and the Republican Party. Hillary's views are even more Staunt to the left then Obama's and I know this because I supported Her to win the Primaries! So.. If you supported her, your views are so far left you can't move right unless there's something deeper seeded within yourself which you would feel justified for when disgracing the very political views you claimed to have based your original support on. As for me, seein that she lost, I quickly fell in line with the rest of my Family in the Democratic Party because My enemies enemy is Most certainly my greatest ally.

For me to Actually betray my party and join with the Enemy is not only a Disgrace to everything I believe in politically but its a betrayal to whats best for my country as a whole. I cannot Fathom casting a Vote for a party that has, for the last 8 years, Completely Destroyed everything my country was founded on, everything that makes us the beacon to the world Economically, Militarily and Ethically.. this is what the republican party has done.. So do I hold a Grudge against my Brother, and the half of my family that supported him, simply because he won a contest to decide who was best to defeat the people planing to destroy our home? Do I Hold a grudge against him and join the people planning to destroy our home and seek shelter with the enemy? What Kinda of person would that make me in their eyes when i agree with them on nothing, yet would switch sides due to a small loss?

I would be, Plainly put.. a Traitor in their eyes..

They could never truly respect me nor my values as A Democratic American who believes in Empowering the little guy so he or she can Empower his or herself. So what would lead me over to their side, aside from being bitter about who should lead the Charge against the Enemy? I don't care who leads the Charge as long as the Charge is made Successfully, & THIS is what those "supporters" of our Hillary are completely missing. I doubt there is that much bitterness in the whole world.. My only logical reasoning is that these supporters who would actually cast a vote for the enemy in spite must not see the issues at hand.. I believe they only see a Black man, not a Democratic American, they see a black man that they would completly disgrace themselves politically by voting against rather then personally disgrace themselves by voting for..

This Phenomenon happening in Our party, the Party of the Great truth seeker JFK is totally saddening, I'd expect such an Anomaly in the republican party due to their party being rooted so deep in the racially divided Southern half of our country.. but in OUR party? Almost 30% of us forgetting why we are democrats in the first place? Because of a mans race?... & Yes, I insist that it must be the ignorant view of his race, because if any intelligence was involved in the decision to vote against our democratic brethren for that of the enemy, that decision would never be made..

As for those of Us who Supported Hillary and Still fell in line with the family when they choose differently, kudos.. Kudos to you for truly holding the Vision of our great party at heart, we are truly the Americans envisioned in our constitution.. In honor of Hillary's words, We will not Forget why we are Democrats.. We will not forget our true purpose here in this election, and for the good our our great country, we will not allow 4 more years.. No way, no how, No McCain.

I just watched Barack Obama's latest campaign ad. It's him, talking straight to the camera, mainly about the economy, for two minutes. Compelling and reasonable, he says nothing we haven't heard him say before, while looking and sounding, 'presidential'. In a normal year the ad may have been criticized or ignored because of its' lack of pizzazz, but to me it is thrilling, and I suspect that it will work extremely well, especially among that most eagerly sought after group; the undecideds.

There is a consistent story out of the Obama campaign. It goes like this: an attack is launched by one of his opponents. The attack appears to be working. Poll numbers change. A gap widens, or narrows. Dismay starts to surface as the candidate and his closest advisors don't seem to be doing anything. Eventually, there is a meeting, or a conference call. Suggestions of how to respond come in thick and fast. Voices clamor to be heard. Then, through the noise comes this directive, "Okay, let's everybody just calm down. Here's what we're going to do." The conversation quickly goes from clamorous to orderly, from strident to strategic, and the campaign moves forward. Since Iowa, remember Iowa!?, this has been happening. Yet it seems that with each new punch thrown by the opposition, his most avid supporters, especially those on the chattering Left who supposedly know better, seem to forget... that Barack Obama is GOOD AT THIS.

When he finally called the McCain ads examples of "Phony Outrage", even I had begun to worry that his silence was a sign of the old Democratic strategy called 'how to lose a presidential election by being nobly high-minded', which was employed so gosh darn effectively by Kerry and Gore. Instead, what he did was the following: He paused to think about it. Then he paused a little longer to let the electorate think about it. And then he paused a little longer to build some suspense, before giving it a name: Phony Outrage. Wow. Simple, cool, and true. And actually "phony" is a much better word than 'lies' or 'distortions' or 'smears', because it is dismissive, without being contemptuous. It's mature, authoritative, and reasonable. And it made McCain look immature and silly. Not bad for a man young enough to be his grandson.

I don't know how long it took Obama to come up with that phrase. Maybe it was on the tip of his tongue as soon as he heard the attack, (maybe he even knew the attack was coming!) but he understands something that so many people on the Left can't seem to get their heads around; most Americans, Democrats, Republicans, even swing voters, are moderate, reasonable people.
They -- check that -- We, are not poised in front of the TV listening for ideological buzzwords that confirm our ironclad beliefs. We are actually listening for something beyond politics: confidence, reassurance, leadership, in language that we comprehend and appreciate.

Obama knows that the stridency and dismay coming from the Left, is as phony as the outrage and mean-spiritedness coming from the Right. Sarah Palin is a dreadful candidate, chosen for cynical political reasons. But, that doesn't mean that anyone who listened to her speech, and found reasons to like her, had suddenly taken leave of their senses. Can we please admit that, for a fairly long time, Obama himself was (intentionally-ssshhh, don't tell anyone) pretty light on substance, and those people that dared to say so had not been sent to the surface by Beelzebub! They were simply listening, and had not yet been convinced. Let's also try to admit that the women who remain angry at how Hillary Clinton was treated are not crazed harpies with fangs. Nor are Undecided Voters sub-literate morons more interested in choosing America's Next Top Model than the leader of the free world. This is a politically moderate, idealistic, and instinctively non-intellectual country. But as one not-too-shabby president once said, "..You can't fool all the people all the time." A good way to alienate them, however, is to be scornful and impatient.

Obama seems to understand this better than John McCain, and he has demonstrated extraordinary discipline through the many provocations and distractions he has had to answer. That discipline will be put to the ultimate test in the next 49 days, so it might be a good time for everyone who wants him to win, to "Calm the f*** down", and take a long steady look at how this candidate does politics. There are swing voters out there. They are still deciding, and that doesn't mean there's something wrong with them.

Here's my list of best guesses regarding how Obama got where he is. 1. He listens (or at least appears to be listening, which is a very reassuring quality). 2. He finds common ground(or at least uses words that make him seem reasonable and empathetic). 3. He works toward consensus(which means that, heaven forbid, he sometimes makes overtly political decisions, kind of like -- gasp -- his opponents). 4. He chooses moments and words carefully(could McCain have been right about his use of "Lipstick on a Pig"? Was our Barack actually setting a trap!? Hmmm.). 5. He points out differences while emphasizing commonality (and he means it, the man is a Centrist, only in America could Obama be described as a Liberal). And finally, this is just a guess so it doesn't get a number; I strongly suspect that he would prefer his supporters to stop asking exasperated questions that make them sound like snooty limousine liberals, or wild-eyed kooks. It is neither helpful nor fair to question the sanity of anyone who hasn't yet made up their mind.

A case in point: The man that lives next door to me, in the house with the McCain/Palin yard sign, is the only person in our neighborhood with a key to my front door. I trust him. We hang out. We even talk politics. He and his wife watched both conventions, thought about it, and made a decision. I think I can persuade them to reconsider, but either way, I'm not going to ask for my key back. We're neighbors, after all.

Everybody, just calm down.

To this blog and I'm pretty new to the site, signed up but haven't done much.

I had the pleasure of meeting many people visiting Des Moines during the Iowa Caucus this year, most of whom stopped in to my vintage clothing shop. I will say that more Obama supporters came in than those with other candidates! Which was fine by me as I was leaning that way anyway (though I struggled, as a woman, with the feeling that I "should" support Hillary.....however, she just didn't inspire me the way Barack did).

Since then I have kept in touch via email with a young woman who was traveling with Barack's campaign. Her passion for what she is doing is inspiring, her emails enthralling and genuine. She loves what she does and believes fully in Obama!

I read a lot of message boards and over and over I observe people telling stories of conversations with Independents and Republicans who have been drawn to vote for Obama....stories of registering neighbors to vote who haven't voted in years, of standing up for what they believe in in a workplace full of McCain supporters....of women recoiling in horror at the idea of Sarah Palin's ideals and "values" being anywhere near the White House and the fury they felt at the arrogance of McCain believing they would support a woman for the sake of her simply being a woman.

Obama is the true hero for America and the leader this world need

Hii All

I am in high spirits to share with you this portion of information especially for young people who’s their future is being defined by this campaign. Take politics aside and first ask yourself this question; who will make this world better place in the next 8 years and why? The answer is clear like this: Barack Obama is the kind of President the world need now because the best approach needed is in him; Facing real enemies with the well planned diplomacy can yield a best result to both America and the world in many ways. In order to know a person better, you need to sit down with him and talk and this is the best way to know how dangerous your enemy is, and this is what Obama will do. Obama will turn American adversaries to American friends and allies. Proof me wrong fours year after he is elected president.

And this why I judge Obama is a true leader for America

1. For America and the world, Obama will be the right example in bridging the racial differences across America and the world. I am not an America but what I know is that, when Marine goes to war they bled as American but not as people of any color. Young people need to move beyond this notion and to support Obama as symbol of generational change, unity, courage and devotion to the future of America as nation and the world that need solidarity at this stage.

2. I believe Obama is a true hero because bringing poor people from the South Side of Chicago to know what they are doing is a clear vision every America and other concern world citizen should take to support the needy. Because America is the most generous nation in the world, it should show that caring for the poor is a priority and this is what symbolizes the generous America. Obama had shown that very clear in the South Side of Chicago.

3. Being Civil Right lawyer is another big example people should know about him as a true hero who helped people to face a true justice in the free country. Obama stood up for the people who were not able to represent themselves in the court of law and won many cases, these are the characteristics of a true leader who care for his nation and recognize people first.

4. Political Ads may play a big hand to give the wrong information but for me as foreigner, who lives thousand miles out of US, I do consider the legitimacy of your support and other young people across America and the world as not for rhetoric as critics predicts but for what he had done so far.

5. As young person, I need a peaceful world and the world we will consider ourselves as brothers and sisters bearing the God image. To love ourselves and our nations and believe again that this world is going to a right direction.

May God almighty keep all those volunteers in this campaign safe? May all young people helping since the beginning of this campaign last 19 months ago be well as November approaches? I have always visiting this website everyday and watched TV everyday just to offer my support as I will not vote but have a chance to tell you what is better.

You have done but come out in big numbers and knock doors to inform the undecided voters tell your friends and wish all of you good lack

Obama should say: "If we walk away now, if we simply retreat into our respective corners, we will never be able to come together and solve the challenges that face us today" -which is a quote of his, instead of using the same words that the McCain has been using-reaching accross lines etc.-those lines seem not genuine b/c they are so simple and simply talking about the action rather than really talking about the philosophy behind the action-anyone can parrot that and say "oh i reach accross lines" but not everyone can put it in such an eloquent way as Obama has, which really shows that he knows what he's talking about and really means it. He's not jus using some GENERIC WORD that both parties have been throwing back and forth for the last week but he is actually talking about the action and why he supports it and what it means-this expresses much more genuity than the usual banter of politics

I THINK IT IS IMPERITIVE THAT OBAMA PROVIDES A DISTRACTION SOON TO GET ATTENTION AWAY FROM PALIN AND TO GIVE THE VOTERS A RELEASE FROM THE BANTER OF RECENT POLITICS THAT IS STRETCHING SUPPORT THIN. I have been involved with calling OBAMA supporters (Connecticut) in regard to the way they would like to volunteer. EVERYONE WANTS A YARD SIGN. I also directed them to www.barckobama.com and mybarackobama.com and encouraged them to sign up for EVENTS by entering their zip codes, and getting email alerts, joining groups and hopefully some on-line donations.

I wanted everyone to know the following: I called a man that happened to be a Police Officer. He wrote a complaint to Obama HQ about a problem with port-a-potties somewhere (he did not say) He thinks this is how his name ended up on OBAMA'S list of supporters.

He in no uncertain terms: WANTS HIS NAME OFF THE LIST, HATES OBAMA, HATES DEMOCRATS, and ALL police (LIKE WALMART) have an ongoing "CODE" not to VOTE OBAMA!!! He wanted me to type a message into my COMMENTS section of my phone list (which I did) He was rude, mean, and made it clear that ALL POLICE HAVE BEEN INSTRUCTED BY THEIR PRECINCTS TO VOTE FOR MCCAIN!

