"Come Together: A Night for John Lennon's Words and Music"

This movie found it's way to me and I haven't even watched but the first 15 minutes of it and it hit me that this would be something that all American's might want to see right now. It's a tribute to the people of New York City and how they "Came Together" after the 9/11 events, using John Lennon's words and music. I can tell it is very uplifting and emotional. It was broadcast live on October 2, 2002. I don't know where I was then but I was asleep and too wrapped up in my own little life garbage problems to know it was happening. I'm wide awake now and I believe, as a nation, we could use a LOT of uplifting RIGHT NOW. It would be a huge reminder of what the people of our great nation did as they came together after 9/11 and we can do it again. Today, it seems that our nation is falling apart and we all need this reminder. I highly recommend to every American that they watch this video as soon as possible. Give it a shot, you might be happily surprised.

Pray for health care as a fundamental Human right

I originally posted this as an email to the Prayer Team, but I felt led to post it in blog form as well, so that it could be linked to and more people can pray.

I strongly believe that health care is a fundamental Human right for *all* people. Yet in our great nation, health care is a multi-billion dollar industry that seeks wealth at the expense of those who are suffering. From prescription drug companies that push the latest and greatest chemical substances that help us get rid of one symptom only to cause three more to the doctors who charge astronomical fees for basic services while all the time they collect money from the drug companies to the insurance companies who force people to make a choice between quality health coverage and their next meal, more and more people get rich from more and more people's suffering every day.

The Bible tells us that Jesus healed whoever he could, and it says nothing about anyone's ability to pay for His services. Not to mention the fact that all healing miracles performed by Jesus were complete, with no half-healings if someone didn't pay enough, or even have enough faith. And once a person was healed, the healing never caused more and more symptoms from ailments caused by the healing to keep a person coming back for more.

Let us pray for complete health care reform in this great nation in which we live. Let us pray that health becomes recognized as the basic and fundamentalHuman right that it is, rather than a political football to be passed back and forth or a tool to be used to make some people rich at the expense of others. Let us pray for complete and total health coverage for all, regardless of a person's ability to pay for treatment. Let us pray for health care providers that do their jobs to the best of their ability in order to maintain good health for all people rather than for money. In short, let us pray for a Christ-like health care system.

Lord God, we come to you now in prayer for our nation. We come to you because we know our nation needs an entirely new vision of health care. We ask that you give our leaders the wisdom to reform our health care system, and to rebuild it from the ground up if necessary to make it as Christ-like as it can be. We know from your Word that your Son Jesus never turned anyone away because of their inability to pay, nor did He even ask for payment in exchange for healing, nor did He give partial healing if someone couldn't pay enough, nor did He give partial healing in order to force people to come back for the rest. In fact, we believe that the idea of making someone rich in order to gain partial healing is repulsive to you. Lord God, show us the right path. Make our leaders understand how a Christ-like health care system should be, and that anything else is offensive to you. Provide for our nation the wisdom, the understanding and the resources to make a truly Christ-like health care system a reality. Silence the loud voices of those who oppose any positive step because they want things to stay the same. Open their eyes that they may see that only your way is right and just. All these things we pray in the name of your Son Jesus Christ, who gave His own life to save us all from ourselves. Amen.

Prayer for our Leaders in America

I thank God that He is watching over our contry the USA.

God has given us this land, the land of the free.

Jesus came to set the captives free.

I thank God that the Spirit of Liberty and Freedom works in America today.

I pray that our leader will live a godly righteous life.

That the Lord will protect and watch over them.

The National Day Of Prayer

The first Thursday in May was set aside since 1952 by Congress for the National Day Of Prayer. It was over the last 2 terms that President George Bush started making a greater Public show of it by having specially selected Christian and Jewish leaders to the East Room of the White House where he would give a short speech preceding prayers from chosen leaders.

The truth is, these prayers were for the people and not to the Lord. The same prayers for the country lead them into the war in Iraq. For the same reason we dress modestly, especially in church is the same reason we shouldn’t knowingly have cameras inspecting and reporting on us during the baring of our souls to the Lord. Actually, it’s even deeper than that!

The National Day Of Prayer

There is great sanctity in prayer

How we do it and where

Ecumenical services are more for men

National Committees choosing when

Assembly is appropriate for public display

To give an elusion they communally pray

I believe when we pray we must bare our soul

Open our heart to God and give Him the control

No interruption or distraction we should deliberately make

And so cameras and mics can make prayer fake

Lots of my friends differ with me

Don’t see the harm in praying publicly

And with the technology to spread prayer far and wide

You’re being sanctimonious if in prayer you hide

Once I bare my soul, the greatest essence of me

Focus on my Lord to pray earnestly

People should understand the emotions I feel

Reverence beyond description as I bend and kneel

And understand I would sooner walk naked through the street

Yes naked, before I pray with cameras set at my feet

Ecumenical services for the people but don’t mock the Lord

Prayer Request for April 30, 2009

Goodmorning, as you know, we are aligning our focus and prayers toward the unemployment crisis that is affecting hundreds of thousands of additional americans each month. Since January 2007, nearly three million jobs have already been lost in our country.

One of the leading drivers in the Campaign for Change were empowered by the need of the american people to acquire work for themselves. It helped to catapult, that and a dismal economy, President Obama to the Oval Office in a historical landslide win.

Our prayer team looks toward the act of praying and strengthening our faith that the men and women who are seeking employment will most certainly find it. God is not responsible for millions of people losing their jobs. He is faithful and just; He will sustain you and your family until new employment is obtained. He will honor His word and not leave forsaken. He will give you peace in your mind to remove the stressful pressure points from your mind.

These are those things we ought to pray for. We typically seek the black and white theory; blessings or curses, good or bad, up or down. Not so with God friends. Today we pray that God will make your way simple, without stress, painless. We pray that He provides you with what some in the south call "staying power"; endurance.

In this race, you win in the end! However, the race is not "given" to those who run the fastest or the furthest, nor is it "given" to those who possess the greatest strength, but instead to them who simply endure. We pray today that you find your pace and run your race! This prayer team will join with you and stand with you along the way.

The politics of our country, well, they come and they go, they are good and then they are bad, but your faith in God and the power of prayer should never lose its intensity.

Our Condolences this morning!

We offer our prayers and condolences to a Texas family of the first U.S. associated dealth with Swine Flu or H1N1 virus. The small child, told to have recently visited Mexico was only 23months old.

As told, Texas is now known to have 6 of the known 64 U.S. confirmed cases of the Swine Flu to the moment. Our prayers go out to this family this morning as well as to all those still experiencing difficulties with the virus.

Below, I have attached some FAQ's from CNN to help us better understand some of the concerns associated with the virus and some of the things we should be doing as a community as we further engage into the flu remedies.

Throughout your day, please keep this family and all others lifted up before God in humble prayer.

How are symptoms different from a common flu?Posted: 06:00 AM ET

This morning, CNN answers questions from viewers who are concerned about symptoms and their travel history. As we learn more about the swine flu, we are using CNN’s newsgathering resources to help answer some of our viewers’ most frequently asked questions.

Q: How can you tell whether you have a common flu or swine flu?

CNN: The symptoms of the current swine flu and seasonal flu are very similar. Reports suggest that this flu virus may result in nausea, vomiting and diarrhea more often than the typical flu. CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta says doctors in Mexico have reported seeing sudden dizziness as well. There’s no way to tell for sure without getting tested. If you’re feverish or have other flu-like symptoms such as a cough or a sore throat, you should see a doctor.

