In your life time experience, has hope ever died? How does it feel when our hope is lost or shattered for a brisk moment due to a disappointment- whether we were turned down for a job that mean't everything; or just lost hope in our love life?

That empty feeling in the gut is horrible! Isn’t it? How can we live on a daily basis with no hope at all?

My country men have no hope! Sierra Leoneans and other Africans, help is on the way; do not give up. Keep trying, and find comfort in something, anything that can give you hope; but no “vein” hope.

Hope, life is full of hope, hope the pillow of life, but no vein hope.

The "boy (not) in the balloon" story reveals one thing and one thing only: the American mass media, especially the cable channels, including CNN and MSNBC, have forgotten what their purpose in life is: present the news. Not stupid, sensationalist nonsense out of TV land (the family in the Colorado balloon story starred in "Wifeswap") but significant events that might actually affect people's lives. How many 6-year-old boys died today because of violence or malnutrition or disease, around the world? Why did none of the news channels mention them? They weren't from a zany middle class family in a plush suburb of Colorado, perchance? Their father had not invented a flashy, shiny helium balloon that looked like a UFO? CNN are still plugging the story, except it is NOT a story--NOTHING happened! No child died, no one was even in danger. Yet the network, and to their shame MSNBC, cut away from Barack Obama's "town hall meeting in New Orleans in order to show sensational, but as it turns out completely empty and meaningless film of the shiny balloon. This, by the way, after the cable news channels had been incessantly plugging the line that Obama had not shown enough respect to NOLA because he was only spending 4 hours there. But as soon as a shiny object diverts them, the magpies at the cable news channels cut to the shiny UFO and away from Obama answering thoughtful questions about New Orleans' crisis and recovery. Who is showing disrespect for New Orleans, might I ask? A president who fulfills a promise to go to NOLA, even though, God only knows, he has enough things to occupy him, or the news channels, who can't be bothered to stick with the meeting when a balloon (which turns out to be empty) flashes through the Colorado sky? What is it about shiny vehicles (OJ’s SUV for instance) that acts like catnip for TV producers? CNN and MSNBC should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for being suckered into devoting their precious TV time to a non-event. If anyone thought that there was any integrity or intelligence left in the mass media in the USA, then today should have set them right. American news channels have become another form of infotainment, and have nothing to do with keeping the public informed about what they really need to know. Where, might I ask, were the stories about the six-year olds in New Orleans today suffering from poor education, lack of food, or simply lack of safety and prospects? But to report on THAT would have required some intelligence and effort, not the sort of thing, apparently, that CNN or MSNBC (let alone Fox) are interested in. A sad day for the fourth estate, and for democracy.

Then he released his program of New Generation of Students, and challenged them to be more productive in making a dent in future achievements. This program will pay students: $2500 for on the job training and other liabilities. The same bill in New Jersey, and the same proposal Omar Dyer's throwing out there with: The Next Generation of Leader's Program.

Now is that time where I think you shouldn't be afraid to Join Omar Dyer, and get with his program. The Next generation of Leaders program has been taken by the state of New Jersey, Leaders in America, and now the President of the United States.

You do get some fascinating arguments from the opponents of health care reform. There is, if you have not already seen it, Betsey McCaughey’s priceless discussion with Jon Stewart about the Democratic plot to pull the plug on grandma:

Tonight (August 21) on the Lou Dobbs Show on CNN (Kitty Pilgrim hosting), Sally Pipes was arguing that there really is no need for covering the uninsured, because there are really only about 8 million of them, not the 47 million the US census bureau thinks there are. That is highly contentious, but leaving that aside for the moment, I really have to admire her remarkably purist argument about why there was no need for the uninsured to be insured and her satisfaction, one might call it insouciance?, that if these people eventually needed treatment for a condition that could have been solved at an earlier stage but now had become life-threatening, they could just turn up at emergency rooms. Countering an argument from the sane representative of the need for everyone to have insurance, who reasoned that receiving preventative care for conditions before they became life-threatening was, in the long run both better for the person concerned and also for the system, because of the avoidance of the extra-high cost of emergency treatment, Ms. Pipes refuted this by citing what she said was a CBO claim that paying for preventative care created no savings for the health care system, but, on the contrary, was actually more expensive in the long run than the alternative of relying on people letting things develop into life-threatening crises.Now, this is in many ways a brilliant, if somewhat elliptical argument. On the face of it, this idea that preventative medicine is more expensive than waiting for medical conditions to become critical, might appear an odd claim. Intuitively, we would think that if you can catch a remediable medical condition early, like various cancers for instance, or diabetes, one can either cure the condition or provide medicine or treatment that avoids the worst consequences of the disease. Hence the expensive procedures of emergency treatment are avoided, the patient can live a healthier life, a less stressful one, because he or she is not burdened by the fear of not knowing what is wrong with him/her but afraid or unable to go to the doctor to find out and get reatment because of a lack of insurance, and is therefore happier as a result. Health and happiness, and avoidance of serious illness, usually, on average, also result in longer life, which one assumes is a good thing, right? But here is where the brilliance of Pipes’ argument comes in, no doubt backed by the CBO’s number crunchers, because if someone lives longer, and are not killed off by untreated, chronic conditions and the stress that goes with this situation, they have a higher likelihood of contracting other diseases associated simply with ageing. These old(er) people, according to the Pipes/CBO logic are now costing more than they would have done if they had not received preventative care in the first place! How inconsiderate of them, according to Pipesian logic! They are living longer and causing more cost, when they should have been dead by now, if only they had not had health insurance and preventative care foisted on them!In other words, the extra cost of preventative care must arise from the fact that it actually succeeds, statistically at least, in leading to a healthier populace and hence higher life expectancy, more old people to take care of. Now, a compassionate person who was really against “pulling the plug on grandma” and wanted, in fact, grandma to live to a ripe (and relatively healthy and happy) old age, might welcome this result of the provision of preventative health care as provided by (mandated) universal health insurance. It is true, it might cost more in the very long run, but are we not interested in health care reform that can actually make people healthier and extend their productive lives? Those, therefore, who argue against universal health insurance and the institution of universal preventative health care, on the grounds of ideology or just plain cost (like Ms. Pipes, apparently) are, when it comes down to it, wishing for grandma to die just a bit sooner so she does not cost so much to the system. These very same people, or their allies, are casting the Democrats as the one’s wanting to pull the plug, but their whole approach, their willingness to quote the CBO on this point of the “cost” of preventative care, appear to me, following this logic, to want grandma never to get to the point where there is a plug to pull in any case.