Other than that, everyone I spoke with were not really interested in canvassing in other states, BUT, will volunteer with on-line phone banking, so they can do it when they have time. One lady said: "I want to do what your doing right now" So, I gave her the www.mybarackobama.com website, told her to log in and then click on "neighbor to neighbor".....

Why We're HERE!!

We all have come from various walks of life to end up here. Not just on this site, not just as supporters of this campaign, but here in the sense that we've (hopefully) arrived to a new state of mind and a new view of what the future can hold for us. I can speak for myself in saying that before I was not interested in politics, or really anything to do with our government. With the candidacy of Barack Obama and the message he brought with it, I found a renewed sense of pride in my country and first time interest in how my country "works". And I don't care how the media spun it, but I think most of us understood what Mrs. Obama meant when she said that about "The first time in her adult life..." There has been such a disconnect with the American people from it's government, and even the America people from one another. Times have gotten so hard that it's hard to take the time to care for your fellow man, nor, in these dog eat dog days, are we encouraged to do so.

It's hard for me to understand how some people don't want to see things change for the better. Quick anecdote: I recently volunteered at an elderly care facility. My goal was to make the residents there happy. It didn't take much. Simple things like talking, touching their hand, playing UNO, painting their nails, or putting in an "oldey but goody" movie in the VCR was all it took to make their day. The employees though, soon grew frustrated with me. I faced constant confrontation whenever I tried to do any activity with the residents. They began to feel as though I was trying to show off, show them up, or show them how horrible they were that they never took the time to do these things. They didn't realize that I wasn't there for them, I wasn't even really there for me (although I was equally rewarded by making them happy), I was there for the residents. I couldn't understand how some people didn't want good things to happen to people, especially those who are the most likely not to find much good in life.

I would like for all Obama Supportors, to take notice of the same ole, same ole, that is coming from the McCain-Palin mirage... Are you serious??? The Party is running scared... can't you see? Now that McCain, and his lack of judgement or you might say his impulsive judgement, has gone out on a limb and selected Palin as his VP, without his Parties 'buy-in', the Republican Party is scrambling about trying to force this unknown down the American peoples throat. We cannot be DISTRACTED, to the same miserable, tired tactics, where there is no forward thinking, yet we are living in the 21st Century.

I call all my forward thinking, common sense people to the floor. Let our voices be heard, the World is watching. Contrary, to what has been said, that Obama must not be too "presumptious" about being the President, isn't it funny how being confident and well grounded: can be labled as presumptious. Do you realize how in tune and talked about this election is? There is not a day that goes by, where I do not find someone talking politics... We are bound to restore America's great name, policies, and moral values in the eyes of the World, we my friend are not simply in this because of Obama, we are in this for ourselves to gain back America the Great. Why We "Older Gals" Wanted Hillary

The Media doesn't seem to get it. But, then, the Media is run by men.

I am a 62-year-old woman who remembers an age when the 'career choices' offered to a little girl were to become a housewife; nurse; teacher; sales clerk; waitress or secretary. Nobody ever said to us we could EVER become anything close to President Of The United States. A little girl was mocked and laughed at if she even suggested she might want to become a Senator. Sure, there was Margaret Chase Smith in the Senate; but, no one ever acknowledged that Senator Smith was anything we could aspire to become.

Through the ensuing years, we had 2 TV newswomen - count 'em 2 - Pauline Frederick and Nancy Dickerson. But, even they didn't show up on TV until we were in our young teens. And, the snide remarks about 'career women'(translation: Lesbians) were enough to keep a lot of us from even dreaming of doing anything beyond going to college; meeting a 'husband'; then, settling down to a 'typical housewife's' life of cooking, cleaning and bearing children - a 'life' we could have had without even passing First Grade let alone holding a B.A. The 'messages' were endless; yet, they all said one thing - 'No you CAN'T, Little Lady'.

To be bottom-line honest, this writer was never a big fan of Hillary during the so-called "Clinton Years". I found her 'image' to be quite off-putting. However, I gradually grew to like her after she left the White House. When Senator Clinton announced her candidacy for President, I and many other women contemporaries of Hillary Clinton felt the mixed feelings of disbelief and hope the older African-Americans must have felt when Senator Obama announced his candidacy - that "I never thought I'd live to see this day" feeling.

Not that most of us had anything at all against Senator Obama - we just 'related' more to Hillary Clinton. Hillary is our age; grew up in the same America at the same time we did... etc. The fact that she had a Law Degree from Yale was impressive to begin with - the fact that she battled 'the Big Boys" for Universal Health Care in the early 90's; the fact that she had conducted herself with such dignity during her husband's total public humiliation was a lesson for all of us.

So we championed our candidate - contributed to her campaign - volunteered our time - and passionately supported Hillary just as Barack Obama's people so passionately gave themselves to his campaign.

The lingering 'bitterness' with some of Hillary's supporters is not directed at Senator Obama - it's directed at The Media - primarily in the personages of Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann of MSNBC. Those 2 men took 2 hours every night to pull off one of the greatest hatchet jobs in history upon our candidate - all the while touting and slobbering over Senator Obama as if he were the Second Coming of Jesus, himself. That's why we're still angry.

While I completely support Barack Obama, there is one thing he could do to win the rest of "Hillary's Gals" - acknowledge those Media 'hatchet jobs' which were performed upon Senator Clinton and, to an extent, still are going on. Who more than Senator Obama would know about discrimination and twisting someone's words? A little compassion goes a long way, Senator Obama. While the Media continues to harp upon how Hillary hasn't crawled on her belly to support you, you haven't done a whole lot to win us former Hillary supporters to your side of that Media-driven chasm. Just acknowledging her tough fight with the Media would win the hearts and minds of a huge percentage of Hillary's supporters and ensure a President Obama come January.

Come on, gals and guys - WE ARE ALL DEMOCRATS! And, we all want to see Barack Obama in the White House come January 2009. In the vernacular of my younger days, can we 'Make Love Not War' amongst ourselves?

I wanted Hillary this time. It didn't happen. Barack Obama is my candidate now. Amen!

P.S. a major 'shout-out' to Michelle Obama for her incredible speech last night! Right on, Sister!!!

A Day in the Life

Today I was having a conversation with people at the corner store near my house. As usual the topic of politics came up and the first thing they jumped out was how Barack has " no class" and " isn't trustworthy". I tried to ask why they felt that way and nobody had a real answer. The small group went on to say that John McCain is a honest man who has the highest moral standards in politics today which I found a bit strange. So in my response all I said was "keating 5" and with that their collective faces turned red and they started throwing words at me about Barack that I wouldn't repeat. Just goes to show that even when people are confronted by facts they can still turn away from it in ignorance.

O for Obama - creating our sign - signal for change

Every great movement in history has had a rallying cry or a signal. We need one for Obama 08.

I would propose that we create a hand signal that shows you are an Obama supporter and can acknowledge our friends that feel the same way. This idea came to me as I was driving down 101 and saw a person with an Obama 08 sticker on there car. I wanted to wave to them or give them the thumbs up, but they did not know me nor did they know I was an Obama supporter (until I passed them and they could see my Obama bumper sticker) and I did now want them to think I was some wierdo waving at them.

So I thought about a special wave or signal that we could use to connect with the other Obama supporters out there and I came up with this...

O for Obama. To make an O with your hand simply make a circle with your fingers (as if you were gripping a baseball bat handle) and then touch your thumb between your first and second fingers to make the connection. You now have an O that you can use to signal and wave to your friends.

So what does this mean... well obviously it means O for Obama, it also shows a circle which you could think of as the earth and the fact that most of us care about the environment, and finally when your thumb connects with your fingers to create the circle, it shows one (Obama) bringing together many to make the movement come to life.

So what do you think? O for Obama?

Bike for Barack Grows in Numbers

I participated in the 2nd Bike for Barack event in Madison, WI. It was a blast. We received lots of cheers and waves from pedestrians and motorist alike.

We had about 30 riders wearing Barack gear or who decorated their bikes with Barack Posters on their handlebars. Our route was a leisure ride from W. Washington Ave to Atwood Fest along the lake and east side bike path.

Melissa has expanded her idea to "Bike to Work for Barack" every Tuesday. I hope you will take up her challenge in your area and start your own local Bike For Barack group rides.

Obama supporters decorated a truck and participated in the Brookings Fourth of July parade.

The Obama truck was decorated with American flags and banners, red, white and blue ballons, and lots of Obama signs. It was a lot of fun decorating the truck and the entry was a great success.

Who Is Going to Define Who Barack Obama Is?

Just listening to a little bit about the campaign on Fox, POTUS '08 and MSNBC today I can see that the push is on to define the candidate by explaining to the press what Barack's speeches really mean. The question arises, Who makes up the mind for the Press? Do they buy into the spin of the opponents or do they actually do the work of listening to the whole speech and parsing it for themselves?

The hot topic tonight was whether BO is flip-flopping on Iraq by saying that he wouldn't force a precipitous withdrawal from Iraq. The Republicans and also McCain lambasted Barack for being inconsistent, whether or not they agreed with what they misconstued his original position to be.

It is necessary to go beyond what the pundits say an listen to Barack's and McCain's speeches in full to see what is really bgeing said. How many citizens will take the time to do that? It is up to all of us to learn who we are supporting and answer or friends and families' misconceptions.

SlingObama - A Powerful New Campaign Strategy

One of Obama's key strengths is in his speaking ability.

People who just hear the clips on the news just don't get the full effect. However, anyone who listens to an entire speech, generally comes away with a very favorable impression.

They may not always agree with what Obama says, but the come away with an appreciation for how he thinks and the consideration, respect and grace he gives to those who hold an opposing view.

Another tactical advantage Obama has is the army of young people excited about his candidacy.

Unfortunately, Only a fraction of these young people will ever really actively campaign for Obama. Even fewer of his supporters have any real money to donate. But I think that if given a simple task to do to help the Obama campaign, a significant number would be happy to assist.

The key then is to find something simple that young people can do that will actually make a difference. Simply sticking an Obama bumper sticker on their clunky old cars isn't going to help much. Trying to argue politics with people older and more skilled at debate is also a difficult task.

One thing that kids ARE good at is burning CDs and sharing MP3's. Since one of the best ways to get people to vote for Obama (or at least to stay home and not vote for McCain) is to get people to listen to a full Obama speech. Buy getting young supporters to put full copies of selected Obama speeches into the hands and CD players of their McCain loving parents and the older McCain voting general public, they can really make a difference. No one who watches Obama clips onFox News can ever fully understand the appeal of Obama.

It would be best if the Official Obama site would get this going.

But if not, I would be willing to finance a site to the extent of my campaign contribution limits. I think it would be easy to start a grassroots campaign to get kids to execute this this strategy. I registered the following domains with this idea in mind:

Obamapoint.com
Obamapult.com
Slingobama.com

Whatever domain was chosen, it could be made into a site where Obama MP3's would be available for kids to burn to CD's, or to send to friends and family via email. Each MP3 would urge the listener to pass the CD along to a friend following its use. This would make the campaign viral. Listeners would also be urged to make copies for their friends and family. The site would also explain to the kids that this strategy is a great way for them to use their skills and technical knowledge to make up for their youth and current lack of resources. Their participation could result in a strategic victory over the older wealthier (but less technically savvy) establishment campaign of John McCain.

It's almost impossible to convey the appeal of an Obama presidency via a campaign commercial or a news bite. This strategy would bypass the restrictions of traditional costly mass media. It would also harness the untapped resource of Obama's army of young supporters giving the campaign a real strategic advantage that the McCain campaign simply can't follow.

I would appreciate any comments or suggestions. Please feel free to push this idea to anyone higher up in the Obama campaign organization.

Clinton is wrecking her legacy and this Party

It's not my intention to bash Clinton, but I am a woman and a mother and I can't find any positive rationale for her behavior. I watched all the speeches last night (including McCain's pathetic attempt) and I was outraged. Her pontificating about how she was going to fight on, because she'd received MORE votes than any presidential candidate in history was assinine and totally untrue. I've been listening to Air America on and off this afternoon and it's all I could do to choke back the bile when one of her supporters would call in and spew either total lies about Obama's record; or the stock memes of "I want respect", (When has Obama not respected Hilary? although I hated that brief period during the Pennsy primary when he or surrogates tried to hit back with negativity) or trot out all the supposedly sexist comments (other than when Obama said Sweetie to a reporter) that the MSM or various pundits, anchors, blog writers and others NOT Obama himself said.

I'm waiting for Hilary to show respect for, Obama, the other former presidential candidates, of reality, of her supporters and stop lying to them, winding them up to believe that she can SOMEHOW STILL WIN the title of Democratic Presidential Nominee, via delegates and the votes of the people, show some respect for the Democratic Party, which she claims to support instead of plotting ways to destroy our chances for victory in the fall and recovery in January 2009.

