Charity begins at home! Why not have a NATIONAL LOTTERY for INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT and JOB CREATION. It is already done by states, why not have a NATIONAL lottery. Some citizens will get a prize, but the 'POT' will be divided by the states SPECIFICALLY FOR INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT AND JOB CREATION. The money lottery structure is already in place, the money could be collected automatically and distributed quickly and, HOPEFULLY, infrastructure project could begin quickly. Maybe I am being naive, but this is just an idea, a seed idea!

Hello Everyone,

This is for real this is not a joke.

I received a decision letter from The Social Security Administration tonight that as of July 23, 2009 coincidently that was my birthday that I was no longer entitled to social security disability benefits.

Those of you that personally know me know what I have been going through since they stopped my benefits earlier and how my health got worse. You that know me, know how much my work means to me and how hard I work to provide the service that I perform for you guys even though I am Impaired with my disability, I am not able to obtain a normal job due to my disabilities.

Again those of you that personally know me,know that I am not able to obtain a regular salaried or hourly job due to my medical disablities and therefore I am asking for immediate and Extremely Urgent help tonight. You all know me to be an honest person.

Therefore I am in great need for immediate donations. Here is my problem again let me explain this email is really from me. Tom Rodgers, As I sit here at my office in Cusseta tonight am I wondering where do I go from here. I have worked so hard to continue to provide services to all of you at the lowest possible prices.. Donations needed to create a Safe Haven for Children in Deprived Rural Town

My name is Candice Cox; I am a 27 year old African American Therapist with a huge heart and small pocket book. J I moved to Newport, AR from St. Louis, MO in September of 2008 with my husband, and 3 year old daughter to provide my services to a community in need as I have 9 years experience working with children and families. Since being here I have realized that this community is depressed as a whole. The children are being jailed, expelled, and placed on house arrest for non violent crimes caused within the schools on a daily basis. Many children do not leave the area or graduate from high school due to being buried under generational barriers of their families. The only options for entertainment are the bowling alley that is only open a few hours a day and the skating rink open only on the weekend. There aren’t many services geared toward introducing and implementing life or parenting skills but they are needed as children are products of their environment. Since being here I have partnered with the Branch Community center, a 501 (c)3 non-profit, and we have been working toward obtaining money to rehab their 137,000 sq ft building to create a community center filled with services and resources. The building, located in "the hood" was quick deeded to the organization 5 years ago and has been operating on personal money and small donations. This building is not acceptable to put children or adults in as it has not been updated since it closed in 1970 due to integration, it served as the school for minority children in Newport. We have received shut off notices for several of our bills and are scrapping to provide basic supplies for the community members who do attend the facility. Please help. I have lost two jobs for unknown reasons due to people within the community feeling that I am trying to cause a problem. I am not violent, aggressive, or a threat, I just see a need and state the facts. Because of my passion and dedication to root for the underdog, I have been told that my upfront and honest personality is considered disrespectful in the south. I cannot turn a blind eye and remain silent when I know that there is blatant classicism and some racism that continues to drive decision in this town. My heart breaks to see the children here as they do not dream to be doctors, lawyers, artist, or even employees. They strive to be baby mommas, drug dealers, inmates, sexual partners, and thugs. I don't feel that it is fair for anyone to live under these conditions as everyone’s life is important and valuable. The parents feel helpless as they lack the basic parenting skills to raise their children, the basic life skills to reach beyond their walls, and the appropriate mental health care to handle the emotional instability within their lives. The people suffering here are of all races but sadly the minorities are suffering the worse as they feel they are only deserving of what they have. Please help me help them. I am at the point where I feel that I will have to leave to make sure my child receives the education, resources, and life that she deserves if things don't change here. A silver lining in the clouds occurred on May 13, 2009 when I was introduced to Rasheed Salaam, Be A Champion Foundation, and learned there are other individuals who share the belief that life is about people and not things. Recognizing the similarities in our ideals and values the Newport, AR Chapter of the Be A Champion Foundation was discussed and set into motion. It is our goal to wrap the community in services that are geared toward enhancing the community one family at a time through building people and not businesses. With the assistance of Be A Champion I feel a renewed spirit as I am sure that we are going to create opportunities and open the doors of our younger and older generations thru enhancement on the community, family, and individual levels. Sharing this vision and passion with my fellow members of the Branch Board they unanimously voted to form a partnership with both companies on May 14, 2009. It is my hope that our partnership and visions manifest quickly but having an understanding of systems allows me to think realistically about the generational barriers within our path that may slow us down. As I stated earlier I was terminated from my jobs as a therapist, for an unknown reason that was not related to my skills as a clinician, but I am continuing to write and implement programs, grants, and volunteer at the community center on a daily basis as well as work with the mentally ill for free on a daily basis at Clinical Neuropsych. I am not from this town, county, or state but I feel there is a reason to be here because I want the children and families within this community to experience the world beyond their walls. I cannot sit and wait for the world to change. After attending a Community Economic Development meeting in April my research was confirmed when statistics from the Governor were presented highlighting the fact that this community has maintained the same economic and educational deficits for over 50 years. In 2007, less than 50% of Newport 4th, 8th, and 11th graders were able to read or complete math on their appropriate grade level. In my mind, it is not ok for children to be educated solely by a school district that has created and maintained vast educational differences between the races for years and continue. It may not be the fault of the district as a whole but the numbers scream that a different approach is needed to approaching children and families as the current approaches and past have only maintained the illusion that one race is superior to another. This we all know has never been true.For this reason it is my hope that you will assist us in this process as we, Amaris Inspirations, Be A Champion, and the Branch Community Center work together to create and maintain a better opportunity for our youth and a brighter future for their families. We have agreed to work together to launch a national fundraiser and implement programs such as College for Kids, Various Solutions, and the Be A Champion Program. This community needs an outside hand as they are not aware of their needs because they have recreated the same environment over and over for years and have no idea of the world they deserve. This community is dying and there is a lot of talent here, not only in the children but in the community as a whole. No one deserves to wake up every day of their lives waiting to die. Where's my T-Shirt? Part Deux

So I've seen a few others asking the same question. I went to my.barackobama.com on Nov. 5, the day after the election, just on a whim...curious to see if they had already updated the site. Of course they had, and the new front page was asking for donations to the DNC. In appreciation, I would receive a special "2008 Victory T-shirt". I happily donated (of course, the t-shirt was more motivation). But I'm wondering if I will receive my shirt months later as others have remarked. I'm sure they've been inundated with donations for these shirts, but I would hope that they were ready for the surge of donations and were ready to send out shirts as soon as the donations were made. Are they waiting to send them en masse at a later date? It's been 20 days and I haven't received it yet, but I'll hold on to my "hope"....

Permanent Resident Donations

I think at the Obama website should've contained one page dedicated to explaning the Federal laws concerning the legaility of permanent resident's making donations to the Obama campaign.

The reason being that there is a lot of conflicting information out there, some articles don't even bother to point this out just making the blanket statement that "foreigners" aren't allowed to donate. I'm not entirely clear on this myself but from what I gather if you are a permanent resident you can donate to the Democrats, but not the Republicans (because they refuse it).

It would also help dispell rumors that Obama has gotten contribution from foreign nationals, I'm sure most non-citizen donations are from people who have been living here for a long time but just happened to be born in another country and haven't gotten around to getting their citizenship (which is harder than most Americans can imagine).

For the record I donated and I am a permanent resident who came to this country when I was six. I love this country and I know more about US history and US government than 99% of the saps who were lucky enough to be born in this country.

One last fun fact: Male permanent resident's are required to register in case of a draft, just like male citizens. It's funny how they don't want "foreigners" like me to vote but I still have to fight and possibly die for this country if the need should arise.

Obama Raises $150 Million in September

DUNN, North Carolina (CNN) -- Barack Obama's campaign announced Sunday the Democratic presidential candidate raised $150 million in donations in September, setting a new high-water mark in campaign fundraising.

Barack Obama calls a prospective voter from a headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri, on Saturday.

In a campaign video, Obama campaign manager David Plouffe said a record 632,000 new donors gave to the campaign, with the average contribution under $100. More than 3 million donors have given so far.

The Obama campaign raised $65 million in August.

Regardless of the stunning haul, Plouffe told supporters the campaign still needed more money because of "the slime that we're getting from the McCain campaign." Plouffe cited recent attack ads and automated phone calls in battleground states and said the campaign needed to have every resource to "fight back."

"Their campaign is going to descend even more into the gutter," he said.

Plouffe also said the campaign was expanding its reach to compete "aggressively" in West Virginia.

Credit Card Smears

Hi, everyone!

Just a short notice: I am a German citizen (as I have said quite often) and I have tried several times to donate to the Barack Obama campaign. It is not possible to do that with a German credit card! It just isn't possible.

So, everyone who states that there were donations from foreign credit cards - not true!

Much less would I believe that a card from an "Adolf Hitler" was accepted. This last claim is final proof to me that the accusations are completely baseless!

Fighting the robocalls!

I have been the unlucky recipient of three robocalls from the McCain campaign so far. Apparently, the McCain campaign has mistakenly put me on some list. Each time I receive a call now, I go to the John McCain website and leave a message explaining how repugnant I find these calls. I also inform them that for each call they make to me, I will make a donation to the Obama campaign. I just made another one. I invite others (who are able) to do the same. Or how about volunteering one extra shift per call?