One positive aspect is that the swine flu cases appeared near the end of influenza season, Dr. Richard Besser, the acting CDC director told a news conference Tuesday. Had the outbreak occurred in January or February, public health officials would have had greater difficulty because of the number of people infected with the common flu.

Q: My family returned from Mexico this week. We aren’t sick, but aren’t sure if we should stay away from other people. Can we spread the virus even if we feel ok?

CNN: In general, people who are not sick probably do not put other people at risk, said Dr. Arthur Reingold, head of epidemiology in the School of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley. There is no recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or the World Health Organization that they should be quarantined.

Q: Will the current economic situation make the swine flu outbreak worse because of unemployment or uninsured Americans who may delay going to the doctor because of their current financial situation?

CNN: If more people go untreated because they lack insurance or the money to pay to see a doctor, it would likely cause those people to become sicker than they would have been otherwise. Lack of care would not affect the spread of the disease if those people remained isolated and avoided close contact with others, as the CDC has recommended.

Q: How long can the virus survive on objects? If someone sneezes and touches a grocery cart how will that cart carry the virus?

CNN: The virus survives on surfaces certainly for a number of hours. Even though the virus can survive on surfaces, the likelihood of it being transmitted from one person to another via a phone or surface is slim. It needs to get down into your lungs to make you sick, said Dr. Arthur Reingold, head of epidemiology in the School of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley. “I personally would not have a major fear of environmental contamination,” he said. “Virtually all influenza is transmitted from sneezing and coughing.”

Obama Administration to Boycott UN's "Racism" Conference

The Obama administration quietly announced this weekend that it would boycott an international conference about racism and discrimination because of concerns that the conference unfairly singles out Israel for criticism and because the conference may set the stage for restrictions on free speech.

The United Nations conference is set to begin tomorrow in Geneva, Switzerland.

Protesting what their leaders see as anti-Semitic and anti-Israel overtones to the conference, Australia, Canada, Israel, Italy and Sweden are also not sending delegations.

Acting U.S. State Department spokesman Robert Wood Saturday issued a statement saying that the 2009 Durban Review Conference draft outcome document "still contains language that reaffirms in toto the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action (DDPA) from 2001, which the United States has long said it is unable to support" because it "singles out one particular conflict and prejudges key issues that can only be resolved in negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians."

"Its inclusion in the review conference document has the same effect as inserting that original text into the current document and re-adopting it," Wood said. In addition, he added that the United States "also has serious concerns with relatively new additions to the text regarding 'incitement,' that run counter to the U.S. commitment to unfettered free speech." Earlier drafts of the document expressed disapproval of any "defamation of religion."

Wood said: "Therefore, with regret, the United States will not join the review conference."

Human rights organizations expressed disappointment at the decision.

“From the outset we have shared Washington’s deep concern about the efforts by some governments to use the racism meeting to single out Israel for criticism and to promote the idea that religions should be protected over rights, ” said Juliette de Rivero, Geneva advocacy director at Human Rights Watch. “But governments have now excised troubling language about the Middle East and ‘defamation of religion’ from the meeting’s draft resolution.”

Congressional Black Caucus chair Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Calif., said the CBC was "deeply dismayed" by the President's decision.

``This decision is inconsistent with the administration's policy of engaging with those we agree with and those we disagree with,'' she said. "By boycotting Durban, the U.S. is making it more difficult for it to play a leadership role on U.N. Human Rights Council as it states it plans to do. This is a missed opportunity, plain and simple.''

The announcement was not unexpected.

In February, Wood said that "the document being negotiated has gone from bad to worse, and the current text of the draft outcome document is not salvageable." United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice told Politico's Ben Smith that the document was "rife with anti-Israeli and other problematic substance" and "not a credible basis for a responsible outcome." The Obama administration had worked with the Russian leaders chair the conference, as well as senior United Nations officials, on making changes to the document.

Ultimately some changes were made -- and specific mentions of Israel were removed -- but not enough to satisfy American policymakers.

The draft outcome document specifically "(r)eaffirms the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action (DDPA), as it was adopted at the World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance in 2001."

Much of the debate at the 2001 conference focused on whether or not Zionism was inherently racism, prompting the US and Israeli delegations to withdraw from the conference. An early draft called Israel "a racist apartheid state" and referred to Israel's "systematic perpetration of racist crimes, including war crimes, acts of genocide and ethnic cleansing."

The final language in the DDPA 2001 document, was much tamer, though no other country or struggle except for the Israel-Palestinian conflict was singled out for criticism.

"We are concerned about the plight of the Palestinian people under foreign occupation," it stated. "We recognize the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and to the establishment of an independent State and we recognize the right to security for all States in the region, including Israel, and call upon all States to support the peace process and bring it to an early conclusion."

Calling the conference "a celebration of racism and vile anti-Semitic activity" and "further evidence of the U.N.'s inability to demonstrate any semblance of fairness or objectivity on these issues when it comes to the Jewish State," the American Israel Public Affairs Committee issued a statement applauding President Obama's decision as "the right thing to do and underscores America's unstinting commitment to combating intolerance and racism in all its forms and in all settings."

How our President is doing

I thank God every day for President Obama. My faith community often makes reference to praying for our leaders so that God may continue to anoint them and bless them with added wisdom to lead, but I find myself praying for President Obama a great deal, not only because I like him but also because he means so well for our country. His decisions and whole being project that. When I talk to people and tell them how much I find myself praying for him, I usually find out that many others are also praying for him. I do not know the president personally as we have never met one-on-on, but the times I have heard him speak confirm for me that he is quite couragious and full of wisdom. He is leading our country during a time of crisis for many of us, and I could not have more confidence in anyone else to lead us during this tough economic time. I appreciate the wisdom that he has been using so far to address our economic concerns. Let's continue to pray for our president who has to make very tough decisions and is often met with fierced apposition. Let's pray, too, for Congress so that all may support our president to lead this great nation. May God bless our President Barack Obama and may God bless the USA.

God Answers Prayer

"It will be a sign and a witness to the Lord Almighty in the land of Egypt. When the people cry to the Lord for help against those who oppress them, he will send them a savior who will rescue them" (Isaiah 19:20, NLT).

Can you be the answer to somebody's prayer today?

God knows who our enemies are. God has a way of taking the powerful and humbling them. Every enemy of God shall bow down and their wisdom be turned to foolishness. When our enemies can no longer stand under the mighty hand of God, they too will cry out to God for help. According to his will, God can align every enemy of America and make them one allegiance with America.

Philippians 2:10, 11 says, "so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” In order for America to realize the true blessedness of our relationship with God, we must keep God first and walk in obedience to the commandments of God--which are to love God with all our might and our neighbor as our self (Matthew 22:37-40).

It is virtually impossible to cause harm to others if we keep these two great commandments. Love God. Love others. God answers prayer in response to our heartfelt needs because God loves us. If we love others, then we will do all that is within our power to help meet their needs. Love is not how we feel but what we do. The mandate to love is further extended to our enemies (Matthew 5:43-48). If we only love those who love us, then we have not done anything great. America, God is not asking us to make alliance with our enemies, only to love them. As we continue to trust Jesus Christ as our Savior, show forth the love of God, and walk in obedience to the will of God individually and collectively as a nation, then God will answer prayers on our behalf by establishing the international alliances we need. The building of alliances is a spiritual work that will manifest itself physically at the appointed time.

Whether God answers our prayers directly or through others, it remains that God does answer prayer.

