A Message from Dr. Paul in Oregon . . .

I have been communicating with a Doctor in Oregon who happens to be a member of the Physicians National Health Project. This national group of doctors and other medical professionals who strongly believe in the Single Payer program and have been pounding the sidewalks with unique and humorous protests rallies (to get the media attention) is a little bit different than your usual protesters.

The fact that doctors are taking the time to demonstrate is a new group that you don't think about when you call a rally. The presumption always was that they were too busy, the wouldn't "lower themselves" to public outcries and they made so money what did they have to protest about anyway. Well apparently, when it comes to healthcare, doctors are finding they are being hit with high insurance premiums, overhead running their offices, paper work which is staggering, protecting themselves from patients looking for a "deep pocket" and an excuse to sue (not that some doctors don't need a slap upside the head sometime for neglect) but are also having to juggle family life, mental days off, patient care (24 hours) and paying for school loans (like the rest of us). When you combine this with the overall economy having hit financial nest eggs, pensions, and retirement funds it isn't a wonder more people aren't in the street screaming. Meantime, we are all sitting and waiting to hear about the banks that were rescued with Obama's bailout, who other than Bank of America, you don't even see advertisements about "come on in" we got our act together now, "we are willing to share the wealth", being that you (the American taxpayer) saved our bacon! But you don't see this. So here is what my buddy Paul sent me on behalf of the Physicians in Oregon who do believe that Healthcare Reform really needs to be taken more seriously than the media would care to tell us. And I'd suggest writing him, he has an inexpensive video that would make you go "hugh, they are doing what?" . . . when you hear more about the history of healthcare in America and where all the thorny discussions are, that they didn't teach you in Social Studies (if you are over 45) or Health Science if you are under 40. Enjoy . . . and give me your opinion . . .

Mad As Hell Doctors

Who are we? We are members of Oregon PNHP who believe our health care system and political process are deeply flawed. They are both mostly about money and are not yielding results that are most beneficial to our communities. We expect those who agree with us to help us bring this message to those who haven’t yet figured this out. Doing so will require serious, national media attention.

What is our message?

· The Health Care Industry, through our corrupt political process, continues to manipulate our legislators to create public policy that values profits over public good. That’s what we are mad about!

· Unless we find immediate savings in our chaotic health care system (that is built around insurance companies and employers) and, then, focus on controlling costs, we will never be able to accomplish the moral imperative of true Universal Access without driving our government to insolvency.

· Accomplishing this will require a single risk pool, publicly financed, and administered by an independent, transparent, publicly accountable agency that is responsible for asking and answering the following question. How do “we” get the most health and the least suffering for the precious, limited resources, that we spend on health care?

Why a road trip? Getting the attention of those who aren’t already part of the choir requires that tap into their default “channels” of entertainment/information. By creating media events in communities across the country, we will infiltrate those “channels” long enough to deliver our very cogent message, believably delivered by articulate, sincere doctors who are committed to telling the truth.

What is our vision? We will tap into the growing anger that our legislators in Washington are being manipulated by campaign contributors. We will become the rallying cry for individuals and countless local/national groups who are fed up with status quo and “false-reform”. By virtue of our numbers and the inherent truth of our message, those same legislators will be given the courage to give us real reform that results in a sustainable Health Care System with real Universal Access.

What is the plan? Over the next few weeks, with our help, communities on our itinerary will prepare for and publicize our arrival. We will leave the Willamette Valley on September 8 in a painted motor home that will draw attention to us during meetings and rallies at which we will present our case. Documenting our progress with video uploads and daily conversations with National media, they will become increasingly interested in following us as we draw progressively larger crowds. When we penetrate The Beltway in the end of September, a caravan of cars will follow us to a public rally in which we will demand health care reform consistent with our message, stated above.

How will we accomplish this? We are currently involved in Stage One, in which we put up a substantial amount of our own money to hire Gary Jelinek (Dennis Kucinich’s 2004 Campaign Organizer) and Adam Klugman (a creative media consultant) to:

Develop our message and image;
Determine the itinerary that will yield the most media attention;
Find “ground support” in the communities we will visit;
Help those local contacts arrange a venue, publicize our arrival, and develop relationships with local media;
Schedule local/national radio/television presentations;
Assist us in raising the funds that will take us through Stage Two.

Stage Two is the trip. Successful fund raising is crucial to keeping Adam and Gary involved in the project, renting and “wrapping” a motor home, and traveling with a videographer who will document our progress, record peoples’ stories, and feed video clips to both the internet and national media on a daily basis. Subsequently, a video that captures the spirit of the trip will be produced.

Accountability to the Citizens of the United States of America for how the Stimulus funds are being spent.

The citizens of The United States of America wish to exercise their right to know how the people’s money is being spent. To this end, we request that strict detailed accounting measures be put in place so that we, as a nation, can track and account how the Trillions of the people’s money in the Stimulus Funds of 2008-2009 are being dispersed and ultimately spent. We wish to be able to track and account for the funds as it goes from the Federal Treasury to the States to the County level, to the city level and down through the “Not for Profit”, NGO, Contractor level. The detail of accounting information should include the prices for materials, wage\hour, fees, and be detailed enough to provide a complete break down on every project, how the recipients were chosen, complete access to board/committee correspondence and meeting notes in which the peoples business is being conducted, who had influence in the selection process and what prior business they have had with the granting agencies. This accounting information and grantee database information should be made available and stored in a standardized easily usable format so that any citizen could access and scrutinize the databases from any public library or home computer. I propose the setting up of citizen monitoring committees, which would be organized at the county level, with full access to the data. We Make Money the Old Fashion Way – We Earn It

Back in December when it was pretty assured in my mind that the economic crisis was here to stay; my first though was “businesses will have to find a new way to stay alive.” Sure enough some of the Fortune 500’s came across with different marketing strategies, in essence to down size their profit margins while appealing to an American public, which was suffering from the burdens of the crisis also.

Starbucks introduced lower prices on certain coffee drinks along with the introduction of its newest product offering “Instant Starbucks Coffee”; a great example of adapting to the burdening times. Others have done the same, Pizza Hut, McDonalds and many more established American businesses have remembered how to compete for our business.

So why haven’t the banks?

I’m not even going to attempt to get into “banks” are a primary cause of our troubles, but the upsetting part, for me, is they’re so arrogant about what’s going on in our beloved country and develop the stance “it’s just one of those things that sometimes happens.”

Presidential Inaugural Address Delivered by President Barack Obama on 20 Jan 2009

My fellow citizens -
I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors. I thank President Bush for his service to our nation, as well as the generosity and cooperation he has shown throughout this transition. Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath. The words have been spoken during rising tides of prosperity and the still waters of peace. Yet, every so often the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms. At these moments, America has carried on not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office, but because We the People have remained faithful to the ideals of our forbearers, and true to our founding documents. So it has been. So it must be with this generation of Americans.
That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. Homes have been lost; jobs shed; businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly; our schools fail too many; and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet.
These are the indicators of crisis, subject to data and statistics. Less measurable but no less profound is a sapping of confidence across our land - a nagging fear that America's decline is inevitable, and that the next generation must lower its sights.
Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America - they will be met.
On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord.
On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics.
We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.
In reaffirming the greatness of our nation, we understand that greatness is never a given. It must be earned. Our journey has never been one of short-cuts or settling for less. It has not been the path for the faint-hearted - for those who prefer leisure over work, or seek only the pleasures of riches and fame. Rather, it has been the risk-takers, the doers, the makers of things - some celebrated but more often men and women obscure in their labor, who have carried us up the long, rugged path towards prosperity and freedom.
For us, they packed up their few worldly possessions and traveled across oceans in search of a new life.
For us, they toiled in sweatshops and settled the West; endured the lash of the whip and plowed the hard earth.
For us, they fought and died, in places like Concord and Gettysburg; Normandy and Khe Sahn.
Time and again these men and women struggled and sacrificed and worked till their hands were raw so that we might live a better life. They saw America as bigger than the sum of our individual ambitions; greater than all the differences of birth or wealth or faction.
This is the journey we continue today. We remain the most prosperous, powerful nation on Earth. Our workers are no less productive than when this crisis began. Our minds are no less inventive, our goods and services no less needed than they were last week or last month or last year. Our capacity remains undiminished. But our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions - that time has surely passed. Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America.
For everywhere we look, there is work to be done. The state of the economy calls for action, bold and swift, and we will act - not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth. We will build the roads and bridges, the electric grids and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together. We will restore science to its rightful place, and wield technology's wonders to raise health care's quality and lower its cost. We will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars and run our factories. And we will transform our schools and colleges and universities to meet the demands of a new age. All this we can do. And all this we will do.
Now, there are some who question the scale of our ambitions - who suggest that our system cannot tolerate too many big plans. Their memories are short. For they have forgotten what this country has already done; what free men and women can achieve when imagination is joined to common purpose, and necessity to courage.
What the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them - that the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply. The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works - whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified. Where the answer is yes, we intend to move forward. Where the answer is no, programs will end. And those of us who manage the public's dollars will be held to account - to spend wisely, reform bad habits, and do our business in the light of day - because only then can we restore the vital trust between a people and their government.
Nor is the question before us whether the market is a force for good or ill. Its power to generate wealth and expand freedom is unmatched, but this crisis has reminded us that without a watchful eye, the market can spin out of control - and that a nation cannot prosper long when it favors only the prosperous. The success of our economy has always depended not just on the size of our Gross Domestic Product, but on the reach of our prosperity; on our ability to extend opportunity to every willing heart - not out of charity, but because it is the surest route to our common good.
As for our common defense, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals. Our Founding Fathers, faced with perils we can scarcely imagine, drafted a charter to assure the rule of law and the rights of man, a charter expanded by the blood of generations. Those ideals still light the world, and we will not give them up for expedience's sake. And so to all other peoples and governments who are watching today, from the grandest capitals to the small village where my father was born: know that America is a friend of each nation and every man, woman, and child who seeks a future of peace and dignity, and that we are ready to lead once more.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
We are the keepers of this legacy. Guided by these principles once more, we can meet those new threats that demand even greater effort - even greater cooperation and understanding between nations. We will begin to responsibly leave Iraq to its people, and forge a hard-earned peace in Afghanistan. With old friends and former foes, we will work tirelessly to lessen the nuclear threat, and roll back the specter of a warming planet. We will not apologize for our way of life, nor will we waver in its defense, and for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents, we say to you now that our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken; you cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you.
For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus - and non-believers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this Earth; and because we have tasted the bitter swill of civil war and segregation, and emerged from that dark chapter stronger and more united, we cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall someday pass; that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve; that as the world grows smaller, our common humanity shall reveal itself; and that America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace.
To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect. To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society's ills on the West - know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy. To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.
To the people of poor nations, we pledge to work alongside you to make your farms flourish and let clean waters flow; to nourish starved bodies and feed hungry minds. And to those nations like ours that enjoy relative plenty, we say we can no longer afford indifference to suffering outside our borders; nor can we consume the world's resources without regard to effect. For the world has changed, and we must change with it.
As we consider the road that unfolds before us, we remember with humble gratitude those brave Americans who, at this very hour, patrol far-off deserts and distant mountains. They have something to tell us today, just as the fallen heroes who lie in Arlington whisper through the ages. We honor them not only because they are guardians of our liberty, but because they embody the spirit of service; a willingness to find meaning in something greater than themselves. And yet, at this moment - a moment that will define a generation - it is precisely this spirit that must inhabit us all.
For as much as government can do and must do, it is ultimately the faith and determination of the American people upon which this nation relies. It is the kindness to take in a stranger when the levees break, the selflessness of workers who would rather cut their hours than see a friend lose their job which sees us through our darkest hours. It is the firefighter's courage to storm a stairway filled with smoke, but also a parent's willingness to nurture a child, that finally decides our fate.
Our challenges may be new. The instruments with which we meet them may be new. But those values upon which our success depends - hard work and honesty, courage and fair play, tolerance and curiosity, loyalty and patriotism - these things are old. These things are true. They have been the quiet force of progress throughout our history. What is demanded then is a return to these truths. What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility - a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task.
This is the price and the promise of citizenship.
This is the source of our confidence - the knowledge that God calls on us to shape an uncertain destiny.
This is the meaning of our liberty and our creed - why men and women and children of every race and every faith can join in celebration across this magnificent mall, and why a man whose father less than sixty years ago might not have been served at a local restaurant can now stand before you to take a most sacred oath.
So let us mark this day with remembrance, of who we are and how far we have traveled. In the year of America's birth, in the coldest of months, a small band of patriots huddled by dying campfires on the shores of an icy river. The capital was abandoned. The enemy was advancing. The snow was stained with blood. At a moment when the outcome of our revolution was most in doubt, the father of our nation ordered these words be read to the people:
"Let it be told to the future world...that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive...that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet it."
America. In the face of our common dangers, in this winter of our hardship, let us remember these timeless words. With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may come. Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations.

