It is an honor to be nominated let alone win the Nobel Peace Prize. Americans have something to be prideful of because our President was nominated and won! The reasons for the committee's choice are not ours to debate. The nobel prize has been around for years and is a non-partisan award. Throughout the world in the past few years, Americans would travel abroad and not admit to their citizenship. The world hated Americans. Now, our country is being viewed at peace makers and not destroyers. It is something we should hold our head up high in pride.

Already this morning, two hours after the announcement, I was on a social game website and the argument and slander was all over the place. Judging the inaccuracy of the committee's decision and why after nine months in office, President Obama had not changed much. Few things happen overnight. If change is to occur in this struggling economy, it needs to be well planned. President Obama has the framework of many changes ready to enact if Congress would work with him. We have to remember that the President didn't nominate himself for this honor. He was recognized for his leadership in trying to create peaceful relations with all people.

Bernanke vs. Larry Kudlow: FRS all over the MSM; Debate & Discussion Question.

I ran accross the 3/15/09 60 Minutes show online, http://beta.sling.com/video/show/130320/87/60-Minutes,-031509, and I find the show pretty interesting, though Bernanke doesn't go through the entire history of the FRS. (I won't go through all of it here, but there are plenty of links and sources about the full story, if you're willing to know. Remember, Woodrow Wilson regretted creating the FRS).

About Bernanke's policies, though, IMO, he's either fooling himself or he's a pretty shrewd actor, as he seems emotionless throughout the piece (or it could be the editing).

It could be global warming, or even the solar system heating up (Yes, apparently, it's not just the Earth that's heating up, http://www.livescience.com/environment/070312_solarsys_warming.html.), but this guy, who's not a college undergrad, has his own opinion about Bernanke's policies: http://capitalbeat.com/?p=2647.

WASHINGTON -- Michigan Democrat Carl Levin and seven of his fellow Democratic senators are opposing speedy action on President Barack Obama's bill to combat global warming, complicating prospects for the legislation and creating problems for party leaders.

The eight Democrats disapprove of using the annual budget debate to pass Obama's "cap-and-trade" bill to fight greenhouse gas emissions, a measure that divides lawmakers, environmentalists and businesses. The lawmakers' opposition makes it more difficult for Democratic leaders to move the bill without a threat of a Republican filibuster.

The budget debate is the only way to circumvent Senate rules that allow a unified GOP to stop a bill through filibusters.

"Enactment of a cap-and-trade regime is likely to influence nearly every feature of the U.S. economy," wrote the Democratic senators, mostly moderates. They were joined by 25 Republicans. "Legislation so far-reaching should be fully vetted and given appropriate time for debate."

It takes 60 votes to overcome a filibuster in the Senate, but Democrats and allied independents currently control 58 seats.

Under a cap-and-trade system, the government would auction off permits to emit greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. The auctions would raise almost $650 billion over the next decade, with the cost passed to consumers as higher energy prices.

The proposal is highly controversial, especially in heavily industrialized regions where people get their electricity from coal-fired power plants. Obama's promise to use most of the revenue to award $400 tax credits to most workers hasn't quelled the controversy since the increases in utility bills could easily exceed the amount of the tax cut.

The other Democrats who signed the letter, addressed to the chairman and top Republican on the Senate Budget Committee, were Robert Byrd, West Virginia; Blanche Lincoln, Arkansas; Mary Landrieu, Louisiana; Evan Bayh, Indiana; Ben Nelson, Nebraska; Bob Casey Jr., Pennsylvania, and Mark Pryor, Arkansas.

The 25 Republicans were led by Sen. Mike Johanns of Nebraska.

The House and Senate budget committees are slated to vote on the resolution next week, with Senate debate scheduled for the week of March 30. (end of article)

As part of the Obama “team“, I have received several emails urging me to support the President’s Budget. I do not support it in its entirety, for the reasons given in the above article. “Cap and trade” should be debated separately on its merits and not pushed through as part of the Budget bill. If it stays in, I trust that Senator Levin will vote against it, and I hope my other senator, Debbie Stabenow, and my congressman, Gary Peters will do likewise. This budget need not be swallowed whole. Long-term goals and their proper implementation should be properly debated. What’s the big rush?

One thing for everyone to know, hearing the two of them combined is funny, but it reminds me of people going after each other on the show, Yomamma. (Look, both of them are talking about drinking coffee while criticizing sarcastically each others' opinions about the housing plan.)

Both of them bring VALID POINTS THAT *EVERYBODY* NEEDS TO CONSIDER!!! Disagree with me if you like, but how they are going about it seems immature.

Another point, I am critical about the MSM's influence on issues and opinions, and I've made this really clear on many of my pre-election posts. Also, due to the biasing that the MSM has done, it is understandable that Obama's staff have been really edgy. However, in this case, the concerns from people like Santelli are from a point of view that happened to start off as off the mainstream, but it managed to become a signal that the MSM is paying attention to on its radar!

In my opinion, I am happy that Rep. Paul's supporters are getting some well-deserved MSM coverage, but also, that Pres. Obama is also doing what he can under the stressfull and intimidating conditions he has been going through.

HOWEVER, ONE THING MUST BE KEPT IN MIND, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT YOU SUPPORT OBAMA OR PAUL OR ANYONE ELSE, MAINSTREAM OR OTHERWISE: THE MSM, OR CORPORATE MEDIA LOVES IT WHEN A DEBATE OVER AN ISSUE DISSOLVES INTO A HISSY FIT BECAUSE IT MAKES GOOD RATINGS, AND THE SUPPORTERS OF EITHER SIDE BECOME SO POLARIZED INTO SUPPORTING THEIR PERSON OR ISSUE THAT THEY BECOME UNWILLING TO HEAR THE OTHER SIDE OUT, WHICH IS ALSO WHAT THE COPORATE LEADERS WANT IN ORDER TO KEEP THE *TRUTH* OF THE SITUATION SILENT!!!!!

I know that some MyBO members may disagree with me, while people who are C4L members that casually read MyBO might take my post as ridiculous, but granted that there are bills like HR 645 that are out there that no one is paying attention to, and there are several other events called out on blogs like MyBO and C4L, it would be nice that people remember to actually calmly and open-mindedly speak to each other.

Because it requires open and honest discussion and the issues at hand are worth looking into, I say that it is necessary that supporters from MyBO and supporters from C4L, as well as supporters from other sites have an open dialogue about this before we become too polarized!

Agree or disagree, but this is my opinion based on my observations on the video links.

YES I read the entire link I posted (took me just over an hour) and it just seems to me that everything cut was everything Obama promised to keep, and everything kept was what Obama was against when he was running.
OK so my actual question after all of this is this: Why are we cutting sciences yet throwing hundreds of billions of dollars towards the military still (see article X in the linked article.) I'm not an economist, I just noticed a very ugly trend in the above documents and would like someone with a bit more economic experience to explain (please!)

