Inside the Obama White House with Brian Williams to air on NBC Special

NBC News has special access to the White House and has strategically placed dozens of camera crews all over the White House. This is all an attempt to get a closer look of the daily occurences of the Obama administration. I don’t ever recall any other White House administration that allowed this. Only Brian Williams and his crew gets to go in and see what all the fuss is about. There have been some controversy over the White House Reality Show. If you really think about it, who wants a camera in their face from 5 am in the morning until you are done for the day. I think its a publicity stunt to show that Obama is getting stuff done. His promises on transparency in government has been taken a little too far. We don’t want to see your acting skills in front of the camera. We want to know what you are doing and have a say in what decisions are to be made on the topic. That was one of the premises you ran your campaign on. No more 1500 page documents sent out and approved 3 hours before voting. Stuff like that. I don’t want to see a reality show about the White House morning briefs, and what they eat for breakfast. This is either a tribute to the first Black President of the United States, or the most boring news special ever made. It’s going to be the White House version of The Office. From what I know about the special, there are several aides on camera typing at their desks, answering phone calls and doing general office work. Then there are interviews with certain people that are going to make everything sound nice and cheery, but there won’t be any dry office humor. I say watch at your own risk. The darn thing is a waste of time, but if you don’t have anything to do, it airs June 2, and the 3rd.

Fundraising Push

You've all probably seen the latest news from the Obama campaign that we're trying to beat the June deadline to post some great fundraising numbers. And, like all of you, I wanted to lend a helping hand.

1. 2006 Transparency bill = expose corrupt lobby $ that lobbyist give to politicians so we the people can either impeach them or not re-elect them

2. TECH PLAN = 2007 = http://www.USAspending.gov = expose all government spending so the citzens can see where their tax money goes

3. 2008 = SUNSHINE bill = SUNLIGHT FOUNDATION = http://www.sunlightfoundation.com/ = http://www.sunshineweek.org/sunshineweek/candidates = EXPOSE future spending. This is acomplished as Barack and his newly elected cabinet point out to WE THE PEOPLE , negative porkbarrel spending so we the people can rally against a certain senator or congress person or committee to stop it before it goes up for vote or support it if it is good for we the people = honest government finally controlled by WE THE PEOPLE. Who knows maybe one day in the future we won't need politicians as we the people stay involved in what is going on in all 3 branches of government and we use the computer to approve the direction of our country / government.

Barack will be holding weekly / monthly speeches, to WE THE PEOPLE, guiding them as to which negative earmark / porkbarrel spending should be stopped (removed from a future bill) by the people rallying together online before a bill with that earmark goes up for vote!

Obama has outlined an ambitious transparency plan that incorporates technology to "help connect government to its citizens and engage citizens in a democracy."

Among the proposals in Obama's plan to open government are: putting government data online in accessible formats; airing live webcasts of agency meetings; restoring scientific integrity; allowing people to track federal grants, contracts, earmarks and lobbyist contacts online; and allowing five days for public to review and comment on legislation online before its signed.

Past is Prologue

One of Obama's most visible Senate actions on the open government front was his co-sponsorship of the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act, which went into effect Jan. 1, 2008 with the launch of USAspending.gov, a Web site that gives people access to information on government contracts, grants and other awards.

As an Illinois state senator, Obama co-sponsored the Verbatim Record Bill, requiring public agencies to video or audio record closed door meetings, The First Amendment Center reported, noting the law was the first of its kind enacted by any state.

Obama is the only remaining candidate to have signed the Reason Foundation's Oath of Presidential Transparency, and, according to The Washington Post he is the only leading candidate to have released his income tax returns.

Here we are in the transitional month of June === the offices are changing, people are moving around, the Fellows are arriving....what are your greatest experiences of the primary season?

My favorite thing was re-registering Republicans and independents. And registering people in general. I re-registered a 72-year old male lifelong Republican, who is now a Democrat.

Obama volunteers were down at the PSU Farmers Market today registering voters and volunteers. Still lots of independents re-registering as Democrats. Really significant now that the (closed) primary is over.........

The Red Herrings that Boomerang in the Spring

This, from Eugene Robinson’s column, “Hillary’s Grim Scenario”, in today’s Washington Post

For anyone who missed it, Clinton was pleading her cause before the editorial board of the Sioux Falls, S.D., Argus Leader on Friday. Rejecting calls to drop out because her chances of winning have become so slight, she said the following: "My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. You know I just, I don't understand it."
The point isn't whether you take Clinton at her word that she didn't actually mean to suggest that someone -- guess who? -- might be assassinated. The point is: Whoa, where did that come from?

He later states:

It could be that any presidential campaign requires a measure of blind faith. But there's a difference between having faith in a dream and being lost in a delusion. The former suggests inner strength; the latter, an inner meltdown.

He concludes with

Clinton campaigns as if she knows she will leave some Democrats with bad feelings. That's the Clinton way: Ask forgiveness, not permission. But every day, as more superdelegates trickle to Obama's side, it becomes a surer bet that she will not win. She and her family enjoy good health and fabulous wealth. They'll be fine -- unless, while losing this race for the nomination, Hillary Clinton also loses her soul.

Instead of using Robinson’s approach, let’s analyze her statement from a more logical point of view and see where this gets us.

Divided They Stand

"Divided They Stand" is the title of a column by last-ditch Hillary supporter Paul Krugman in the today's NY Times. He starts out with

"It is, in a way, almost appropriate that the final days of the struggle for the Democratic nomination have been marked by yet another fake Clinton scandal - the latest in a long line that goes all the way back to Whitewater.

This one, in case you missed it, involved an interview Hillary Clinton gave the editorial board of South Dakota's Argus Leader, in which she tried to make a case for her continuing campaign by pointing out that nomination fights have often gone on into the summer. As one of her illustrations, she mentioned that Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June."

Later, Krugman states that

"Obama and his supporters ... should realize that the continuing demonization of Mrs. Clinton serves nobody except Mr. McCain."

Using MSNBC's number - 27 superdelegates to shut out Clinton

On March 28, over at Chris Weigant's blog, Chris asked his readers to place their bets (in quatloos) when Clinton would drop out of the Presidential race. Well, I've done pretty well so far. I predicted that Obama would surpass Clinton in Superdelegates before the West Virginia primary (got it right) and several of my delegate totals from the primaries were darn close (I didn't do so well on my original delegate estimate for Indiana). Also, I was only 1 day off for the John Edwards endorsement of Obama. My final prediction is Clinton drops out on June 16, just 31 days from now.

Although I believe there is a circumstance under which Barack can win PA tomorrow, it's a less than 25% CHANCE. It is much more lokely that Barack will suffer the ill tides of the "bitter" protest voter who feels frustrated that someone had the audacity to SAY the truth, rather than cover it up in some form of victimization or some rose-colored projection of a near term recovery. Nope. Tell people the truth (especially in the hope that they'll confront it and act on it) and they hit you in the mouth. Oh well, such is life. We'll move on. To victory. So let it be done. But it looks like it will be well into swimsuit season when we see it. At least the Dems will sport theirs. Don't think we'll see many Republicans backing McCain sporting 2 pieces any time soon...