As usual, I felt I had to add my two-cents worth:

Mr. Sullivan:

As a Republican voter since 1971, I've spent the last 6 months writing blogs and posting comments on forums advocating that Republicans vote for Senator Obama. Nothing I've read has made the case better than your top-10 reasons. I would add however, that his conduct throughout this last month (October) provides the most compelling evidence in support of the proposition. It was a remarkable demonstration of his natural leadership ability, more by virtue of what he did not say and did not do, than what his opponent did do, and did say.

I was angry at the bailout, and wanted Obama to oppose it. He was wise enough to recognize that it's better to pick your own time and place to fight a battle than to rush in, solely in defense of the principle, when there's little or nothing you can really do to influence the outcome. McCain on the other hand, did more damage trying to appear 'presidential' at that moment, than if he had done nothing at all.

When McCain stepped up his attacks on Obama's fitness to serve as Commander in Chief, heaping ridicule on Obama in the process, I found it repugnant. It prompted me to go back and pore over the transcripts of the Cuban Missile Crisis (I was 10 years old at the time) that I found on-line. If ever there were an historical argument that proves the case for a President Obama, and against a President McCain, that was it. When I heard McCain declaring, in his most bellicose voice: "I was on an aircraft carrier during that crisis, I had a target and we were ready to go in...", I realized how fortunate we were that he was where he was: confined to the cockpit of his fighter jet, while JFK carefully navigated this country back from the brink of nuclear disaster, in part because he resisted the Joint Chief's pressure to strike at the Soviet missiles militarily.

Ironically, in spite of Joe Biden's ill-advised commentary on the subject, he may be proven correct. The next President is very likely to face a serious test, one that might turn out to be the closest thing to a repeat since the Cuban Missile Crisis ended exactly 46 years ago. We've announced our intention to install defensive missiles in Poland, and Vladimir Putin has stated that if we do, Russia will remove them, by military means if necessary. I cannot imagine a more dangerous scenario than having our angry ex-fighter pilot, John McCain, occupying the Oval Office and determined to prove how tough he really is, if a confrontation materializes over this issue. Any Republicans capable of honest critical thinking should consider this, and ask themselves if they really want John McCain with his finger on the button in such a scenario.

Yesterday, I filled in my Oregon ballot, voted for Obama and sent it in. To paraphrase Michelle Obama: this is the first time in eight Presidential elections I've voted that I really felt proud of the choice I had, and the choice I made.

In my opinion, this election is the most important and perilous for the future of this country since 1860. Then, as now, voters had a choice between experienced candidates promoting the conventional wisdom, and inexperience, with a serendipitous helping of promise for a better future. They chose the latter, and we should too.

My Detailed 2008 Election Predictions for All 50 States

My Detailed 2008 Presidential Election Predictions!

You can check out your own state and see how every demographic group will likely break down in this election.

Today I made some minor changes to my predictions after news broke that McCain was abandoning his Michigan campaign, and putting resources into Indiana and Pennsylvania. I also made some very minor changes to Minnesota, New Hampshire, Nevada, North Carolina and Ohio after looking at some new polling data. These changes were minor and did not change the eventual electoral outcome in any of the states, but instead solidified Obama's lead in those states.

Let me first explain how these election projections were made. Each State was carefully researched for the most recent census and other important demographic data. Using State by State U.S. Census data I broke down the state by Gender, Race, Party Affiliation, Age, Education Level, and Religion.

Using a complex formula I did the following, I created a Demographic profile of individuals. (ex. Men-White-Democrat-18 to 44-College Educated-Catholic) There were about 216 Different Demographic Groups represented.

Next I created a two part formula, the first was issue oriented, the second demographic oriented based on CNN Election 2004 Exit Polls.(http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/) The issues represented a wide variety of issues from Women's Issues, to Urban and Rural Issues, Foreign Policy and Economic Policy. I also included cultural issues such as Gun Rights and Racial Issues.

By answering a series of Yes/No Questions regarding those issues, I assigned specific numerical values to each question either Negative (liberal) or Positive (conservative).

On the Demographic formula I assigned importance based on exit polls from CNN. For instance Party is more important than Age or Gender. Race is more important than Gender etc.

The end result is a formula that is about 90%-95% accurate. I double checked the results against Exit Poll Data from 2004, and they match up remarkably well. Political Party numbers do tend to be under-represented in my formulas but do match up fairly accurately, and do balance out in the end. I used Exit Poll data, and numbers of Democrats and Republicans in the state legislatures to determine likely voter models for each political party.

HERE ARE THE FINAL RESULTS:

I project that Barack Obama will become the 44th President of the United States!

I project that Barack Obama will win with 338 Electoral Votes to John McCain's 200 Electoral Votes. (270 needed to win)

Obama will win 26 States and the District of Columbia. McCain will win 24 States.

Obama will win 51.12% of the Total Popular Vote; 67,531,664 - 338 Electoral Votes

McCain will win 47.03% of the Total Popular Vote; 62,130,227 - 200 Electoral Votes

Nader, McKinney, Barr and others will win 1.86% of the Vote; 2,451,238 - 0 Electoral Votes

TOTAL VOTES: 132,113,129 - 538 Electoral Votes

Projected difference between Obama and McCain: +4.09%

Protecting American Voting Rights!

In America, your right to vote makes you an American. In America, your right to vote makes you a tax-payer. In AMerica, your right to vote gets you one step closer at being a citizen. All around the country, voter registration drives, have re-boasted the vibe of voting. Organizations like A.C.O.R.N. which means: Association of Community Organization for Reform Now, have been working too hard in order to get people registered. Yet, the House Republican Base, who's seats are endangered see this organization or any organization like A.C.O.R.N. as a problem. This problem is the same problem that helps people get registered to vote: more like Rock the Vote. In fact both of these two organizations fuel off the same information and ideas set down by the federal government.

What I can't understand is why two programs that do idnentical things, in terms of functioning and voter's rights -- are at the opposite side of the House/ Republican's table: here's an idea! A.C.O.R.N. brings in 90% of their voter drives to the Democratic Party, While Rock the vote brings in 45% of their drives to the Democratic Party. Rock the Vote turns in 55% for the Republican Party, and A.C.O.R.N. turns in 10% to the Republican party -- so this means the Republicans can't inspire their base so they want to pick which program works and what doesn't to favor them. Fact are: 55% of newly registered voters are Democrat, with 25% are independent -- with 20% Republican. Now they want to take away your rights.

The Repubs base wants to say this: These people are criminals, these people are illegally here; these people are not competent enough to vote. Listen, they ARE WRONG: During the primaries, you voted on the voter act initiative; which protects your rights unless you are mentally challenged -- and even then you still have the right to vote with assistance.

1: To be registered by 10/4

2: U.S. Citizen that has a residence in the states county for more than 30 days on Election Day: Including a P.O. Box from the stats post office.

3: 18 years of age before Election Day.

4: If you are not in prison or on parole for a felony convicition on or two weeks before election day.

5: College students have a right to use the dormitory as a primary residence -- home or school: and they can oly vote ONCE.

6: Only a person with a misdemeanor conviction can still vote, and they have the right to vote from the jails: MISDEANORS ONLY.

7: A felony conviction can only register: after they have been cleared from: parole, probation, and their current charge.

8: A homeless person can vote if were they usually stay: they can use that place like: a park, a shelter, or a citizen sibling in good standing -- in which they reside in the county of the state they are registering in to vote.

These are the rights you have to vote and these are the rights that A.C.O.R.N. and Rock the Vote is using. One problem: Rock The Vote is an online company, and A.C.O.R.N. is a minority based community program: running under the cleanest rules in America, and just like Coaches! 101 they are under federal investiagtion. I get it when you are clean: you must be evil if you're not a Republican. When you are dirty, and create scandels -- like the financial crisis: you are good with the Republican base. Marriage & Divorce,Oregon Style

How are you doing today? I have entitled this blog entry "Marriage and Divorce, Oregon Style", because for whatever reasons these people have, Oregon laws are written more or less the same as all the rest of the other States, but in practice it is a very different kettle of fish altogether, especially if the Matlands are involved in either doing the ceremonies, or the courthouse for Linn County are doing the divorces.Or yet again, if it is one of the many marriages that the Matlands are actually participating in, when being the new spouse.

So let us look at this a bit closer.There are obviously both men and women at the homeless shelter, and being normal and having the need to be loved or feel wanted, some meet and fall in love.Then they look towards the pastor or the minister to perform the ceremony for however much it is that Matlands charge nowadays.This is supposed to be the happiest day of one's life.By taking money for doing the ceremony,and they most definately do, and the Matlands not being ordained, that alone is fraud.One marriage ceremony whereby the people are charged, can be prosecuted.Think how many have taken place over thirty odd years.

So OK, Matlands will do nearly anything for money.I can understand that.They know that this is fraud, but choose to go ahead anyway.Now I am only referring to people/couples who meet up and fall in love, who either live at the shelter or in the area and think that Matlands really are genuine, and therefore ask them to perform the service.That is fine.Those people are innocent to the crime that they unwittingly get embroiled in.The records of that union are placed in Linn County Courthouse and Oregon Vital Statistics, or when Matlands were in Cave Junction, they were kept in Josephine County Courthouse.

But what when it is one of the Matlands themselves who find a new victim, who usually comes from the homeless shelter and there is perhaps no family that seem to know that that person is perhaps even staying there? Whichever Matland is on the prowl , they chat the unsuspecting person up, letting them see what good church people they are, and impress them with tales of all of the properties that they own, and in general, give them the full spiel, and perhaps that person thinks that they are on to a good little number anyway.But having said that, they still have absolutely no idea of course that this is part of a big scam.So the paperwork is filled out, lodged in the court and the Marriage ceremony goes ahead.Then just weeks or months later, that person is seeing that not everything is as it first appeared.Matlands will work your butt off, open bank accounts, put utilities in your name, steal your mail, and if you have children which came with this new spouse(for want of a better word)put them to work, use and abuse them, and they will do that to the spouse as well.If there is any money to be got from welfare, Food Stamps, or anything that gives Matlands more money, then Gale would be the one to sort that as she is the one who deals with the paperwork because she is a trained forger. She was trained by the best when in California working in a clothing sweat shop.She wanted more money, so they trained her to do the books and the art of forgery.And believe me, she is good at it.What she doesn't know, isn't worth knowing.And you only have to look at what she is doing today, to know how good she is.Right under all of your noses.

