After our final effort to get out the vote in the LeMoyne Gardens project of Inkster, MI, we returned to the Obama headquarters jubilant but exhausted. I wanted a beer. I really, really wanted a beer! It was the best reward (besides Obama winning) I could think of. I was pleased that, in the supposedly low-turnout area we had canvassed, everyone we talked to had voted.

My canvassing buddy Donald and I returned to the Inskster, MI Obama campaign headquarters exhausted after canvassing Wayne, MI nearly all day. It was almost 6 p.m., and with the exception of sitting down to eat lunch and sitting on a curb as we waited for our ride, we had been on our feet since noon. I began rubbing my eyes as I felt the exhaustion deep in my bones. I was hungry, and wanted a hot meal, and hoped for a beer.

An OBAMA Moment Early On Election Day November 4, 2008

Early this morning near 18th & Vine in Kansas City, MO a citizen of one of the wealthtiest nations in the world pushed a shopping cart containing all his worldly goods up the same steep hill he climbs each day after freshing up in a water fountain at a nearby park.

The man on the hill who lives his life on the street could detect on election day something special in the air...maybe the righteous wind. Believing in the power of one voice, and community organizing Obama volunteers were canvassing door-to-door even when there was no door, and so the man with the cart received an "Obama '08" sticker.

A moment passed as he studied the sticker. Then, without saying a word this American Patriot moved slowly to the front of his cart and balancing the overflowing cart against his hip, he paused then smiled slightly.

With great care and a look of reverence for what today represents, he carefully placed the OBAMA STICKER front and center on the plastic tarp that protected the contents of the cart.

In the early morning light on Election Day 2008, in a quiet Obama-inspired moment there was shared hope and belief in Barack Obama and in ourselves. A New Day is on the way.

"I am my sisters' keeper. I am my brothers' keeper."

One Voice...

One Love...I am grateful.

Now, let's get back out there and make this happen. The world is watching. We can do this!

Canvassing in Winchester, New Hampshire

Yesterday I went canvassing for Obama—I have a regular shift every Saturday in New Hampshire, a very important state to gain for the upcoming election. I view New Hampshire, which is a few miles from my home in Vermont just across the Connecticut River, as a rare beast, a markedly different entity concerning politics, if you will: in the last election, the state favored Kerry by about 20 percentage points. New Hampshire, in the current race, was up for grabs.

So, there I was, canvassing in New Hampshire yesterday: on a new “turf,” as the campaign calls it. They pair you up with someone, always, so I went with a young friend, Josh. A recent college graduate, paired with a mother of a recent college graduate—we were a formidable team, college funding loans notwithstanding.

Since we were in the small, economically-depressed, and spread-out, towns of Southern New Hampshire, we had to drive. Usually I canvass in Keene, which is urban, and we can walk door-to-door. We set out in my beat-up Subaru, campaign materials and our checklist of voters in hand. We were told at the staging area in the old mill town of Ashuelot, to approach the voters with the Senate campaign of Jean Shaheen and the congressional race of Paul Hodes first—I knew something about both candidates. Josh and I decided to take off our Obama buttons, even though that was our reason for being there, since we didn’t want to appear too eager to talk about Obama right away. Our goal, and the Obama campaign’s goal, is to gather information on the voters, and we worked in our questions methodically, but with a plan and a script to use.

Our first house was owned by a retired 79-year-old registered Democrat. Though she was extremely hard of hearing, we discussed Shaheen’s race, and then she wanted to talk about the presidential campaign. She said she liked both presidential candidates but McCain was too old, and, if something should happen to him, she didn’t want “that inexperienced woman” to run the country. Case closed.

We then went to the apartment around the back and we were invited into the kitchen of a mother and child. The child, a boy aged six, promptly yelled that he was “for Obama!” while the mother shushed him. She said she was undecided. Our approach was very low-keyed—we don’t want to be too pushy. I gave her a handout about Obama, which is an excellent piece that talks about who he is and where he came from. She was hesitant, standing there in her sunny kitchen, with her six-year-old son doing karate chops in the air chanting, “I’m voting for Obama.”

As I was getting ready to leave, she and I marked the voting sheet together, while Josh chatted amicably about all the good things that the Obama/Biden ticket would do for the economy, our country, etc. We checked off all the Democrats running for office, Shaheen, Hodes, until we came to the presidential box. She hesitated and she said, “I’m for Obama.”

Dede Cummings is a noted book designer and five-time winner of the New England Book Award for her design and typography. She studied literature at Middlebury College. She is owner and art director of the Brattleboro, Vermont firm, DCDESIGN. She is married with three children, ages 23, 20, and 16. Her hobbies include hiking, writing, running, reading, nordic and backcountry skiing. She lives with her family in a house her husband, Steve Carmichael built himself in West Brattleboro, Vermont.

Last night in Des Moines, Obama supporters held a Get Out the Vote Rally with special guests Governor Chet Culver, Senator Tom Harkin, Congressman Leonard Boswell, Lieutenant Governor Patty Judge and other elected officials.

It's Time to Get Out the Vote

For a volunteer, sometimes canvassing and making phone calls can feel like a strange endeavor. Sometimes people have already made up their minds, or they're undecided but don't want to talk about politics. Why try to talk to people who might rather be left alone?

