Media deception and Injustice

When we as a people can not trust our media sources to tell us the facts, the truth, our democracy is in danger.

How can we vote intelligently when we don't get the truth to make a good decision from ? We Can't.

There is no danger worse than the control of our media by big corporate interests. There is no danger worse for US as a 'Democratic Country"

It is a perilous path to try to fix this problem without risking 'free speech'....but to pass a law that makes it illegal to tell or repeat lies, or to give slanted news, with penalities is the only way I can see to prevent the downward spiral that we seem to be headed for.

The radio and television stations are using public airwaves to promote private opinions....they should be made to call them opinions and not news then..

FOX, IS IT NEWS?

Journalist Jeff Greenfield responded to the ongoing battle from the media this week, when reporting, that the FOX NEW’S DEPARTMENT is being accused of being the research and communication’s arm of the Republican Party. He also says that “. . . Fox’s bottom-line has increased 13% since Obama came into office. So perhaps they are crying all the way to the bank”.

Obama accuses Fox News as appearing “to be more like a talk show format and not a news format”.

There is no question that the Rupert Murdoch owned conglomeration’s opinions predominately favor the far Right Republican agenda. So when the White House decides not to give more fuel to Fox’s perceived negativity and refuses to be on their programs, is this an exercise of free speech? On the other hand, is it an exercise in futility? The points of views coming from the White House will be interpreted as the voice of the Obama Administration no matter what the administration representative says when they appear on FOX. Being fair however, MSNBC has been called the most left in their presentation of Obama’s opinions. So to whom do we listen for the “true news story”? Nevertheless, who would that be?

Where do we find a news source that is truly balanced? Personally, I find I have to listen to them all and weigh what seems “logical”, but I was taught in journalism school and at the LA TIMES that politics are highly hinged in “manipulating emotions and the illusion”.

agree with Robert Borosage's article in the Huffington Post that the Democratic Party has been very docile and passive throughout this entire process. That includes the Democratic supporters. (i.e.: US)
I haven't been a Democrat for very long. In fact, I have been a registered Independent for 17 years. I switched my party affiliation so that I could vote for President Obama during the Primary Election. But during the past election, I began to read about Senator Obama, watch the Primary Debates, and then I decided to read his books. After reading both of them, I realized that he stood for all of the things that I did, and believed as I did that there had to be common ground. To some degree, I still do believe that. But what I think has happened is that the FAR right has been able to circumvent any logical discussion about this subject - by using scare tactics (like death panels, illegal immigrants getting free healthcare) they have placed doubts in the minds of normally very rational people.
My parents are two of these people that the Right Wing have been able to frighten with their fear-mongering tactics. It is very sad, and also disappointing when you see this happen to otherwise intelligent people. It also really makes me angry. Angry at the President for not taking charge of his own party, angry at the Democratic Party for their lack of a cohesive discussion regarding this matter, and anger at all of US, the people who got the President to where he is right now. Just because he's in the White House doesn't mean he can govern effectively without OUR SUPPORT and OUR voices. But I am THE MOST ANGRY at the media, for not addressing the real problems. The uninsured, the people whose claims are rejected for whatever reason the insurance companies decide to give them. The media is being completely irresponsible by not covering the real issues. Even the respected channels are starting to act like cheesy tabloid programs. It's embarassing.
We really need to stop talking about doing something, and we NEED TO DO SOMETHING instead. If we don't mobilize, and organize like we did during the election, The President will not be able to move forward with his agenda. HE NEEDS OUR SUPPORT. We need to march, we need to protest outside of the opponent's offices. We need to go to Phone banks, and we need to call all of the people that voted for the President and his Health are Reform Plan.

The WH released a myth busters website.......What Obama should do is concede he needs a little help from his friends.....Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Howard Dean, Mike Bloomberg, Warren Buffet and other Business Leaders and even the Kennedys to get the word out and deal with the fires.

What I Wrote to Rachel Maddow

Dear Rachel--Please cover the bill reintroduced (originally put forward in 2007) in Ohio to give "fathers" the final authority over a woman's right to have an abortion. You have to read the bill to believe how invasive and repugnant the thinking is behind this latest maneuver to control women, women's sexuality, and women's rights.

You're it, Rachel. You are the only journalist who can unpack the full meaning of this legislation. Although I'm not sure I can trace the shortest line between these two dots, I'm betting that the zeitgeist operating here is linked to the reason Ohio is a "surrogate-friendly" state when other states have proscribed surrogacy either entirely or robustly. You have the staff and the smarts to get this story right, Rachel. Please cover it ad nauseum! We women need you to get the facts, smack the facts in the public's face, and then wind it all up with your signature "skewer with a smile."

I should tell you that I'm not the pleading type. I'm the leading type and I started this group, Feminist Advisory Board for Obama. But lately I find that I'm writing to high-profile women practically begging them to speak for women because the mainstream media will only listen to a measly quota of notables from the female sex. On the boob tube, on primetime, on almost every night, you're it, Rachel. You're the only person with the chops, intelligence, historicity, fact-finding staff and nifty graphics get-up to do what needs to be done here.

Ramifications of Homeschooling

Hello,

My name is Doris Anne Beaulieu. I have a website-Life’s Ultimate Test dot com-on which you can learn more about my mission to change the face of home schooling.

I attended a parochial school as a child in the 1950's. In this Catholic school I was sheltered from the realities of the world around me-from swearing, from public displays of affection, from slang. These are often some of the same things that modern home schooling parents aim to protect their children from. A superior court judge said " In today’s threatening world, we seek to protect children from abuse, not just physical, but also educational abuse." This protection however often leaves behind a naiveness to the surrounding world the children must eventually enter.

Children need to be exposed to real life. Parents should as a family, talk about the world openly so children may not only learn that the world holds cruelness, but so they can gain knowledge from their parents experience and guidance for adulthood.

Playing with other children, a basic aspect of childhood was something we were unable to do because of the lack of seeing children outside of their family. Home schooled kids face the same consequences. A child who hasn’t efficiently learned how to deal with childhood conflict can not deal with adult conflict.

A child could become an active member of an organization that offers compromising skills. Be it girl scouts, boy scouts or some form of sports in their community. Anything of this nature would improve the outcome.

In my school, we spent most of the day praying- in church and in class. Who is to say in home schooling the children are receiving a full education which I even lacked in a parochial school? The same judge mentioned before also said " how can we not monitor the educational welfare of all of our children?" There should be a system, of more than just suggestions, to guarantee the children are being educated. This system should also lack so much variance from state to state.

More of my personal experience can be found in my book The Torments of the Modest Secluded Farm Life and it’s screenplay "Broken Souls." I hope, through my experience, I can soon make a difference for children facing similar situations.

Newspapers want the government's help

Dear Senator Klobuchar,

I heard you speak on CSPAN last night regarding the newspapers who want a variance on antitrust laws so they can collude and all charge for their content at the same time.

I loved hearing the story about your father's career as a journalist. And I fear that this very romantic idea of the newspaper industry will cloud your judgment.

The mainstream media at one time felt obligated to serve the public interest. Let's not forget that that's an old idea. We are way beyond journalists serving the public interest. Media serves their board of directors who want access to powerful people and profits, period.

Remember Judith Miller, the New York Times and the Iraq War? How much has this cost Americans in lives, money, wasted resources, wasted time? The costs to us, U.S., have been enormous, and we're still paying for it. Everytime I read the New York Times, I remember that. It's deep within me. I want to love the New York Times, but Judith Miller is in the forefront of my mind everytime I look at it. Because it's cost our country so much, as in the lives of U.S. troops (and innocent Iraqis), less money to educate our kids, no political will to change healthcare, and kept us in an oil economy instead of moving to a 21st century green economy. These newspapers serve special interests. Take the global warming issue, I would say that mainstream media has been largely responsible for keeping the idea that global warming isn't anything to be concerned about alive.

These are issues that effect the life of our species, whether we are to survive or go extinct. Very serious, yet, newspapers (and mainstream media as a whole) have not allowed us to have a serious debate that would actually inform the public in a way that allows the political will to develop to make the change we need. We should have moved to a green economy back in the 1980s. February 15, 2009 George Will's column in the Washington Post distorted facts about global warming to say it's not man-made. I mean, is it ever going to end? Not if our government gives them the tools to continue to support this garbage. Garbage into the public will get you more garbage from the public because these kinds of acts keep the public confused and that's not good for making change.

Also, it appears that many of their so-called journalists reporting on the financial sector may have been planting stories for the purpose of stock manipulation. And during the Obama campaign, the so-called journalists would ask the dumbest questions because they seem to be more interested in creating conflict (where one didn't exist) than going deep into the issues and facilitating a real discussion of them between the newsmakers and the public. Huffington Post is a good example of how to do this differently. CSPAN also had very good election coverage.

When reading these so-called journalists, one has to be very careful to read everything very critically. I wish that when I read an article online, that I could mouse-over the article to get a pop-up window that would also report on the journalist's past articles and their pattern of reporting so that I can clearly see if they've been reporting fairly, or if they've been reporting to support a special interest. For instance, how about CNBC and the stock market? How about Bloomberg and the subprime mortgage meltdown? All these so-called journalists were banging the drum for free markets and deregulation. Now they want to change the laws because they're losing money. Is this fair to the greenshoots like Huffington Post? Is it fair to the public?

The issues and the way reports are slanted to serve special interests (and advertisers) is obvious and it's the norm these days.

If the newspapers are failing, it's because they haven't managed themselves wisely. It's because they have a bad board of directors and bad leadership. It's because they bought into the idea that markets only go up and they unwisely took on more debt than they can now handle. Yes, it's about survival now, but I say that they have not served the public interest. In fact, they have played a huge role in the destruction of our economy.

They are concerned only with profit and to weaken antitrust laws would hurt the public interest.

You know what really gets me about all this? The argument that the newspapers are using could also be used for the Employee Free Choice Act. That a single employee doesn't have much leverage, but if all employees can organize, they then have the leverage needed to make the corporations play fair. But if you were to investigate where these newspapers (who are corporate entities) stand on unions, I'm sure they would think it's ok for corporations to organize, but it's not ok for individual people, say working at Walmart to organize. I would guess that if you were to study their reporting on Employee Free Choice Act, you would see a bias for corporations like Walmart and against unions like UAW, etc. It's disgusting. Where has the point of view of labor and unions been in the mainstream media over the last 30 years? Certainly not in the newspapers, unions and labor don't have a seat at the table as is reflected in the bulging bags of cash the CEOs have compared to the stagnated salaries, 50% loss of value of 401Ks, and loss of homes of ordinary Americans.

So please, leave your romantic ideas about your father's career at the door when considering the interests of the newspapers versus the public interest. Let the market decide regarding the newspapers. Our government already allows media to organize into huge conglomerates that serve special interests against the public interest, why give them any more power? Let the market decide if they pass or fail. Let the new greenshoots like the Huffington Post have their chance to grow in the market. We can have a bright future if only our government will support and nurture the greenshoots that really do serve the public interest.

The public needs a media that we can trust to serve our interest. To support entities whose bad practices have contributed largely to our current economic disaster is not change I can believe in. Please, do not give the likes of Rupert Murdoch and his Fox News Empire any more power. They are killing our country and we need to move on.

It's time for change Senator. Please, let it happen.

Film and video documentaries are beginning to roll out regarding the Bush years of echoing continuous threats to our livelihoods if we didn’t adhere, allow and fellow our vice assistant leader Dick Cheney and his chief adviser on torture assistant Mr. John Yoo, (John can recalled here and here to refresh your memories).

The latest and most popular is entitled “Torturing Democracy” and has been awarded the RFK Journalism Award, where the awards committee calls the film “The definitive broadcast account of a deeply troubling chapter in recent American history”.

Washington, DC - Today, the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights announced that “Torturing Democracy” has won a Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for domestic television and is a finalist for the grand prize. Produced and written by eight-time Emmy winner and National Security Archive fellow Sherry Jones, the RFK Center called the documentary film on the Bush administration’s interrogation and detention policies “the definitive broadcast account of a deeply troubling chapter in recent American history.”

I follow TIME online reverently for stories concerning TIME’s view on our changing society, so of course I subscribe to their RSS feed.

Last night the following headliner came in from TIME with their title being: “Denny’s: Where The Food Is Free, and Drunks Can Pee”. This is disturbing to me; here’s a restaurant chain prospering and doing a good job of it, while providing food to those who may be homeless at this time or those who could go homeless soon and they’re being criticized by a somewhat elitist magazine.

I’ve never grasp the fact that “all who are homeless, are alcoholics” or those that are only poor always participate in promotions, such as offered by Denny’s. Most of the time for me, it’s been to the contrary, where the rich I’ve had the pleasure to know, sit at home and clip coupons for the supermarkets and restaurants they chose to shop and dine at.

Here’s my point:

Times are economically difficult, so we should all search for values and reward outlets with our businesses that are smart and adaptable to the country’s needs.
The days of big money spenders are either at an end or coming to an end, so businesses had better learn to repackage their goods and/or services in a very competitive market. After all, look what’s transpired in the auto industry.
Most of all “STOP” profiling, boxing and grouping people who have difficult time defending themselves in the media.

