Don't Stop! we own this ellection, this is ours lets win this thing NOW!

This is the greatest campaign, candidate, supporters, volunteers and workers that I have ever seen! The organization is amazing, as is the drive, the belief, and the determination! I am so proud to be part of this campaign! Now we have to keep it going! We have to drive! We all know we can do it, we have one more week, a week that means so much where we can really turn it on to see everything we are working for come to fruition.

What it takes is now more, more than before more than anyone else has done or will do, for we are all making history here, this chance will not come again, this moment is special and will not happen again, the country needs this, we need this, our friends, family and future needs this. the opposition is really coming out now, it will not be easy, its getting tough out there! we cannot let the opposition destroy our country, we cannot let them destroy the dreams yet to be born.

if we ask, if there is a difference between the polices of Al Gore and George Bus, I am sure we all say yes, and we sigh thinking of how close that was! And I think now, we all would if given the chance go back in history and work ten, twenty, a hundred times harder to give Al Gore the turnout and victory in that 2000 election! History teaches u s that an election is so much more than we realize at the time. This election too will mean so much more, and we have seen our excitement, the countries excitement, we want this election, we want this person in the whitehouse!

Just thinking about the economy, I think of the internet, the jobs of the future that high speed broad band will be bringing us, bringing us if we have the right person in the whitehouse! Obama is net and tech savvy, to the extent that he uses it, he is curious about it, he supports it, and he has the most tech savvy organization ever! This is who I want runnign the country, a person that has that curiosity fire, and keen intellect who can see the benefits of a wide open internet, or supporting technology, education and green future, a future that will mean better environment, jobs, and opportunity! I will just add that the other candidate has never even used a computer! i am sorry but a mind be so removed and out of touch can not really be where it needs to be to face the challenges of NOW and next year, and to see around the corner, to know what sacrifices we will take on, what will pan out to be great goodly things that we do now for this countries future; for the children!

the opposition has a different view, they want to try the same thing again that we have seen over the last 8 years, and not only does it not work, but they have nothing that looks ahead, nothing optimistic or growing and alive, but they have a determination to stop us. I know they can not , not if we give everything we have, when we know how much this means, when we know how much this means, we must not falter, we can not afford failure, there is no back-up plan for our country, we need to do this for you, me, and everyone in this country, we must come through!

We have to be determined and we have to take ownership of this election, this is crunch time, this as Magic Johnson says, "Is Winning Time" that means time to give everything we have to see our dreams come true and love every second of it. There are those who say we can't do it, they say we will stop trying at the end, that we can't close the deal, and the opposition will be out like never before, we have to be better than anyone has ever done before, that is what it takes to make history. I know we can do it, i know we can, and what we have to do, is everyone has to keep doing what they are doing, we have to drive it, we own this election, this is ours, its our time, and we are going to fight harder, work longer and do everything we can, because this time we will not let anyone stop us, lets win this thing! YES WE CAN!

Common Cause comparison of Obama and McCain Re: Media Reform Issues -- no info about Obama concerning Public Access (PEG)

http://www.commonblog.com/story/2008/8/22/123647/812
Obama and McCain on Media Reform Issues By Jon Bartholomew
Posted on Fri Aug 22, 2008 at 12:36:47 PM EST

Where do the two major party candidates stand on the media reform issues we highlight in our new report, "Media and Democracy in America Today: A Reform Plan for a New Administration"?

It's a mixed bag.

McCain has a strong record of supporting Low Power FM Radio, increasing diversity of media ownership, funding public broadcasting and free air time for campaigns. However, he has opposed stopping media consolidation and is against net neutrality.

Obama on the other hand has been a vocal supporter of net neutrality and has actively opposed media consolidation. While generally good on most of the issues we highlight in the new report, he has less of a record to show for it.

And there are gaps in our knowledge. That's why we would like to hear from their campaigns and anyone else who can tell us where they stand on issues like reforming the processes at the Federal Communications Commission and if they support PEG Access TV.

We have a full chart of their stands on the issues we raise in our new report - as far as we know them. Check it out, and let us know if you have any more information.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am happy to read above that Obama has been a "... vocal supporter of net neutrality and has actively opposed media consolidation." However, my prime media issue is PEG Access TV. From this web site, link to Common Causes' "full chart of their (Obama's and McCain's) stands on the issues." Follow that chart to "Public Access (PEG)". Under Obama, you'll see no finding concerning Obama's stated position or legislative record on Public Access (PEG).