Prayer: Lord God, my ever present help in trouble, please help me to trust you to create the alliances I need in my life. Help me to keep faith in Jesus Christ as my Savior while I await the answers to my prayers. Amen.

What in the world is God doing?

What a time to live in? Many things are changing around us and it seems as if we are spending out of control. The definition of the word control means; manage, be in charge of and have power over. For so long we have been running our lives in a way that we are the captains of our own ship—maybe you are. Now that the sail is turning and the tides are shifting, we must look up in a different direction as we harness the winds of change and continue to pray and ask for God’s guidance in helping our President and his staff.

We must never lose focus in what is happening in our world today, if we want to see a brighter tomorrow for the next generation. Prayer is the oxygen in the wind we breathe that will cause us to move with the winds of change as we bow our knees in humility and pray for our government leaders all over the world. If we learn to celebrate differences without judgments, we can become who God has always intended for us to be; leaders of the free world, because united we stand and divided we fall.

Continue to lift up the hands of our President, President Barack Obama, his family and the new cabinet as they do God’s willed on our behalf. Blessings, Dorcas

Prayer for the Nation

O God of Hosts, Creator of heaven and earth,

Mother of the universe,[i]

Blessed be your glorious name

That is exalted above all blessing and praise.

You are the Lord, you alone.

You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens,

With all its starry hosts,

The earth and all that is in it,

The seas and all that is in them.

To all of them you give life.

The host of heaven worships you.[ii]

O great and awesome God,

Who keeps covenant and steadfast love

With those who love you

And keep your commandments.

We have not always done what we know is right;

We have often times been rebellious.

We have often times turned from your ways

And followed the ways of our own hearts.

We often times do not listen to

Your messengers who speak in your name,

Who pray on our behalf,

Who are often grieved because of our sins.[iii]

Righteousness is on your side,

O Lord, but this day

Open shame falls on us,

The people of America,

And the inhabitants of lands far and near.

[i] I believe God to be the God of everything and every people. I also realize that no metaphor can adequately capture the full essence of God’s being. To this end, I address the deity as God, Creator, and Mother in an effort to touch a diverse group of people. See Fowler, “Postmodern Theologies and the Praxis of God,” (Draft-September, 1993). Fowler’s lecture on “The Praxis of God” on September 21, 1993 that drew from this essay greatly affirmed my belief that the old images of God are becoming obsolete, especially the patristic images.

[ii] Nehemiah 9:5b-6 paraphrased. (All paraphrases are a combination of the King James and the New Revised Standard Version. I have paraphrased in several instances.) This is the beginning of a prayer of confession; it continues through verse 37. The prayer is preceded by praises to God. I think it is appropriate to open any and all communications to God with praise, realizing that God is a universal God—a

cosmic God who is responsible for everything that is. In terms expressed by Sallie McFague, The Body of God (Minneapolis: Fortress Press, 1993), you might say that the universe is “the body of God,” which is intended as a “holistic metaphysic.” McFague uses “the organic model as a way of re-conceiving the relation of God and the world” (p. 81). She contends that the recognition and appreciation of the interrelatedness of everything in the world should help people act more responsibly. This motif will come up again later on in this prayer.

[iii] Daniel 9:4-6. Here Daniel is confessing the greatness of God and acknowledging the rebelliousness of the people in spite of warnings from the prophets. Even though people may recognize and acknowledge God for who God is, that does not mean that they are prepared to keep covenant with God and follow God’s commandments. See Fowler’s Weaving the New Creation (New York: HarperCollins Publishers, 1991), page 102 for a definition of “covenant.” The covenant of love is between two parties, God and the people who love and obey God.

[iv] Based on Daniel 9:7-8. The moral condition of the people caused them to feel great shame in this passage. I wonder today if we feel great shame because of our immorality. In one of my first seminary group teaching session, we talked about being in solidarity with the poor. Could it be that we too feel great shame because as a society we have systematically neglected the poor and marginalized of the world?

[v] Daniel 9:9-11. In spite of our rebellion, I know God will continue to be merciful and forgiving if we confess our sins.

[vi] Nehemiah 9:27-28. The pattern of faithfulness and falling away is repeated often throughout the history of Israel. The same is true of people of God today. Have we not learned lessons from history? How long do we continue this game of Russian roulette with our salvation? How long will God be patient with a rebellious and unfaithful people? See Weaving the New Creation (Fowler, 1991, p. 136).

[vii] Daniel 9:14. I am careful to uphold the righteousness of God over and against the righteousness of humans. God’s righteousness is steadfast and holistic, whereas people tend to do right sometimes and only in some situations.

[viii] Amos 5:24, Micah 6:8. To do what is good and to hate evil seems like a simple task, but what is good and what is evil? In today’s pluralistic world people are seeking to know the ways of God. In his book, Uncommon Decency, Richard Mouw offers a way—civility—to begin dialogue that makes it possible for people of diverse backgrounds to ponder questions such as these.

[ix] Isaiah 58:6-7. In a discussion on liberation theology, I asked myself the question, “Who are the poor?” “Who are the marginalized?” The “oppressed” in this passage includes the children, the elders, the homosexuals, the bisexuals, women, African Americans, Native Americans, Latin Americans, and any other marginalized group—and lest we forget, the earth and all of its creatures. The intent here is to highlight social issues that people of God should continuously attend to, as opposed to being content with superficial forms of worship within the congregation.

[x] John 15:12. The greatest commandments were that we love God and each other. I am sure that omitting either of the two causes God great displeasure. In fact, God’s covenant with us is based on love. God loves us because God made us.

[xi] McFague, 1993 (Chapter 3). I see humans not so much as God’s body, but the fact that we were made in the image of God and are loved by God should be reason enough to respect all of God’s creation. Creation exists in an interdependent relationship. God designed it that way and the least humans can do is be responsible about how we treat the earth and her creatures.

[xii] Nehemiah 9:33. In every situation, God keeps the steadfast covenant of love. Regardless of the way we live in America, God keeps right on blessing us. Perhaps, our greatest blessings are yet to be realized. If in our sinfulness we still prosper, what would happen if we were to “do good, hate evil, and live humbly” with our neighbors? My intent in this poetic work is to convey God’s faithfulness in answering prayer. Prayer is critical to the faith of a people. During my seminary studies, I especially looked forward to times of “centering” prayer. In reference to the latter part of this section, no theology would be complete without a holistic image of God. I believe we should lift up every issue that is common to humankind when we pray - personal and communal concerns.

[xiii] This is a petition for God to hear the cry of a broken society. Not that God cannot see and hear all at all times, but I understand that it is in our asking that God answers for God knows what we need even before we ask. Various lessons from my seminary training at Emory helped me to understand more and more about ways to pray. "The particular faith that motivates each of us can promote a greater good for all of us," President Obama said this morning to a crowd of several thousand people gathered for the National Prayer Breakfast at the Washington Hilton in the nation's capital. "Instead of driving us apart, our varied beliefs can bring us together to feed the hungry and comfort the afflicted; to make peace where there is strife and rebuild what has broken; to lift up those who have fallen on hard times."

A dozen foreign leaders attended, including former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who delivered the keynote address.

Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (R-MO) and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) read from Scripture, Rep. Ike Skelton (D-MO) delivered a prayer for national leaders, Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO) delivered a prayer for world leaders, and Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) delivered the closing prayer. Casting Crowns, a Christian rock group, performed at the event.