I recently responded to a Washington Post article on the Pledge Project effort. What struck me is the difference in how folks measure success. The article describes the Pledge Project effort as "lame" and "sputtering" yet a budget supporting a sustainable approach to energy, education and health care passed with some pretty good numbers.

But, another point was more compelling to me. The fact that citizens are engaging in their government seems overwhelmingly positive to me, whether that is 1000 people or 1,000,000. Public opinion seems to be aligned on the fact that the power of the few governing our country is not working well.

Communications, the FCC, and the Public Interest

How is it that most of the "media" are owned by a frightenly small number of corporate entities? Television stations, radio stations, newspapers, magazines, movies, publishers, cable companies, etc. Think Time-Warner, then Turner, then Fox, then … who …?

Do I remember correctly that there used to be laws to protect the public against monopolistic control of the news? Doesn't "freedom of the press" mean freedom from hidden distortion due to corporate control, as well as freedom from distortion due to government control? We all know that there is a lot of corporate control of government, per se, but must there be a lot of corporate control of public information about government?

Many newspapers and local television stations are struggling to survive at all. Given the internet and a rush of technological innovations in communications, a revolution is inevitable in how we are informed about what is happening, especially in our government. Really good journalists are wondering who or what (if anyone or anything) they will be working for 5-10 years from now. In addition to PBS and NPR and CSPAN and the BBC, what is there to ensure public access to reasonably trustworthy news and discussion and commentary?

Could we somehow use this really-big-the-economy-affects-and-is-affected-by-everything crisis to fix the FCC, lest those who think the Rush Limbaughs and Bill O'Reillys of this country give them all the truth and interpretation of the truth that they need to guide their votes in the next election?

I ran accross the 3/15/09 60 Minutes show online, http://beta.sling.com/video/show/130320/87/60-Minutes,-031509, and I find the show pretty interesting, though Bernanke doesn't go through the entire history of the FRS. (I won't go through all of it here, but there are plenty of links and sources about the full story, if you're willing to know. Remember, Woodrow Wilson regretted creating the FRS).

About Bernanke's policies, though, IMO, he's either fooling himself or he's a pretty shrewd actor, as he seems emotionless throughout the piece (or it could be the editing).

I am, to use an old slang phase, a WASP! I did not elect to be nor am a shamed to be labeled this phase, but my today’s gripe regards a well subscribed to online political news source, which I subscribe to named “Politico”.

Several days ago, a story published by Politico was posted entitled: “Blacks, whites hear Obama differently”, which I deem out of place for a News Service. I subscribe to Politico for factual news that’s happening in our local, state and federal government and not about an opinion that could cause another point of contention in our already troubling political environment taking place in Washington.

Edward R. Murrow expounded on the dangers of television on society, so why should it be any different for journalists on the Internet? Should an individual care to voice their opinion or thoughts on racism, there are numerous website to subscribe to.

On his pre-inaugural visit to Ben’s Chili Bowl, a landmark for Washington’s African-American community, President Barack Obama was asked by a cashier if he wanted his change back.

“Nah, we straight,” Obama replied.

The phrase was so subtle some listeners missed it. The reporter on pool duty quoted Obama as saying, “No, we’re straight.”

But many other listeners did not miss it. A video of the exchange became an Internet hit, and there was a clear moment of recognition among many blacks, who got a kick out of their Harvard-educated president sounding, as one commenter wrote on a hip-hop site, “mad cool.”

On matters of racial identity, many observers in the African-American community say he benefits from what’s known as “dog-whistle politics.” His language, mannerisms and symbols resonate deeply with his black supporters, even as the references largely sail over the heads of white audiences.

This is part of the reason that as a candidate, Obama won intense support among African-Americans while never being branded, in the fashion of a Jesse Jackson, as a candidate defined by race.

In January remarks about the economy, Obama made a reference to “American dreams that are being deferred,” a phrase black audiences understood without a citation as black poet Langston Hughes’. First lady Michelle Obama often cites her upbringing in the “South Side of Chicago.” On Election Night, the winner promised that “we as a people will get there,” an echo of Martin Luther King Jr. made more powerful by not expressly invoking King’s name.

Or a year ago in South Carolina, when he tried to swat down the persistent rumors that he is Muslim. “They try to bamboozle you, hoodwink you,” Obama said that night, in what many listeners heard as an unmistakable reference to activist Malcolm X, as portrayed in Spike Lee’s movie.

“All of us knew that he was referencing Malcolm X, and when he said it, the reaction was instantaneous,” said William Jelani Cobb, a professor at Spelman College who specializes in black history and politics.

Dog-whistle politics was hardly invented by Obama. One of its most deft practitioners lately was President George W. Bush. He regularly borrowed the language of evangelical Christianity and the anti-abortion movement to signal he was simpatico with their beliefs, even as he often avoided obvious displays of support that might turn off middle-of-the-road voters.

“The code words matter, how you dress matters, how you speak matters; it’s all subliminal messaging, and all politicians use it,” said Michael Fauntroy, an assistant professor of public policy at George Mason University, who specializes in race and American politics. “Ronald Reagan used to talk about making America the shining city on a hill, which is about America as divinely inspired, and it has a deep vein in the evangelical conservative movement. It goes on all the time, and there are so many circumstances when only the target people get the message.”

But Fauntroy said the stakes were higher for Obama, who had to “deracialize himself.”

John McWhorter, a linguist at the conservative Manhattan Institute, said that he believes that in Obama’s case coded messaging, which can be a matter of words, sound or grammar or all of them, is partly conscious because “he knows it arouses black audiences.”

“Black English, especially the cadence, is becoming America’s youth lingua franca, especially since the mainstreaming of hip-hop. Its sound conveys warmth, authenticity and a touch of seductive danger not only to blacks but many whites, especially ones below about 50,” McWhorter said. “Obama’s tapping into that cadence helped win him the election. Imagine John Kerry or Hillary Clinton saying, ‘Yes, we can!’ It would have sounded phony — only in what I call a ‘black-cent’ can it sound prophetic and arousing.”

“The connection that Barack Obama has to the black community and the connection George Bush has to the evangelical community began long before they began running for president. It was a natural and deep connection, politics aside,” Fleischer said. “When they became candidates, it was a powerful, strong bond that created a base for both people. … But genuine speech with conviction has tremendous power, and there always is a tendency for the base to hear the deeper message and say, ‘That was sweet. He’s talking to me.’”

Bush used phrases lifted from church hymns and the Bible to signal an affinity for like-minded Christians. The phrase “culture of life,” became part of the political lexicon when Bush used it weeks before the 2000 election — it was a less political, more evangelical version of “pro-life.”

Bush also recognized that he had to tread carefully with his evangelism — keeping his most loyal voters satisfied, even if following through on policy initiatives might be difficult.

As for Obama, an aide declined to talk about whether it was a matter of strategy.

Beyond speech, blacks have picked up certain of Obama’s mannerisms, particularly his walk, that signal authenticity. Bush had his cowboy strut, and Obama has a swagger — a rhythmic lope that says cool and confident and undeniably black. It was most noticeable on his first post-election trip to the White House, some said.

“The swagger was out of control, dragging the left foot, it was like, ‘Barack, you have got to calm down,’” said Melissa Harris-Lacewell, a Princeton University professor who teaches courses in politics and black studies. “The swagger thing just got worse and worse during the campaign. … I am sure David Axelrod told him to stop swaggering. … I can’t imagine that anyone is telling him to do that.”

“In those circumstances, it is his blackness kind of squishing out of the edges. It’s not the same thing as deploying it like Bush did, but it has the same effect … solidifying his base of black folks,” she said.

Yet the question remains as to how far style or even swagger can take Obama among black people, without matching policies seen as beneficial to the black community.

“The swagger goes a long way for Barack, a long way,” Harris-Lacewell said, adding that the black support will mean a boost in polls. “Black people were strong supporters of Clinton because of race. … If it works for someone who is just symbolically for the black president, it will be very powerful for the actual black president.”

Notably, Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele has used phrases recently like “bling bling” to describe the stimulus package and “off the hook” to describe the new RNC outreach plans, at a time when he is trying to step up the party’s appeal to African-American voters.

Beyond stylistic gestures, Obama has made several overtures to the black press since winning in November. His first print interview as president-elect was given to Ebony and his first print interview as president was given to Black Enterprise. And at his first press conference, journalists from the black press were given prime seating — yet weren’t called on for questions.

Strategy or not, Obama’s efforts will likely continue, some said, and so far have helped.

“I think that the combination of his style and his swagger and his connection to the various currents of culture make him seem like a man who is much younger than he is,” Cobb said. “But the genius with Obama is that he is fluent in it, so it doesn’t come off as a deliberate kind of doling out of references or points. It winds up to being to his benefit politically.”

A friend of mine is frustrated with the lack of accuracy in media. 24-hour cable news/talk is interested more in sensationalism and entertainment than in providing "need to know" information. And it's hard to define what people really "need to know" in order to make decisions!

Here's what she said:

"The real problem with this discussion is that we are not distinguishing between information and entertainment. I believe that one of our corporate sins as Americans is that we have lost this distinction. As Christians we have a moral obligation to inform ourselves but we have no obligation to entertain ourselves. As a nation we have a moral obligation to demand that information be made available widely, consistently, and fairly. We ought not confuse t he F irst Amendment with some supposed “right” to be entertained by opinionated pundits who mimic our particular brand of hubris."

The right to free speech is protected by the Constitution. But at what point does free speech pollute our political process? And how can we work to get past the noise?

An Open Letter to President Barack Obama

Dear President Barack Obama, I understand you are moving our government to be more for the middle class, the workers and the small businesses, the elderly and the children. I would like to comment on how your speeches are coming across. Yes, you are being hands-on, pragmatic, and honest and trustworthy. Yet, we need more, as Los Angeles Times and other mainstream media are miscontruing your message and are spinning it to be what GOPs want it to be. For example the headlines of LA Times screamed out that "Obama's budget in the trillions has no details and specifics and just big on deficits." Then, the internet is coordinated in their misinformation and screams out that Karl Rove attended a conservative convention and said GW Bush is a failure and so is Obama. What are they doing?

I finally understood a semblance of what the GOPs are doing and how they actively undermined your budget in the House, except for the three Senators.

a. Use of abstract liberalism unmasking reasonable racism - regardless of economic circumstances, they are calling for individual rights, for smaller gov't, without mentioning GOPs inherited billion surplus, hid the war expenses in Iraq and a trillion deficit from GW Bush, who failed us because his policies took the economy to a freefall to almost a collapse, until you interceded. You on the other hand are being PRESUMED to be a failure, in the same vein as GW Bush, yet you have four years to perform . We need more Mr. Abess stories, of capitalists who prosper with " profits with honor" and not the Wall Street bankers who profit with dishonor. And we need you to give us the real deal. Also, convene a summit of the capitalists you want to see, who act honorably, like Warren Buffett, Loida Nicolas Lewis who shared her profits of millions with potato workers in the production line when she sold her business. Profits with honor and more stories of those. Profits with honor and more stories of those. Or the examples of Volkswagen who are simply cutting hours of production employees, a shared sacrifice, instead of laying off workers. We need examples of business being imaginative towards retaining workers at work.

2. Naturalization: Normalizing what is horrible and saying that's the way it is. We need to examine and call out the behaviors of businesses that squander workers and use this recession to pad more of their wallets. Start enforcing good labor laws and pass Employee Free Choice Act. In the 50s, we were unionized at 35%, today, it is at 7%, and middle class are diminished and union busting is on the rise. We have a right to organize, and when we do, we improve wages, health care and we grow our middle class.

3. Cultural racism - " they can't get it together ". By asking you to be more specific, to be more detailed, when you are still in the process of figuring things out, GOPs are working hard to say your presidency cannot get it together. Yet, you have flawlessly run a campaign that dismantled old ways of doing things. Please give us good news each day, and each week, hold a press conference and give us the progressive status of events, until they become a critical mass. Remember when you won the primary, each week, your campaign shared news of who endorsed you, we need the same, each week, a union or a business or a capitalist won over by your policies.

4. Minimization - declining significance that race is no longer a problem. Mr. President, the GI bill did not include black families and blacks were excluded from early equity - building, and now preyed upon by predatory lenders. So, it is now communities of color that are affected in greater terms by this housing crisis. We need enforcement of laws against predatory lenders and make it a true level playing field again.

I understand you want America to be post-racism, but we are in transition. And during that transition, Robert Gibbs can do a better job of educating and informing the reporters of what your program is, of the White House agenda instead of simply parsing words with reporters who frame the questions from their GOPs owned-newspapers. It is time we get good information. And Organizing for America has not a clue on how to organize like before in your campaign, they are floundering, they have no idea on how to engage us, and they are echoing what you are disseminating inwhitehouse.gov. That is not the purpose of Organzing for America, it should have stories of how non-profits are assisting, of what is good news of folks collaborating, of good actions taken by folks defending what is true in the media. They have no clue at all on how to move folks towards the desired goals of national purpose of revitalizing the middle class and working class and the small businesses. You need better organizers in Organizing for America that include not just whites, but folks of color.

One thing for everyone to know, hearing the two of them combined is funny, but it reminds me of people going after each other on the show, Yomamma. (Look, both of them are talking about drinking coffee while criticizing sarcastically each others' opinions about the housing plan.)

Both of them bring VALID POINTS THAT *EVERYBODY* NEEDS TO CONSIDER!!! Disagree with me if you like, but how they are going about it seems immature.

