Today we had a good turn out at the Saint Petersburg's Library. In numbers we came and left to get signatures for support of President Obama's healthcare. The meeting was short, since we were all self motivated!

I'm making phone calls, sending e-mail messages, connecting with volunteers from the campaign to REMOBILIZE the campaign effort for the passage of real, lasting health care reform THIS YEAR. I am serving as the OFA Regional Lead for part of the 4th Congressional District and the 7th Congressional District in Virginia. Staff will be in state soon, but for this effort it is up to us volunteers to take the reigns and restart the campaign to fix our health care system.

The North Fork Rocks!

Bobbie, Tara, Ty and I attended the 3rd meeting of OfA on the East End, at the Southold Unitarian Universalist Church today, Sat., 2/28/09. Their group is about the same size as ours. Counting the four of us, there were 52 people in attendance. In a previous meeting, OfA East End established several committees: leadership, service, environment, youth and economy. Today we heard reports from all the committee leaders. They have a very ambitious agenda, and a lot of energy. It was great to see. Their service group is taking a similar approach to ours; looking for opportunities for their members to volunteer with existing local organizations. The economy group is already planning to start lobbying local politicians to get behind the Obama stimulus plan, and bring it down to the local level. The head of their youth group is an organizer for Communities that Care, which we heard about in our last meeting, and may be involved with the Springs group.

Mendobama Coffee Club gets Underway!

Dear friends in Obama-ites:

After the great surge of elected strength which put Barack Obama into office to lead us through this tough time of recovery, we in Mendocino County (check it out, 3 groups already!) are interested in sustaining a viable base of Obama supporters who can keep the "hope alive" and remain an active force both on the internet and in our County. The easiest way to do this, I believe, is the continue to gather informally to discuss all things Obama, to learn each others names, to volunteer for community events as a block, and to be a support for each other. I created the Mendobama Coffee Club, last Fridays of the month, 3:30pm (tea time, actually) to meet at the Coffee Critic on N. State Street & Scott in Ukiah, for that very purpose.

I hope you will join me - and comment to me here online about what you would like to see happen, your ideas on inplementing change and most importantly, supporting the President on a grassroots level. Hope to see you at a meeting sometime!

To Improve Communication

Dear Friends at "Change Begins with YavapaiC";

I'm logging in "Organizing for America" (my.barackobama.com) at least twice daily to find postings by our group members. To my disappointment there are practicaly no postings available. I thouht that this would be the wall that we would all visit from time to time as a bulletin board as means for our communication.

Chip and Lou Ann, also Keren Clark do inform us via email as events are being planned, but I think our group members are missing out by not sharing thoughts as deemed necessary for good exchange prior to any gatherings.

I propose to agree on some form of exchange of thoughts regarding the unfolding of these historical times with Barack. There must be lots of ideas, questions, unknowns, doubts and the like that we together could get some light shed on or questions answered, anxieties calmed. We are missing out here and since we all want the Barack Obama Administration to succeed, we must have a closer tie to be developed amongst our like mindset.

I hope I'm not coming on too strong, but really want to get beyond wishful thinking or just waiting for the next gathering.

Another observation; we have to get to that website, desktop, laptop or mobile and read those posts. I see posts that are begging for replies but there are NONE.

I'm looking forward to see you guys March 1, Sunday at Casa Bonita! See you there.

Calling Fun People and Other Superheroes to Specialtys on Valentines Day

Calling All Artists, Creative Types, Fun People and Other Superheroes Meeting at Specialtys Cafe in Santa Clara was enlightening. We turned the corner in the cafe into the meeting area to see a bunch of tables covered with butcher paper, crayons and miscellaneous other stuff: big fluffy brushes, cat musician statues, pine cones, press-on lights and turkey feathers. All tools to inspire and motivate brainstorming. Our host Janet, AKA Jon, got our creative juices going.

Meet with like-minded friends and neighbors for an lively brainstorming session on what we can do to start creating the change we want. Expect to come away with specific, achievable and fun objectives; small steps and short term goals with long term results.
Our first event was a lot of fun, and people came away with a better sense of where they wanted to contribute their time and energy. Since we have a mix of new people and people who were at the first meeting, we will blend the same kind of brainstorming with coming up with at least one small, easy step we can each take toward achieving our contribution goals. We will stick with things that personally intrigue and energize us, to make it easier to take those steps.
We need all of us, with all our various interests, abilities and experiences to make this a great nation and a good world, whether times are good or bad.

It kind of worked. By having people write their notes in crayon on the tables, it put most of the group on the same wave length. Silicon Valley, the southern part of the San Francisco Bay Area in Northern California, United States of America and the bay area in general, have over 100 active BarackObama.com active groups. Most groups are within an hour drive of each other. We are concerned that ideas and work may be duplicated because each group is isolated. We could strategize more efficiently and work towards results if people interested in the same topic connected.

We broke into four groups of 4-5 and brainstormed together. My groups spent the part of the 20 minutes or so talking about how we could find out what other regional groups are working on. How to merge interests and resources? We also discussed specific ideas people want to champion such as converting from oil to solar energy.

After 20 minutes, everyone got up and switched groups. So by the end of the meeting, you talked with at least 12 people, a majority of folks who showed up. Many had participated in the Santa Clara economic recovery meeting at the library mentioned in the San Jose Mercury News article, "Weekend 'Stimulus Parties' Bring out Obama Faithful Across the Nation" by Denis C. Theriault. The group plans to meet monthly, so it'll probably get a lot done over time.