The National Prayer Breakfast, currently co-chaired by Reps. Vern Ehlers (R-MI) and Heath Shuler (D-NC), is a yearly event held in Washington, D.C., on the first Thursday of February each year. The event has taken place since 1953 and every U.S. president since Dwight D. Eisenhower has participated in the breakfast.

The President is set to sign an executive order regarding the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, which we'll have more on later today.

What Can I Do?

I received the e-mail about Martin Luther King, Jr. day, and how we are all being encouraged to do something for our communities on that day. A day of service is a wonderful idea, and I'd like to be involved in doing something, but I have to work. Many of us have full-time jobs, and we don't dare skip work, even for a worthy cause like this. Keeping our jobs is important, too, especially in this economy. Still, there are things we can do.

This is my plan for that day. I'm going to make an online donation to one of my favorite charity organizations, a local branch. And, I'm going to light a candle in the morning before I leave for work, and pray for our nation, and for our new President.

'experience' you make up for with supernatural wisdom and power. We

will be done through him.

    We pray mightily for his protection. As we plead the Blood of

I began including Barack Obama in my creative life after his first debate with Senator Clinton. I wanted him to take back his power. Thus I created a "Take back your Power" song and video for him, his wife Michelle, and everyone else; A musical guide for people to take back their powers together. After MOVE ON called for a 26 second Obama Ad, I reworked it for that.

My family is going to pray for Obama every day. Each day we will be expressing our gratitude for having Obama as our President.

Here are some ideas about how to ensure America's well-being under President Obama:

Send your love to President Obama. Even if you didn't vote for Obama, it is in your best interest to support his efforts to revitalize America.

Visualize and imagine the wonderful future America and the world will enjoy under President Obama.

Speak, act, and think from the mindset of a citizen who knows that positive change has arrived. Eliminate thoughts and words of lack such as "I can't", "It won't work". Remember Obama's message: "I'M ASKING YOU TO BELIEVE. Not just in my ability to bring about real change in Washington...I'm asking you to believe in yours." Believe it!

Do not, for a single second, speak or think of failure to achieve our vision and President Obama's vision. We know some right wing crazies want Obama to fail, but the power of love and hope and righteousness always wins. Fortify our position with the love in your heart.

Be grateful for the country we have. Appreciate it and help make it better.

Make lists of all the things you will do as we begin to reap the benefits of the programs Obama implements, including investments in clean energy and programs to save the economy.

Do whatever it takes for you to feel happy about the country under President Obama.

Affirm to yourself every day that there is reason to expect the best under President Obama.

Appreciate all the opportunities around you, including the programs President Obama will implement that benefit others. Look for good wherever you go, and appreciate everything President Obama is doing, even if it benefits someone other than you. Appreciate it all.

Love yourself and know that we all deserve a leader who reflects the best aspects of us, as Obama does.

Remind yourself everyday that your future is brigher than ever, and remind yourself that President Obama can lead us where we want to go.

Do whatever it takes to feel good about the future of our country. The emotions of joy and happiness are powerful. Be happy now!

Hello there,

This will be short since the last few have been so long (SMILE).

I just had something that I wanted to ask you all to join me in doing, if
you don't mind. I wanted to ask you to pray for our country.

No matter what you think of President Elect Obama (if you're like me who is a
supporter or if you're not) one thing I hope we can all agree upon is that we
should cover him in prayer. He will be our leader and just as I have prayed for
George Bush, I also know that it is important to pray for President Elect Obama
as well.

Even at the much smaller level that I'm on, I know first hand the
challenges that come along with being the first. I know how hard it is torun a
company of 300 employees. So I can't even pretend to imagine what it must be
like to govern a country. I'm sure he and his family must have endured and are
still going through some really tough challenges. But if we pray for them, they
will continue to endure.

So, today I have a simple request, and that is that we pray for our next
President, his family, his wife and beautiful children. Pray for his
protection and peace of mind. Pray for his strength to lead. Pray for his
policies and his covering. Finally, pray for our great nation as he walks
in what is no doubt his divine destiny.

I know a lot of you are very passionate about this, but I hope that we could lay
aside our differences long enough to realize that we are all one country. We
have got to come together for one common goal and that is to unite these United
States so that we can reclaim our good standing in the world and be strong here
at home once again.

On this historic day, at this defining moment, on Day 1 of our victory, through God, where "this nation, under God...[celebrates] freedom -- and [demonstrates] that government of the people, by the people, for the people, [has] not perished from the earth" (Abraham Lincoln), let us; "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, Rejoice!" (Philippians 4:4)

I pray that we all continue on in harmony with each other (PEACE and LOVE) for the well being of America and the rest of the world.

I pray for all the people who worked diligently throughout the campaign, all those who gave of their time, energy, and resources, totally believing in a better America.

I pray especially for the candidates:Senator Barack Obama and his family,Senator Joe Biden and his family,Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin and their families.

As we move on let us put away differences of opinions and truly get on with the real task/business of taking care of this beautiful country.

This is a message sent to me from WonderlandPR and I thought you might like to see it:

Barack Obama, beyond the rare repertoire of roaring rhetoric and retort, beyond the sweeping scope of policy and polemics, there is a man, who, once upon a time was a boy, raised by Toot and her husband, Barack's maternal grandparents.

Now, Toot, Mrs. Dunham, is in need of the man we all have entrusted to guide our American family into its precarious future, as she lies in precarious health.

From his departure from the critical campaign, we who have worked for and with Barack for all these months, know that very little can stop Barack.

Do you remember him being sick and off the trail? No. Do you remember the times he had to leave the campaign to tend to a daughters' crisis? No. Did you ever see him explode in anger or breakdown in frustration? No.

Now this.

So we know that Barack's humanity, his very humannessm is being called by the call to return to Hawaii and Toot.

I must admit I have prayed for an intervention to give Barack some respite from the slings and arrows of the last weeks of the nasty campaign by McCain en company, but I did not pray for this.

God works in mysterious ways. Perhaps this is an answered prayer.

I hope you might join me in wishing Barack Godspeed to Toot's side and that he is restored in his pending sorrow by the loving supporters that so many of us have become.

We ARE all in this together. Never have those words been more true.

Please let's make an effort to fill the crater of space that Barack leaves as he leaves to be with Toot before they must leave each other for all times.

So I wrote this protection visualization for Obama. Say it out loud or to yourself, at your desk, in your car, on your couch, at your dinner table--wherever! Even after the elections, I'm feeling that we need to send protection and energy to Obama, to assist him with the wonderful work that he is doing. I support Mr. Obama in this year's presidential election, though it wasn't always so. Consequently I come to this discourse after careful consideration.

As we approach the last debate, I IMPLORE him / his advisers:

Put more substance to his comments.
At the same time, he would do well to RELAX, laugh, make an appropriate joke, and continue to validate the good that is occurring in our world right now.
Eliminate reaching back into the past -- been there, thoroughly done that! We KNOW how you voted for the war in Iraq. Now - acknowledge the positive changes (but explain them in light of global and reform; speak to "the surge" and why the positive outcomes were inevitable). This goes for other issues where you continue to beat the drum of the past even when it isn't directly related.
Continue to 'check' McCain on half-truths by looking him in the eye and proferring your comment with respect.
PROVIDE DETAILS -- the little history lesson in Debate 2 was exceptional. TELL us that events are evolving so fast that no ONE solution stated today can be a guarantee for the changes and challenges ahead facing our nation economically, socially, and environmentally. But here is what you propose based on the circumstances of today....And here is how you will make room for flexible solutions as circumstances shift.

If those of us who support you can cringe when you evade answers (like the last "Zen" query of Debate 2) then the door will continue to stand ajar for opponents.