How does a voter find out Barack Obama's views on Public Access (PEG)?!

Wallace Stuart

John McCain Can't Read This Blog

John McCain Can't Read This Column
ARTICLE DATE: 07.16.08
By Lance Ulanoff <...>

Obviously, there are millions of people older than me who are exceedingly comfortable with all kinds of technology, though I'm starting to think they're the exception, not the rule. Many of them started working with computers in the 1970s and early 1980s when they were middle aged. I've been fiddling with computers since I was a teenager, and I'm lucky to be inside the industry—close enough to it all to learn about and try out pretty much every major new product. Kids today—and those born today, tomorrow, and the next day—will be touching technology far earlier. It will happen during their formative years, and technology will be permanently imprinted on their minds. For the youngest generations, technology will be as hardwired into their brains as their own mothers' faces.

At the other end of the spectrum are people who've spent their entire lives ignoring or sidestepping technology. They've comfortably reached their late 50s, 60s, 70s and even 80s without ever once touching a keyboard, using a cell phone, or snapping a photo with a digital camera. Technology is as alien to them as rock 'n' roll was to parents in the late 50s and early 60s.

Republican Presidential hopeful John McCain falls into this last category.

<...>

Some questions and concerns for you, Senator McCain:

If you're not online, you certainly can't understand Net neutrality or why Comcast could be at fault for allegedly blocking certain kinds of traffic.

If you're not online, Senator McCain, how can you truly understand the multitude of threats that face our children?

If you're not using a computer, how can you understand the devastating effect of spyware to individuals, businesses, organizations, and even nations?

If you're not reading e-mail, how can you understand the way millions of people spend their days and nights?

If you're not using a computer, how will you understand the role computers play in energy consumption and, potentially, conservation?

<...>

People often make light of Al Gore's assertion that he played a pivotal role in the creation of the Internet. Perhaps he overstated the point, but at least way back in the early '90s he could answer the question, "What's the Internet?" I wonder how John McCain would have responded back then.

There are probably enough people in this country that aren't comfortable with technology to give McCain a pass on this one. But he won't get one from me. Whoever is running this country and dealing with our global, digitally connected economy, the network of Internet-connected terrorist organizations, and the legions of increasingly techno-savvy third-world nations had better eat, drink, and sleep technology.

I don't know if that's Obama, either, but it's clear from McCain's own words that it certainly isn't him.

Support Obama Now!

Thanks.

Henry M

Please contribute to Obama if you can: http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/4gddt

If you appreciate my blog, then how about being my friend on the My.BarackObama.com network: http://my.barackobama.com/page/socialnet/register/33qzpcr2sl

I already have to put out to FICA...not trying to pay for FISA too.

While Senator Obama's vote on FISA represents a small portion of his policy stance...its an important part. A part he reminded us of as a unique trait as something he collaborated with Senator Feingold with when he was still battling it out, and one that defined him as he spoke intelligently about FISA and net neutrality.

While I do understand the Senator is in a race for the "Purple States", I think caution should be had on any "moves to the center". Moving to the center, doesn't intrinsically mean curtailing rights central to the beliefs of Americans in the degree that has been made popular during the last Republican administration. In more ways than one this FISA legislation could have a very chilling effect on the freedom of expression of Americans...if not a chilling effect on the enthusiasm and chances of this campaign. As much as I can imagine this is all a balancing act, I would hope Senator Obama will find stability in his most endearing asset - the sense of character, integrity, and conscience that has made so many gravitate to his campaign.

Though I have supported and been enthusiastic about the brand of politics Obama represented since one of my college classmates beamed with pride about him, long before his famed 04' convention speech, I'm feeling a sense of reservation never felt before about this campaign. With this latest nuance on FISA and latest position on Iran, I'm feeling I might need to hold onto my enthusiasm about "spreading the change" both figuratively and literally. As much as I still have high hopes for this campaign, I think these latest developments have tempered my enthusiasm over the last few weeks. I'm going to have to ignore that pretty red "Donate Now" button for a minute, even though I've been itching to toss more into the pot. I can say what I want without censorship or without having to pay a special charge.

But the big telephone and cable companies want to change the Internet as we know it. They say that they want to create high speed lanes on the Internet and strike exclusive contractual agreements with Internet content providers for access to those high speed lanes.