Puppy Love Economic Recovery Meeting 2-7-9

Over 20 humans and 3 dogs met the first Saturday of February to talk about the Obama Administration's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, at that time known as the economic recovery plan.

fixing the economy is like our getting our new puppy. you get an older one to help entertain the new guy. she takes off gets hit and you gotta pay the vet bills. Plus all the normal puppy work.
But now you're obligated, so bear down and learn to enjoy it. No turning back. It'll get better. So come see our new dogs, and we'll watch barack.

Most People are talking about shooting for noon. and hanging out for an hour or two. my original idea was an open house, but maybe that defeats the purpose of networking between y'all. Anyway i'm excited to network. My ideas on the stimulus plan line up with Obamas call to winterize homes. I'm into energy policy, This seems like this is a good way to flex this Organizing for America system and see if it works.

Our host, Tod, started us out by playing Governor Tim Kaine Answers Economic Recovery Questions video. The next few hours we spent talking issues important to Silicon Valley in specific and America in general.A couple of the action items we took away was to contact (e-mail, phone, snail mail) our US Congress representatives and other influential congress people in other states.We could focus on whatever topics interested us most but the main goal was to encourage them to support the stimulus bill. Most non wealthy people can afford to wait out the bad economy without work from our government.

Below are pictures of some human participants and a couple dogs. The long haired Dachshund puppy was the host dog and the black terrier, Culo, was the visitor dog.The meeting ended with a homemade berry and oatmeal dish, salad and pulled pork. A very nice Mountain View CA meeting all around.

Victor, IA - Change is Coming - Meeting

The Victor Library was the venue for the local Obama Presidential Transition Team Meeting held on Sunday, December 14, 2008. This meeting was held in conjunction with thousands of meetings held in homes and public venues all over the United States on this weekend.

Although the group was small due to many people having other committments, the discussions were quite often lively and stimulating. The group went over ways to follow the Obama transition activities, such as going on line to access change.gov. This allows a person to keep current with appointments of department leaders in the administration and read the administration's stands and plans on issues related to each subject (ie. economy, education, Iraq war, health and welfare, veteran's affairs, transportation, energy and environment, etc.). There is also a place on the site to send in concerns and/or recommendations on issues. Citizens are encouraged to give input. The names and addresses of our governor, local Iowa state house and senate representatives, and US senate and house represenatives were supplied to participants for another avenue of input.

It was discussed that there are many issues one could give input on either as a group or as in individual. The group voiced their agreement that it would like to participate in volunteerism within the community in ways that would benefit their fellow citizens. They also agreed they would like to hold further discussions to push forward issues that were important either at a local or national level.

President-Elect Barack Obama is encouraging strong citizen involvement in rebuilding the country. There can be a volunteer role for anyone and everyone.

I went to 2 Change is Coming meetings yesterday and had a very good time. In addition to meeting lots of very warm, smart and productive folks in my neighboring neighborhoods (LOL) I learned a lot about city planning, green waste recycling and transportation. The most interesting discussion I participated in had to do with EDUCATION issues. There are many facts, opinions and suggestions being proposed by very intelligent people across this nation and I hope that Change.gov will help to facilitate a discussion on education at all levels - it is truly relevant and much needed.

We also discussed the upcoming national King Day of Service. This is MLK, Jr's birthday/holiday. Barack and Joe have already committed to working this day (1/19/09) and have asked that we as a nation do the same. My groups are trying to decide on a project such as feeding the hungry/homeless, talking to kids about & against violence or holding neighborhood clean-ups. Owens River Democratic Club

Last night, my husband and I went to the Owens River Democratic Club meeting at the Pizza Factory. My first thought when we entered the room was "wow, there are a lot of old Democrats!" I'm embarrassed that this is the first thing I noticed, and not the fire in their eyes or their feisty activist personalities, but after sitting in the meeting for a while, those things came forward as the most memorable about the group, not their ages.

I've been a little uncomfortable with all the ageist jokes about McCain - even though I laugh at some of them, I make sure to take a bath afterwards - ha. But I love seeing the elders in action! Some of these people have been progressive activists since before I was born, and I'm 50!! There were some real characters, and some funny folks, and mostly very passionate people who have managed somehow in this cynical world to retain their idealism through the decades. There is much to learn from their example!

We left feeling uplifted and generally happy - I'm just glad there are Liberals in Bishop! I met some others through my Yoga class, but they just aren't the people you meet in town, in general.

I am very much looking forward to the Obama Rally on October 11th here in Bishop at the Park! I also hope to get involved with phoning undecided voters or helping get folks registered.

I. UPDATE - 36 days to go

Questions/Issues are to be addressed at these weekly meetings, each Monday through November 2, 2008.

Thanks for the great work these past few weeks. Registered over 500 new voters.

II. Office hours. – until the election the office will be open every day during the week from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, the office will be closing early due to the Amarillo Young Democrats fundraiser at Beef O’Brady’s at 5.30 p.m.

III. Moving forward!

Continue the Voter registration drive with an emphasis on October 1st. Drive will be held at United Supermarkets and Wal-Marts. Leslie Crawford will be the contact for dates and times of all who want to volunteer.
Phone Banking. Gentry Powell will be in charge of organizing phone banking using the VAN. Access to the VAN will be through Abel Bosquez & Jim Otto. Volunteers will be needed to help with this.
Through Phone Banking we will build Precinct Chairs for all the Precincts in Randall and Potter County.
Mary Pride and George Norrell have taken charge of organizing a park rally in the near future. (They will report on their progress at the next meeting.)
Ken Bailey, from the DNC, has been assigned to JD Gins (our Panhandle Field Director) to help us organize. He is in Lubbock and should he heading our way soon.