Lastly, for now: refer to the incident at the praying wall when your prayer was breached and broadcast to the world. REPEAT IT. Tell us that any decent leader has to be humble in asking for divine guidance. Say that you don't have all the answers - right now. But that you have a dedicated, top notch team and a supportive and vigilant electorate who will come together to craft the solutions that reflect American values, ideals, perseverance and courage. That you are MORE THAN ready, willing, and able to lead Americans as we all face the challenges and ultimate victories ahead.

The economy

Stopping the Republican's hijacking of Christianity — Mon, 29 Sep 2008 22:29:17 EDT

So I'm quite scared. With the economy on the verge of a collapse and since I am a student in college that relies on financial aid and student loans, I'm worried. I am of the mind that tomorrow I stock my kitchen in case food prices go up so high I can't afford to feed myself and my kids. I'm worried my job which is a huge healthcare company, won't be able to pay me. I'm worried that once again the Republicans have dropped the ball over "hurt feelings". Will they help me and my children eat? They don't like helping anyone! I think anyone who voted against this bill, and if it causes complete financial chaos, Republican or Democrat need to count their House seats goodbye! Anyone who would vote for these people is an idiot! The world markets are bombing along with ours. How can these idiots even celebrate a holiday, which I believe in religious rights, but even I would do things I would need to do to handle my business! I'm on a host of medications because I have serious medical issues and if I can't afford them, which I can barely do with the insurance i have, I will be quite upset! It hurts my heart so to see that our great country has come to this disgustingness. And to see John McCain politicize this issue so much just disgusts me. Is he going to let my family move into one of his seven houses? Is he going to help feed us all? My loathing for him grows daily. Thank Jesus I have faith. Thank Jesus I, even in this sense of panic, know He will not let us go through more than we can handle. Maybe this is what it took to open all of our eyes to the terrible craziness the Republicans have put us through. I just pray to Jesus that He gives us all the strength and wisdom to get through any further challenges we may face, together and united.

Bigoted Religionists Redefine Love for Agenda

What is love? Love is the foundation of the Christian Gospel. Without Love, God would not have cared if His creation had no way to heaven, and thus would have had no reason to provide a way though Christ. According to Webster's, Love is:

To regard with a strong feeling of affection; to have a devoted attachment to; to feel great tenderness for; as, to love one's family. 2. To regard with the feelings of one sex towards the other; to be tenderly affected toward; to be in love with; to be passionately fond of. 3. To delight in; to have great pleasure or interest in...(Webster's pg 1007)

What does the Bible say about love? There are many passages about love, and they reflect closely to how Webster's defines love.

Is love based on precondition?

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. (Romans 5:8-10)

We love him, because he first loved us. If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also. (1 John 4:19-21)

Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? (Matthew 5:43-47)

It is because of verses like these that Dr. Cone must go through great efforts to redefine Love, and thus redefine Christian love. He rightly asserts that a "new way of doing theology" is needed, because without it "there will always be this barrier between Black Power and Christian love(Cone, 50). Thus he seeks to reinterpret "the message of salvation(49)" so that it will be palatable to those within the Black Power movement, whom Cone has no desire to make Christians out of, nor to "twist their language or to make an alien interpretation of it.(Cone 48)." While he has no problem preserving and accurately interpreting the words of man, he apparently sees no problem with forcing an interpretation on the scriptures that, as he willingly admits is alien to the life of Christ, and thus to the Biblical interpretation of love.

Cone goes through the two parts of the Great Commandment:

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. (Matthew 22:37-40)

He rightly says that when God's love has gripped a someone that they should behave as if Christ is at the core of his being (Cone, 51). However, just a page later, he says that, "because God is a God of power; of majesty, of might, to love man means that he wills that the black man "reflect in the immediacies of life his power, his majesty and his might (Cone, 52)." He also erroneously says that "to respond to God's love in faith means that he accepts as truth the new image of himself revealed in Jesus Christ (Cone, 52). The Bible teaches that our response to God's love is to believe on Him:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (John 3:16-18)

That the man becomes a new Creature, and does not merely emulate an image of such is a Bible truth:

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

We do not see an image in Christ, by accepting Christ in faith, we become a new creature, God's spirit indwells us and empowers us to do his will, to show his love and deliver his message to a world in need. As far as power we as individuals are called to:

Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues; And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.(Matthew 10:16-18)

It is not for us to attempt to emulate God's power and might. Throughout the Bible, God does occasionally use people to show his power, as was the case with Moses and the plagues. However, the showing of power was related specifically to giving glory and honor to God, as Pharaoh was scoffing and rejecting God's revealed will. It was not an act channeled through the unbelieving, or the worshippers of false gods. Since Dr Cone has "no desire to make Christians out of those who see no relationship between their understanding of truth and Jesus Christ (Cone, 48), he asserts that God's power, majesty and might can be demonstrated though sinful unrepentant man by accepting a new image "revealed in Christ." Many religions have images of Christ,

Cone asserts that the black man take Paul's teaching of being a "new creature" literally by telling him to "glorify blackness" as an acceptance of the black self as a creature of God. (Cone, 53)." It is absolutely clear that Dr. Cone misses the concept of the "new creature" The new creature is a direct product of the new birth, which Jesus described in his discussion with Nicodemus:

There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

(John 3:1-7)

The new creature is spiritual in nature. Man was born once as flesh and blood. The birth of the "new creature" is a spiritual event, an event open to "whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord." It has nothing to do with the glorifying or uplifting of the physical self.

By combining these unbiblical distortions of the new creature and God's love, Cone has set the stage for his radical redefining of the word Love.

Dr. Cone says that "to love the white man means that the black man confronts him." He goes on to assert that whites see blacks as "its" and the black man must confront them as a "Thou" The emphasis is not on the person hood, but on the confrontation as the manifestation of love between the "races."

Cone further asserts that,

The black man must, if he is not to lose sight of his new-found identity in Christ, be prepared for conflict, for a radical confrontation. As one black man put it: "Profound love can only exist between two equals. The new black man refuses to assume the It-role which whites expect, but addresses them as an equal. This I where the conflict arises(Cone, 53).

There is no grounds for a "radical confrontation" for one not to lose sight of his identify in Christ. In fact, the one time where it was attempted, Jesus himself rebuked Simon Peter:

Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus. Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it? (John 18:10-11).

Also, consider the actions of Stephen who's preaching of righteousness resulted in severe injustice:

Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye. Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which showed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers: Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it. When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth. But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God. Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord, And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul. And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.(Acts 7:51-60)

Probably one of the most damnable heresies which Cone proclaims is the assertion that "profound love" can only exist between equals. With how much the Bible talks about God's love for man, this sets up two situations, each equally heretical. Either God does not truly love man, and the Bible lies regarding this, or man is equal with God, in which case man has no need of God, or his salvation. So the question arises, are we gods, or is God a liar? Man's fall in Genesis was at the beckoning of the serpent to "become as gods." Cone here introduces that man is equal with God again offering up the same temptation, the quick and fleshly way of a bloody confrontation to lift up the self, the flesh.

It is this heresy that allows him to encourage the carnal demonstration of "God's power" by ungodly men. He continues by saying that the "christian" love of whites makes the black man a nonperson. Cone goes on to say:

The black man's response to God's act in Christ must be different from the white's because his life experiences are different. Christian love is never fully embodied in an act(Cone, 55).

