URGENT: Check Your Voter Registration

Even though I have been registered to vote, and have voted in *every* general election since I turned 18 (I'm in my 40's now) I decided on a whim to test the "Vote for Change" web site tool and see if it showed my registration. It didn’t. So I went to the Ventura County, California registrar’s web site and used their online tool. It also showed that I am *not* registered to vote. Somehow I have mysteriously dropped off the registrars list as being a registered voter. So I had a few friends who know they are registered voters check their registration status as well, though most appeared as registered, there were several who did NOT. They too had been mysteriously removed from the registrar and were no longer listed as registered voters. Had I not done this, myself and my friends would have shown up at the polls on November 4th and been turned away.

I encourage EVERYONE to check their voter registration status IMMEDIATELY.

Do a Google search on: how can I find out if I am registered to vote in [insert your state here]

Or go to:

National:

http://www.voteforchange.com

California voters go here for your county:

http://www.calvoter.org/voter/government/ceo.html

Julia.

My Family

I am proud to say i got all 5 members of my family, my parents and three sisters to vote for Obama in november. Previously my sister has only voted once and that was in the 04 election to help support kerry. No one in my family desired to vote this year so I talked them all into voting for Obama, even though we live in NY where Obama is already pretty much guaranteed to win this state. And one of my sister told me that she talked a bunch of her friends into voting for the first time so they are going to be registering soon and supporting Obama.

Volunteering

Yesterday I volunteered on the upper west side with two groups Broadway for Obama and Three Trees Democrats. It was an eye opening experience. Even in our city on the upper west side we found alot of people were not registered to vote or needed to chage their address or needed an absentee ballot. In the 4 hours I was there, we signed up dozens of people including just turned 18 year olds. I even met a little girl maybe 10 years old who bought a button to wear proudly. Her Mom was already teaching her how important it was to vote!!! Three cheers! I ran into a friend and she said "Aren't you preaching to the choir up here?" I said, "well in a away but you would be surprised how many people are not registered to vote!!" Also people took absentee ballots for their out of the country family members. I talked to Hillary supporters who were disappointed but were still voting for Obama. I explained to them why I had supported Obama from the beginning. It was a very nice exchange and it helped to understand where they were coming from. Even a man passing by talked to me about it. We had a nice exchange as well. The more people who get excited about Barack the better. This is the first time in my life I have ever been excited by a Political figure. Barack is special and his ideas are spreading and it's like an infectious laughter.

If you have even a couple of hours to spare, volunteer. Especially my actor/dancer/model friends, your outgoing nature will be an asset.

Please join my group Performing Artists For Obama. Lets create something with flair and get the word out!

Voter Registration Issue

I'm not sure where to post this, but am doing so here.

My husband and I attended a voter registration event in June in the Target store parking lot near Mid Rivers Mall (St. Peters, MO). We both registered to vote that day along with several other people who were there at the same time. I haven't received my voter registration card, so I went to the state site to make sure we were registered to vote. NEITHER ONE OF US ARE.

I do not know if this is simply a mix up or if possibly they were Republicans posing as Obama supporters, but am encouraging anyone who registered to vote at this same time to make sure they are actually in the 'system' to do so. I would hate for people to go to vote on November 4th and discover that they are not allowed to do so. The cut off date is October 8th. I am glad we discovered this error in plenty of time to do something about it.

The time is NOW!

We have less than 60 days until Election day.

More importantly, we have less than 35 days to register people to vote!

I did not know during the primaries that when I moved, I would have to re-register. I had to fly to Los Angeles from San Francisco on Super Tuesday to vote for Barack Obama! My friend drove 45 minutes to her polling place from work, only to find out that she had been removed from the voter list because she didn't vote in the last election! WE CANNOT LET THIS KIND OF THING HAPPEN, NOT THIS YEAR!!!

I have created a .jpg image of some of the key swing states that we need (Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, etc.) with the deadlines for each for registering to vote. It's called REGISTER.jpg

Please download it ( http://www.pennaomega.com/obama ) and send it to EVERYONE you know, not only in those states, but to everyone... and ask them to send it on to all their friends and family who are supporting Obama/Biden who may not know if they are registered or not.

If you have any questions about the image or want me to make one for one specific state not shown, please post here and I will answer any questions and make one for you!

Penna

P.S.
Columbus Volunteers' Success at the Arts Festival

On Saturday and Sunday at the Columbus, Ohio Arts Festival, a group of Obama volunteers braved the blistering heat and winds to register 187 voters at a tabling event. Between the enthusiastic volunteers and a life-sized Obama cardboard figure, they also signed up 96 festival goers to work with neighborhood teams and do a host of other jobs needed by the campaign staff. Most had never worked for a campaign before. A group of Chicago artists approached the table and described how surprised they were to see so many people in the middle of Ohio sporting the more than 500 Obama pins that were distributed. Not one McCain pin was in sight for the entire two days of the festival!