Enough is Enough

For several days now, I have listened to the accounts of the goings on in the Senate. The grandstanding, complaining and fake campaigning all done by Senators that quite frankly could care less about what is going on to the millions of people in this country right now. Some of these Senators (yes I am talking about the Republican variety), have been listening too much to Rush Limbaugh or whatever over stimulated right wing windbag that exists in la la land.

These Senators are trying to hide behind the idea that the people they represent don't want big government spending. They are trying to sell us a bill of goods that these people only want lower taxes. Well let me say this: If there are people out there that seriously think that a lower tax bracket is going to solve their problems- then I see how we landed in the economic death spiral we are currently in.

The Republican Senators have decided to do a de facto filibuster. Proposing needless and pointless amendments that have absolutely nothing to do with this Recovery Plan that is before them. I blink in disbelief when John "The Fundamentals of the Economy are Strong" McCain has the nerve to stick out his chest and act as if he is doing Americans a favor. I never knew these Republicans cared so much about spending- Fmr President Bush was allowed to run up the bill for 8 long devastating years, not one peep out of them.

Enough is enough. It is time to put these people out to pasture. They do not represent me nor my ideas and beliefs. The Republicans would rather hijack this country to soothe their wounds than work together to pass a bill that would get our country back on track. Country First? Yeah Right!

When we first began corresponding with Khalid Awan in 2007, we had no idea why he was serving time in U.S. federal prison. We soon discovered Awan was one of the first of thousands of Muslims taken prisoner in the post-9/11 U.S. "terror war." As the story began unfolding in our letters, we began to realize that this honest, humble and sincere man was not only innocent, but the ongoing injustice being done to him provides critical insight into the mindless, meanspirited, bureaucratic-yes-men idiocy fueling the illegal U.S. "war on terror" (and just about everything else that is going wrong in this country). At our insistence, Awan wrote his story and supplied us with whatever documents we requested. And now, after three months of cooperative efforts, the story of Khalid Awan can be told. We have come to know Awan as a peaceful man engaged in peaceful work who has been wrongfully accused, detained and repeatedly convicted of crimes he did not commit because he was a Muslim with international connections and an office in New York on 9/11. My name is Khalid Qayyam Awan. My rights have been eroded in the name of "national security." Since I am a Muslim, my story has been written, produced, directed, choreographed and staged by U.S. government officials.

The Department of Justice and the FBI have been under pressure by the Bush administration to find "terrorists" in this country and to preemptively convict them before they can strike at the U.S. Although there is good evidence that there are few, if any, potential terrorists in the Muslim communities of the United States, U.S. attorneys who are not able to find any real "terrorists," target, prosecute and convict innocent Muslims on phony or inflated criminal charges to show they are politically "loyal to the president," and to avoid being fired for political reasons, as recent news revelations strongly suggest. These prosecutions have destroyed families in a country that is renowned for its human rights activities around the world.

Background

I am a 46-year old Canadian citizen and native of Pakistan. Throughout my life I studied in Catholic Christian schools and read the Bible every morning. I received my Masters Degree in Political Science at the University of Karachi in Pakistan and I am one of the founding members of the Pakistan Human Rights Commission. As a result of my belief in humanity and equality, I moved to Canada in 1993, becoming a Canadian citizen in 1996. In Canada I worked as an immigration consultant and was a member of the Canadian Bar Association. As part of my business, I also had an office in New York, which is where I was on Sept 11, 2001.

October 2001

On October 25, 2001, U.S. government agents entered my house in Garden City, NY, without knocking and yelled at me to drop everything or they would shoot me. They forced me to lie on the ground while they handcuffed me and placed me under arrest.

They claimed they had received an anonymous tip that I was a material witness for the 9/11 World Trade Center terrorist attack. After my arrest, I was taken in front of New York Judge Michael Mukasey (current U.S. attorney general known for his Israeli sympathies). After a detailed investigation by the FBI and U.S. Naval Intelligence, I was put in front of a Grand Jury. The case was dismissed on November 6, 2001.

Charge #2

Before I was released from custody, on November 5, 2001, the U.S. government imposed new charges: "Conspiracy to Commit Fraud and Money Laundering." They alleged that I stole/misused the identity profiles of my clients, people who come to me seeking to obtain Canadian visas and citizenship in the U.S., although there was not a single complaint from any of my clients or any banks.

(Note: Journalist Dr. Paul Craig Roberts stated in his 12/11/06 column, America’s Injustice System is Criminal: "The criminal justice system today consists of a process whereby a defendant is coerced into admitting to a crime in order to escape more severe punishment for maintaining his innocence. Many of the crimes for which people are imprisoned never occurred").

Every defense attorney knows that today prosecutors can purchase testimony against a defendant by paying "witnesses" with money, dropping charges against them or reducing prison sentences to testify against defendants. Jurors tend to trust government prosecutors and are generally unaware that they will withhold exculpatory evidence and suborn perjury and bear false witness to obtain convictions.

Months went by. Then a year had passed and I was still "detained" without a trial for crimes I did not commit. My lawyer advised me to plead guilty. He said it was in my own best interests as I would be "facing 10 years on the money laundering charge" due to the current climate in New York courts and my being a Muslim and a native of Pakistan. By this time I had served 17 months in detention, so I pled guilty to $95,000 of fraud conspiracy, which carried a maximum sentence of 15 to 24 months. The plea agreement—release for time served—was not even honored and I was sentenced to five years, the sentence for approximately $2,400,000 in credit card fraud.

Appeal to Canada

In January, 2005, when I was finally able to apply for a "treaty transfer" to Canada. I learned from my case manager that my citizenship was listed in the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ (BOP) computer as "Pakistani" instead of "Canadian." All my Canadian documentation—passport, citizenship card, social insurance and health cards and Canadian drivers license—were in the possession of the FBI. I wrote the Canadian Consulate in Buffalo, NY, to request that they fix this problem so I could be transferred back to Canada. On March 30, 2005, the Canadian Consulate sent a letter to the jail to correct my citizenship status, but the FBOP ignored the request and did not correct the computer.

I realize now that the BOP intentionally left my citizenship as "Pakistani" to make me administratively ineligible for transfer to Canada and keep me in the U.S. while the U.S. government prepared new charges against me.

A year later, six weeks before my scheduled release date, I was transferred from Allenwood FCI to the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, NY, supposedly in preparation for my deportation back to Canada. I signed the immigration deportation papers, which incidentally, contained my correct citizenship status. Later I learned the Allenwood FCI warden had been given a summons from Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) Lawrence Ferazani in January, 2006, requesting for me to appear in federal court in Brooklyn, NY, on February 15, 2006.

Family threatened

Once in Brooklyn, on January 31, 2006, I phoned my family in Montreal. I learned that Officer Buttazzoni from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) had contacted my sister regarding the whereabouts of my wife. He was told that she had returned to Pakistan. Buttazzoni left his phone number with my brother-in-law, telling him to please tell my wife to call him back immediately. She called Buttazzoni several times and left messages on his voice mail, after which Buttazzoni told my brother-in-law to tell her not to call him again.