Hillary's Begging...The Poor?

Senator Hillary Clinton should be ashamed. She told a story of a boy who sold his bike, what he really loved, so Hillary could "keep going" because she represented this eleven year old boy's values. He did not come from a wealthy family. She knows, at the deepest of her heart, that she will not win the nomination. She thus stays in the race to pay her personal loan back. It is disgusting to me to take so much from a boy who has so little to pay herself back.
Moreover, she claims that her voters and who support her are poor and have little. When she is a millionaire, why does she still ask them for contributions? Why would she stoop so low as to take the bread and butter from her so called constituency? This disgusts me, and it should disgust you, too. Fight for those who cannot put dinner on the table, and then take their money? Hypocrisy rules the day for Clinton.

I know how you feel.

As wholeheartedly as I support Barack Obama, I know you feel the same about Hillary Clinton. Politics is not for the faint of heart, I know because it's broken mine more than once.

You've put all of your effort, heart, soul (and money) into supporting your candidate. You believe that your candidate is the only person for the job and you don't understand why everyone else doesn't feel that way. You've focused on getting them elected to the exclusion of almost everything else. And when it's over, you feel empty.

I know how you feel.

I have sat in a daze in front of the TV waiting for a mistake or fraud to come to light that would change the outcome of the election. I have kicked the wall and sprained my ankle (and put a hole in the wall). I have cried myself to sleep in complete misery. I have felt hatred in my heart,

I know how you feel.

My mom was the one that finally put an end to my blue funk. She told me that I should be proud of myself for becoming involved and not let the loss by my candidate make me lose sight of why I got involved in the first place. I got involved to make a difference. I got involved because so many things were wrong in our country that I could no longer sit on the sidelines and just watch anymore.

So, be proud of yourself for all that you've done. It is ALL of our continued involvement that will force our government to truly be OUR government. It is OUR involvement that makes our country a DEMOCRACY. Remember why you got involved in the first place, remember the big picture.

We need to bring our troops home & take care of them, we need to strengthen our economy & create good jobs, we need to become less energy dependent & improve our environment. We need to educate all of our children & provide affordable accessable healthcare for all, we need to speak to our friends & our ememies and improve our battered image around the world.

We have so many important things to accomplish and we can only do it if we work together.

Most of US are Waiting to Exhale!

After thinking we had made tremendous growth in our country, It's sad to learn we still have A Lot of growing pains. The uninformed People need to understand those things that have been institutionalized to divide us should be shed now. That game has been played as they have been by the very people who laugh at The uninformed People's instinct to vote against their own self interest. That's the reason for the laughter from the 1% who tries to control what you hear, see, & think. Degree or no College Degree, We should all know how that game is played by now and avoid the pitfalls like the disease it is. The race card is a double-edged sword that cuts both ways as you try to keep someone else down you are literally keeping yourself down. The point of opening our communities to more than people that look like us is to know WE All RISE. The more we fight for growth beyond ourselves that laughter disappears. These uninformed People need to check themselves and realize that "old dog" needs a descent burial for the bright future that could be there for all of us. However, that Future could be lost to all of us if they don't. Many of us have waited 40 years for the historical events that are taking place right now. It would be a tear-shedding day again if we had to wait another 40 years before that bright future could be available again. That is why these historical events are happening. Many of us recognized what we missed 40 years ago and Why it lead us to Bush/Clinton/Bush years. Many of us also know who really won and lost during those years as well- that 1% group WON for 40 years. Do we really have to repeat this lesson again until we all learn it??!! As we all wait to exhale, why display the behavior of the lower species than a higher one that can think clearly. Yes, it sad to hear we lost West Virginia but it's worst when you know why. Why should {Obama} "Candidate's foot soldiers encounter name-calling, vandalism, bomb threats?" The whole world is wondering what's the answer to that question is.

WASHINGTON - Danielle Ross was alone in an empty room at the Obama campaign headquarters in Kokomo, Ind., a cellphone in one hand, a voter call list in the other. She was stretched out on the carpeted floor wearing laceless sky-blue Converses, stories from the trail on her mind. It was the day before Indiana's primary, and she had just been chased by dogs while canvassing in a Kokomo suburb. But that was not the worst thing to occur since she postponed her sophomore year at Middle Tennessee State University, in part to hopscotch America stumping for Barack Obama.

Here's the worst: In Muncie, a factory town in the east-central part of Indiana, Ross and her cohorts were soliciting support for Obama at malls, on street corners and in a Wal-Mart parking lot, and they ran into "a horrible response," as Ross put it, a level of anti-black sentiment that none of them had anticipated.

"The first person I encountered was like, 'I'll never vote for a black person,' " recalled Ross, who is white and just turned 20. "People just weren't receptive."

For all the hope and excitement Obama's candidacy is generating, some of his field workers, phone-bank volunteers and campaign surrogates are encountering a raw racism and hostility that have gone largely unnoticed — and unreported — this election season. Doors have been slammed in their faces. They've been called racially derogatory names (including the white volunteers). And they've endured malicious rants and ugly stereotyping from people who can't fathom that the senator from Illinois could become the first African American president.

The contrast between the large, adoring crowds Obama draws at public events and the gritty street-level work to win votes is stark. The candidate is largely insulated from the mean-spiritedness that some of his foot soldiers deal with away from the media spotlight.

Meeting Cruel Reaction

Victoria Switzer, a retired social studies teacher, was on phone-bank duty one night during the Pennsylvania primary campaign. One night was all she could take: "It wasn't pretty." She made 60 calls to prospective voters in Susquehanna County, her home county, which is 98 percent white. The responses were dispiriting. One caller, Switzer remembers, said he couldn't possibly vote for Obama and concluded: "Hang that darky from a tree!"

Documentary filmmaker Rory Kennedy, the daughter of the late Robert F. Kennedy, said she, too, came across "a lot of racism" when campaigning for Obama in Pennsylvania. One Pittsburgh union organizer told her he would not vote for Obama because he is black, and a white voter, she said, offered this frank reason for not backing Obama: "White people look out for white people, and black people look out for black people."

Obama campaign officials say such incidents are isolated, that the experience of most volunteers and staffers has been overwhelmingly positive.

The campaign released this statement in response to questions about encounters with racism: "After campaigning for 15 months in nearly all 50 states, Barack Obama and our entire campaign have been nothing but impressed and encouraged by the core decency, kindness, and generosity of Americans from all walks of life. The last year has only reinforced Senator Obama's view that this country is not as divided as our politics suggest."

Campaign field work can be an exercise in confronting the fears, anxieties and prejudices of voters. Veterans of the civil rights movement know what this feels like, as do those who have been involved in battles over busing, immigration or abortion. But through the Obama campaign, some young people are having their first experience joining a cause and meeting cruel reaction.

On Election Day in Kokomo, a group of black high school students were holding up Obama signs along U.S. 31, a major thoroughfare. As drivers cruised by, a number of them rolled down their windows and yelled out a common racial slur for African Americans, according to Obama campaign staffers.

Frederick Murrell, a black Kokomo High School senior, was not there but heard what happened. He was more disappointed than surprised. During his own canvassing for Obama, Murrell said, he had "a lot of doors slammed" in his face. But taunting teenagers on a busy commercial strip in broad daylight? "I was very shocked at first," Murrell said. "Then again, I wasn't, because we have a lot of racism here."

Vandalism, Bomb Threats

The bigotry has gone beyond words. In Vincennes, the Obama campaign office was vandalized at 2 a.m. on the eve of the primary, according to police. A large plate-glass window was smashed, an American flag stolen. Other windows were spray-painted with references to Obama's controversial former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and other political messages: "Hamas votes BHO" and "We don't cling to guns or religion. Goddamn Wright."

Ray McCormick was notified of the incident at about 2:45 a.m. A farmer and conservationist, McCormick had erected a giant billboard on a major highway on behalf of Farmers for Obama. He also was housing the Obama campaign worker manning the office. When McCormick arrived at the office, about two hours before he was due out of bed to plant corn, he grabbed his camera and wanted to alert the media. "I thought, this is a big deal." But he was told Obama campaign officials didn't want to make a big deal of the incident. McCormick took photos anyway and distributed some.

"The pictures represent what we are breaking through and overcoming," he said. As McCormick, who is white, sees it, Obama is succeeding despite these incidents. Later, there would be bomb threats to three Obama campaign offices in Indiana, including the one in Vincennes, according to campaign sources.

Obama has not spoken much about racism during this campaign. He has sought to emphasize connections among Americans rather than divisions. He shrugged off safety concerns that led to early Secret Service protection and has told black senior citizens who worry that racists will do him harm: Don't fret. Earlier in the campaign, a 68-year-old woman in Carson City, Nev., voiced concern that the country was not ready to elect an African American president.

"Will there be some folks who probably won't vote for me because I am black? Of course," Obama said, "just like there may be somebody who won't vote for Hillary because she's a woman or wouldn't vote for John Edwards because they don't like his accent. But the question is, 'Can we get a majority of the American people to give us a fair hearing?' "

Focus on the Issues

Today I was browsing through comments on a CNN article about Hillary's lead in West Virginia. Naturally I expected Obama's supporters to say something unfavorable about the article and Hillary's supporters to rally around it. What I did not expect, however, was how poorly the Obama supporters conducted themselves. There were a lot of comments about how West Virginia does not matter, how the people there are rednecks, idiots, racists, etc. After about a page or two of that the Hillary supporters started changing away from comments about the article and towards comments about Obama supporters and their actions. They started posting at how such comments pushed them away and made them want to vote for McCain if Obama gets the nomination. Honestly, after reading those posts, I can't blame them.

This campaign is supposed to be about change. We support this campaign because we want to change the way politics are done in this country. The core of that change is focusing on the issues instead of using smear tactics and dirty politics. We want our candidates to start looking at the big picture and not just focus on one state, one demographic but ALL states and ALL demographics. Yes, that change has to occur amongst the candidates but that change has to occur amonst ourselves as well. We cannot talk about how great it is for Obama to focus on the issues while we ourselves focus on degrading Hillary Clinton and her supporters.

One thing Barack Obama would never say is that ANY American's vote doesn't count. Whether a citizen is voting for Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, John McCain or anyone else they wish to vote for their vote counts and their opinion matters. That is what this country is about. I do not support Hillary and I have the right not to support her but to claim that right I cannot deny the right of Hillary supporters to vote for her and not support Barack Obama. One of us may be making a bad decision. Neither a Clinton supporter nor an Obama supporter believes that they are the one making the mistake, otherwise they wouldn't continue in their support. However, that does not make either one an idiot, a racist, a sexist, or what have you. They may very well be one or all of those things but it simply is not logical to draw that opinion JUST on which candidate one supports and it isn't fair or nice to do so.

So please, if you are a Barack Obama supporter be mindful of what you say and what you do. Look at the big picture beyond winning the primary and even beyond winning the general election. We want to change politics not just for this election but PERMANENTLY so that our nation will stop being about hatred and start being about improving the lives of all American citizens.

If I Were Hillary

I'd feel quite hurt.

But I'd get over it. I'd show the world what I'm made of.

Having labored hard to convince everyone I'm a fighter, I'd snap my fingers, call a press conference, and say: "Now I'm going to fight for Obama for President."

Too much to ask?

Let's take count. The votes are in, and Obama's almost there. There's hardly a big pool of votes now for grabbing.

The money's irritating. The most loyal supporters are maxed out on the legal limit. Those who might contribute are out checking weather balloons. Somehow, campaign suppliers and vendors must get paid.

Numbers, numbers. Why does it always come down to crunching in the end? I'd say it's a defining moment, but that phrase is taken, and turning point won't work in my favor.

How to exit? How to turn this to advantage. I love the Democratic Party. I don't want to go down as a spoiler. I don't want to go down, and I need to stay up. What can be done?

Action Memo:

1. I'll call a big press conference. They'll all expect sad soul-searching. I'll surprise them, I'll be the most positive person in the room.

2. They'll expect me to give up. I won't! I'll just switch goalposts. My new goal will be electing a Democrat in November, even if it's not me.

3. I'll do it so fast heads will spin. I'll still campaign in all the primaries, of course, but I'll do it for Obama. Gracious yields points.

4. I won't blackmail anyone. I'll do it by showing how positive I can be. If they think they've seen me reinvent, they ain't seen nothing yet. I can do this. Yes I Can!

5. I'll take the reins. I'll ask my supporters to work for Obama's success. I'll tell them we must beat Republicans. I'll motivate them. I'll lead them. I'm their leader.

6. I'll do such a good job of supporting and being positive and leading, Barack will offer me some nice plum and I'll deserve it. I can work really hard, and I will.