*************NOTE: spoke with Ken after the meeting and he will be coming to our meeting next Monday night!!

IV. Discussion/ Ideas!

Target some of the local high schools for voter drives. Tony will contact the AISD to get permission. Details to follow.
Go to churches and hand out flyers offering transportation to some of the individuals that may not be able to get to the voting locations.
Start building a base for Poll Watchers.

Jim Otto: Poll Watchers must be designated by County Chairs.

Randall Co. Poll watcher training on Wednesday, Oct 29, time TBD.

Poll Watchers must stay at the polls at least 5 hrs.

Duties- make sure things are conducted properly according to FEC Regs

I have a suggestion concerning the financial rescue plan

I have a suggestion concerning the finical rescue plan that may relieve the strain from for the government from directly adsorbing all of the debt.
First of all, I think we need to immediately act before our economy implodes. Would it be feasible to allow the government the bail out banks by purchasing the shares (or debts in whatever form) first. Then, Instead of letting the government hold the blunt of the debt or letting the very elite private sector purchase the debt. (which may be sold to other countries or overseas private companies) How about letting U.S. Citizens purchase shares in the form of low cost Bonds. that way the government will not have to bear the entire blow of this debt, and if they are inexpensive and accessible, the government will be able to recover more of those funds by exposing it to the masses instead of the elite minority. If the people are paying for this mess, how about letting individuals Americans own a share of what we are trying to save.

Also, like many share holders, share ownership will create an initiative to purchase goods and services to those companies wich is also good for America.

Let's meet, if you can, tomorrow, (if you can't, there's another meeting scheduled for Tuesday), Monday at 7:00pm before the next meeting of the Potter-Randall Democratic Club. That's Sept. 22, (the Dem meeting starts at 7:30pm), the BWA/CTFO meeting starts at 7:00pm at Carpenter’s Union Hall, 702 S Madison St., Amarillo, corner of Madison and 7th St., downtown. I’ll be there until the Dem meeting is over, so come on out as you can!

Please bring ALL ideas and suggestions you’d like to help implement, any supplies and resources you’d like to pool and share, and any questions you’ve wanted to ask.

If you can't make Monday's meeting in Amarillo, there's a second meeting in Canyon, Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 7:00pm at the Hastings Hard Back Cafe coffee shop at 205 N. 23Rd St., just as you come off the highway from Amarillo right next to the United Supermarket.

"Who– and What -- Revived our Interest in Politics?" is topic of the August 20th meeting of the Wine & Unwind lecture series.

Carol K. Fowler, chairperson of the South Carolina Democratic Party, active in politics for over 20 years, is a super delegate to this year's national convention. She will comment on and lead audience discussion about the phenomena of revived interest in regional, statewide and national politics. Norman Jackson, Richland County Council member, will introduce her.

Obama Startup Meeting

This was the kickoff meeting of the Obama presidential campaign in Jefferson County and the enthusiasm showed throughout. A special “thank you” to the Jefferson County democratic chairman, Sean Hennessey, for offering his time and office space for this meeting. Among the decisions made were: 1. to outreach the Obama New York State Director’s, David Pollak’s, office and request palm cards, 2. to recruit volunteers once we receive these for a literature drop scheduled for up to two weekends (one day each) before the general election, and 3. to use the democratic office at the Lincoln Building for any additional meetings (schedule permitting). What has been accomplished is the establishment of an official Obama presence in Jefferson County that will begin political campaigning on the candidate’s behalf. If anyone is interested in volunteering for a literature drop or can blog this, please let me know.

I am pleased to announce that we are planning for another event to canvass non-committed and un-registered voters in the Fenton area this weekend. This will be a three day event taking place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 15th,16th and 17th. Come and join us and be a part of a historic and crucial moment in time. We Need CHANGE! And we Need It NOW! And ensuring that Barack Obama becomes the next President of the United States will bring about the CHANGE we need.

So this is why I am sending out this Blog to those of you in our area to let you know about the event and invite you to please come and participate. Here in the conservative strong-hold of Amarillo, Texas, hopefull Democrats and Independants gathered for a meeting on the Platform. But while hopeful about Senator Obama's promises about what he will do if elected, the biggest concern of some area voters is what the next president will be willing to undo.

“Repeal the Patriot Act!”

“Get rid of ‘No Child Left Behind! “

“Let regulators regulate!”

These were just a few things participants shouted out in the seconds following the opening of the floor at a recent gathering of Democratic voters in Amarillo, Texas. They gathered as a part of the “Listening to America on the Platform ” events sponsored by the Obama campaign. The purpose of the meeting was to provide input to Senator Obama and the Democratic National Convention on the issues that should be addressed in the new Democratic Platform.

But it was the name of George W. Bush that came up most often. On everyone’s mind was what the lasting effects Bush Administration policies will have on our country and for how long.

Hartford House Meeting Report

Many thanks to the 27 (!) people who showed up to find out more about the Obama campaign at the first Hartford Unite for Change house meeting. It was an inspiring evening, thanks to the often eloquent comments from attendees about their reasons for attending the meeting or wanting to be involved in the campaign. It was a great kickoff to further action in Hartford.

If you did not attend this meeting, please watch for the next one to come up. If you attend one, I'm sure you'll be glad you did. If you are interested in hosting one, that's even better. Feel free to contact me if you have questions or want help planning and running it. The challenge is not great; the rewards are.

