Are YOU giving up??

It seems to me that during the election and right after the election, everyone was excited and ready to get things done. Now it seems like it's hard to even find a meeting in which people can get together and discuss how we can help make changes happen. I am not finding any events in my area or people that would be willing to come to an event if I were to host one.

I have spoken to people (that said they wanted change) who have given up on our president (who they voted for) and everything we have worked so hard to accomplish. Their reason for this - they have not seen any change. This I can not believe is coming out of their mouths... really. It has been what, just months - MONTHS. Do they have any idea what so ever the amount of clean-up that needs to be done?? Do they really and truly think things will change over night?? Especially since they have given up and that means more work for everyone else to do. These people believed in and voted for Barack Obama. How can they give up so easily? How can they not see the work that needs to be done and their roll in it as an individual that wants change? Why dont they understand? These things frustrate me beyond belief. But the answer is, we need to find a way to help them understand. Help them to see what needs to be done to make change happen. Sometimes people just don't get it, they don't understand, they can't see it. So it is our jobs as American citizens to help our fellow Americans understand. We need to be talking to our friends and neighbors. Tell them to call their senators and tell them what they want for their communities. There are many things we can be doing.

People want change, but it's like they want other people to make it happen for them. This is your country, you want change then stand up and say so. Do something to help make it happen. Those people in office are there working for YOU. You put them there to represent YOUR voice. What is it you want them to say that YOU want??? Tell them what you want. It's what being American gives you the PRIVILEGE to do!

So maybe we are all sitting around thinking the same thing. We 'want' to do something, but we might have questions on how to get started, or how to approach things - or whatever the question might be. That is why we get together and talk about it, put our heads together and come up with great solutions. We are Americans and can accomplish great things - together.

Remember we are the UNITED states of America.

Perhaps because we are best when we come together.

My First Time Hosting an Event

Hello friends,

I am just going to let you how my first time as an event's Host went. To tel you the truth it was not like I expected it to be, but I learned from it, and next time I will be more prepared. We went to a K-Mart store located in Bellflower on Rosescrans and McNab , CA and we could not hand out pledges because for them to let us do so, we have to contact their headquaters, and since it was week-end headquaters was close. Also I expected 8 people who sign up for the event, , and only 6 peoples showed up, only 3 was from the signed up list. and I am wondering if there is something that I did wrong or if the event was not advertized enough. How do people actually get more people. The weather was not favorable so we could not really do much. but it was my first time I guess, I hope next time will be better. I am counting on any of your advises, strategies in how you made your event more successfull. I will be reading your post with interest.

Wow! - MY Road to Change...

My hope, prayers and belief in Barack Obama's ability to do a great job running this country caused me to sacrifice many volunteer hours over the last 13 months for his campaign and I was ultimately sent to the battleground state of Ohio where I worked as a Vote Corps Field Organizer. I spent the last 5 consecutive weeks of the presidential campaign in Ohio and helped to turn it into a “Blue State”, literally knocking on thousands of doors and making almost as many phone calls! Unfortunately, there's no way to show that on my Dashboard on this site, but oh well. :-) The experience in Cleveland, OH was probably the hardest, yet most rewarding experience of my lifetime to date, & I’ll probably never be the same!

I titled my bog post "Wow! - MY Road to Change" because of my experiences with this campaign. I am now very inspired to become even more involved in politics and help elect more people who will help to pass laws that are good for our district, our state and our country. I absolutely love what this campaign has done in terms of unity for our country and the world, thus far, and I want to become even more involved because I now realize that, truly, "WE ARE THE CHANGE THAT WE SEEK.” Accordingly, I have applied as a candidate for an Assembly Delegate in my district (AD15). Who knows where that road will lead . . . maybe eventually to me running for President one day! (smile)

With the Senators and Congressmen taking requests from friends and family, many of Obama volunteers and supporters may be left in the cold. So, why not take the lemons and make lemonade? One group here is suggesting to host our own parties. I agree and want to take it one step further (thanks Anthony). I hope the Obama team will use their clout to talk to stadium owners to let supporters watch the inauguration throughout the DC area and the country. That way, we can tailgate; have free concerts; and do not have to spend a lot of money for dress-up clothes.