Am I being cynical, or is Ms. Pipes? Or, as I suspect, a bit like Ms. McCaughey, is she just too ideologically driven and short-sighted to see what she is actually saying? She might be aghast at this conclusion—but then she should not be quoting CBO figures whose (inhuman) objectivity, as with so many statistics, completely ignore the human, the moral, dimension, and the higher purpose of health care in the first place.

Real Change comes from the ground up. We need to get the Government out of our lives, to immediatelly repeal The Patriot Act, Military Commissions Act, FISA. We also need to start leaving Iraq NOW, and to close down ALL 58 bases there. We don't just need to get the combat troops out, we need ALL out, and do it responsibly. The longer we stay there, even if its' 50,000 like Obama says he wants to leave there for "non-combat" missions. Does anybody actually believe that these "non-combat" troops will be half soldiers or hold no weapons??? Of course not!!! The numbers would not matter if our country was occupied by 150,000 or 50,000 or even 10,000 foreign troops. We would be pissed off as hell and well should be!!! To create a better economy, we have to STOP THE SPENDING. What we are doing now by spending all this money and "creating jobs" is KILLING our economy. Think about this people, imagine if you get into debt, do you really think that you would get out of debt by buying a brand new house, car, or TV???? It's absolutely INSANE. So people have to wake up, read the Constitution, and start lobbying their local govt to follow the sacred document.

Fairness, Facts, and Fiction in the News

A friend of mine is frustrated with the lack of accuracy in media. 24-hour cable news/talk is interested more in sensationalism and entertainment than in providing "need to know" information. And it's hard to define what people really "need to know" in order to make decisions!

Here's what she said:

"The real problem with this discussion is that we are not distinguishing between information and entertainment. I believe that one of our corporate sins as Americans is that we have lost this distinction. As Christians we have a moral obligation to inform ourselves but we have no obligation to entertain ourselves. As a nation we have a moral obligation to demand that information be made available widely, consistently, and fairly. We ought not confuse t he F irst Amendment with some supposed “right” to be entertained by opinionated pundits who mimic our particular brand of hubris."

The right to free speech is protected by the Constitution. But at what point does free speech pollute our political process? And how can we work to get past the noise?

The President’s Honeymoon Never Started

Somebody once said the first 100 days of the presidency can be regarded as the President’s honeymoon, which I took that to mean with the media journalists in our country; well stating it simply “I don’t see that happening with our newly elected President.” Furthermore, when our President took office less than a month ago, negative journalism for the most part began.

Perhaps “negative” is a bit to strong and not the exactly the correct definition, perhaps the recently created word of “spin” is more befitting of what I see coming over the airways, which includes the online news services and television.

Whatever, my feelings are when I view the RSS banner headlines I subscribe to, from what I consider two leading sources of political news, and they’re casting our newly developing administration and the presidency in a negative light with over half of their articles devoted to day after day of negativeness then I feel absolutely justified in labeling them “negative.”

One provider is the Time Warner organization, which includes CNN and Time, while the other is Politico, which I often quote in my blogs when I find there “factual” reporting available. I desire news coverage which lets me decide my opinion on the story being covered, not the commentator’s or the author’s mostly slighted opinion.

As an example, I believe in President Obama’s Economic Stimulus package, but if I followed the supposedly good advice from everything I read from the two aforementioned agencies I’d have to write my congressional representatives and request their “no” votes on the package.