Another point, I am critical about the MSM's influence on issues and opinions, and I've made this really clear on many of my pre-election posts. Also, due to the biasing that the MSM has done, it is understandable that Obama's staff have been really edgy. However, in this case, the concerns from people like Santelli are from a point of view that happened to start off as off the mainstream, but it managed to become a signal that the MSM is paying attention to on its radar!

In my opinion, I am happy that Rep. Paul's supporters are getting some well-deserved MSM coverage, but also, that Pres. Obama is also doing what he can under the stressfull and intimidating conditions he has been going through.

HOWEVER, ONE THING MUST BE KEPT IN MIND, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT YOU SUPPORT OBAMA OR PAUL OR ANYONE ELSE, MAINSTREAM OR OTHERWISE: THE MSM, OR CORPORATE MEDIA LOVES IT WHEN A DEBATE OVER AN ISSUE DISSOLVES INTO A HISSY FIT BECAUSE IT MAKES GOOD RATINGS, AND THE SUPPORTERS OF EITHER SIDE BECOME SO POLARIZED INTO SUPPORTING THEIR PERSON OR ISSUE THAT THEY BECOME UNWILLING TO HEAR THE OTHER SIDE OUT, WHICH IS ALSO WHAT THE COPORATE LEADERS WANT IN ORDER TO KEEP THE *TRUTH* OF THE SITUATION SILENT!!!!!

I know that some MyBO members may disagree with me, while people who are C4L members that casually read MyBO might take my post as ridiculous, but granted that there are bills like HR 645 that are out there that no one is paying attention to, and there are several other events called out on blogs like MyBO and C4L, it would be nice that people remember to actually calmly and open-mindedly speak to each other.

Because it requires open and honest discussion and the issues at hand are worth looking into, I say that it is necessary that supporters from MyBO and supporters from C4L, as well as supporters from other sites have an open dialogue about this before we become too polarized!

Agree or disagree, but this is my opinion based on my observations on the video links.

New group formed in Chonburi Thailand

When Barack Obama was elected President a group of expat friends living in Thailand thought it would be a good idea to try and find away to raise issues and suggest solutions that affect expats. Since there are over 7 million expats living abroad we feel we are a large enough group to have some impact if we organize.

We realize that there are other really good organizations such as Americans Abroad and Democrats Abroad. It seems to us that these groups are only active during election cycles. Since President Obama wants to hear from all Americans, we thought this blog maybe away to let our voices be heard.

At our first meeting we discussed some issues that we thought were important to us:

Supporting Medicare, Medicade extension to expats. Requesting the "Fairness Doctrine" by initated to cover all news media. Suggesting that Washington DC have elected senators and House representatives. Asking how expats and their foreign partners could be better served by changes to the visa and immigration laws: are some of the things we thought we could persue.

In the next few days we will post these suggestions. We will be interested to hear what others think of the posted ideas and other ideas they have to help President Obama's administration solve problems of the expat community.

How the media can help to defend democracy

New York / London. Since 1984 I am working as a journalist, broadcast journalist and author. Already in the early age of 16 years of age in 1984 I have noticed writing for the paper Daily Mail (Tagespost, Speyer am Rhein, Germany) that the media national and international has a very important role in concern to defend democracy.

Some people in the United States of America know what happened in Germany. In the years 1933 to 1945 people in Germany have suffered a lot because of the tyranny of the Nazi regime and the aftermath of World War II. The time of sorrow was not over in Germany in 1945. From 1945 to 1990 many people in Eastern Germany have suffered until 1989 / 1990 because in Eastern Germany has come to power another dictatorship regime.

Since about 20 years people in Germany and Eastern Germany have a real change to learn what a good democracy could stand for. However as we are all effected by the global financial crisis, global food crisis and many other serious threats we should be aware of the situation not to loose the freedoms and liberties such as granted by the Bill of Rights, the Constitution of the United States of America or as provided in the Universal Declaration of the Human Rights proclaimed three years after World War II in New York City by the United Nations (UN, www.un.org ) .

Because of the very special situation that my grandfather, a former FRENCH ARMY OFFICER Haedi Sabaot a FRENCH citizen is missing since 1945 after World War II I have been forced to think different. Already as a teenager I have been concernd about the threat, that France and Germany may could be at war each other again, as it has taken place in World War I and World War II.

For which country should I fight? Against the country where my grandmother Mrs. Martha Kolcaz was born - against Germany? or against the my grandfathers country which is France.

Already in early age I am came to the conclusion that best we can do is to avoid a new war between France and Germany because I could not make a serious decision on which side or which country I should fight for. So I became after serving for 15 months for the "enemy forces" the German airforce a pacifist. Therefore I got in trouble with the German Military Court.

Because the German Military Officers have been not willing to understand, that I am by no means willing to fight against my grandfather, the former FRENCH ARMY OFFICER and French citizen, Mr. Haedi Sabaot or his friends.

Working for democracy, peace and liberty is not always this is and it required that we are willing to work and labor hard to defend democracy, peacce and liberty.

The United States of America (U.S.A.) is known in all the world as the defender of democracy and therefore I do believe that it is important to support "our" U.S. President Barack H. Obama and his wife and even other people such as the journalist, broadcast journalist and author Amy Goodman which can be called a "true voice for peace."

There is no doubt, when the first Afro-American U.S. President of the United States of America got elected in 2008 Barack H. Obama became since he is in office also the most powerful man on this earth. Imagine if only our U.S. President Barack H. Obama would work for democracy, peace, joy, liberty, social welfare and other elementary and important issue. Certainly he would be able to move something but not enough.

Therefore I do believe it is very important that many other people, precious women and men will get involved in the American and international mission to work for democracy, liberty, peace, health care, social welfare and other important issues and will work together for something good.

Amy Goodman a relative of Holocaust victims and a precious journalist and author is one these precious American woman working hard for the freedom of the press, democracy, liberty and peace.

Amy Goodman has received recently in December 2008 the Right Livelihood Award, which is also known as Alternative Nobel Prize.

Producing media or even an independent radio and television news hour is hard labor. However Amy Goodman has seen as some other journalists, broadcast journalists and authors including me, that there must be another answer then war.

Because I have been looking for a way how to avoid war between two or more nations already in 1986 I came to the conclusion that by supporting international understanding we could perhaps contribute a very important work for peace, liberty and democracy.

To work together for something good, for peace, liberty and democracy is a duty to all people even in their own interest.

In these serious and some times in very difficult times there is a job to do for everyone. Every one not only U.S. citizen can get involved in working for democracy, liberty, peace and the recovery of the United States of American and its people and many other people in many different places in this world.

Radio IBS Liberty and IBS Independent Broadcasting Service Liberty which is also known as Radio IBS Leeds, IBS Television Leeds (because of the place of its foundation) was founded in 1986 by the journalist and author of five books Andreas Klamm. He is also known as a pacifist. After the completion of his entire military service with the German Air Force in 1988-1989 for 15 months he filed for conscientious objector status, which was denied by German Military authories. The grandfather of Andreas Klamm is the former FRENCH ARMY OFFICER Haedi Sabaot and a French citizen, which brought the journalist, broadcast journalist and author in a serious conflict and caused him to start to think about the situation what could happen if there would be another war between France and Germany. The French Army Officer Haedi Sabaot is missing since 1945 after World War II. The founder of IBS Independent Broadcasting Service Liberty has joined other conscientious-objectors. Andreas Klamm is working since 1984 as a journalist, broadcast journalist, radio and television producer and author. His grandmother has left in 1950 Germany for ever and became a citizen of AUSTRALIA in the city of Melbourne, State of Victoria.

He believes that international understanding could help to avoid wars and other conflicts.

Recent history, 2000s

Radio IBS Liberty has aired its own television productions from New York City in 2001 / 2002 related to the attacks on the World Trade Center during a special coverage.

Director of IBS Independent Broadcasting Service Liberty and Radio IBS Liberty is since 1986 Andreas Klamm.

In 2000 new radio and television productions called "XXL-info.Compact", "XXL-info. Gesundheit", "XXL-info.Culture" and other programs have been launched and got international attention even in countries such as Japan.

Radio IBS Liberty is also producing educational radio and television programs for an inter-religious understanding such as faith programs about the Jewish, Muslim, Christian faith and religion and others. The idea to produce such programs in the German language and in the English language came through an inspiration through another radio program produced by BBC London (Britsh Broadcasting Cooperation)

In 2006 the co-operation with the international independent media project Libery and Peace NOW! Human Rights Reporters has been launched and Radio IBS Liberty providing news stories and radio programs in association with Liberty and Peace NOW! Human Rights Reporters.

As in the year of the foundation Radio IBS Liberty is still operating under NO- and even LOW-Budget conditions.

The radio programs have been heard by listeners from about 40 different countries.

Although the situation is quite difficult for the independent radio network during times of a global financial crisis Radio IBS Liberty and IBS Independent Broadcasting Service Liberty are continuing to expand its international services in the English, French and German language.

Most of the radio and television programs a are produced as an independent talk show or program that covers democracy, human rights and justice issues. In many cases the television and radio programs produced on the Radio IBS Liberty / IBS Independent Broadcasting Service Liberty media network are a compilation of news, interviews, and documentaries.

Some of the programs produced by the staff of Radio IBS Liberty and IBS Television Liberty has been aired on different public-access television stations.

Two journalists laboring hard for democracy: The award winning, journalist brodcast journalist and author Amy Goodman from Democracy NOW! on www.democracynow.org (right) which has received in December 2008 in the city of Stockholm in Sweden the Right Livelihood Award as known as the alternative Nobel Prize and the journalist, broadcast journalist and author Andreas Klamm (left) from Liberty and Peace NOW! Amy Goodman is the first journalist which has received the alternative Nobel Prize, the Right Livelihood Award which is given by the Right Livelihood Foundation and Mr. Jakob von Uxekuell which used to be member of the European parliament.

I do believe that Amy Goodman is one of the world best journalists, broadcast journalist and authors and a good American citizen which is laboring hard for a good democracy. The television and radio program Democracy NOW! which Amy Goodman presents with Juan Gonzalez is excellent. In December 2008 we had a chance to meet in Stockholm in Sweden. It is a great honor to meet a precious woman and journalist like Amy Goodman is one.

The President’s Honeymoon Never Started

Somebody once said the first 100 days of the presidency can be regarded as the President’s honeymoon, which I took that to mean with the media journalists in our country; well stating it simply “I don’t see that happening with our newly elected President.” Furthermore, when our President took office less than a month ago, negative journalism for the most part began.

Perhaps “negative” is a bit to strong and not the exactly the correct definition, perhaps the recently created word of “spin” is more befitting of what I see coming over the airways, which includes the online news services and television.

Whatever, my feelings are when I view the RSS banner headlines I subscribe to, from what I consider two leading sources of political news, and they’re casting our newly developing administration and the presidency in a negative light with over half of their articles devoted to day after day of negativeness then I feel absolutely justified in labeling them “negative.”

One provider is the Time Warner organization, which includes CNN and Time, while the other is Politico, which I often quote in my blogs when I find there “factual” reporting available. I desire news coverage which lets me decide my opinion on the story being covered, not the commentator’s or the author’s mostly slighted opinion.

As an example, I believe in President Obama’s Economic Stimulus package, but if I followed the supposedly good advice from everything I read from the two aforementioned agencies I’d have to write my congressional representatives and request their “no” votes on the package.

This is only a very brief introducing. Since 1984 I am working as a journalist, broadcast journalist and author of several books. Since 1984 I am working for the commercial mass or main stream media and for alternative and international media in the English and German language.

In 1984 I have founded www.3mnewswire.org and the Rundfunk- und Programmarbeitsgemeinschaft fuer Film, Funk und Fernsehen (RPF) which stands for Broadcasting and Program association for film, broadcasting and television.

In 1986 in the German city of Speyer am Rhein and in the English city of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England I became the founder of IBS Independent Broadcasting Service Liberty, Radio IBS Liberty, and IBS Television Liberty which is also known as IBS Television Leeds and Radio IBS Leeds.

Already as a teenager when I have 16 years of age I have produced 8 hour live Radio programs with the beginning of private broadcasting in Germany in 1984.

Some awards and promotions I have received for some of my television productions already only two years later, in 1986, 1988, 1987, and 1989 from a Department of State for Political Eduation.

In 1996 I used to be a member of a German political party one of the biggest ones in Germany.

Only as a secondary profession which is good also in 1993 after a training of three years I became a registered nurse (R.N.) and later also a paramedic. Since 1986 I am working both as journalist, broadcast journalist and author in the United Kingdom, Germany and even in other countries.

Also a a registered nurse (R.N.) I have been working both in Germany and in the United Kingdom. Still in 2006 I have been working as an ITU nurse with the Clementine Churchill Hospital in London and with the big massive University Hospitals in Germany.

With the approaching Bi-Centennial, Butcher realized that the Media was ignoring a Legacy of Black (African Americans) accomplishments made into the progress of this Nation, not to exclude the Indians(Native Americans)

Hey, Everyone! Happy New Year!

What an Era we're livin' in, isn't it? History is about to be made! The inauguration day was a wonderful day! Go, Barack! A day I never thought I'd see in my lifetime.

