As a fellow Jerseyan, fellow musician and Bruce fan, I was thrilled with The Boss' endorsement of Barack Obama. As great as his words in that article were, I think his lyrics over the years speak best for why we need Obama's brand of political change.

OBAMA '08 ~ Wonderful World, Beautiful People

Before I knew much about Senator Obama I read "Audacity of Hope". When I read: the majority of American people are decent, no lie, my first thought was: what rock has he been living under? I have lived in Ku Klux Klan territory and I do not consider people who would join the KKK to be "decent".

I have been called some pretty ugly names because I am a peace activist. The Bush years people seemed to have gotten worse. I have friends of many ethnicities and religious persuasions. Even some of those would jump on the "I hate Muslims" bandwagon. The worst was a Christmas morning email spewing Hebrew and Muslim hatred. I will skip the details on that one.

Seeing such a diverse group of people joining together and working to elect Senator Obama has restored my faith in people. That is the change I want to see in the USA. Unity through diversity. Something more like these lyrics:

A while ago I posted a mash up of lyrics, at time when Yes, We Can positive Obama was the norm here at Obama '08. As a part of that I used lyrics from Al Wilson's 1970s tune "La La Peace Song". He passed away today at age 68 of kidney failure. It seems we have come full circle; then it was the Vietnam war, today Iraq, with Iran on it's coattails.

Just watched a video clip of a PENN voter. A Vietnam veteran, wants out of Iraq, is worried about heading into a recession, does not like our jobs shipped overseas. He voted for McCain. He obviously missed McCain's saying it did not matter to citizens if we stayed in Iraq "100 years", nor that McCain wants new war in Iran. He does not like the way Clinton and Obama fight all the time. Thanks, Hilary for turning a primary election into a war zone. Some lyrics from "La La Peace Song".

A very popular bar song from my days living in the Pocono Moutains was Mere Haggard's tune "Okie from Muskogee". Part of lyrics:

That is the tip of an iceberg. Not the sentiments of all people living in Pennsylvania, nor all people living in small towns in Pennsylvania. More than likely the one who made the comment votes Republican.

Obama '08 ~ Allentown

When people ask me where my daughters live and I say Allentown, they give me that blank stare. I would say, "you know, 'they're tearing all the factories down', Billy Joel tune...". Of course unless they were a Billy Joel fan or listened to Joel's middle of the road rock 'n roll they still gae me a blank stare. Billy Joel had a hit with "Allentown" in 1982. I often wondered why he choose to sing about Allentown. I later decided it was because he performed in the Allentown state fairs, a largely attended yearly event.

My old joke when people would ask me: What do you think? I would say: I try not to. Thinking, like words, can lead to a good place or a bad place. I would rather be thinking on positive things, like the beauty of flowers and trees, than negative thiings like dead children on the streets of Iraq. I often wonder if people think how their words will affect other people before they speak them or type them. Have to look up a quote about words and post it at a later time.

I copied a You Tube user's comments for my own information:

On May 11, 2004, Whitehead was murdered while working on his car with his nephew on the street outside of his Philadelphia

home. He was shot by two unknown gunmen who fled afterwards. The case remains unsolved. Whitehead was 55 years old.

On January 27, 2006, McFadden died of liver and lung cancer. He was 56.

May the guys "rest in peace"; many unsung heros travling life's highway. This song was motivating and joyful many years later. Seems almost perfect for Obama's campaign.

I never had a First Lady that I could relate to. Michelle Robinson Obama and I might not have much in common besides thinking her husband is the answer to what ails our nation, but I like her. I especially appreciate that she, like me, considers Stevie Wonder her favorite, all time musician.

Stevie has bringing joy into my life with his music ever since he was called Little Stevie or the Boy Wonder, when he popped onto the music scene in 1963 with hit single "Fingertips". I am not that old, I was two at the time, but advanced with an early ear for music. Stevie's songs lifted me up when I was down and cried for me when romance did no go my way. He sang out my government frustrations for me. Might say as Little Stevie grew up, changed and evolved, so did I. A thank you to Stevie Wonder.

Thank you because when times were bad and I was feeling sad I always remembered there was "...a place in the sun where there's hope for everyone".