When we first began corresponding with Khalid Awan in 2007, we had no idea why he was serving time in U.S. federal prison. We soon discovered Awan was one of the first of thousands of Muslims taken prisoner in the post-9/11 U.S. "terror war." As the story began unfolding in our letters, we began to realize that this honest, humble and sincere man was not only innocent, but the ongoing injustice being done to him provides critical insight into the mindless, meanspirited, bureaucratic-yes-men idiocy fueling the illegal U.S. "war on terror" (and just about everything else that is going wrong in this country). At our insistence, Awan wrote his story and supplied us with whatever documents we requested. And now, after three months of cooperative efforts, the story of Khalid Awan can be told. We have come to know Awan as a peaceful man engaged in peaceful work who has been wrongfully accused, detained and repeatedly convicted of crimes he did not commit because he was a Muslim with international connections and an office in New York on 9/11. My name is Khalid Qayyam Awan. My rights have been eroded in the name of "national security." Since I am a Muslim, my story has been written, produced, directed, choreographed and staged by U.S. government officials.

The Department of Justice and the FBI have been under pressure by the Bush administration to find "terrorists" in this country and to preemptively convict them before they can strike at the U.S. Although there is good evidence that there are few, if any, potential terrorists in the Muslim communities of the United States, U.S. attorneys who are not able to find any real "terrorists," target, prosecute and convict innocent Muslims on phony or inflated criminal charges to show they are politically "loyal to the president," and to avoid being fired for political reasons, as recent news revelations strongly suggest. These prosecutions have destroyed families in a country that is renowned for its human rights activities around the world.

Background

I am a 46-year old Canadian citizen and native of Pakistan. Throughout my life I studied in Catholic Christian schools and read the Bible every morning. I received my Masters Degree in Political Science at the University of Karachi in Pakistan and I am one of the founding members of the Pakistan Human Rights Commission. As a result of my belief in humanity and equality, I moved to Canada in 1993, becoming a Canadian citizen in 1996. In Canada I worked as an immigration consultant and was a member of the Canadian Bar Association. As part of my business, I also had an office in New York, which is where I was on Sept 11, 2001.

October 2001

On October 25, 2001, U.S. government agents entered my house in Garden City, NY, without knocking and yelled at me to drop everything or they would shoot me. They forced me to lie on the ground while they handcuffed me and placed me under arrest.

They claimed they had received an anonymous tip that I was a material witness for the 9/11 World Trade Center terrorist attack. After my arrest, I was taken in front of New York Judge Michael Mukasey (current U.S. attorney general known for his Israeli sympathies). After a detailed investigation by the FBI and U.S. Naval Intelligence, I was put in front of a Grand Jury. The case was dismissed on November 6, 2001.

Charge #2

Before I was released from custody, on November 5, 2001, the U.S. government imposed new charges: "Conspiracy to Commit Fraud and Money Laundering." They alleged that I stole/misused the identity profiles of my clients, people who come to me seeking to obtain Canadian visas and citizenship in the U.S., although there was not a single complaint from any of my clients or any banks.

(Note: Journalist Dr. Paul Craig Roberts stated in his 12/11/06 column, America’s Injustice System is Criminal: "The criminal justice system today consists of a process whereby a defendant is coerced into admitting to a crime in order to escape more severe punishment for maintaining his innocence. Many of the crimes for which people are imprisoned never occurred").

Every defense attorney knows that today prosecutors can purchase testimony against a defendant by paying "witnesses" with money, dropping charges against them or reducing prison sentences to testify against defendants. Jurors tend to trust government prosecutors and are generally unaware that they will withhold exculpatory evidence and suborn perjury and bear false witness to obtain convictions.

Months went by. Then a year had passed and I was still "detained" without a trial for crimes I did not commit. My lawyer advised me to plead guilty. He said it was in my own best interests as I would be "facing 10 years on the money laundering charge" due to the current climate in New York courts and my being a Muslim and a native of Pakistan. By this time I had served 17 months in detention, so I pled guilty to $95,000 of fraud conspiracy, which carried a maximum sentence of 15 to 24 months. The plea agreement—release for time served—was not even honored and I was sentenced to five years, the sentence for approximately $2,400,000 in credit card fraud.

Appeal to Canada

In January, 2005, when I was finally able to apply for a "treaty transfer" to Canada. I learned from my case manager that my citizenship was listed in the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ (BOP) computer as "Pakistani" instead of "Canadian." All my Canadian documentation—passport, citizenship card, social insurance and health cards and Canadian drivers license—were in the possession of the FBI. I wrote the Canadian Consulate in Buffalo, NY, to request that they fix this problem so I could be transferred back to Canada. On March 30, 2005, the Canadian Consulate sent a letter to the jail to correct my citizenship status, but the FBOP ignored the request and did not correct the computer.

I realize now that the BOP intentionally left my citizenship as "Pakistani" to make me administratively ineligible for transfer to Canada and keep me in the U.S. while the U.S. government prepared new charges against me.

A year later, six weeks before my scheduled release date, I was transferred from Allenwood FCI to the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, NY, supposedly in preparation for my deportation back to Canada. I signed the immigration deportation papers, which incidentally, contained my correct citizenship status. Later I learned the Allenwood FCI warden had been given a summons from Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) Lawrence Ferazani in January, 2006, requesting for me to appear in federal court in Brooklyn, NY, on February 15, 2006.

Family threatened

Once in Brooklyn, on January 31, 2006, I phoned my family in Montreal. I learned that Officer Buttazzoni from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) had contacted my sister regarding the whereabouts of my wife. He was told that she had returned to Pakistan. Buttazzoni left his phone number with my brother-in-law, telling him to please tell my wife to call him back immediately. She called Buttazzoni several times and left messages on his voice mail, after which Buttazzoni told my brother-in-law to tell her not to call him again.