Everyone who cannot pony up the cash will be relegated to the slow lanes."

For a great video on Net Neutrality (no mention of Obama) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JP_3WnJ42kw

Snopes, the foremost debunker on the Internet, agrees: http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/neutrality.asp

Please Take a Moment to Protect Net Neutrality

My fellow Obamamanians,

One of the big reasons I support Barack Obama is because he is a staunch supporter of net neutrality. If you've never heard of this term, it essentially means that telecommunications companies have an obligation to remain 'common carriers', granting no favorable connectivity to one content provider or another. This ensures that my website will be delivered to any end user with the same speed as anyone else's, provided that I am paying for an adequate hosting package. The media monarchy of AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, Time Warner, and Comcast (to name a few) desperately want to change all that. They want to move the content they cannot control into a 'slow lane', which would put smaller, more independent websites at a severe disadvantage against those that are favored by the telecoms.

We must break the cycle of media-ownership that has continually prohibited ordinary people from having a voice. It happened with print, it happened with radio, it happened with television, and if we don’t start making some noise now, it WILL happen to the Internet. It will be a slow, invisible process, and once our power to speak out is diminished, it will be much more difficult to get it back. It’s time to stop being a passive, reactive citizenry and start being proactive about our rights and freedoms.

I’ve recently taken up net neutrality as somewhat of a flagship issue after reading two different news stories this week about Time Warner and Comcast quietly rolling out what I consider to be NN-hostile policies in select markets. Time Warner is trying out ‘metered’ usage and bandwidth caps (caps which seem insanely low considering the high usage of video these days), and Comcast is instituting “protocol agnostic” bandwidth management policies (note that they are not called “content agnostic”). Now neither of these may be directly related to the issue of net neutrality in the sense that they do not appear on their face to give one content provider a notable advantage over another. In both cases, however, there is ample room for abuse if we do not push Congress to enact regulations and oversight that prevents the telcos from abandoning their obligation to remain “common carriers”. I have tried to make the case throughout the blogosphere that absent any net neutrality regulation, metering and bandwidth caps will be the trojan horse through which they introduce the “slow lane” that goes to the heart of this issue. If metered usage does end up becoming prevalent, people will absolutely hate it before too long (and most of us will have no other options). Without net neutrality, I believe that we will see the telcos introduce “preferred partner” content that will not be subject to these meters and caps. The consumers will have absolutely no say in which sites get this preferential treatment, but I can guarantee you that it will benefit the telocs more than the public at large. Comcast and TWC will never outright prohibit users from going to any site they want, but any sort of preferential treatment such as the type I’ve described above is totally fair game without a rock solid set of laws protecting net neutrality.

Can anyone deny that an open and egalitarian Internet has proved absolutely vital to the health and vitality of our democracy considering the historic candidacy and campaign of Barack Obama? Such a campaign would have been much more difficult if our ability to speak out were hindered by the policies being pursued by our telecom oligopolies. Please call or fax your representative in Congress today and ask them to support The Internet Freedom Preservation Act of 2008 (HR 5353).

Vigilantly Yours,
Brian Douglas

P.S. I've been writing about this extensively for the last week and will continue to do so on my blog. If you'd like to learn more and join the conversation:

http://www.gracejonesland.com/procrastinationist/

P.P.S.
THE WIKI=WAY FOR WIKIPOLITICS AND POLICY BUILDING

Finally a small hole in my wall between e-obama-communities has been broken down. Another member of the mybarackobama community wrote me today about my WIKIPOLITICS blog yesterday. Wow, like finding water in a desert, finally a sign of life on the Obama blogs, I was feeling pretty alone in my blogging pursuits. Something to say and no one reading it. I followed this person's blog trail and discovered that we were on to the same doubts. Someone else who is writing about the morning after the election and how to transcribe this effective bottom up energy formed within the community of Americans for Barack Obama. In the spirit of true wiki-creative collaboration, let the WIKI-THINKING begin. How can we create a wikipedia of policy? All those experts just need a medium to feed into. In the meantime, I will reprint my yesterdays blog, add a link to his blog and a link to a friend's blog outside of the obama community that printed their take on this concept. Here is Mr. Messerly's take

http://my.barackobama.com/page/dashboard/public/Cq2g

Here is Madame Mayo's input:

http://madammayo.blogspot.com/2008/02/j-on-obama-and-practice-of-wikipolitics.html

My latest blog post on WIKIPOLITICS, debunking the pied piper theory on Obama supporters. Also a great read for political strategists trying to figure out why the Obama WIKI-WAY will keep working, its not a phenomena!.