But while we're excited about this new era, unfortunately we've seen record numbers of people losing jobs (600,000 people in November, and a projected 500,000 people in December). And now to date, our country has lost over 3 million jobs since 2007. This is also something I never thought I'd see in my lifetime. People are losing their homes, the car and banking industry are in a huge crisis, businesses are losing money in just about every industry, people who ARE working are struggling to pay their bills as the price of everyday living keeps going up. Gasoline had gone down, but seems to be on the rise, again.

So here we are....in a time of great excitement and of great challenge. While this may appear to be a challenging time for a lot of people, the flip side of challenge is spelled OPPORTUNITY.

With so many people losing their jobs, I predict that this will be a great time for small businesses and people who want to start their own business, create multiple streams of income, side and new hustles....whatever you want to call it....make money!

But you have to be ready. Create a Business Plan. Learn new skills. Look at your existing skills and how you can transfer it to viable businesses or jobs. Embrace New and Social Media. And most of all, learn how to Collaborate and Partner with people, entities, and companies that have the skills that you're weak in. You can't do it all. And believe me....you don't want to......There are only 24 hours in each day. So learn how to partner with people who can do what you can't do, better than you can.

Don't get me wrong. Everybody shouldn't partner with each other. Be selective. When you find the right person or company, set up a contract and put stuff in writing so that you stay in your lanes and are accountable for your tasks and for your actions. And most of all, make sure you know how much you each get paid and how.

If people don't learn how to partner, collaborate across the board (much like we're doing here at my.barackobama.com)....and I do mean across the board....everything from families learning how to get along, live together, and share expenses.....to business professionals learning how to work together who NEVER would have partnered in the past....we'll make it easier on ourselves when we learn how to work together. From a business and personal perspective, 50% of something is better than 100% of nothing.

So let's learn from our wonderful President Obama and the Barack Obama Administration. All different cultures, races, and people from economic backgrounds worked together and rallied around Barack to help him win and make history. And You can win in this economy, too.

Welcome to the new normal. Let's do this! Yes, we can!

Stimulus Bill negotiations reveals want Conservative are really troubled by. They say “to much wasteful spending” is the problem, here’s their idea of wasteful spending; education, infrastructure and not enough tax cuts. Really, education is wasteful?

No the problem with conservatives is the idea of educational reform. Given the fact that, for centuries myths have been maintained which say, African American children can’t learn as quickly as other ethnic groups, based on the idea of poverty. Providing funding to improve the ideological structure and system of education would finally dismantle this belief, which was created solely for the purpose of maintaining the idea of superiority.

Infrastructure would provide jobs for all Americans; there goes poverty levels. With this happening, myths that portray African Americans as “not wanting to work” lacking skills and all other ridicules notions created throughout the centuries would dismantle. Tax cuts as we all know, benefit those in the highest tax bracket, no need to explain further.

The ultimate problem conservatives are having with the Stimulus Package is from Whom the Package comes. This reveals itself by the spins; “suit jackets should be worn in the Oval Office”, “his arrogance”, and so on…

Agreeing with this particular President is too painful for conservatives. Passing the Stimulus packet would be a form of agreement, if agreement is reached, realization would set in, this realization would force Conservatives to face society as it really is; changing.

Something To Explain About My International Family

You might be wondering how can a man or woman be an WORLD CITIZEN and international?

First, my grandfather Haedi Sabaot, is a FRENCH-TUNESIAN citizen and was a FRENCH ARMY OFFICER stationed in the Germany city of Kaiserslautern, Germany in 1945 after World War II.

He was born in North of Africa and he was a so called Black-African man.

He has been in LOVE with my grandmother, Mrs. Martha Kolcaz (born as Maier) and she has delivered a child: My mother in 1946.

People in Germany in 1945 have been still indoctrinated by the NAZI doctrine. The "Fuehrer" liked not this much so called coloured people and my grandmother was persecuted in the city in which she used to live.

In 1950 she has made the hard decision to leave GERMANY forever and she moved to the STATE OF VICTORIA, city of MELBOURNE in AUSTRALIA and even changed her citizenship from the German citizenship into the AUSTRALIAN citizenship.

Already when I have been a teenager I became the unpaid "family interpreter or translator" and all of the communication by phone with my own grandmother, Mrs. Martha was ONLY in the English language.

Certainly I wanted to be able to communicate with my own grandfather, a FRENCH-TUNESIAN citizen which is missing since 1945. Therefore I have studied and learned also the FRENCH language.

For some reason already in 1984 I became very excited about the AMERICAN DREAM and the United States of America and its people.

Therefore I have placed several ads with the Los Angelos Receycler and other papers which do offer ads for free and contacted some organization to find some pen pals in the United States of Amercia.

In 1984 I have been in the happy position to find some pen pals in the United States of America. Since that early time im in touch by regular mail, phone and in these days also by email and the internet with my FRIENDS in the United States of America.

However I do have a dream, which is to become an American citizen.

In 2001 / 2002 I have been traveling two times to New York City and the United States of America. I wanted to help the American people and therefore I became a volunteer with the American Red Cross, although I do hold a GERMAN passport.

Soldiers, policer officers and many other people got exicted about my nice uniform which I have brought with me from Germany as I am not only a journalist, broadcast journalist and author, but as a secondary profession a registered nurse (R.N.) and paramedic also.

In New York City a fire fighter got in trouble after his own house got hit by lighting. However I have made the decision to help him as good as possible. After our mission was completed in the midst of NEW YORK CITY the fire fighter has said in front of his colleague, my ARC supervisior and me: "I wish you that you will become soon an American citizen."

My hope is that the fire fighters good wishes will be heard in the right and good office, soon, as I am waiting so long and longing to become an American citizen.

In New York City I have been laboring hard, 18 hours and I have been meeting hundreds of people face to face. Even those which lost loved ones after 911 and I guess because if all the impressions and the hard work I got a bit traumatized by 911 also.

However it was a honor to help many people and to meet precious, wonderful and good American citizen, which will be a great example for me how to help the communities in New York City.

My favourite city in the United States of America is New York City, followed by Boston, Chicago, Seattle (because a friend lives close to this city) and some other cities.

In 1986 I became the founder of British Newsflash Magzine (which was called first The Newsflash but its title has been changed to British Newsflash Magazine to avoid any kind of misunderstanding). And in 1986 I became with some friends and colleague in the German city of Speyer am Rhein and the English city of Leeds, England the founder of IBS Independent Broadcasting Service Liberty, Radio IBS Liberty, IBS Television Liberty, which is supporting international understanding since 1986.

The country where I want to live, work and marry is the United States of America and I am longing for to become an United States of America citizen. However because of my international family background in many ways (not in all !) I do think cosmopolitan and as a WORLD CITIZEN also.

For many reason I do believe the United States of America is the defender of democracy and a leader or a leading country in defending democracy and this is another reason for supporting the people of the United States of America.

In 2006 I became with other author the founder of the international media project "Liberty and Peace NOW! Human Rights Reporters" which is dealing with social issues and international human rights issues.

In December 2008 I had the great chance to meet a wonderful and excellent colleague in the city of Stockholm, Sweden as she has received there on the side of Krishnammal Jagannathan, Asha Hagi and Dr. Monika Hauser the Right Livelihood Award by the Right Livelihood Award Foundation which is also know as alternative Nobel Prize - the precious woman which I have been meeting and my colleague in her role as journalist, broadcast journalist and author is Amy Goodman from Democracy NOW!

However I do believe because of very precious citizen like her and so many others, the people of the United States of America and the United States of America are so special.

As U.S. President Barack Obama believes that America will be restored, I do believe the same thing and by the way I do believe President Barack Obama, his wife Michelle and his children are precious and special, too.

Since 1984 I am working as journalist, broadcast journalist and author. Some awards from the department for political education I have received in 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1989.

To be a registered nurse (R.N.) and paramedic is a secondary profession only, since 1993. In the past I have been working also as an ITU (Intensive Therapy Unit) nurse for major German University Hospitals and for the Clementine Churchill Hospital in London in the United Kingdom, also.

Actually I do believe there are millions of precious American people and citizen and if the friends of those people will co-operate for SOMETHING GOOD I believe it will be possible not only to restore the situation of the people of the United States of Amercia and for many other people in many different places in this world also.

So far as possible I am trying to encourage on US NY friends my American FRIENDS to contiune to co-operate and work together for something good in the United States of America and in this world.

Hello. I would like to point something out, something that I am surprised the media hasn't hugely highlighted yet. That is this; the change Obama will bring to Washington is not just a change in power, or change in the voting process, or the fact that Obama is an African American. The change Obama will bring to Washington is the way I think the President will rule. My sense is that Obama will lead as a facilitator, guiding the people instead of ruling them... helping them help themselves. This will be a groundbreaking movement in American history.

BBC's way of how to legitimize monsters in the middle east

Forget BBC bias, BBC is totally anti Israel committed, 100% on the side of most radical Islamic group on the middle east, the Genocidal Hamas!

When it interviewed (Jan 18, 2009) the Hamas spokesperson in Syria Osama Hamdan (the monster who said that the purpose of the "resistance" is to wipe off Israel) it handled him in such a manner as if he is a "normal" and average statesman.

Despite the 'big words' by the jihadi group who on top of all has that stupidity of arrogance that is only laughable if it weren't such a serious bunch of bloody murderous thugs, but BBC's audacity of replaying Hamas' phrase of: '"giving" Israel a week to pull out', as if we all don't know that Israel pulls out or back in, when it sees the situation fit to do so.

Later on (on the same day) BBC said: who is responsible for the civilian causalities in Gaza will be disputed between Israel and Hamas, (besides the fact that BBC never to explain that its all Hamas fault, but I want to talk about BCC's worse part than just bias anyway) again this "en par" equation between a democratic free for all unique country in the middle east (where an Arab can get to highest position in Israel's govt.) vs the Islamic group that oppresses any non Muslims and acts towards a totalitarian repressive Caliphate.

Our president elect has given reason to believe that his will be a transparent administration; that his policies will be both reparative and in the interest of the general public, that he is not in the corporate pocket. For this I voted, I am proud to have done so.

His lack of candor however about root causes within government and powered circles end in no little anxiety. Institutions such as DHS, Federal Reserve, CIA, corporate military interests, have evolved into unaccountable, expensive, secret powerbases not unlike governments unto themselves. The assembly over the last eight years of unprecedented and incredible power of the presidency has played out in the public sphere as grotesque fait accompli. Power grabs, both corporate and governmental, the likes of which have only appeared occasionally during the history of the US are occurring daily. A kind of insectile sociopathy pervades.

The public, within what is presumed to be its own media, appears to be viewed with suspicion, parameters of acceptable citizenry narrows, while the value of the dollar and ultimately of labor dwindles progressively to the point of desperation. We the working class are not just alienated but divested. Ours has become a versus relationship with government; one in which interface with institutions common to our experience represent compromise of safety and are therefore avoided.

The ideal of government of and by the people is dead. Left to fend for ourselves within this context we turn on one another, deconstructing our only hope, unity. To what or whom shall we turn? Or is this turning a foolish extension of an ideal long dead? There must be clarity and honesty. No ugliness can be left unaccounted or an already lost citizenry will remain turned away.

From this new administration I then ask this; please, if nothing else, tell the truth. Say it like it is, all of it. Give voice to what is obvious and let us know you see it too. K.

Bush defends honor of Lisa Marie Presley

I saw in the paper two years ago while eating breakfast in a charming diner in West Oakland a picture of Junchiro Koizumi the prime minister of Japan trying on a pair of sunglasses once worn by Elvis in the presence of, in order away from him, Priscilla Presley, Lisa Marie Presley, George Bush, and lastly Laura Bush.

A singularly powerful image, A Japanese leader enmeshed in a peculiarly American romance or glamour, Looking through glasses or borrowing the perspective of the chief archetype of that glamour, a sotto vocce declaration of willingness to lay aside hard truth in favor of the sublime dream that is the central motif of American media.

A whirlwind tour had apparently been arranged for the Prime Minister. Below in the story written by two staff writers at the New York Times an event was described in which the Prime Minister grabs Lisa marie by the waist while singing Hold me Close after which George claps him on the shoulder and shakes his hand. This is seen by the writers as the president putting a stop to a morally questionable action or perhaps as the protection of Lisa Marie. This presumes either that Lisa Marie was unable to handle herself in that situation or that the Prime Minister was subject to an, by American standards, offensive moral ideology. This impression is intensified by describing the president as an ex drinking and incredibly fit hero wandering around in the palace of The King, who was famous for his lascivious and drug addled lifestyle.

One may at a casual glance presume that morality and law are very similar. In fact one may go so far as to assume that law is to society as morality is to interpersonal relations. This connection is dubious at best. Legally they are like heat and light, always co-existent but not the same.

We are the proud inheritors of a constitutional republic. In essence our political system, here in America, is a democracy tempered by a constitution. The function of the constitution is to disallow egregious insults on the rights of any citizen and to define the extent to which morals may intrude upon law.

Morals are subjective. One may find the exposing of flesh inappropriate. It would then behoove that person to wear a lot of clothing. Others however may feel or even be constrained by religion to wear as little as possible. The more politically inclined among these populations may make an effort to legislate their moral leanings, thereby infringing the rights of their opposition. This is made impossible, presumably, by the constitution by circumscribing the extent to which morals may intrude upon law.