This is false. Christian love was fully embodied in one act: the selfless giving of Christ on the Cross. To willingly give one's self for his friends is defined as the greatest love in the Bible:

This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:12-13)

From this the greatness of Christ's sacrifice is magnified, for not only did he give his life, but he did so, "While we were yet sinners (Romans 5:8)!" Such an act, by God completely embodies Christian love! There is no greater love, or demonstration of love!

Now compare this to the example of love offered up by Dr. Cone:

The violence in the cities, which appears to contradict Christian love, is nothing but the black man's attempt to say Yes to his being as defined by God...If the riots are the black man's courage to say Yes to himself as a creature of God, and if in affirming self he affirms Yes to the neighbor, then violence may be the black man's expression, sometimes the only possible expression, of Christian love to the white oppressor(Cone, P 55).

Where in the Bible does it say we are to affirm our selves? Where in the Scriptures does it say that violence is a legitimate expression of Christian love to the neighbor? Remember, that Dr. Cone subscribes to Malcolm X's description that theologically, calling whites the devil is not far from the truth. All whites are oppressors in the eyes of Dr. Cone (Cone, P 24).

However, Cone also insists that

White people should not even expect blacks to love them, and to ask for it merely adds insult to injury. "For the white man," writes Malcolm X, "to ask the black man if he hates him is just like the rapist asking the raped...'Do you hate me?' (ellipses in original quote) The white man is in no moral position to accuse anyone else of hate." Whatever blacks feel towards whites or whatever their response to white racism, it cannot be submitted to the judgments of White society.

Basically Cone's definition of the love offered up to whites from blacks is the same as the hatred which whites should expect from blacks. Based on Cone's definitions:

Love = Hate

Hate = Love

Further, he has attempted to insulate his perspective from any criticism. However, despite his linguistic and mental gymnastics, Love, Christian love does not equal hate.

Love suffereth long, and is kind; love envieth not; love vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.(1 Corinthians 13:4-7)

It is clear from Dr. Cone's radical redefining of Christian love, that his primary purpose is not to show how Christianity is compatible with Black Power, as he claims(cone, p48), but rather to conform the image of Christ and his love to that of the extremists in a movement that is diametrically opposed to Christian Love and everything it stands for.

For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. (Galatians 3:26-29)

It's Time to Call on The One Who Really Matters

People we have reached the 40 day mark before CHANGE becomes a reality. 40 represents the time for delivery, and deliverance. The One who truly counts in this whole situatiion is God, who made it clear in His Word in 2 Chronicles 7:14, "If my people who are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal the land."

I am sure, we are all in agreement that this country, this land needs healing in every area. It is time to evoke the One who appoints leaders. So I am asking, for the sake of this country, for everyone to pray. Pray fervently everyday for the next 40 days. make it your business when you rise up in the morning to send a prayer forth for this country, for Obama/Biden, and for the people of this country. This is a good time for families to come together and pray for our nation. Prayer changes things, and if we are to trust anyone, lets trust God, who said, "His word would not return void, that it would accomplish whatever it is set to do."

Prayer and Thanksgiving

"At the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought out the Levites from all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem so that they might celebrate the dedication with gladness, with hymns of thanksgiving and with songs to the accompaniment of cymbals, harps and lyres." - Nehemiah 12:27 NASB

On this day in 1789, the Congress of the United States called on President George Washington to proclaim a national day of prayer and thanksgiving. The leaders of the young country realized they had a mountain of problems, and many observers around the world doubted the nation could survive. But these leaders also could look back and see how God had helped them in the past. Whenever they had called upon Him, He had answered their prayers.

Congress requested that "a day of public thanksgiving and prayer" be held, when they could observe "by acknowledging, with grateful hearts, the many signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a Constitution of government for their safety and happiness." Washington agreed, and proclaimed a special day, which was celebrated that November.

The young American democracy was following a tradition that began in ancient Israel, as with the dedication assembly during the time of Nehemiah. These were times of celebration, thanksgiving, and remembering all that God had done. But they also were times of prayer when they could call on God, humble themselves, acknowledge their need of His help, and seek His face.

Today, people in every nation need this kind of prayer. But you don't have to wait for a special declaration to be thankful or pray for your country. Dedicate yourself to intercession, right now. Pray for your leaders. Pray for elections. Get involved. Vote. Don't be silent, but speak out for Biblical principles. Make sure that you are living a life of righteousness. And pray for revival!

Prayers for America - Election 2008

Prayers for America are greatly needed at this time as the presidential election draws closer and as campaign rhetoric on both sides becomes more heated. Where anger and derision hold sway, there, forces of darkness can gain an easy foothold to defeat the purposes of light and of upliftment of a nation and a people.

America needs our prayers. She needs each person who cares, to pray for the light to be revealed within the heart of each of the presidential candidates and also within the American public. For the tenor of the public debate currently taking place could not be what it is if the American people were determined to have it be different. As long as we are enthralled by a ‘good fight’, fighting is what we will see. And as long as we judge strength by the force and success of combativeness, whether outright or through innuendo, we will reduce our leaders to the lowest common denominator.

There are many forces of negativity that are at work during the current campaign season – forces that would divide parties, divide the country, create fear within us so that one section of the populace feels threatened by another. As we witness these forces of division at work and the fear that is generated in their presence, we must be careful to neither succumb to the anger of criticism and accusation, nor the fear that is based on mistrust and on seeing only dreaded outcomes. Rather, we must remain in a place of love and trust that light will ultimately hold sway over darkness, and that America’s future is therefore secure, no matter what the outcome of this election. It is this love and trust that can act as an antidote to fear, and it needs to remain with us during a stormy ride that promises to become even stormier.

In addition to remaining anchored within trust, we need also to tune our hearts and our ears to listen for the sound of truth – for the feeling of truth. For much that is said by one or another in this campaign season partakes of only partial truth, and some of what is said may be entirely false. At a time when advertising, soundbites, patriotic fervor, and accusations of one to the other are meant to sway our emotions and alter our thinking, we must be courageous enough and confident enough in our heart’s discernment to always be listening and looking for the deeper layers of truth and rejecting the shallower.

There are many things to be concerned about during this election year, and many scenarios that flit through the mind’s eye that we would rather avoid. There is also the presence of greater hope for us, for a future that can be transformative and liberating. As we pray, we must pray for our own hearts and conscience as well as for that of the American people, so that we remain united in love and truth, and so that the emotional currents of the moment that divide and separate are seen for what they are, no more and no less.

May the light of God that shines through all planes and dimensions shine into every heart at this time, bringing a great illumination to the people of this country as they prepare to exercise their sacred right to vote and to elect a new President of the United States. Amen.

God is for All of Us

The dumbing down of the Republican Party has been to try to minimalize we Democrats by saying that we obviously must not love God or are not Christians because of our views on government and how it effects our lives and the lives of those around us. This makes me so angry when I hear this that I can hardly contain myself. This argument is made by those who are too lazy to get up off of their butts and do the work of God themselves so they actually feel that the government should do it for them. I am making the argument that the Republican Party has no ownership rights to God and, in fact, it is truly the work that we in the Democratic Party are doing that supports the instruction that Jesus Christ taught here on Earth.

This is what I meant earlier about their laziness. Nobody on their side or ours likes the idea of abortion. We do not want to run around and kill babies as they would lead you to believe. Our only argument is that we do not want the government legislating this to all women and thus restricting her rights to run her life as she sees fit. The element that most take on the Republican side is themselves. What solutions are they offering to these potential mothers in order to keep them from making this heart breaking decision? The Republicans are all to ready to cut off funding for welfare of the children, that is just a matter of record that not a single Republican can refute. There are a lot of good Christians that are out there trying to get other options to these mothers, but ninety-nine percent of them are sitting on their butts at home watching Fox News and not doing anything to help come up with a solution, even in the case of rape or incest. Why should they? They only have to make it illegal and then never think about these people's lives again. I don't think that to abandon these people is God's work.