Then on February 17, 2006, I was brought by AUSA Ferazani to an office in New York to be interrogated by the FBI without an attorney present. I was told by AUSA Farazani that if I did not talk they would arrest my sisters in Montreal and my wife, who had returned to Pakistan. He said, "We just have to make a call."

I was surprised and scared that he knew where my family lived. He stated, "If you don’t tell me [what I want to know] I can recommend lethal injection to the court and call the press and tomorrow morning you will be in every newspaper as a big terrorist."

Another federal agent told me that if I did not cooperate, they would turn me over to the Indian government, an enemy of Pakistan, which would treat me as an enemy.

At this time I was certain that my family was in danger because they were living in countries that work closely with U.S. law enforcement and intelligence agencies. After seeing my liberty evaporate when I was cleared of being a material witness in the World Trade Center tragedy, I had every reason to believe that the overarching power of the government would secure my family members’ arrests and inflict severe punishment on them. I strongly believed the RCMP was working in collaboration with the FBI to harass me to admit to charges of crimes that I did not commit. I thought about how the RCMP officials had played a role in other discrimination cases that included the interrogation and torture of Canadian citizens Mahrar Arar, Abdullah Almalki and Ahmed EI Matti, whose only "crimes" were being Canadian Muslims.

Because I felt I had no other choice, I signed the Miranda Rights waiver forms the agent gave me, waiving my right to an attorney’s presence during questioning and spoke with agents of the U.S. government on Feb. 17 and 20, 2006.

February 17, 2006: Interrogation…and bribe

I was pushed to the edge during this interrogation. Even though I could not answer all of their questions, I was determined to provide anything they wanted, even if the questions made no sense. I tried to give answers so they would be pleased and not give me the death penalty or harm my family.

During this interrogation, the agents offered me the opportunity to work for them in an "under cover capacity" abroad in Pakistan and Canada. They wanted me to testify against a group of Sikh people, on fabricated statements, based on my association with them from when I lived in Pakistan. I refused. So they told me to keep in mind that they wanted me to testify against people who are of the Sikh religion from India, an enemy of Pakistan and, because I am a Muslim, I should not have any concern for them.

I said, "But they are human beings! If they did something wrong and I knew about it, I would be more than happy to help the law, but you are asking me about something which I know nothing about."

The agents waited a couple weeks and then started asking me again, this time through my attorney. Upon my continued refusal, Officer Buttazzoni in Montreal again approached my family. I told them to get an attorney and not to go to his office without a legal written notice from him. They followed my advice and the RCMP stopped calling them—but not before the FBI was able to create a self-incriminating statement based on "evidence" they secured during their interrogation of me without the presence of my attorney. As a result of this, prosecutors were able to go in front of a Grand Jury and indict me, based on my own (fabricated) statements, prepared by federal agents without my signature.

Third charge March 16, 2006

On March 15, 2006, I completed the term of my imprisonment and was to be deported back to Canada. Before I could even go out onto the street I was arrested a third time and charged with "Providing Material Support to a Foreign Terrorist," and "Money Laundering to Support Terrorism," for supposedly providing support to the Sikh organization Khalistan Commando Force (KCF), through a man of the Sikh religion, Mr. Paramjit Singh Panjwar (PMJ), whom I met once when visiting Pakistan.

These charges emerged while I was still in prison and had no capability to provide KCF with any kind of support. It was difficult for me to get enough finances together to pay my legal fees while I was in prison for five years and I could not launder any money because I did not have any. In the plea agreement I signed for my previous "money laundering" charge, it is mentioned that no further money laundering charges would be brought against me, so this was double jeopardy and a violation of the 5th Amendment of the Constitution.

August to December, 2006: administrative detention

I appeared in court and pled "not-guilty" for my second "superseding indictment" on August 2, 2006. Upon my unwavering refusal to work for the government on their fabricated statements against the Sikh people, FBOP officials placed me into the Segregation Housing Unit (SHU), for 210 days of segregation and isolation despite the fact that I was rated as needing low security on the government’s "Male Custody Classification Form."

Segregation was continuous torture as we were not given basic amenities or respect and the building was cold and leaky. I went on a hunger strike for four days and after that I filed various complaints with the FBOP higher authorities, but no action was taken.

October 2006

After my refusal to work for the government on their case against "two individuals" they had identified as "potentially to be joined in this matter, but at this stage we don’t have enough evidence to charge," the government went to them and indicted them and, giving them a lot of benefits, prepared them to testify against me.

During my pre-trial hearing, the first two counts of my indictment were dismissed due to lack of facts and figures. Within two weeks, AUSA indicted me again, probably to cover up for their huge embarrassment. This hastily drawn up indictment was also full of factual errors and creative legal theories.

This time, in the bill of particulars/indictment, AUSA Farazani included the names of the following participants as co-conspirators in this "conspiracy."

1) Khalid Awan—me
2) Paramjit Singh Panjwar—Leader of Sikh Khalisto Commando Force (KFC), residing in Pakistan (not indicted).
3) Gurbax Singh—Indicted as co-conspirator #1
4) Baljinder Singh—Indicted as co-conspirator #2
5) Jatinder Singh—Residing in Texas (not indicted).
6) Dr. Pritpal Singh—Residing in California (not indicted).

Except for me, all the "co-conspirators" are elected leaders of the Sikh religion, a group of people known in Pakistani history books as the worst killers and rapists of the Pakistani nation, having killed, raped, burned and cut into pieces a hundred thousand Pakistani Muslim men, women, girls and infants during the world’s largest migration from India to Pakistan in 1947.

Sikh Background (a little history)

To better understand the game the U.S. government was playing with me and the Sikh people, a brief history is necessary. The mid-1980s to the mid-1990s was a decade of violent political opposition in Punjab, an area divided between India and Pakistan. The pattern of unlawful and indiscriminate arrests and killings during that time has left a lasting legacy of "catch and kill" police practices in the state. In the early 1980s, the Indian army attacked the Sikh Holy place called the Golden Temple in the Punjab State of India. About 10,000 civilian lives were lost while hundreds of people were detained without charge or trial and thousands of "disappearances" and extrajudicial executions were carried out by the police.

As a result, thousands of Sikhs fled to various countries for asylum. Many of the Sikhs who were living near Pakistan took refuge inside Pakistan, having the advantage of speaking the same language and the area being home to established holy places where Sikhs from all over the world came annually to perform their pilgrimage to the Pakistan side of the Punjab state. Pakistan is like a Vatican for the Sikhs, because the Sikh religion was started there and is the birthplace of their holy guru.

Among these Sikhs, PMJ also took refuge after members of his family were arrested and killed by the Indian police. In Pakistan he started producing videos about the attacks and killings of Sikhs by the Indian police, and started printing and distributing literature on the Sikh problems at the hand of the Indian government. He also started broadcasting a daily radio program and running various charities for Sikh families in India and Pakistan whose bread-winning family members had been killed by the Indian government.