Then on February 17, 2006, I was brought by AUSA Ferazani to an office in New York to be interrogated by the FBI without an attorney present. I was told by AUSA Farazani that if I did not talk they would arrest my sisters in Montreal and my wife, who had returned to Pakistan. He said, "We just have to make a call."

I was surprised and scared that he knew where my family lived. He stated, "If you don’t tell me [what I want to know] I can recommend lethal injection to the court and call the press and tomorrow morning you will be in every newspaper as a big terrorist."

Another federal agent told me that if I did not cooperate, they would turn me over to the Indian government, an enemy of Pakistan, which would treat me as an enemy.

At this time I was certain that my family was in danger because they were living in countries that work closely with U.S. law enforcement and intelligence agencies. After seeing my liberty evaporate when I was cleared of being a material witness in the World Trade Center tragedy, I had every reason to believe that the overarching power of the government would secure my family members’ arrests and inflict severe punishment on them. I strongly believed the RCMP was working in collaboration with the FBI to harass me to admit to charges of crimes that I did not commit. I thought about how the RCMP officials had played a role in other discrimination cases that included the interrogation and torture of Canadian citizens Mahrar Arar, Abdullah Almalki and Ahmed EI Matti, whose only "crimes" were being Canadian Muslims.

Because I felt I had no other choice, I signed the Miranda Rights waiver forms the agent gave me, waiving my right to an attorney’s presence during questioning and spoke with agents of the U.S. government on Feb. 17 and 20, 2006.

February 17, 2006: Interrogation…and bribe

I was pushed to the edge during this interrogation. Even though I could not answer all of their questions, I was determined to provide anything they wanted, even if the questions made no sense. I tried to give answers so they would be pleased and not give me the death penalty or harm my family.

During this interrogation, the agents offered me the opportunity to work for them in an "under cover capacity" abroad in Pakistan and Canada. They wanted me to testify against a group of Sikh people, on fabricated statements, based on my association with them from when I lived in Pakistan. I refused. So they told me to keep in mind that they wanted me to testify against people who are of the Sikh religion from India, an enemy of Pakistan and, because I am a Muslim, I should not have any concern for them.

I said, "But they are human beings! If they did something wrong and I knew about it, I would be more than happy to help the law, but you are asking me about something which I know nothing about."

The agents waited a couple weeks and then started asking me again, this time through my attorney. Upon my continued refusal, Officer Buttazzoni in Montreal again approached my family. I told them to get an attorney and not to go to his office without a legal written notice from him. They followed my advice and the RCMP stopped calling them—but not before the FBI was able to create a self-incriminating statement based on "evidence" they secured during their interrogation of me without the presence of my attorney. As a result of this, prosecutors were able to go in front of a Grand Jury and indict me, based on my own (fabricated) statements, prepared by federal agents without my signature.

Third charge March 16, 2006

On March 15, 2006, I completed the term of my imprisonment and was to be deported back to Canada. Before I could even go out onto the street I was arrested a third time and charged with "Providing Material Support to a Foreign Terrorist," and "Money Laundering to Support Terrorism," for supposedly providing support to the Sikh organization Khalistan Commando Force (KCF), through a man of the Sikh religion, Mr. Paramjit Singh Panjwar (PMJ), whom I met once when visiting Pakistan.

These charges emerged while I was still in prison and had no capability to provide KCF with any kind of support. It was difficult for me to get enough finances together to pay my legal fees while I was in prison for five years and I could not launder any money because I did not have any. In the plea agreement I signed for my previous "money laundering" charge, it is mentioned that no further money laundering charges would be brought against me, so this was double jeopardy and a violation of the 5th Amendment of the Constitution.

August to December, 2006: administrative detention

I appeared in court and pled "not-guilty" for my second "superseding indictment" on August 2, 2006. Upon my unwavering refusal to work for the government on their fabricated statements against the Sikh people, FBOP officials placed me into the Segregation Housing Unit (SHU), for 210 days of segregation and isolation despite the fact that I was rated as needing low security on the government’s "Male Custody Classification Form."

Segregation was continuous torture as we were not given basic amenities or respect and the building was cold and leaky. I went on a hunger strike for four days and after that I filed various complaints with the FBOP higher authorities, but no action was taken.

October 2006

After my refusal to work for the government on their case against "two individuals" they had identified as "potentially to be joined in this matter, but at this stage we don’t have enough evidence to charge," the government went to them and indicted them and, giving them a lot of benefits, prepared them to testify against me.

During my pre-trial hearing, the first two counts of my indictment were dismissed due to lack of facts and figures. Within two weeks, AUSA indicted me again, probably to cover up for their huge embarrassment. This hastily drawn up indictment was also full of factual errors and creative legal theories.

This time, in the bill of particulars/indictment, AUSA Farazani included the names of the following participants as co-conspirators in this "conspiracy."

1) Khalid Awan—me
2) Paramjit Singh Panjwar—Leader of Sikh Khalisto Commando Force (KFC), residing in Pakistan (not indicted).
3) Gurbax Singh—Indicted as co-conspirator #1
4) Baljinder Singh—Indicted as co-conspirator #2
5) Jatinder Singh—Residing in Texas (not indicted).
6) Dr. Pritpal Singh—Residing in California (not indicted).