Because it all leads up to now. Because some people were undecided and curious; they just wanted to hear what someone else had to say. Because that conversation can plant a seed in someone's head. Because now the campaign knows who is on board and who isn't, and it's just a matter of getting out the vote. All the voters Barack needs have been identified--now it's just a matter of getting them to the polls. This video breaks down what Get-Out-the-Vote is all about, and how important it is:

I have that anxious feeling in my stomach. I am both working hard on this campaign - phone calls and phone calls - and sometimes just sitting still, terrified almost.

I keep one thought in my mind as we move forward. It's a favorite childhood book, The Little Train that Could, reminding,"I think I can, I think I can, I think I can." This time, however, its "Yes, we can. Yes, we can. Yes, we can."

In my childhood life, the story of a circus that couldn't come to town seemed tragic. As an adult, with children of her own, I feel the circus came, stayed too long, and turned into a nightmare. We are on cusp of historic change. This election will define the story, the narrative, of my country's future, the one my children will inherit as their ordinary real life. Will this country embrace a bleak, rigid, fundamentalist and restrictive view of human freedom and potential that regulates our poulation into two stark categories of good and bad? Or will we choose a riskier, open, flexible and expansive view of human freedom and potential that integrates our population into a complex fabric that is one America?

No one of us can make this decision for our country. We can however choose to work on behalf of our choice - and let the couarge and passion of our conviction be a light that others can follow.

Call. Knock on doors. Donate if you can. Call. Support and encourage other voters. Most importantly, VOTE! "I think we can, I think we can, I think we can . . . "

Lavery Getting Out the Vote

One of our best and most inspirational supporters here in Iowa is Lavery. He’s 82 and comes in everyday to make phone calls for at least 3-4 hours. And the only reason he leaves the office is because his oxygen tank runs low. He’s signed up to volunteer for everyday of GOTV and well as all day on Election Day--- and he will bring extra oxygen tanks so he can stay all day.

How are you helping to get out the vote?

We asked him what was inspiring him to get involved in this election:

“Barack is young, intelligent, with new ideas. I saw him in Le Claire Park and something told me this is the man I should vote for.
I cannot keep supporting him financially so I needed another way to do it. I am 82 and retired. I have done everything I have wanted to do in life. This campaign has given me new purpose in life. Also, I can tell people I worked for the President.”

We are in great Position to put the person this country needs in the whitehouse, but it will not be easy we have to keep working GET OUT THE VOTE! This campaign has the greatest supporters in the world,simply amazing from every part of this country, and Senator Obama is going to represent that diversity and UNITY of our nation, he wlll always work tirelessly for the American people, and he will always be honest with the American people about what we are facing. These are hard times, and Obama knows it, he understands, he gets it. He is going to have a lot, alot to handed to him; two wars that have a lot of problems, the economy, homes being lost, jobs, the debt! yeah and we need jobs and clean energy too. its a lot, it is, and you know, I know, we all know, that senator Obama is the right person to take on this challenge with us! these things have been lagging and brewing under the neglect and ideology of the past 8 years so It will be hard, but Obama is up to the task, he is ready, willing, and able to lead us through the trouble, to take it on and to change politics, and use his smarts, his heart, and his love for this country to make America strong!

Vote Early, Vote Often

Will Barack Obama win by a landslide and usher our nation into a new era? Will John McCain win in an upset proving we are even more imperfect a union than we’ve recently allowed ourselves to believe?

Yes, I hear the same reporting about polls that you do. Yes, Obama is heavily favored to win. But when I allow myself to imagine our nation on 11/5 if McCain wins, I am so deeply saddened that I am motivated to do all I can to support Obama’s election. If Barack Obama loses, despite being so strongly favored in the polls at this late date, there will be no way of denying that the evil power of racial hatred and fear holds our nation hostage. In that scenario, the damage caused by a McCain administration’s misguided policies pales in comparison to the tragic demoralization of our nation and loss of hope for my children’s future.

Is the nation really so post-racial that the Bradley Effect no longer exists? Are our old polling systems accurate reflections of this unique election? Will all the newly registered Democratically skewed voters really show up? Will Obama voters in the western states, which are keystones in several likely victory paths for Obama, just stay home if early east-coast returns look promising? Will old people show up in far greater numbers than young people, as is typically the case, and hand FL and PA to McCain? Will Republican Party tricksters and demons find enough ways to eliminate enough votes to swing OH red again? The US Supreme Court just stepped in earlier this month and told Ohio's Republican Party they did not have jurisdiction to enforce a federal election law in a manner that would have disenfranchised a disproportionate amount of Democratic voters. Without being too much of a conspiracy theorist, it's sadly true that our elections have been tampered with in the past and could be again.