Thank you for reminding me not to wait for "New Years Day to celebrate" that I did not need "chocolate covered candy hearts to give away" and even if I had "no song to sing" on just "...another ordinary day" that I should just call "...to say I love you."

Thank you for reminding people "music is a world within itself, with a language we all understand, with an equal opportunity, for all to sing, dance and clap their hands...".

Thank you for supporting Senator Obama. I love being on the same team with a favorite star.

I have this mood meter~when I read positive Obama '08 Community Blog posts, my meter goes up; when I read about his opponent, my mood starts sinking. After page after page of more negative C-stuff, I hit bottom and go on an Obama '08 post frenzy. Great win for Obama last night, wish that happy feeling could be sustained for one day at Obama '08 Community Blogs.

Cydi Lauper, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen and Ray Charles performanc in "We Are The World" were especially touching to me. Lionell Ritchie, Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers, Dionne Warwick, Tina Turner, Paul Simon, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross are just a few of the many talented artists that cut across all musical genres to come together for one good cause.

I made my choice to believe in Obama's ability to bring me the change I want to see in DC. Our government, of, for and by the people. Republicans had a little fit today because they did not get their desire to spy on citizens legislation passed and stormed out of the White House. How can these men (and I guess ladies) expect our young to behave like adults when they do not? Violent crime and school shootings has risen with the Bush administration. Hate begets hate; violence begets violence; bashing people is accepted under today's leadership.

Looking forward to a better day for you and me...my grandchildren, your children, your grandchildren, children everywhere.

The late 1960s and early 1970s were glorious years of transformation and change. The train seems to have derailed somewhere along the line, but I see it picking up steam under Senator Obama's lead and his supporters, campaign staff work on behalf of the people.

Moving On Up

I sometimes become downhearted and need some renewed hope. It is especially disheartening to me to read pro-Clinton stuff on these Communtiy blogs. The header says Obama '08. I know the blogs are for whatever purpose the blogger wants to use them for as per the man who provided them. Yet it seems disrespectful to campaign for Clinton using an Obama Community blog. I find inspiration in music and visit You Tube to revisit old motivation tunes to rebuild my spirit brought down by the negaitve vibes sometimes picked up from Obama '08 community.

Yes, the Senator wants us to be nice to her and ignore her nastiness, which is fine and respectful or mannerly. So why must I suffer through the rudeness of Hillary for President supporters on Obama '08 blogs? I repeat: header says OBAMA '08. Thanks for tolerating my rant.

In prior post I spoke about Act Blue and this is the song I wanted to post then, but could not.

That is how I felt watching Obama move on up to overtake Edwards and Clinton. Obama's statement in the morning was simply he thought "we will do well" versus Clinton's "I will win". I have watched the underdog move on up this past year and I want to see him move right on up into the White House in '09. There are wonderful choices for the Vice President nomination. There is no need to bring along old politics for those who want a positive new direction for the future.

I have high hopes that I will not see the C-word on Obama community blogs next time I visit. She does have a way of keeping attention focused on her and off the issues. Why talk about her vote to give GWB the go ahead to invade Iran when we can talk about her spin fairy tales, eh. I do however aprreciate the peope who clued me into "Goldwater Girl", that was info I could use to garner support for Obama.

I wonder if today's school children still get told fables that are meant to teach moral values and ethnics, like The Grasshopper and the Ant. Are books like Animal Farm or 1984 still required reading in High School? Do teenagers discuss ideas in books now-a-days or is it all about "Dancing With the Stars" or "American Idol" or the latest video game and movie release? Cahn and Van Heusen words are corny in today's sophisticated world, I imagine. Yet everytime I hear another person falling for a Clinton spin machine lie, my hope gets low. I would probably do well to stop reading Obama blogger's blogs and stick to his You Tube channel for my daily dose of opptimism. It seems more than a few who do not feel an ant can move a rubber tree plant.

A popular song when I was a kid sung by Frank Sinatra was High Hopes writtne by Cahn/Van Heusen. It was a silly little ditty, but in those days we had songs like Purple People Eater, The Flying Saucer and ow e ow ah ah ting tang wally wally bing bang that were awfully popular on the Hit Parade. As a young adult I found myself singing the lyrics when life's demands were getting me down. Senator Obama gives me those old high hopes all over again.