The Obama - McCain Freddie Mac - Fannie Mea connection

If you want to know how Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have survived scandal and crisis, consider this: Over the past decade, they have spent nearly $200 million on lobbying and campaign contributions.

But the political tentacles of the mortgage giants extend far beyond their checkbooks.

The two government-chartered companies run a highly sophisticated lobbying operation, with deep-pocketed lobbyists in Washington and scores of local Fannie- and Freddie-sponsored homeowner groups ready to pressure lawmakers back home.

They’ve stacked their payrolls with top Washington power brokers of all political stripes, including Republican John McCain’s presidential campaign manager, Rick Davis; Democrat Barack Obama’s original vice presidential vetter, Jim Johnson; and scores of others now working for the two rivals for the White House.

Fannie and Freddie’s aggressive political maneuvering has helped stave off increased regulation and preserve special benefits such as exemption from state and local income taxes and the ability to borrow at low rates.

When their stock prices took a dive last week, their government allies extended another helping hand with a plan for the Treasury Department, the Federal Reserve and, possibly, Congress to shore up the companies.

The housing crisis is sure to linger into the next administration, when the mortgage companies will inevitably be well-represented �€" no matter who’s in the White House.

Fannie and Freddie’s political contacts exist deep in the two presidential campaigns.

At least 20 McCain fundraisers have lobbied on behalf of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, netting at least $12.3 million in fees over the past nine years.

Political insiders Arthur B. Culvahouse Jr., picked by McCain to vet his vice presidential nominees, and Jim Johnson, picked by Obama to perform the same function, once worked for the mortgage giants.

And for years, Rick Davis served as president of an advocacy group led by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that defended the two companies against increased regulation.

So far this election cycle, Freddie Mac’s political action committee and employees have contributed $555,567 to Senate and House candidates, and Fannie Mae’s PAC and employees have given more than $1.1 million, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

In total, the two companies have spent $170 million on lobbying over the past decade, according to the Center, although they have scaled back in recent years. Last year, they paid $14.1 million in lobbying fees, a significant decrease from a high of more than $26 million in 2004. The connections of both campaigns to the well-entrenched mortgage companies highlight the difficulties the candidates face in selling voters on an outsider message.

McCain’s campaign denied that its political connections have affected his view on the issue.

“I have written every word that has to do with Fannie and Freddie in this campaign, and I don’t know who the people are that are linked to the companies,” said McCain’s economic adviser, Douglas Holtz-Eakin.

“Sen. McCain has favored GSE reform in the past and continues to favor GSE reform,” Holtz-Eakin said. “That’s unchanged.”

McCain has called the government’s weekend intervention in the struggling companies “correct,” saying he hoped that the action would “preserve the ability of Americans to obtain loans in order to buy a home and be able to afford mortgage payments they’re having to make.”

A spokesman for the Obama campaign declined to comment, noting only that former Fannie Mae CEO Jim Johnson stepped down from his campaign post in June. His resignation came in the wake of charges that he collected more then $7 million in home loans at special, below-average rates.

On Sunday, Obama shied away from commenting on the specific proposals, but cautioned regulators to give top priority to the interests of homeowners.

“That should be our No. 1 priority, not just shareholders, investors or CEOs of companies,” he said.

Fannie and Freddie own or guarantee almost half of the country’s $12 trillion in mortgage debt. Over the past few months, their shares of the housing market have grown as private companies curtailed their mortgage lending in the wake of massive subprime-related losses.

Critics have long argued that both Fannie and Freddie operated with too small a capital cushion to adequately offset financial risk. But the mortgage giants have consistently beaten back congressional efforts to increase oversight, even after a major accounting scandal in 2003 resulted in a $400 million fine for Fannie.

Fannie’s government relations operations dramatically expanded in the mid-1990s, when then-CEO Johnson recruited Washington A-listers Robert Zoellick, who served in the Reagan and Bush administrations; Lawrence M. Small, former secretary of the Smithsonian Institution; and William M. Daley, commerce secretary in the Clinton administration.

Johnson spearheaded an aggressive campaign to create a local grass-roots network of company advocates. Under his leadership, Fannie opened more than 50 partnership offices in cities and rural communities. At the same time, the Fannie Mae Foundation, a private nonprofit financed by the mortgage giant, contributed generously to local charities, arts institutions and housing organizations, giving Fannie influence in lawmakers’ home districts.

Both Fannie and Freddie made large and visible commitments to low and moderate-income housing, quieting criticism from advocacy groups. With the companies in trouble, their political ties are under new scrutiny.

Johnson headed Fannie Mae from 1991 to 1998, leaving with a $21 million payout. Even after he left, Fannie continued to pay him an annual fee of at least $300,000 a year for consulting services and a $71,000 monthly pension, according to filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

From 2001 to 2005, Fannie also paid for Johnson’s support staff, communications services and provided him a car and driver.

McCain tapped Culvahouse, the former Reagan administration official, to head his search for a running mate.

Currently a partner at O’Melveny & Myers, Culvahouse lobbied on behalf of Fannie Mae in 1999, 2003 and 2004, according to Senate records.

The campaign connections to the two mortgage companies go far beyond vice presidential vetters.

McCain campaign manager Davis headed the Homeownership Alliance, a lobbying association that included Fannie, Freddie, nonprofit groups, real estate agents, homebuilders and consumer advocates. The group’s stated goal was to increase affordable housing. But it also worked to oppose congressional efforts to tighten controls on Fannie and Freddie.

In July 2003, Davis wrote to the American Banker, taking issue with an opinion piece by Leslie Paige of Citizens Against Government Waste, arguing that Fannie and Freddie should operate with greater transparency.

“Several of Ms. Paige’s assertions bear correction,” Davis wrote, defending Fannie and Freddie on behalf of the group. “The GSEs are subject to an innovative and stringent risk-based capital stress test �€" the toughest in the financial services industry.”

Other McCain aides with ties to the two companies include economic adviser Aquiles Suarez, who worked as Fannie’s director of government and industry relations; congressional liaison John Green, who lobbied for Fannie from 2004 to 2007; and finance co-chairman Frederic V. Malek, a former Freddie board member.

Jamie S. Gorelick, deputy attorney general in the Clinton administration and a chief policy adviser to Hillary Rodham Clinton, is rumored to be a possible attorney general in an Obama administration. She was vice chairman of Fannie Mae an

I'm sick to death of the "divide-and-conquer" tenor that has characterized significant numbers of local, state and national Republican campaigns since the days of Nixon (i.e, anyone who doesn't believe, serve, worship, etc. as we do is an un-American traitor). Based on the maverick image of his past, I was hoping for better from my state's senior senator this year. I thought that John McCain was right in 2000 when he said that the religious right are "agents of intollerance," and again in 2004 when he said that the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth were "dishonest and dishonorable." However, as it stands today, and especially with the addition of Gov. Palin to the ticket with her cultural warrior demeanor, I feel that the Straight Talk Express has veered off onto the low road, and am saddened to see Sen. McCain stoop to this level.

I was one of the 84,000 people whose job was eliminated in August, so I'm naturally being very cautious about how I spend the money from my savings. However, given that Sen. McCain has apparently sacrificed his moral bearings and is clearly running his campaign from the Rovian dirty-trickster playbook, I decided in late August that I could donate the price of a tank of gas to the Obama-Biden campaign to express my support. I'm proud that the $66 million figure includes my relatively modest donation.

Hi all,

I finished my personal fundraising page today! It was very easy and I would encourage everyone to make up their own and invite friends and family to donate. Even a small donation helps. Just click on "Fundraising" on the right of your Obama web page and follow the directions.

I have also created a nice "Obama-Biden" business card template in MS Word. It has the Obama logo in the background. It simply says "Lets change things for the better! Here's your chance". Then you can insert your donation web page address and other contact info, if you wish. (Be careful not to give your home address or phone number. Do not give out your e-mail address if you think you may receive unwanted e-mails.) You will have to buy sheets of perforated business cards in order to really make this work. If you are good at cutting paper, a good heavy paper would work also.

I have yet to figure out how to safely make this "business card" template available to all of you. If anyone has any ideas, let me know!

SERVICE?! Are They SERIOUS?!

Has anyone else noticed that the RNC speeches are asking for donations by giving out a number that DOES NOT MATCH THE NUMBER ON THE SCREEN?!

It's true, we are watching the Republican National Convention... Dingaroo Press writers are watching the entirety of BOTH conventions, to ensure that our coverage is fair... as fair as possible, considering our passion and dedication to REAL service to local communities. Just like many who spoke in Denver, at the most inpiring example of politics I have witnessed in my lifetime. (a topic for another time...)

Back to my question:

How can it be that day after day, one after another, the RNC speakers stand up and talk about the importance of "SERVICE to others" in vague ways, yet mock the years of low-paying, unappreciated, and glory-less public service by Barack? Not to mention stealing from the opposition both the theme of service and Barack's mantra that "this isn't about me, it's about you."

How can it be, that day after day, one after another, the RNC speakers make a plea for us all to donate to the numbers on the screen, yet every single time the speakers repeat a different number... one 2 on the screen, but two 2s in the speeches.

How can it be that day after day this (perhaps small) mistake is not caught? We might come to the conclusion that accuracy is not a top priority for this campaign. We might even generalize that inaccuracy is commonplace in today's entrenched Republican guard. As time goes on, and we learn more about the realities of Iraq, we watch the growing pile of evidence for such conclusions.