The war on Terror is an interesting effort legally. It engages the misunderstood powers of the presidency in times of war and creates a schism in the crisp differentiation between moral beliefs and law. Examples are rife these days. Same sex marriage, pornography, school prayer, drug and alcohol policy, flag burning, abortion, all of these exploit subtle differentiations within the law concerning the separation of law and religion or moral ideology.

The degree of extremity of belief seems to be the turning point. If a group within the general population believes with sufficient extremity in a moral proposition it must then be considered by law. The law is, again, prevented by the constitution from legislating morality and from an abridging of the rights of the few by the vote of the majority.

So there is this guy, Guy Dubord, Who wrote a pamphlet named, "The Society of the Spectacle" http://library.nothingness.org/articles/SI/en/pub_contents/4 Wikipedia has an excellent overview of the pamphlet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Society_of_the_Spectacle Guy Debord and his group , the "Situationists" are pretty interesting and worthy of an afternoons reading but I digress.

I present this pamphlet because the points it makes are so relevant to culture today and ultimately our experience day to day. In it he asserts that, "All that was once directly lived has become mere representation." I spent a few weeks in the early Nineties going to various churches with my dear friend Linda who, by the way has recently lost her husband Victor; Jesus Linda what can I say. We were looking for Gospel of the homespun variety. What we found were churchfulls of people who participated entirely in the service. Although it is true that the "Spectacle" was present in the form of preachers and choirs and bands of various sizes doing their thing on risers above the faithful, the dynamic had a call and response feel in which the events on the stage served as foci from which a maelstrom of activity and emotional intensity emerged. This was not mere group participation. It was more like a merging.

I write about this because, A. It was beautiful and if you've not done it you should, and B. because it is an example, I think, of how the human spirit prevails within the context of the "Society of the Spectacle". Our very closest assumptions about culture and our places in it are formed in the thickest muck at the bottom of the lake of our collective subconscious. Those assumptions form the boundaries or parameters of our expectations of self and society. This lake of subconscious is ultimately fed and grows through streamlets and rivers of myth, ever changing and evolving. Myth is the story we tell ourselves over and over, the story that we tell our children. It is a recursive phenomenon. On one hand it may be presumptuous to think that "Spectacle" has any power over this process. On the other hand one might assert that our self image as a society is based on an assumption of passivity. An assumption that we are, if only until we get out our wallets, like princes and princesses in court fanning ourselves while a parade of spectacles parades before us.

"Ah Me!"

We are seduced by the spectacle while being entirely unaware that it is the spectacle insidiously that forms our definitions of self and society by replacing the function of myth within our society. We feel empowered by the parade but are constrained by it's very nature to not merge with it. It has become an industry, one that exists throughout the world and one that is, once seen for what it is, extremely interesting.

So what's it all about Alfie?

Well first of all, I think, we gotta yell in church. Second of all we gotta not abandon the root of our myth as served up by our predecessors because it is only through evolution that myth can change. Third we gotta mix it up and see what comes. Most of all we gotta see the process for what it is and know that life is far richer than we are led to believe, that the sky is the limit. K.

I was surprised to hear he be having any 'trouble'.
On Dec 8, the Illinois Gov. speaks of protection in a sunshine column.
The 9th, a crime in progress is stopped, and the 'trouble' had its context.
But this exchange has been recalled not at all as I can tell, over a week later, while on and on go silly suppositions wasting time...

Presidential Inaugural Parade to Include Peace Corps and AmeriCorps Alumni
Commitment to Community Service Highlighted by Parade Participants, National Day of Service

WASHINGTON - Today, in keeping with its commitment to hold inaugural events that celebrate our common values and reflect our nation's history of community service, President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden's Inaugural Committee officially extended an offer to the Peace Corps Community and AmeriCorps Alums to march in the 56th Inaugural Parade. Members of these service organizations will join representatives from across the country and our Armed Forces in the historic parade down Pennsylvania Avenue following President-elect Obama's swearing-in ceremony on the steps of the Capitol.

"These organizations embody the best of our nation's history, diversity and commitment to service," said President-elect Obama. "Vice President-elect Biden and I are proud to have them join us in the parade."

On Monday, January 19th, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the President-elect and Vice President-elect and their families will join Americans across the nation as they participate in activities dedicated to serving others in their communities. In 1994, Congress passed legislation designating the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday as a national day of community service, and the Presidential Inaugural Committee will be working to encourage participation in service projects nationwide to honor the legacy of Dr. King..

Organizations wishing to participate in the parade submitted an application to the Armed Forces Inaugural Committee (AFIC), which then assisted the Presidential Inaugural Committee in reviewing all of the groups' applications. All told, 1,382 organizations applied to participate, setting a new standard for interest in marching in the parade.

The Peace Corps Community will include members who served with the corps in the 1960s to the present. Marchers will carry the flags of the countries that Peace Corps have served over the years. AmeriCorps Alums will include some of the millions of alumni of national service in this country since John F. Kennedy's call to service and the conception of VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) in 1961.

In addition to these groups, a number of other parade participants also participate in active community service programs. For instance, the Boy Scouts of America Troop 358 from Philadelphia has been serving members of their community for over 55 years, the Jesse White Tumbling Team from Illinois was founded in 1959 to create "hope" for troubled youth, and the Warren County Sheriff's Office Prevention Partnership from Kentucky raises and distributes money to community groups and programs that help kids stay away from drugs and violence.

The Presidential Inaugural Committee was assisted in its selection process by a group of experienced military musicians, who utilized their expertise to help assess the presentation skills of marching bands, musical acts and drill teams.

All participants in the Inaugural Parade are responsible for paying for their own lodging and transportation to and from Washington, D.C. The Committee has been working closely with area governments and civic organizations to facilitate access to affordable accommodations and would like to encourage citizens from across the country to reach out and help the Peace Corps Community and AmeriCorps Alums raise the necessary resources to participate in this historic event.

This is a reminder that the application process for media credentials for the swearing-in ceremony at the U.S. Capitol, controlled by the Senate media galleries, will end on Monday, December 15, 2008.

Credentialing information for official inaugural events such as the parade, the balls, and other events leading up to and following the swearing-in ceremony that are organized by our committee, the Presidential Inaugural Committee, will be announced later this month.

Below is the advisory released last month by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies that provides information about the process for requesting credentials for the swearing-in ceremony.

WASHINGTON, DC - The application process for media credentials for the 2009 Inaugural Ceremonies has begun, and will run until December 15, 2008.

All requests for media credentials for the inaugural ceremonies will be handled by the Senate media galleries. Media wishing to obtain credentials for the swearing-in ceremonies must apply for credentials through an on-line application process. The cut-off date to apply is December 15. Instructions and the online application are featured on each of the gallery websites.

The number of media credentials issued for the swearing-in ceremonies will be limited by space constraints. Completion of an application does not guarantee that credentials will be issued.

Media credentials for other inaugural events (parade, balls, and any other inaugural events) will be handled by the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) once it is formed. The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies expects that the PIC will be up and running by next week, and will post a link to its website as soon as it becomes available.

We’re six weeks out, and it feels like Inauguration Day is right around the corner. One thing’s for sure: our efforts are really starting to pay off. Let me give you a couple of examples.

Yesterday in New York City the Pickens Plan got another big endorsement. This time it was from the American Lung Association. Think about that. Here we’ve been talking about how developing renewable energies and using cleaner burning natural gas is good for our economy and creates jobs. Come to find out the Pickens Plan is good for your health! I love it. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg was also on hand. He’s been a real leader in using renewables and compressed natural gas in his city. I’m glad to have him on our team.

I also want to bring up my visit to Washington last week where I met with the Obama Transition Team. Like everyone else, I’ve been impressed with the way the President-elect has been preparing for his new administration. My father used to tell me, “A fool with a plan can outsmart a genius with no plan any day of the week.” Let me tell you: the Obama team is smart, and they have a plan. The President-elect wants to get us off Middle Eastern oil in 10 years. There’s only one way he can do that, which is why I’m confident that the Pickens Plan will play an important part in the stimulus package he and his team are crafting right now.

I know President-elect Obama is ready to make some big changes. Let’s make sure Congress is too. The Army is 1.37 million strong. Now we need to get ready in every Congressional district, and I need your help.

Mad As Hell and Got a Bone To Pick!!!

I was flipping channels on the tube this evening and made the mistake of watching a few minutes of CNN's Wolf B. just when they were exploiting a story about Barack using his middle name for the inauguration, as if there is something wrong or unnatural about him using his full name. I am so angry I could bite a brick! Why in hell are the media able to get away with such blatant racism against Muslims. YES - it is racist to make a big deal out of Barack's middle name as though his given name is some type of "foreign" covert signal to radical Muslims. There are millions of people throughout the U.S. and the world named Hussein and they are not scary or terrorist or any type of scallywag!!! What an absolute insult to our American Muslim population not to mention the millions of Muslims around the world that love Barack Hussein Obama II.

This is just as bad as what the American government did to the American Japanese during WWII, with the villainization and encampment of an entire race of American people because of a war fought thousands of miles away. Now we vilify all Muslims because of the war on terror and 9/11 as though Muslims had a secret world meeting and decided that all Muslims would become hate-mongers. How stupid it that!!! And while I'm on this roll, here's a little more to smoke - since America is a mosaic of hundreds of races, beliefs, cultures, religions, traditions, and behaviors, why the hell are we still labeling and allowing ourselves to be labeled a specific type of American when other nations don't divide their citizens? We say British not White, Black, Asian, Hispanic British, or we say French, not Black, Asian, Hispanic or White French. How stupid it that!!!

Most Americans are smart enough to recognize these dastardly tactics for what they are and will no longer fall for them. But - there are folks in America who are totally against Barack Obama being sworn in as our 44th president just because of his skin tone along with the lies and smears that were constantly heaped on him during the primary and general election races. For these reasons alone, the media needs to refrain from these idiotic, race bating, malignant, repugnant, totally disgusting stories that do nothing more than keep people divided! $%^&*(!!!!!!!! Wish I knew how to post pictures on this blog, I'd post one of a big ugly beast with huge teeth right here. Someone tried to teach me how once but it didn't work - oh well ~ Y'all know what I mean... DC ALCOHOL LAW

Senators Feinstein and Bennett Urge DC Government To Reverse Emergency Alcohol Law

WASHINGTON, DC / Senator Dianne Feinstein, Chairman of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC), and Senator Bob Bennett, Member of the JCCIC and Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Rules and Administration, today urged the Mayor and City Council of Washington, DC to reverse the emergency legislation passed last week to allow bars and restaurants to sell alcohol until 5 am during the week of the inauguration.

“We have reached out to Mayor Fenty and Council Chairman Vincent Gray because of our grave concerns about the unintended consequences of this legislation,” said Senator Feinstein.

“What is clearly meant as a boon to local businesses may instead create tremendous problems for already overwhelmed law enforcement agencies.”

“Security needs to be the number one priority during the Inaugural ceremonies and extending the sale of alcohol until 5 am in DC will only divert law enforcement resources away from their primary focus on security measures and crowd safety,” said Senator Bennett.

Text of the JCCIC Letter

Dear Mayor Fenty and Council Chairman Gray:
We are writing today to urge that City Council and the Mayor reverse emergency legislation approved by the Council last week that permits nightclubs, bars and restaurants to sell alcoholic beverages until 5 a.m. for four nights during the Inauguration of Barack Obama as our 44th President.
With projections as high as 4 million people planning to visit the city during this time period, we are deeply concerned that the plan approved by the City Council could seriously strain law enforcement resources that need to be focused on the large crowds and security requirements of the Inaugural and its impact on the City.
There is great cause for celebration at this historic event. But we believe that the benefits of this emergency legislation, passed with little public notice, are far outweighed by its possible consequences.
We understand the pressures you face from the different constituencies in your city. But we also know the importance of standing firm to ensure the safety of residents, workers and visitors who will be in Washington, D.C., participating in this historic event.”

What can we as citizens do to bring about real change? I believe (just my opinion) that one thing we as ordinary citizens can do is to educate ourselves. I think the news media does not do a good job of simply reporting the news. There is a great deal of commentary on the news shows which tends to color our views of what is going on in the world. It is dangerous to listen to our favorite news shows and adopt the opinions of the personalities on the show. So, how can I get straight reporting on the Who, What, When, and Where, of the news so that I can draw my own opinions of the Why? I don't know, but I wish I did.

For years, the Syrian born Hala Gorani was going up ranks her "inside the middle east" is still going strong.'Inside the middle east' sponsored by the Egyptian telecom 'Orascom' (who tells us over an over again in its silly advertisement that "we share the same belief" creating the impression as if Christians and Jews -- the few left after the racist expulsion in the late 1940s -- are not discriminated in Apartheid Arab Muslim middle east) is basically an Arabic program that its aim is to hide its oppressive tyranny, in a region where no Arab country is true democratic or free (in the true sense, including the Iranian/Syrian occupied Lebanon - the terrorized Hezbollahland), by exaggerating true or untrue stories that can be used to idolize Arab middle east.'Inside the middle east' will never show you the true (story of) repressed conditions of non Arabs such as: Kurds, Berbers, Jews, or non Muslims such as: Copts in Egypt, etc.