Except for me, all the "co-conspirators" are elected leaders of the Sikh religion, a group of people known in Pakistani history books as the worst killers and rapists of the Pakistani nation, having killed, raped, burned and cut into pieces a hundred thousand Pakistani Muslim men, women, girls and infants during the world’s largest migration from India to Pakistan in 1947.

Sikh Background (a little history)

To better understand the game the U.S. government was playing with me and the Sikh people, a brief history is necessary. The mid-1980s to the mid-1990s was a decade of violent political opposition in Punjab, an area divided between India and Pakistan. The pattern of unlawful and indiscriminate arrests and killings during that time has left a lasting legacy of "catch and kill" police practices in the state. In the early 1980s, the Indian army attacked the Sikh Holy place called the Golden Temple in the Punjab State of India. About 10,000 civilian lives were lost while hundreds of people were detained without charge or trial and thousands of "disappearances" and extrajudicial executions were carried out by the police.

As a result, thousands of Sikhs fled to various countries for asylum. Many of the Sikhs who were living near Pakistan took refuge inside Pakistan, having the advantage of speaking the same language and the area being home to established holy places where Sikhs from all over the world came annually to perform their pilgrimage to the Pakistan side of the Punjab state. Pakistan is like a Vatican for the Sikhs, because the Sikh religion was started there and is the birthplace of their holy guru.

Paramjit Singh Panjwar (PMJ)

Among these Sikhs, PMJ also took refuge after members of his family were arrested and killed by the Indian police. In Pakistan he started producing videos about the attacks and killings of Sikhs by the Indian police, and started printing and distributing literature on the Sikh problems at the hand of the Indian government. He also started broadcasting a daily radio program and running various charities for Sikh families in India and Pakistan whose bread-winning family members had been killed by the Indian government.

I met PMJ during a visit to Pakistan when he was living next to my brother-in-law and I invited him to a wedding. He wrote his phone number down for me on a piece of paper. He also wrote down the number for Baljinder Singh, his friend in New York, because he was a community advocate for the Sikh people who might refer clients to me for immigration purposes. I kept the number, but did not call him.

The FBI had been after Baljinder Singh ever since he delivered a speech in front of the White House at the "Sikh Million March" on Washington in 2000. The FBI had called him for interrogation from 2000 to 2006, but was unable to arrest him. When they interrogated me on February 17, 2006, they told me they needed me to testify in court that the Pakistani government was taking care of terrorists in Pakistan and New York. It was Baljinder Singh, and Gurbax Singh, a close relative of PMJ, that they wanted me to testify against, and since they found his and PMJ’s phone numbers during their search of my office in New York after my arrest in 2001, they deputized their paid Sikh informant, Harjeet Singh, into my unit at MDC in 2006.

Harjeet told me he would be released from federal custody in the next six months and he wished to visit Pakistan for the annual Sikh pilgrimage there. He asked me if I knew some Sikhs in Pakistan who might take care of him during his visit. I replied that I did know Paramjit Singh Panjwar, who was there on asylum and introduced them over the phone.

The FBI then went to Baljinder and Gurbax Singh and convinced them to testify that I had transferred $4000 (two $2,000 transactions allegedly conducted between 1998 and 2002) from them to Pakistan on behalf of PMJ. In exchange for this, they dropped the charges they had against them and promised amnesty from the Indian government (for armed attack on Indian police) and U.S. green cards for them and their families.

PMJ has not been indicted by the U.S. nor convicted by the Indian courts of anything. No effort has been spent for his extradition by U.S. "terror war" ally, Pakistan, though the Pakistani government has, according to AI, handed over 700 Muslim citizens to the U.S. government.

According to my attorneys, no American citizen of the Christian faith nor of the Sikh faith has ever been arrested for providing material support to the KCF, even though the KCF is a Sikh organization that draws its support from members of the Sikh community.

I, on the other hand, a Canadian citizen of Pakistan origin and Muslim faith, on Sept 12, 2007, am the only person in the U.S. to be convicted of terrorism, on fake, fabricated and government purchased testimonies of the Sikh’s religious people, for transferring $4000. I was convicted and sentenced on three counts:

1) Conspiracy to provide material support (14 years)
2) Providing material support to foreign terrorists (10 years)
3) Money laundering to support terrorism (14 years)
Total: 38 years to run concurrently (14 more years in prison).
Jail

The government sent me to FCI Terre Haute Prison in Indiana, a "medium" prison with the exception of one isolated unit, called the "Guantanamo Bay on American Soil,"—Unit D, the "dog unit."

According to the history of this jail, this unit was built in the 1930s for Cuban people, after which it was used for convicted members of the Ku Klux Klan. Then it was used for death row inmates until its "permanent closure." It was re-opened with minor repairs for Muslim inmates because they are worse than death-row inmates—not because of their "crimes" but because of their religious beliefs.

We are denied many privileges according to BOP policy because we are Muslims. Visits must be through glass and phone calls and outgoing mail are routed through Washington D.C. The buildings are old and leaking so it’s cold in the winter, flying insects in the summer and air circulation is poor year round. Lead is seeping out of the walls and many inmates suffer chronic joint pain.