WIKIPOLITICS

What is WIKIPOLITICS? It is the power of mass political collaboration – the power to change everything. It is an American style constitutional power - of the people, by the people and for the people. Obama is the first candidate to practice WIKIPOLITICS.

In my opinion, which I would not have been able to form, without Wiki-input, I have used the thoughts and ideas of others and proposed a political theory, that I imagine, will take shape once it hits the wiki-political community. Before I say more, I would like to credit those who have inspired my thoughts on the first draft of WIKIPOLITICAL THEORY .

Many of us are familiar with Wikipedia, the pioneer of open source internet mass collaboration. From Wikipedia comes the “Wiki”. Wikipedia brings together the knowledge of many to collectively write a living encyclopedia. Where google leads us to the sources, Wikipedia consolidates the collaborative input. I also give inspirational credit to a book entitled: WIKINOMICS: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything by Don Tapscott and Anthony D. Williams. This book was compiled with mass collaboration, bringing together the thoughts of many on how mass collaboration can change everything. As this book illustrates, from YouTube, Flickr, MySpace, Linux to the Human Genome Project, we are seeing revolutionary positive, results spawning from mass collaboration.

When I began to read this book, I had my “a-ha”(Oprah Winfrey term) moment. I realized that there was a good explanation for Obama’s record breaking campaign. There is a reason the political analysts are having a hard time putting their finger on Obama’s successes besides just liking the guy.

WIKIPOLITICS is what is happening in this election and for now it is changing the power to choose our candidates. People, outside the campaign, are having a hard time understanding the power that has been unleashed in this campaign, It’s an irony that Obama’s rivals have taken on hope and optimism as the enemy. The challengers blame his eloquent evangelist- style communication skills. What else could it be? Many would like to believe, he is just so blatantly inspirational and that must be the reason why his supporters are so hopeful and committed to his candidacy. But for some reason, this supposed phenomena, just doesn’t go away no matter how hard his supporters are criticized and insulted for their hope and optimism. That’s because WIKIPOLITICS is in play.

It will be hard for the opposition to accept that Obama’s campaign is not magical. It is not messianic. It is a pioneering massive collaborative undertaking that inspires everyday Americans to stand up, participate in the campaign and vote. This wiki-campaign is an emerging example of how Obama will move this country towards the American future laid out by our founders – the wiki-way. Changing course is happening peacefully without a revolution and it feels good. We do not need to turn against each other to achieve this change as so often is believed.

Americans have spent too many years feeling bad and helpless about what is happening to our country. Much of the disenfranchised, helpless feeling has hinged on political leadership that is deaf to the voice of most Americans. Solutions have not come lightly because the hand that feeds them their campaign finance has its own self-interest, not the best interest of the majority of Americans. WIKIPOLITICS is public campaign finance at its best because the people are deciding who their money should support dollar by dollar.

It’s hard to imagine that America’s most patriotic moment, in the last 8 years was when we all came together after 9-11. One of our worst patriotic moments was when we stood by helplessly watching an entire American city go under water and our government doing little to save them. Had there been a Wiki-Disaster Response mechanism, a Web 2.0 community with smart political leadership influences, I have the feeling the rescue and reconstruction efforts would have been far more effective and collaborative.

In Election 2008, we are witnessing the best of patriotic moments in a long time - watching Americans participate person by person, town by town, state by state in this election. This surge has momentum because people are waking up and feeling the positive energy of mass collaboration, WIKIPOLITICS can change our future.

Net Neutrality- a Roman perspective

This morning I ran across something interesting in Wikipedia's article on competition law.

By 50 BC, the technology of moving products to market efficiently via a network of sea shipping routes had revolutionized trade and had become a crucial backbone to Rome's economy. Construction of substantial harbors, lighthouses, moles and a massive commerce fleet protected by the Roman navy meant that it had become 60 times cheaper to move grain on ships than land transport.