So we have the illegal marriage. We have the new spouse sort of getting an idea that not is all as it should be. Nobody perhaps is contacting him/her and they are feeling more and more isolated from past friends and family and 'their mail' and they are not allowed to use the phones.So alarm bells have to surely be ringing in their heads.On top of this there is the violence, plus they have to work their socks off for the Mission, in one capacity or another and therefore have no time to think hardly, let alone cop on that they are just being used for whatever Matlands had plans on using them for.

Then comes the time when they have to leave this situation and find that the Matlands are not wanting that to happen and so do everything to make sure that that person is going nowhere.I have already described some of their tactics whereby they will chase you down like they are a posse, whereby they use their vehicles instead of horses,then God help you if they catch you, then see what happens to you.But that is not the subject of this entry.One man who married Gale had three children. The paperwork went on file, however it was not worth a light.The situation for him became so intolerable that in the end, he had to escape in the middle of the night.But had to leave his children behind with the intention of returning in the daylight to pick them up when he had found a place to take them.Matlands refused to part with his children and things got so serious that he had to go to the police to get a 'Writ of Assistance' to get them back.Now you would think that that was quite straight foreward.The children were only two, three and five years old when this illegal marriage took place.Surely wouldn't the police simply go and knock on Matlands door and pick the children up. It's not as if Gale gave birth to any of them or that Gale had been married to this man for any length of time. But NO! Matlands wanted those three children for their evil purposes.Money being one.To get those children back, the police had to trick the Matlands and when they were out of the way on the street, other police went in and grabbed them back.Had Matlands have not had to part with them, according to Gale, they would have been counted as orphans and were worth far more to them.But doesn't it make one wonder if perhaps there was not a more sinister plan and were they perhaps going to sell them on like a lot of other children were in Oregon, which of course you can read about on the 'Voice for 'Children Website, listed on my Links section.And be sure to see the names of who is featured on the Hall of Shame, pages and read the Supreme Court Hearings and listen to the video recordings and read "The Truth is on Trial" pages and then if you live in Oregon and are reading this, you will see so many of the people whom Oregonians are supposed to look up to.They are the very same people that are running your State offices and courts and SCF and in the Children's Ombudsman's office.

So I am going to close this part of the blog and return with some more food for thought following the divorces that took place with Matlands as Petitioner.

A Thought For The Day.

I will keep this short and sweet today.This is more or less just to ponder upon.The weather being cold does turn ones mind to heat, then fire, and it doesn't take much of a guess to know that I would be leading up to my point about how strange it is for one family to be around so many fires.

Let us talk about the latest that I know of, and that was at 705 Lyon Street, the homeless person's shelter owned by The Signs of Victory Mission.This was started by a non-incendary device, around 5 am in the morning. There were families there at the time and with children.This was in January 2003. A pile of cardboard mysteriously caught fire , which the mission had been planning on selling.The shelter had eight smoke detectors.Better still, all of them worked, according to fire officials.This fire caused $25,000 in damage.That's a handy bit of insurance to come back.

Everybody got out safely because the fire started up the east side of the building.Well, I'd have to say "Thank God for that".So that was very convenient that this fire did not start anywhere where there were people around.I wonder how much insurance would have come back then? There were people on each floor including the basement. I wonder if the windows were nailed down that day. I bet they weren't, but they bloody well used to be.Maxine said that it was to stop people breaking in to the building.Is she mad or what! Who the hell in their right mind would break in to a run down hell hole like that? Nobody would, but going back not to long ago, the nails were definately in the windows and that was to stop the Veterans (who stayed in that area) from leaving. And please do not think that they just had to climb the stairs up to the hallway, because that door had a hook and eye shutting it at night.But Maxine said that that was so these men could not get up into the main area of the house.UTTER TRIPE!!!!

These people were not intended to be going anywhere.And that can be proved, like the rest of what I have written.The veterans were worth money to the Matlands and visitors were definately not encouraged,so I find it very strange that on the day of this fire, there were fresh batteries in each of the smoke detectors and this door to the basement was not locked, on top of which this pile of cardbord was able to set itself on fire and was in a position so that nobody got hurt. Now apart from the lady that heard one of the smoke alarms and woke the other people, guess who was first on the scene, to make sure that this fire got put out? Come on now, it's not a hard guess.You've got it. Dear old George Raymond Matland Jnr. himself, bless him.He had it put out before the firefighters arrived.He said "I almost had it out".Now being that it was cardboard that started this fire,by setting alight to itself, and George living in his mother's house in Seventh Ave., who I wonder was phoned for first??? Was it George? did he still have his clothes on at 5 am in the morning? or was it the firebrigade, who are only one block away and used to rushing to fires??? George got there first and put the fire out and then the fire brigade turned up.Isn't this just the biggest load of crap that you just read? Do they all think everyone is stupid? Nobody on that day or during the fiasco of an investigation, had a clue as to who set fire to the Mission (so they say).How then was a story printed a few months later when Matlands were looking for more money, did George tell the reporter that the mission was set fire to by a drunk that got banned from the mission? Excuse me, the main drunks at that mission are the Matlands themselves and how did they come up with that person when on the day of the fire, nobody had a clue as to who started it.It must have been psychic intervention. And once they came up with this man, was he arrested? Not bloody likely.

The next fire was 532 Baker Street,That was March 1996. One fire set in one place which did not do enough damage, so another was set. And who came home not 5 minutes later from being out, George Matland, and the one subject that was not discussed, was the fire at 532 Baker Street. I don't know about you, but if my house burnt down, I would most certainly be discussing it. And Matlands told everybody that it was one of the people who had been staying at the Mission. Well, should I be surprised? He was not even in Albany that time and Matlands were pissed off at him because he had gone off to be at another church.You see they always blame someone at the mission for everything, because they move around a good bit.

Then take the fire again like the first two, started by a non incendary device, but this time at 200 Pacific Blvd., where Matlands had their pallets.Rolled up newspapers were stuffed into the pallets.This was clever. That paper also caught fire and of course, up went the pallets.And who walked in to the house not minutes earlier, puffing and blowing, George Matland.This is a very nifty runner.Did he get done for that fire? No he did not.

Fire number four that happened was on a neighbour of theirs cabin in Cave Junction.They fell out, so his cabin got burnt down.Did George get done for that? No he did not.

Now there is a fifth fire, started again by a non incendary device, and was fairly recent, and in a building that Matlands had occupied.But I won't put that one here, for reasons best kept to myself at this time.

But all I am pointing out is, this is to much of a coincidence surely to be real. And why did the fire brigade officer at the time when I called regarding all these fires, chat for ages, and passed it on to the Batallion Chief who was investigating the Lyon Street fire and unfortunately, it didn't go any further because he happened to be retiring. What a coincidence all this is, don't you think? He didn't even bother to phone me back. Talk to you soon.

What Is One Supposed To Do?

Hi Everyone,

I do hope that you had a great weekend. And I certainly hope that your weather is better than it is here.It has been so overcast today and pouring with rain, and then came the gales.Very depressing but then haven't we really got a lot to be so grateful for?

Let us think for a while about this crazy, evil family that I am telling you about.My daughter was still living with George Matland Jnr., this was in January 1998. George gave Andrea the poison to take, when she thought that she was going to be taking Tylanol.He deliberately made her have her dose from the bottle that he kept in his own private cupboard.He gave it to her himself on a spoon.And because it tasted so awful, she swallowed it to get it out of her mouth, thinking that it tasted so bad because perhaps it had gone off. As I have said in another blog, it reacted on her immediately. So suddenly that George got a fright and went to get her milk.He certainly did not get her a doctor or Police I hasten to add, but then he wouldn't would he?But I won't go over all that again, as I already wrote about that.

Two weeks later was the incident whereby the Matlands were doing what they do best. DRINKING THEMSELVES INTO OBLIVION.It was late into the night, the Soup Kitchen was well over and some of the people stayed back for a drinking session and my middle grandson was still working.This was the night that he got attacked by George Jnr., for dareing to go upstairs to be with his mom who was looking after baby George.He shouldn't have left work you see, but he was only a little tot and wanted a rest.George followed and Maxine followed both of them. And George saw him resting, verbally abused him, and attacked him by kicking the chair that he was sitting on, from under him and grabbing his head as he fell and bashed it into the wall.And I have already written about that and how she and this child had to escape. The baby had been picked up by George Jnr. and whatever George told the Police when he took them on one side, they believed him and told him to take the baby for the night and go and stay at his mothers so that things could calm down. But as luck would have it, a kind neighbour realised what was happening and came to the rescue, telling them that he had seen this all before and that she had to get out there and then, whilst she still could. She thought that she would be able to pick the baby up next morning.

In Oregon there is a law that says that if one parent is the abuser, then that child automatically goes to the parent who is the non-abuser.Now that would seem sensible as long as you don't live in Albany, Oregon, or that your name is not Matland, because there is a whole set of different rules where that family is concerned.It's called NO RULES! And Jason Carlile, District attorney and the Police and SCF, all bow and scrape to keep this all a secret.Nobody is going to upset the Matlands.But let me move on a bit.

I already said about how George Jnr. had the cheek to get a Restraining Order against Andrea, accusing her of being the one who was doing the attacking, and as George is so well versed in the court,(after ten wives, you would be) knew that his would come through quicker than hers because Benton County take 24 hours. Whereas George got his imediately, thus allowing him to have temporary custody of the baby.However she had to get different stuff sorted and a bit down the line she had to talk to Children's Services in Albany.She was trying to get an apartment in Albany, but because of the Restraining Order could not go near the Matlands property. Plus months went past before she could even get to visit little George. She could not find an attorney who would take her case.Matlands had used just about every attorney and not paid most of them. They kept saying that it was a conflict of interest and so here she was, no attorney, she had left Matlands pennyless,and although she had got some sort of welfare help, it only tides one over. Plus she had kept her son at the same school as he was happy there and she didn't want to cause him any more upset than possible so travelled between Corvallis and Albany each day.

Anyway, this particular day, whilst still at the shelter for battered wives, she went to SCF in Albany.She saw a woman by the name of Rose Infonte.This woman was as bigger bitch as it was possible to be, who had some hangup about Andrea's nationality.She was asking Andrea how she was going to get an apartment with hardly any money, and was questioning her like it was an interrogation.She was under terrible stress from all that Matlands had done to her and the children,and no proper home at that time, and the bus service was not the best and consequently they were leaving home very early each morning so as to get to the school on time in Albany, so she was very warn down and emotionally at rock bottom.But was trying to keep things together.This bitch got her into such a state , on top of which when she asked Andrea how much she was going to look for an apartment for, and Andrea told her $350 per month, she retorted, "You'll only get a skanky apartment for that and you will never get your child back".She was yelling at her.What sort of person "I can't call her an animal as that is an insult to animals" carries on like that, like a complete lunatic, to somebody who is so stressed out to start with? How the hell did this "THING" get a job in the first place?She was going on about her Green Card and asked where hers was, and yet Andrea is totally legal.So what is this "THING'S problem? And how did she ever get a job working with human beings?