7. What will I do about Bill? I know, we'll work together to elect a Democrat. Bill's good at that. This will be good for him too.

8. That leaves the people who defected. I'll surprise them too! I'll tell them it's okay. I really will forgive them. Noblesse oblige. I can do this! It's time!

Advice when making phone calls.

Hello Obama suppporters!

I haven't written back in a while but I am here to share my recent experience in making phone calls through Indiana and North Carolina. When I heard that Senator Clinton was closing the gap in North Carolina and that Senator Obama had troubles gaining the working class voters I thought there was an urgent problem to solve!

It didn't take me long to realize that the Clinton campaign's strategy of painting OBama as a liability for the general elections was working. It's unfair that Senator Obama would be depicted as an elitist knowing that he was raised by a single teenage mom, went to college thanks to scholarships and that his years of public service would deliberately be thrown under the table because of distractions. There was no doubt in my mind that our response had to be straightforward in handling those distractions and that calling people in voting states was important in setting the record straight.

It's been very hard to make my first calls because some were very disagreable. Someone clearly told me "forget it" when she heard I was voluntering for Obama... Well you bet I was just getting started! Thanfully, I fell on a much nicer woman who happened to be the wife of the person I had to call. I was very nervous talking to someone I never met but then I was convinced that as human beings, we could always establish a connection. So I did not read the script that was generated by the website. Instead, I listened and I answered as if I was talking to someone I darely cared about.

Steven's wife told me that she was undecided because her family is catholic and they oppose the right to abortion and she found out that both democrats won't vote against it. At the same time, she acknowledges that times don't call for a Republican to be sent at the White House. So I told her that no candidate would reflect all her values but as a proud American citizen, she had the possibility to express her voice on the most critical issues facing this great nation. I advised her very respectfully to consider Iraq and the economy as a focus to heal this country. She agreed with me that Barack Obama had a very right judgment on both and she was the one to mention the gas tax policy. Many Americans have died in Iraq and its time to call for an end to this war. She thanked me for helping her and that made me proud because I was not only interested in giving Barack Obama a vote but giving America a vote for I know that if Obama wins, America wins.

My advice to people making phone calls: Focus on what we have in common rather than all these distractions which only reinforce divisions. America is one people, one nation...you need to make this a vote for the country rather than for Obama. That's how you convince an undecided voter to vote for the right candidate. Undecided voters are people with wisdom who want to make sure that they won't regret their vote like those who voted for Bush may be feeling right now. Talk to their minds and hearts not just one or the other. It's important they understand your rationality and feel your patriotism. Remember, you are not reaching out to potential Obama voters or to Clinton backers, or republicans, you are reaching out to Americans and that makes your message uniform and strong.

Please feel free to message me if you want to find better ways to handle these phone calls. They are a good opportunity to come close to voters and make sure they have been hearing the right things. SO even if you fall on people who decline your invitation to engage in a conversation, you need to persist and remember that you are not doing this for yourself or Obama but for this country which will shelter many generations to come. Your actions in these elections would be part of your legacy as an American citizen to this country.

I'm very humbled and thankful that so many people are starting to read my personal blog posts here on this site. I've been getting so many great comments lately, especially on some of my more controversial posts regarding the fraudulent "war on terror", the "war" in Iraq, 9/11, and war crimes by the Bush administration. I am pleased to know that my views are not too radical for the Obama community and I am humbled by the great feedback.

That being said, I would like to use my small soap box to shine the spotlight on one of the most loyal, passionate, scrutinizing and generous Obama supporters I know. My Gram.

That's right, my grandmother, Dorothy B., way out in the great state of Maine - is my true partner in this Obama movement, which has partially taken over our lives. My Gram, like many retired Americans, is on a fixed income, yet makes regular monthly and even weekly donations to the Obama movement. We email each other articles of interest and we call each other for uplifting and optimistic news about the incredible Obama campaign. Though she no longer drives, doesn't own a car, and lives in the coldest state in the country, she travelled to Bangor to see Obama speak there in the middle of the coldest month there. She is fired up.

Moreover, she is my true sidekick when it comes to unearthing the gross and utterly expansive list of misdeeds carried out by the worst President and administration in our country's history. We constantly outdo each other in our patriotic investigation of war crimes, lies, deception, war profiteering, racketeering, corporate chicanery and all other forms of abuse by the Executive branch of our government. While she is much more positive, optimistic and does not spew the venomous bile about Bush & Cheney that I have been known to, she is thoroughly disgusted with the lies and mismanagment that has been the cornerstone of this President. Gotta love her for that.

She loves Keith Olberman and got me into watching him.

She is devout watcher of CSPAN, and got me interested in watching. One of the only non-biased channels left.

She sent me a copy of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights for Christmas and has encouraged me to keep those great words always in my mind. And I have.

She has seen a lot in her day, and she is more involved in shaping our country's destiny now than ever before.

I love my Gram, that's for sure. She is a true Obama supporter and a fierce patriot.

Just this morning, she was putting a kind spin on Gov. Ed Rendell, who I consider a total weasel) who she feels probably knows deep down that Obama will win his state and the nomination. That's my Gram!

You probably won't see her on the blogs, but she's out there - supporting our guy and sending money.

And she's keeping me inspired, which in turn is helping me fire a few people up, which in turn is helping Obama become President, which will undoubtedly help us fix our ailing country.

Keep up the great work, Gram - we love you here in Obamaland!

All over the world, Obama supporters are gathering on famous bridges to celebrate Barack Obama's ability to unify and reach out to others--to make bridges. Today several of us in Rome went to Castel Sant'Angelo Bridge to show our solidarity with Obama and the world.

Democratic Party officials have got to take the donkey by the tail here and restore dignity to this race. Hillary Clinton is unfit to be president of the United States.

The Clinton campaign has slammed Barack Obama for the words of his pastor, and for attending a church that entertained controversial ideas. What about Hillary's close affiliation with someone, namely Bill Clinton, who is her closest advisor, who lied to the Grand Jury and was impeached from the Presidency of the United States? !!!

The Clinton campaign relentlessly chased Governor Bill Richardson (D-NM) for his endorsement, and when she didn't get it, Hillary said it didn't matter. She and her campaign then went on to slam Governor Richardson, accusing him of being disloyal. In reality, her actions were disloyal and glaringly symptomatic of a seriously corrupt mentality. Do we want a president who will trash people who express dissent? Don't we have that now, in George W. Bush?

Hillary Clinton has betrayed her very own supporters by being dishonest, by consistently eluding the truthful response to direct questions, by holding back her 2006 tax returns, by her actions and words against people of her own party who disagree with her.

Hillary Clinton has effected the ultimate betrayal of her supporters and donors by her attempt to justify this division she's causing in the Democratic Party in all 50 states, the attempts to irrepairably damage a fellow Democrat, and the horrific blemishes she's making on the image of our American political system for those who view this from foreign nations - all in the effort to win at all costs!

Hillary Clinton has already proven that she cannot compete fairly. She has already demonstrated that she is visciously opportunistic, that self-proclaimed sleep-deprivation renders her memory and judgment dysfunctional. These are just the most recent revelations about why she is not fit to be president, no matter how hard she tries, or how bad she wants it, or how entitled she feels she is to it.

Hillary Clinton has done one good thing for her supporters, and that is to reveal her deep flaws in time for voters to change their preferences. By not withdrawing from the race, Hillary Clinton makes a statement that she'd rather destroy the party, and everyone in her path, before admitting the truth that she can't be president. This same attitude is what got us 8 years of George W. Bush.

Though I have not seen the report from Fox News in which the quasi-journalistic news organization apparently attempts to portray Obama’s online supporters as a collection of marginalized and fringe-minded loons, I am still rather disturbed by Fox News's ineffectual reporting. I see many references to the group that called themselves the New Black Panther Party, which was promptly removed from the groups section of the Obama campaign website. Naturally, the enormity of a site that allows any and everyone to freely create a profile and participate (negatively as well as positively alike), ensures that there will be some who are of the less acceptable nature. Fox’s "story", however, was apparently cobbled together by cherry picking those individuals and posters who have created inappropriate or blatantly discreditable accounts and posts on the Obama website which were neither typical nor tolerated by the website administrators nor the community of supporters on that site (supporters, it should be noted, who have gathered in great part to share the merits of voicing their hopes and concerns with regard to their personal political beliefs - a silly act, surely, as such things are only mildly acknowledged in the founding documents of this nation). The implications of Fox’s ham-handed story - and dare I say the propagandistic techniques in general - with which Fox News continues to slant their reporting is a disgrace to the journalistic integrity for which their profession so desperately calls. The compounded ridicule of simply panning for the ridiculous is the news equivalent of picking ones nose and wiping the contents on someone else in order to incite a desired reaction. Childish, certainly. Manipulative, absolutely. Annoying, to say the least. Dangerous, without a doubt.

Fox’s reporting is, quite simply, sensationalism. Muckraking is a badge of honor for old habits of those who are either so bitter they cannot perceive they’ve become the phonies and crackpots they ridicule; or that the world is anything less than a stage for diatribes and sycophantic notions that further bleed a hapless applause that is waning from an audience of disinterested yet loyal friends and family members who at one time actually hoped that you could break away, break out, from the doldrums filled, dead ended, and petty rancor of this place and actually excel beyond the mediocre. “But it’s your time to take the stage… and look, it’s you… again… in the same costume that’s never been washed or repaired and that pulls at the sides from your personal neglect. And it’s you… again… in the role that made you so popular in your mind… a signature role, yet signifying nothing…”

Though Fox must surely relish the praise it receives from the droves of the disdained who cheer it on (though never to be outdone by Fox’s own self aggrandizement), Fox must surely see the others off in the distance who are simply wondering why Fox would choose to so celebrate itself when there is no one of quality doing the celebrating… or being celebrated. And how does one hoist with such pride the flag of idiocy and contempt? ‘Tis in the very act itself. Feign deriding the erudition if it must, but one has to question the brainpower spent on sorting and keeping Fox’s myriad of inequities and corrosives in a corrupted inventory for the constant battle that rages on in its heart. This strange landscape that it seemingly fights to secure, yet destroys in the waging. What good is there in this empty place lest we ourselves be good in it? It’s not in you… thus leave it to me.

I would ponder the shame I hope Fox could feel, but it brings no joy, or fixes no problem, or ends no suffering. It, like the notion of damning an enemy or his hate, accomplishes nothing and is ultimately worthless. The truest cost is to civility… and pride doesn’t pay those bills. But then consideration must be present for one to reconsider the danger and damage it caused. Yet, consideration should’ve prevented it in the first place.

The event was held to mark the 5th anniversary of the war in Iraq. I'm the one on the far right, alongside my Obama neighbor Victor Zamarippa! Yes Barack Obama has been chosen to carry a burden that is a heavy burden to bear, but Barack is not the element here. Open your eyes people!! Barack Obama, with all do respect, is the instrument. He is the instrument; and the people, you and I, We are the element. We are the driving force behind this CHANGE. So many have become confused and consumed by specific issues that have arisen throughout this historic event. We all have a right to be excited; we have a right to be anxious and many have a right to be afraid. Why you ask? Because these are natural emotions that occur whenever there is a major CHANGE such as the one that we are experiencing right now.

It's called CHANGE!!! And historically people are naturally afraid of CHANGE!!! Just look back throughout history. They fought against ending slavery (CHANGE). They fought against giving blacks equal rights (CHANGE). They fought against equal rights for the most precious living specimen on this planet WOMEN, WOMEN, WOMEN, WOMENS right to vote (CHANGE), WOMENS right at a fair chance in the work place (CHANGE) WOMENS right to choose (CHANGE)! I don't know why everyone is so surprised. If we look at history, what we are going through right now is evolution, growth, history in the making (CHANGE)!!!!

I agree that we all should be anxious, nervous, excited, but we should be all of these things for a different reason though. Not because we are terrified but instead because we see the reality of what is absolutely possible. Although this is difficult, this CHANGE that we all speak of, that we all dream of, that we all thirst for is not only POSSIBLE but very much PROBABLE. Yes! It is difficult. But the reality that we all have to clear our eyes and see is that it rest in our hands. Yes Barack has been chosen to carry a burden that is a heavy burden to bear, but Barack is not the ELEMENT here. Open your eyes people!! Barack Obama, with all do respect is the INSTRUMENT. He is the INSTRUMENT and the people, you and I, We are the ELEMENT. We are the driving force behind this change.

The one constant throughout history is CHANGE! It is inevitable. CHANGE happens regardless of weather we want it or not. CHANGE occurs despite the strongest opposition. And when there are millions of voices screaming for CHANGE, there is no Media outlet, no Right Ring Swift Boating; nor Racial or Religious hatred that can possibly drown out these millions of voices. It’s unstoppable!