The government is trying to goad us to act violently so they can justify their claim that we are dangerous, but they have failed. According to the jail guards this Muslim unit is the most peaceful they have ever seen in any prison anywhere and they ask to be allowed to work here.

I agree that those guilty of terrorism should be prosecuted, but innocent people should not be targeted. Locking us down in this dirty, old, cold, leaking building and prohibiting us from hugging our children and restricting our calls to them will never bring peace to this country or make this nation safer.

To the American people:

I have been singled out, isolated and discriminated against because of my race and religion. I am being held here in detention against my will for crimes that I never committed. I am not a terrorist and I should not be treated like one.

The AUSA succeeded in getting a verdict against me from the jurors in December, 2006, with the help of the media glamorization of the "war on terror." I have been convicted of guilt by association; of making the FBI angry and vengeful by refusing both to work for them abroad in an undercover capacity and to testify against members of the Sikh religion using their fabricated statements; and of being a Muslim and native of Pakistan.

Isn’t it time that all humans are equal? Isn’t it time that everyone is free to choose his faith? Are human rights protected by law? We hear this, but we would like to see it – especially in this country called the United States of America that claims itself across the world as a champion of human rights.

Building a Foundation!

As this nation strives for new leadership, we have to be patient on the direction we are going. We have been in a 10 year -- uncontested balance of wasteless government. We just knocked down the building of greed. We are know working on digging up that bad under-rooted foundation. We are now laying the brick works of a new foundation. A stable ground where, Government Intervention was need to stop the ways of greed.

People are asking for help, and they want it right now. I say: let's stop looking at the figures on numbers in the budget. When you tear down a bad building to build a new one it's going to cost you plenty. When you have everyone with their hands out, you need to make them wait. No more blank checks, and worry later on projects. We need people that's going to give you an itemized plan on everything the money will be spent on. Page by Page, Price by Price, company investment with company confirmation (Meaning a letter head on expenses): That's how you lay out the foundation of a business. A Business needs to grow on ideas, and not money to create ideas. Yes, there's loopholes in business opportunities. Yet, we can't create martial law on the next administration. We are throwing money around like it grows on trees.

I'm running for public office because the problems we face are too great. Everyone I have talked to claims that my skills in leadership, and my skills in knowledge on Government can lead this state back to the glory days. They said I need to wait 4 years, and get experience. We can't wait 4 more years of do nothing, everything thrown at the wall on election day. Or 4 year proposal that just happens to come about on election week. The hidden scandals with political pundits getting back for losing. We need an economic Governor: where cutting spending in Education won't Be the only source to save money. Where raising property taxes won't be the only out source to stimulate an economy. Or giving small rebates, while inflation rise, can't be the only tax supplement to give an economic boom in down spots.

I plan to give you 21 century governing for 21 century problems. I plan to make all cities, and county records on bills exposed on the internet. Our problems are not tide to the melt down on Wall Street. Our problems came about because of the non-over sight to the inflation happening on Main Street, or People's Street. While you get sweetened deals, the price of living is on the rise. Wages are on the verge of collapsing. I'm tired of these collectors using greed to profit deals. I'm tired of politicians nickname becoming Scandals. I'm tired of dirty attack ad, or out of character name calling, stealing votes -- and lack of dive to turn out the vote. I'm tired of if you're with this party you can't side with the ideas of the other. I'm tired of the all or nothing approach, or what have you done for me lately. The, you need experience to lead! You need to be in the system to lead.

The problems we face today and the direction our leaders are looking into is not the vision of Barack Obama. We can bring real change into New Jersey, and here's how. With the T.A.R.P. Program from the 700 billion dollar bailout: Obama created a EDA board in New Jersey. Well, we Need a leader from Obama's camp that understands how to fill in the systems need. Economic Development Authority will be in charge of bonds. The same type of bond plan that I proposed -- which will work with Omar Dyer, which is me at the controls. You need too know when to spur a down turn in the state economy. The bonds will give a small relief. We need people to man power these jobs. This will allow small business to get the information need to man power their business. That's how an economy grows. What my opponents propose are cuts to education, and raising taxes. My opponents are looking at figures and running around with their heads cut of. We need a leader that will solve problems on a month to month basis, year to year -- with a day by day approach. Like solving Health Care, I believe the more people you have working the less health care will cost. That's why it's important to get people back to work. Then there's rent and mortgage problems: I plan to eliminate property tax, and implant a no increase flat rent -- eminent domain free law for seniors over 60. This is the best way to recycle the Medicad System, by allowing our seniors to have more cash in their hands. They can't balance rent / mortgages, and have food / energy, health care cost rise on a limited budget. With the way we have inflated the economy a pension can't retire you, and Social Security will only tease you. We need to make sure that when you retire / you retire. That don't mean you retire from a middle class job, to join the kids at the retail store. That's what I'm going to bring to Trenton.

My Job creation plan will cost more at the start to create the foundation, but as the years go through and you allow the system to grow. We can save more money than any competitive state. This is why I'm running for Governor. So I sask you: Do age give you front running rights to lead. Look at the other plans, then look at mine. If you want to get out of the ditch my age shouldn't hold back a leader your tax dollars created.