When Andrea got back to the shelter in Corvallis, she was so ill that evening that she was rushed off to hospital with a suspected heart attack. When I phoned that night, the women working there were so worried because I was so far away, that they didn't tell me how bad she was, but then when I called the following day I learnt what had happened.Well, needless to say I phoned SCF. talked to this bitch, talked to one higher and tried to get hold of the man, who at that time was over Linn and Benton County called Pat Melius. I even called him on the emergency number. I was totally ignored. Now Diane Aspengren is the one who is the head one now, and between her and Peggy Davis, covered up what was going on at the mission. I have photos of little George whereby sidefaced you can see where he was punched so hard in the mouth, that the split is deep. I have photos where he had burns, and bruises, was filthy, clothes sticky with dirt. He was full of fleas. Matlands did everything possible (once the court gave her "Supervised Visitation", as if she was the guilty party) to prevent any visitation on Andrea's part. They used a house that Gale and her child sex abuser of a boyfriend squatted in, for Visitation, and Maxine and George hid upstairs in it and men from the Mission hovered around the house to intimidate her and her son.George Jnr. did things like hanging a notice outside saying "Gone Fishing" and did other things all so she couldn't see her baby.He pulled every trick in the book to screw up visits.They even brainwashed the child by telling him that Gale was his mother and that Andrea was not.But I do believe that that also was for purposes of fraud.

A couple of women who were staying at the Mission were in the Soup Kitchen at Matlands one day when they saw baby George on the floor with his dinner. But he was not eating it, so George Jnr., got him by the arm, put his foot under him and carried him hanging like that.These women, who had never met Andrea as this was a good while later, were so shocked at how he treated baby George that they went to SCF and reported what they had seen, to Diane Aspengren. All that woman said was, "Go tell his mother" and did nothing.

A good while later Andrea heard from a neighbour that her divorce was in the newspaper.Her letter from the court was conveniently stolen from her mailbox telling her of the date and time. And who do we know that is into stealing people's mail? George Matland and he would know when it came because he would have had a copy himself.So she never got to go to her divorce, but then she was never really married to George in the first place, because his mother Maxine did the service.Like she did with several of his other wives. And George had done the service on Maxine when she was getting married to another spouse. And George or Maxine would do the service for Gale, when she was getting married.Mind you she also had her fair share of spouses also. Now what, one wonders is so special about getting married illegaly in Albany and why would Linn County Courthouse go ahead with these divorces knowing that they were illegal? On top of which, why would Oregon Vital Statistics knowingly not only leave these records on file, but allow the Matlands to carry on doing these marriages. But here is the worst bit, and even I cannot understand why Gale and George would go along with this.How could Gale let her own children marry lads that they really seem to love,and have a full and proper reception and beautiful dresses, and the whole bit, KNOWING THAT THEY ARE NOT WORTH THE PAPER THAT THEY ARE WRITTEN ON? Now that actually was heartbreaking to hear,and these marriages took place in 2006, and I don't even know the girls to talk to or if they have been told.I know that the courthouse knows because I told them, but I doubt that Matlands will get prosecuted for those marriages either.But I can tell you something. Nobody goes through the cost of marrying and divorcing, knowing the marriages to be illegal, without there being a seriously lucrative scam involved.And Matlands have been doing these marriages on each other and people who pay them who think that they are really getting married, for 30 years.George did the ceremonies on the girls last year .And he is a minister of nothing. More tomorrow.

A Precious Child.

Hi Everyone,

I was going to write a funny blog today, but just for now I would be better writing about someone much more important. My little Grandson. He is a very handsome little chap, and is the living image of his mom.That must really piss big George off, because it would be like looking at Andrea every day.

So as to get Andrea out of the way this one time, this was when she was still with him, he told her that she had to take her older son and go away for a few days as a man was coming to the Mission to see the family and that he was very dangerous and George said that he felt it would be safer if they weren't there.He said that this man was coming from out of State. Andrea did not want to have to go but the family absolutely insisted that she leave and they told her that it would be for one week. They said that she couldn't take little George because she needed a rest and that they would look after him for her. They forced the issue so much so that she had no option but to go. On the morning of the departure there was a phone call from this man, very early in the morning. He was saying that he had got lost entering Oregon, which had left him a good way off from Albany. George was so flustered on hearing from this man that when he went to get the tickets for her and her older son, he booked the tickets through to Seattle, one way only.

He made them get on the bus and off they went. Seattle was miles away from where they should have gone and when they got off of the bus and realized that they had been brought to the wrong city, they didn't know what to do. George had given them one way tickets, and no money, nothing to eat or drink on the journey and they were stranded.Now this is how George and the Matlands were.As mean and miserly as could be. Andrea made a call to some church people that she had met in Albany who lived in Washington and they drove up to Seattle to pick them up and took them to their house.Andrea called George over and over to send them the money to get the bus home again and once they had been there two weeks and he still had not sent it, the church people gave them the fares home again.She was desperate to be with her baby, but Matlands of course did not want that.

When they got back to Albany, the Matlands said that they didn't think that she would return to Albany again. As if she would leave her son behind. This is just showing you how mentally deranged this family are.Anyway it was very clear that the Matlands did not want her there.All they wanted was the baby.Things got worse at the Matlands, then one day George asked her to do something for him just to help him out with some of his paperwork as it needed sorting and by mistake he gave her the wrong box. To her horror she found that it contained the names of other women whom he had been married to, that she had no idea had exisited. He had always told her that she was his third wife. Not at all. Also on these papers were their details and about what Life Policies he had on them.Well, if nothing else had made her believe that he was a con man, this certainly raised her suspicions.

A while before, I had told her that things were not as they seemed, but it was such a job actually getting to speak to Andrea on the phone, that out of desperation one day I told her that I would be coming over on a certain date to visit.I put it at a few months ahead of this call, saying that because I knew that if they knew that I was coming over, that they would have to keep her alive until after my visit.. I had already heard some really bad stuff from different people where they used to live so I knew that this was all a sham to start with.I had no doubt whatsoever that all that I would turn up in an investigation would be more bad stuff as nobody had had a good word to say about the Matlands.Even three different Pastors would you believe, all said how memorable they were. How the heck would Pastors remember people from up to nearly 40 years ago, in one case, and say that they would never forget them as long as they lived, as they were so odd.Even a couple of people in the congregation that I traced, now well in their 80's remembered them.Maxine was actually saying back then that when her husband died, she was going to become a minister in the church.

I found that really strange and I will tell you why. Her husband went off with another woman very early on in the marriage, so he has three children just a fraction younger than the two he had by Maxine. The Pastor did not even know what her husband looked like as he never saw him, so all that crap printed in the newspaper in her profile, that I mentioned earlier on in my blog, was a figment of her imagination, and if one reads the divorce case, that to is bunk. The nearest Maxine came to being a Pastor was that her birth father was a Pastor, but having said that, her Mom and Clarence were divorced,and her Mom remarried and Maxine liked the new surname and changed to that.So why going back so many years, Maxine would tell her Pastor that she would become a Minister when her husband died, was irrelevant.But how is this for strange !!! He died in 1978 and just a few weeks earlier she decided to lodge false paperwork in the courthouse in Cave Junction, stating that she was an ordained minister.Not that there was a word of truth hardly on the paperwork, but nevertheless, she posed as a Pastor.And bought two properties in Cave Junction.One being the one she called "The Signs of Victory Bible School".She even had a couple of "heavies" there.Now that is strange for a normal church to have.Now I know that that is true and it is definate that a lot more went on in that area than you or I know.But that is a very sore subject with a few people there.Matlands advertised themselves as being a church and did marriages and again the spouses were very, very violently dealt with, and not just by one Matland.All three jumped in.The Sheriff from back then died a little while back, but I am telling you, Cave Junction and the forest holds many secrets.One of these heavies worked for the Sheriff's dept. back then and there is definately no mention of kidnap, child abuse, of Matlands going to kill George's wife after going after her child.Or of the young lad who tried to escape and his brothers tried to rescue him.They even lined up a second car so as not to be found but Matlands told the Sheriff that he had been kidnapped and these lads made it as far as Crescent City, California and took him to a doctors surgery there. As this boy was in with the doctor, the radio was playing . The doctor heard about this kidnapping (which of course wasn't a kidnapping) and phoned for the Sheriff in Cave Junction, and the boy was carted off back to the Matlands.NOW HOW DESPERATE ARE THEY TO GET A CONGREGATION????

A while later, time passed and this boy did escape. But he nearly died in the process as he was on his own, sleeping rough, the weather was so bad, but in the end, he made it to where he was safe away from these sick bastards.George worked in the forest logging.I was told that had one have taken a shovel and dug where the trees had been cut when he was working there, that one would find more than just logs .I'd say that that ground was well fertilised.These are a very dangerous family.And very mentally sick into the bargain.But as long as what they are doing brings them big money, they don't care.What lengths would they go to for the sake of greed? For a non profit making organisation, it's a very lucrative business. More tomorrow.

Hello Again,

Picture this. You have already read in this blog, how George Matland Jnr. verbally attacked Andrea just minutes after having had a C-Section and producing a beautiful baby son.His first and only child that we know of, so one would imagine that he would be delighted and in a loving frame of mind.Also, after having had eight previous wives, all who it turned out to be ,that he had treated them in such an abominable way that each had had to escape so as to save their lives for fear of what the Matland family would do to them, that no other babies seem to have been born with him being the father.Plus he was in his mid forties at the time of this marriage, and was most definately an ugly, evil looking, rednecked cretin, so would hardly be getting the chance to be with many other women as he got older, not unless they were into the same sort of crimes that Matlands were into.Otherwise there would be no point.But my daughter loved him at that time, and as the saying goes "Love is blind".

I mentioned that she was forbidden outside contact with nearly everybody, was left with no money and her Food Stamps taken, thus leaving her dependent on George , but then as he was doping her up via her food, he had her exactly where he wanted her and her other sons.So following the phonecall that I had made to the hospital just as the baby had been born, and him blowing a fuse right there in front of the hospital staff, for talking to me, he had a plan to teach her a lesson for when she came out of hospital.

And you will find this hard to believe what he had planned to pay her back.On the day that she came out of hospital, he took and hid the newborn baby for three days so that she could not see him.Now what kind of animal (I shouldn't call him an animal because that is an insult to them, and he was worse) would do that to the mother of his first child? There was nothing she could do at the time as of course she had no money or way of getting away from him to a different place with the boys, so she had to sit it out.Plus there was the other two dogs to make sure that she went nowhere. Did I say DOGS? I meant Maxine and GaleThe two sickos who openly allowed child sex, as did George.They actually talked about it openly and this was known by people staying at the shelter.And the talk of the area.I can only say here that one child was involved, and it went on for years, but Matlands condoned this although I do know that George was worried about the situation.Not that he had any room to talk, because if prior spouses were questioned, there was some very strange stories that had happened to their children and in one case that I know of, when he was caught actually sexually abusing a child by it's mother and she tried to escape, all three Matlands went out like you see in the cowboy films, in a posse. They each got in their vehicles and tried to track her and her child down. George found them, got them back to the house and beat and raped her so badly that she went nowhere for a couple of weeks, and all that time he was taunting her.When this girl told Maxine (the pretend pastor) all she said was" if he did that to you, then you must have deserved it).

Going back to my daughter and the baby being taken, she got him back after the three days, but they took him again whenever she did something that displeased them.Not only that, they had her convinced that the Police wanted to arrest her.Every so often they would say that the police were parked up outside the front of the church, where her and George and the boys had an apartment over the Thrift shop/Church and then they would bundle her up and bring her out through the back way and take her to another house.They even put her in the boot of the car one day to get her away.But they would keep the baby.Sometimes she would be gone for two or three days.Then they would bring her back.

Another thing that Matlands would be well known for doing, is putting the Utilities in people at the Mission's names.Running up bills for clothes would be Gales' thing and she would even say that she had done it.The Utility people would send the bills, there would be no response and then after a while, they would try and prosecute. That is when the person whose name they had used, would realize what had happened.My daughter was not even married to George, or living in the address that they used on this one particular bill, and Gale was out there spending money freely in my daughter's name.Life policies was another thing that George was into. He tried to get Life policies on each wife.Now as to whether they knew this or not, I don't know. But he definately took out the policies.