I met PMJ during a visit to Pakistan when he was living next to my brother-in-law and I invited him to a wedding. He wrote his phone number down for me on a piece of paper. He also wrote down the number for Baljinder Singh, his friend in New York, because he was a community advocate for the Sikh people who might refer clients to me for immigration purposes. I kept the number, but did not call him.

The FBI had been after Baljinder Singh ever since he delivered a speech in front of the White House at the "Sikh Million March" on Washington in 2000. The FBI had called him for interrogation from 2000 to 2006, but was unable to arrest him. When they interrogated me on February 17, 2006, they told me they needed me to testify in court that the Pakistani government was taking care of terrorists in Pakistan and New York. It was Baljinder Singh, and Gurbax Singh, a close relative of PMJ, that they wanted me to testify against, and since they found his and PMJ’s phone numbers during their search of my office in New York after my arrest in 2001, they deputized their paid Sikh informant, Harjeet Singh, into my unit at MDC in 2006.

Harjeet told me he would be released from federal custody in the next six months and he wished to visit Pakistan for the annual Sikh pilgrimage there. He asked me if I knew some Sikhs in Pakistan who might take care of him during his visit. I replied that I did know Paramjit Singh Panjwar, who was there on asylum and introduced them over the phone.

The FBI then went to Baljinder and Gurbax Singh and convinced them to testify that I had transferred $4000 (two $2,000 transactions allegedly conducted between 1998 and 2002) from them to Pakistan on behalf of PMJ. In exchange for this, they dropped the charges they had against them and promised amnesty from the Indian government (for armed attack on Indian police) and U.S. green cards for them and their families.

PMJ has not been indicted by the U.S. nor convicted by the Indian courts of anything. No effort has been spent for his extradition by U.S. "terror war" ally, Pakistan, though the Pakistani government has, according to AI, handed over 700 Muslim citizens to the U.S. government.

According to my attorneys, no American citizen of the Christian faith nor of the Sikh faith has ever been arrested for providing material support to the KCF, even though the KCF is a Sikh organization that draws its support from members of the Sikh community.

I, on the other hand, a Canadian citizen of Pakistan origin and Muslim faith, on Sept 12, 2007, am the only person in the U.S. to be convicted of terrorism, on fake, fabricated and government purchased testimonies of the Sikh’s religious people, for transferring $4000. I was convicted and sentenced on three counts:

1) Conspiracy to provide material support (14 years)
2) Providing material support to foreign terrorists (10 years)
3) Money laundering to support terrorism (14 years)
Total: 38 years to run concurrently (14 more years in prison).
Jail

The government sent me to FCI Terre Haute Prison in Indiana, a "medium" prison with the exception of one isolated unit, called the "Guantanamo Bay on American Soil,"—Unit D, the "dog unit."

According to the history of this jail, this unit was built in the 1930s for Cuban people, after which it was used for convicted members of the Ku Klux Klan. Then it was used for death row inmates until its "permanent closure." It was re-opened with minor repairs for Muslim inmates because they are worse than death-row inmates—not because of their "crimes" but because of their religious beliefs.

We are denied many privileges according to BOP policy because we are Muslims. Visits must be through glass and phone calls and outgoing mail are routed through Washington D.C. The buildings are old and leaking so it’s cold in the winter, flying insects in the summer and air circulation is poor year round. Lead is seeping out of the walls and many inmates suffer chronic joint pain.

The government is trying to goad us to act violently so they can justify their claim that we are dangerous, but they have failed. According to the jail guards this Muslim unit is the most peaceful they have ever seen in any prison anywhere and they ask to be allowed to work here.

I agree that those guilty of terrorism should be prosecuted, but innocent people should not be targeted. Locking us down in this dirty, old, cold, leaking building and prohibiting us from hugging our children and restricting our calls to them will never bring peace to this country or make this nation safer.

To the American people:

I have been singled out, isolated and discriminated against because of my race and religion. I am being held here in detention against my will for crimes that I never committed. I am not a terrorist and I should not be treated like one.

The AUSA succeeded in getting a verdict against me from the jurors in December, 2006, with the help of the media glamorization of the "war on terror." I have been convicted of guilt by association; of making the FBI angry and vengeful by refusing both to work for them abroad in an undercover capacity and to testify against members of the Sikh religion using their fabricated statements; and of being a Muslim and native of Pakistan.

Isn’t it time that all humans are equal? Isn’t it time that everyone is free to choose his faith? Are human rights protected by law? We hear this, but we would like to see it – especially in this country called the United States of America that claims itself across the world as a champion of human rights.

Again, I'm going to say this again, I'm quite leery of guns, but this is worht the debate, and to reference Ammendment II:

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

I'm curious to what you think! I hope we have a lively, yet respectable debate!

It's the Little Things that Help

My son works in what is euphemistically called "the service industry". He works on the Spirit Cruise (you know, there's one in every city with a decent waterfront location). He brings people their drinks and replaces their dropped forks and makes tips on the strength of his charm and witty repartee. Other times he serves as part of a crew of mercenary caterers swooping through the banquet hall at local colleges or convention center hotels. He aspires to tend bar--the tips are better.

He has mentioned to me on so many occasions that if the workers would just pay attention to the little niceties of service they'd get better tips (as he seems to do). "Mom, it's not that hard to be polite...and it pays better too."

I've noticed in my work and family that I meet people who sometimes withhold mannerly expression as if it might run out if they said "Thank you" or "Excuse me" too often.

Certainly there are folks to overdo it, gushing effusive praise or apologies for no good reason, but some folks are just manners misers!

Kids especially...and I'm talking pre-teens here...seem to have no concept of those "Magic Words" my folks and teachers crammed into my brain.

And drivers! On my 10 mile city commute I rejoice when just one driver waves "Thanks" when I let them in, or just one driver stops to let another get into a parking lot. There have been a lot of things that have made me too late to get the close-in parkiing spots at work. Letting a driver merge is not one of these things.

Maybe that's why I don't like debates. I hate the "gotcha" atmosphere of most political debates and some interviews as well.

So give some thought to the limitless supply of kindnesses you can do for others.

Suggest New Secretary of Communications Position

Communications is the new frontier. Newspapers are being converted from print to internet. Huge amounts of money are wasted through lack of standardization, redundancy, and difficulty in querying and finding data. We need to standardize not just electronic medical records, to prevent duplicating services and errors, but also utility bills, credit card bills, contracts, court records, prison and jail records, and any communications which are fundamental, frequent, and subject to privacy and security concerns.

Elderly and disabled persons often have difficulty in the area of communications. Changing the format of utility bills causes a problem. Difficult to read credit card bills causes chaos. Incomprehensible contracts are a disaster.

National security is highly dependent on communications - on the battle front, for homeland security, to prevent terrorist attacks, to prevent crime. However the privacy concerns are huge. Intelligence may sometimes compromise privacy. How do we balance these?

Information technology is poorly understood by most Americans. We need increased education in this area.