But the simple answer to the donation plea problem? Easy! IT MUST BE THAT NONE OF THEM HAVE ACTUALLY TRIED TO DONATE!

Please, everyone... break the code of silence around speaking politics with friends and family. We must ensure that our country has the opportunity to meet history's call, and ELECT OBAMA/BIDEN THE BEST MEN TO LEAD US INTO OUR CUTTING-EDGE PROSPEROUS DESTINY!

Sorry, David - I love Barack like blood kin at this point (and after last night's speechifyin' I'm growing quite fond of Joe Biden too) but I am a disabled husband and father of one, so I have reached my personal donation limit for this election. My health insurance costs $1,650 a month for three people. I just got my electric bill - $575.00 - and I live in a State with no formalized heating and energy assistance - so even though we are a family of three with only one income - a disability pension (my wife is disabled but has yet to qualify for Social Security - neither have I - but that's another issue) - we qualify for virtually no help of any kind because we're too rich to be poor and far too poor to be rich. That's why I'm voting for Barack Obama - I am hoping that he can work to make things better for me and people like me.

Nobody gives a damn about disabled people. I can tell you stories - flying up to New York to visit my family, and EVERY TIME I find that the airline has given my bulkhead seat to a business-class, "premium" flyer - even though I cannot take a flight unless it is in a bulkhead due to my disability. Disabled folks are treated like CRAP in so many subtle, hidden ways - it is, in fact, a lot like institutionalized racism. It's all done with a wink and a nudge, and a laugh after I turn my back and limp off to calm myself. That's another reason I'm voting for Barack - I think that as a Black man of racially-mixed parentage, with a Muslim name, in one of the most racist places in the world, he can identify with some of what I go through - I know for SURE I can identify with HIS struggles.
I pray every night that we (Barack, and I) prevail in November, and beyond. America needs his wisdom and fresh approach to our problems. But as far as monetary assistance goes, I am tapped out - I've gotta figure out how to pay that $575.00 electric bill I just opened in today's mail.
However, if you send campaign workers to Georgia and they need crash space, you can count on a warm bed and a hot meal for anyone who needs one. We have a guest room and another person at dinner is a nice addition. Just call and we'll arrange hospitality as needed - (770) 704-9853.

68-Year Old White Guy All Choked Up!

As I started watching the roll call last ngiht, I couldn't first figure out at first why I seemed so teary. Then I recalled watching on TV the roll calls for Adalai, JFK, and even Ike. And as I started to listen and watch as not only northern states, but southern states as well vote their delegates for a woman and an African-American, I became so choked up that I couldn't respond right away when my wife came in and asked me if the roll call had started yet.

I recalled the civil rights struggles of the '60's, MLK's "I have a Dream" speech, my brother risking his life working for vote registration drives in Alabama and Mississipi. What a night! One that will be remembered for generations to come. What a great way to celebrate our 47th wedding anniversary!

I have just renewed my support with another $100 donation. Now is the time we all need to put our differences aside and renew our committment to electing Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Our nation, its future, and the future of our children and grandchildren depend on our committment, right now.

Watching the DNC made me wish that I was able to make it to Denver. I am so proud and hopeful of the sort of people that are working with this campaign. I have to say that Joe Biden is an amazing man and I have so much respect for Barack Obama for choosing such an ethical, stand up, salt of the earth type of man and I have no doubt he will be a great vice president. Beau Biden's speech made me cry which I have a lot in the last three days. John Kerry was great too I wish they had featured him more. And big props to Barack for calling invesco field, mile high stadium. End corporate Terrorism!

I was unable to make it to Denver because I have had to borrow from my 401k to pay my bills this month. I was already -500 in my bank account. I am on the verge of getting my water shut off my fiance is going to have to go get a payday loan so he can get his son a birthday present. I feel horrible about it but I am on disability for a work accident that my corporate job denied me workers comp for. I have had to file suit in court to try to recover from the devistation this caused financially. I am now also having to file for social security disability. State won't give me medicad or any assistance until Verizon verifies that I am on disability so I am the closest I have ever been to being homeless. At 28, growing up with parents who were very successful in acheiving the "American Dream" I sit, and I feel sorry for myself sometimes about this precarious situation I am in. But I think about my parents being first generation college graduates getting scholorships via athletics lifting themselves out of dire poverty in Texas and moving on to graduate school where they became VERY successful and powerful people in new mexico: one a lawyer and the other became well now she is the Deputy Secretary of Prison reform and reentry. I envy their success. I guess I have to learn things the hard way. Motherhood at 17 to a little boy who is now in 4th grade with a 7th grade reading level and in a gifted program. Of all that I sacrifice- I will sacrifice all I have for him. I will figure out a way to pay for the water, and my books for school next week--Sadly it is asking my parents for help which at 28 I didn't want to ever do.

Anyway, I donated to Barack despite financial issues with my 401k money because that's my future and I believe that this election is where my future lies. Honestly if he doesn't win, it is so bad here that once my degree is finished I am going to try to get sponsored for citizenship to the EU, France specifically because of my medical issues and I used to be fluent in french. This election is just that important to me. These promises are just that important to me.

In 1992 Bill Clinton had a rally in albuquerque at 3 am-the morning of the election. I was in 7th grade at Sandia Prep School at the time. My mom woke me up and took me in the cold cold of November early morning waiting for him. When he arrived he electrified the sleep deprived followers of the Clintons. Afterwards my mom and I went to the closest indoor place to find coffee and she and I talked about politics for about 2 hours. That night made me more aware and I can really think back to that time as to when I got into loving politics more than any poli sci class that I have taken. We even named our two cocker spaniels puppies Tipper and Hillary! Bill Clinton has been somebody I have admired my whole adult life and although I have supported and voted for Barack because of the inspiration I got from reading the Audacity of Hope. I am really pleased to see that there was so much of the convention tuned to Hillary. She had 18 million votes! She deserves the accolades that she has received. Bill Clinton, getting the 3.5 minute standing ovation pleased me as well. He said some things he shouldn't during the campaign but he was a husband speaking for his wife who was fighting a hard fight. I would have been disappointed if he hadn't reacted emotionally.

I am very excited to listen to Al Gore and hear Barack's speech. I have met Al Gore at a fundraiser shortly after he won (but lost) the election with Bill Richardson. He is such a funny guy.

Well I'm hopping around subjects. Today was a great day though. I am going to give as much as I can to make sure that Obama is elected.

Seriously though? Why would anybody vote for Mccain? c'mon he's 72 years old and he has a growth growing out of his face. You know he's not the same senator he used to be. I mean granted he's a tough guy but I think if you have to be at least 35 to be president there should be a cap on that as well. What if dementia sets in or alzheimers? Who his VP nod goes to is probably the most important thing in his whole campaign. But I wont be watching the republican convention-- it almost seems like a new standard has been set in women in politics this year and the sexism and mysoginy that oozes from certain Republican's angry and sick. Speaking of sick I have been watching MSNBC and I cannot STAND Pat Buchanan and the way he pronounces the word "woman" it really is very offensive in my opinion.

Combined with the unspecific campaign rhetoric, Senator Obama's earlier John Kennedy-like inspiration has evolved into very nearly politics as usual.

Wouldn't it be nice to get a message from the campaign that had nothing but substance in it - and no request for money?

My $10,000 Reason

I am a senior at West Albany High School in Albany, Oregon. I am excited to finish my last year of high school and move on into the big world. One big part of my life right out of high school like many others striving for the "American Dream", is college.

I was blessed enough to have grandparents who graciously started a college trust fund for me years ago. I have always made sure to thank them for this more than amazing gift they have given to me. Over the years my college fund has grown by thousands of dollars each year; late last year the fund was just over $90,000.

Here is where the story twists; due to President Bush's policies my college fund has lost over $10,000, just this year! There are now over 10,000 more reasons for me to support Barack Obama, and 10,000 reasons to do everything in my power to make sure John McCain does not win in November.

I know that I cannot afford another four devastating years of the same economic policies as Bush. I am confident there are millions of other American's that cannot afford it either. Stop Bush-McCain policies so that once again we may prosper.

To McCain: My $10,000 is not part of some "mental recession", this is proof of you and Bush's failed economic policies. I think I speak for the American people when we say, we are in a recession, and us, the American people will do everything we can to make sure Barack Obama is the next President of the United States of America!

I will donate today, and as I do, I will remember all of my fellow American's suffering from Bush and McCain's terrible policies. Donate today for our future! YES WE CAN!

Netroots Under the Bus -- No more donations

Sorry. You had my support. You had my family's support. Obama was perfectly willing to commit to filibuster against retroactive immunity for the telcos' and Bush administration's illegal spying when he needed netroots' support.

If you don't think you need us now that you have the nomination, fine. But the 4th amendment is a core issue. The Bush crimes and abuse of power are core issues. That you call your position a "compromise" on FISA is so disingenuous and cynical, I can not in good conscience support you with another penny.

I expect leadership from my leaders, not capitulation to a Republican party imploding from failed policy and assault on our constitution and liberties.

That you were always a politician's politician never had me fooled. But that you had energized a whole new block of young voters with your message of change and hope was truly exciting. What a precious resource you have squandered. My heart is broken for the younger generation that believed in you.