I still have to fill out my practice ballot. I've got to make all these choices, judges and whatnot. Going to try to get out there to vote on Monday, before beer and cheese fries, after I see a movie!

I got a call from my sister the other day, a bit distraught, and she was asking me, "What else can I do? I'm losing sleep at night thinking that the Republicans could still win this!"

There are a number of things one can do to help out during these last four weeks of the campaign. Here is what I have been doing:

Donate anything you can to the Obama campaign. I have given the maximum amount to the campaign that an individual is allowed, but I started off with a small donation of $25. This makes a huge difference!
Set up a profile on http://my.barackobama.com/ and get connected with people in your area--especially if you live in a swing state! There are lots of events you can get involved with through this site right here, so take a look around.
Blog if you are so inclined. It has really helped me sort out my thoughts, and it also gives me a way of bookmarking links and encapsulating thoughts in a way that can be reused and shared again.

The only thing i don't believe in doing is traveling to other states to influence voters. I saw a documentary earlier this year about some people from New York who traveled down to Allentown, PA to talk to swing voters, and how that strategy backfired.

Nevertheless, I do believe in get-out-the-vote campaigns in places where citizens may be struggling to secure their own basic right to vote. If you can get involved in that in a state other than your own, I admire your willingness to help out your fellow Democrats!

Earth Charter Global Community Summit - Tampa, FL

On October 11, 2008, people will gather in cities worldwide to discuss global climate change and to work together to address its effects on the local level. Earth Charter U.S. is coordinating the summits in celebration of U.N. International Year of Planet Earth. They are also underwriting the web connection among participating cities so that people will feel the global connection by being able to see and hear each other.

Earth Charter U.S. is a nonprofit organization that spreads the message of the Earth Charter, an international declaration of principles for building a just, sustainable and peaceful global society ( www.earthcharter.org).

I was honored to be able to see this remarkable and down to earth women at the Meyers Recreation Center, 58th and Kingsesing Ave on Wednesday, September 24, 2008. They both look good and spoke with confidence, hope and integrity. They believe in the CHANGE and support it 100%. It was beautiful day and everyone was PROUD to take part in this historical event in Philadelphia! Supporters from all walks of life gathered from EVERY section of our City of Brotherly Love that desperately need a "CHANGE"....and we ALL KNOW.....that is a HOPE FOR FACT!!! The young volunteers gave their views on what CHANGE meant to them....RIGHT NOW!

Today I am excited to be preparing to host my first event for the Senator. This fundrasing dinner was designed as an opportunity for others like me to take a stand. When I look back after this campain is over, I dont want to have any regrets. I want to be able to say that I did my part. I dont have a lot, but I have enough.

I can make a make a difference and encourage my friends and neighbors to also make a difference. We need to ask every one we know: "Are you registered to vote?" Why not? How can I help? In addtion, we can vote with our wallets. This is a grassroots campaign, and they need us. This movement begins and ends with our committment to create change in Washington.

It seems so clear to me at times that the McCain-Palin tickent holds NOTHING at all for working people, and unemployed people are certainly NOT on their minds. So, how did they manage to high-jack the "CHANGE" movement that Senator Obama began over a year ago?!

I encourage you to make the next 8 weeks count. Create the time to attend an event. Mine on September 20th at 5pm or someone else's event. Better yet, get your own party started.

OFF TO "CAMP OBAMA" Today & Tomorrow

"Under the weather." and completely sleep deprived but excited. Ready to get empowered! I'm off to Camp Obama in South East San Diego. It's a driving hike from North Escondido but I don't want to miss such an opportunity to gain more skills to help the Obama and other local campaigns.