The thing that we have to realize is that we the people are the Power, Fuel, Muscle, Influence; the Driving Force behind this change. No matter what the media or anyone else says, this is our government, this is our country and our voices will be heard. All we have to do is ensure that we continue to use our voices. Barack Obama is but the main ingredient that this country has been waiting on. A wise man said over a year ago that “This Change Won’t Come Easy”. And he was exactly right. Something as significant as this cannot be expected to come easy. There are those who are terrified of the implication that this change is screaming at all of us.

So we cannot sit around and pout because FOX news said this, or because CNN didn’t report that. We cannot mope around and cry because Sean Hannity is so mean and cruel or because Lou Dobbs is an idiot, or because Bill O’Reilly has no clue what he is talking about, or even because most of the media talking heads are afraid to tell the truth. We have to scream as loud as we can that we want CHANGE. We have to use the most powerful tool that our forefathers afforded us with the writing of our CONSTITUTION. With that document they gave us something that lives within all of us. They gave us AMERICA. I am America and you are America. We are America and when we make our voices heard that is America speaking. Your voice is America saying that they had better listen because she wants CHANGE. She wants to grow and if it is the will of the people She will grow. We have the power.

Not Fox News! Not CNN! Not the DNC! Not even the President! We’re America and throughout history it’s been proven that when we speak; when we raise our voices; when that fire in our eyes is clearly visible from across the table, there’s no choice but to listen and adhere to what She (AMERICA) is saying. So I challenge you all to fight. This country was built on the simple vision of a small colony that decided to fight against amazing and seemingly insurmountable odds. This country was founded on what seemed to be the impossible and has continued to prosper on the inevitable promise of CHANGE! Stop sitting around complaining and wasting your time bickering about what they say cannot be done. Get out and act like real Americans and motivate your neighbor to raise his or her voice. Let your voice be heard, literally get out of your house and let your voice be heard. This is a country of free speech. Let your government, your neighbors, your barber, your butcher, your sister, your brother, let them know that you want CHANGE, that AMERICA wants change. Open your mouths and honor those that came before us that gave us this right to Freedom of Speech. Honor those Women that struggled so that we can have a woman running for President right now. Honor all the blacks that were beaten and killed so that blacks today can vote and have a fair and equal say in the direction of this country. Honor those men and women who fought and died so that we can have a BLACK MAN running for President. They’re all smiling down upon us right now, waiting to see what we will do. John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Alice Paul, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Jeannette Rankin, Malcolm X, Fredrick Douglas. They all fought for us and their voices were heard. Barack Obama has had an enormous burden placed on his shoulders, but again I say unto you Barack isn’t the ELEMENT, PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA is the INSTRUMENT. we should be concerned. bill and hillary’s recent assertions of an unstoppable clinton-obama ticket is one of clinton’s best strategies yet, which is to say her least debaucherous attempt. i’m willing to offer her credit where credit is finally due: a non-negative approach at building her base that is not entirely a lie. obama might always say no, but perhaps clinton honestly intends to lobby for her dream team. so why should we be concerned folks? duh. ohio and texas have shown how easily a state can be duped or scared! no matter how many times "her dream team" is debunked as "impossible" (words of speaker nancy pelosi), some voters might be distracted by the shiny metal object dangling over to the right.

when the texas and ohio smear campaigns first kicked up, even obama admits that he was surprised how much the press embraced things he had shrugged off... having given the american people the benefit of the doubt. ironically, the press wrote far more about the NAFTAgate lies alleged days before the elections in ohio and texas than the NAFTAgate truth that we know today. and this time, it is a case of the press saving face than bias.

in marketing, the truth is far less important than the public perception of what is believed to be true. in marketing, messaging parity and repitition are smart ways to get your message remembered. in marketing, the main goals are controlling perception and message recall.

therefore, for each time bill or hillary assert a vote for clinton is a vote for obama to be vice president, obama must attack that logic twice as much and deliver it exactly how he did today:

~ the second place candidate offering the first place candidate a consoluation prize?

~ reminding that bill and hillary stated on record that they would select a VPcapable of serving as president on day one... criticizing obama for not being vetted... asserting obama is the perfect VP

clinton's new strategy is to lure undecided voters as well as weak obama supporters to her gingerbread house. as usual, she banks on the american people's gullibility which aided her well on march 4. hillary and bill are suggesting that a vote for clinton is a vote for the hillary-obama ticket.

yet, she is admitting her major weakness: clinton can't win on her own merits, and her odds against mccain are not as good as obama's odds. while she has reason to ask obama to be her running mate on the sad chance she wins the nomination, analysts and i agree that obama does not need clinton to win a general election. the vast majority of clinton supporters will vote for barack obama when he wins the nomination.

unlike clinton, barack obama is poised to beat the republican nominee. obama supporters, some of whom have never been inspired enough to participate in the voting process or whom are independent, may not support hillary clinton. these inspired supporters of obama may choose to sit out again or vote mccain... should hillary clinton win the nomination. for years, the youth promised they would "rock the vote" and yet, until this year, they never showed up.

all in all, this may be her best strategy yet. clinton should have launched it in place of her sinister smear campaigns to dupe ohio and scare texas. educated voters would have still seen through her plan, but at least i could have admired her for placing obama "in check" via cunning strategy rather than by cheating and spinning blame obama’s way for underhanded double-talk the canadian investigation revealed had surfaced from team clinton instead!

obama needs to be as vocal as possible about how untrue and absurd any such deduction is whereby a vote for clinton is still supporting obama and his promise for change. i also applaud speaker nancy pelosi for also speaking out against such absurdities.

for those of you that did not hear, prior to this new strategy, speaker nancy pelosi met with team clinton campaign management to voice disapproval for comments that had been made that pracitically endorsed john mccain for president. reportedly, team clinton has also been scolded as the true source of NAFTAgate for which team clinton blamed on obama to discredit his long, consistent stance on NAFTA in the state of ohio. reportedly, the reponse from clinton campaign management was that they will continue whatever works in their favor.

i wrote this to a teamster who was proud to switch his vote from obama to clinton the day before the election because of the false allegations that clinton's campaign began feeding to question obama's integrity on NAFTA.

"SHAME ON YOU FOR NOT DOING YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE CHANGING YOUR VOTE, JUST LIKE HILLARY CLINTON FAILED DO HER HOMEWORK WHEN ENGAGING IN WAR WITHOUT READING THE NIE. YOU WERE DUPED.

THE UNDENIABLE/DOCUMENTED TRUTH REMAINS:
1) as first lady, clinton supported NAFTA
2) as US senator, she commended the impact/benefit
3) as author of her autobiographical book , she coined NAFTA as a legislative successes of the clinton administration, of which she counts 8 years towards her "experience"

while i concede that CLINTON has shifted her position to agree with OBAMA, her previous poor judgment should be acknowledged and not blindly trusted.

first of all, the original AP article recognizes that the individual did not retract any belief OBAMA has expressed consistently for years towards NAFTA. furthermore, the article recognizes that the individual (who incidentally is an advisor to OBAMA) attended a previously scheduled meeting as a representative of the university of chicago separate from his work with the campaign. furthermore, it was alleged that a clinton representative also made retractions to the canadian government... for some reason this was less publicized, but the canadians, clinton, and OBAMA each deny this story as it relates to their involvement. however, clinton's camp is obviously feeding a smear campaign against OBAMA.

MUST WATCH:
canadian parliament feels so strongly that canadian officials fed false allegations to undermine obama's campaign that resignations are being demanded!"

TODAY, AN OBAMA AID RESIGNS FOR CALLING HILLARY CLINTON A MONSTER!!! again, obama is keeping on target with his messaging... but do you know why clinton was dubbed a monster???

clinton seized the popular vote by a small margin, largely resulting from erroneous scare tactics and the smear campaigns she fed during the days leading up to march 4. when you review the exit polls, her last efforts especially crippled obama in ohio. clinton gained majority of union and religious support. this is in spite of obama winning the key union endorsements impacting ohio and leading union endorsements nationwide. this is in spite continued reassurance that obama is a devout christian and an appearance of both candidates on 60 minutes. yet, even in her appearance on 60 minutes, when asked about obama being muslim, senator clinton responded, "there's nothing to base that on... at least not that i know."

I have decided to compile supporter stories and put them into a book. Everyone calls the Barack following a phenomenon; we call it a call for change.

Let's tell those people our stories.

If you are interested in being a part of the book, please email your story to seattlechic@gmail.com.

I have already started typing out my story...doesn't need to be long or fancy, and don't be worried about grammatical errors, if there is any editing needed we will do it and send you a final proof to approve.

I plan to have a portion of the proceeds (or should I say as much as law will allow) go to Barack's campaign for the presidency...once he is officially the nominee. =) Whatever I cannot donate to Barack will go to Brad Pitt’s Make It Right, creating housing for Katrina victims.

Please include your name (first and last if you don't mind, if you do mind than just first), city and state. If you would like to include a headshot, go ahead and attach that as well. At this point I am not sure if they will be included, but at least I will have them available.

This is our chance to explain to the people that this is not a phenomenon; this is over a million voices crying for change.

I am flying down to Texas to help with the effort there through the 4th and will only be able to review and respond to emails in little bits and pieces. Feel free to take your time writing this story, as of current I don’t have a deadline for a completed project, but I am going to estimate it will be about three weeks. If I don't get back to you right away, please be patient.

Being an American instills in oneself a sense of pride, knowing how many die to become one just like myself. But I am also a realist and can honestly say that Americans, specifically United States citizens, can easily be moved from one stance to another direction as easy as the wind. I believe that the majority of citizens do not know how to take a strong stand against anything and remain there. I say this speaking as a Los Angeles native where opinions change as quickly as trends. I say this also having lived through eight years of George W. Bush that eight years ago people swore wouldn't let happen, and that four years ago people swore would not let happen again.I feel that there is a great movement going on today, a movement towards what's right for the American people. Our movement's leader is Senator Barack Obama who is fighting a clean fight for the 2008 Presidency. We finally have someone running for office that wants to fight for what the American people believe in (and by "finally" I mean in recent years). Senator Barack Obama wants change--and change does not come easy. With change comes resistance and a lot of downplay of the problem.

Now is the time for Barack's supporters to follow his lead and reflect the elevated tone of his candidacy.

The Clinton campaign is in deep trouble. If we keep pushing, keep working, keep donating- Barack may well wrap up the nomination soon.

But we must behave the same "when we are up as when we were down." We must behave with civility and graciousness.

Bashing Hillary serves no purpose. Guess what- we need her and her supporters in order to win the election in November. Only a united and excited Democratic party, under Barack's leadership, can turn the GOP smear machine against itself.

The goal is to create The New Majority which consists of non-partisan Americans determined to FINALLY GET SOMETHING DONE about health care, Iraq, the energy and environmental crisis, education, the faltering economy... the whole list of urgent issues.

Please, step back from the heat of the campaign and recognize Hillary for the outstanding public servant she is. Please recognize Barack may well ask her to be on the ticket.

PLEASE, please look at the facts: 70 percent of Democrats, a huge majority, like BOTH candidates. Please, please listen to the pain in this voice as Rep. Lewis of Georgia decided to switch allegiance from Hillary to Barack. Congressman Lewis is a great civil rights leader, yet he says this decision was more difficult than leading the great march in Selma, Alabama.

Please, please respect Hillary's supporters. Many of them have longed for decades for a Democratic President who is a woman. It is painful for them to give up that hope, at least for a while.

Most of Hillary Clinton's supporters share our values. Let us share Barack's campaign with them.

Dodd Endorses Obama - Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen. Christopher Dodd endorsed one-time presidential rival Barack Obama on Tuesday and said it is time for Democrats to join forces to defeat the Republicans in the fall campaign.
"I don't want a campaign that is divisive here, and there's a danger in that," Dodd said, although he denied he was nudging Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton to end her candidacy.

Dodd said Obama was "ready to be president and I am ready to support him in this campaign."

The two men appeared together at a news conference. Dodd is the first of the Democratic campaign dropouts to endorse another candidate.

He said Obama "has been poked and prodded, analyzed and criticized, called too green, too trusting and for all of that has already won" more than half the states and millions of votes.

Dodd said he spoke with Clinton on Monday evening to tell her of his decision.

Dodd said he wasn't worried that the candidates would go too far in their pursuit of victory, but that their aides and supporters might.

"We've witnessed a little bit of that" in recent days, he said.

That was an apparent reference to a photograph that shows Obama wearing a white turban and a wraparound white robe that was presented to him by elders in Wajir, in northeastern Kenya.