What's $2300 Buy These Days? Not Much Unity.

The Obama campaign has launched an all-out effort to help Hillary Clinton retire her debt. Obama’s national finance team members (bundlers) are being asked to go back to the well and get their donor friends to kick in up to $2300 (maximum allowed by law) to Hillary Clinton’s primary campaign. Donations will be designated for Hillary Clinton’s “2008 Primary Election Debt Retirement”. Donors are being assured that the money will not be used to pay back Hillary and Bill Clinton’s personal loan to her campaign, which they reportedly are recognizing as a loss. The campaign’s message is that this financial help is critical to ensure party unity and secure the support of Clinton’s backers – both donors and voters – for Obama in the general election. I’m not convinced.

The major sticking point with most Obama donors revolves around the nature of and reason for the debt, which are obvious to backers of both candidates. No one can blame Obama supporters for not wanting to pay off Hillary’s debts to Mark Penn and his firm, estimated to be anywhere from $2.5 to $10 million dollars. There is also the widespread belief that Clinton’s debt is due in large part to her drive to win a few more states and rack up more delegates even after her decisive loss in North Carolina and bare victory in Indiana made it mathematically impossible for her accumulate enough delegates to win the nomination.

Most small Obama donors also reason that Clinton should get those “die-hard” supporters of hers, those 18 million ceiling-crackers she keeps talking about, to kick in just a couple of bucks each and she’d be home free. Even without Limbaugh’s crossover chaos Republicans in Ohio, Texas and Indiana, who never intended to vote for Hillary in the general. Even discounting the poor white Democrats the Clintons mobilized so effectively in places like western Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Kentucky, who just can’t spare the change right now. Hillary should still be left with over 12-15 million voters who are not maxed out. But getting voters to back their electoral choices with cash -- even if it is only one or two bucks -- is as hard as getting them to agree voluntarily to pay more taxes to retire the federal debt. It ain’t gonna happen.

And how much unity do Obama supporters who dish out up to $2300 get for their money? So far, it looks like the answer is “not much.” In fact, some Hillary supporters like the Denver Group and P.U.M.A. who should be out there asking her voters to kick in are instead investing in confrontation with DNC Chairman Howard Dean and a strategy to revisit Chicago ’68 if she does not get the nomination after all.

An unintended consequence of these die-hards' efforts is that they are undermining efforts by serious Clinton supporters like that other former Vermont Governor Madeleine Kunin to memorialize through a roll call vote Hillary’s historic achievement as America’s first major female candidate for President while confirming Obama as the party’s legitimate nominee. Until Hillary herself publicly rejects these distractions from unity and indicates she will personally call for the unanimous convention endorsement of Barack Obama’s nomination you maybe want to keep those 2300 dollars in an FDIC insured account.

What happened to my Obama-campaign donation?

So, will Barack Obama continue to be able to collect megacash from small donors? It's a question to which I would like to know an answer.

I can say this: If I had learned that Barack Obama had taken charge of the situation, and made Steny Hoyer stop what he was doing, not only would I have been impressed by Barack Obama's ability to take the lead (which now is not so impressive), but also I'd have made a rather generous small donation. As things stand, I have given a couple of times to the Dodd presidential campaign, and I have given to the Clinton campaign to help pay off its debt, to reward Clinton for doing the right thing when she dropped out and sided with Obama, but I have given nothing directly to the Obama campaign. In fact, by far the biggest contributions and pledges I have made, starting a while ago and continuing today, have been to the funds that will be used, for example, to see that Steny Hoyer is primaried out of the House in 2010.

I just don't know what else to do. If Obama does a remarkable shaping up, that's worth rewarding; or if Obama continues to make himself unpopular with people like me, and somehow ends up looking as if he might actually lose to John McCain (or a replacement candidate should McCain start forgetting his own name or losing the way to any of his mansions), then what else am I supposed to do but try to help Obama, even though he would be turning out to be an incredible loser? But let it not go that route.

I want Barack Obama to know that by capitulating to Bushist demands he does not take "national security" off the table, but rather that this behavior is precisely why so many voters correctly perceive Democrats as "weak on Republicans" and thus infer that Democrats would likely be "weak on terrorism". People are not just being duped by Republicans, but are making reasonable inferences from the fear and submissiveness being displayed by Democrats such as Barack Obama. And I'm not going to reward that loser behavior with my donations. Behave like a winner and I'll donate.

I came across this article and after reading I saw red and my eye started to twitch. I'm all for party unity and all that good stuff. I might even toss Hillary $5 bucks...actually you know what, for now scratch that idea. I'll hold out and see how she and her followers behave at the convention and after, so far I'm not impressed. She pandered to Obama supporters by saying that she will throw all her time and energy behind Obama should he be the Nominee. Instead she has gotten lawyer to work out the "Unity" details, still hasn't fully conceded, is still holding all of her delegates tight and won't call off the PUMA henchmen, all while Obama and his campiagn staff have bent over backwards and extended the oilve branch to the point of hiring some of her "top" aides....Uggh!

Okay, let me take a moment to breath, count to ten and think of my happy place because I'm getting worked up again, and I'm trying to think about party unity. But HRC and her ex campaign staff are making it extremly hard and appear to be difficult to work with entitled, selfish and toxic. I'm starting to think she might be better served getting her PUMA folks and the like to raise that money. Right now I have a bad taste in my mouth awarding people with millions for thier own bad behavior and financial mismanagment...no matter how small the donation. I really think that her "top fundraisers and donators" need to get up off thier duff fundraise for Hillary and stop using Obama and his supporters as a crutch. Especially now when the focus should be raising funds to help Obama defeat McCain. Are they really asking for the focus to be taking off of that to now foucs o n Hillary's self imposed debt? July 9, 2008Obama Donors Aren’t Rushing to Aid Clinton By PATRICK HEALY

A prominent donor to Senator Barack Obama recently sent an e-mail plea to other supporters, asking them — for the sake of Democratic unity — to write checks to Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton to help retire her $23 million in campaign debt.

Some of the replies are unprintable, given the coarse language, the donor said. A sampling of others included:

“Why would I help pay off debts that Hillary amassed simply to keep damaging Senator Obama?”

“Gas prices are up, the markets are in turmoil, my kid’s fall tuition bill is coming soon. Writing checks to politicians I don’t like is not at the top of my list.”

“Not a penny for that woman. Or her husband. Or — god forbid — Mark Penn,” a reference to Mrs. Clinton’s former senior strategist, whose firm is still owed several million dollars for work that included aggressive attacks on Mr. Obama.

As Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton prepare for their first joint fund-raisers to benefit the Obama campaign, in New York City on Wednesday and Thursday, their two camps are straining under the weight of continued resentments, recriminations and feelings that remain raw since the long primary battle.

Mr. Obama has asked his top donors to help raise money for her debt, and so far they have come up with less than $100,000 (though more in pledges), Clinton campaign officials said — a “paltry sum,” in the words of one.

Several Obama donors said in interviews that they were balking at Mr. Obama’s call for help because they believed Mrs. Clinton accumulated most of her debts after she had lost any mathematical chance of winning the nomination and was hanging on only in hopes of an Obama collapse. The idea of helping her now — and lining the pockets of Mr. Penn, a reviled figure in the Obama camp — is galling to them, they said, especially at a time when they say any available money should go to defeating Senator John McCain and the Republicans in November.

While no other presidential candidate has ever amassed so much personal and campaign debt en route to losing the nomination as has Mrs. Clinton, both Clinton and Obama donors say the larger problem for Democrats is that if the Obama camp is seen as unhelpful, Mrs. Clinton, her husband and their supporters could prove something less than a force for unity.

Among the complaints from Obama campaign officials is that Mrs. Clinton’s expectation for help has been a moving target; in other words, it is unclear how much money from Obama supporters will be enough to satisfy the Clintons. Even Clinton officials and donors were at a loss to specify a number, saying only that Mrs. Clinton was helping Mr. Obama with the understanding that he would do more for her.

“There is no lack of emotion among some supporters of both candidates, but what I think the sensible elements of good will are trying to achieve is debt relief for Hillary consistent with getting Barack elected president,” said Steven Rattner, a New York investment banker and leading fund-raiser for Mrs. Clinton, who is working with both camps to help Mrs. Clinton retire her debt.

The bitterness in the Clinton camp about the primary battle is well known, but several Clinton donors and campaign officials said a deeper issue remained unsettled: The belief — or, perhaps, the perception — that Mr. Obama and his aides are half-hearted in their efforts to help Mrs. Clinton and include her top donors on his leadership team.

Some of them griped that major Clinton donors were not being invited to crucial fund-raising meetings; were not being made to feel that they would receive credit for helping Mr. Obama win in November; and were not being given titles within the Obama campaign. An Obama aide said it was still early in the integration process of the two campaigns; he also added that the Obama operation was not as title-driven as the Clinton operation, which had various donors serving as “chairs,” “co-chairs” and “Hillraisers.”

Clinton donors and campaign officials say they remain surprised — and, among some, offended — that Mr. Obama has refused to ask his entire list of donors, more than 1.5 million people, to send $5, $10 or more to chip away at Mrs. Clinton’s debt. (Obama officials said they did not want to distract their donors for the main task at hand, raising money to defeat Mr. McCain.)

“The Obama effort hasn’t yielded much, but we hope it will increase,” said Alan Patricof, a top Clinton fund-raiser and family friend.