In '04 I attended DemocraticGAIN training http://www.democraticgain.org/ in Boston during the convention, then Camp Wellstone training http://www.wellstone.org/ in San Francisco. Lemme tell ya... the experiences were fantastic beyond words! When "camp" in S.F. wrapped, I left straight from my hotel for Ohio! Made my contact calls on the way from the car. Oh yes we can! : )

I can't say enough about these training's and what came out of them. Starting out, I didn't know what I was getting into and I'll admit that I was *really* nervous to sign up. But I decided to "Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway" ( great book! ), and "stretch" my comfort zone. I'm so glad I did!

Bar Crawl for Obama?

Is anyone else interested in helping me organize such a treat? If we can get some bars behind it, I think it could be a fun way to both raise money and awareness for the campaign. The best bet for fundraising, I think, would be to charge a set fee for participation-- a portion of that would go to memoribilia of some sort: a t-shirt, button, or sticker stating our purpose; and the rest could go to the campaign and bar owners, if necessary.

I've never organized a bar crawl, though, so if someone else has more experience, I'd gladly take guidance. What do the rest of you think?

Coalition of Suffolk Police Unions, State Troopers PBA endorse Ramos for Assembly

The Coalition of Suffolk Police Unions and the New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association announced their endorsement of Phil Ramos for State Assembly.

“We served 20 years with Phil, so it was easy to see that he’s the best candidate to hold this office,” said Jeff Frayler, president of the Suffolk PBA. “He knows firsthand what police officers need in order to keep our communities safe, and his record as Assemblyman clearly demonstrates his continued dedication to making our communities as safe as they can be.”

Ramos, who served on the Suffolk police force for more than 20 years, is running for re-election to the state Assembly. The Democratic primary will be held Tuesday, September 9.

Ramos has a solid record of helping to pass groundbreaking crime-prevention laws, including measures that crack down on sex predators and gun violence. Ramos helped pass the new civil commitment law to keep dangerous sexual predators out of our neighborhoods (Ch. 7 of 2007). He also supported the law that increases penalties for those who attempt to lure a child, on the Internet or on the playground, with the intention of doing them harm (Ch. 405 of 2008). In addition, Ramos helped pass the new law designed to better protect seniors from criminals and con artists (Ch. 68 of 2008).

Other anti-crime measures Ramos sponsors include the ban on “cop killer” ammunition, including armor-piercing and frangible bullets (A.3447); a ban on assault weapons; and legislation to toughen penalties for the sale of illegal guns.

Continuing his head-on approach to defusing gangs, Ramos advanced strong anti-gang legislation (A.4200) and spearheaded an agreement between Suffolk police and El Salvadorian police, fostering a strong working relationship to help eliminate gangs. Ramos has secured thousands of dollars for before- and after-school programs to help give children a safe, constructive alternative to crime and gangs, including $50,000 for a new teen center in Bay Shore.

“I’m humbled and honored to have the support of these local and statewide law enforcement unions,” Ramos said. “Building a strong, healthy community begins with making sure our families are safe, and I’ll continue to fight to ensure our community has programs in place that provide children and young adults an alternative to gangs.”

First "Run for Obama" A HUGE Success

Thanks to everyone who came to Argyle Park in Babylon NY this morning for the very first "Run for Obama" 5K walk/run! The event was attended by about 15 Obama/Biden supporters and raised over $180 in contributions! What a nice way to send Barack and Joe to Denver!

In fact, the event was such a success, that we're going to do it again!! Come Saturday, September 20, we'll do a repeat performance (hopefully everyone who attended last time will bring a few friends).

I hope that, if you live on Long Island, you can make it to Babylon on September 20 and join us for the second "Run for Obama." Come wearing your Obama gear to show everyone on the street just who it is we are running (or walking!) for!!

This will be a rare opportunity for grassroots groups from all over the country to unite in the nation's capital.

There will be fund raising and voter registration. This is a high visibility event in Freedom Plaza close to the White House. There will be extensive media coverage as we host Mayors, Climate Change, members of Congress, Sierra Club, Veterans. Bands, performers, grassroots special guests.