Here we go, prayer in schools. Pardon my paraphrase. Jesus told us that we are not to prat out where everyone can see how Holy er are but in retrospect and quiet. WE DO NOT OBJECT TO PRAYER IN SCHOOL. We object to sanctioned prayer in school. We do not one religion to encroach upon the rights of another in utter piety as if to say that their religion means nothing, not to mention that we may be causing them a sin in their religion. Take for example, we decide that in order to honor all religions, we will have a day of prayer dedicated to each of the thousands of religions out there and we will dedicate each starting day in your children's school to a different religion. We will have the kids chanting and parcticing the Islamic faith and we'll even throw a snake or two just to keep it interesting. Would you want this for your kids if you were dedicated to your faith? I did't think so, and don't give me that nonsence about our being a Christian Nation because it just doesn't hold water. Our founding father intentionally wrote our Constitution so as to keep these powers seperate because they knew the inherent dangers of a theocracy, can you say Iran?

I have much more to say but I am tired for now, this will continue later.

You can win, if you take the high road

We've come to a tricky juncture, where Barack's authenticity has been questioned and Americans seem enamored with Sarah Palin. I watched 16 hours of the Republican convention and the subsequent damage to Obama's campaign, and this is my recommendation:

Take the high road!

Governor Palin can be her own worst enemy, if you leave her alone and let her inexperience and star play itself out. Don't mention her name. Go after McCain.

Having said that, Americans have the utmost respect for John McCain and have for years, more than almost any other figure in Washington. He is beloved. And McCain has showed respect and admiration for Obama. McCain is running on his record and wisdom. Now is the time for Obama to highlight his record and wisdom, even more than he ever has before.

Healthcare is a life-or-death crisis right now. How will you solve that? Remind us! We lost our way in foreign policy. How will you fix it? Remind us! We are focused on McCain. Bring us back! Make us fall in love with your plans again!

The best policy, when anger surfaces, is just to lay low. Take a step back. Regroup. Take the highest road. Even be silent for a while, like Steve Jobs before an iPhone bombshell. McCain did that during the Democratic convention; not a negative peep, and then look at what his bombshell did. Only the highest road will beat a respected duo like McCain/Palin.

Finally, apologize for even perceived unkindness. You didn't mean it, but apologize anyway. Take the highest of the high roads, and bring the debate back to how you will change the future. To you alone, because any attacks will backfire. Please do this for us. It is imperative.

To Obama staff, helpers, campaigners, etc: Can you get my word out? My ideas? Do you have any thoughts? Can we turn this campaign around to be the one that beats McCain's in respectability, smarts, and fairness? Your thoughts, please . . .

Dear Supporters of Barack Obama:

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

After hearing of all the negativity about our soon to be Commander and Chief, I strongly believe God has given me the grace to write to all of you. Previously in the media, Mike Huckabee made a very disturbing remark - which he called a joke about our Presidential hopeful, Barack Obama. Not to mention the curious George comment and the subtle racism of his competition. I immediately sensed in my spirit that it is time for Barack’s supporters to not only vote for him, but also hold him and his family up in prayer. Therefore, I have written the prayer that God has placed in my heart for Barack and his family. It is my prayer, and belief that this prayer will circulate to the tens of millions of Obama supporters as he continues his journey to the White House.

Please print and pass along this prayer as quickly as possible - in that we may unite in prayer and keep Barack Obama and his family covered twenty-four/ seven. As we pray in faith in support of Barak, may God’s goodness and grace keep you all until the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before you this day and hour believing that you are, and that you are a rewarder of them who diligently seek you. Father-God, we come before you, lifting our eyes unto the hills from whence cometh our help, knowing that it comes from you who made heaven and earth.

We come before you united in faith and belief for Barack Obama and his family. Believing that what we pray, you will do. We come before you lifting up holy hands without wrath or doubting. Knowing that you can do all things but fail, and if you spoke it, you will do it.

Father-God, we ask that you would create in them, clean hearts and renew within them a right spirit. Cleanse them from secret faults and presumptuous sins that they devise against Barack Obama. We pray, and we take authority over hanging chads, miscounted votes, lost ballots, not enough time at polls, miscounted absentee ballots local and/or overseas, distractions of any sort, malfunctioning machines electronic or manual, unnecessary recounts, sickness or disease, favoritism and schemes of states. Father-God, we are asking for your divine protection and intervention when and wherever needed for Barack Obama. Because we know that the steps of a good man are ordered by you, and he delighteth in his way - we believe that if you are with him, who can stand against him. Open up the eyes of Barack Obama that he may see that there are more with him than be against him. For this, we thank you.

Father-God, and when he (Barack Obama) becomes this Nation’s Commander and Chief, give him the mind, intelligence and discernment to surround himself with a cabinet that will fear and admonish you, a cabinet that will follow him as he follows you. We pray for all those who are in authority from the least to the greatest. We pray for all the supporters who stand with the Obama campaign, openly and secretly. We pray and ask that your goodness and mercy follow him into the White House, and every other House. Give him the intelligence to deal with the issues and legislature of the Iraq War, Health Care, NAFTA, and every governmental issue that affects these United States of America.

We thank you that we serve a God who never slumbers nor sleeps, is Omnipotent, Omnipresent, and Omniscient - who loves us.

Words cannot express what happiness and relief I feel after watching the people in the crowds, of the Democratic Convention 08. The speeches were inspiring and make me once again, feel proud to be a US citizen. I think the reason the applause went on so long before each speech, was the audience felt total elation in their united purpose...and Mr Obama was dead on when he said "this isn't about me, it's about us"... I know the change is coming, I know Mr Obama is the CORRECT agent of that change...If God has a moment from His busy schedule to watch over us in this election, may He please make sure Mr Obama wins the election of 2008 by a margin of at least 10 perecnt so that we don't have to recount ballots...but we will if we have to.

Loved the speechifying and pagentry at the the convention, but what was all this God Bless and God Speed and Judeo-Christian prayer stuff. I wish the dems would fight the urge and tone that stuff down. Language is important, and this is the language of the current administration and all it implies.

Don't get me wrong, this isn't about bashing faith.

Obama is a Constitutional scholar, after all, and should know that keeping religion out of politics is good both for religion and for politics.

I find it disturbing that there is apparently a powerful need to mention prayer and an endorsment from an all powerful, all loving, omnicient being etc. Kinda freaky when you think about it.

A Prayer for Barack Obama

This was printed in a Jamaican magazine called Testimony. It's Volume One - Sixth Issue, and Barack Obama is on the cover. The cover story is called "Does Barack Obama Have A Testimony?", and inside are 5 pages of coverage, beginning on page 14. (You'll also see my Aunt Joan on page 39!) Here is the prayer:

Dear Lord: All of the people that You have chosen to use in the Bible had a history, were totally imperfect, but made themselves available to be used by You and were therefore able to change the course of history. Barack Obama has stepped up to the plate and those of us praying this prayer right now believe that You will stand for him, with him, and go ahead of him. We believe that if it is Your will that You will enable Barack to walk through, around, and over every obstacle. We believe Lord Jesus, that it is the very obstacles that are placed in his way that will make him stronger. They will build his character, Lord, they will cause him Lord Jesus not to rely on his earthly advisors, not to rely on his family, Lord, but to lean completely on Your for his direction and his strength. Your Word says Lord, "The joy of the Lord is your strength" and that, Lord, is our prayer for Barack Obama today. Stuart Shepard of Focus on the Family wants you to pray for something pretty important.