“I think most people — I can’t say everyone — thinks that helping Barack is the best way to get help from the Obama camp to help retire her debt, which is a major source of concern for her right now,” Mr. Patricof added.

Mrs. Clinton owes an estimated $12 million to consultants and vendors, like Mr. Penn; she also lent her campaign more than $11 million. That $11 million is listed as a debt, though Mrs. Clinton has told her fund-raisers that she does not expect them or the Obama camp to repay her.

Clinton campaign officials estimated that the millions owed to Mr. Penn and his team was by far the largest part of Mrs. Clinton’s debt, though they emphasized that the money was not only going for Mr. Penn’s time but also for the services provided by his colleagues and his polling and strategy firm. Clinton officials said they could not provide a breakdown of those amounts.

“We’re focused on the vendor debts, especially the Kinkos, the truck drivers and the small-business folks who helped us along the way,” said Jonathan Mantz, the Clinton campaign’s finance director.

Orin Kramer, a leading Obama fund-raiser, said he was working with other members of Mr. Obama’s national finance team, like Frank Brosens and Alan Solomont, as well as Mr. Rattner, Mr. Patricof and other Clinton donors to deal with the debt issue.

The negotiations between the Clinton and Obama camps are so delicate that it is one of the issues being managed by Robert Barnett, the high-powered Washington lawyer that Mrs. Clinton asked to help structure a political relationship between them for the general election.

According to several Democrats who have spoken to Mr. Barnett, he has counseled the Clinton camp that honey will work better than vinegar in the debt talks. But Clinton donors say it is an open question whether the Clintons believe they should play hardball — signaling that they will not rally enthusiastically behind Mr. Obama unless he does more on the debt situation — or appear agreeable with the expectation that the money will ultimately come through.

A crucial test will come at the fund-raisers in New York this week, both sides said. Mr. Obama is expected to ask supporters there to help Mrs. Clinton, and Clinton donors said they were hoping for a great deal more money to come in from people heeding his call.

The New York events are on behalf of the Obama campaign, his aides said; Mrs. Clinton will not receive a cut of the take, but rather, in theory, benefit afterward from Obama donors who decide to help her. Mr. Obama and his wife have each already written checks for $2,300, the maximum donation, to Mrs. Clinton.

“Senator Obama and his staff and his supporters are working very hard on debt relief for Senator Clinton, and will continue to in any way that works best,” said Bill Burton, a spokesman for the Obama campaign.

Progressives Must Guard Against Helping to Promote Republican Narrative That Alleges Obama "Flip Flops"

The Republican spin machine is locked and loaded to promote the notion that Barack Obama is a "flip flopper." Four years ago it was their principal line of attack against Kerry and it worked like a charm.

In 2004, the goal of this narrative was to convince swing voters that Kerry had no core values -- that his positions and commitments were blown by the winds of public opinion just as he was blown right and left in the notorious campaign ad of Kerry wind-surfing.

Not long after the 2004 election, I was in a New Jersey taxicab. The driver was a typical male New Jersey cabbie. "So what do you think of Corzine?" I asked. "Oh, Corzine, tough guy. Like him," he replied about the then-Senator.

"What do you think of Bush?" I asked. "Like him too. Tough guy. Stands up for what he believes," came the answer.

"What about Kerry?" I asked. "Kerry? Can't stand him. Flip-flopper."

People want leaders who are firmly committed to their values. The key thing that affected the New Jersey cabbie's view wasn't the positions or views of the candidates. It was whether they stood up for what they believed. There are many independent voters just like him.

I believe that John Kerry has very clear values, but he left himself open to be defined to swing voters as if he didn't.

Barack Obama is firmly committed to progressive values that contrast sharply with the values implicit in necon foreign policy and dog-eat-dog, survival-of-the-fittest Bush-McCain economic policies.

Obama is much less likely than Kerry was to allow himself to be characterized as a flip-flopper without core values, because his entire campaign is rooted in the discussion of values. It has drawn very sharp distinctions with Republicans on the critical symbolic questions of Iraq, the economy and health care. But that won't keep Republicans from doing everything they can to try to make Obama look like he is a "typical politician" without a moral core the same way they did with Kerry.

Last week's near-frenzy in the media over Obama's alleged "move to the center" on Iraq had no substance whatsoever. It was fed, virtually entirely, by the Republican National Committee and the McCain campaign that simply asserted that his statements on Iraq represented a "change " from earlier positions. That narrative was picked up and parroted by various media pundits as if it were true.

Unfortunately, some Progressives fell prey to the media wave and actually gave credence to this non-story, when the fact is that Obama has consistently supported ending the war in Iraq and withdrawing all combat troops within 16 months, at a pace that is responsive to the situation on the ground.

Progressives have to remember that the Republicans don't care about the nuances of these issues. Their goal is simple: make Obama look like he is changing his position.

All Progressives don't agree with every position Barack Obama has taken, but the fact is that very few of his positions have changed since the campaign began.

Progressives who disagree with Barack Obama but at the same time don't want to help Republicans usher in a third Bush term need to remember three things:

1). Go right ahead and disagree with an Obama position or statement -- but disagree on the substance. Don't impute some venal motive. Remember that even when you disagree with him on an issue or policy, Obama shares our progressive values.

2). Don't reinforce the Republican narrative that Obama is a "flip flopper." Disagreeing with an Obama position is very different from arguing that he agreed with you once, but now has changed positions just to win favor with the voters. First, that is generally wrong. Second, if Obama emphasizes one aspect of a position instead of another in order to attract a particular group of voters, that does not mean he "changed" his position. Third, remember that the Republicans are desperate to get Progressives to confirm their narrative and convince guys like my New Jersey taxi driver to elect John McCain.

3). Remember that there is a huge gulf between the values of Obama and McCain. Obama stands clearly in the progressive tradition of giving every human being equal opportunity to fulfill their potential. McCain stands squarely on the side of ultra-conservative values that protect the power and prerogatives of the wealthiest among us.

Obama stands firmly against the neocon foreign policies of preemptive war and unilateral action that lay at the root of the worst American foreign policy disaster in a generation. McCain stands just as firmly for the neocon vision and the Bush approach to the rest of the world.

Obama believes that economic growth happens from the bottom up and doesn't trickle down on the rest of us. He supports the rights of workers to organize to defend their standard of living, and a world where we're all in this together, not all in this alone. McCain intends to continue Bush's economic policies that have assured that all of the economic growth in the last seven years has gone to the wealthiest 1% of Americans.

Obama understands that our world faces the greatest environmental crisis in history as we seek to prevent human beings from altering our climate. First and foremost, John McCain's loyalties lie with the oil industry.

We need to remember that John McCain's campaign is managed by lobbyists from the biggest special interests in America, while Barack Obama understands the need to mobilize tens of millions of Americans to change Washington from the ground up.

Progressives should go right ahead and question Obama's positions on issues -- and they should continue to hold him accountable when he is elected president. But remember that the Republicans are desperate to convince independent voters that Obama is "just another politician" whose values flow from the latest poll instead of his own commitment to principle. Don't help them. If you do you will be wrong, and you will also help the Republicans fulfill their unthinkable fantasy of a third Bush term.

* My Words*

I've come to the conclusion that we have this "problem" because we think of Obama as a two dimensional politician when he is actually three dimensional, if not more. A very easy thing to do when in the past all we had were two dimensional politicians. It's time for us to keep up with the times, the changes we are going to see and stop allowing ourselves and other to over simplify our Next President, Mr Obama. As he has said all along that he wants us to change how we think of politics in general. It isn't about Repulican, democrate, black or white, far right or far left. It's about us...all of us and thinking outside of our normal two dimensional political box. We have to stay on message and know it like the back of our hand. In the coming months the Repuglicans will spoend millions of dollars to make Obama out to be ssomething he is not which is a typical two deminsional politician; even using his own words from his books. We can't allow it.

The Case For Grassroots Based Donation

In the past I was just satisfied with casting my ballot for my favorite candidate in elections. I have noticed perhaps that strategy is simply not sufficient in this day and age. My realization was that voting is just a bare minimum one can do to stand up and be counted. Just look at what happened during the last presidential election. The so called "Swift-boat" smear campaign was funded by wealthy Republican donors, and ran just enough times to be effective. Being slapped around on the face like this sure hurts, but don't pretend it is fine, or even say it is fair game.

This is why I am saying a grassroots based donation campaign is so necessary in order to take back our government. We need a people funded leader to fight the "Big Oil" interests and the wealthy lobbyists. As long as we outnumber the wealthy donors 10 to 1 or even 100 to 1, we can be a potent force for the Good.

Where Barack Lost My Vote

Up until now I have been a big supporter of Barack Obama, and planned to vote for him. However, I'm sad to say that due to his plan to expand Bush's 'faith-based' programs, he will now not get my vote, nor any further donations from me.

I understand that Senator Obama thinks it's a good tactical idea to appeal (pander?) to a certain part of the electorate by expanding these programs, but as a consequence he has lost my vote. (And I know I'm no the only one)

Many of us see how extremely toxic the combination of govt and religion can be. We've had plenty of that under Bush, and it hasn't worked out well. This includes the Iraq war, which has its own religious undertones...