Ugly 'Palestinianism'

Also appearing in that Arab program which is only to "educate Americans only about the cherry picked stories - Arabs want us to see"... is Ben Wederman, the notorious west bank based CNN terribly biased journalist, who never seems to find a spot to reveal the oppression of 'Palestinians' upon their people: whether its out of blind radical Islamic motivation or typical Arabisn dictatorship, or the Islamic apartheid against the minority Christian Arab community that live in fear and under persecution, or the genocide campaign that is rampant among most 'Palestinians to "eradicate" the "Zionist entity" or about the epidemic of 'honor killing' crimes, or about corruptive leadership that robs its own people ever since Arafat era, but Ben Wederman doesn't see any "use" in reporting these burning issues, he is instead a great spokesman for the 'Palestinian cause', an example from Nov 7-8 (2008), Ben had a program about "olives", supposedly just talking about olive oil... soon you saw the blatant despicable 'Palestinianism' as the Arab farmer talked about how "old" his tradition is and how the land is so "his"... nothing about Arab immigration into Israel-Palestine of course, that's a no-no mention in rewriting - Palestine.He had his camera ready to film Israeli police dispersing a crowd that protested illegal Arab infiltrators into Jewish land... (the true story Ben didn't tell you) when he was asked politely by the police to evacuate the area he refused (after all, he knows very well he wouldn't dare refuse any order from the 'Palestinian' police... what he never bothers explaining his "situation" living in the west bank, how "neutral" a journalist can be), only the 3rd time when he made sure he had enough to portray the Israeli restrained cops as "bad occupiers" he said he is "going"...

As if it wasn't enough with Arab tyrants' regimes "culture" infesting the mainstream media in the US, CNN made yet another Arab program, "MME" Market middle east, by the rich Arabian Dubai financial center DIFC, who pays a man by the name of J. Defterios, 'paid' to glorify its host (besides the weekly Friday Arabist program, here's an example, on Nov 16 2008 at the same time the G20 summit was still on, he "revealed" to us that the Gulf Arabs who combine 1.5 triillion dollar of GDP, "lost" 1.5 billion since June peak season, what a "creative" way of portraying the oil masters that with out any shame exploit the world's need for energy overcharging all of us as "losing" because they lowered a bit their outrageous overcharge as soon as they saw westerners consuming less of it...), where one of the very first opening broadcasts was "naturally" about "how to help the "poor", "poor" "Palestinians" (no, not how the filthy rich Gulf oil Arabs should help, not those Arab regimes that have encouraged the Arabs --not yet called "palestinians"-- in 1948 to evacuate Israel-Palestine, but how the west should rather help them), those self destructive guys, the violence-happy crowd, where bigoted Jihadism and militant racist Arabism was always mainstream, ever since the Mufti Al-Husseini led the massacres in the 1920's - the "creme de la creme" of the middle east.

Yet Another Glass Ceiling With Many Cracks...

I write this blog post in a moment of bittersweet victory. Having campaigned my heart out for Barack Obama over the last 3 months, I am overjoyed at our victory and feel that real change is finally coming to Washington and Main Street.

On election night, I partied in the street on the West side of Fort Lauderdale - a gay white boy surrounded by black people, most of whom were probably heterosexual. It could not have made a difference at the time, because we were all so optimistic and excited. The following morning was a different experience entirely... My friends and I were informed that Amendment 2 had passed and that not only would gay marriage now be outlawed but also civil unions and commonlaw marriages would be denied legal status.

So drops the other shoe.

The most disappointing part of the experience was the media coverage. Every news station was telling us that Black People were to blame... That all of the blacks who came out in droves to vote for Barack Obama had not listened to his supportive speeches and had voted specifically and willfully against my rights... The media maintained that Black people had not returned the "favor" of equality.

I'm not buying it. Here's something that the media is not telling us:

According to the same exit polls from CNN which indicate that Blacks voted for Prop 8 & Amendment 2 at higher percentages than whites, there is a key bit of information that needs to be explored - The total number of black voters for the anti-gay amendments is still not even 1/3 the total number of white, Evangelical voters who voted for the Amendments in the rural areas of the state... In fact, most black voters did not vote on Amendment 2 at all...

It is unfair, unreasonable and devisive for the mainstream media to pit blacks and gays against eachother at a time when we should all be celebrating eachother's diversity... As a white, gay male who supported and voted for Barack Obama with all my energy, I can honestly say that I have not experienced the slightest amount of homophobia from anyone in the Campaign For Change. I have never really felt any exceptional homophobia from the Black community at large, either...

Furthermore, it was not black people who put this Amendment on the ballot in the first place. Once again, this hateful bit of legislation has been brought to you by those "true Americans" who live in the remote grassy knolls that you drive by on your way to better places.

I think it's time to stop blaming races and sexual orientations for problems which are largely brought to us by Republicans. That's the other missing statistic here... Those who voted for John McCain also voted 91% in favor of Amendment 2.

It's time for Black people and Gay people alike to stand up for ourselves and refuse to let Republicans and the mainstream media continue to assail us in the name of "divide and conquer"...

God Bless all of you who helped on this campaign and remember to keep your cool and love your neighbors... even the bigoted ones. We shall overcome.

Will the respect be restored?

Not since the days of John F. Kennedy has the President of the United States commanded the respect he deserves. This is the leader of the free world and the person we all trust to lead us. We need to have the ultimate faith in this person and be somewhat in awe of him. How can we look up to this person if they are little more than fodder for late night television hosts to mock? Goerge Bush unfortunately provided more than ample gaffs and bumbling to be a late night host's dream.

Hopefully this all changes under President Obama. Much of the reason he won was that he is "presidential" and commands the respect of everyone. I hope that the media will be sensitive to the dangers of insulting the first African American President, similar to the way they have treated most First Ladies over the years. There is no shortage of idiots in American politics or business to provide sufficient material for late night scoffing. Let's hope they leave the President alone and give President Obama the respect the office and he deserves.

Former (London) Times Editor Harold Evans Smears the US Media in an Article in the UK Guardian

“Mad about The One. The US media have been captivated by Obama, at the expense of their curiosity and scepticism.”

This is the title of an article by Harold Evans in The Guardian on November 1, 2008. He resorts to the bias he decries in his one-sided column. I have reproduced it below in its entirety, along with my annotations {…} . Phrases that I comment upon are in boldface.

It's fitting that the cynicism "vote early and vote often" is commonly attributed to Chicago's Democratic boss, mayor Richard Daley, who famously voted the graveyards in 1960 to help put John Kennedy in the White House. In this 2008 race, it's the American media that have voted very early and often. They long ago elected the star graduate of Chicago's Democratic machine, Barack Obama. {Obama is a hardly a “graduate“ of the machine. What about Harvard Law, Columbia, etc.?}

I am not talking of editorials in newspapers, though Obama has the preponderance of the endorsements over John McCain. Obama certainly deserves the credit for recruiting impressive advisers and running a more efficient campaign machine than any one in the US's political history.

What's troubling to anyone old-fashioned enough to care about standards in journalism is the news coverage in mainstream media. Forget the old notions of objectivity, fairness, thoroughness, and so on. The nastiest rumours on both sides haven't been published, but the coverage has been slavishly on the side of "the one". {“Slavish”? Evans’s description.}

If there wasn't enough right-wing media bias out there: The Pittsburgh Post Gazette plans to deliver your newspaper on Monday is a plastic bag that says, "DEFEAT OBAMA".

Please call the Post Gazette to complain at (412) 263-1100. It's Sunday, so just hold on the line until you get a live person. Ask them to suspend your delivery, or do what I did and just cancel your subscription to their newspaper. Tell them how you feel about this, be polite but firm.

We DO NOT have time for a newspaper that "claims" to be objective and then proceeds to perpetrate something like this. John McCain, Sarah Palin and the rest of their "cronies" need to fully understand that we REFUSE TO ACCEPT this! They need to know that we have had enough of the lies, the propaganda and the unscrupulous tactics!

Independent Social Media : MC Yogi "Obama '08 - Vote for Hope"

During the past few weeks, while I've engaged in deep research of new trends in internet marketing and social media for my own entrepreneurial initiatives, I've also been keeping track of much of the on-line media involved with the Obama campaign. Of all the great promotional videos that have emerged--my favorite has been this one pioneered by MC Yogi and a local California media team:

This high quality media production really captures the progressive edge, and may have really helped ground-in votes from the younger "hip" demographic. I've participated in helping this outstanding video go viral in it's organic distribution (nearly 250,000 views in just a few short weeks) by leveraging my own social media tool and skills across my networks.

After the video was initially released, I was told by friends that MC Yogi lives nearby, and that a few people who managed the media production are people I know and have worked with here in Marin County. I had a good feeling that I would likely have an opportunity to meet MC Yogi and congratulate him on such a successful production and contribution. That opportunity finally came last night when I attended the "Groove Garden" dance party in Fairfax--where MC Yogi did a live rendition and rap of the same "Vote for Hope" song for Obama. Directly after his performance, I approached MC Yogi, and shared with him my appreciation of the production, and let him know that it really inspired me. He is a great guy, and my further encouragement led him to also peform several more crowd-inspiring raps for Ganesha, Shiva, and other spiritual reverences.

It's great to realize that with just a few creative minds and some dedicated skill and time--nearly anyone can make significant contributions toward progressive change in this world.

Republican Election-Winning Strategy

Republican Model for Winning Elections:
1) Demonize the media.
2) Attack the character of your opponent.
3) Talk about things that have nothing to do with the election.
4) Lie to people about things your opponent has done via email, your very own news channel (Fox News), AM radio hosts, push polls, flyers on windshields at select radical churches, Project for a New American Century bake sales.
5) Spread rumors that your opponent is gay, has met someone who is gay, is secretly married to another man, is supported by an organization whose members are gay, has taken a campaign donation from someone that is gay, or is so straight they must be gay.
6) Appeal to ideographs such as family values, patriotism, democracy, and freedom in an effort to cast anyone that disagrees with you as undeserving to live in the country, despite the fact that in a democracy, everyone has the freedom to express their opinion, and are a patriot for doing so even if it is different from yours. That, and family values is a marketing strategy that doesn't actually mean anything.
7) Demonize the media some more, despite the fact that for the last 8 years it has been in your pocket because the five major companies that own a majority of the media outlets in the country are too afraid to air any criticism of your own president's policies, even the illegal ones (torture, "regime change," wire tapping without warrants, Guantanamo Bay, the PATRIOT Act, etc). That, and due to its corporate ownership, is not looking to draw unfavorable attention to itself (stock prices could dip) and therefore is in service to upholding the status quo. Given that a Republican president and, for a while, a majority in the House and Senate was the status quo, I think it is more accurate to see the media as having been in your favor the whole time.
8) Remind people of the party's former glory under Reagan, and include the slogans that you used from that time which no longer apply: "tax and spend liberal," fiscal conservative, well, that's all I know, I was born the year Reagan was re-elected.
9) Suggest that every problem the country is facing right now is entirely your opponent's fault--gas prices, the tanking economy, deregulation (which is perennially a Republican rallying point--Holy crap, things got out of control, let's see if the public will buy that it was the Democrat's idea).
10) Lie about your opponent's plans for his presidency.
11) Lie some more about your opponent's voting record.
12) Bring up the fact that he served on an education policy reform board in the 1990's with a guy that was, thirty years earlier, active with the Weathermen in the 60's but was never convicted. Fail to mention that the guy had changed since the 60's, as if he still hated the country, why would he join a board that is trying to improve it, and that said board had lawyers and bankers on it also. Imply that he knew the person in the 60's, despite the fact that your opponent was EIGHT YEARS OLD and would never have met him for any reason at that time.
13) Lie to people about your opponent's religion, saying that he is secretly a Muslim. Honestly, this is the most absurd thing I've ever heard. Heck, if the Democrats wanted to, they could say that McCain is a Martian, it would make the same amount of sense.
14) Appeal to people's fear and hatred to generate support.
15) Cast any dissent from your stance on the war as being unpatriotic. Never mind that a) the war has been mishandled from the day our soldiers set the first foot in Iraq, b) the war was not supposed to take resources from Afghanistan, c) Iraq will probably descend into civil war as soon as we leave, no matter when we leave, d) if democracy is of the people and by the people, how can it be forced upon someone, and e) we should never have gone in in the first place. And, because your position is ignorant of these facts, your position is flawed, and a different position that is better informed and is the harder choice to make is the correct one. Honestly, it is easy to carry forward the policies of the guy before you. But to see what must be done, even though it will not be easy, and to do it anyway shows true leadership.
--On this last note, of leadership, look at McCain's policies, they are all the same sort of pass the buck, bandaid solutions that he is saying he will act against: oil dependence--drill for more oil in places that were off-limits because of the damage to the environment and coastal tourism economies, though it will do nothing to free us of oil dependence, high gas prices--suspend the federal gas tax rather than address the real reason prices are high-lack of refining capacity, speculation, and plain old dependence on something we need not be dependent on; and, of course, the war in Iraq.
All of this, and the question that comes to mind is, if you are willing to resort to all this in order to win, do you deserve to win?

Exclusive Palin Interview Disappoints -- and Palin's Eyes 'Well Up'

Will the GOP repackage Palin to tug at voters' heartstrings?