He wants you to ask the Lord to:

A) End to all wars.

B) End poverty in all parts of the world.

C) Help researchers find a cure for every imaginable disease.

D) Bring an end to prejudice, racism and ethno-nationalism in our lifetime.

E) Make it rain on Barack Obama's acceptance speech at Invesco Field in Denver on August 28.

If you said "E", you are correct.

Shepard serves up some rather convoluted theology as well. If it does rain on Obama (and ME) in Denver, he's going to take credit for it. If it doesn't rain, he's okay with that.

Like Senator McCain, I suspect that Shepard also has 18-year old interns running things for him.

Whoopi Goldberg, if you don't know what you're talking about, don't bring it up. Especially if you ADMIT you don't know all the facts. It's very reckless. I expect a major apology from all of you tomorrow. (Friday is on tape.)

A Prayer at the Western Wall

JERUSALEM - A written prayer that Barack Obama left this week in the cracks of the Western Wall, Judaism's holiest site, asks God to guide him and guard his family, an Israeli newspaper reported yesterday.

"Lord - Protect my family and me," reads the note published in the Maariv daily. "Forgive me my sins, and help me guard against pride and despair. Give me the wisdom to do what is right and just. And make me an instrument of your will."

The paper's decision to make the note public drew fire. The rabbi in charge of the Western Wall, Shmuel Rabinovitz, said publishing the note intruded on Obama's relationship with God.

"The notes placed between the stones of the Western Wall are between a person and his maker. It is forbidden to read them or make any use of them," he told Army Radio.

Many visitors to the 2,000-year-old Western Wall leave notes bearing requests and prayers. Obama did so during a predawn visit there Thursday, after a day spent meeting Israeli and Palestinian leaders. Maariv said the note had been removed from the wall by a student at a Jewish seminary after Obama left.

Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs would neither confirm nor deny the note was Obama's. But the handwriting appeared to match a message Obama inscribed Wednesday in the guest book at Yad Vashem, Israel's Holocaust memorial, and was on stationery from the King David Hotel, where Obama stayed.

One of the family stories my Dad likes to tell concerns my Aunt Ethel. She visited the Western Wall in Jerusalem, the holiest site in Judaism, and was surprised at how moved she felt. She was not prepared for the experience, but she wanted to write a note to God and place it in the cracks of the wall, as is the custom. She searched around in her purse for a piece of paper, but all she could find was an empty gum wrapper. She wrote her prayer on it and put it in the cracks. She always ended the story by saying, "I hope God can read shorthand."

By now you've probably heard that Barack Obama visited the Wall this week, and that he, unlike my Aunt Ethel, came prepared -- he wrote his prayer on a piece of paper ahead of time. I was a little surprised that he chose to do that -- it had never occurred to me that a non-Jew would do it, although of course he is welcome to. And yes, perhaps someone told him it would look good.

What I find stunning is that a Jewish seminary student took the note out of the wall after he left and delivered it to the newspaper, and that Maariv, the evening daily, published it. I don't think I can quite capture how offended I am by this.

Tornados in New Hampshire?

Yesterday, New Hampshire earned the dubious distinction of having the first-ever death caused by a tornado, as a woman died in Deerfield when a tornado hit her home. This is very sad, and I've been wondering all day if perhaps this tornado has something to do with global climate change.

I'm from Kentucky, where summer thunderstorms chase days of sweattin' humidity. Folks there are well-trained to spot certain cloud formations, turning on TVs and Radios for the storm team forcasts and that ever-important tornado warning alert. After some devistating tornadoes pummled Louisville in the 70's, the town became well-equiped with a community-based siren system that sounds off when those really bad clouds even hint at a potential tornado. No question these advances have saved lives, but places like New Hampshire aren't ready for that, as such weather doesn't loom above... until now.

It's a scary feeling, knowing that a looming dark cloud might be bringing some pretty rough weather our way. As areas further north sustain hotter and hotter weather, more should know about the best place to go in their homes to survive.

Say a little prayer for us, too.

Hindus Partake In 11-day prayer for Obama’s Success

Hindu.com reports that the All-India Congress in India is praying for Obama's success. They are also giving him a gold-plated iHindu dol which is currently being prayed over and will continue to soak in the energies of various Hinu temples before being sent to Obama.

This year marks my 20th year as a voting American and, correct me if I'm wrong, but I cannot recall anything like this. The level of enthusiasm around the globe for a (barely) presidential nominee is unprecedented.

The Obamas need our help with prayer and assistance. If you can call, call. If you can blog, blog. Picture it, Believe it, Pray for it

I hold in my mind a picture of Barak Obama in the oval office. I believe that Obama will win Texas and Ohio by good margins and will go on to be the nominee for the Democratic Party. He will then go on to be President of the United States. I keep this picture in my mind at all times this becomes my pray. I invite you to picture this, believe it, and pray for this as well. The more of us that do this the more power it gains and the easier the transition from candidate to president will be.

I hold another picture in my mind. In this picture we as believers and spiritual people of prayer form a wall of protection around Barack, Michelle, the children, and the vision of a better America and a better world. I also see Obama living to a great old age along with his family and continuing to affect change even then.

Anytime I can't 'see' either of these pictures I pause and work through whatever might be blocking me. The blockage is usually fear or doubt brought about by something heard, seen, or by a negative thought .

Let us picture it, believe it, and pray for it together across this country and ask others to join with us. Together we will see God's spiritual Kingdom advanced on earth. Barack Obama as president of the United States of America is part of the advance of God's spiritual Kingdom on earth. Believe, pray, and then get up and do what you can to make it happen.

Imagine Barack Obama standing on the steps in Washington in Jan.2009 being sworn in as the 44th president of the united States.

Imagine his hand as it touches the bible and then imagine his lips as he says I DO.

IMAGINE THE SPEAKER STANDING AT THE POTIUM AND SAYS: "I give you the president of the United States Barack Obama"!!!!

Now imagine that the whole world is watching from some TV somewhere around the world. Imagine they can see that America really did stand for change, and yes they really can do something new, something fresh, and yes there will be something other than politics as usual in America.

Imagine peace.

it's Saturday Feb 23 and I'm up early as usual...I'm a night owl, I write my best sermons and get most of my work done when my wife and kitties are sleeping.

Today my wife Lisa and I are helping a friend with a fundraiser for ProjectLinus.org a great organization that gives free handmade blankets to children in need. For more info, check out their website.

I have really enjoyed getting to know you guys. At prsent I have 167 friends and that is just awesome! It's really awesome because I have no one in my circle of friends to talk about Obama with. We live in an all-republican, all the time neighborhood. And I have fould over the years there is just no talking to these folks. They get mad at me when I say list 5 positive changes George W has made in the last 8 years, they think for a moment and then walk away.

Even sadder than that, these are my friends, once highly intelligent, verbal, great debaters. 8 years of W has turned them into stammering, drooling idiots. :) I'm just kidding, they're not all stammering.

This Tuesday I have invited you to pray for The Obama family since there are no primaries or caucuses scheduled. 16 of you have signed up, lets get that number up to at least 25. I believe strongly in the power of prayer, long before I became a pastor. I think it is the very least we can do for this man who wants so badly what we all want.