Friends,

Yesterday at the rescue ranch we had a good day...some Mommies and their 12 children...many, almost all under 4...came out for a guided tour and visit. They brought 4 bags of aluminum cans and 4 bags of carrots, pleasing everyone human and equine alike. Captain was a model horse, and exceeded even my expectations, standing very still and gently lowering his head to tots in diapers. (Additionally, before they got there, he was frisky after breakfast, even breaking into a canter, which I had despaired of ever seeing him do.)

One little boy had been badly hurt by a scared dog, and all were glad to see him reaching out to our animals. One young lady was 14, and instead of paying attention to the horses, she stayed focused on keeping her young siblings happy.

Later, we (I, actually, since Dawn still can't walk) let the April Seguin auction boys, Flame and Sebastian, in the back pasture with the paint colts, Milo and Takoda. I wish I'd had a video camera! They had a brief conference and then the two sets of brothers ran as fast as they could in great circles and arcs, bucking and snorting, tails lifted high, as if to say, "Look what we can do!" and "Oh yeah? Well, we can do this!" I have not seen that kind of speed off the racetrack in a long time! Better yet, they all settled down to be friends after, making for a harmonious evening.

I came home to find a note on the door.

In awkward handwriting:

"Miss Crystal, I mowed your lawn for you and you can pay me $20 if you can afford it or $0 if you can't afford it. Your 18-year-old neighbor, John (and his address)" I am so touched and happy.

I'm not only glad I can quit worrying about it for now, but also really impressed to see a young person taking initiative...in a positive way...in his own Oak Cliff community. I really believe this generation is going to help make our nation great...in a better way than it has been before. This is the stuff that does not make the evening news, but should. Of course, I can pay him $20, and an extra five, since gas is high and I paid the same $20 four years ago before I got a mower (which was stolen a few months ago) ....and I like his initiative. He did a fine job. He took a risk, but it was a good risk.

I'm still looking for the perfect new job, but glad to wear my Obama gear every day in the meantime.

First time for everything

I have never made a donation to a politician running for President. Ever. Just a few minutes ago, I did. I feel like I have been beaten up by our current president for the last 8 years and for the first time in 8 years, I am beginning to have hope. Hope that Barack can really bring about change to a divided nation has stirred me to act. I've watched him conduct his campaign with grace and a total lack of division that the past few elections seem to have down to a science and I applaud him on that.

With his decision to only accept donations from the public, I feel like we have a chance to derail the "washington as usual" train and reclaim what American was built on--freedom for the people and not just the political action committess and lobbyist that rule our country today. And if I didn't do what I could to help bring about that change then there would be no one to blame but myself for allowing this hope to be crushed and allowing "washington as usual" to drive us another 4 or 8 years.

You hear it all the time, “I support (insert candidate name)”. But there are massive amounts of varying degrees of “support”. The question comes down to, how much skin do you have in the game? What do I mean by “skin”? I would ask the question. What’s your contribution? Do you simply watch the sound bytes that play on television over dinner? Do you read the biased articles that happen on a daily basis depending on which candidate your local newspaper is owned by? Or do you get involved…

Putting skin in the game means that you’ve got something vested in your candidate. It means that you’re moved to do something different. It means that you put action behind your words. It’s the easy route to disagree with the sound bytes. It’s the easy route to dismiss what you’ve read in an article. But it’s something completely different to do something about it. Writing into your newspaper editor to correct facts, jumping in and creating a profile to discredit stupid smears and finally, donating either your time or your services to making a change. That’s putting skin in the game.

Not everyone can donate money, but everyone can donate time. Find that niche and stand up to small minded people that “hate” your candidate because of some trivial issue or rumor. We’re fighting to take back our country and place it in the hands of someone that can lead us out of what 8 years of the Bush Administration has done in terms of economically and the global perception of the U.S. Barack Obama is that change. I have put much skin in the game to help do everything I can to get him into office. Will you?

Most Exciting News Since Iowa

The pundits rarely understand or even recognize the seminal moments of American history as they happen unless there are explosions, large crowds, or clear winners and losers. In other words they need easily marketable events to sell to their consumers. It is the reason they missed out on the historic nature and obvious strengths of the Obama campaign a year ago and why they understood the importance of Iowa. More importantly it is why they missed the bus today.

When Barack Obama and Howard Dean decided to renounce all lobbyist and PAC money to the DNC I heard the death knell for the modern era of political campaigning. Obama already proved that a radical message of change resonates with the American people. He defeated the mammoth political machine known as Hillary Clinton! We are 16 months, 35,000,000 votes and hundreds of millions of dollars removed from the start of this campaign but stop and think for a minute at just how amazing an upset this really was.

I can only speak for myself, but Barack's stance toward's lobbyists is the reason I jumped the Hillary ship and donated what I could to this campaign.

Between the new "Obama Rules," Dean's 50-state strategy, and our amazing ability to generate clean cash the Republican Party and John McCain are trapped. They cant stick with the lobbyists because the American people won't stand for it. Nor can they renounce it. They desperately need the money to combat the charisma of Barack Obama. But ironically, if they cave to popular demand now they will appear to be following the democrats. They will lose all credibility and independence on the issue. Their choices are few. They can stick with the lobbyists and lose or renounce the lobbyists and leave McCain out to dry. Either way, we win.

But, as I mentioned at the top, this anti lobbyist strategy is difficult for the echochamber to market so it is our responsibility to publicize. This is huge! Way bigger than winning the nomination, we've known since April about that. And its way bigger than an African-American or a Woman winning the Presidency. Both would happen eventually. Lobbyists are the slime that has permeated and destroyed our government and their grip on it will only strengthen as time goes on if we do not act now.

This is our time.

First entry into the blogosphere

It's my first entry into the blogosphere! As May winds down and June begins, it becomes even more important for people who are demographically "in the Hillary camp" to speak out. I'm 52, white, and from the Chicago area. I work full time. I have kids and elderly relatives who need help. Friends who have health conditiions they have to hide because they don't have insurance and they can't go "on the record" or they'll never qualify for insurance. Looking at me demographically, I should be a Hillary supporter. But I'm totally for Senator Obama. I'm old enough to have voted in many elections - heck, I voted for Bill. Barack Obama is the first candidate I can believe in. I believe in his honesty, I believe in his commitment, and I believe in his smarts. That's why he's the first candidate I actually gave money to! Yesterday was a great day for Senator Obama's rally. The weather was perfect and the crowd was pumped! His speech was amazing and inclusive so as to announce the triumph of achieving the majority of pledged delegates while treating Senator Clinton with respect. How could it get any better you ask? WELL IT DID!

I volunteered for the event so when we were handed the volunteer id they let us know that at this event the Senator could not take the time out to meet with us but if we brought one of the Senator's books he would sign them. I was so excited because I brought with me the new Time Magazine that announced that Senator Obama was the winner. SO NOW I HAVE THE TIME MAGAZINE AUTOGRAPHED BY SENATOR OBAMA ON THE VERY DAY HE DECLARED THE WINNER OF THE PLEDGED DELEGATES! Why shout this out to all the Obama supporters? Why indeed. I want to use this opportunity to raise a sizeable donation for the Senator by giving this little historic gem away to a person that leaves a very sizable donation to Obama via my BarackObama.com page. But I am confused on the best way to do this. Any thoughts? My goal of coarse is to get the best donation I can for our campaign. Bidding is not an option on this site because of the nature of the donation page. So please message me if you have any grand ideas. The donation is made right here on his site so don't worry about this being a scam - you will donate directly to the campaign. I am even willing to pay the shipping and handling so I will not have any personal info such as credit card numbers with the exception of a mailing address. Dear Mrs. Miller;

I have walked this earth now for many a mile and many a year, and there are times when it seems like every step of the way. I've been told to wait. I walked from Selma to Montgomery and beyond with Martin Luther King, Jr--and even the sincerest of people often greeted our struggle for civil rights with a plea for patience.

"You're right, " they'd say, "but the timing isn't. Couldn't you wait just a bit?"

I walked in Dr. King's footsteps after his assassination, assuming the helm of the SCLC and marching for an end to the war in Vietnam. And politicians told us, "We know this war is a disaster, but the political climate isn't right for ending it. You'll have to wait." Today, I am proud to march alongside one of the most inspiring leaders our country has seen in a generation. His name is Barack Obama, and he holds out the promise of a new politics steeped in possibility. And once more, we're hearing that tired old refrain.

"Yes," the skeptics say of Barack, "he surely is an extraordinary leader. And yes, he most certainly was right to oppose the war in Iraq back when other politicians were backing it blindly. And, why, of course he's right about all those aching and unmet needs here at home. But he hasn't spent enough time in Washington, D.C. "Why doesn't he wait?"

Well, in most respects, I've grown more patient with age--but this time around, I hope you won't begrudge me an old man's sense of urgency amid fading time, when I tell you: I'm too old to wait.

I'm too old--and too many young lives are at risk--to wait for sanity to prevail and this disastrous war in Iraq to end. Only Barack Obama had the foresight and fortitude to oppose it from the very beginning. And only Barack has shown backbone sufficient to detail a specific plan to bring every last one of our troops home within a year.

I'm too old--and too many of our neighbors are hungry and ill--to wait for someone to deal with America's twin crises of proverty and health care. These are national shames in a nation of abundance and plenty, and Barack will tackle them with the urgency they demand. I'm too old to wait for bold leadership on global warming, on education and opportunity here at home, on genocide in Darfur and AIDS in Africa, on the many issues our politics seem too small to confront. I'm too old to wait for a politics enlivened by possibility, a politics broad and deep enough to accommodate both our needs and our dreams.