Jill Zuckman scored a rarity in this campaign season -- an exclusive interview with Sarah Palin. Zuckman's write-up for today's Chicago Tribune is, sadly, little more than a campaign puff piece.

The softball questions and the way the article is edited allowed Palin to push her talking points and avoid any stumbles on the eve of delivering her first, and perhaps only, national speech on a public policy issue, a talk on children with special needs. There's no mention of Palin being deposed Friday by an independent investigator working for the Alaska personnel board, either.

Instead, Zuckman began by giving Palin her chance to deflect criticism of expenditures on Palin family clothing, hairstyles and makeup -- the $150,000 RNC outlay for the month of September. Palin asserted that she and her family are "frugal," and she allowed as how "It's kind of painful to be criticized ..." Zuckman didn't follow up or ask how the Neiman Marcus shopping spree jives with the campaign's Joe the Plumber talking point.

As transition into talking about any policy issues, Zuckman paused to portray Palin as a hapless victim. "Thrust into the national spotlight [to the contrary, Palin leapt into the fray with nary "a blink"] ... Palin has found herself [note passive sentence construction] under the microscope ever since, accused [there's the victim card again] of being inexperienced, a drag on the ticket, and most recently the recipient of racks of expensive clothes." Which part of that isn't true?

Palin also turned the exclusive interview into an opportunity to reestablish the link in voters' minds between herself and Senator Hillary Clinton. "I think Hillary Clinton was held to a different standard ... remember that double standard. ... I'm not going to complain about it, I'm not going to whine about it ..." Palin said, as she complained and whined about reports critical not of how she looked but of what the RNC spent to make Palin and her family look their best. Palin and her campaign are being criticized for conspicuous spending. Scrutiny of Clinton's look year in and year out was much more personal.

Zuckman did eventually let Palin preview her policy speech about funding for children with special needs. Zuckman summarized but did not analyze the McCain/Palin proposals. It appears that McCain and Palin want to piggyback two conservative issues -- school choice legislation and channeling funds to religious groups -- with more fully providing for such children. Instead of a "clean" bill, would theirs be a complex one that will be fought by special interests types and then defeated?

Then comes the piece de resistance and grand finale of Zuckman's hard-hitting journalism:

Palin's eyes well up as she talks about her sister's son, Karcher, who has autism.
"My sister and I have talked a lot about this. It makes me cry thinking about it," Palin said. "She asked with tears in her eyes, she says, 'What happens when Kurt and I, though, are elderly, then what happens to Karcher?' "

Well, nice try repainting Sarah Barracuda, Sarah the Moose Hunter, Sarah the Pit Bull as Sarah the Sensitive.

Last January, many pundits and campaign poobahs were impressed and puzzled when Hillary Clinton pulled out a win in the New Hampshire Democratic primary, despite all the polls and many of the pundits having predicted that Obama had the state and even the nomination sewn up. When Hillary Clinton won, many concluded that her tearful on-camera comments about how hard it all was, made the critical difference. They figured voters liked the humanized, femininized candidate and came out to support her at the polls in droves.

That may or may not have been what happened. There are other plausible theories floating around on what happened in New Hampshire.

At any rate, it looks like the McCain/Palin team feels this sensitizing thing is at least worth a try. They can see how it flies. I wonder, did the GOP get Palin's teary-eyed moment on camera? And will their timing prove to be good enough? Stay tuned.

Something is happening in America. People are speaking out. Down to earth, hardworking people, facing increasing debt, unemployment and lack of health care. The middle class has finally had enough. Groups notorious for political apathy are even getting involved.

The ‘proles’ have found a voice and are no longer using such excuses as, ‘my vote doesn’t count.’ So what has caused this surge of interest? The answer could be Barack Obama and his ability to inspire. It could be the fact that people are so fed up with President Bush they are desperate for change – any change. Or maybe it’s a combination of both. Either way Barack Obama is definitely seen as the man of the people; champion of the little guy. Whether you like him or not, it’s hard to deny that the Illinois Senator has stirred the nation and woken people up.

Even the most cynical would have to concur. But is it all just artfully crafted rhetoric? If elected, will he actually deliver on all the promises he’s made to the American people? Or will he ignore middle class issues when he no longer needs to win votes, like so many politicians before him?

In the words of Senator John McCain, “who is the real Barack Obama?” At a campaign rally in the small city of Asheville, North Carolina, 28,000 people seem to know the answer.

Many have been standing for hours in the hot sun to hear Obama speak. Some even camped out over night to ensure a spot. It sounds like fans at a rock concert not voters at a political event. But this is how it’s been for Obama. At first some of Obama’s admirers came across as fanatical and naive, fawning over someone they knew very little about, asking no questions, just believing everything he said. But speaking to Barack Obama supporters in North Carolina has educated me a little about the candidate and his campaign.

It goes much deeper than mere idolatry of one man. Let’s call it the Obama Factor, a movement that has inspired and united the downtrodden. He has managed to reach people and appeal to their deepest emotions. In some ways the leader loses dominance once the momentum is unleashed and the followers find a common cause.

In this case the cause is the treatment of middle class America. The energy and enthusiasm in the packed Asheville High School Stadium is palpable. Thousands of people are ready for something new, something better. And they truly believe Obama is the candidate who will deliver. “He’s inspiring,” says a teenage girl, “every time he speaks it’s amazing and it’s impossible to listen to him without getting emotional.” A woman concerned about health care says she relates to Obama because he too encountered problems with insurance companies, when his mother had cancer. “He really listens to people and he listens to the needs of the people,” someone else tells me as the camera zooms in on her smiling face. What did you think of the speech? I ask an articulate ten year old girl. “Remarkable,” she answers, “I absolutely loved it.” A fifth grader – talking about a political rally! Obama is the candidate tackling the real issues that effect real people, not pampered film stars, Wall Street CEO’s, rich politicians and multi millionaires, his supporters remind me. “That’s why I like Obama and Biden, they’re for everybody, not just the healthy wealthy,” says a young woman.“Ninety percent of the people that are paying taxes are being abused - they’re being taken advantage of,” a man in the crowd tells me, “The tax dollars are going to the wealthy and we’re being forgotten about.” I approach a man holding a ‘yes we can’ sign and ask him if he thinks Obama will deliver on his promises, “yes,” he answers immediately, “I believe he will, to the best of his abilities.” I probe further, “why do you believe this?” “I just believe it… I feel a connection with him.” Another man tells me Obama will win by a landslide and all you have to do is look at the numbers attending his rallies for proof, “that’s what we represent,” he says, “that’s what change represents.” Others tell me Obama’s ‘for the middle class’, which constitutes most of North Carolina and the rest of the country. He’s also the only politician reaching out to young people, and according to a first time voter, “Barack Obama speaks down to earth with us – he doesn’t sugar coat it.”

Obama supporters are plentiful, they’re demanding to be heard and feeling empowered for the first time in years. They’re full of passion, inspiration and most of all hope. With this kind of following it would seem that McCain doesn’t stand a chance. My ten year old interviewee thinks the battle’s already won. I ask her how close the race will be. “I think McCain will be in the toilet,” she says, with a serious face, “and Obama is going to be living the high life.” Others agree that Obama will win the election by a healthy margin, while some exercise caution and anticipate a very tight race.

As for the Tar Heel State: “We’re going to win North Carolina this time,” a woman exclaims with confidence as a crowd around her cheers. “We have a record number of new voters and it’s Obama who they overwhelmingly support.” North Carolina has voted Republican since 1976. But polls now show it’s practically neck and neck. Can this momentum hold out? Is enthusiasm enough to swing this traditionally red state to Obama?

As the saying goes, talk is cheap, and promises can be broken. Obama is a great orator and has tremendous presence. But one could argue that the message may be a little too full of rhetoric and lacking substance. Is there more belief than proof? Is the word ‘hope’ too idealistic? Can Obama, or anyone else for that matter, implement true change?

John McCain is a formidable opponent with a strong support base in North Carolina and across the country. Republicans are not as vocal and not as visible as the Democrats this time, but they’re out there, waiting patiently to cast their ballots. Republicans always turn out to vote.

Will Obama supporters do likewise? Will there be enough of them to win him the election? Either way, this is a fascinating race and has captured the attention of most Americans, who are happily involving themselves in the Democratic process – some for the first time. Politics has therefore become inclusive in some ways. Maybe that’s the change we should celebrate.

The Economic Plan that is needed.

What Obama needs to do is lower taxes for the middle class, that way their will be a larger effect on consumer consumption. The old trickle down effect of hoping the upper class' tax breaks can benefit the economy is no longer working; they are the ones who caused this financial crisis. We need to urbanize the country and create more inward growth of our administrative systems, knowledge, and innovation while still maintaining a steady control as the world's central economic generator.

It will be particularly advantageous to create the right alliances right now. China is on the brink of entering its mass urbanization phase. Chinese media, such as "Still Life" directed by Jia Zhanke, depict the demolition of old Chinese cities and in order for mass reconstructive urbanization projects mainly consisting of infrastructure and industry. America needs to begin capitalizing upon the economic benefits that helping and fostering economic growth of a quickly developing brings. This mutually beneficial international partnership of trade, coupled with the tax breaks for the "Joe" consumers, will undoubtedly help boost America's economy, not just to its former state, but rather to that next level. It is time to embrace the intelligence of a Harvard graduate running this country.

Should Brooklynites Protest the BROOKLYN firm doing the robocalls?

I was absolutely HORRIFIED to read in the Huffington Post that the slanderous robocalls that accuse Barack Obama of working closely with terrorists that kill Americans are coming from Brooklyn.

This past week, Shoff, a Freeborn, Minnesota Democratic County Commissioner, received the Hollywood call while at work. Because state law dictates that any such calls be made by an actual human, Shoff demanded that he be connected to the supervisor. That official, who worked at the robocall shop King TeleServices in (Red Hook) Brooklyn, New York, said that they had been contracted out by FLS-Connect.

Officials with King TeleServices did not respond to messages seeking comment.

Asked about the connection to King TeleServices, a receptionist for FLS relayed a message from her supervisors that implicitly acknowledged that they have been working on behalf of the Arizona Republican: "If it is having to do with the McCain campaign or the RNC, you will have to direct your question to them."

Believe me, I know there's lots of other fronts, and important positive action to be taken. I have canvassed in PA, donate too much of my budget to Obama, and will soon be traveling to FL (after voting absentee) to get out the vote in that state. But hear me out.

We're in a blue state, and feel at times we're impotent to affect this election. What we can do is utilize our easy access to the media, and our sheer volume of numbers to make a point.

We could seize this as a chance to REINFORCE the message I'm gratefully hearing more and more; that McCain is running a slanderous and dishonorable campaign. Also that his negative and untrue attacks are backfiring, and offending reasonable people who want to discuss the issues and elevate the level of political discourse. I think we should. I think we should send out a message that "Brooklyn don't go for that! If you wanna tear the American electorate apart with your lies and racism, I do not want you to do it in my backyard!"

Letter to the Editor: Media fails to fulfill its role as watchdogs, allows vicious lies to spread by the McCain campaign and its allies

Dear Editor,
Barack Obama was right when he stated that John McCain's negative ads and mud-slinging campaign say more about him than they say about Obama.

I keep seeing more disgusting untruthful negative ads from John McCain, when just two days ago he paid lip service to the fact that the campaign should be about the issues.

I am thoroughly disheartened and repulsed by the McCain/Palin campaign and its associates. Between the "robocalls," the untruthful accounts that Obama & Ayers "ran a radical education foundation together," and allowing interest groups to imply that Obama's association with Ayers makes him a terrorist, I have had enough and I am disgusted. Not to mention the misrepresentation of Obama's health care plan, his vote history (that he voted 94 times to increase taxes), the claim that Obama opposed a law that would have saved Gianna Jessen's life (as an Illinois state senator), and the bogus, deceptive research published by Jerome Corsi.

It's as if the media treat Corsi as if he were a serious scholar. He has yet to be confronted with his manipulations of reality and his questionable sources, all the while, allowing falsehoods to spread.

Where is the mainstream media on all of this? It seems that the profession to which I once aspired (yes, I hold a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication) has further proven why I chose not to pursue it. It is the media's job to debunk this kind of trash - not ignore it or sensationalize it.

Americans across the country are tired of the lies, hidden truths and manipulation. Our founding fathers intended for us to be "one nation, under God, indivisible." The McCain camp and extremists like Corsi have sought nothing more than to divide and manipulate the American people.

Let's stand up, unite and become one nation again. Let's refuse to be manipulated and treated as pawns. Let's put the lies and mud-slinging to rest. Let's be responsible in our research and reporting. And let's make our voices heard by voting for the change we need.

Update on the Petition to Boot Debate Moderator Brokaw

Thanks again to all of you who took time to add your name to our effort to force the Commission on Presidential Debates to give the American electorate the BEST chance to compare our choices for leadership of our great country. We delivered the petition and your 2,100 signatures to Janet H. Brown, the CPD Executive Director, as well as several other Commission officers. Copies were also sent to top NBC-Universal executives, hoping the network would respond to our demonstration of dissatisfaction of the bias in their programming.

Sadly, we failed to even get a simple acknowledgment from ANYONE for our efforts. And as we saw, during the debate moderated by Mr. Brokaw as well as his subsequent behavior on the weekly Meet The Press show and various MSNBC programs... his obvious prejudicial (pro-Rep/anti-Dem) favoritism continues.