The gossip and news website The Drudge Report posted the photograph Monday and said it was being circulated by "Clinton staffers" and quoted an e-mail from an unidentified campaign aide. Drudge did not include proof of the e-mail in the report.

The Clinton campaign has said it did not sanction circulation of the photo.

Obama told reporters, "I don't think that photograph was circulated to enhance my candidacy, I think that's fair to say.

"... Do I think that is reflective of Senator Clinton's approach to the campaign, probably not."

Supporters Who Understand Barack Fully Will Model His Attitude of Respect

One of Barack's unique characteristics is his respect for others. This respect is most evident in (1) in his response to criticism, and (2) his attitude when expressing his disagreement or differences with another. He expresses and informs, without devaluing Hillary or McCain.

You will notice that when he is criticized, rather than attacking back with a criticism, he is able to tolerate the vulnerability of the judgment. He typically pauses briefly and then responds with information, which he expresses in the form of explanation rather than in a tone of excuse. This information is expressed directly and typically does not include any hidden sarcasm, devaluation, or passive attacks on the other. Instead, he is able to hear the comments and to respond without the need to protect his ego; in some sense he is able to inform without being attached to the opinion of the other person. This allows him to remain objective, to remain respectful, and to sustain dialogue with the other person who will more likely listen to him openly if he has listened respectfully first.

When he expresses disagreement or differences between himself and others, he typically does so in a tone and attitude of imparting information rather than in a tone of devaluing the person. Similarly, it would be uncharacteristic for him to disregard or devalue someone with a smirk, eye roll, or snide chuckle. He does sometimes poke fun, but most often it seems to be self-directed.

These points are important, not simply in their highlighting his strength of integrity and respect, but also to highlight the importance of our modeling these qualities as supporters and advocates of his campaign. When we devalue Hillary or McCain or Bush, we aren't really supporting Barack. Our best support comes in the form of respect while listening fully to others; informing them of Barack's record, strengths, and plan; and when needed comparing candidates with a tone of objectively imparting information rather than one that is devaluing anyone. This will require a bit more effort on our part to read his Blueprint, read his books, and listen to his speeches; we won't have the short-cut of diverting attention away by criticizing others. The extra effort is well worth the difference it will make in our ability to inform others through both our knowledge and our attitude/way of being.

At the Obama Rally in Wilmington, DE there were an estimated 20,000+ people who lined up to see and hear him. They waited in line from early morning and most could recognize that everyone would not be able to get into the venue. I was impressed that everyone remained cooperative and respectful, managing their own anxieties about getting into the venue by asking questions but not expressing frustration or anger. I did not see or hear of any aggression, shoving, or even harsh words. Each individual and the group as a whole seemed to model his faith, unity, respect, and shared responsibility. One woman walked several blocks to get coffee for several with her, only to realize after she ordered that she'd forgotten her money. Another woman loaned her the money and trusted the woman's promise to find and repay her at the venue. Given the thousands already at the rally, this promise may have seemed unrealistic. But their faith and trust in each other proved realistic ... she was able to find the woman and repay her before the start of the rally.

My sense that day was that this crowd had demonstrated the profound social changes which come from a sense of hope, unity, and pride which Barack inspires in us.

I encourage volunteers and supporters to consider their own responses and attitudes in an effort to model these values when representing his campaign and being lived examples of the changes that have already begun.

I am really proud of the way Senator Obama repeatedly brought the focus back to the real priorities of this campaign in last night's debate. In one smooth move, in the space of about 6 minutes, he managed to:

reiterated the primacy of his active advocacy to not only improve lives, but to improve government
went to bat on behalf of his supporters, effectively dismissing the ongoing trope that the millions who chose his kind of leadership are somehow out of touch with reality
emphasized the importance of inspiring the nation to overcome divisions in order to get things done
neutralized the plagiarism fracas as "silly season in politics" (personal favorite) that discourages many
rounded it all up with a hearty helping of beef and potatoes
- making good jobs and good wages more accessible
- making healthcare available and affordable; a $4,000 ethically minded tuition credit to make college affordable
- a tax code that responds to the needs of the American family
- ending the war in Iraq and investing resources at home
- ... and then some...

So here's an idea:

There is a rift between supporters for the democratic candidates which I think we can all do something to repair. How about we take the initiative to be conciliatory in preparation for the convention? How about we make every effort to be welcoming and inviting to Senator Clinton's supporters?

Each one of us has talents we could apply to healing this rift, or exacerbating it. We can choose to neutralize potentially incendiary trends in many of the blogs we comment on. I have already seen many Obama supporters do it very effectively on NYT Caucus, Politico and elsewhere. So I write to you with the hope that many more of us can contribute to neutralizing the currents of bad blood flowing between the two groups of supporters and help make it easier for the Democrats to arrive at the August convention in unity.

NAFTA self-mailer: economy boon myth

as a marketing person, i assure there are absolutely no false claims in barack obama's ohio self-mailer. i applaud the obama campaign for the honest, blunt marketing shedding light on yet another dark corner in clinton's experience.

undeniably, as first lady, clinton supported NAFTA and she was vocal in doing so. furthermore, only a few short years later, she commended the progress gained by our nation via NAFTA. as a new york senator, she continued to express continued support of NAFTA and wrote in her autobiographical book that NAFTA was one of the legislative successes of the clinton administration, of which she counts 8 years towards her "experience." like much of her "experience" on issues like NAFTA, health care, civil rights and unions... hillary clinton wants to take credit for what is still good about her husband's administration and discount what has proven bad... hillary clinton wants to count her age, but not her actions... at least the ones that are no longer popular.

it's important to be right on day one. therefore, we should all be contrasting obama's consistent, uncompromising leadership to clinton via our blogs and daily conversations.

i assert that honesty and careful dissemination of information is important for obama surrogates and volunteers. in fact, it is critical to our platform's spirit. some blogs on here share inaccurate information, and i alert the authors by commenting. but, it is our responsibility to alert our friends and neighbors to the brilliance toni morrison describes that she sees in barack obama. furthermore, we should be in tune with how obama's plans, as outlined on his site, distinguish him from senator clinton. let self-mailers, the press, and devoted supporters do the dirty work while obama's messaging remains on spot.

in contrast to obama's spirit, senator clinton appeared on channel 9 news in cincinnati. hillary specifically stated that she had proposed universal health care. in addition, clinton asserted that barack obama does not believe in universal health care! wtf? in fact, neither candidate is proposing a true universal plan based on the widely accepted ideology in most of europe, canada, and cuba. however, obama's plan is certainly closer to the ideology of universal health care than clinton's mandated ideas.

in marketing, the truth means less than public perception of what is true. at least obama's insight equips him to distinguish the difference as he did in the south carolina debate. clinton was redefining the word "universal" to her advantage. since obama hesitated to dub his plan univeral, she attempted to trick americans. experts expect obama's plan to be virtually univeral and clinton simply mandates coverage. just because clinton forces us to pay for coverage, doesn't mean people can afford it. otherwise, we would have heath care now. duh. (see my blogs for more) 80 economists, and the like, endorsed obama's plan.

what's my point? clinton and her surrogates tell blatant lies. the informed voter recognizes the lies as dirty politics, but the ill-informed voters base decisions off sound bytes... trusting tv. clinton is counting on their naive nature.

the marketing piece in question states that clinton "BELIEVED." perhaps people infer clinton spoke the word "boon" rather than the newsday reporter choosing the word based out of an interview in 2006. what's the difference? at least our team is not stating that clinton "said" boon directly just as our team should not state that clinton does not believe in universal health care.

our team, however, should make sure that voters know that mandated health care, as clinton proposes, is not universal health care! heed my advice above and be confident that obama's campaign has been brilliant in messaging and honesty. in fact, those were the first two attributes that lured me to listen and read more about what obama could do for our nation.

The recent running trope meant to vilify Obama supporters has indeed been worrisome and not-just-a-little irritating. But we know who we are and why we support Senator Obama.

We are teachers and students and veterans and mothers and fathers, workers and entrepreneurs, managers, assistants, self-employed, cleaning crew, geniuses, thinkers, loggers, surfers, mathematicians, philosophers, latte drinkers, barbecuers, vegans, grandmothers, grandfather, comedians, bureaucrats, soap stars, pop singers, activists, humanitarians, big shots, little fish, even some journalists... the list goes on.

We want to do our part in making a better world and so we have thrown our lot with the candidate who trusts our good will and believes in our ability to make a difference.

When I ask myself, who are all these people who support Barack Obama: who do we have to thank for the phenomenal growth of this campaign, this movement?

These are the people I see and hear on my.barackobama.com and in newspapers and magazines and in tv coverage of rallies, speeches, visibility and GOTV drives. And it is on them that I focus my attention and energy.

Alongside them I do what very little I can to help achieve our common objective, because I truly believe that even though we are all so different in our material and personal interests, we have a candidate who has helped us prove that we can make a difference when we chose to.

And when our efforts can no longer be ignored, ridiculed, diminished or vilified, they will be respected because everyone will be the better for it.

Fun and Funds for Barack...

We did a great job in CD 29 and our Congressman Schiff is doing a great job making the case for Obama in the MSM. I know we have quite a few contests to call for but I was wondering about doing some unique fundraising for Barack. Here are some of my ideas and I was wondering what you all thought...

1) Barack Rummage Sale...clean out you house like we'll clean out the White House...gather together and make calls and talking to shoppers about Obama. If we did in a visable location it might even get some media attention.

2) Bowling for Barack...I live in Montrose and there is a bowling alley that is rented for private parties...$50 dollars a couple for bowling with prizes for high scores...Barack Wear...people could gather teams and Montrose is a great place hang out and eat dinner after.

3) Bar-ack hopping...on the night on the town for fun conversation and meeting future Obama voters...I don't know how to raise $ with that but raising name recognition and finding others to participate with us would be fun.

4) Maybe we can compete against other CDs that are Fired UP! Friendly competition to raise funds and show our Obama spirit!

5) Walk for Barack...get pledges for a 3K from some cool place to another cool place in LA or Pasadena???

Any thoughts???

Earlier this morning, we asked what you are doing to help Barack Get-Out-the-Vote in your community today and more than a few of you replied.

LangstonHughesFan is calling fellow Kansans to help get folks out to the Sunflower State caucuses later this eveing (doors open @ 6:00 PM CST). She says that, even though most of the people she's talked to know where they're caucusing, the calls are important.

It's a new process for most people, since KS has never been "in play" before... But people are fired up! I talked to one older woman who said she couldn't wait to show up "with bells on" even though we've got very crummy weather today... the ground team in KS is working very hard to deliver to Barack his mother's home state!!!

Meanwhile, in Minneosota, Jane is using some of her time between now and tonight's caucus (doors open in MN @ 6:30 PM CST) to reach out to folks -- using our online calling tool -- voting across the country in New York. Earlier this morning, she:

...spoke with a Barack voter who is in Syracuse. She wants to vote but it's slippery out and she doesn't have a ride. The campaign is getting her to the polls today! If everybody makes 20 calls to voters in these crucial states, we can make a difference.

For Emily in Texas, even though she's not voting until March 4, today is still pretty special. While she's the only Democrat in her family, her whole Republican family in New York cast their vote for Barack this morning.

...I am SO proud...This was a huge step for my mother....who didn't even know she could vote for a Democrat being a registered Republican!

Over in California, Angela in Hawthorne, who is getting ready to go out and knock on doors for Barack in Los Angeles, had an emotinal experience earlier today when she realized she finally had her chance to cast her vote for Barack.

...this campaign has restored my faith in my country. I have volunteered here in California and Nevada and I have met the most AWESOME people ever, from all walks of life, ages, races... As an African American/Puerto Rican mixed child...I experience a lot of racism, a lot of bullying, a lot of grief. Finally, I can say to my sons (I HAVE 5) and my daughter (only 1) that they can really be whatever they want, even the President of the United States.

Isn't it incredible what a movement like this is capable of?

People have heard the "Change" message enough to get that that's what he's about. Now, they are LOOKING FOR SUBSTANCE, as in HOW HE WILL DELIVER THIS CHANGE! Until he starts getting into those details with the media, we have to start spreading that information ourselves to potential supporters through our conversations.

We must represent our candidate as powerfully and as cleary as possible. Of course, after we regail potential supporters with a few key talking points about Sen. Barack based in substance, we can direct them to the ISSUES link for more detailed information. We must deliver an impressive amount of meat though before we send them off to cyberspace. Hopefully we can leave them with enough information that they feel fairly satiated by our sharing. :-)

Obama supporters gather in Sarasota

MANATEE COUNTY - Here on the Suncoast one candidate inspired an unusual gathering Tuesday night. About 40 supporters of Barack Obama got together at a Manatee County restaurant and bar to watch the results of the New Hampshire primary come in.