French TV has contacted me and they will be filming for a special program about the election and our grassroots movement.

Our stage is being built. I am hoping to find an Obama banner for the stage if you know of any group who has one and can loan it for the event. If you live in the region, come to Washington DC to Freedom Plaza to share our grassroots enthusiasm. If you live across the country, it's a great time to visit your nation's capital and be apart of history.

A word about the ticket. I am so proud to be supporting such talented and inspirational candidates as Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Together they complement the spirit of Hope, Change, and Determination that America represents to the world. I have been fortunate to work with so many people across this country organizing this event. Grassroots have always been the spirit and good intentions of America.

Teachers associations endorse Ramos for Assembly

The Brentwood, Bay Shore and Central Islip teachers associations announced their endorsement of Phil Ramos for state Assembly.

“I’ve seen firsthand the hard work Phil has done to help ensure our children get the quality education they need,” said Joe Hogan, president of the Brentwood Teachers Association. “He’s consistently delivered for our local schools, making sure we get our fair share of education aid from the state.”

Ramos said he has repeatedly proven his commitment to education by fighting to remove our schools from the budget chopping block, securing a nearly $13 million increase in aid for local schools this year alone.

“We’re supporting Phil because of his comprehensive approach to education and unwavering dedication to our children – he understands that a successful education extends beyond the classroom,” said Robert Molinaro, president of the Central Islip Teachers Association. “Phil’s annual Summer Reading Challenge has increased the students’ interest in reading during a time when students can lose ground — helping teachers extend the school year.”

Ramos’ Summer Reading Challenge awards certificates of excellence to students who participate and read with a parent for 15 minutes a day for at least 40 days during July and August.

“We’re not only teachers, we’re also parents and taxpayers,” said Darlene Darch, president of the Bay Shore Teachers Association. “Ramos’ dedication to our community and our children’s education is second to none, and for that reason we wholeheartedly endorse his candidacy.”

Ramos supports increased home heating aid for middle-class families

Assemblyman Phil Ramos joined Assembly Energy Chair Kevin Cahill, Assembly Majority colleagues, AARP and groups advocating for consumers, senior citizens and low-income New Yorkers for a “HEAP tour stop” at the Central Islip Civic Council to address the expected home heating fuel crisis facing New Yorkers this winter.

“The time to act is now” said Assemblyman Phil Ramos (D-Central Islip). “With George Bush and the Republicans in the pocket of Big Oil, we at the State level need to do what we can to head off high home heating costs before winter sets in. The Assembly’s plan expands HEAP to more middle income families and it will be paid for by the record profits being reaped by Big Oil.”

Ramos said the Assembly Majority recently developed a plan to enhance HEAP and help more struggling families. He also is calling for the creation of a $1,000 tax deduction for money spent on home heating during the winter months.

“We can’t force New Yorkers to choose between staying warm during the long winter months and feeding their families,” said Ramos.

In anticipation of a crisis, the Assembly developed and approved a responsible plan in June to help New Yorkers combat the rising costs of home heating by forcing Big Oil to return some of the profits earned because of record gas prices.

Assemblyman Phil Ramos officially opened his campaign headquarters before an overflowing crowd of more than 75 friends, family, residents and community leaders on Saturday. Islip Supervisor Phil Nolan, Suffolk County Democratic Chair Rich Schaffer and County Legislators Jon Cooper and Rick Montano were also on hand to show their support for Ramos’ reelection effort.

“Phil has been a leader in helping make our communities stronger” said Phil Nolan “Whether it’s delivering state grants for our public libraries, the YMCA and numerous other community organizations, or making sure the community’s voice is heard in Albany, Phil Ramos is someone Islip families can count on”

Ramos recently secured $69,000 for the Great South Bay YMCA, $50,000 for a new Teen Center in Bay Shore and $750,000 for a business support center in Central Islip.