Our first ex-Hillary supporter manned the table for a few hours and was especially effective in talking to other new Obama supporters. Some of these potential new voters are still watching and reading and thinking, while others expressed the desire to start working for a Democratic victory in November by getting an Obama bumper sticker to put over those of other candidates they had previously supported. Throughout the two-day festival, Obama supporters walked over to the table just to thank the tabling volunteers for caring enough to give their time. We all were reminded about why we are working so hard to support Obama when one volunteer described how the neighbors had pitched in to buy decent body armor for a neighbor in Iraq. When the government wouldn’t pay to fly this soldier home on leave after a long tour of duty, once again each neighbor pitched in $150.00 so he could finally visit his wife and kids.

Obama supporters walking through the festival told us that they heard more than one person asking friends, “Have you had your photo taken with Obama yet?” With the volunteer spirit we saw this weekend, Obama pins, registration, and volunteer recruitment will energize people at Ohio festivals throughout the state this summer and fall. Through volunteer efforts like this one, come November, Ohio will be one important swing state in the “blue” column.

NO VOTE, NO VOICE

HAVEN'T YOU NOTICED HOW LOUD PEOPLE CAN GET AT PEP RALLIES AT A CERTAIN EVENT, WHETHER IT BE FOR A PARTICULAR SPORT FOR ONE OUR CHILDREN, FAMILY OR FRIENDS PLAYS OR WHATEVER THE ACTIVITY. 100% OF THE TIME THEY LET SOMEBODY KNOW WHO THEY ARE CHEERING FOR IN SOME FORM OR FASHION WITH SAME COLORED T-SHIRTS, FACE PAINT, TEAM MASCOTS. BUT THE MOST HIGHLY FAVORED WAY OF LETTING SOMEONE KNOW WHO YOU ARE WANTING TO WIN IS BY SHOUTING THEIR NAME OR SCREAMING AT THE TOP OF THEIR LUNGS. SOMETIMES THE PERSON OR TEAM WINS. BUT REALLY IT WASN'T BECAUSE YOU WERE SCREAMING, IT'S BECAUSE THAT PERSON OR TEAM PLAYED THEIR HEARTS OUT. WELL. THIS PRESIDENTIAL RACE CAN BE WON BY NOT SCREAMING OR SHOUTING OBAMA!! OBAMA!! BUT BY SIMPLY REGISTERING TO VOTE, THEN... WHEN IT'S TIME TO VOTE, GO TO THE POLLS.. SHOW YOUR IDENTIFICATION TAKE PEN AND BALLOT IN HAND VERY QUIETLY GO TO A DESIGNATED PRIVATE BOOTH AND MARK THE SLOT FOR OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 2008. STOP BY YOUR FAVORITE RESTAURANT ( MINE IS JAYS) PICK YOU UP A SNACK BOX DRIVE HOME . THEN IF YOU FEEL LIKE IT YOU CAN WATCH THE RESULTS ON TV OR WATCH YOUR FAVORITE DVD MOVIE(MINE IS TYLER PERRY) GO TO BED. AFTER ALL THAT WAKE UP THE NEXT MORNING AND WATCH HOW YOUR VOTE GOT COUNTED WITHOUT YOU SCREAMING; FOR THAT MATTER NOT EVEN TALKING AT ALL. THE RESULTS ARE IN. " LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, AMERICA HAS HEARD YOU CRY OUT VERY SILENTLY, BY VOTING IN A NEW PRESIDENT!! PRESIDENT OBAMA" DOESN'T THAT SOUND GOOD TO OUR EARS. LET'S MAKE IT HAPPEN IN NOVEMBER 2008. WE CAN BELIEVE AND WE WILL ACHIEVE IT!! MRS.

Below is an email message that I sent to my family and friends. I encourage everyone to send out a similar message. The message did not center on my support for Senator Obama but on the importance of being registered to vote. I will send follow up messages reminding everyone to vote and also about my suport of Senator Obama. I believe that email is a definite way to contact potential supporters. I do not send random emails, therefore my messages are normally read and responded to. However, the important thing is not the method but the message.

Hello everyone,

This is a message from me to you this holiday season. There are so many things that have taken place this year and one of them has been the support of family and friends during my recent surgery. I want to begin by saying thank you for your love and support. I wish everyone a safe Christmas and Kwanza; and a very happy and successful New Year in 2008.

I do want to remind everyone that 2008 brings with it much responsiblity. The main one being the responsibility to vote in your states Primary elections. It is so easy to take for granted the right to vote. But remember that those who came before us faught and died for the freedoms that we often don't enlist. The South Carolina Democratic Primary is Saturday, January 26th and the Illinois Democratic Primary is Tuesday, Febrary 5th. It is IMPORTANT to note that the last day to register to vote in the South Carolina Democratic Primary is Wednesday, December 26th. So if you know of someone who is not registered help them get registered. It is easy for you to register on-line through the South Carolina Voting Commissions website, via telephone at 1-866-MYVOTE1, or going to your county courthouse for assistance. If you do not live in South Carolina or Illinois you can get information about the dates of your state's Democratic Primary by going to your state's website and searching for Election Commission.

This up coming Presidential election is so very important. I am not sending this message to push for any particular candidate. Everyone knows who I support and am actively campaigning for, so it is no need to push that agenda today. I just want to be certain that all my friends and family take the time and opportunity to vote.

Thank you,

Joyce M. Rose-Harris

Your Vote is Your Voice