The Oscillating Pendulum

The historic election is over and the new administration is in the process of recruiting members for key positions.

It is still important to reflect on the role of media and news organization in this electoral process.

Extreme media bias towards one candidate and overwhelmingly condescending against another caused a great deal of frustration, anger and disappointment among the electorate.

The anti-media sentiments reverberated all over the cyberspace.

Media hype was intense during the Democratic Primary election.

Since I was vigorously involved during that time, I have great memories that will remain part of me for a long time.

There were several incidents but some of them have a greater impact on individuals, more severely than others do.

Mainly due to the smear tactics and negative attacks hurled on people like me entering the political campaign for the first time as surrogates, representatives or grass root supporters.

One particular incident is worth the spotlight because it is about the media personalities conducting themselves as the world authority in all matter especially the political race such as the Presidential election.

Ironically, in this Presidential election they were repeatedly wrong with both Democratic and Republican nominees.

Why?

They followed the conventional wisdom and failed to see or accept new possibilities and developments.

Only to steer course once the tide turned in a different direction sweeping anything and everything on the way.

The spotlight is precisely on MSNBC.

The network that took lot of heat from the public and rightfully so, for being excessively in favor of Obama Campaign in an unprecedented appeasement of the candidate then, Senator Barack Obama.

It is noteworthy that MSNBC initially rejected the candidate Senator Barack Obama against their preferred candidate, Senator Hillary Clinton.

Likewise, the venerable New York Times endorsed Senator Hillary Clinton way back on January 25, 2008 as the “IDEAL COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF.” and

Emphasizing that President-elect Barack Obama was not qualified in that respect,

Quoted by the recent Nobel Laureate Paul Krugman through national and international telecast on CNN.

I was devastated to note the hasty decision by a leading and the most respectable news organization such as New York Times.

Immediately, I made my first and only contact with the cable media outlet, Free Speech and World Link Television expressing my emotion on the endorsement.

Here is extract of the email titled The Moment of Truth sent to Amy Goodman of Free Speech Television on January 25, 2008, 12.22P.M PST , in that context:

Senator Clinton made many overtures in her recent T.V talk show appearances that I should go away and abandon the Obama campaign to suppress the Iraq war issue finally.

The impression I have is,

If Senator Obama becomes the nominee, there is absolutely no turning back for him as he would win the general election.”

In reality, what exactly happened prior to our President-elect Barack Obama establishing himself as a formidable candidate in the election is attention worthy.

First, my personal experience with MSNBC goes back to the days when the incumbent administration laid out the strategy to sell the unpopular Iraq war to the public and the United Nations.

I happened to be one of the unfortunate victims of mandatory public opinion survey superficially conducted by the administration to gain public support for the illegal invasion of Iraq.

This matter verified and confirmed truthful by the Institute for Public Policy, a non-profit organization, following the claim in my blog post during the Democratic Primary election.

With the relentless pro-Iraq war rally from networks such as MSNBC and FOX, the administration successfully launched their mission.

Although, there were other major networks equally involved in drumming their support for the Iraq war…

MSNBC displayed no qualms in abruptly eliminating dissent like the popular and visibly democratic, none other than their own talk show host, Mr. Phil Donahue.

My first unpleasant experience with MSNBC is regarding the anti-Iraq war message conveyed to the administration in response to the mandatory survey.

In my statement, I clearly emphasized the blunder by the administration on their commitment to wage war against Iraq and,

The consequences ensuing in terms of loss of lives, economic costs, national reputation and everything else that followed the disastrous war.

The born again liberal MSNBC demonized and targeted me as anti-patriotic with spam mail flooding my Inbox.

Further, the obscene materials via virus corrupted my database, forcing me to abandon the hard disk for a new one.

It was nothing short of homegrown terrorism for my anti-war position.

Electability Factor:

The voters should focus on the electability factor when casting the vote in the primaries for their respective candidates.

The candidate, who can eventually lead the Democratic Party to victory in the general election in November 2008, will be the ideal nominee.

There will be various issues discussed and debated between the two parties during the general election.

Given the track record of the Republican Party in the general election, the Democratic Party would be well positioned with a candidate voting against the Iraq war.

Senator Barack Obama had consistently opposed the Iraq war.

He voted for the funding of the Iraq war to protect the interest and security of our brave young men and women in harm’s way and enable Iraq stabilize as a sovereign nation ultimately leading to the withdrawal of our troops.

The illegitimate Iraq war has been a major catastrophe for our national economy, security, credibility to deal with International crisis, and our image as the leader of the new world.

The Republican Party nominee voting for the Iraq war could be challenged and held accountable by the Democratic Party nominee voting against the war.

The victory strategy for the Democratic Party in the general election should be on the premise of Iraq war to honor the sacrifice by brave young men and women who lost their lives and all those currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The victory for Democratic Party would then truly represent the ‘real change’ against the ’status quo’ or the establishment.

To emphasize again, the blog post created enormous outrage with the Clinton campaign bitterly complaining about my attempt to influence the election negatively on that date.

As usual, mainstream media lend support to the power and establishment expresses their reaction in a manner to warn a private citizen like myself to stay off the campaign trail.