We don’t have early voting in NY and without committing voter fraud you cannot vote more than once. But the title of this posting is sincere. I encourage you today, and everyday until the election, to dramatically increase the power of your individual vote by calling voters in swing states. If you already are making calls, fantastic. Your phone call may be enough motivation to get someone in Ohio or Colorado or Florida to make the trip to the voting booth and wait in a long line next Tuesday. The other night I hosted a group of Women for Obama to watch Obama’s infomercial and call voters in Colorado. We placed 180 calls. Of course, most voters weren’t home, didn’t answer, or didn’t live at that number, but like sales, retail campaigning is all a numbers game. Go to barackobama.com and you can call voters in a swing state and even a specific demographic that speaks to you (Senior to Senior, Women to Women, Italian to Italian…) The website walks you through step-by-step on how to place a call. I intend to call more voters over the weekend and on Monday. If you've never done it before, don't be afraid. Most people I've spoken with are friendly and understand you are a volunteer, not a telemarketer trying to sell them anything. Yeah, it feels a little weird, but think of it as your chance to vote more than once and to vote in a battleground state.

Please vote early and vote often.

Dear Georgians

Good news:
More than half of the registered voters in many states have already voted!!! That means we know where the voting problems are and...we'll probably know the results ELECTION NIGHT! Also, the turnout is HUGE!!!!!! (See pictures at link below)

Bad news:
You know who else knows the early voting results? Georgia Secretary of State, Karen Handel...who is a Republican (who is NOT an Obamacan).

Karen Handel has vowed to challenge every vote in GA. She just signed an Executive Order that says anyone can challenge any vote or voter.

TO GEORGIANS WHO HAVEN'T VOTED YET

She sent out letters to almost 5,000 registered voters saying they have to file "challenge" ballots on Election Day. "Challenge" is another word for provisional ballot. Don't be fooled! They just want to give people provisional ballots which will be challenged by a panel made up of mostly Republicans. Guess what the verdict will be? Whatever you do, DON'T TAKE A PROVISIONAL BALLOT!!!

If you have received this letter from Karen Handel, report it to the Obama campaign immediately at (866) 675-2008, so the team can send lawyers to challenge this on your behalf.

If you haven't already voted, check your local registration office to make sure you're eligible to vote.

Volunteers at Barack's Early Vote Rally in Des Moines

Hundreds of volunteers have already poured into the event and Get Out the Vote signup sheets are passing through the crowd. Music is being pumped in through several large sets of speaks placed strategically around the park and we’re hearing chants of Fired Up! Ready to Go!

There is a great atmosphere here, and some of the groups in these pictures are of Obama Organizing Teams. Here in Iowa, because of the intense organizing during the caucuses, tens of thousands of volunteers already knew each other, and these grassroots groups have formed as the foundation of our Get out the Vote efforts. Just wanted to point out that this website makes it very easy to call voters. Just click on 'Contact Voters', pick an event (try to hit Indiana or Florida), print out your call list, and then make some calls! It's easy to do and something that really helps out. We're getting close and we should all act as if we're 10-points down versus 7-points ahead. If we can hold onto PA, VA, and FL then there's a really good chance that we win the White House. Make the calls people. Oh and if you can, and only if you can, please make one more $5 donation before the weekend everyone.

Tomorrow, October 31st, Governor Jennifer M. Granholm will speak at a Get Out The Vote Canvass Kick-Off in Traverse City to mobilize and energize Michigan voters. With only five days until the election, Barack Obama’s Campaign for Change is taking nothing for granted in Michigan. Tomorrow’s event is the campaign’s latest attempt to inform and motivate voters across the state, in a campaign that continues to gain momentum and fight for every last vote in the state, in the lead up to November 4th.

In Grand Rapids, Michigan House Speaker Pro Tempore Michael G. Sak will join with other Grand Rapids area elected officials to show their support for Barack. They will talk about how Barack's plan for jobs, tax relief, energy independence, and health care reform will bring the change West Michigan needs.

And, since it's Halloween, we'll be holding "Trick-or-Vote" canvasses kicking off on college campuses around Michigan. Volunteers dressed in Halloween costumes will canvass their communities, encouraging supporters to help us Get Out The Vote in this crucial period! We'll also be encouraging those who are eligible to vote absentee - especially since November 1st, the day after, is the only Saturday where clerks will be open for absentee voting.

I am so pleased to support Senator Obama. With Senator Obama in the White House, Michigan will finally have a friend in the White House, and a leader who cares about the issues that matter most to me and all Michiganians. At a time when our automotive industry is facing unprecedented challenges, Senator Obama has pledged to partner with our automobile industry to help them research the fuel-efficient hybrid cars that will help America become energy independent. At a time when we've just passed legislation to help make Michigan the alternative energy capital of America, Senator Obama will invest in wind, solar, hydroelectric, and other clean forms of energy that Michigan is uniquely poised to lead in. He will finally enforce fair trade policies after the disastrous last eight years that have seen Michigan's jobs go on a slow boat to China, on the Internet to India, or on a fast track to Mexico. And finally, Senator Obama will unite Americans who are tired of the divisiveness that have helped the select few at the expense of the great many. I am proud to support Senator Obama for president, because I know Senator Obama will make our whole nation proud after such a catastrophic presidency for our nation.

I was in Muskegon, Grand Rapids, and Ionia on Sunday campaigning for Barack, kicked off a canvass in Brighton on Monday, and I'll be phone banking in Farmington Hills tonight. The enthusiasm for Barack - even in traditionally "red" parts of the state - is incredible. With so much at stake in this election, for Michigan and our country, it's so important to keep volunteering, to keep the momentum the Obama campaign has built in Michigan going. When I see such incredible support for Barack in West Michigan and Livingston County, I know that this campaign has tapped into something special, and we can't let all of those ready for change and hope down.