Mediation, debate, giving and following instructions, about almost anything are necessary skills in society. How can we increase our skills as a nation in this area?

Please give your conerns about what needs to do and why centralizing these concerns in one cabinet level position may be efficient and move us forward quicker or the opposite view.

    My name is Susan Theophilopoulos I am a registered nurse working at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota FL. I have listened with much interest to the pass year’s campaign promises, particularly those concerning health care. Working in the hospital as an acute care nurse I get to see first -hand the needs of the uninsured and the underinsured and the financial strain that their needs are placing on the hospital. This problem is only going to get worse as our economic problems worsen and the number of unemployed increases. This population usually does not have a primary care physician so they come to the emergency room for their health care needs, all too often they end up admitted to the hospital because lack of follow-up care has caused their condition to worsen. When they have to be admitted to the hospital their hospital stays turn into weeks, sometimes months to assure that they receive the full course of the antibiotic therapy required. Those patients covered by some form of health insurance are admitted, stabilized and then discharged with proper follow-up care; their discharge often takes place within three days.
I have been discussing this growing problem with other health care workers, nurses, doctors, etc. and I have developed a plan, which if implemented with as little red tape as possible, just might help the situation.
   I propose that the government set up small health care clinics in residential neighborhoods, not unlike the old corner grocer. These neighborhood clinics should be able to provide basic medical care and minor emergency care. They would be able to triage the patients and send those in need of hospitalization on to the nearest emergency room, sending their paper work with them to streamline the admission process. These clinics should be within blocks, not miles from the population that they serve. They should be able to provide, child care for cold, flu, vaccinations and well child check. Prenatal care, EKGs, basic x-ray and wound care as well as daily IV antibiotic therapy if indicated.
   This sounds like a very lofty proposal and very expensive, but I propose that there are ways to contain the costs. First, the clinics can be small, housed in existing building, our banks are carrying many foreclosed houses on their books. They could be approached to sell some of these properties at a greatly reduced rate. Let’s face it, if one bank does not want to co operate then perhaps the one down the block would be interested in taking advantage of the offer. Second the government would provide the equipment and medications need to effectively run the clinics. Third it would become part of the licensure requirement, that if you are licensed to practice within the state, either as a doctor, nurse, respiratory therapist etc, then you are required to work free of charge at least one day each month in the clinic to which you have been assigned. These clinics need to be open 24 hours, and at least Monday thru Saturday, which is not difficult to accomplish, because health care professionals work days and nights, they would just be assigned their usual shift. Lastly the people who live in the community that the clinic serves will be responsible for maintaining it, like keeping the interior clean, maintaining the landscaping so that the building does not become an eye-sore in the neighborhood. That way the community assumes ownership of their clinic and takes pride in it.
   Perhaps this plan or something similar has been proposed in the past, and has fallen on deaf ears, but the time has come to put self serving greed behind us and reach out to our communities. Everyone who lives and works with in a community shares in this responsibility.

What I would do with this website…

MyBo wasn’t more than a tiny seed when I began blogging here over a year ago. I’m still reeling from the realization that we have come this far, but much remains to be done and President-elect Obama is going to need all the help he can get. So in the spirit of cooperation, here are my suggestions for what could be done with this website.

The campaign issued a statement last week saying the website will live on but I feel they may have underestimated its power and potential. It seems they are focusing entirely on this website as a tool to make “real-world connections”. There can be no doubt that these tools and the “on the ground” campaigning effort that were possible through the organization of this website, is the main reason why Obama will soon swear the oath of office. But I believe there’s potential for more than just community organizing in this website.

There are countless sites on the Internet these days, offering blogs and other type of personalized pages, fueling people’s inherent need to express themselves and connect with others. This has evolved organically over the past few years and, speaking as someone with great interest in human psychology, it is a truly fascinating process. As someone commented to me recently; soon we’ll probably be assigned an e-mail address and a Facebook page at birth!

We use these tools to make ourselves a part of the ever growing community of humans, allowing strangers to access our thoughts and hopes, while at the same time keeping it all at a safe distance, keeping our physical selves so to speak, apart from each other. It gives us a chance to declare ourselves to the world, take a stand and make ourselves heard, while still limiting access to that which is most private.

I can’t even imagine where this process will end but I’m excited to be a part of it. I also think it’s an unprecedented opportunity for President-elect Obama to put his money where his mouth is (pardon the blunt expression) and make his Presidency as open and flexible as he has declared he would. For what is more open and flexible than the Internet?

Since I’m not a US citizen, the tools for the community work this site has offered, is of no interest to me, as impressive as they are. My suggestions here are entirely selfish in origin and based on the notion that the United States of America is not just another country among many, but rather holds a unique place in human evolution. The US represents the merging of ideas, hopes and dreams, not just of its own citizens, but of the world. This does not mean, as many republicans seem to think, that we all want to move there. I have no desire to become a US citizen; I’m perfectly happy where I am. But I would like to live in a world that’s safer and more prosperous and I firmly believe the United States of America is the only place where the potential seed for such a future can have a chance to grow.

Structuring a website to cater to the needs of a President facing perhaps the greatest crisis in human existence, is definitely a monumental challenge and what I offer here are only a few humble suggestions and keeping in mind I have no actual technical experience in this matter. I’m also fully aware of the initial cost of building a website like this, but I firmly believe it will pay off in the long run.

My completely unbiased (haha) opinion of Wednesday's debate

On Wednesday October 15, I watched the final presidential debate between Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain. It was hardly eventful (except for the “I am not Bush” outburst from McCain) however, I believe it was the funniest of all the debates. But I have an odd sense of humor. They were asked questions on many different topics that the American public and Joe the Plumber care about but unfortunately, they spent most of their allowed time avoiding the subjects. If your name is Obama, you defended your campaign and if you’re McCain, you talked about how your feelings have been hurt or rolled your eyes distastefully at everything your opponent had to say. But eventually, they did start answering the questions. You had to sort through the massive amounts of opposition statements to find some answers but once you did, you could figure out who was more likely to get your vote on November fourth.

Both senators talked about healthcare and their plan if they get elected. I will say now that I am extremely biased toward Obama and most of my three pages of notes are on how great his plans are. (Okay that’s not true. Most of my notes are how much I think McCain is an idiot.) Senator Obama believes that healthcare is a right and that everyone deserves it. He wants to save Americans $2500 a year on healthcare and if you already have a healthcare plan, it will either stay the same cost or even become less. I don’t know the specifics of McCain’s plan, however I do know that he doesn’t think it is a right to all Americans and isn’t trying to work hard to make sure every single person has a healthcare plan. He also tried to let Americans know that Obama was planning on taxing us up the wazoo if we didn’t buy into his government funded health plan; asking the question, “How much are you going to tax them, Senator Obama?” to which he replied (calm, cool and collected, might I add), “Zero.” If you weren’t watching the debate, you missed one of McCain’s all time best shocked face. I believe he even mouthed “Zero?!” All in all, it was a really great ten seconds in my living room (as my family and I are, to quote Amy Poehler/Hillary Clinton “fervent supporters of Barack Obama”).