It was as if each Matland was responsible for certain crimes.Maxine was out and out into getting properties. Also she would have been a big part of the violence on any of the spouses, but they were known to all join in.I can't say that that is for every case of violence, but I know from other spouses that she seemed to be really into the violence.She even sat and openly discussed how they wanted to kill Gales spouse(well, he thought he was her souse)with George ,and my daughter was sitting there in the car listening. It was as if it meant nothing. But then, it probably didn't because I was assured by families prior to them being in Albany, that they had turned into pusseycats compared to where they had come from before.

Now how low is this? Those poor homeless people didn't know what they were letting themselves in for by going to that Homeless shelter.They used to get the children to rob their belongings and what they used to do was to put a bin liner in the basement at the bottom of the shute and then as the stuff of any use was robbed, they would just send it down and it would go straight into a bin bag.And could the homeless people do anything about it? Not likely.Would you take on three violent, sadistic sicko's like them? I don't think so.

Who Do You Sit Next To?

Hello People,

How are you all today? I do hope that your weather is better than it is here in Ireland .Wet and very windy is the best description of what it is like here today.A bit like a baby's bum.But I expect that those of you who are reading this adore babies.In most cases people protect their children.Would die for their children.And if you are one of the few who don't like kids, you still wouldn't want to see any harm come to them, even if they belong to other parents.And for the odd few who hurt their kids physically, mentally,or any other way, there is always SCF to come to the rescue isn't there??? After all, isn't that the idea, and why SCF was invented? To protect the children who were getting hurt.To investigate what was going on? The idea being that anyone in public office or ordinary people could, if worried for a child's safety, could tell SCF and they would see if the child/children were safe and well cared for.And act accordingly.

Whilst we are on the subject of services provided in Albany, Albany Police dept. are supposed to protect people and investigate crimes, it's part of why they join the service.Working in the Police dept. is a bit like a calling.You want to help people.You want to protect the ordinary citizens.So being a policeman is a good way of doing that.

And on top of which, wouldn't you think that if you worked at the Courthouse as a Judge or DA, or in one of the many offices there processing records, which in each case, would be an importent job of responsiblity, that you would want to do that job to the best of your ability?

Then of course there is the Albany Fire Dept., now there is a job where you definately would need to be dedicated.One's life would be at risk everytime one went to a fire.So you would really have to admire the people who joined up for this job .It takes guts and determination, and they save lives just about every day of the week.

Then we have the Sheriff's dept. one would still need dedication, to be honest(as also in the jobs that I have so far mentioned) brave, able to handle people with firmness and integrity.I mean to say, some of the situations that they and the services above must encounter, must be awful, heartrending, dangerous, none know whether they will get attacked, shot or what when they go to a callout, but they put their thoughts and fears to one side, because they are dedicated!

Well, it is nice to dream. So why does that not happen in Albany when it comes to investigating the Matlands many crimes? And why was it the same in Cave Junction. One case of trespass is all that was on record there.? There was kidnap, illegal marriages, abuse both physical and mental on poor unfortunates that went to their Bible School (big joke!) fraud and forgery, and arson.It just strikes me as very odd that for several years there was one case of trespass on record.But doesn't it remind you of exactly the same crimes that the heads of the departments mentioned above, have all gone to such great lengths to cover up for thirty years in Albany?

So I could name names, list the crimes, but I don't have time today.But it is food for thought.If these crimes were carried out by anybody else in Albany, these agencies would be down on those people, like a ton of bricks.So why not the Matlands???

The title of this entry is "Who Do You Sit Next To?" My meaning being that the heads of some of these agencies sit sweetly in their respective churches letting everybody believe that they are more godly than the next person, they bear their testimonies to the congregation, play the piano or whatever, say their prayers, according to which churches they are affiliated to, but behind the scenes and back in their jobs, they are going to great lengths not to bring Matlands crimes to light or deal with them.And believe me, I have tried.Again and again I will say this. There is no justice in Oregon if the Matlands are involved.Ask yourselves why? What do they have that the other people don't have? They have a false church, a shelter for the homeless, a pastor who was never a pastor and a minister who was never a minister. They have many people, men, women and children who are desperate for shelter.They are all very vulnerable, and all have to work for Matlands.And I mean the youngest of children as well. They have access to their mail via the church mail box.Can be quite lucrative at times.Food Stamps are always handy as tithes. They are cheap labor, whatever way you look at it. But there is more then the illegal marriages and the very real divorces whereby Matlands definately are not losing out.So why wouldn't the courthouse look into that. Why would the judges go ahead with these cases, knowing that the marriages were in most cases, illegal to start with. Why is it so hard to get ones children out of Matlands clutches????And why does it not matter what fate befalls those children even when the crimes on them are known about? Why would SCF be so keen to not investigate cases there that they would wait three weeks before going out to a call, and then phone ahead and arrange that the meeting takes place in the dark, out on the pavement and when it is so far past when the original injury was done, that it could not hardly be seen.And this woman investigating stayed sitting in her car whilst the father and child stood chatting to her.This is one isolated incident of several.Doesn't it make you question who the guilty party is there??? And she is the head one there.I wouldn't let her guard the monkeys in the zoo......MORE TOMORROW!

Life's A Bitch.

Hi,

Let me add some more of this story regarding what happened to my daughter.Firstly though, I must just make a slight ammendment.I said in yesterday's blog (part 2) that the children were taken for one year so as to give my daughter time to get well after all that had happened to her. It was actually 11 months, but the reason that it was so long was not because they were taken for that length of time in the first place, but because this George Matland, that she had just married, refused to comply with the wishes of the court and so on, and would not attend any of the classes that they were asked to go to.He was definately worried that they would look into his background. So what I am saying is, although I have been researching this family for the past ten years, there has to be more on file either in Albany or Cave Junction and even prior to that.And I firmly believe that it involves something to do with children.

Yesterday I told you about how Andrea was allowed no outside contact with people.Also about how by a sheer fluke that I telephoned the local hospital for the first time ever, because of a gut feeling, and just fifteen minutes earlier she had been admitted into hospital to have baby George.But let me tell you this next part so that you can see for yourselves just what evil bastards this family are.

She had labor pains one day, but it was way to early for the baby to come and so George took her to the hospital and Maxine went as well.When she was examined she was so low in magnesium that Albany hospital decided to get her into Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene, as they were so worried about her.She was taken by ambulance and Maxine and George followed in the car.Because she had been examined in Albany just shortly before, she was given a bed in a room and the only people in it were Maxine and George.She had been put on a drip because of the megnesium being so very low. Whatever happened in the room with only Maxine and George in it, by the time the doctor came in, her magnesium level had shot up to three times what it was supposed to be and the doctor was horrified as to what had happened to her.She actually had a complete out of body experience at this time and believed she had died momentorily.Maxine and George stayed with her like guard dogs for the rest of that day and night. Then they went back to the mission where Andrea's two boys were being looked after by Gale(far from looked after, actually)as she is as evil as Maxine and George.We didn't know until later that she had used a leather belt on the seven year old boy.But then her own children were treated very violently also, and this happened for minor incidents, let alone serious ones.

Andrea's labor pains subsided and so the baby was not born then, but the hospital were so worried about the state that she was in as she was so worn down, that they kept her a bit longer(.They even asked her if she could go back to get her doctor to send her back in to their hospital, so as to get her away from the matlands a bit longer). But Maxine didn't like George wasting time going to visit her, as it meant that she had not got him at her beck and call, and one day phoned Andrea in the hospital and was screaming down the phone at her calling her every name under the sun.Like the incident when George caught Andrea talking to me on the phone when she had just given birth to her little boy, and George started yelling at her for daring to talk to me, this incident was witnessed by the nursing staff, as was the one in Sacred Heart when it was Maxine screaming down the phone. She was so jealous of anyone taking his attention away from it just being on her.Whatever way you look at it, these are sick in the head type people.They are hated. It is an awful thing to say, but they really are. That is not me being a bitch.Their properties are so run down, so full of trash everywhere, they yell and scream and are very violent.There are many articles on the disgusting conditions that their tenents are living in,and photos of one place where the raw sewage was coming up in the bath, and the toilet was also in the bath. Ant there were photos of the cockroaches and bugs on the ceiling, almost like a freeze. It was unbelievable how the houses were never closed down, but having said that, the court did give her orders to clean up the place on several occassions and charged them in fines for not doing it. They had so many foreclosures and cases in court that it was ridiculous,but these were all non violent cases, debts and so on, but never was anything done regarding all the real crimes involving violence .Every time they got away with it.The Police and Sheriff and DA did not want to know.

This relationship with Maxine and George was the strangest, most suffocating one that you could imagine. He was 55 years old this year and until she died in March, he was hardly ever out of her sight.The same nearly goes for Gale, who is now 54 years old, but because she had husbands, for want of a better word,it meant that sometimes they lived in a separate house.But with George, he was at her beck and call 24 hours a day. When he was courting Andrea, if he gave her a rose, Maxine had to have a bigger and better one. If they went out for a coffee( that is as near dating as George does) Maxine had to go as well.She was like the ultimate mother-in-law from hell.A well known American saying is "crazy arsed mother fuc---, (nudge, nudge, nod's as good as a wink) well this relationship really sums that saying up. They were sick. perverted.She even had a key to let herself into their apartment and would go round in the early hours of the morning, if she was on her own and had not scored with some poor unfortunate fella at the shelter, and she would ORDER George out of bed and he would have to go round to her place and sleep there.Like I said, they were really sick, buy then there is a much worse case scenario.You think that that is sick, that I have already told you about . Sorry, but this gets worse.I think before I enter that part of the story, that I ought to hang on a bit before saying what else Matlands were condoning.

I already told you that they were involved in performing many illegal marriages.The first marriages were legal, in Texas and California and Nevada. But the violence by the Matlands was beyond belief.It was not just like a normal fight between husband and wife, they ganged up on the victim.That's why there are so many people over the years who have been gathering information on them in the hopes that they could expose them, but because Matlands have some sort of a hold over the people in office, police and so on, nothing gets done.These people are so incensed at the vicious treatment that members of their family received at the hands of the Matlands, that there is a group who are watching and waiting to get something done legally, and quite by accident I stumbled across them.But if I wait much longer for them, nothing will get done, plus also, they are so terrified that the Matlands will find out where they are, that they keep moving.I am talking about over thirty years, and still when I track these people down, their one thing is to tell me not to give away where they are living now.They really are frightened, to the point whereby they are nearly to frightened to talk to me.Matlands play with your mind.And as if that is not bad enough, they don't leave you alone when the marriage (legal or otherwise) is over.And none of these spouses have been able to just decide to leave, like in the case of a couple who know that the relationship has come to an end, they have to escape.Now how crazy is that? And if there are children who came with the new spouse, that's even worse for them to get away.Because they want your children.You could get out, but the children are a different kettle of fish altogether.And doesn't it strike anyone as odd, as to why it is mainly the homeless people in the shelter, who are the ones that they pick to marry (legally or otherwise)?And why after sometimes just weeks, or months, that they have to escape.The people at the mission are used as free or cheap labor and the children work also.There are laws in other States against the wrong treatment of children, or human beings in general, but it seems that Albany do not see why they should enforce them, when it comes to the Matlands breaking the law, time and time again. So doesn't that make one wonder perhaps if this is not part of a bigger story.See my link for : imc portland.given below.

NEW BEGINNINGS PART 2.