Two Obama campaign field organizers attended our meeting. Both Tessa and Clay are going to be great for people in our area to work with. Watch for an opportunity to meet them! (Clay will be working with Washington County, Tessa with Ozaukee, but both will be in the West Bend field office at least for awhile.)

It has been awhile. Life, like this campaign, is busy! This week we noticed that our membership has met a milestone we never imagined was possible - 1500 members worldwide. And over 1800 join us from the myspace group. Felt it was a great time to reflect, see who is joining us, and connect with you.

This is an exciting journey that is full of firsts for many of us. I grew up with the notion that it was not proper to talk about religion or politics with company and here I am! Is it your first time voting or giving money to a campaign or attending a political function? I bet one of those applies to you. It is everyday mothers and women like you and me that are helping to fuel this campaign. Our organizational skills, gift of gab, cooking ability (or the cookies from the bakery we pass off as our own!), decorating eye, and more are being utilized AND appreciated. Your time and talents are precious and we thank you for using them to help elect Barack Obama as the next President of the United States.

And drum roll please... meet our 1500th member - Shannon. She is a busy and passionate woman. I can tell she is embodying her own profile quote "We are the change we have been waiting for." This Hillary and Obama supporter is holding a platform meeting in Southern California next weekend . She has phonebanked for Barack with a teenager in tow (way to get them involved!). On July 4th she was inspired to write a blog.

Speaking of events. If you ever host we encourage you to post it to our group for advertising purposes. We "rotate" the main page event listings so your event will have a headline there. Are you overseas? You can now create and post events on this site! Want to host but not sure what to do? I have compiled a list of event ideas seen or done in the grassroots. Just email me directly. Women and mothers have been the lifeblood in our communities and the leaders of change. Who else raises money for the school or leads the cleanup of a local eyesore- an old industrial site or abandoned lot? Thanks to Rosa ALL Americans can sit wherever they want on the bus.

Wishing you could do something for the campaign? Do something, just one thing. You can start by looking at the EVENTS near you. You can get out and work or socialize. Try hosting! Even the administrators for the Moms for Obama have taken the plunge. Earlier this week I hosted a postcard party. Next week Carolyn is hosting a social. Gail is holding a Listening to America Platform meeting later this month.

Ready to connect with your neighbors? You can get a list of voters, script and other information via the site. If leaving home is not an option there are things you can do! Connect with your local grassroots group to see if they need some help. Sit down and write postcards to other voters. You can blog. Make phone calls from home using this site via the ACTION Center. Lend your talents to a fundraiser or event (like quilting squares, organizing the volunteers, or making cakes for bake sales). Hold a yard sale and send the money to the campaign. Connect with your family and tell them why you support Obama and encourage them to consider him too.

...And please reach out to your local Obama for America campaign office. Did you know that many of our Obama organizing fellows, interns, and paid staff may have never lived in your town or state? I admire their enthusiasm, commitment, and HOPE. I encourage you to introduce yourself and see if there are opportunities to lend a hand. Besides needing supplies (trust me it is paper- be it toilet or computer!) they love getting contact information for community groups and leaders. While you are it- why not invite them over for dinner? You have at least one thing in common ;)

Ok, people --here's the deal. Some very important dates are approaching and we need to think about things that we can do to sharpen the focus and impact of these dates on a local level. A suggestion that I made to several House Meeting Hosts in my area is to add these dates on meeting agendas and to ask for ideas that we can continue our GOTV activities along with educating people about the significance and nuances of these upcoming dates and activities. You would be surprised that many people do not know what happens at a National Convention or why we even have a convention. These are great meeting discussions and make great focal points for activity planning.

I am hoping that the activities at the city, county and regional campaign offices will focus on some creative and exciting events geared towards the impact of these dates.

Quick meeting update

I had hoped to have time to write up a detailed post, but I didn't get home tonight until late and then had some computer problems. At this point, I'm sleep typing, so I hope I don't wake up in the morning to discover that I've posted a promise to auction off my daughter in support of the Obama campaign. (Not that it is never tempting, but I suspect that one or more of her grandparents would object and I'd probably come to regret it...) I do, however, want to post something about the meeting so I'll say that it was small, but productive and that we have scheduled our first kid/mom-friendly volunteer session for next Wednesday, the 23rd of July, from 1-4 at the Obama campaign headquarters. There will be some form of semi-structured plan to appease the kids, story time, coloring pages, crafts, something and as soon as I'm more aware of the details, I'll post an event notice like the one that I did for the meeting.

Uniting for Change Across America (My Personal Event)

I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day. Though meteorologists called for gloom, the sun peaked its head through the clouds and happily exposed itself, lifting my spirits as I called my two Republican friends to help me set up. Belle, Karen and Jen, two of whom had voted for George Bush, were on their way to my house to help me Unite Americans for Change. We set out shrimp cocktail and croissant sandwiches along with an assortment of sodas, and breathed a sigh of relief as we finished and the doorbell rang. At promptly 12:00 p.m. guests came rolling in, with big smiles and hellos, and even a few "YES WE CANS!" I put on a DVD of Barack's speeches while we ate and got to know one another. It's amazing what happens when people actually stop and take the time to say "hello" to their fellow American. Next, I told my story of why I am supporting Barack and Ryan (an Obama fellow who helped to run the event) shared his as well. We then let all who attended share why they were here. We were a group of Jews, Christians, and Muslims. Catholic, white, latino, and black. Asians, sports fans, CEO's, and line workers.....Americans. Americans who all sat inspired and ready to get this country back on track. An investment banker at Merrill Lynch, who said he came because he was interested, but not a supporter, yet by the end of the meeting, he signed up to volunteer for Obama! A Republican who was worried about taxation from Dems, who stated that all her life she had voted 'Republican' yet after learning the truth on Obama's taxation policies that she would change this year. A Hillary supporter, as passionate about Universal Health Care as anyone I had ever met, who came because she believed that Obama would finally be the one to deliver it. From those who have been with the movement since Obama's Senate run in Chicago to those who just signed on with movement; through all our differences, sitting in my basement and out on the patio, there was so much more we had in common.