“I love this community, and that’s why I’ve called it home for more than 50 years. I’ve been walking the streets of Brentwood, Central Islip and Bay Shore since I was a kid and nothing is more important to me than making our community the greatest place possible to live, work and raise a family,” said Assemblyman Phil Ramos. “As in previous years I will run a strong, positive campaign focused on the issues important to all working families – such as making Suffolk an affordable place to live, making sure our children get a quality education and that everyone has access to affordable health care.”

I can hardly believe the email I got today. Barack is the anti-christ !!! Needless to say I sent a full and detailed response to all the poor people on that email. Hopefully they were all smart enough to see through this kind of thing, but it is scary that there are people out there that really believe this stuff.

On a more positive note - June and I have tried to do our first event. We are trying to have a canvassing party on Sep 20. I'd love to be able to contact a lot of people in one weekend, but then wouldn't everyone. If it doesn't work I'll burn up somemore shoe leather on my own lol.

NEWS AND THE OBAMA ERA

As a person who has used too many video recorders since 1980 (VHS thank God), I have a major collection of more than 5,000 recordings of poltical programs, events and breaking news. Most of my recordings are from the Washington, D.C. region where I lived.

I have watched (and burned to DVD) with wonder the events of this campaign. I find that it's not until some time after I've made a recording, the news junkie that I am, that I understand the context the event had when it happened. It's puzzle piece in the larger historic picture.

Having ADD, I'm able to listen to a number of broadcasts at the same time and can instantly catch those little elements that seem to get overlooked byt the "professionals" and this is often frustrating.

I'd like to touch base with other newsies who watch and read the news as I do ... in a present day context and in the wider historic context.

The Barack Obama era is without question is heaven sent to us news junkies.

The Obama Campaign's Field Coordinator is here. Her name is Azure and she arrived in Socorro on Saturday. She's been working practically non-stop since then. She will be here working full-time from now until the general election. She will be attending the Farmer's Market Tabling event on August 5th to meet with volunteers and visitors. We will be phone banking to find volunteers for canvassing on August 10th. We'll also have a table, campaign literature, bumper stickers, lapel buttons, and stickers. There will be at least one registrar to register new voters. Come join us and bring your cell phone, we need your help!

Obama Registering People At Gas Stations in Ohio

Pretty genius effort. They did this around 8 cities in the state. In my local city of Toledo, the event was a huge hit according the local news station WTOL.

Think about it.....people are basically stationary for 5 minutes. If you hit low income areas of town, you capitalize on their anger at the pumps and you give them an avenue to voice their displeasure in November. Given that gas was $1.25 before oilmen Bush and Cheney took office, and now it is $4 a gallon, and John McCain is going to continue those same energy policies, pretty good chances they'll be voting Democratic.

Everyone must get gas. Probably the only place in America where people of all political leanings go.....and a great way to nail unregistered voters. Now, we could use this in a couple of ways.

1. FUNDRAISING - have a combo car wash and voter registration - donate money to Obama

2. OBAMA WORKS - a bigger statement to the community: *FREE* car wash in the name of Obama Works (see www.whyobamaworks.com), combined with voter registration & invites to meetings, the web site, solicit donations, etc. This would be great with T-shirts and local media notification. What a great statement for the community. We could make it a big event - important thing is to display our faith in Barack Obama and his vision for America.

WHAT WE HAVE COVERED SO FAR:

July 5th Parade in Laurel, MD

Kudos to Wendy for getting us into Laurel’s July 5th parade. She went old school with kids, friends, signs, and lollipops. Jemma led us in the call and response. Pat and Elliot glad-handed the adoring Obama crowd except for the thumbs down grandma. We were loud and proud that day.

Voter Registration

Everyone is encouraged to become a voter registration volunteer. As stated in the blog, you can stop by the election board to between 8:00-and 4:30pm. Better to go individually versus in a group. We decided to conduct the registration on August 23rd at Laurel Lakes Senior apartments (Crystal will work on getting the space. Logistics will be discussed during the conference call.)

Shelly mentioned holding an event near the Mall and for workers who commute to Arundel Mills. Marion mentioned pass out reminder flyers at Greenbelt Metro. Ann will do the flyers. Her computer has now been set free.