The people who read this blog and others that I write, might think that I get great enjoyment out of doing this, but to be perfectly honest, it tears my guts out and rips me apart having to go over and over the inhumane treatment that my daughter and her children suffered at the hands of this vile scum who pose as a Pastor and ministers of a church.But perhaps it is nearly worse that it is the local authorities in Albany, Oregon 97321 (let's make sure that there is no doubt as to who I am referring to) who are doing absolutely nothing to get this family put behind bars. If it was anybody else doing just one or two of the crimes that the Matlands do, these people would be locked up and the key thrown away.

Now take the fact that they did worse before in Cave Junction, which is Josephine County and again before that in California. Now can't you see that there is a pattern that has built up,each time the authorities that be, are turning a blind eye, meaning that there has to be a reason.It could be brown envelopes, or could there be something far more sinister going on???? Now at this point, I am only going to refer to Oregon.And in this blog, just for now, let's stick to Albany because this is all going on, or has done, fairly recently and because there is a situation which desperately needs sorting.

My daughter arrived in Albany halfway through 1994 and happened to go into the Thrift Shop owned by the Matlands. Maxine was in there and Andrea broke down in tears as she was looking for an apartment after having travelled with her children an awful long way.Maxine asked her what the matter was and when she heard all that had befallen her before arriving in Oregon, told her that she could rent her an apartment in one of her many properties, which Matlands owned back then.It was a dump, but it was a roof over their heads.George homed in on Andrea, more or less straight away.She was very, very vulnerable then because she had already gone through hell, and George, Maxine and Gale were decent to her and the children and as she was so alone and nobody knew where she was at that time, she was ideal prey for them and their crimes. George Matland wooed her like in an old fashioned way.He behaved in a gentlemanly way for four weeks.Now, she should have copped on as to the strange relationship between his mother and himself, but although she thought it odd, she put it to the back of her mind, because these few weeks were the first time she had been treated OK since arriving in America.She had been divorced, raped, beaten up by a psycho boyfriend, kicked and so on whilst pregnant and strangled, and just to top it off, she had been advised for her own and the children's safety, by the State Police whom were her friends where she lived, that Oregon was a good place to move to. The only thing was that she travelled with a fella who was heavy into religion and they got safely to Oregon and he flipped out mentally and tried to kill her youngest son.Both children got taken into care for one year, but that also was to give her a chance to build up her health as just about everything that could happen, had happened to her.

After a month of knowing George, he asked her to marry him.He told her that he was a minister in the church, that his mother Maxine was the Pastor of the mission and Gale did the books and played the piano for the services.Now, doesn't that sound like a nice little set up?Three loving, christian people helping the homeless, feeding the homeless, clothing the homeless.They nearly sound like saints.Except I missed a bit out. They were robbing the homeless, taking their Food Stamps, robbing their mail which all went to the one PO Box in Albany Post Office,using them as cheap or free labor, their kids as well.And, being homeless, Matlands had all their personal details ,Social Security numbers, and so on,and looked after their medication.And God help anybody complaining about the way they were treated like slaves and kept in conditions that you would not keep a dog in.George and Andrea got married.Maxine performed the ceremony, the people from the shelter attended the service(if you can call it that).

Now you might think that they were being very kind and considerate by keeping her away as much as possible from the people staying in the shelter.It would seem like that at first, but then they kept her away from nearly everyone because they didn't want people to know that she was actually there. It was like a case of out of sight, out of mind.At this point I hasten to add, I had no idea whatsoever that Andrea had had so much happen to her and also that she was living in Albany.I had written to her old address and it was not until the manager of the mail office saw that I had written several times, that he took it upon himself to tell me that Andrea and family no longer lived in that State. I was dumbfounded and couldn't undersatnd why she had not written for a while. To cut a long story short, I made quite a few calls around the States and eventually a very kind operator got curious as to why I was asking for all these different numbers and helped me out as best as he could.Eventually I found out that she was most likely to be in Oregon and just happened to call the one person who actually was able to get into the correct database and even arranged for Andrea to get my call.

When I finally got through to speak to her, George was there and she explained about some of the things that had happened and he acted the part of the new husband and Iwas told about their church mission and so on, and went back home thinking that everything was great.I was delighted that they were church people and helping homeless people and was so pleased that at last she had met a decent family and ones who were serving the Lord.What more could anybody want??? Excuse me whilst I vomit, talk about being a fool. I really believed what they had told me.I even packed up a big box of all the Christmas presents which I had bought for Andrea and the boys and couldn't send over until I had confirmed their address.I actually went and bought presents for the Matlands so that they didn't feel bad when Andrea and family opened their stuff.I sent over an enormous Easter Egg as well in a basket, so that they could all share it.I heard nothing back to say that anything had arrived. I tried phoning, every time it was the same, I'd ask for Andrea, and Maxine would say "Andrea who????" If Gale answered she would chat, and say "call back at" and it was always that she was not home at that time.This was no joke, believe me. I was using a public phone box and as we are in Ireland, we are eight hours ahead of Oregon. Well, that is fine until Matlands keep on making one go up and down to the phone every two or three hours, just messing you around, when here it was often around two or three in the morning and still I would not get put through.On the odd occassion I did get to talk to her, but like has happened to so many other families of people who have had relatives trying to contact them, they cut down on calls more and more, take the mail that they are supposed to be mailing and throw it in the bin, and when there is incoming mail, they take that also. So neither party realizes this until one has heard nothing because you just assume that they are very busy.

I knew that something was very wrong one day when she could hardly speak to me.She sounded like she was spaced out.It was bad enough that one could never talk to her or the children without a Matland sitting beside them and if the conversation got awkward, that Matland would change the question around or suddenly say that the service was starting and so on. Any excuse, they didn't want any outside communication.I don't know why, but I thought that this was some crazy cult type religion, so I thought that if I could find out what religion this was, I would understand better how to deal with these people.I knew that Maxine had a radio slot of 15 minutes long, on the local KWIL 790 fm religious radio station. But I also thought that if I called the local school, I could find out if the children were doing OK.I called the school, and the phone was slammed down saying that they were not allowed to talk to me. Well I admit that I was shocked to say the least, so I thought that I would call the radio station and see what I could find out.Now, no kidding, to this day I have never had such a strange conversation.Don't forget that I just had talked to the school, and had the phone slammed down, so I was not in the best of humour.I dialled the number, a man answered. I simply said that I was asking about Maxine Matland and the radio slot that she had every evening.And all I really wanted to know was what religion she was affiliated with.Now I swear to God that this is what happened.As soon as I had mentioned Maxine Matland, and her radio slot, this man went to pieces and said, "Ma'am ,I do not wish to discuss that woman with you. To be honest I am terrified of her, and I could hear it was as if he was going to cry and he just wanted to get off of the phone.Now after the first call, I was hopping mad, nearly fit to be tied, so I yelled down the phone at him, and told him not to dare put down the phone on me as that had just happened minutes earlier.I made him write down my name and address and told him that all I wanted was to see who her church were worshipping. Then I thought that I would chance it and asked if I could have a copy of one programme as I couldn't pick up their station from Ireland.He said that he couldn't do that as the tapes were her property. He said to me"To be honest ma'am, she owes us thousands and I am to frightened of her to send her the bill as she would come over here , and I don't want that. It is like she walks with a black shadow. " That is honestly what happened.So ,fair enough he had more or less satisfied my curiosity and I told him that I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for this tape or a copy of it, and said goodbye. Four or five days later an envelope came through the door from this radio station.It was from David Winchester, President of the station.It simply said that the man that I had spoken to had voiced his opinion and that it wasn't the opinion of the station. Maxine did not owe them money and her radio slot was still running.Then he added the initials of the group that their radio station standards are geared towards and said that Maxine's talks came just within their boundaries. Fine, or was it? This fool had sent me a copy of their radio programes and times. He must have not realized, as on the back where Maxines programme was, it was all blacked out.So he was lying. Well, he must have caught me on a bad day as I had since found out more that was going on at the mission from people in the area, so I wrote back and told him a few home truths about what he was condoning by sticking up for the Matlands.So he in turn wrote me back another letter, this time threatening to prosecute me, so I answered that one,put him well and truly in his place and sent it to his wife.He shut up after that.That is until a while later when it was killing me with curiosity, as to what this organisation's guidelines that his station followed, actually meant.So I thought that he would not recognise my voice, so I rang the station and a lady came on and I simply just asked her what these Initials stood for and asked for their address. She went to look it up, I thought, but then he came on the phone. He said that his station had nothing to do with this place but instead it was another organisation altogether whose guidlines that they followed.So he proved himself to be a liar twice, and then he suddenly realised that I was the one he had written to, and choked on his words nearly and put the phone down.I should also add that the Democrat Herald had been another place that I had written to and they told me that there had been many complaints about the mission and cheap labour and conditions that these people were living in,to both themselves and the radio station.So I had no doubts whatsoever that there was something very wrong at this place.

And to confirm it even more, I had this feeling one evening that I had to phone the hospital in Albany, but I didn't know why or what I was going to say, but I did anyway. The receptionist answered and I gave Andrea's name and it was as if this woman was continuing my sentence and said,"Yes ma'am, she was brought in fifteen minutes ago, she is in the theater now." Well, I nearly had a coronary and asked her what she was brought in for. The woman said that she was having a C section. I was so shocked that I couldn't for the life of me think what a C section was and I said"But she is pregnant", and the woman said "YES ma'am, that is why she is having a C section. Shall I put you through?" So she did. The baby had just been born, George had just gone to get a cup of tea and Andrea was delighted with herself and telling me all about the birth.George came back into the room, came on the phone and I was saying all about being a proud father, and he said all the right things, and we said our goodbyes. It wasn't until Andrea had escaped from Matlands that I heard what had happened. He had entered the room and seen Andrea on the phone and thought that she had waited for him to leave the room to make a call out. Matlands do not or did not, back then, allow anybody to make calls out to anyone nor to answer the phone for incoming calls.That was just another way of stopping outside contact.Really of course it was me just having a gut feeling to call the hospital. But he had gone mental in the labour room in front of the hospital staff, all because he thought that she had disobeyed their rules and contacted me.You see, Matlands had poisoned her mind so badly convincing her that I was so evil, that no contact was allowed.And as for the big box of presents that I had sent, they had been got rid of. And I had made story books for the children so that hopefully they would remember bits in my stories that would let them know where I lived. They were made to tear these books up and flush them down the toilet.Nothing of mine was kept. And as for what happened to Andrea just weeks prior to the baby being born, is something that you will need to come back to this blog to read, and that will be tomorrow.But I can tell you now, you will find it hard to believe and this is only just the first of many incidents that happened, just on her alone.That is not counting all of the other so called spouses that had to escape, and some with children.You are going to have a job believing it all, and I have hardly scratched the surface on Matland's crimes.Talk to you tomorrow. Here is something I am absolutely certain of: The only reason we're poised to achieve once-in-a-lifetime change in the Senate is because our grassroots - people just like you - have done everything we've asked to give the DSCC all the campaign resources we need to execute our proven campaign plan.

For that, you have my deep, sincere thanks. And if we elect that filibuster-proof majority in November, you'll have the gratitude of an entire nation.

Let me tell you where we stand.

There are 11 battleground states. [OREGON, ALASKA, COLORADO, NEW MEXICO, MINNESOTA, KENTUCKY, NORTH CAROLINA, VIRIGNIA, MISSISSIPPI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, AND MAINE]

And that doesn't even count the five other states just on the horizon that we'll all be talking about on Election Day. Here are just a few examples of the success we're seeing this cycle.