Obama's ideas for our country and message to Americans are attainable, doable, common sense policies that I know will help to turn this economy around. When people stop to listen and learn, not just vote a party, but voting from knowledge of proposals the choice is clear. We learned this day that your options this election are Obama's policies of new ideas to lower taxes for the working American, health care for every American, new jobs through energy independence. Or John McCain's policies that are the same Bush policies that have and will continue to destroy our economy, obliterate the middle class and increase poverty levels and therefor crime, while selling our country to China and Europe. As I said before, the choice if very clear for anyone willing to listen. Americans came to my home, every religion, race, class and age. They came to unite to make our country a better place for us and our children. Together we will.

Last election, only 48% of eligible voters actually voted. 65% of those not voting were Democrats. Last Weekend's Meeting at Hazel's

Hello, everyone.

Hazel hosted a wonderful Unite for Change gathering this past weekend, and I wanted to give those of you who were unable to attend an overview of some of our ideas for helping the campaign in the coming weeks. Although it's expected that a local campaign office will open up in the next six weeks, now is an excellent time to help jump start the Jacksonville campaign by helping to register voters. Some of our ideas for registering voters:

1) Work with local churches and other places of worship.

2) Reach out to the Hispanic community. This could be as simple as posting voter registration flyers in local Hispanic-owned places of business. Someone at the meeting also mentioned that there are several local Hispanic churches where we could engage the Hispanic community. If any Jacksonville volunteers speak Spanish, please let the Jacksonville for Obama group know.

3) Reach out to the military community. Tracy has contacted several groups on Meetup.com to try to reach out to military families. If you have any other ideas for encouraging registration among the military community, please let us know.

4) Hold more registration drives at public places like Walmart.

If you have other ideas for registering local voters, please feel free to post them on the blog so that everyone can stay involved.

I'd like to see how many people would be interested in attending a meeting in Framingham. The campaign is encouraging people to do it on Saturday, June 28. I won't be able to participate that day, but I'd be glad to help organize it. Alternatively, we could hold it on another day.

I attended similar meetings for Dean during the primaries in 2004, and led meetings for Kerry in the general election season in 2004. They were helpful in giving people the information and encouragement they needed to get involved, and they were also fun!

We just ‘thought’ working in Obama’s campaign would be exciting...Now we know it is exciting! At last nights weekly meet-up we met our Western Kentucky field organizer, Brendan Beattie. He set fire to our meeting and strengthened our resolve to provide a rousing, west Kentucky victory the Barack Obama campaign in Kentucky.

Attending the meeting last night left us so energized with the knowledge that we finally get to be part of this spectacular movement that we know will reshape America to be the BEST that it can be. Join local Obama supporters as we help lay the foundation for change. Engage in a collaborative discussion on the issues facing Americans, learn how best to spread Senator Obama’s message of change to your friends, neighbors, and relatives plus, have a fantastic time while doing it.

Brendan, and his team, will help us lead more efficient voter registration efforts, maximize our calling, and/or canvassing efforts with sophistication, ease, and insure we GOTV for Obama. Even though I just met him, I feel like I have known him a long time. I know Brendan will make a significant difference just because of his professionalism, care, and concern for all of us grassroots volunteers and his belief in our candidate. Some of us have seen many elections and we had to pick through some of the issues to find a platform we supported. We choose between the lesser of ‘evils’. Others are young, energetic, idealistic, and new to the process. Now we have a candidate who knows all of our concerns. He challenges us to get involved in addressing the changes that matter to us and now, we have a chance to take an active roll.

I read on the Barack Obama web site that we may also be receive custom campaign materials, such as Kentucky-specific yard signs for our organizing meetings. Awesome!

Our ultimate goal is to locate all of McCracken County’s Obama Supporters (fresh and seasoned) before the primary and train them to become enlightened political pundits and experienced Champions for Barack!

What an exciting time for NC and for those of us in the Triangle area! The first Obama national campaign organziational meeting was last night in Raleigh and was absolutely packed, standing room only. I truely hope that we only build upon this excitement. With three offices in the triangle and talk of at least one more, there should be a lot of focus by the campaign on this area. For all my short life, I never remember anything like this coming to North Carolina. It could be a long time until it happens again. NC will truely matter this year in the primaries and you never know, it could matter in the general election.

My thoughts on the WV State Meeting

Great Energy, Great People! Many from around the state gathered to coordinate our efforts. It was nice to see all the groups doing different things to reach out to supporters--some were very creative.

I enjoyed the 1-on-1 session training. It is one of the best tools for grassroots efforts. What I took from the meeting was that Voter Registration, the 4/12 County delegate selection meeting, Outreach via canvassing and letter writing were the main outlets to gain support rapidly.

The fierce urgency of now. Each county group should take action right away.