A bad feeling... (Media propping up McCain)

Went to bed last night nodding off to an incredibly boring CNN broadcast of full live coverage of McCain speaking to a rally of supporters. Not just a clip... it went on and on and on (at least 15 minutes of McCain live before I fell asleep)... and I was listening, thinking... this guy is going on and on about helping the middle class with a tax cut and the importance of regulation... how is one of the greatest 'deregulators' of all time allowed to get away with this sudden shift to a laundry-list of OBAMA's proposals? Since when did CNN become "The mcCain News Network"?

Woke up this morning to the BBC - playing the theme from "Rocky" and talking about McCain. In about 30 minute of news I heard about McCain the fighter, the kinder-gentler Sarah Palin (though she's still a tough, "pit-bull"), and an interview with a woman who claimed to have been a Democratic primary supporter of Hillary Clinton... (Woman: "I'm just glad to see another girl on the ticket"... BBC Interviewer: "And if Hillary Clinton had won the nomination, who would you be voting for?"... Woman: "I like Sarah more. She's more like me." ... Me: ... grinding, gut-wrenching sensation... isn't that EXACTLY the sentiment that gave us eight years of "W"? The one "you'd want to go out and have a beer with"... Help!)The last 24-48 hours at least have been all McCain all the time.

Guess what - well, gee, golly shucks - the next 24-48 hours are going to be about McCain's sudden, inexplicable (yeah, right!) 'surgre' in the polls; the "fighter" the new "come-back kid"... what a story - greatest comeback in the polls since the last-minute Carter-Reagan debate (not to mention the debacle in the dessert) allowed the actor a last minute surge to victory (and with it "Mourning in America"). At least that was somewhat driven by "real" events (the debate, a botched hostage rescue). If McCain 'surges' why will it be? Purely MEDIA driven ("left-wing liberal media..." give me a break!!).

As soon as American's attention to REAL issues (the Economy, stupid) started to seriously sink McCain, the media seems to have gone into overdrive in a desparate attempt to keep the horse-race going... Their (media's) self-interest in the horse-race (and advertising dollars in brings) may yet propel McCain (and heaven forbid... Palin) into the Presidency!For the first time in a long time, I'm getting a bad feeling. I hope Obama's ability to BUY time on TV in the US can short-cut this danger. I'm not seeing that overseas. On the news it's All McCain, All the Time.

The booking was instrumental in Fitzgerald's career. Marilyn would promise the owner that she would appear every night (and be on time), and this way also fill the house--and she did, she was there every night, and she filled the house and: she was always on time! Their close friendship lasted for many years and Ella would sing Marilyn Monroe's famous 'My Heart Belongs To Daddy'in honor of her wonderful friend Marilyn Monroe, who died almost 34 years before she passed on in 1996, at age 79.

Just Because You Say It.. Truth in Political Commercials & FOX News Advertising

There is a rule well known by preschoolers that does not seem to apply to politicians or major media outlets:

Just because you say it, it doesn't make it true.

Our truth in advertising laws on the books need enforcement. Government agencies can warn and fine companies when they make false and misleading claims about everything from beer to tooth paste, but somehow we don't feel compelled to regulate political ads, or the claims that news organizations make in an advertising/promotional form?

Negative ads that are based on unfounded charges go away if they aren't legal. If we apply the same proof standards that we use for Viagra to vitriol, then at least the Lee Attwater/Karl Rove school of smear first, fact-check later is not what the public is being delivered.

To have an informed population, they have to be getting information. Too often, as with the Ayers smear, or...

Time to Let the Media Tranquilize the Pit Bull

I understand the calm, cool strategy the campaign is pursing and I'm quite impressed by the steadiness by which the S.S. Obama is being steered, especially when it came to dealing with the wildcard of the race: Sarah Palin. Overall, I think the strategy in dealing with Palin and the media so far has been a net positive for Obama. In the weeks following McCain's hastily made choice of a running mate, the Obama campaign wisely ignored her and resisted fueling the media fire around her. That may have worked in some regard, but enough time has passed that the sparkle that surrounds Palin has faded, but so have the memories of her ridiculous answers to basic reporter questions and the controversy about her selection and her past. Now her positive ratings are too high to ignore, and much of that is due to the way the media glorifies her Joe-Six-Pack appeal and adorable way of side-stepping questions. She energized her base, but fortunately for us, she is not well liked by independant and swing voters. From what I am hearing, the big question for many of those voters who have not committed their vote for one party or another is whether or not Palin is acceptable enough to let them still vote for McCain.

Sarah Palin is easily the most controversial and divisive figure to enter Presidential politics in years. However, it appears that the television media has applied a policy of self-containment when discussing that issue, and only discusses topics which the political campaigns brings up through releases, speeches or in interviews with surrogates. Today's main stream media, particularly the cable news networks other than Fox, are paranoid of those who strive to label all those who do not support a strict right-wing ideology as "Liberal Media" so it seems they overcompensate by avoiding policy analysis or any real journalism....they just discuss what the campaigns want them to discuss. In the absence of new topics to discuss from either campaign, the talking heads resort to fluff and tabloid-like topics because they feel people are more interested in being entertained than being informed. What Palin wears is discussed more often than her shaky record on ethics. The reporters look bored and want something juicy to chew on....and it would be a welcome releif if that chew-toy wasn't a listing of everyone Obama ever knew and seemed objectionable.

Because the Obama campaign has ignored Palin she has hereto received a free pass on her involvement with the AIP, the anti-semitic slant taken by her mayoral race, troopergate, etc...and McCain has largely gotten a pass by the media for his risky, Hail Mary choice of someone who could be the next president based on a meeting and a phone call. You can avoid bringing up her church issues and still cut down her claims of being a "reformer" (who was found to have abused her power for personal gain) or being patriotic (supporting a secessionist organization that hates the government is not exactly "patriotic"). At some point the Obama campaign surrogates should suck out the wind from the McCain/Palin sails by going after Palin (and McCain's lack of judgement for picking her) in some capacity. Even Fox News sometimes feels the need to cover official campaign announcements for fear that their viewers may look behind the "fair-and-balanced" curtain and find out that the network has a very specific political agenda, so I think we need to give the news anchors, radio show hosts, and all forms of talking heads something more interesting to talk about than the BS about Ayers and Wright.

Just firing a shot across the bow through surrogates or a press release could spur conversation and would at least make sure that the Troopergate findings that came out Friday are not already old news by Tuesday. Deflating the Republican base who is energized and inspired by Palin may not win us more votes, but it could cool the enthusiasm enough to make a needed difference in their Get Out The Vote efforts, and it could ramp up Palin's negatives enough to make her less acceptable to the moderate voters who are still on the fence. I believe it is time to unleash the wolves and get the media to change the subject.

Sen. Obama's television surrogates need to strike back harder and on point. I just spent 2 hours flipping thorugh the FOX, CNN and MSNBC shows. Everybody is talking about Sen. Obama's past associates. It is getting wide disucssion. NOT ONCE, not one, did anybody bring up Charles Keating.

We need to counter hard about Mr. Keating, a financial terrorist who bilked BILLIONS from innocent taxpayers. He wasn't just McCain's associate either. John McCain and his wife Cindy went on exotic vacations with the Keatings, traveled on their yacht. Cocktails and fine dining over and over and over. THey were best buds. This "my friends" is no comparison to serving on a board and also being in a room for a fundraiser once.

BILKED BILLIONS. If we are to be judged by the company we keep - this needs to be called into talk shows, TV shows, email FOX,CNN and MSNBC. Bombard about the BILIONAIRE BILKER, Criminal and financial terrorists. Don't just circulate a 13 minute video ( which was terrific) - call and email the media outlets to be fair.

You know, Sen. Obama was 8 years old when Mr. Ayres was up to his antics. His association was tangential and shared that association with other respectable people.

John McCain admitted poor judgement in his MANY, years long association with Charles Keating. He apologized for it and for the most part, we accepted his explanation. So now, McCain expects the electorate to move on where the Keating Five are concerned. Okay...

But wait, you don't want to give Sen. OBama the same benefit of the doubt that you got Sen. McCain? We should MOVE ON with your past associates, like Rev Hagee and felon G.GOrdon Liddy, but we are NOT SUPPOSED TO MOVE ON for any thin associations Sen. OBama had? C'MON!!!!!

Folks, the Sean Hannity driven outrage over Mr. Ayres will have a negative backlash I think - but it is also now dominating all the mainstream media outlets. We aren't getting people speaking up loudly enough for Sen. Obama's behalf. I just watched Paul Begalia mention McCain ought not to go there...but he never gave any examples. The viewers need to be reminded of the significant counter-balance arguement.

McCain tied to Iran Contra Affair

McCain's ties are facing renewed scrutiny after his campaign criticized Barack Obama for his link to a former radical who engaged in violent acts 40 years ago.

The U.S. Council for World Freedom was part of an international organization linked to former Nazi collaborators and ultra-right-wing death squads in Central America. The group was dedicated to stamping out communism around the globe.

The council's founder, retired Army Maj. Gen. John Singlaub, said McCain became associated with the organization in the early 1980s as McCain was launching his political career in Arizona. Singlaub said McCain was a supporter but not an active member in the group.

"McCain was a new guy on the block learning the ropes," Singlaub told The Associated Press in an interview. "I think I met him in the Washington area when he was just a new congressman. We had McCain on the board to make him feel like he wasn't left out. It looks good to have names on a letterhead who are well-known and appreciated.

"I don't recall talking to McCain at all on the work of the group," Singlaub said.

The renewed attention over McCain's association with Singlaub's group comes as McCain's campaign steps up criticism of Obama's dealings with William Ayers, a college professor who co-founded the Weather Underground and years later worked on education reform in Chicago alongside Obama. Ayers held a meet-the-candidate event at his home when Obama first ran for public office in the mid-1990s.

Obama was roughly 8 years old when Ayers, now at the University of Illinois at Chicago, was working with the Weather Underground, which took responsibility for bombings that included nonfatal blasts at the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol. McCain's vice presidential nominee, Sarah Palin, has said that Obama "pals around with terrorists."

In McCain's case, Singlaub knew McCain's father, a Navy admiral who had sought Singlaub's counsel when McCain, a Navy pilot, became a prisoner of war and spent 5 1/2 years in North Vietnamese hands.

Falling all over Palin

I can't believe people are falling all over Sarah Palin. After the Thursday's debate, I listened with open ears at the office buzz - especially from other women. Those that thought she won said things like, " I just like her, " boy she was great", "she's adorable" etc. The "just" was a I don't know why, I just do kinda statement.

Sarah Palin is an attractive, witty, talented and not stupid woman. I understand her appeal. I really do. I would love her as a next door neighbor. Let her mature in her Governor's role and come back in four or eight years, but she is not ready now.

"Well, Sen. Obama has lite experience too," my Republican friends have countered. Okay, accepting that premise, why is it that Sen. Obama can talk to people, be interviewed by friendly and hostile media, and answer contemporaneously without notes, scripts, etc. Off the cuff, he makes sense. He does not rely on euphamisims and cutsey talk. There is depth there and detailed understanding of the issues.

McCain campaign has isolated her. That is disturbing. When they were embarrased into putting her on TV with mainstream media, she blundered. THose questions from Couric were not tough questions!

Oh, but she redeemed herself at the debates. Excuse me, but anybody can memorize statements and talking points. Don't answer questions - just get out your talking points no matter what and deliver them in a folksy way so it doesn't look so canned. She would never be able to do that one on one with someone who would press her for details. Their campaign knows this and will shelter her away from such scrutiny.

Doesn't anybody else find that extremely disturbing and frightening? It is insulting to me as a woman, that everyone feels the need to protect her. My god! This woman could seriously become president! And she is sheltered, protected and controlled precisely because if she is let go she will embarass the campaign and expose her lack of intellectual curiosity and shallow knowledge of the issues. We all heard the pre-debate buzz: "Biden has to be careful not to appear condescending," "Biden cannot attack Palin because it will elicit sympathy from women." Fellow females, this is a HUGE step back for our cause. If she can't play this game on an equal footing, Palin doesn't belong in this game. What is going to happen when Putin plays hardball and goes on the attack? Is she going to be able to handle it? Will she cower in her victimhood? Will she give a shout out to the American people and complain that Putin is not being fair?

To those of you who are voting for her because you like her - you need to do yourselves and America a favor - and look beyond personality and gimmickery - you are being sold a package. You are being handled by pros who have coached a product who uses folksy buzz words to appear just like you and me.

And that maverick-anti corruption label she is wearing? Well, it doesn't apply to her personally. Her former brother in law cop went before a panel and was reprimanded when Pailin relentlessly complained about him. She wanted him fired. The procedure censored him and punished him. That wasn't good enough. She wanted him OUT. She had no right to use her position as Governor to circumvent set procedures. She didn't like the verdict so she illegally used her influence. Then she went up the chain and fired the person who obeyed the law. When she went up for investigation, well before her consideration as VP, she welcomed it and vowed to cooperate. That all changed when McCain picked her. Now the investigation is politically charged, she alleges. Now she won't cooperate. Sorry, but sweeping corruption clean also includes keeping your own house clean. If there is nothing to worry about, as she claims, she should cooperate and answer subpeonas.