We need all of you to do as much as you can to ensure Senator Obama is our next president. There are over sixty Campaign for Change offices open around the state, and each one needs your help calling your neighbors, knocking on doors, and spreading the word about the positive change Senator Obama will bring to Michigan, and all of America.

"I Made History, I Voted" Campaign

We had a great attempt at turnout for Early Voting these past few weeks, but it was made difficult to access for many voters with long lines, in-accessible hours, etc.

It's clear that the Republican goal is to drive down voting in key states by forcing everyone to have to go through a very hard time to vote.

You can be sure that the long lines this Tuesday will only drive voters away... Unless they believe this is something they have to do.

We can make this a historic moment that you HAVE TO be a part of or you'll forever regret it.

Drive people to vote by emphasizing that people will forever ask you if you voted and that you will be able to tell your grandkids, years from now, that you voted in this historic election.

"It's time for the last big drum beat to rally the troops and the faithful."

We need to drive it home that it is so important to vote people should go to extraordinary lengths: take time off from work, get a babysitter, get up early, ask for a ride to the polls, dress warmly, bring an umbrella, take the family, etc.

If our voters are willing to stand in the rain or the snow waiting to vote for hours on end, we might just have a chance to defeat the supression.

Maybe we can counter the Republican plan and make it blow up in their faces with this being an epic event everyone who is anyone needs to be a part of.

Remember Star Wars: Episode 1 tickets went on sale? How people would line up for hours just to get tickets? Honestly, I had more fun in line waiting overnight to buy tickets than I did watching the movie.

We need some of that magic. Because, after this election, I want to hear people say, "I Made History. I Voted."

7 Days and Counting... What is your plan?

So what is your plan for closing out this campaign? You weren't thinking about sitting around watching football next weekend??? No way, this election is too close and there is too much fun to be had talking to our neighbors to get out the vote for Obama.

Here is the checklist to free up your time to support dual shifts Saturday through Tuesday, November 1-4:

1. Get your absentee vote to the Board of Elections before October 28th (today!). Like they say in the airplane with the oxygen masks, you got to help yourself before you can help others.

2. Schedule leave or get time off from school

3. Get motivated and listen to Obama's 30 minute special on Thursday from 8:00PM to 8:30PM on CBS, NBC, and UNIVISION. Think of it like a peep rally before the big home-coming game!

4. Drop the kids, dog, cat, assorted reptiles, birds, etc, off with the in-laws, mom/dad or grandma/grandpa.

5. Sign up with the campaign to walk/drive/call/whatever. I'm scheduled to be in Gloucester for the duration. If you don't know where you might do the most good, volunteer to help at one of the 16 battle ground states through the Obama page. Sign your friends up too!

6. Check the weather... looking cool but no rain for Gloucester, VA, this weekend!

7. Stock up on power bars and cup of noodles, pack you bag with your tooth brush and extra strength deodorant.

8. Play one last game of Obama Policy Jeopardy with your friends to sharpen up on Barack's plans

9. Gas up the car, check the oil, and get to where you need to be.

10. Get out there and make history!

Right now we are all feeling confident and good about where we are at, and that is great, but what we have to remember is that the score is zero to zero, we have not won anything yet, and the most important thing is that everyone keep working, and help everybody get the vote out! We have been through so much, and done so much and brought our dreams right up to the edge of happening, and now it is not the time to stop or stumble it is the time to fulfill our rendezvous with destiny and go above and beyond and do everything we can within our integrity and principles that have guided us all through this campaign, and do the work that is needed for one more week, at our peak level to fulfill the beginning of a new promise for America, a promise for all of us and for the future; for the children. There is much more work to be done once Obama is in office, but none of that can be started or thought about until he is in office; which means, business first - we get the job done! Ignore Polls -- Make Sure Every Vote Counts

In the last days of the presidential campaign there are 2 things that make me anxious -- polls that indicate Obama leads McCain in the race and stories about problems at the voting polls.

While there's much noise about "voter registration fraud," which is practically non-existent, the real threats to voting integrity in the United States are (1) low voter turnout and (2) voting equipment that is faulty, tampered with, or inadequate to the task.

So here's my advice to all the people who want Barack Obama to be the next president of the United States:

POLLS? Forget the polls -- it's votes that count. If you can vote before Election Day, vote, and then spend election day getting out the vote (GOTV) for Obama/Biden. I voted the first day of early/absentee voting in DC because I plan to spend November 4 getting out the vote in the battleground state of VA.

Even if you are not in a battleground state or are unable to travel to one, you can support other voters by showing up to the polls. There will be many first-time voters who may find the voting process and ballots confusing, and unfortunately poll workers aren't always able to answer questions.

VOTING PROBLEMS? Several organizations are working to help ensure that every person who votes has their vote counted and in the way that they voted. Here are a few to check out:

The NAACP has an election protection website where you can learn more about protecting your vote and the votes of other citizens. The URL is 866ourvote.org/

Video the Vote enables people to document voter problems at the election polls and upload their videos to YouTube. Sure you could do it on your own as well, but there's greater power in people acting together. Sign-up at videothevote.org, and you will also receive training in how to do accountable video documentation at the polls.