Yet even in those days, we can see examples of businesses becoming aware of how they could take advantage of technology to rig a market. Some Roman businessmen noticed that if some ships could be deliberately delayed from reaching port, those who were able to step in and provide the products on these ships could charge a higher price. In response to such manipulations of the corn trade, the Roman Republic passed the law Lex Julia de Annona which imposed heavy fines for creating such delays.

In today's economy, information products are delivered not via ships, but via broadband. As a public asset necessary as a crucial backbone of an information economy, broadband is similar in many respects to the importance of a strong transportation infrastructure in the twentieth century.

Network neutrality is the 21st century equivalent of this time tested notion in competition law. Rigging a market by deliberately causing a delay or slowdown in shipment of certain products in order to inflate demand for one's own products should be just as illegal today as it was in the first century BC in Rome.

Many, if not most presidential candidates regard broadband in the mode of a private sector service product rather than as transportation infrastructure for central to information products. Expressed in his policy on net neutrality, Obama recognizes the necessary role of government in seeing that such infrastructure crucial to information intensive industries is expanded to reach all of America. The benefits are no less broad in scope than those that commerce enjoyed after Federal construction of a strong network of interstate freeways after the second World War.

Obama to Appoint a Chief Technology Officer! Larry Lessig Endorsing Obama's Tech Proposal!

"The CTO’s mandate would be quite different from the Cybersecurity czar appointed under the Bush Administration. Bush’s czar helped defend against cyberattacks. Obama’s CTO, by contrast, would ensure government officials holds open meetings, broadcast live webcasts of those meetings, and use blogging software, wikis and open comments to communicate policies with Americans, according to the plan."

See the full article here.

This is also discussed in this blog.

As a technology professional, the freedoms that this plan protects are freedoms that are particularly important to me. If this is all new to you, check Wikipedia for an overview on Net Neutrality.

Also huge, is Larry Lessig endorsing Obama. Momentum! Fired Up!

Senator Barack Obama on Net Neutrality: A Good Thing to Hear

Barack Obama's position on Net Neutrality is nothing new, but it's a welcome departure from the constant but powerful "Iraq War" message he is pounding into the ears of whoever listens. There is actually a podcast on the Senator's website dating back to June 8, 2006 located here: http://obama.senate.gov/podcast/060608-network_neutral/ or download it directly here: http://obama.senate.gov/podcast/060608_Sen.Barack_Obama_Podcast_Network_Neutrality_31.mp3

To say I am delighted to hear him speak about this is an understatement, it's really overwhelming. But in reality it's something he has said before already. I'd love to see him beat the "Net Neutrality" issue into the minds of voters again and again, especially since Comcast was outed for slowing down traffic from subscribers using peer-to-peer (P2P) connections in their high-speed cable Internet accounts.

I'm not going to debate the issue with Comcast since the media has already covered it completely. But I will say it's such a good thing Barack is starting to add some balance to his campaign message, and I sure hope he continues to do this in a more proactive way and not in a reactive way.

Barack on Net Neutrality

Yesterday at the MTV/MySpace Presidential Dialogue, Barack Obama again declared his strong support for Net Neutrality. Here's what folks are saying about Barack's stand on this critically important, yet underreported free speech issue -- also known as the "First Amendment of the Internet."

CNET's NewsBlog:

Affixing his signature to federal Net neutrality rules would be high on the list during his first year in the Oval Office, the junior senator from Illinois said during an interactive forum Monday afternoon with the popular contender put on by MTV and MySpace at Coe College in Iowa.

Net neutrality, of course, is the idea that broadband operators shouldn't be allowed to block or degrade Internet content and services--or charge content providers an extra fee for speedier delivery or more favorable placement.

Adam Green, director of MoveOn's internet freedom campaign:

Voters are looking for the type of boldness Senator Obama showed today – with his promise to reinstate Net Neutrality during his first year in office and only appoint FCC Commissioners who support Internet freedom.

Jason Lee Miller at WebProNews:

A question was posed by Joe Niederberger via 10Questions.com, and was voted up as an important issue. MTV said they would relay Niederberger's question to Obama during a live dialog. Niederberger asked:

"Would you make it a priority in your first year of office to re-instate Net Neutrality as the law of the land? And would you pledge to only appoint FCC commissioners that support open Internet principles like Net Neutrality?"

Obama gave a resounding reply:

"The answer is yes! I am a strong supporter of net neutrality..."

MyDD's Todd Beeton also blogged about Obama's "unqualified support" for Net Neutrality.