I'm too old, in short, to wait for Barrack Obama to be President of the United States.

Now, I hope you won't misunderstand. I may have walked many a mile and many a year, but these legs of mine are willing to walk many miles farther--as many as it takes to see our country's promise of hope made real. But I'm old enough to know that when people are suffering, patience is no virture. It's urgency that this moment demands.

For the choice we face is urgent. It is the hope and change Barack Obama offers--or what John McCain proposes; giving George W. Bush's failed policies, from Iraq to the economy, another four years. It is up to you and me to ensure Barrack has the resources both to talk with Americans about these choices and to respond to the attacks that, sadly, we know will continue.

If you're content to wait for change, this moment may not feel as urgent as it does for me. Buti I know you're not. I know you know that America can't afford to wait. Neither can this campaign. That's why I hope you'll join me in rushing a generous contribution--the most generous you can possibly afford--to Obama for American.

We often talk about donations here on the blog. They may be monetary, time to make calls canvass or in the many ways we all volunteer.

We all have different reasons that we support Senator Obama. It may be his message of change, his energy policy, his honesty in dealing with people telling them things that they may not enjoy but need to hear (the gas tax holiday pandering etc).

Let me tell you one that I saw first hand today.

I perform bone marrow transplants and as part of that I sometimes evaluate normal donors. These are people who out of the goodness of their hearts are willing to help someone they dont know and likely will never meet. They put themselves at risk (minimal granted) for these strangers, but give of their time and blood (literally) to help someone who would otherwise die.

Today I saw one of these people. I took his history did his exam looked at his labwork and it appears he will be able to serve as a donor. As I examined him he mentioned that he doesnt have health insurance. He cant afford it and hasnt had it for many years.

Here is a gentleman who literally lives life on the edge. He isnt wealthy enough to afford health care (does contract work), he isnt poor enough to qualify for assistance. This is a man who has been abandoned by his government but who would never complain. Despite that he is willing to serve as a volunteer, an incredible selfless act.

It is for this gentleman and many like him that we must win in Nov. It is for the millions like him who are hard working, and who think not only of themselves. It is time to have a government that cares about these people.

It is our time.

According to Terry McAuliffe, Senator Clinton's campaign chairman, Senator Clinton has raised $210.000.000 so far. Considering that she had raised $180.000.000 before April (perhaps not including the money she lend her campaign), that leaves $20.000.000 for April

Considering that she has claimed that she raised $10.000.000 the day after the Pennsylvania primary, that leaves nearly nothing for the rest of the month ...

Last night, Senator Clinton used up her last, best chance to cut appreciably into Barack Obama's elected delegate lead.

She came up short.

In fact, she barely made a dent. At most, she picked up a net gain of 12 delegates -- less than our gain, for example, in Colorado (where we gained 17) or Kansas (where we gained 14). Her gain in Pennsylvania was less than half of our gain in Virginia, where we added to our lead by 25 delegates.

But there is one measure by which her campaign's gains are real.

The Clinton campaign claims they've raised $3.5 million dollars since the polls closed yesterday.

We can't afford to let that go unanswered.

Pennsylvania was considered a state tailor-made for Senator Clinton -- she was always expected to win, and we trailed by as much as 25 points in the weeks leading up to the election.

This, by the way, is the first time I've ever donated to a political campaign (aside from the caucus and county convention where I dropped some cash). The plan is to register at least 10,000 Obama supporters who will donate $100 each. Of course, donations of lesser amounts will be welcomed. AnObamaMinute.com calls for pledgers (who can pre-register beginning Thursday, April 10) to register a donation within 60 seconds, at 1:00 p.m. on Apr. 21, the day before the Pennsylvania primary. Publicity stunt? Sure, why not? And while a million bucks may not be what it once was, it still buys a lot of TV time. Register to get in on this history-making minute!

This is a bit novel... but I don't see a problem with it.

My website www.DigitalDog.com is something I've sought to use to help the campaign in an unobtrusive way (let's face it - people come there to find out about dogs not Presidents - with not smart comments about the relationship between the two thank you! <G>).

Anyway, it has occurred to me that I can help Obama supporters (whom I'd love to help) while helping Obama. I will donate advertising on my site to those who make a donation.

So if you, or someone you know has a pet related business that would benefit from advertising in front of dog lovers - and DigitalDog's rates are VERY VERY low I promise (as little as $5 per month) - then you can use your 'marketing' dollars to support Barack.

Basically, I'd help you find a placement and rate that suits your needs and there would be an Insertion Order that you would receive a 'paid' notated copy of once your 'donation' was recorded on my fundraising page. You'd then receive the advertising. Just as normal only instead of 'paying' DigitalDog - you'd donate.

Yep, I'll donate 100% of the proceeds (not just the profit after overhead) to the campaign. So do not confuse this with any sort of commercial promotion. It's not.

Your Personal Fundraising Goal

So you set up a personal fundraising page. Now what? What does that page even mean? Is that what you hope to give prior to the election in November? Do you have hopes of actually fundraising... do you know what that means? Best of intentions are great but can often lead to inactivity. Take me for example.. I have some no how but haven't done alot myself as of yet.

So knowing ain't enough either... you have to DO IT (which was the precept behind Martin Luther leaving the Catholic church and starting the entire Protestant faith). Anyway...

Posting here is charming and encourages other committed Obama supporters to throw a few bucks in your bucket but I think we all know it probably doesn't change the final tally much. Let's face it, everyone in here is going to give what they can give in any event regardless of which button they click to do it. So the real 'gold' is OUT there. But how to find it?

Find some cute kids and dogs ... put the kids in Obama tshirts and get some good pictures. People LOVE pictures of kids and animals. Put them in your blogs, website, everywhere you promote your fundraising.

Do you have a blog on any other website or any other website in general? Will you be able to post about your fundraising? either placing a button on the page or in your blog? or links? Consider going to other forums and posting and placing a link to your fundraising page on those posts. Look for sites that offer a link exchange and do that with your profile and/or fundraising page.

Put a link to your profile and fundraising page (a linke for each) in your signature line of your email or even more dramatically as the FIRST line of your emails.

Offer to do something as a service or outrageous to get donations... perhaps a day of trash pick up, or wear an outrageous costume on a street corner (can be for laughs or somehow educational), purchase inexpensive Obama gear (like buttons, bumper stickers) and give one with everyone donation of $10 or more. Pull on a talent - pledge to write and sing an Obama song at an open mike night if you generate $X in donations or offer to create a letter for each donor to use in sending to newspapers, etc. for every donation over $20 (or whatever).

Organize an event - yard sale, bake sale, concert, community festival, art show, craft show, picnic, pool party, pet show - can be as simple or involved as you want - and let everyone know the proceeds are for Obama's campaign.

To get the word out for such events, stay low tech and local - flyers, business cards on bulletin boards, as well as the online stuff.

Join groups on my.barackobama.com to help find others interested in helping and participating in more ambitious events.

You don't have to do it ALL. Pick and choose or brainstorm for your own ideas.

wow, $40 MILLION in March!

The campaign announced today that more than 442,000 contributors across the country together contributed more than $40 million in March. Of those contributors, over 218,000 were donating to the campaign for the first time.

In a press release, campaign manager David Plouffe said:

Senator Obama has always said that this campaign would rise or fall on the willingness of the American people to become partners in an effort to change our politics and start a new chapter in our history. I've noticed my little thingy that says how much I've donated says I've donated $25. Yay for me! That may seem small, but that's what I make at my little crappy part time job in a week! Add on what I've bought from the Obama store and I've donated $90 all on my own. If I can manage to do that, so can everyone else. We all need to pull together to get this done. It's the little people against the political machines of the opposition. We can still prove that Americans are in control of their own destinies and not puppets of politics.

Well, I finally did it. After all the years of just watching politics and debating politics i finally decided to get involved in my own little way... I made a donation haha. It's a big first step for me so i thought i'd document it with this posting.

The idea here is that Americans couldn't hold on to a dollar if their life depended on it so the government can benefit from that weakness by making a loan back to the populace of their own money (borrowed from China because the politicos already spent our initial remittances) so that we will then run out and give it back to the corporate Robber Barons to whom we are all indentured....so that they can then purchase an even larger share of our collective soul and sell that for even more profits to sovereign wealth funds.

A new poll sponsored by CreditCards.com says half of Americans don't plan to spend the money at all, and those who do are more likely to pay existing bills. If this poll holds true, it will reduce the effectiveness of the stimulus on the plan to enrich the corporate Robber Barons even further. It turns out Americans may not be so dumb and spendthrift after all.

So here is an alternative plan for those tax rebates. Individuals may contribute up to $2300 to any candidate or candidate committee per election. Why not make an investment in the future of your country and ultimately your children's and grandchildren's lives by contributing that tax rebate to Senator Barak Obama's campaign for President? Even if only the 50% who planned on spending it did so, imagine the possibilities!

An Inspired Army on the Phone for Barack

It's quite a feat. The participants are still reporting it but it's clear that of the 15 or so we've heard from so far, Barack's Inspired Phone Bank Army was responsible for more than 3000 phone calls in those days leading up to the Mississippi Primary. An all volunteer group from all over the country, we utilize the information in the phone bank on the website (and the occasional list provided by an overworked Precinct Captain) to get the job done.