Hello Lee County for Obama. Hoepfully we met at the pre-4th of July meeting or at the RW&B festival on the 4th itself. If we haven't met already my name is Brian, and my fiance is Tiffany. We are a relatively young couple (25 and 24 respectively) that are diving head first into the 2008 campaign season, obviously in support of Barack Obama. Now that we have that out of the waaaaaaay....

I have a few things I'd like to discuss.

1) Weekly Meetings/Discussion Groups - We had the pre-4th meeting last Thursday and we had what I thought was a decent turnout. Although we were there primarily to discuss the festivities on the 4th, we also were able to get into a little discussion about CHANGE. CHANGE is obviously what we all want/seek and it is something that has become a little cliche with Mr. Obama's campaign. Putting that aside I think it wouldn't be a bad idea for us to meet weekly to not only discuss CHANGE in our nation, but CHANGE in our communities, CHANGE in our schools, CHANGE in our local government and CHANGE in our homes. I think we could rotate the location so that people in S. Fort Myers wouldn't have to travel to N. Cape Coral and vice versa. Also, we could have a different host each week and/or bring in a keynote speaker, anything to spark discussion/conversation on the campaign and local reform. Do you guys think this is a good idea? I honestly think we really need to be proactive and if we aren't meeting regularly it's going to be tough to make that happen. I'm anxious to hear your feedback.

2. $$$$ from Red, White & Boom - Tiffany and myself were actually able to collect about $18 dollars from 6 different people on the 4th. I'd like to know what you guys want me to do with the money. Is Wilson still the go to guy or are we going to have a board like system with a Treasurer, President, Secretary.. etc. Please let me know what way to go with that issue.

3. Future Events & Fundraising - I don't know what our group plans are for future events & fundraising. I think we should be doing at least 2 fundraising events a month to support the group and we should also find some creative things to do to support Barack's campaign. I mean we can go from as basic as sitting outside Publix to more complex things.. but the goal should remain the same - To support the campaign and register new voters as well as raising money for our group. I'd like to hear people's feedback on this as well.

Anything that Tiffany and I can do to help any of you individually please let us know. We are 110% behind the group and can't wait to meet each and every one of you. Please stay active on this board and active in the community. CHANGE starts from the ground up..

Obama may accept nomination at Invesco Field

Is there a facility in the United States large enough to accommodate the anticipated, record-breaking crowd that will gather to hear Barack Obama deliver his nomination speech in August? Invesco Field is a serious contender as a host facility. Invesco Field at Mile High, where the Denver Broncos play, seats more than 76,000. According to the Huffington Post, Obama is scheduled to accept the Democratic presidential nomination on the final night of the Democratic Convention, which also is the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech delivered on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington in 1963.

100K Movement

There has been some rumors that, instead of having BO's Convention Acceptance Speech in the standard covention hall with Delegates and High Value Donors (which would amount to a few thousand people), the campaign is thinking about having it at Mile High Stadium which will seat around 75K people in the seats and another 25K on the field...almost a hundred thousand supporters kicking off this movemonet for change.

In order to Win! (and we must), this has to turn into a major movement. The repulicans are openly conceding that if it becomes a movement, their entire strategy will have to be reworked. It is their biggest fear.

The republicans know that no one will care about policy flip flops, crazy reverends, or shady real estate dealings. No one will care about MO's patriotism, the Iraq pull out strategy, or your word on public campaign financing. No one will care about the cocain, fist bumps, or drilling. No will even care if you're a Muslim...Ok we won't go that far ;)

No one will care because its a Movement

We need to make this happen. BO, if the DNC can't afford it, we need to pay for it.

And I also hear Grateful Dead is thinking of getting together for an Obama Concert...thats also a great movement event...We'll save that for another post.

This event will prove to the nation that its a movement and its calling the masses to join. We are nowhere close to that right now although it may seem like that to a lot of you reading this. Our entire nation and generation needs to see this.