The next issue that got me heated up was abortion. The question asked was actually, “Would someone you appointed to be on the Supreme Court have to be in agreement with you on the Roe v. Wade case?” or something to that extent, but it shifted to both their stances on abortion. This is the point in the debate where Obama makes my heart go all mushy (which doesn’t happen that often). He says he is “pro-choice” and that a decision regarding abortion “should be left up to the woman [involved]” with help from her family, friends, religious group, etc. One, I am a firm believer in the “no uterus, no opinion” rule and it is evidenced that he is as well, and two, I really don’t like someone making any of my decisions for me, let alone one that would cause such an impact on my life. McCain did not share my views, and called Obama “pro-abortion.” (I’d like to take this time to raise the question, who exactly is pro-abortion? Because I’ve never actually seen anyone out protesting with signs that say “Please abort your fetus.”) And to add insult to injury, for McCain, anyway, he called himself a “proud pro-lifer.” That would make such a nice bumper sticker; it can go right next to his “proud old-timer” one on his one of thirteen cars. (Or is it fourteen? He’ll get back to you.) If you can’t tell, this got me very worked up and it was at this time I threw my pen at the TV in disgust and lost it.

The final issue of the debate was education reform. And again, I have to go with Obama on this one. (Although, seriously, when have I not?) He wants to encourage early education and have parents re-instill the “thirst for knowledge” which will lead to better test scores. And for us kids who’ve already been to early education and are now facing the grim future of being swimming in tuition loans until we’re married and sending our own kids to college, he wants to help us out too. For every 100 hours of community service we do, $4000 will be taken off our loans in some way. Sure, it isn’t paying for college, but when you live in a nice neighborhood but aren’t growing your paychecks on trees in your 8000 square foot backyard, aren’t athletic enough to get a scholarship and aren’t blessed with DNA coding that makes you Hispanic, Native American or Asian, you could use a little help in the financial department. And McCain’s big extravagant plan to make sure America’s future gets some form of higher education: oh wait, he doesn’t have one. He just simply stated, “The school system needs reform.” Thank you, Captain Obvious. As a senior in high school and aware of political issues and the evident economic recession that is upon us, I needed to be told that.

After an hour and a half of mostly verbal sparring between the two and a fair amount of colorful language from both my mother and me every time McCain opened his trap, the debate came to a close. I didn’t learn too much, to be honest. I came out of it with the same opinion I went in with, and most of my opinions were only reinforced: Obama is clearly the best choice for president, I’m moving to Canada if he doesn’t get elected and I will always laugh if someone, even the one who picked her as his running mate, calls Sarah Palin a role model for women.

The Candidates On Video Games

During Wednesday’s debate, Senator and presidential candidate Barack Obama brought up a new campaign front, video games. The issue was triggered after Bob Schieffer, debate moderator, asked the two Senators about their education policies. Obama’s response was, “Turn off the TV and put away the video games”. The statement was directed at irresponsible parents but was later interpreted by console-hugging children around the country as a threat. One child is reported to have said “Well I really hated it, but he said it, so even though I do hate it so much, um, well whatever.” Coincidentally, this was said while the child was engrossed in an intense Lego Batman Xbox 360 session.

As well as children, so-called “hip” parents abroad are protesting Obama’s new video game policy, while John McCain is (not surprisingly) yet to have responded to the issue. Despite negative impact, a Chicagoan mother’s response had an approving tone. “Yes! I’ve waited so long for this. Thank you, Barack Obama.”

Debate Breakdown - What really happened

Summary

As usual, I believe the overall winner of this third and final debate was Barack Obama. The main reason being that he never strayed from issues, and as a result of that, McCain’s “side-step” answers were, well, just wiped right off the field.

It seems as if the topic of the debate was “Joe the Plumber”, who was portrayed by John McCain as a hard-working American, who would like to purchase the company he works for, but would not be able to because of Barack Obama’s tax plan. First of all, Joe Wurzelbacher would not be affected negatively (or possibly at all) by Obama’s tax policies, because the business he wants to buy (and himself) makes less than $250,000 a year, thus not being touched by the plan. Second of all, Mr. Plumber here isn’t a licensed plumber! This just goes to show how incredibly false McCain can be, and all to attack Obama.

Biased review of final debate from Star Tribune... take action!

The StarTribune's analysis of the last Obama-McCain debate was obviously biased toward McCain.

McCain has the ability to deliver a prepared speech but is incapable of seeing the consequences inherent in unanticipated actions. McCain not only faltered for words three times and dogmatically repeated himself because he couldn't think outside the box of his own preparation, but because he does not think well on his feet, resorted to rudeness and agression to express his frustration. McCain's stubborn frustration with his own inability must not be mistaken for strength. Most reviews of the debate had Obama clearly winning and with this biased review readers who did not watch the debate might be swayed.

Post-Debates Analysis

NOTE: This post is on both my Xanga site and the smaller blog I've started up on my Kizyr for Obama page.

It might seem odd, but debates are my favorite part of a campaign. I have a particular affinity for them, since I spent my high school years doing Lincoln-Douglas Debate in the National Forensic League. (Incidentally, my debate coach during high school was the same person who coached Al Gore for his Vice Presidential debates, and Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen in his televised debates.)

Anyway, I enjoy debates since it gives you an opportunity to see a certain side of candidates: when and how they've prepared, how they respond to expected questions, how they respond to unexpected questions, how they address one another, how they view one another, what aspects of their policies or doctrines they emphasize, etc. Given all that, I should warn you that this will be a bit long. Also, I won't be covering the specific issues so much; for that, I recommend you just read the transcripts or watch YouTube clips of the debates.

What I thought I'd focus on this time is what the debates said about the candidates' preparation. The way someone behaves and answers questions can tell you how they prepared and what they were coached to do (and coaching is not a bad thing--anyone with common sense will get help before a debate, and the ultimate goal of any coach should be to help you present yourself the way you want to be seen). That being said, there were particular things you could tell Barack Obama, John McCain, Joe Biden, and Sarah Palin were all prepared and coached to do, or trying to do. I'll try to skip over some of the more obvious stuff, and just add a few of my impressions coming from a former debaters' standpoint.

Being Fair to Joe the Plumber

I was bit disappointed with the discussion of Joe the Plumber in the last debate. But not because McCain chose to take from the discussion an issue that divided us: Should we “spread the wealth around” in a way that might seem be more equitable through a socialist-like redistribution of income? Nor was it because it propagated the fiction that there are lots of people just like us, teachers, fireman, and plumbers, who make $250,000 a year. I expected that. What disappointed me was that Obama didn’t take the opportunity to make a case for progressive taxation that was a foundation of the economic message in his book, The Audacity of Hope.