Looking forward to continuing our efforts in this uphill (or maybe up-mountain since this is WV) battle.

Thank each and every one of you that attended the meeting today, it was a great success. We had roughly 50 people attend and sign up to volunteer and get involved in the campaign. I also would like to inform all of you that on Friday I spoke to someone in the campaign and they have informed me that paid staffers will be in the city in 1 - 2 weeks!!! Eric and I have also offered our building downtown to house the campaign headquarters and they are very, very interested. Time to get to work NC

As I sit here, having read through every blog and news report I could find, I realized one thing: It's Time to Get to Work!!

I have to admit, I wanted to scream at the thought of the upcoming weeks, more mud being thrown, the negative adds and the ultimate damage to our Democtratic Party as a whole. But as my husband reminded me, this is an election, there are ups and downs, get over it and get to work! I felt like the girl in the Tom Hanks movie, when he declared "There's no crying in baseball".

So with all that said, It's time the get to work NC. Here in Fayetteville, I am planning a meeting on Saturday to get some volunteers organized and get some grassroots in motion. I have never done this before, and am proud to have over 60 Obama supporters signed up and I am expecting more than that!

So if this democratic nomination is going all the way to the convention, NC WILL play a role in this nomination. If Clinton is looking for a 3AM phone call let's give it to her, let's let her know that Fear Mongering does not equal credentials! But in Fayetteville specifically, we know what 3AM calls are all about, they are call green ramp to deploy to wherever in the world the proud Special Forces, 82nd Airborne and 18th Airborne Corps are needed. So we, in this city of History and Heroes, know that a call at 3AM will affect our families and friends more than most. This is a city where the national security experience of those that have served is not centered on theories or books, but on training and bullets. Let's make sure that the person that answers that call has judgement and integrity. Judgement to make the best decision and the integrity to stand by it. Her past history tells us she does have the judgement and her fear mongering tells us she does not have the integrity to stand by it.

In Training for Lasting Change

They started arriving early, more than an hour before we were due to start.

They carried in plates of cookies or sandwiches, campaign literature or extra pens. Some brought posters to decorate the room. One guy showed up with nametags. A hot tea urn was set up. More cookies arrived, some even beautifully hand-decorated with the Obama logo. They started setting up chairs.

Nobody told them to. They just did.

Instead of standing back and thinking, "Somebody else will do it," we just got busy.

That's the way Obama supporters are. We actually believe that we are the change we seek -- and we act on it.

We're empowered.

I counted 82 people at our delegate training meeting today and, looking around the room, I was as proud of my country as I've ever been. The people in this room are the embodiment of what makes this country great -- and of we have to do to restore our American values.

Show up. Get busy. Take a stand.

Five different legislative districts were represented. Some drove over an hour, one way, to be there. Others took unpaid leave from work. Everyone gave a sunny Saturday afternoon they could have spent differently.

After years of official lies and secret detentions, nasty partisanship and relentless attacks on our Constitution, we're getting busy cleaning up this mess. We're finished with the status quo. We're not settling for the usual petty bickering and stalemates. We’re sick and tired of being sick and tired.

And we're ready to do whatever it takes to get our government back.

We're empowered.

What drives this sudden outpouring of determination from across the whole country? What fills rooms on sunny afternoons?

One guy: Barak Obama.

We know he, of all the candidates, has the vision, the judgment and the leadership qualities it takes. He, better than anybody, can facilitate fundamental, seismic changes in Washington and thus across the entire world. His values of practical consensus, of inclusiveness instead of partisanship, and his steady adherence to our core American values of personal responsibility, community, and respect for all, are precisely what we need to restore faith in our nation. His willingness to empower grassroots participation is deeply rooted in his profound respect for the American people and his trust in our values, our generosity and our willingness to sacrifice.

I saw that this afternoon. I saw eyes light up, hearts and minds engaged. I saw determination for real, lasting change on every face.

Why I'm Giving of My Time and Energy

My husband, 1 year old daughter Ayana and sister-in-law attended the organizational meeting in Jackson, MS tonight. I took my daughter because I wanted her to be a part of this movement for change; this historic moment in our country's history. As a family, we have watch the numerous debates and coverage of the Presidential race. My husband and I would discuss the issues and talk to our daughter as if she was one of our peers. One night, while we were immersed in our daily dosage of politics, we noticed that Ayana was talking back to the television. We stared at her for a few minutes in awe. She would talk, then clap, then raise her fist and utter something we could not understand clearly at that time.

The very next night was the last debate with all the candidates (Democrats and Republicans). After Obama finished answering a question, Ayana raised her fist and uttered "Bama! Bama!" We were amazed. This was validation that we were making the right decision by supporting Barack Obama. In some weird way, I feel like our daughter was urging us to help secure her future; to help select a president that would ensure that her future would be bright.

So, tonight, while at the organization meeting, I told myself that I would use my spare time, free minutes, energy, voice - whatever - to get out the message of Change and Obama. Ayana seemed excited as well, as she clapped after the speakers and observed everything that was going on. So, not only am I voting for Obama for me, but I am doing this for my daughter and her future.

Barack Obama informational meeting

John Bivona, area facilitator best way opened the meeting with forms and a sign in sheet for supporters to sign up for.

Mr. Bovina stressed that it’s important to get in touch with their communities. To do this is to become a “GOTV Captain”. These people are the leaders with in their neighborhoods and communities. Forms were distributed to become this leader in your community. These people would be in contact with John (area facilitator).