Voter Action (voteraction.org) has a petition folks can sign to encourage Congress to investigate the private voting systems companies. Remember FL 2000 and Ohio 2004? There are still questions about the integrity of the voting machines used in those elections. Let your elected representatives know that you care about protecting voters and voting from the control of private companies who have proven to be unreliable in ensuring fairness and accuracy in the electoral process.

As I learn of more groups engaged in election protection I will post them. My last word for today is take action to ensure both an Obama/Biden victory and that every vote cast counts.

In 2 weeks, Palin will still be stupid

I haven't written in a while simply because I don't think anyone is reading my posts. However, I thought I would catch up with a few shorts posts all at once.

1. I attended the Obama rally in Roanoke last week. Very rainy and wet, but worth the wait. I was thrilled to be around so many who thought like I do. The shocker is that I am a lifelong Republican. Did I change or did the party shift to include me? I think a little of both.

2. While this campaign feels like it is taking forever to end, now is the time to become more active than ever. I have found several people who were voting McCain simply because they liked Palin. However, a serious discussion on the issues has changed every one of them (at least to my face) to support Obama. Talk to your friends about politics. It does work.

3. In two weeks, Sarah Palin will still be stupid and John McCain will still be eratic. I say this because there are lots of people out there who are afraid the GOP is going to make a comeback. They will try, but the reality is that they are down now because they are on the wrong side of the issues. They are on the wrong side of the issues because that is who they are. They cannot change their nature in the final two weeks.

4. Finally, if you really believe Obama is the best person for the job at this time, then you must vote. I know we are way ahead, but getting out to vote is so important right now. The GOP is going to push hard at churches, neighborhoods and book burnings to get their people to the polls. You need to do the same.

Just finished listening to Neighbor to Neighbor Webinar

I just finished listening to the Neighbor to Neighbor webinar and I'm going to start making calls to Indiana as soon as I finish dinner. I would start calling Florida tonight, but they are on Eastern time and I am on Central time. Indiana is still on the same time zone as I am for at least a few more days to a week. We change to and from daylight savings time and Indiana doesn't.

My grandparents, great grandparents, mother, father and sister are from Indiana, and my aunt, uncle and some cousins still live there and vote there, so I feel I have more of a connection with Indiana. I'm also a Republican for Obama, and many Hoosiers are Republicans, so I can connect well with them on that note.

I have plans to change to the Democratic party as soon as this election cycle is over to protest the direction the Republican party has taken. But for now, I want my solid voter registration to stay intact so I can vote without incident on Nov. 4 if I can't get over to the early voting office this week in Baton Rouge.

I'm going to heat up some leftovers and get busy on my computer. I think I can make my laptop microphone work and use my headphones and I shouldn't create any feedback. If I have problems, I'll get a USB headset tomorrow and start calling again tomorrow evening.

I can't afford to give money, but I can give my time and effort to help make sure Barack Obama is our next President.

The United States is a melting pot for people from almost every country on the planet. Which means that every country has at least one family member or friend who is a citizen of the United States.

I would like to create a movement in these important last days of the campaign to urge all countries around the world to exhort their families and friends who are citizens of the United States to VOTE, FIRST OF ALL, and of course, vote for Obama/Biden ticket.

From Albania to Zimbabwe and all countries in between - text/email/blog/skype/call your families and friends, citizens of the United States and remind, urge, implore, tell them to VOTE. VOTE EARLY, VOTE NOVEMBER 4, 2008, VOTE, VOTE, VOTE...

Keeping our energy level up during the last two weeks of this campaign!

When I was in my senior year of high school, I starred in our class play -- "Sweet Charity." Nashua Senior High School put on the production, which featured James Middleton as Vittorio VIdal. (Sorry -- I can't remember the names of the other actors.)

I remember how on night one, things went great. We all sang beautifully, scene changes were crisp and quick, and lines came out like they were supposed to.

On night two, after being admonished "don't lose the energy!" of course -- we lost the energy. People forgot lines, scenes got almost wrecked, and my singing -- although I recall was still good -- suffered because I forgot to turn my wireless microphone on. The stage crew responded by raising the stage mics, but some people in the audience couldn't hear me very well, according to some of my friends. (Maybe it was a good thing -- depending on whether you liked my singing voice...)

The point is that it IS difficult to keep your energy up. But we could have avoided this, if we had remembered to make a checklist before going on for night two.

Think of this election as being a lot like "night two." Make your checklist now, or even in a week. Refer to it often. On electtion day, make sure to take it WITH YOU everywhere that you go. Having a piece of paper, an iPhone, a Blackberry, or any other personal note-taking implement will help you. The idea is to avoid either forgetting important things or panicking when you realize that you have forgotten something -- and can't remember what it was.

That's it. I believe that we CAN WIN THIS THING -- but in the 24 hours leading up to election day, the only thing that we must remember is to GET OUT THE VOTE. Period. If that isn't clear, simple, and easy enough to remember, then forget it -- and just do it anyway.

