On June 27, 2003, Rear Admiral Barry C. Black (Ret.) was elected the 62nd Chaplain of the United States Senate. He began working in the Senate on July 7, 2003. Prior to coming to Capitol Hill, Chaplain Black served in the U.S. Navy for over twenty-seven years, ending his distinguished career as the Chief of Navy Chaplains.

Chaplain Black has been selected for many outstanding achievements. Of particular note, he was chosen from 127 nominees for the 1995 NAACP Renowned Service Award for his contribution to equal opportunity and civil rights. He also received the 2002 Benjamin Elijah Mays Distinguished Leadership Award from The Morehouse School of Religion.

Church & State Talk Radio was created as a bipartisan empowering, informative and motivating radio production. Welcome to my blog for Senator Barack Obama. Many of us are familiar with our candidate's accomplishments. But then there are those who know the truth but choose to deliberately mislead the public. As if they didn't already know (they worked alongside him for years, for goodness sakes!), they endeavor to put questions out there to confuse constituents who do not have access to this knowlege.

So, I'll repeat one of their questions: What exactly has Senator Obama accomplished in the IL State Senate and during his tenure thus far in the US Senate? Detractors try to tell you dismissively that he's only good for a speech; detractors who have co-sponsored Bills with him in the US Senate.

Fighting back the knee-jerk response of calling them outright liars (in public), I decided to visit the Library of Congress website at http://thomas.loc.gov/ and search for all Bills and Amendments sponsored or co-sponsored by Senator Obama. Take a look at the bulk of the Bills he has sponsored - Bills that have not yet been voted into law - and you will see some of what a President Obama has planned for education, veterans and military benefits, healthcare, the economy, the environment, foreign policy, energy, the reduction of poverty, and more. Note below, that as early as 2003 in the IL State Legislature, Obama supported preditory mortgage lending legislation aimed at averting home foreclosures. Soak it in. Judgment! Foresight! Bipartizanship! Accomplishment! Then laugh in their lying faces!

In addition to Bills sponsored in the US Senate, I also discoverd that there are several pieces of legislation, voted into law, that was sponsored by Senator Obama. Note too, I have grouped the Bills found on the Library of Congress website by category for easier perusal. There are over 100 Bills and Amendments sponsored by Senator Obama this past year alone; since his arrival in the US Senate, 4 Bills he sponsored or co-sponsored have been signed into law. The Library of Congress database only goes back to the beginning of 2007, and I do need to locate their archive for prior Bills. However, note that two of Senator Obama's Bills were passed into US law in 2006 - evidence that his work predates the current database entries. No "empty suit" here. Read on.

Obama's Best Strategy for Clintons, Vice President Nominee

In Obama's consideration of his selection for Vice President, among the prospects discussed were retired military commanders, including, Senator Jim Webb of Virginia. Obama must not only select a solid VP, but he needs to bring in a military person in a key position to go toe to toe with John McCain on foreign policy and terrorism, as well as he must find a way to reach the blue collar male voters in states like Pennsylvania and Ohio. And, he must figure out a STRATEGY where he can not only APPEASE the CLINTONS, but UTILIZE them to his political benefit.

Obama is already gaining good numbers on the economy, and I believe his VP selection strategy must focus on the war and terrorism and his selecting a respected military/foreign policy mind. Perhaps someone like Jim Webb of Virgina, who might also help Obama with the blue collar vote. With Senator Edward Kennedy's failing health and age limiting his role as the senior spokesperson in the Senate, Hillary Clinton's new found popularity makes her a shoe-in to take over the leadership of the Senate. She needs Obama to gratefully give her the floor at the right time at the convention, a promise from Kennedy and a few others, and she's set. I believe this would make her very happy as leader of the Senate, though she'll also ask Obama to agree in principal how he would work with her as President. I think Hillary looks taken care of.

Bill Clinton is a different story. I think he and Obama BOTH need to appologize to each other for things that were said in the primary, even though most would agree it was more Bill Clinton's doing. But, Bill is the senior of the two by age and tenure, and Obama should give him this. Next, I think what would make Bill happy, as well as Obama, is if Bill could speak and work within the party (and possibly his campaign) on domestic, states, and economic issues. Bill Clinton has a lot of skill in state matters and governments, and between this, the economy, and kind appothetic words from Obama, I believe Bill Clinton could become very happy. But - Clinton must understand it is Obama's turn at the wheel! Not easy for Bill, but with Hillary happy in the Senate, it increases the prospects Bill could be made happy too. I actually see Bill Clinton helping Obama more in the 2008 general election than Hillary, as he still is the "brand," where Hillary is more an unproven brand, and more the image or brand for the new "woman" in politics. Bill can help heal the chasm in the white working male vote I think more than Hillary, and it won't look like either are kissing ..., and Hillary keep her promise to women, and albeit thru husband Bill and Obama.

That's my proposal. How many of you think it holds water?

Hello All!

You may or may not have seen this article circulated, but I found it very informative and a testament to how much Obama has done during his time in the US Senate, versus HRC.

It's also a testament to the 'grassroots mom' who took the time (as we should all be doing) to go out and do actual research, rather than just listen to the soundbytes and talking points the media injects to further their narrative. So, thank you for doing the legwork "Grassroots Mom".

If you know someone who is on-the-fence, or you yourself are undecided, please read/blog/pass along this article because it ends the argument for all those naysayers who claim Obama to be "all rhetoric, no substance".

It's lengthy, but well worth the time to read, so please, take the time to educate yourselves if you want to brush up on his legislative work. The Chris Matthew's interview with Sen. Watson (yikes) put the campaign in damage control, but the more we as supporters can learn about his accomplishments and how he's managed to reach across the aisle, the better informed we can be to discuss intelligently with HRC supporters and those claiming we're drinking the koolaid!