Democrat Tom Udall holds a commanding lead in New Mexico. In fact, just a few days ago we learned that the NRSC canceled its entire $2.3 million television buy here, essentially conceding the race.

The nation's most vulnerable Republican incumbent, John Sununu, trails Democratic ex-Governor Jeanne Shaheen by 11 points.

Even in a Republican stronghold like North Carolina, two recent polls show Democratic State Senator Kay Hagan pulling even with incumbent Republican Elizabeth Dole.

I know that we can make the most of our opportunity this year because we're using the same proven strategy that took back the Senate in 2006. You're helping us frame the terms of each race, respond to every attack, and directly connect with millions of voters to drive them to the polls.

Thanks to your overwhelming support, the DSCC was able to launch TV ads in North Carolina that exposed Dole as the 93rd most effective senator, undercutting her hollow message of experience and results.

In Colorado, Democrat Mark Udall was under siege by $6 million worth of attack ads paid for by shadowy third-party Republican groups. The DSCC rushed to his defense with ads of our own and now Mark has an impressive lead.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, your contributions support a bigger and better version of the sophisticated voter contact strategy that took back the Senate two years ago. Already this year, we've made more 2.5 million phone calls and knocked on 650,000 doors in our battleground states nationwide.

That's just the tip of the iceberg. All told, the DSCC has already spent $28 million of your money to put us in position for a monster November.

2008 Senate Battlegrounds

Alaska
Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich (D) vs. Sen. Ted Stevens (R)

The corruption scandal sweeping through the Alaska Republican Party has put Ted Stevens - a 7-term incumbent - on the brink of losing his seat in November.

Democrat Mark Begich has opened up a lead in the latest polling, but nobody is under any illusion that this race is over. Alaska has always been a Republican stronghold, and with Governor Sarah Palin on the presidential ticket, the party is sure to be energized to turn out in November.

Begich is doing everything necessary to hold on to his lead. He's raising money and reaching out to voters. Just this week he launched a new ad to drive home his commitment to repeal the disastrous No Child Left Behind law.

Stevens won't let a 40-year career end without a fight, so we won't let up for a second before Election Day. With your help, the DSCC will do everything possible to ensure that Mark Begich wins in November.

Colorado
Rep. Mark Udall (D) vs. Rep. Bob Schaffer (R)

Six months ago, this race was neck and neck. Now, Mark Udall leads by 10 points in the latest Denver Post poll.

What happened? First, Bob Schaffer was discovered to have been the recipient of an all-expense paid tropical vacation from a front group for convicted Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Then, it was revealed that when he was vice-president of Aspect Energy, he negotiated an oil deal in Iraq that the State Department officials specifically identified as detrimental to stability in Iraq.

Then there were two different DSCC TV ads paid for by grassroots supporters like you. Our investment here is another key reason Udall enjoys a strong position heading into the stretch run.

Colorado will be a battleground state in November, so we're not taking anything for granted in this race. In fact, Udall has already seen more third-party attack ads than any other Democratic candidate this cycle. It's our job to help him fight back.

Kentucky
Bruce Lunsford (D) vs. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R)

No matter how much money Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell spends, he can't shake the tough challenge posed by Democratic business leader Bruce Lunsford. McConnell is even getting hundreds of thousands of dollars in help from corporate Republican third-party organizations.

None of it is slowing Lunsford, who is on the air with a devastating straight-to-camera indictment of Republican failures in Washington.

Let's be blunt. It's always tough to beat an entrenched incumbent, but Mitch McConnell has been the man responsible for all of those Republican filibusters blocking progress on health care, energy costs, and the housing crisis. It's critical that he is held accountable in November.

Maine
Rep. Tom Allen (D) vs. Sen. Susan Collins (R)

Republican incumbent Susan Collins likes to portray herself as a voice of Republican moderation, but the truth is that she's been a reliable cheerleader for even the worst of George Bush's policies.

Democrat Tom Allen is ready to hold Collins accountable for her record. He has built a formidable campaign organization and has more than $3 million in the bank for the stretch run. He will have the resources to bring his message of change to Mainers.

Allen and the DSCC have both taken to the airwaves to push Allen's proven record of results. This race is poised for a strong finish.

Minnesota
Al Franken (D) vs. Sen. Norm Coleman (R)

The race between Al Franken and Norm Coleman is a dead heat, and the massive TV blitz has begun. Coleman has launched attack ads against Franken, and corporate special interests are blanketing the state against Franken.

That's why the DSCC has unleashed a striking new ad this week that apes a blockbuster movie trailer to make sure that every Minnesota voter knows Norm Coleman is a classic Bush Republican. We think it's pretty terrific and will break through the noise in this race to get a lot of attention from voters. Take a look and see for yourself.

Mississippi
Gov. Ronnie Musgrove (D) vs. Sen. Roger Wicker (R)

The polls in the race for Trent Lott's old seat are just about as close as they can get. Democrat Ronnie Musgrove and interim Senator Roger Wicker have been trading the lead for months.

Make no mistake. Mississippi is top territory for Democrats. But Republicans always do well in the Deep South, so Musgrove is working hard to persuade independent and even Republican voters. Both sides are blitzing the state with TV ads.

What's going to make the difference in this race? You are. Thanks to your support, the DSCC is already running ads in Mississippi to expose Wicker's sordid record. As long as we can count on you along the way, the DSCC will be able to make the investments necessary to win on Election Day.

This is going to be one of those races - like Montana and Virginia in 2006 - where we win by just a few thousand votes. You helped the DSCC make all the difference before and I know we will do it again.

New Hampshire
Gov. Jeanne Shaheen (D) vs. Sen. John Sununu (R)

Jeanne Shaheen is another big target for third-party attacks ads. By our count, seven different groups have spent more than $2.5 million trying to drag Shaheen through the mud.

These groups don't have to disclose their donors, so they can't be held accountable. Instead, the DSCC just has to fight back. With our new ad this week targeting John Sununu's dismal record on supporting funding for Medicare, that's exactly what we're doing.

The DSCC's job is to level the playing field when our candidates are under attack, and it's working in New Hampshire. Shaheen has sustained a strong lead in this race, and John Sununu remains the most vulnerable Republican incumbent in the country.

Still, New Hampshire is another presidential battleground state, and John Sununu has a history of taking advantage of dirty political tricks to win. We can't take a moment off if we're going to elect Jeanne Shaheen.

New Mexico
Rep. Tom Udall vs. Rep. Steve Pearce (R)

Democrat Tom Udall holds a solid lead in the latest polling and has more than five times as much campaign cash on-hand as Steve Pearce.

While Udall continues to connect with voters and run TV ads focused on the middle class squeeze, the NRSC has all but given up in this state. They cancelled a $2.3 million planned ad buy and have essentially told Pearce that he's on his own now.

The Washington Post has called a Udall victory a "done deal" and the venerable political handicapper Charlie Cook has declared that Pearce doesn't have a "fighting chance" in November. Very good news for Democrats.

However, the United States Chamber of Commerce - one of the most reliable Republican attack organizations - didn't get the memo and is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on ads against Udall. We haven't seen much movement in the polls as a result, but the DSCC watches this race every day. You know we'll be ready to support Udall whenever he needs it.

North Carolina
State Sen. Kay Hagan (D) vs. Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R)

Senator Dole is scared. We used to call this the sleeper race of the cycle. Now, it's just another terrific opportunity to pick-up a Republican held seat in one of the most closely-watched races in the country.

After trailing by as many as 12 points in recent months, two new polls give Democrat Kay Hagan a slim lead in this race.

The Republicans are launching a major counter-offensive. Dole fired back with her first negative attack against Hagan this cycle. Even the NRSC is spending some of their meager budget attacking our candidate. They will not go down without a fight.

At the DSCC, we always say we can level the playing field for our challengers facing well-financed incumbents. The race in North Carolina is a perfect example. We'll need your help along the way, but you better believe that we'll do everything in our power to defeat Elizabeth Dole in November.

Oregon
Speaker of the State House Jeff Merkley (D) vs. Sen. Gordon Smith (R)

Oregon remains one of the hottest Senate races in the country. Republican incumbent Gordon Smith is clinging to a single-digit lead despite outspending Democrat Jeff Merkley by a wide margin. In fact, in numbers released Wednesday, Smith scored the highest disapproval rating of his career in the Senate.

It really makes for a strong pick-up opportunity, which is why we've already seen the Republicans' third-party friends taking aim at Merkley. Remember, these organizations don't have to disclose their donors and therefore can't be held accountable for the mud they sling.

Again, one of the keys to Democratic victory in this state will be a strong and vibrant investment by the DSCC. We've known Oregon would be a strong pick-up opportunity months ago and we have been airing TV ads statewide week after week since May.

In our latest spot, we are directly responding to Smith's claims last week that he's a strong opponent of the war in Iraq. The DSCC immediately launched a new ad reminding Oregonians that no matter what he says now, Smith supported George Bush's failed Iraq policy for 1,518 days.

In 58 days, we can show Gordon Smith just what we think about that and send him packing. When you make a contribution, winning states like Oregon is exactly where your money goes.

Virginia
Gov. Mark Warner (D) vs. Gov. Jim Gilmore (R)

Mark Warner has maintained a strong, double-digit lead in the polling in this race, and it's easy to see why.

Warner has more than $5 million in campaign cash on hand. Gilmore is nearly broke. Warner has been running TV ads emphasizing his bipartisan record of accomplishment. Gilmore has been reduced to sleazy personal attacks.

My wife and I are both in our 20's, democrats, and an active LDS church memeber. I would really like to orgainze an event for LDS members who support Obama, but I am not sure how to go about doing it. If anyone out there would like to help me out, let me know. I have a house and a big backyard we could use. I am very into politics and would like to be more active but just not sure how. Anyone interested in getting together? I live in SE Portland.

How To Write Letters To The Editor

Letters to the editor are great advocacy tools. They reach a large audience. They are often monitored by elected officials. They can bring up information not addressed in a news article. And they can create an impression of widespread opposition or support to an issue or candidate. Over the years, I have written many letters to the editor, about four-fifths of which have been published. I am often asked for tips on how to write a good letter to the editor (LTE). The first thing I tell people is to remember that, depending on the newspaper, between only ten and twenty-five percent of letters get printed. Therefore, it is important for writers not to give up if your first attempt does not get printed. Newspaper editors tend to publish letters that:

Are the best single expression of what many people wrote in to say
Make some point exceedingly well
Bring a unique perspective to an issue
Are responding to agree, or to respectfully disagree, to a published LTE, or Opinion-Editorial (OpEd)
Are signed by some prominent person
Are concise and to the point, without rambling or meandering
Are without swearing or other vitriolic language

Every day the news offers us many topics on which to comment. When deciding to write a LTE in order to comment on a current event, timeliness is crucial. Try to submit your letter within two days of the event to have the best chance of your letter being published. The same holds true for responses to published LTEs or OpEds. Waiting a month to write and submit your letter responding to another author’s opinion makes it very unlikely your letter will be published. Timeliness is less crucial when writing a LTE in support of a candidate or issue. Nevertheless, waiting until ten days before an election to write your LTE in support of a particular candidate or issue makes it more likely your letter will get lost in the crowd. Be one of the first, and you are much more likely to be published. Some stylistic tips which are useful to remember:

Start your letter with “Dear Letters To The Editor”
Clearly address the topic on which you are writing within the first sentence or two. Most readers (nor editors) lack the patience to wade through a bunch of extraneous words to reach your point.
If you are responding to a previously published LTE or OpEd, clearly refer to it in the first one or two sentences. (“In response to John Smith’s editorial published January 1st, …”)
If you are writing to disagree with a previously published piece, briefly state the argument you’re rebutting in the first one or two sentences. A lengthy rehash only leaves you with fewer words to make your case, and may cause the reader to remember instead the opinion you’re rebutting.
Make one concise, easy to follow argument. Attempting to make too many points weakens all of them.
If you are responding as a “person of authority” (such as a teacher responding to an article about education reform), mention your profession very early in your letter.
Don’t be afraid to let some passion, and some poetry, show through.
Don’t be shrill, or abusive. No personal attacks. Stifle the urge to use juvenile name-calling. Such techniques just about guarantee your efforts at getting published will have been wasted.
Use facts, figures, and expert testimony whenever possible.
Close your letter with a short restatement of your position, a “take home message” for the reader. Try to end memorably, tying your concerns to the concerns of other readers when possible.
Proofread your letter carefully for errors in punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Editors will usually edit to correct such mistakes, but your work is more likely to be published if already “clean”.
Read your letter to a friend or spouse, for objective input.
Read your letter from the reader’s perspective. Will the arguments make sense to someone without a special background on this issue? Did you use technical terms unfamiliar to the average reader?
Put the letter aside overnight. Rereading your letter in the fresh light of a new day often helps you to spot stilted language and errors in reasoning, and allows for the possibility of new and better phrasing.