Also, if you are disabled and need a ride to the polls, or need help with a ballot, then be sure to contact your Obama state / city office. And if you can help someone else, then be sure to offer your assisatance. For my part, I'm hoping to vote absentee in Massachusetts, and then travel on the 4th to New Hampshire to help coordinate their GOTV efforts.

Obama is leading, and following the public lead; the economy and issues around that are #1 right now. Obama has smartly brought out an economic plan that speaks to votes concerns, and he is showing leadership, and after the debates people are comfortable with Obama as Commander in Chief. Obama is on his game, no reason to give mccain extra credit by dissing anything he has done at this point, best bet is address issues when needed but stay focused on the economy and Obamas strong leadership skills that we need now as he shows the country a president that is going to unite America; not red, not blue, one America with a strong future that will involve all of us doing are part, the president, the congress, and the people. And we as Obama supporters must do our best now to get every to go out and vote!

I've added a few things to the Obama Prayer Cards site.

There are now two cards for each selection. Why waste the paper? Keep one and give one away. There's also a little mixing and matching available.

I've also added a prayer for getting out the vote. It's not all that original, as I just kludged together three existing prayers, including one for community organizing. There was no saint acting as an intermediary for that one, even if it is a Catholic prayer.

Plus I've made a crappy banner for the get out the vote drive using my very own, and singular pill font:

This is how we win.

Approximately 600 organizers, in one room, treated to a detailed manual, a dynamic visual presentation, and a strong voice at the front, all informing them exactly what to do in the next few weeks, to make sure that every single supporter casts their vote for Barack Obama.

That may sound less-than-stimulating to most people, but this crew is proud to call themselves community organizers, and jump at the opportunity to share ideas and absorb knowledge on how to effectively mobilize their area to get them to the polls to make change. To say that they're fired up is putting it mildly. This is their livelihood. This is what they do, and what they've spent every waking hour doing for the last several weeks, months, and for some, even years.

And as is the Obama field team motto, they were respected, empowered, and included. Respected, by being allowed a time for each to tell their story of why they are working for change, and being trusted to take what was learned today and adapting it to each community. Empowered, by being armed with an arsenal of meticulously thought out materials and presented with G.O.T.V. simulations that problem-solve every possible issue that could come up on Election Day. And included, by bringing them into the conversation with the biggest names in the movement. Today they were visited by Governor Ted Strickland, Senator Sherrod Brown... and, oh yeah, this guy:

That's right--Barack Obama himself, after two rallies today in Chillicothe and Columbus, took time off his schedule to meet with six hundred people in Ohio... whose votes he can surely count on. He met with them because these are some of the people working the hardest for him in the whole country, let alone Ohio. He met with them because community organizing and the power of it is fundamental not only to his own personal biography, but also to the philosophy of this campaign. He met with them because even after November 4th, after the votes have been gotten out, change will start from the bottom up.

This is how we win. Get out your own vote, and then you can be a part.

Louisiana is now a tossup state based on current polling data, one that has been deep red for a long time. As an independent voter, one who does not belong to any political party, I remain encouraged about this as I think that a change in the political landscape presents an opportunity for those who are all over the political spectrum.

There are a few points of disagreement I have with Barack Obama and while he will not always make decisions I agree with, I believe that those decisions will be made with due consideration and in consultation with people who view different angles of an issue. This stands in stark contrast to the leadership we've had for the last few decades.

1. When we talk to people lets suggest that they meet with their family and friends, which could be a simple coffee and donut party on the weekend then go vote. Or, an after Vote BBQ.

2. Lunch time shuttle to the local library

Whoa, there, all of you well-meaning friends and family who, in the past two weeks, have been sending me some of the most hilarious belly-laughing Palin-based humor--from the Couric interviews, to debate Bingo cards filled with maverick, you-betcha, and by golly. You're getting us nowhere fast, and the McCain ticket is diminishing the slim DEM lead in a number of the Obama Campaign's must-win battleground states.

Instead of wasting your time (and mine) with these forwards, I urge you to walk on down to your nearest Obama headquarters and volunteer you time. Phone banks are operating practically 24/7. If you don't want to leave home, no problem. You can volunteer from your computer desk by clicking the barackobama.com site, signing up to help, and calling voters in the battleground states. Get unregistered voters to register (the last day for voter registration states in many states is October 6th) and encourage undecided voters to vote for the Democratic candidates so we can take back our country. The Campaign has masterfully assembled lists of the voters we need to speak to.

I got a call from my sister the other day, a bit distraught, and she was asking me, "What else can I do? I'm losing sleep at night thinking that the Republicans could still win this!"

There are a number of things one can do to help out during these last four weeks of the campaign. Here is what I have been doing:

Donate anything you can to the Obama campaign. I have given the maximum amount to the campaign that an individual is allowed, but I started off with a small donation of $25. This makes a huge difference!
Set up a profile on http://my.barackobama.com/ and get connected with people in your area--especially if you live in a swing state! There are lots of events you can get involved with through this site right here, so take a look around.
Blog if you are so inclined. It has really helped me sort out my thoughts, and it also gives me a way of bookmarking links and encapsulating thoughts in a way that can be reused and shared again.

The only thing i don't believe in doing is traveling to other states to influence voters. I saw a documentary earlier this year about some people from New York who traveled down to Allentown, PA to talk to swing voters, and how that strategy backfired.