We are holding a National Day of Action for an Oil-Free President. With local outreach events at gas stations around the country, we'll make sure voters know the facts: John McCain's campaign is run by oil lobbyists, it's funded by oil companies, his policies are straight out of Big Oil's playbook, and he won't solve our energy crisis.

Obama Campaign in Montrose County

It has been several weeks now since the primaries concluded and the general election campaign began. As part of the coordinated effort to elect Barack Obama, i have officially joined the campaign and have been given the responsibility for organizing Montrose County. This is a particularly special honor for me because Montrose County is not merely a crucial challenge in the fight for Colorado's electoral votes, Montrose is also my home.

i am excited at the opportunity to engage supporters, doubters, and critics alike and to share with all of them the hope and enthusiasm i have for reclaiming our government and returning it to its proper role: an extension of the people's will and advocate for the welfare of the people it represents.

Electing any candidate is no small task, much less a candidate who intends to put values of community and social justice above greed and the established hierarchy of power. That's why the need for our active participation is so vital. i am trusting that with a sense of pride, with a sense of hope, with a desire to see the United States of America once more respected as a great nation not just in word, but in deed as well -- i trust that these motivations will inspire individuals to overcome their doubts and their cynicism, will illuminate this truth: we work hardest for the things which are most important to us.

i will be organizing a number of events this summer and into the fall, and i look forward to meeting every single person in Montrose County. Well... okay, maybe just as many as i can. November 4th is coming up quickly, so let's all get to work.

I attended Two wonderful Unite for Change Events

Ohh what a wonderful day today was. I attended two Unite for Change home events. The first was excellence in motion. People of all faces, races and levels were at these two events. Passionate speakers, good food!

At today's second event (First Americans United for Change) there was an original Tuskegee Airman at the event! The crowd was shown his Congressional Medal of Honor and a picture featuring his receiving his award. When the meeting disbanded, I hugged this wonderful Airman and I personally thanked him for such a distinguished military tour and for serving our country. AHHH!!

Prior to attending these two events, I had to go to the bank, and the bank teller told me her boyfriend wasn't registered to vote. I gave her a form for her boyfriend.

After leaving the second meeting, I went to an electronics store; and the gentleman who helped me was not registered to vote but will vote for Obama in November. I had my voter registration forms available. (I'm a volunteer for the campaign.)

People all over are amped up. The campaign torch has been lit like the Olympics Torch by our dear Senator and Mrs. Obama. People are excited, and the excitement doesn't wane. I'm so glad I attended the two events I said I would today.

The Socorro County Democratic Party will have a table outside Macey Center. From the Socorro County Dem. Party Chair: "Set up will be at 9:00am and we will be there until around 6:00pm. We will be registering voters, having a bake sale and novelty sales, and giving out free patriotic tattoos to children. We need volunteers to man the table for 3 hr. shifts and would like to have a registrar at each shift. If you have time, I would sure appreciate your help. We want to make sure that people know the Socorro Demo Party is alive and thriving. If you can provide baked goods wrapped individually for sale that would be appreciated as well." (Note: In order to become a registrar, you need to go to your county clerk's office, fill out a third party affiliate form and recieve a brief training. It should only take 20-30 minutes. I know this is a pretty Republican area, but I also know there are lots of Obama supporters out there. Maybe most went back up north after season ended??

Unity Events in SLO County?

So, I hopped on mybo this morning, hoping to find some events in our area, and I was surprised to see that the closest event is in Delano, CA. Thinking that couldn't possibly be right (SLO is a HUGE Obama town), I looked at the map showing all events within a 500 mile radius of SLO, and the image was a little sad. There are tons of events to the north, south and east of us, but not a single thing on the coast from Oxnard to Salinas. Can that possibly be right?

I'm going to informally poll my friends, figure out how to find track down Clinton supporters, and if all of that proves beneficial, look at planning a Unity Meeting for our area. It would be nice to connect with Clinton supporters and welcome them to the family, if they want in.

Any thoughts?