EARLY VOTING/ABSENTEE VOTING
One of the major goals is to get those who identify as an Obama supporter to vote before primary day. Absentee ballots are STILL AVALIABLE through individual county board of elections.

You can also vote early at the Franklin County Board of Elections M-F 8AM-5PM (Old COSI building) to submit a “real” ballot and not an absentee ballot. Absentee ballots are counted on the same day all other votes are counted on Primary Day.

CANVASSING/DOOR-TO-DOOR
John says that door-to-door canvassing is more personal and people are more willing to talk face-to-face. Maps, pamphlets, a list of registered voters that are targeted to be potential Obama supporters (democrats, independents, some republicans). Canvassing packet has a script to help start conversations. Scheduled canvassing happens on Saturdays 11AM-4PM.

Saturday March 1st is a huge day for the campaign. The goal is 50,000 people canvassing. The goal is a million doors all across the state of Ohio.

For Otterbein students, even just standing in the campus center or library during lunch or dinner passing out materials is a big help!

I was so excited today because I was finally planning to go to a meeting with other Indiana Obama supporters. Every other event I've found out about anywhere near where I live has been at a time when I had to work. (I'm a figure skating coach, so I frequently work on evenings and weekends while kids are out of school.)

So anyway, I drove all the way downtown to the library for the meeting tonight, but there was one problem. I didn't have any change for the parking meter! I guess I just assumed there would be a parking deck. I brought cash, but absolutely no coins. So tonight was a big diappointment and a phenomenal waste of gas and time. I can't believe I didn't realize that I might have to pay a parking meter!

If nothing else, maybe someone saw my Obama bumper sticker during the hour and a half I spent driving there and back and will decide to check out his website and become a supporter!

Women in Hampton Roads are Fired Up!

There was an excellent turnout tonight at Posh Dolche in downtown Norfolk. Women from Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Hampton, and Portsmouth were among those who attended. The meeting was hosted by the Norfolk-based Women for Obama group, and moderated by Daun Hester of the Norfolk City Council. It was both informative and entertaining. We discussed how we will move forward in preparation for Tuesday's primary, fundraising, upcoming events, and we shared testimonies of how/why we became involved in this campaign. There was even a former Republican in the crowd! A few enthusiastic male supporters showed up too. GObama '08 !

Thank you to all of the ladies whose purchases contributed to my personal fundraising campaign. You all helped me raise $124 of my $500 goal tonight!

These are only a few of the successes which lined my route through the Idaho Panhandle last week as I met dozens of amazing Obama supporters who are working to make sure he is the next President. After five exhausting days on the road, I feel great about efforts in our northern counties and will draw upon their energy to drive us through the caucus on February 5th.

A special thanks goes out to all of those of you who took the time to come out to our meetings, and an extra thanks goes out to Tom Fellows (Nez Perce County Captain), Justin StormoGipson (Kootenai County Captain), Carrie Nicholson (Bonner County Captain), Edith Martinez (UI Obama Group Advisor), Jessica Samuels (UI Students For Obama Lead), and Aaron Odell (NIC Students For Obama Lead), for all of their continued work as top volunteers on the campaign.

We are setting up volunteer meetings in different neighborhoods around Boston with the immediate goal of helping Obama win the New Hampshire primary. Green Gathering for Obama & Saturday's Meeting [Updated]

This Saturday, Utah for Obama will be joining Tree Utah to plant trees along the Jordan River Parkway. Our Events Coordinator, Janet Hurley, came up with the idea for us to help a few weeks back, and oddly enough, the Obama Campaign came out with a request for us to do a "Green Gathering" that same day, with suggested activity ideas including tree planting. Yeah, that's because we rock!

Anyway, if you'd like to join us, sign up here. Utah for Obama will also be resuming our bi-weekly meetings at the SLC Main Library that afternoon. Come find out more about Obama or volunteer to help with other upcoming events.

[Update] I forgot to include other events that are going on in the state. There's a River Trail Cleanup, also part of the Green Gathering effort, and then that evening's USU for Obama meeting, both in Logan. A Weeks Worth of Obama

This week started out very positive for me. I was given the thumbs up to start driving after my post-surgery follow-up. Well that allowed me to be able to attend the ceremony that surrounded the filing of the official papers to put Senator Obama's name on the SC Democratic Ballot for the Primary. I also participated in the program and was able to read a poem. On Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, I was able to be in Manning to hear an awesome speech given by Sen. Obama and shake his hand for the second time. The speech centered around the corridor of shame and the fact that yes America was ready for a change. He spoke of standing on the shoulders of giants. And mentioning giants, he was introduced by Judge Finney the first Black SC Supreme Court Judge. There were approximately 1,000 people who attended the Community Gathering in Manning. On Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, I attended the Community Gathering in Spartanburg, SC where Sen. Obama spoke about what he would do as president. He spoke of reforming health care of the fact that to make changes you had to not be in the corporate pockets. He spoke of the changes and work that he did in Chicago as well as the IL State Senate. And then to top it off, the Volunteer Team Leaders were escorted to a private room to speak to and shake hands with the Senator (third time). My day has been topped off with the Women for Obama Conference that I was partially able to attend. Now you would think that all of this activity would make tired. However, it gives me more energy. Much work still needs to be done. And there still people to speak to and get involved, registered to vote and educated about this campaign.I look forward to the coming weeks. I know with the holidays around the corner that the work will not always be easy. But it must be done if we are to have real change in Washington, DC and the White House. Peace and Blessings,Joyce

Friday I was at the Pennsylvania democratic state committee meeting in camp hill Pa. They were holding a meeting with over 300 hundred Pa. democrats in attendance

There was a woman = Renee George Martin (special assistant for legislative affairs for the commonwealth of Pennsylvania) Who shared the following

. She spoke about The USA fighting Iraq due to Sadam Husein selling oil in euro's versus dollars. She also mentioned Iran was doing the same and this was the reason Bush wants to attack Iran. She also mentioned that Pemex was the Mexican petroleum company that was altering its sales to America

She said Mexico's petroleum corporation PEMEX would only sell America oil for 7 more years. She said they need it for their future use.