According to the last numbers from the Federal Election Commission, Barack Obama has raised more money in Sarasota and Manatee Counties than any other candidate. And that's both Democrat or Republican.

You could hear the group cheering from across the parking lot. They had the energy of college football fans. They stared up at the TV, and some even had a beer.

But this was a party to watch the results of the New Hampshire primary. The crowd was all cheering for the same candidate - Barack Obama. Supporter Frank Lupa told us, "I think he's going to win, and I think we need change and he represents real authentic change."

Supporter Michelle Mastropietro told us, "In all my years, I've never gone to anything political and I was just so inspired when I heard him speak."

The party was organized by Sarasota-Manatee for Barack Obama. It's an independent grassroots organization. Kevin Florida is the chairman and the event coordinator of this. He told us, "We believe in Barack Obama so much, we feel he can hear our support all the way in New Hampshire."

People here were both young and old, black and white, men and women. In fact, some polls show more female voters are now supporting Barack Obama than Hillary Clinton. One female voter told us, "I don't support her because of how she accepted what her husband did to her."

Obviously, not everyone agrees. Clinton was leading early in the polls, and she kept her lead in the end. Those at the Obama party though said the New Hampshire primary certainly isn't the same as the fourth quarter of a big game. Kevin Florida said, "We're not nervous, not nervous at all. This is an election. Anything can happen."

Tom Webber with the Sarasota County Democrat Party was there Tuesday night. He told us he's never seen as many registered Republicans switch parties as this year. He believes that is because of Barack Obama.

As far as Obama not winning in New Hampshire, people here were disappointed, but not deflated.

I tell ypu what? the Obama momentum is building rapidly, as many voters are making up their mind. Still, we had to be patient with those who want their right to choice be respected, which is they don't "disclose" their position until the caucus day (January 8th)but tell you they are LEANING towards Barack Obama.

We had a lot of good feedbacks about Barack...People who really believe he is the "needed" candidate fot change now.

I sent one of my best friends the text of the letter I wrote for an Iowa Precinct Captain or Volunteer thanking them for their work on behalf of Barack's campaign. Here was his response:

"The letter sounds great, man -- some of the very same reasons I am such an avid fan of Obama. His no-bull-sh!t thoughts on a range of topics are inspirational. He's had the courage to tell potential voters not what they want to hear, but what they have to hear. That's a breath of fresh air that this country desperately needs. I was there at 6am holding the best location for our Campaign.

Darrell Hyde was our best cheerleader !

I was out there with him but he had the chants !

The hillary campaign again broke the rules with giant signs and bull horns but were down the street. The politico interviewed me after i went down the street to confront the man with the bullhorn.

I made sure edwards people and gravel people were next to us with Biden on the other side to keep us from getting infected.

We had the hope sign posted exactly across the street from the front door of the debates above my 3 ft by 8 ft banner i bought back on march. The round signs laminated which were under the OBAMA08 signs on sticks looked great :)

We had two banners + 60 OBAMA08 signs on the guard rails.

Lastly ACT UP CAME MARCHING IN WITH AT LEAST 500 PEOPLE WITH SIGNS SHOWING THE EVIL HILLARY CLINTON'S HEALTH PLAN

It was great because hillay did have the outgoing crooked mayor streets gang helping her as she would have never had enough supporters without them.

The confrontation between the true people of color and many races of ACT UP versus the "paid" hillary clinton was so great.

The Hillary people looked so depressed when the 4 times amount of ANTI HILLARY SUPPORTERS OF ACT UP CAM MARCHING IN.
They had drums and burning sticks and mask and signs making Hillary look like the eveil woman she is. It was so great. ACT UP was a powerful force.

Obama supporters also chanted with JENA 6 SUPPORTERS TO HELP BRING ABOUT CHANGE FOR THE JENA 6 !

It's late, but I couldn't wait to give you all a brief account of the scene outside of the building at Drexel University where the Democratic Debate was held this evening. We arrived about 6 pm to find a large group of Obama supporters well equipped with signs, and banners, and even meatball sandwiches. Thanks to Daneille, our group of about 100 was positioned directly across from the main entrance to the building. I met supporters from Baltimore, Reading, and Philadelphia. There were lots of reporters, and cameras catching our chants of "1,2,3,4, let Obama end the war, 5,6,7,8, we want Obama in 08". A small group of Edwards supporters just down the street from us got a special treat when their candidate arrived got out and shook some hands. He was the only candidate that entered thru this main entrance, although everyone was hoping for a glimpse of some of the others, especially Obama. At one point, a small group of people including one person with a megaphone, (which is not supposed to be allowed), stood in front of the Hillary supporters, and gave a short speech. Whoever it was, the reporters seemed to think it was somebody important because they all came running(someone said it was Senator Lautenberg). It was disheartening to see that the Hillary supporters felt they didn't have to follow the same rules as everyone else, but it also made me proud to be an Obama supporter.After chanting and cheering and waving signs for 3 hours, we headed home to watch the debate on TV. (Only people affliated with Drexel could go to the debate, and there was a lottery to determine who got tickets). And that was actually the best part of the night because after watching it, I was again reminded why I was willing to be tired, hoarse, and also have a headlight missing from my car when I returned to the parking lot. Because of Barack Obama! And as an added bonus, the MSNBC poll which asked who won the debate came in at Obama 29%!!!!!Hillary 21% and ....I also took lots of pictures which I hope to post tomorrow if I can figure out how.Fired Up! PS: I had twice the space reserved but i did SHARE IT WITH EDWARDS SUPPORTERS AND GRAVEL SUPPORTERS AND THE ANTI PHILLY CASINO PEOPLE.

I felt it was best to make sure hillary people were wayyyyy down the street and i also felt its best to help Edwards people who will join us when Barack wins in Iowa.

The biden people had a large contingent and with the edwards people and Obama people we all united in a ***STOP THE WAR CHANT***

That was great and sent a great message to the debates and those viewing our rally.

For a time we had half our people over with tim russert holding signs and chanting etc and so our group was doing two major actions.

The hillary people tried to get their signs in front and center but there was no room for them so it was great i made sure to save these spaces for the other candidates supporters.

The biden people came 2nd about 11am and one edwards supporter from NC held the edwards space from 12 noon on and then gravels people came and i spilt the edwards space so gravel had a space.
The hillary people came with giant 2x4's and built giant stands they laid against the wall to hold their ILLEGAL signs up high but then i used a bicycle rack turned up like a ladder to climb and hang my giant 3 ft by 8ft banner on the wall and then i had to stand on my tippy toes on top rung of the ladder / rack to hang the HOPE SIGN the highest right across the street from the debate front doors and it was 4 ft higher than any other sign.

anyway we have to do what we can but we have to be legal and not stoop the the level of the low life clinton people who later moved their large signs to the racks / line. however, they were wayyyyyyyy down the street which was so great.

make sure you camp out at the nevada location and be ready to get the good exposure location.

Coming Together Throughout New Hampshire

Perhaps the better question is, “Where wasn’t the Obama campaign in New Hampshire this weekend?”

In nearly 50 towns throughout the state, Granite Staters who were tired of being failed by our broken system in Washington came together to meet with staff and map out our path to a primary victory in New Hampshire. From Hampton Falls to Enfield, from Winchester to Conway and from Alexandria to Madbury, Democrats, Independents, and even some Republicans who had changed their affiliation to vote for Barack pledged to do their part.

In town after town, we worked backwards from Election Day, detailing what progress would look like every step of the way. On large calendars, individuals made hard commitments towards what they believe they can achieve working in their own communities.

Lee, an Amherst resident, volunteered to coordinate house meetings in her area, anxious to do her part in building a grassroots movement in the state.

The enthusiasm of Barack’s supporters is infectious. Barack often cites the “Fired up! Ready to go!” chant of Edith Childs, a city councilwoman in Greenville, SC, as proof that a single voice can change a room. With the heart and determination our volunteers have shown time and again, offering their time and their labor to put our nation on a better path, we’re well on our way to changing the state and, with it, our country.

The Ohio Kick Off Was A Success!

Today's Kick Off Event in Columbus was a success. There was a standing room only crowd at the Columbus Convention Center. The crowd was a mixture of people from all walks of life. We were all there to see and listen to Senator Barack Obama address his supporter's.

It was exciting to see families coming into the room, along with older adults and young ones too.

I had the opportunity to speak to some older people prior to the start of the event. They were sitting in the hallway watching a group of students from OSU who were having a mini Obama Pep Rally. The students were really having a good time cheering out loud O-B-A-M-A! I watched the elders looking at them. They were all smiling a nodding apprecatively at their youthful glee. The gentleman looked at me and said, "Look young lady, that is the future of America and Obama is bringing them together." It was obvious that he was proud of Obama's accomplishment. The other two women who was with him nodded in agreement. We all know that this is a moment of history to relish as we watched the crowd grow in numbers. Each one of us had to acknowledge that this was a great moment to be a part of. As people of African American decent, seeing people from all walks of life gathering to support Obama was a special moment. A signal that in spite of all that has happened and continues to happen that is not positive in our society. This young man has still managed to surpass the barriers and touch lives.

Being a volunteer does have perks! I was able to sit and listen to Barack speak to a luncheon crowd. Members of the group asked questions and he answered them. I was able to hear what his positions are on Iraq, domestic policy, public transportation, energy, and health care. I am glad to hear that Obama is promoting a life style change as part of the national healthcare plan. Obama's answers were thoughtful, detailed, and honest. He openly stated that everything cannot be solved at once. I am glad that he made that point. There is so much in need of attention and repair. It cannot all be done at once. Nor can he do the solving by himself.

Students at Claflin University, a historically black college in Orangeburg, S.C., are accusing the school's administration of prohibiting them from forming a "Students for Barack Obama" chapter, yet simultaneously compelling them to attend a press conference supporting his chief rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, Sen. Hillary Clinton.In fact, several students who serve as volunteers on Obama's presidential campaign tell FITSNews that they were coerced into holding Clinton signs and standing behind State Sen. John Matthews, who unveiled Clinton's higher education plan at a press conference held at the school last week.
About three weeks ago, an honors student at Claflin University says she approached the administration about establishing a Students for Barack Obama chapter at the school. The student was told that she and fellow students could not form such a group on campus, but no reason was given for the school's decision.

He helped Hillary Clinton raise a stunning amount of money in the third quarter. Can he make sure she carries the Iowa caucus? He’s giving it a shot, one small cluster at a time.

Oct. 5, 2007 - The scene did not exactly reek of triumph. Just two dozen supporters had gathered at the union hall perched between a welding company and a gas station in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The room was two-thirds empty, the sign-up sheets on the walls blank. But that did not deter Terry McAuliffe, the hyperkinetic chairman of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, as he tucked into his speech at the seventh event of his long day. “The campaign is on fire. We’re doing great,” McAuliffe told the room.

McAuliffe can be forgiven his congenital enthusiasm. He had just helped Clinton post impressive third-quarter fund-raising numbers—outpacing her nearest rival, Sen. Barack Obama, in total dollar amount as well as the tally of new donors added to the rolls. A campaign that had already been taking on the aura of inevitability suddenly surged forward anew—as reflected in a fresh round of polls showing an ever-growing gap between Clinton and the competition.

But McAuliffe wasn’t resting on his laurels. “What happens in your state here is going to be a huge determinant of who the Democratic nominee for president is,” he said. “Don’t believe the polls. Four of the last six polls have put Hillary in the lead here. But we’re not in first place. We’re bunched up in a three-way tie … We’ve got to run like we’re 20 points behind.”

McAuliffe’s pitch is a sign of both the strength and the weakness of the Clinton campaign in Iowa.

Taking nothing for granted, the Clinton juggernaut dispatches a key lieutenant to canvas Iowa in a blue Chevy Cobalt, meeting small clumps of supporters other campaigns might view as hardly worth a major fund-raiser’s time. (McAuliffe says he extends his audience by making hundreds of calls to voters during his travel time.)

But despite the Clinton camp’s manifest advantages, they need McAuliffe on that road. The New York senator’s position in Iowa is much weaker than any other early voting state. While she may have opened up a daunting lead in national polls—33 points, according to the latest Washington Post/ABC News poll—she’s neck-and-neck with Obama and former senator John Edwards in the Hawkeye State. A defeat in the first-in-the-nation caucus could imperil her lead in other early states, if the pattern of previous elections is repeated. And an early loss would raise serious questions about her campaign’s biggest selling point: that she is strongest, most electable candidate in the field.

Even Clinton’s supporters in Iowa are nervous. Wally Horn, an Iowa state senator from Cedar Rapids, introduced McAuliffe at the union hall Wednesday evening. Horn, who has spent 35 years in the legislature, signed up with the campaign after persistent pressure from the candidate’s husband during the Clintons’ first campaign swing together in early July.