There are values that we all share. Values that define who we are as a nation: (1) The American Dream: that every American, no matter who they are or where they come from, can achieve a good life for their family it they work hard and play by the rules; (2) Fairness: Everyone should pay their fair share of the costs for the benefits they reap from our society; (3) We Are All in this Together: In America we rise and fall together. We don’t cut and run, abandoning those who stood by us in the social compact that binds us as a nation.

The case for asking Joe, or anyone else that rises far enough to make $250,000 a year, to pay more taxes than the rest of us has nothing to do with income equity and redistribution and everything to do with these basic values. Joe benefited from our educational system and from laws and regulations that kept the playing field level for people like him. Before he became successful, he couldn’t afford to fund these things from which he benefited as much as he can now. Does he really want to deny this same opportunity to those who, though no fault of their own, haven’t yet become as successful as he has?

Joe, because of his success, uses, and benefits from, more of the resources of our society than someone less successful. If you have seven houses, you benefit much more from the fire protection budget than someone with none. Joe has benefited more from the stable economic climate our military expenditures and economic regulations have provided. His fleet of vans and the chemicals he sends down drains cost us more as a society to clean up after than a teacher does. Does he really think it is fair to not pay his fair share for the systems he benefits from?

If Joe were to become old or disabled, lose his business, or face a catastrophic illness in his family, we as a society would not abandon him. We are only as good as we treat the least of our brothers, and only as strong as the weakest of our neighbors. He depends upon his neighbors being well off enough to buy his services. His quality of life depends on the people in his neighborhood having enough hope to keep them from turning to a life of crime or drugs. He is not an island: his customers, the people who serve him when he goes out to dinner, who bag his groceries, and valet park his car all affect him and make up his community. Now that he has made it, does he really want to abandon them? Will he really cut and run on the people with whom he lives? We are all in this together.

I thought Obama’s performance was good enough. But what I really would have liked to have heard in this time when fear is overpowering hope, what I really would have like to have seen, was Barack Obama’s calm face and warm eyes looking our from my TV screen and saying: “In America, anyone can become Joe the plumber. In America, if you play by the rules, anyone make a safe home for their family. In America, even in this time of trouble, we are all in this together. This isn’t just in Red America. This isn’t just in Blue America. It’s just America, and these are the values that define us.”

Update on the Petition to Boot Debate Moderator Brokaw

Thanks again to all of you who took time to add your name to our effort to force the Commission on Presidential Debates to give the American electorate the BEST chance to compare our choices for leadership of our great country. We delivered the petition and your 2,100 signatures to Janet H. Brown, the CPD Executive Director, as well as several other Commission officers. Copies were also sent to top NBC-Universal executives, hoping the network would respond to our demonstration of dissatisfaction of the bias in their programming.

Sadly, we failed to even get a simple acknowledgment from ANYONE for our efforts. And as we saw, during the debate moderated by Mr. Brokaw as well as his subsequent behavior on the weekly Meet The Press show and various MSNBC programs... his obvious prejudicial (pro-Rep/anti-Dem) favoritism continues.

Turns out that “Joe the Plumber,” as he became nationally known when Senator John McCain made him a theme at Wednesday night’s third and final presidential debate, may run a plumbing business but he is not a licensed plumber. Chuck the Plumber Speaks Up

Coming from a long line of plumbers myself, I felt a real kinship with Joe Wurzelburger, or Wurzelbacher, or Worzelbacher, as I cheered John McCain for whupping that foreigner Obama’s you-know-what in their dust up at my guy Jimmy Hoffa’s alma mater.

‘Cause I know that Joe knows what it feels like to squeeze your tired butt under a bathroom vanity on a Sunday morning at 6 AM for some blowzy socialite wife of a rich-guy banker in a nosebleed tax bracket who had too much Chablis at a liberal democrat fund raiser and dropped an emerald-studded diamond ring down the Florentine marble sink drain under the gold-plated faucets in the fancy can off her million dollar boudoir when she came home drunk.

I’m actually kicking myself for not going to that Obama rally too, since if I had I might of run into Joe or Sam What’s-his-wizzel and introduced myself to him -- Chuck the Plumber, like the side of my truck says. Then we could of made common cause together getting that tax-and-spend Yahoo-sayn to ‘fess up to the fact that he’s after 36 cents out of every dollar I clear after the first quarter million at $55 a journeyman’s hour roto-rooting backed up sewers and roughing in toilets and salvaging copper pipe out of half-built houses in wasted subdivisions croaked by all those subhumans who made out like bandits with all that subprime mortgage lending.

I’m not really too sure what McCain’s going to do for me personally tax-wise when I grow my plumbing shop to the point where I’m so rich that that terrorists’ pal would take away most of the profits anyway. But the old maverick says he plans to put some more cash in the pockets of wealthy folks who still have enough dough stashed away after the market tanking to remodel their gourmet kitchens and designer bathrooms. Now that sounds like a jobs program for guys like me if I ever heard one! And I do believe as soon as fightin’ John gets a handle on the war over in Eye-rack he’ll cut some slack to us Plumber Joes and Plumber Chucks and all the rest of our six-packing middle-classmates with all the money he’ll save by winning big there. Plus that foxy Sarah Palin’s locked and loaded to hunt for more oil off Alaska, which is good for me also if I want to expand into the home heating side of the business.

It won’t be long now ‘til we know if our next President will be a real war hero who’s been around the block a few times and knows like he says how to fix everything that’s gone wrong in Washington since George Bush tricked us into voting for him and then sold us all out, or if we’ll get a guy who’s wet behind a pair of pretty big ears that seem to get whispered into by a lot of very questionable friends.

I know who I’m voting for anyway.

Oh and John, after you and Sarah finally take over the White House I’m your main man when it comes to stopping embarrassing leaks. Joe the Plumber doesn’t have a license.

If he had fallen into the 95 percentiles which qualify as the regular Joe or the middle class, I would have understood but in his own words “if you are successful” should you be penalized. Joe the Plumber doesn’t want to give back to the country that has mad him successful and would prefer to think it as Socialism. How selfish Joe!

I own a small company in Sarasota — John Phillips Plumbing Service.

I have been in business more than 11 years and, by any standard, I have been successful for most of those years.

But, in response to the questions posed to Barack Obama by "Joe the Plumber," and mentioned repeatedly in the presidential debate Wednesday night, I have to say: Paying higher taxes is the least of my worries right now — because people won't owe taxes if they are not making any money.

In the last couple of years — as a result of mismanagement, lack of oversight and rampant greed in the greater economy — my business has gone from eight employees to having one employee part-time.

My sales are off by 70 percent. For the first time in 11 years, I am having a hard time paying my fixed overhead — things like fuel, rent, electricity and insurance.

All the material I buy for my business has skyrocketed in cost, with no end in sight. I am going to have to downsize my shop because I have no need for 3,000 square feet. I have already cut my employee's pay by 25 percent. I can't offer medical benefits any longer, and it is getting harder to pay for vacations and holidays.

The problems my business is experiencing are not isolated; they are industry-wide, with few exceptions.

A few things that would help this situation immediately — cracking down on illegal immigration, for example. My company's workers have been replaced by a band of illegal immigrants.