She said Mexico's "Pemex" is our number 2 supplier. She said Canada was our number 1 supplier. She said Brazil and two other countries also sold their oil in euro's. She said if all oil producing countries sold their oil in euro's that America would collapse. She said china owns almost a trillions US dollars in bonds as well as the middle east owns even more in American bonds. She said the middle east holds the most and china is number 2.

Renee mentioned Henry Kissinger who cut a deal in the 70's with all the oil producing countries to sell their oil in dollars.

She said Pennsylvania has a bill called the "Penn security bill"
That means to grow it here, but one letter from the petroleum institute stopped the bill.

She mentioned an energy independence package which will be the first bill discussed here in Pa in a special session in September.

She told us to go to here = http://www.legis.state.pa.us/ and look at the house bills 1200 and 1202 and 1203. She said that it passed with the force of Pa citizens in southeast Pa who contacted their republican state house members. She said 1201 is coming up for special session. She wants us to see which republican house members mostly in central pa didn't vote for 1200, 1202 and 1203 to see if we can call them to switch and support this bill. She says if 1201 doesn't pass Pennsylvania citizens will get a doubling of their electricity rates after the contract runs out this year.

I suppose if you own stock in this company that supplies most of Pennsylvania's energy that you wouldn't mind rates doubling. However, many are poor in pa both in the cities and in the country and only a select few (more than likely republican households with stocks in this utility) won't mind a rate change.

Friday Noontime Meeting...

Jeff called from the Cedar Rapids, Iowa office and asked me to come in for a meeting to see how we could be of service to one another. Jeff is a intelligent, aware, mellow lawyer from Minnesota who is heading up the local Linn County Office for Obama to create the movement by organizing and networking the system to make it all happen.

My question for Jeff was, if Barack Obama were to TOTALLY empower you...what would your life look like, feel like....what would you be...and what would you be doing? I don't think he answered me. Jeff is a good listener. We had a good conversation about Trinity Church of Christ and what was the size of the box Mr Obama functioned out of or within.

I slept and dreamed on my own question of empowerment and awoke Saturday morning before my 10 am Happy Feet meeting at the Mt Vernon Mercy Care Center with this vision...

Obama08OK April 30 Meeting-HELP, WE NEED A LOCATION!

As we decicded at our last meeting, we are going to have a meeting on April 30. There are a number of opportunities coming up very quickly for visibility and/or voter registration, and we need to strategize on making sure each event is covered. The more visibility Senator Obama gets, the higher his poll numbers go!

Also -- we need to find a meeting space! The library will not permit us to use their facilities since we are advocating for one particular candidate. Please e-mail me ASAP if you are aware of a place that will let us meet there -- ideally for free, but we can certainly pony up $1-$2/person if need be.

There are bumper stickers and buttons available at TCDP Headquarters! Yeah! I am also told yard signs are being made and may be availble. Go pick yours up. Thank you, Elaine!

Here are the upcoming events we brainstormed last Monday. If you have information on these events, i.e., can we set up a table, how much for a booth, etc., please bring it with you to the meeting.

Moving ahead

I am so happy with the meeting that I hosted on March 27th!

The turnout was less than I expected but that turned out to be a good thing because that gave us a chance to really talk and make some plan of action for the next few months.

One of the things that we got done was deciding to get organized for Sen. Obama's visit to Georgia in April by either car pooling Middle Georgians or getting a bus depending on the number of people who want to attend.

We also came up with a location and time for the Kickoff podcast on the 31st.

It was a great group of motivated inspired people and I look forward to having other meetings to get more people on board.

I encourage everyone to get involved as much as they possibly can.

Last night was the initial meeting of Obama08OK here in Tulsa. We had 25 people in attendance! I was very happy at the number of people who showed up for our very first meeting (I had been told by someone who had been involved in the Dean campaign in 2004 their first meeting attracted 6 people).

The restaurant setting (we were in a party room) proved less than ideal. The accoustics of the room made it difficult to hear speakers, and the set-up (one long table) did not facilitate good interaction among group members. For our next meeting I'll be seeking out a meeting room at a library (fortunately, almost all Tulsa City-County libraries have meeting rooms which can be booked for free), or possibly a union hall.

There was some concern expressed over Senator Obama's 3/19 visit to Oklahoma. He'll be attending a $2,300/plate lunch fundraiser hosted by Tulsan George Kaiser (very wealthy/very influential), then onto Oklahoma City for a rally. Some folks felt that non-wealthy Tulsans were being left out. I tried to explain how important getting the $$ in is at this early stage of the campaign. Hopefully we were able to mollify folks. We can always hope Senator Obama returns to Tulsa later on for an "affordable fundraiser," as it were.

One thing I discovered: The majority of the people at last night's meeting had supported either Howard Dean or Wesley Clark back in '04. So - make a point of reaching out to those who supported Dean or Clark. There's fertile ground there!