“He asked me three times in 15 minutes,” Horn said, recalling that Clinton had visited him as a sitting president in 1994. Clinton’s finger-wagging message for Horn was simple: “I want you to be for Hillary.” But Horn sounds more supportive of Bill than of Hillary. “You know when he walks in the room; you don’t need to look around, you just know he’s there,” he said. “What’s so sad, for me anyway, is he tries to hide it now because of Hillary. He can explode a room, but he has to keep low and small.”

Horn says he’s convinced that Hillary is ready to be president. He just isn’t sure that Iowans can be trusted to vote for her, even when they say they like her. “I was a [Dick] Gephardt supporter before, but people didn’t show up at the precinct caucus,” he said, referring to the former House Democratic leader from Missouri in the 2004 caucuses. “In Iowa, people are so nice they’ll tell you they support you, but then they don’t show up.

“This is what concerns me about Hillary. You almost know it’s a natural for people to get out for Obama to the precinct caucus. But Hillary is going to have to get her people there, and it’s not a natural.”

Horn’s views are supported by the recent NEWSWEEK Poll, which showed a big gap between support among registered Democrats and likely caucus-goers. Among all Democrats in Iowa, Clinton enjoys a 6-point lead over Obama. But among people likely to vote, Obama is leading by 4 points. That 10-point spread suggests that Obama holds an early advantage in organization and enthusiasm.

Over the next three months, much can change in Iowa; many caucus-goers typically make up their minds in the last month of campaigning. At this stage of the campaign four years ago, John Kerry was universally written off as dead in spite of his early front-runner status and his strong performance in the TV debates.

Clinton might yet pull away decisively from her rivals in Iowa. Or she may suffer a Dean-like crash. But for the Clinton campaign, the lack of obvious enthusiasm for the candidate is troubling. At the union hall in Cedar Rapids, only two members of the audience expressed a strong bond with the senator. One was an Arkansas transplant; the other had recently hosted a house party for the candidate.

But if that bothered McAuliffe, he didn’t show it as he primed the small crowd for a campaign swing by Clinton herself early next week. In his mind, Hillary is the only candidate who can defeat Republican Rudy Giuliani in states like California and New York. And only Clinton could lead the Democrats to a historic victory.

One supporter piped up asking for advice on how to answer a nagging question: why perpetuate the Clinton-Bush dynastic hold on the White House?

“I understand since 1980 there has been a Bush or Clinton on the ticket,” said McAuliffe, “and I understand that people raise that issue. People like something new. But with the unique circumstances we have in the world, experience has to trump everything else.

“You’ll always have candidates that come up as an alternative to what people view as the inside. But what is very unique now is it’s obviously war in Iraq. It’s Iran, it’s Afghanistan. You have Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar; all these countries have issues today. It’s about to explode in the Middle East! I just pray we can keep everything together until we can get a new president in office. I like new things, too. But when you’re in a difficult situation, I’ve got to go with someone who can do the job tomorrow. There’s no on-the-job training for Hillary.”

If that apocalyptic argument didn't drive Iowans to caucus, McAuliffe had one last plea.

“In three months, we can change the course of the world,” he said. “I’m asking you, can you give us an hour a day, two hours a day? In three months, this thing could be over, and if we don’t do it, we’re not going to win. We have got to fire people up.”

"In 3rd quarter of 2007, I had high expectations on Barack Obama fundraising machine. But I admit that recent news of HRC making history for the very first time in the history of fundraising, nocked my enthusiasm a little - In 3rd quarter, Obama raised 20 millions and HRC raised 27 millions. Then…came the Post/ABC poll: All told, 53 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents in the poll support Mrs. Clinton, 20 percent Mr. Obama and 13 percent former Senator John Edwards. A 12-point increase for Mrs. Clinton since the last ABC/Post poll a month ago, and a seven-point drop for Mr. Obama. All the remaining Democratic candidates polled in the low single digits.

The pundits called it the Hillary surprise! As usual, they went on and on and on….etc. God I needed to a break from the main stream media! So I decided to go out fishing last weekend.

On my way back, couple feet from my house, I met 3 good “Samaritans”. 2 older ladies in their 70s and 1 older man… They’ve introduced themselves as democrats and were walking door-to-door to register people in my community, all this for the upcoming election.We mingled a bit and I told them how personal this election as become. This upcoming election has changed me already I said.

I expressed my disappointment and my hopelessness about the prospect to elect Obama as president. I am not sure whether they were routing for Hillary or Obama, or someone else, but the Obama 08 sticker on my car caught their attention.I proceeded to comment on the Obama sticker. I talked to them about Obama: Obama the Christian and family man; Obama the community organizer; Obama the politician; Obama and the world as he sees it….etc.And the more I talked about Obama, hope and the future; I got caught up in the bubble of possibilities ahead. One thing I like about older people is their patience. Patience to listen and feel the answer…As I was “bragging” about the “Obama movement”, they waited and listened patiently with a smile…yes, the smile that kept me going on and on like a typical pundit. After all, my selfishness attitude reminded me that it was Sunday and they are retirees anyway, so what’s the hang up? I continue to run my mouth and talked some more...I am not too sure whether they were captivated about my knowledge about politics, or my accent, but one thing I know for sure is that they listened with a smile that says…”interesting”.

“Sounds like you got your groove back”…yelled the older man…so funny the way he said it, we laughed…During the conversation, one of the older ladies exhorted me few times to never give in... Never, never, never, never…in nothing great or small, large or petty; Never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense; To never yield to force…Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the "enemy".

Though I recognize that Hillary and other presidential candidates are not the “enemy”, but Obama’s opponents, I submit that the older lady is absolutely right…we should be grateful to have raised 20 Millions…after all, we have nothing to prove. Obama has demonstrated to the cynics and to the world that he can raise money.

This morning I woke with a love of this “game”. I am starting to love the competitive forces in politics. What will keep this “game” interesting is the spirit to strive for the best to be ahead. Nobody has voted yet….millions of Americans are still undecided…we have 3 more months to go….we may be disappointed now but we are doomed if we don't keep our head up high and continue to try. We should not be discouraged by “failure”, after all, there is no failure anyway, and if there was, we always pass failure on the way to success...

I reminded myself that if we want Obama as our next president, we have to require more of ourselves to help him. He cannot do this alone. Though Obama may not show it, he’s just a human being…just like us; he needs a soft place to fall…he needs words of encouragement because a strong man needs a shoulder to lean on sometimes. I command my fellow Obama supporters out there to be strong and have courage, give courage to the timid, remind the indifferent, and warn the opposed.

I am old enough to know that victory is often a thing deferred, and rarely at a summit of courage - what is the summit of courage, I think, is freedom. The freedom that comes with the knowledge that no earthly think such as the polls or money can break you.

George Bernard once said, “The only service a friend can really render is to keep your courage by holding up to your mirror in which you can see a noble image of yourself”Obama’s shoulder is our determination to continue this battle.

Let us go guys…Let us go the other side! Let’s remind ourselves that inaction breeds doubt and fear. But action breeds confidence and courage. If we want Obama to win this race, and if we want to conquer fear, then we should not sit at home and think about it. Let us go out and get busy, because we have more work to do. We cannot turn back.Obama reminds us that “It’s not enough just us to look back and wonder at how far we have come. I want us to look ahead with a fierce urgency at how far we have left to go”.

We have more work to do folks. We have more work to do if we want to get this man, Barack Obama, elected as president of the United States. Yesterday is but a dream, tomorrow but a vision, but today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness, and every tomorrow a vision of hope…

…A hope to see every American with healthcare insurance;

…A hope to see Black, White, Indian, Latino, and Asian come together and sit at a table of brotherhood to solve the problems of this century…

So look well, therefore, to this day…

Obama called on us to hope. He said, “It will take a movement to finish what began in Topeka, Kan. and Little Rock, Ark. A movement of every American from every city and town, of every race and every background to stand up and say that no matter what you look like, or where you come from, every child in America should have the opportunity to receive the best education this country has to offer,”. Obama urges us “to think about how far we have come and where we need to go … the risks we will take and the role we will play in building the movement that will get us there.

Dr. King once said: Let us not wallow in the valley of despair. And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal." I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood…

He went on to say,

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight; "and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together."² This is our hope, and this is the faith that I go back to the South with.With this faith, we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith, we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith, we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together….

…And this will be the day -- this will be the day when all of God's children will be able to sing with new meaning. And if America is to be a great nation, this must become true. And so…..

Newark [DE] Community Day (Organizing)The area's premier fall festival is an exciting event, which features fun for the entire family. It provides an outdoor venue (2 stages) for musicians and demonstration groups. Fine Art and Homemade Craft vendors will display and sell their creations. Antique autos will be at the Newark Shopping Center. A food court will have a variety of foods. Restaurants on Main Street will be open for regular food. Event is also to welcome students back to the University of Delaware.

We plan to have a booth with a table and Obama supplies. Stop in for a free bumper sticker if you volunteer.

Booth needs to be staffed from 10 am to 5 pm. Please volunteer for a specific hour or more.

The Rebirth of Optimism

At a recent brunch with friends, a very wise law professor at the table wondered about the fervor of Senator Obama's supporters. Why did they, unlike the supporters of other candidates, think and speak of their candidate in such personal terms?

The "Obamania" phenomenon written about and reported earlier this year had not fizzled out as predicated by the pundits. Instead, support for Senator Obama increased across the country, establishing ever deeper and more secure foundations as America heard more from the Senator in speeches, debates, forums and rallies, and especially as they heard from his wife, Michelle Obama.

What was even more remarkable, the law professor noted, was that all this was happening in a country where people prided themselves in being especially skeptical of anything that looked too good to be true. So why was it that this picture perfect family with their eloquence, candor, and passion, was being embraced by Americans from all walks of life - many of whom were venturing beyond the boundaries of their political, religious and social ideologies to enter an undiscovered country of possibility?

Why indeed?

Someone at the table suggested that it was because Senator Obama somehow made it safe for idealists to come out of the woodwork. It was no longer shameful or dangerous to dream out loud of a better world.

Someone else responded that if Senator Obama's supporters were idealists, then there would be little chance of their vision of this better world becoming a reality. They could attend all the rallies they wanted and contribute however much they could, but in the end, pragmatism would win the day. We only had to look to History to see how little Fate favored the idealist.

Finally I heard an answer that made a great deal of sense in that it managed to account for the personal fervor of Senator Obama's supporters while also recognizing that Senator Obama was himself a pragmatic problem solver: Barack Obama, it seems, has catalyzed the rebirth of optimism in a country that has suffered repeated and unmitigated blows to it's "can-do" sensibility.

The shock of September 11 and the international quagmire that came in its wake; the inexorable power of Katrina which drowned a city and carried away the rug under which deeply rooted domestic ills had been systematically swept; these compounded by innumerable other disasters, small and large, left the nation reeling and grieving, then angry and frustrated, and finally exhausted in body and soul, resigned to simply bearing the unrelenting assaults with some measure of grace. All but lost were any expectation of dignity. Even Hope and Faith began to seem like derogatory terms.

When Senator Obama spoke in the summer of 2004 at the Democratic National Convention and described a "United States of America" where it was in fact true that all were created equal, he lighted a beacon at the shore of a troubled sea and all who saw it were amazed. It became increasingly clear that he was not speaking of an abstract utopia, a platonic ideal that could only be crudely imitated by mere mortals, but rather of a possible world that, with time and effort, had grown increasingly probable, and in spite of naysayers, could be made a reality for all. He presented himself as the living embodiment of the American Dream and as we looked then, and in the following years, and especially in the last few months, we did find the truths that he spoke to be self evident.

But the promise of the American Dream to ensure its citizens their natural rights to "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" also recognizes that people sometimes would rather bear those ills they have than challenge and change the broken system that creates and exacerbates their suffering. As the nation's founders wrote,

all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.

Barack Obama has the courage to stand before his fellow countrymen and invite them to look candidly at the failures of politics as usual. With his words and, more importantly, his deeds he has rekindled their thwarted hopes, challenging them to turn the page and write a new chapter of the American Story. His voice resonates with the same notes of optimism with which the nation's founders imbued their Declaration of Independence.

This optimism reborn and thriving in the plain light of day, is what we see and hear when we listen to Senator Obama's supporters. And just as the optimism of the newly formed republic fueled the vigorous growth of a nation which, when it is at its best, is truly a sight to see, the beacon Senator Obama first held aloft from the podium of the Democratic National Convention in 2004 lighted the way to a renewed sense of agency for a nation of optimists, by optimists and for optimists.