The effects of these illegal workers are depressed wages and higher unemployment. National builders have found a way to outsource our work without leaving the country.

The other problem is the cost of fuel. The major oil companies profit at the expense of every other industry. Almost everything I buy is petroleum-based and controlled by the price of oil.

So, I have just a little advice for "Joe," who said he is thinking about buying a plumbing business in Ohio: If you have a job now, you may want to consider staying in that job until this economy gets moving again for all Americans, not just the Wall Street types and oil executives.

The chances of a small business start-up surviving in a good economy are not very good. So, "Joe," you may want to hedge your bet by waiting for the dust to settle on this crisis before you venture out into the world of small business.

If and when you take that leap, and if you are fortunate enough to make $250,000 a year in that small business, paying higher taxes will be the least of your worries.

The polls after the debate show that Barack Obama is the clear front runner. Many believe that he came out tops in all the debates. I think that with his obvious skills that he should win more convincingly over a debater with such an obvious lack of skills. Take the now infamous line “Sen…I’m not President Bush, if you want to run against President Bush you should have run ..4 years ago” There should have been no pausing and the retorts should have been many. And this Joe the plumber could have been silence immediately. But Obama was still very effective.

Fate After The Debate

Foreign affairs, healthcare and the economy

All Independents wanted to hear what would be their policy

The National debt, housing, abortion and tax

Energy, any of these, discussed to their max

And what they got was the time being used

For thoughtless exchange on topics abused

The Bill Ayers saga and Acorn too

Every reference outplayed, everyone battered through

Republican wanted this kind of attack

They got what they wanted but it didn’t stir Barack

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

What do you think McCain's strengths and weaknesses were during last night's debate?

I do think that at times Obama was on the defensive; however, he held his ground firm and strong. There were no facial expressions of complete utter surprise, because well...he's managed a pretty darn good campaign and his advisors are complete and thorough.

Obama's best point as McCain wanted to launch personal attacks is that the McCain campaign's preoccupation with loose connections says more about his concern for the American public than it does about Obama. While people are losing their houses, 401(k) savings, jobs, ect...you want to talk about a loose connection? I'd rather McCain convince me that I don't need to fear the task of selecting a health insurance provider on my own in the event that my employer drops health care. I have two options, and quite frankly....I don't get most of it. I select a decent plan that's middle of the road, and I appreciate that all the options are laid out for me by my employer. I don't want that to be an additional headache. So yes, McCain...please focus on things that affect ME. (I'm acitng republican-ish...b/c it's all about me).

Also, I would really like to understand what a federal government spending freeze means for me and my fellow citizens. Will this impact my daily life, will it impact my extended family that isn't as well off as me, or my extended family that is doing much better than me? McCain, explain this to me. Would you suggest local governments to do the same? You know the governments that support the education system, police, firefighters, etc. We're already laying off and reducing local governments. Call me crazy for thinking that federal assistance would be a necessary option in the event that a local municipality is unable to keep their constituents safe and educated given these trying economic times.

Obviously, I'm a democrat by nature...I find myself to have strong civil responsibility to my fellow citizens. It's not all about me, because I know that I can't make it in this country alone. Like a firefighter, sometimes I believe that you have to sacrifice yourself for the benefit of others, especially when you're better prepared and equipped to battle the fire than those caught in the flame. So a lot of what Obama said resonated with me.

In terms of the Ayers connection. I turn around and think...okay, let's talk about associations and character, Mr. McCain. You left your crippled first wife for a younger rich model. You were married two months after your divorce was finalized, so essentially you cheated on your wife. Then you were caught on recorded calling your second rich WIFE, the person with whom you share a last name, a trollup and a cunt. Those actions disturbe me a million times more than Obama sitting on a board with a bad guy. In one instance Obama chose to serve on a non-profit board for something positive. In the other instance McCain chose to disrespect the women closest to him. Perhaps that hits home to me a bit harder because I am a woman.

In regards to the conversation on abortion. I REALLY, REALLY need pro-lifers to understand that pro-choice does not equate to pro-abortion in the same way that pro-life does not equate to anti-choice. What pro-choice means to me, is that I respect my right and other womens' rights to consult their spiritual advisors, doctors and families to ensure that they are making the safest, healthiest and best decision for them given their circumstances and situations.

McCain wanted to point out that he has an adopted daughter. She is from Indonesia. Not to take anything away from that; however, this is an American election. McCain: adopt inside the United States and promote sex-education if you seriously think that abortion should be outlawed.

McCain also put woman's health in air quotation marks. Look, birth control is already not covered by insurance, despite the fact that viagraa is. Rape victims were paying for rape kits in Wissilla (the only municipality in Alaska that was engaging in that practice). Adoption is extremely difficult in the USA. And you think women's 'health' is extreme and taken out of context at times?

Then we're talking about Sarah Palin being qualified. He pointed out her 'experience' as governer in Alaska and her stance on special needs families. So basically she is positive for some of the smallest populations in all of the USA. I do not take away the need to support special needs families; however, I'd also like to focus on families that can't provide healthcare to their children, whether their children have special needs or not. I'm sorry...your $5,000 rebate/credit will NOT support the family who needs to purchase $12,000 insurance, which was previously provided by their employer.

Joe the Plumber: I don't trust this at all. His last name is shared with one of those indicted in the Keating 5 scandal. Ohio is NOT THAT BIG. There was a lien filed against him because he didn't pay taxes and he's not even a licensed plumber. So this "I'm a plumber wanting to open my business woah is me for paying more taxes," is a crock of crap in my book. Furthermore, what plumbers in small towns do you know that make more than $250,000? Perhaps more than $250,000 in revenue, but I'm a CPA and understand that there are deductable expenses that most likely bring your AGI below $250,000. And again, back to the firefighter correlation. If I, a person making less than $250,000, can't afford my gas or groceries, I damn sure won't be calling on some Plumber that doesn't think that I should receive a tax break. The person making $250,000 will truly benefit if he has...umm...a CUSTOMER BASE.

Furthermore, McCain wants me to trust Joe the Plumber to grow his business, or rather, the economy organically without oversight or regulation. Is this the same trust that I lent to the mortgage Company that I have a loan with that will balloon if I don't refinance before 2010? The same mortgage Company that flipped my loan over to some Giant wall street company that I am helping to bail out? I'm sorry, but greed and money go hand in hand. I don't have the answers as to how much oversight/regulation is needed, but I don't think that people will act benevolant and with other's interest in mind if they can profit from doing slightly dishonest, yet legal actions.

Which leads me into a thought on crime. Crime increases during times of siginificant economic disparities. Stealing is bad any way you cut it, but I'd have more empathy for the father/mother who stole some groceries to feed their family than for the Wall Street billionaire who encouraged that father/mother into a shifty mortgage loan.

Which leads me to the thought of fairness in taxes. Warren Buffet pays approximately 17% in taxes. His secretary pays approximately 30%. Please, somebody explain what is fair about that?