And, finally, a few tips on etiquette:

Do not exceed the newspaper’s stated word-limit.
Always include your name, address, and day-time phone number at the end of the piece. The newspapers will not publish this information. Editors are on guard about fake identities, and sometimes will wish to contact writers personally to confirm authorship before publishing.
When emailing your letter in to the newspaper, put “LTE” or “Letter To The Editor” in the subject line.
Patience is a virtue. The typical turnaround time for a submitted letter to be published is 3 to 10 days. If your letter has not appeared within 2 weeks, it is unlikely to have been chosen. Do not attempt to call or repetitively email the editors to “check on” your letter; this will only decrease your letter’s chance of being published.

Opening the Office in Corvallis

Corvallis welcomed its very own Campaign for Change office to town last Saturday, August 9th, at 223 NW 2nd St. Local supporters were on hand to celebrate the opening and gear up for the march to November. Both volunteers from the Oregon Primary and first timers alike listened to Organizer Eric Litmer discuss the plan for getting out Senator Obama's message of change across Corvallis and the neigboring towns and counties.

After introductions and a meet-and-greet session, supporters took to their neighborhoods in a canvass effort, knocking on doors and talking to voters about why they support Barack Obama. Others signed up for phonebanking slots, voter registration drives, and future Campaign for Change activities taking place across Oregon.

There are many ways to help out and become a part of this movement. Perhaps the most important thing supporters can do now is register their friends and family to vote in Oregon. It only takes a minute to register, and building the foundation of possible voters it is one of the most crucial ways folks can help Senator Obama here in Oregon. Click here to get involved. Oregon Credentials to the 2008 Democratic National Convention

OREGON OBAMA CAMPAIGN ANNOUNCES DRAWING FOR ADDITIONAL COMMUNITY CREDENTIALS FOR NATIONAL CONVENTION

Oregon’s community credential recipients to attend fourth night acceptance speech at Democratic National Convention in Denver.
PORTLAND, OR – Today, the Oregon Obama campaign announced plans for distribution of additional community credentials for the fourth night, August 28th, of the 2008 Democratic National Convention at INVESCO Field at Mile High in Denver, CO.

“We are thrilled to be able to give Oregonians from across the state the opportunity to attend America’s convention and to witness Barack Obama’s historic acceptance of the Democratic nomination for President of the United States,” said Rob Hill, Oregon State Director for the Obama Campaign.

“One of the best ways we can introduce Oregon voters to our campaign and to our vision for this country is by getting them involved in the Convention,” said Obama for America National Co-Chair Federico Peña. “We are delighted that these community credentials are being allocated to the state. It will allow Oregonians of all parties who want to take a look and listen to our message of hope the chance to do so in person.”

Due to the limited number of credentials, Obama for Oregon and the Campaign for Change will be conducting a drawing to distribute available credentials to Oregonians who register between August 6th and August 12th by visiting any one of the Campaign for Change offices across the state or by calling the Oregon Campaign for Change headquarters at 503-236-2008. Walk-in and telephone entries will be taken from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm daily, between the 6th and 12th of August. No entries will be taken after 9:00 pm on Tuesday, August 12th. For entry into the drawing, all callers must answer questions on how they logistically plan to get to Denver. Requests will then be entered into the drawing for distribution of credentials.

On Wednesday, August 13th, the Oregon Campaign for Change will notify individuals via phone that they have been selected to receive community credentials. Individuals who are not selected for credentials will remain on a waiting list in case slots become available. The Campaign for Change will set up distribution centers across Oregon for community credential pick-up.

It's an old fashion POTLUCK and it's BYOB - bring your own BBQ meats, beverages and beach chairs.

Congressional Senate Candidate, Jeff Merkley is a special guest and will talk one-on-one with picnickers as a key stop in the Tualatin/Tigard community part of his 100 Towns Tour for Change across Oregon. Wake up, Dorothy! We need to hit the yellow brick road again and canvass, phonebank and register new voters! With less than 100 days left till the election, it's time to start getting fired up and ready to go again! Today, in Medford, OR, we wrapped up a weekend of canvassing, phonebanking and voter registration. I admit, the results aren't what they were during the frezied month of May (just before the primary). But, it's necessary to start building momentum again for the road ahead. I want to thank everyone who came out and helped! It was great to see new faces and old friends! I'll see everyone tomorrow night for the Barack Birthday potluck meeting! Thanks again! Jeff Merkley is a special guest and will talk one-on-one with picknickers as a key stop in the Tualatin/Tigard community as part of his 100 Towns Tour for Change across Oregon. Merkley leads Gordon Smith in the latest poll conducted by Rasmussen Reports for the hotly contested US Senate seat while another internal poll shows Merkley surging ahead by 11 points among voters who could rate both candidates.

Rep. Larry Galizio (Tigard) is the key note speaker along with Lupita Maurer from WashCoDems tentatively committed. Local candidates Jeff Barker (Aloha), Jessica Adamson (Sherwood/ Wilsonville) and Ron Morgan, Field Organzier from WashCoDems will also be attending.

The event following on the heels of the the Annual Tualatin Crawfish Festival a week prior serves up a fun relaxing afternoon with Obama and Democrat supporters from all over Washington County. Children will enjoy the new sandpit playground with decorative gym climbs, and a scenic viewing area overlooking the beautiful Tualatin River. Beaverton and the Campaign For Change

Last Thursday, Beaverton welcomed the Campaign for Change to Washington county with the official office opening potluck. Over 300 supporters stopped by to take part in the festivities and find out how they could help bring real change to their community and make Barack Obama the next President of the United States. Field Organizers Caleb Hayes and Alejandro Hoekstra have been hard at work engaging with the community in voter registration drives for several weeks, and the opening part gave supporters a chance to hear how the Campaign is active in Washington county and across Oregon.

Supporter Astrid Harmon describes the event: "People from all backgrounds came to celebrate and over 100 signed up to volunteer. The excitement and enthusiasm even translated to the street, where hundreds of cars honked and gave a thumbs up to the Obama volunteers waving signs."

The crowd listened as special guests State Senator Suzanne Bonamici and State Representative Larry Galizio spoke.

Eugene is Fired Up and Ready for Change

Last Thursday, Campaign for Change offices opened their doors across Oregon. Amongst the five new Campaign offices that hosted potlucks that day was Eugene’s own.

Staff, Fellows, and volunteers welcomed over 500 supporters into the space at 150 West Broadway . The festivities showed the sort of energy and community that Obama supporters across Oregon bring to this Campaign for Change, the sort of energy that will undoubtedly continue all the way up to November 4th.

Local supporters came and shared in the potluck, and listened to special guests State Senator Floyd Prozanski and Susan Castillo, State Superintendent of Public Instructions. The event was capped off when supporters were invited to dip their hands in white paint and make their mark on the Hope Wall. This personalized touch symbolized how the Campaign for Change is a part of supporters, and they a part of it. These dedicated volunteers are what makes this Campaign unique, and their work, and the work of folks across Oregon, is the instrument that will bring Change to Washington.

Grand Opening: Oregon City, OR Headquarters

Last night, five of six Oregon state headquarters opened. I attended the Oregon City event. It was wonderful! The did a great job of setting up a beautiful office (see the before and after pics on link below) with sign ups at the entry, a Volunteer Raffle to sign up for, pictures with a Barack Obama standee, and delicious treats. It was a warm evening, so the cool beverages were also welcome :) Everyone did a marvelous job of meeting each other and introducing themselves. We were greeted by the DNC office and we learned that the county had just turned BLUE! Also learned that Oregon voter reg #s were in for June and there were 10,000 Democrat and 400 Republican! Rob Hill was in attendance to speak and it was wonderful to meet him.

We have a HOME, yeah! However there is much work that needs to be done and we NEED your HELP URGENTLY!

Calling the Obama calvary...What do you need you ask? How Can I help? What What What???

First, review the NEEDS WISH LIST below. Our first priority is LASER Printers with their corresponding TONER CARTRIDGES. Next, desk, chairs and shelves; and a large refrigerator in excellent condition should be sufficient for the office needs. Also at the top of the list is rolls of butcher paper, and red, white and blue poster paints to make many, many posters! We'll take any custom or homemade Obama posters that we can hang on the wall, too.

Starting today, Friday, here is where you can help (and spread the word out to the Oregon Obama community). We need lots of volunteers to help set up and organize the office, everything from cleaning, setting up desks, filing cabinets, shelves and office furniture. Getting computers online, organizing and stocking the office, kitchen and maintenance supplies, in addition to a supply/storage room, even making posters.

We will accept any and all donations or contributions, bring in whatever you have on hand especially office supplies. Again, refer to the Needs Wish List below! Someone will be at the office to accept donations everyday from 10am-9pm.

As a reminder as well, if you're able to, make it a point to bring along lots of SNACKS, FOOD, and BEVERAGES to feed our hard working volunteers, fellows and Field Leaders every time you come to the Obama office. They will appreciate it very very much!

Finally we’ll need many, many volunteers to make phone calls starting Sunday to get the word out about the new office. We'll concentrate on outfitting the office with everything we need and get the word out to our network of supporters throughout Washington County and city of Portland.

We're back in business Obama peeps, we're taking it to the streets and we're not stopping until we get BARACK OBAMA in the White House right! I am a senior at West Albany High School in Albany, Oregon. I am excited to finish my last year of high school and move on into the big world. One big part of my life right out of high school like many others striving for the "American Dream", is college.

I was blessed enough to have grandparents who graciously started a college trust fund for me years ago. I have always made sure to thank them for this more than amazing gift they have given to me. Over the years my college fund has grown by thousands of dollars each year; late last year the fund was just over $90,000.

Here is where the story twists; due to President Bush's policies my college fund has lost over $10,000, just this year! There are now over 10,000 more reasons for me to support Barack Obama, and 10,000 reasons to do everything in my power to make sure John McCain does not win in November.

I know that I cannot afford another four devastating years of the same economic policies as Bush. I am confident there are millions of other American's that cannot afford it either. Stop Bush-McCain policies so that once again we may prosper.

To McCain: My $10,000 is not part of some "mental recession", this is proof of you and Bush's failed economic policies. I think I speak for the American people when we say, we are in a recession, and us, the American people will do everything we can to make sure Barack Obama is the next President of the United States of America!

I will donate today, and as I do, I will remember all of my fellow American's suffering from Bush and McCain's terrible policies. Donate today for our future! YES WE CAN!