Nevertheless, I do believe in get-out-the-vote campaigns in places where citizens may be struggling to secure their own basic right to vote. If you can get involved in that in a state other than your own, I admire your willingness to help out your fellow Democrats!

Download Michael Moore’s New Film “Slacker Uprising” Free Tomorrow

If you didn’t receive the e-mail announcement or see anything in the media, Michael Moore is making his new film, Slacker Uprising, available for free downloads all day tomorrow, Sept. 23, beginning at midnight.

“It's one of my contributions to help get out the vote November 4th,” Moore said in a letter to his e-mail list.

That’s why he’s giving “blanket permission” for anyone to download the film, e-mail it, burn it and “share it with anyone and everyone in the U.S. and Canada.” Moore’s distributor told him he is turning his back on roughly $40-million in ticket and DVD sales by giving the movie away.

The film premiered in Ann Arbor MI last Thursday to crowds that stretched around the block beginning five hours before the first screening.

There are four ways to download the film on Tuesday:

1. Blip.tv will provide standard resolution streaming, free of commercials and advertising.
2. Amazon Video on Demand will provide a high quality version of the above stream.
3. iTunes allows anyone to download "Slacker Uprising" on their iTunes, iPod, or Apple TV and view it either there or on a television.
4. Hypernia.com is providing bandwidth, servers and management to host Slacker Uprising online; it can be downloaded and viewed any time, or burned onto a DVD.

There are no ads in the film and all suppliers agreed to supply their services for free. A trailer can be seen today at http://slackeruprising.com/.

What Can One Do To Help Barack Obama?

What one can do to help Barack Obama is simple, help get out the vote. Here in Indianapolis this may present some obstacles, because of the diversity of ethnic groups and social-economic classes in the metro-community. Also, it must be kept in mind that the Democrats have a tendency to be coalitions or groups that have different values and goals but they are united in their belief in freedom of speech, Liberty and individualism. There may even be an anarchist among our ranks. However, remember the free flow of ideas in American society is what has made us the greatest country in the world.

I would like to share with you a true story from my personal life. When I graduated from high School, I wanted to celebrate the event by having a graduation party and invited all of my friends. Well needless to say my friends were a wide range of people-a very diverse group of individuals-something I had not considered in the planning. Having a good time at the party became a challenge, because people formed into clicks and did not really socialize with those outside. I spent most of the night trying to get people to talk or dance with someone sitting alone. I also found out that I had a gift to be able to reach such a wide group. This party was my first social disaster. So I can appreciate any one who hosted a Barack Oboma party and it did not turn out as great as expected. Barack appreciates a wide range of different types of people and socializes with them on a one to one basis, but when you put them all together at once it may crash, I have been there done that. I can also appreciate someone’s hesitancy to reach out and contact a stranger here in Indianapolis, Indiana for those reasons. But this reaching out to others is what we can do to help our candidate, Barack Obama win big. We can be the living proof of his message of change by reaching out.

Therefore, I urge you to help Barack by identifying your comfort zone limits and work on broadening them to include others that you had not considered ever approaching as Barack Obama’s candidacy exemplifies a man doing just that and he will win big. I hope by sharing this experience with you that I can break the ice and helped others overcome the fear of reaching out to their neighbors for help. I have noticed to many people on this website with straight zero in their activities column including donations. I made my first five dollars donation with an ATM card, which in no way threaten my comfort zone.(Smile)

Throughout recent years it seems as though the Democratic Party has turned it's back on the Democrats of Texas. For no logical reason whatsoever this state continues to go as a red state with small patches of blue here and there.

By no logical reason whatsoever I mean that Texas has one of the lowest per capita incomes in the United States, Unionization is routinely trampled on. We hold one of the highest Hispanic populations in the US, our educational system is one of the lowest rated in this country.

I grew up in San Antonio and I remember as a child seeing people that would get up off of their butts and make things happen. La Raza Unida, NAACP, MALDEF...where are your voices to be heard? We have to get up off of our butts, we have to be heard, we have to raise hell! We cannot loose this election to the Republicans again! We have to support our local candidates because strength can only be built on a strong foundation. They need your support so that we can once again take back Texas in the proud tradition of LBJ.

Why Obama Will Win (Part 2): Democrats have registered more voters

"Nationwide, there are about 42 million registered Democrats and about 31 million Republicans, according to statistics compiled by The Associated Press.

The Democrats have posted big gains in many competitive states, including Nevada, New Hampshire, Iowa, Colorado and Florida. They have also been targeting historically Republican southern states.

Since 2006, the Democrats have added 167,000 voters in North Carolina, while the Republicans have added 36,000. The Democrats' biggest voter registration goal is in Georgia, where the Obama campaign hopes to register 500,000 voters before the election, said Dean, who has spent the past month traveling the country on a voter registration bus tour.

"The Obama folks are serious about Georgia," Dean said. Georgia has added 337,000 voters since 2006, but the state does not identify them by party affiliation.

In Pennsylvania, the Democrats have added 375,000 voters since 2006 while the Republicans have lost 117,000."

PA shows the stark contrast. In PA, between April-August of 2008, Republicans registered 289 new Republicans. Democrats registered 98,137 new Democrats. Even if 90% don't show up that'll still be a greater number than the Repubs if all 289 of their April-August registrants show up.