Recently, I blogged of a pledge drive of one penny per call. Those three thousand calls will add up to just $30.00 to those that made the pledge to support us with ONE PENNY per call during the Mississippi Primary lead up.

Wouldn't you like to be part of it? Knowing that you are encouraging us everytime we pick up the phone. Everytime we reach someone who is very friendly or not so much!? Knowing that even when we might feel a bit deflated we are enthused and motivated - by YOUR PENNIES!

Consider a pledge for our callers leading into Pennsylvania. You can cap it for a specific timeframe or dollar amount or even pick ONE caller to give special support to and pledge for their calls alone rather than the whole group.

I hope you realize how proud I am that this group is so positive and so supportive. Many of the people on the phone and in this group are people who were too intimidated to even consider making their first call until they connected with the group and got some advice and encouragement.

In one short month, a group called Barack's Inspired Phone Bank Army has grown to over 100 members strong. People who pick up the phone and make call after call from all over the country into areas of interest on behalf of Barack Obama! We're proud of it.

Maybe it's not your thing, maybe you're shy and choke up, maybe you just can't imagine dealing with the occasional swear word or hang up. You can still help. You can still encourage us to do more and help more..

We're asking for pledges of ONE PENNY per call.

That's it. One penny. You can support the entire group to a max donation or you can pick one caller and support them to a dizzying goal... pledge ONE PENNY per call. We don't care if it is to a max of 500 calls ($5) or just the calls of one of us in Pennsylvania (or whatever state you select) of all the calls we can make in a week. Pick your pledge. Pick the limit.

We want to raise $1000 for Barack...and that is only 10,000 calls. 10,000 calls divided among us is less than 100 calls per person. Help us do. Help us feel inspired.

Do you have any idea how much of a chuckle it would be to us to realize we are getting 'paid' to make the calls? Do you have any idea how ridiculous but true it is that getting paid ONE PENNY to be hung up on would make it worth it? It would -cause then we would you know YOU were out here supporting and encouraging us even through those occasional tough ones.

Delegates Matter!

Last night was a tough night to be watching returns, but I have confidence our man will prevail. Obama is not naive, and he knew from the outset that this would be a hard fought campaign. Stay positive, and stay focused! Do whatever you can to help the campaign. Make a donation. Any donation. (My husband and I try to make one, however small, every payday.) Wear a button. Put a bumper sticker on your car. Print (or draw) a sign, and put it in your window. Make two phone calls a day for the PhoneBank. Have your kids put stickers on their notebooks and bookbags. Have your kids add a widget to their MySpace page. Download a screensaver or ringtone to your cell phone. (They're FREE!) Add an "I SUPPORT OBAMA" badge to your email signature. Pick-up or print some of your state's voter registration forms and carry them in your car or purse, so you can give them out when you find someone's who's not yet registered.

These are all little things, but they do a good job of inviting conversation about our candidate without seeming invasive. Think about how many people a day, hear your cell phone ring, or see your car on the road or in a parking lot. I am amazed when I wear my button out, how many people approach me to ask me where I got it, and how can they get one too.

Made my third small donation to the Obama campaign jsut now, after investing about 2 hours research time watching everything from Anderson Cooper/Larry King to the last Democratic debate (which I have on DVD).

I am very ill with some sort of respiratory problem that walk-in clinics have not been able to solve in 4 months. They have been very reasonable to not charge me more than $95 for any one visit, but I am looking forward to see how Universal Healthcare would impact this situation.

I agree most with Barack's Healthcare plan. Universal Healthcare should be voluntary. What I would add is that perhaps it can be purchased in blocks of 90 days, for those who do not have a regular paycheck to draw from.

I have already started typing out my story...doesn't need to be long or fancy, and don't be worried about grammatical errors, if there is any editing needed we will do it and send you a final proof to approve.

I plan to have a portion of the proceeds (or should I say as much as law will allow) go to Barack's campaign for the presidency...once he is officially the nominee. =) Whatever I cannot donate to Barack will go to Brad Pitt’s Make It Right, creating housing for Katrina victims.

Please include your name (first and last if you don't mind, if you do mind than just first), city and state. If you would like to include a headshot, go ahead and attach that as well. At this point I am not sure if they will be included, but at least I will have them available.

This is our chance to explain to the people that this is not a phenomenon; this is over a million voices crying for change.

I am flying down to Texas to help with the effort there through the 4th and will only be able to review and respond to emails in little bits and pieces. Feel free to take your time writing this story, as of current I don’t have a deadline for a completed project, but I am going to estimate it will be about three weeks. I sent in a donation around 3 in the morning last night! I was surfing CNN and decided to check out Barack's page again because I had not been by in a while. When I arrived, I saw the big ad displaying that the campaign had almost reached 1 million donations. This number was astounding to me. Many people go out and vote and share their opinions and support a certain candidate, but getting one million American citizens to give of their money to support a candidate is incredible! I was starting to scroll down and move on when I saw the line on the ad: One Million People Who Own This Campaign. That struck me immediantly. These people owned this campaign. Without the American people at his back, Obama would not be riding this tidal wave (perhaps tsunami is more accurate) of public support that he is. These individuals who gave of their money truely did own the campaign, and truely did give of something to make this force of change exist. Without thinking, I hit the donate button. Now, I'm only eighteen years old. I work at Red Lobster and consider myself very lucky to get twenty hours in a week. Therefore, my donation probably is not going to make an impact on the overall campaign. Still, to be one of the many, or perhaps the few, that gave of their money made me feel like I made a difference, and God knows that it is exactly what we need.

I Extended My Commitment to the Obama Campaign

I extended my commitment to the Obama campaign today by donating another $50 in matching funds to encourage a new supporter to donate to Barack's warchest.

I also set up my personal fundraising page with a target of $1,000 and sent invitations to 25 people asking them to contribute. I had hesitated to do this since I don't usually like to ask friends or family to donate money to causes I believe in, but I decided that they are all free to ignore my e-mail if they're Republicans, support Clinton, or just don't care.

A glimpse of frustration.

Achievement yields the remarkable feeling of accomplishment, especially when it contributes to a substantial return-on-investment in the near future. Well, this achievement was the $20 donation (or investment as I would call it) I just made out to Obama on his website earlier today, and this near future is Election Day. Now, $20 is a lot of money to me because I'm a 2nd year college student who is depending on student loans to pay off my books and tuition costs. I'm relying on my investment to reflect my support for Obama; to say that I've made a commitment to believe in a change that is unique and unlike anything that I've ever seen in politics.

But then, I have to remind myself that I'm not the only one that lives in this country. It's unfortunate to see that my investment has the possibility of going stale, because not all eyes see the same. Perception is reality, and the more I see pessimism and negativity watering down "good" politics, politics of hope, the more unease is inflicted upon my mind. It will be interesting to watch the growing support for Obama in the coming weeks; more investments to accompany mine perhaps. The question is, will it be enough?

i ordered my obama gear a weak ago with the fear that my obama gear may not arrive until the weekend of the primary. as it turns out, yesterday my complete order is displaying that it shipped. excellent news! the store warns against a two or three week delay, but perhaps my order size or location was flagged... who knows?

when i didn't receive the delivery today, i called to get a tracking number because UPS from the ohio warehouse should have been here already. i was told there had been a computer glitch and my order had not shipped. in talking to the customer service rep, however, i discovered that by upgrading from UPS ground to EXPRESS SHIPPING, i could receive in-stock items within two or three days! the additional cost was nominal given my order amount. with postal increases on irregular packages, always price check UPS or FedEx before assuming the savings is worth the extra wait.

all in all, if you read my previous blog... i am very concerned with what i see as a lack of mobilization in ohio. merchandising was just one thing i had in mind.

to get gear faster, knock-offs are sold on ebay. keep in mind that anything bought through the obama store is a donation to the campaign which is why t-shirts cost twice as much. this means directly funding the battle against clinton attacks. a win-win! however, to assure you arm the team with resources in a timely manner, upgrade to EXPRESS SHIPPING.

huge oversight in merchandising. by now, the marketing folks should have already invested in meeting demand by addressing the supply issues as well as the online store distributor's problem in expediting orders in a timely fashion. i was told by the warehouse that they do not have the staff to expedite in-stock orders quicker and they are unable to advertise the guaranteed EXPRESS SHIPPING because it would likely result in an influx of requests that they could not meet.

if we are willing to use our bodies as billboards, whomever is in charge of merchandising should be overcoming all obstacles to accommodate.

TO RECAP: I AM AWARE THAT WHEN YOU PAY FOR SECOND DAY EXPRESS SHIPPING THROUGH THE OBAMA STORE, YOU WILL RECEIVE MERCHANDISE IN 2-3 DAYS INSTEAD OF 2-3 WEEKS. I PERSONALLY HAVE HAD A SIGN IN MY KENTUCKY YARD FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS!!! FEEL FREE TO PLACE ORDERS... DON'T SELECT USPS OR UPS GROUND.

When you are placing a large order as I did, you'll find the additional cost to be nominal. Call to upgrade to EXPRESS SHIPPING for orders previously placed. I was told this is not widely advertised because, if everyone requested EXPRESS SHIPPING, they would not be able to meet EXPRESS needs.
