OFFICIAL OBAMA VICTORY PARTY

As most of you know the Obama Election Night Celebration that began with just a few people in my living room has grown into what is expected to be the largest event of the year in Utah for Senator Obama. It is now the official party for the campaign here in Utah.

We will be holding it at IN THE VENUE (579 West 200 South) from 4pm-Midnight the night of the Election. We have opened the party up to supporters of all ages but there will still be a private bar for those supporters 21 and older. To date, we have posted almost 1,000 full sized posters all over the Wasatch Front advertising this event and handed out thousands of fliers.

We are anticipating thousands of supporters at this historic event for Utahns. The price for entrance is only $2.70 and this is only to cover the cost of the event. There will be free food, entertainment, live election results, and media coverage. This will be THE PARTY to be at on Election Night.

We are now 2 weeks away from this event and volunteers are needed to help setup this event the day before. Those supporters who can assist in setting up or by making in kind donations of food are asked to contact me as soon as possible so I can begin coordinating the volunteer effort.

It has long been my dream to host an event in Utah that would harness the enthusiasm our candidate has brought to new and traditional voters alike. This event is sure to be a celebration of not only the events and hard work that has brought us together, but also a window into the future possibilities of Utah Politics. Something has awoken the voters in this state from there long slumber and hopelessness. This night will be the beginning of a movement that will not only see this state go blue someday, but will usher in a new era of politics, respect, and excitement for all the people of Utah who's voice has been forgotten.

Barack has taught us that anything is possible and I ask for you help in promoting this exciting event. There is a myspace, facebook, and craigslist page for this event. Text, email, mail, and share this event with all those who are looking forward to change!

As always I thank you for your support and hard work this season.

Sydney Rhees- Event Organizer (Obama Steering Committee Member)

801-654-0503
sydney.rhees@utah.edu

The Convention Watch Party in Salt Lake City

Thank you to all of you who participated and volunteered last night at Canyon Rim Park. A special thanks goes to Mike Lookinland who kept things running with the giant screen.

All four major news stations covered the event as well as local papers and radio stations.

Kristen Garbett did a great job running the soda and snacks booth and Rob Skraznas was a great host. The event was hosted by Rob, Kristen and I. Over a dozen volunteers registered voters and signed up more future volunteers. Sydney Rhees merged his ever-expanding house party with ours and we really appreciate his help and participation. If you haven't seen his house it is on 7th East. His little paint job has made the papers. He also brought cardboard Obama and many people took pictures with him.

We don't have any banners locally, but by all means, if you want to make something and display it on your home that says a lot about your support.

Many people brought homemade signs and banners. Obama t-shirts abounded and some even got their dogs into the spirit by decorating them. No animals were harmed or will be harmed in this campaign. I swear.

We had around 300 people attend. More than that showed up just to get yard signs. Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker attended and gave a great speech.Candidates Jean Welch Hill, Brian King, Bob Springmeyer, and Lynn Hemmingway were on hand to speak to voters, get their input and celebrate with the crowd. Grae Wallace from Canyon Coffee did a great job keeping everyone caffinated.

Suzanne Gelderman addressed the crowd. Duchess and Patrick worked the Obama booth and spoke to everyone. If you forgot to take home the candidate sign you wanted go to slcountydems.org for more information on getting lawn signs of local candidates. It is vital that we keep up the pressure and show our support not only for Obama but for local people on the ground who will contribute as a whole to the Obama Presidency.

John and his wife had those great Jute bags for sale with the logo on them. If you missed getting one you can catch him at the Farmers Market downtown every Saturday. We signed a banner to hang in headquarters. If you haven't made it to headquarters yet is is on 780 East, South Temple. Stop by to volunteer this Saturday or stop by sometime just to say hello. Hopefully we will get some t-shirts and bumper stickers.

If you would like to see photos of last night go to this link.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28691399@N06/

It was an emotional evening as we spread out on blankets in front of the glowing Wasatch Mountains under the setting sun. It was the next best thing to being in Denver because sharing this occasion with a cheering crowd is no comparison to sitting in one's own livingroom. We clapped, we screamed, we booed, and we gave standing ovations. Wouldn't we have felt funny doing that in front of the sofa alone at home?

Now is the time to get started on local campaigns. There will be many volunteer opportunities. Look in Events for them and register saying you will volunteer. The Neighbor to Neighbor program can be found when you go to your dashboard. We need a lot of people in Utah to help out. Volunteer early and you may be a local coordinator.

Thanks for sharing in the excitement. I hope to see you elsewhere in the community. Say hello and let's have a great election!

I was surprised to see this banner in support of Barack Obama in an industrial section of Salt Lake City.

Fund Raising Help Please!!! Goal: $30,000

Hi,

I am organizing a fund raiser for Obama in Salt Lake City. I already have an auditorium reserved for May 2nd and my thinking was to have some big name speakers to draw people in to buy tickets for and also to collect extra contributions.

I have done fund raising in the past but never for a politician. I've already into a question I can't answer to find out how much they're going to charge me for the auditorium and that is if we are for profit or non-profit. I would think a presidential campaign would be non-profit but then she needs some identifying number.

I have contacted several people I know in Obama's campaign and have not heard back from anyone. I also have filed the necessary form for an appearance request for Obama but I understand that takes a while to hear back on.

Anyway, I'm really needing some advice from people experienced with this - and volunteers for the committee too!

Thank you.

Kindest Regards,

Tresa

888-215-4702

3/19/07 Iraq war events: materials you can distribute

If anyone is planning on attending either of the events on Monday 3/19, call me and I can get you some copies of an excellent Obama flier (on his work getting us out of Iraq) that you can distribute. I will be there from 11am to 11:30 for the initial gathering, but then I have to leave, and it would be great if someone were willing to hand out fliers at the march/rally proper. I downloaded the flier from one of the larger groups and it looks great. Call me tomorrow morning (3/19/07, Monday) if you can help. Event details and phone # in extended text.

Getting Started

I would like to get some local events started. It seems that perhaps one of the best things we can do is to get the message out, let other Utahn's know about Obama. So, let's start out by meeting, perhaps every other week, until a more comfortable schedule works itself out. For the topic of meeting, perhaps we should strengthen our understanding of Obama's stance on things, so that we can talk intelligently with our friends and neighbors, when they ask "How does Obama stand on the issue of 'X'?"