"Since President George W. Bush's reelection in November 2004, the Democrats have gained nearly 700,000 registered voters while the Republicans have lost nearly 1 million."

Thanks to all the Barack Obama supporters who came out in their Obama finery to participate in the largest fun run in the world, the Sydney City To Surf race!

We had a gorgeous day for the race and would have been seen by hundreds if not thousands of other participants (70,000+ registered for the race this year).

We handed out as many "Tell An American To Vote - Send them to www.VoteFromAbroad.org" cards as we could manage without tripping up, and the Obama balloons went down a treat! (And also helped keep us from losing each other in the massive crowds!)

I would strongly recommend Obama supporters to consider getting a group together to walk in fun runs and hand out leaflets on upcoming campaign events. If there are enough of you I'm sure you'll be generating a lot of press attention as well!

Yesterday, in our local offices all across South Dakota, we held barbecues to thank our supporters for everything they have been doing to help get their friends, family, and neighbors out to vote early.

There are only 8 days left before the Primary, and only 7 days left of Early Voting—we need everyone helping to get out the vote! You can sign up online and one of our organizers will help you get involved—even if you've never knocked on a door, or made a get out the vote phone call—we’ll make it easy and fun—and you'll be making a big difference in your community!

We held a barbecue at our state headquarters in Sioux Falls right before kicking off one of our afternoon canvasses. Senator Scott Heidepriem was in attendance and gave a passionate speech about our need to come together as Democrats and work for the change we all want to see in Washington. After his speech, Senator Heidepriem went out to knock on doors and talk about why he thinks Barack should be our next president. In fact, he also signed up for several more shifts this week and continued to stress after his speech that as Democrats, we must meet face to face with our neighbors, and listen to our community at large.

The afternoon really fired everyone up, and especially the work from another Senator who believes in the power of a grassroots campaign. If you haven’t had a chance yet, we encourage you to find your local office and stop by. We also need everyone to start signing up for get out the vote shifts. Another Reason to Veto Clinton

The Democratic Party cannot afford to give the nomination to Clinton. The “Get Out the Vote” campaign spent several years attempting to get young voters interested in politics. There was little success. Now the young voters are out and voting. A quick look at the exit polls show they are coming out in record numbers to vote for Obama. The same is occurring with the black vote. Both of these groups have historically been members of the Democratic Party but rarely active participants. These are groups the party needs in order to have a real presence and future in politics. If Clinton gets the nomination all the youth and black voters will again be disenfranchised - confirming their previous belief that their voices and votes do not count. This will push these voters back into the “closet” and the Democratic Party will lose them again until someone else can inspire voters like John Kennedy did and Barack Obama is doing. History tells us such a candidate is few and far between.

I just received a call from a number listed as 000-000-0000. It is not okay that this person represented themselves as working for Power PAC, and asked me if I was going to vote for Obama.

I do not appreciate receiving unsolicited phone calls on my cell phone. I do not use my phone as an answering service for database spammers. I was working, using my phone for a very specific purpose.

Consider this experience damage against your own campaign - whether or not you were ultimately responsible for it. And it's not an effective get out/ don't get out the vote tactic. It's phone harassment.

Report from the Front Lines: Concord GOTV

I’ve been dropping by some of our staging areas in Concord to watch our unprecedented grassroots movement in action.

Volunteers are pounding the pavement to get Barack supporters to the polls, making phone calls between shifts to persuade late deciders to vote for change.

One of these volunteers, 18 year-old Ariel from New York, will be casting her first ever vote for Barack Obama in her state’s February 5th primary. She traveled to New Hampshire to volunteer for Barack because she understands New Hampshire’s defining role to play in choosing the next president.

“I think people are really open to his vision around here. They’re really receptive,” she said, “We definitely worked hard, but I think it’ll pay off.”

At my second stop in Concord, I spoke with Gerri, a social psychologist and organizational consultant. She said that Barack’s Iowa victory speech moved her to tears, adding, “There’s an extra layer of passion here that I have not witnessed since Kennedy.”

From one staging area to the next, I am witnessing the same thing: everyone is fired up and ready to go as voter turnout in the primary approaches record levels.

Former SC State Rep. & Candidate for Lt. Governor Robert Barber Endorses Barack

This afternoon, Robert Barber, South Carolina's Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor and the top Democratic vote-getter in 2006, endorsed Barack Obama and the historic grassroots campaign he's building across South Carolina.

In a press conference in the campaign's Low Country Field office in Charleston, Barber said that he supported Barack because,

"He has shown, as a leader, the ability and the willingness to work with people, whether of another political persuasion or not, on issues that are critical to the security and well-being of people all across our country...and there's not a lot of that that goes in the Senate ... [In Barack,] we've got someone who is exciting people across party lines and instilling confidence in people about the political process and, ultimately, that's something that will make our country stronger."

At the end of his announcement, a reporter asked Barber, what he planned to do for Barack over the next few weeks leading up to South Carolina Democratic Primary on January 26. His reply?

"I'll do some campaigning, sure, but I'm going to do whatever it takes to get Barack elected... I'm going to be a vigorous and enthusiastic volunteer."