The Situation Room, hosted by Mr. Wolf Blitzer, on CNN specifically advised me by referring to me as,

The “woman of color” to cease my campaigning for the candidate then, Senator Barack Obama.

The Nevada Primary was won by Senator Hillary Clinton.

President-elect Barack Obama had the caucus victory.

The MSNBC coverage on Saturday, January 19, 2008, the day Nevada results was declared, is evidence to the outburst of a media commentator against a private citizen.

Chris Matthews, in particular admonished me directly by wagging his finger and in uttermost condemnation of my interference in the Presidential election.

He said, “This is not a horse race for betting. It is a serious Presidential race.

Individuals with no knowledge or experience should stay out of political campaigns.”

It was a clear indication that individuals like me have no place in politics or public forum.

The sentiment was shared by another MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell who initially tried to remain objective during the discussion with Clinton aid about that particular blog post that morning.

However, she later on made a bizarre remark about a possible substance abuse by me because of my daring attempts to envision a future with an African American Presidency.

Only, if Andrea Mitchell would have played a similar role in critiquing her spouse and the ex-Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan,

Equally responsible for neglecting the warnings of the economic turmoil that nearly brought the domestic and international financial markets on the brink of collapse,

The recent bailouts may not have been necessary.

Thankfully, we are living in a technology driven age, where such incidents cannot possibly be buried in a time capsule with a hope of never being found until it becomes irrelevant.

All these blatant attacks and innuendoes were to demoralize me and debilitate my effort in spreading the message of our movement.

I owe my passion, commitment and drive to get further involved in the campaign to my children especially my eleven-year-old child.

He encouraged me to stand up to partisan politics and send a strong message to commentators like Chris Matthews, Andrea Mitchell and the likes,

That, ordinary people can do extraordinary things in life.

In fact, he was targeted as well with a nickname sidekick by the President-elect Barack Obama’s opponents for his exceptional role in exploiting the web technology with the publication of my blog posts.

My son’s advice to me was, not to rest until Senator Barack Obama is elected "The President" Barack Obama.

I am glad and proud of my son’s advice to fight against the odds given the extreme stressful situation at that time.

Surely, children have a better sense of rationality enabling them to behold a different vision for the world.

They realize the burden on them with respect to the national debt, credibility and financial security as future taxpayers of the economy.

The Countdown by Keith Olbermann targeted the American idol contestant Sanjaya Malakar and

Sadistically mocked him almost on a daily basis to survive competition with condescending remarks through critic like Maria Melito.

Maria Melito in her brutal attack against Sanjaya Malakar claimed that the reason for Sanjaya to gain unprecedented votes was because…

“The people of his ethnicity i.e. India, voting for him never had anyone rise to the hall of fame in history.”

Sadly, such comment reflected ignorance as anyone born on Planet Earth, should know the ancient Indus valley civilization which is India is not new to fame and wisdom.

The land in South East Asia is the origin and birth place of celestial beings like the Holy Lord Krishna, Holy and Graceful Gautama Buddha and sentient beings of the twentieth century such as Mahatma Gandhi –

I could not agree more with the affirmation.

I hope Chris Matthews and others learned a lesson or two from this historic political event.

When Change occurs, it happens all around much to the dismay of those consumed with fallacy and egocentrism regardless of the empire they reign.

The mainstream, far left and right media as well as some news organization with an exception of cable network like –

“The Daily Show with Jon Stewart”, “The Colbert Report” and “The Late Night Shows”,

Failed to meet the journalistic standards of objectivity and professionalism required in the presentation of views and analysis of any events particularly a Presidential election or for that matter, serious missions like the war.

The role of MSNBC and FOX in their relentless bashing of the candidates from both political aisles successfully drove the viewers to the cyberspace in search of…

Truth and Transparency desperately sought by people of the human race.

Whether it is young Sanjaya Malakar reaching for the stars or young Senator from the State of Illinois, President-elect Barack Obama successfully taking a shot at the highest office on land,

Their audacity of hope was challenged with rhetoric filled with racial slur, negative attacks and divisive politics to deny them the spotlight.

It is admirable that both individuals displayed a decorum signifying unity and poise seen unlike before in dealing with excessive criticism from the entities exhibiting power in the corporate media and Public office.

United States is a nation of immigrants from all over the world.

Any social progress to the satisfaction of all those feeling disfranchised is attainable only if the media and the elected officials recognize their share of responsibility in the service to democracy.

Further, the author of the cited article, Mr. Victor Davis Hanson, concluded with the following passage:

“Obama and his giddy Democratic majority sound like they think they will now be novel exceptions to these iron laws of politics, as if they really believe their hype that they are the “change” we have been waiting for, with cosmic power to stop the planet from heating and the seas from rising.

But the only real difference from the past old politics is that the present avatars of “hope and change” apparently don’t believe that the age-old adage - “The more things change, the more they remain the same” - will really apply to them as well.”

It is doable by the ordinary human power to respect life in general and act responsibly for their survival now and in the future.

Failing that,

Perhaps the cosmic power could influence the resisting human nature to preserve and protect the ecological balance necessary for the sustenance of the planet.

As for the age-old adage referenced above applying to the present avatars of ‘Hope and Change”,

It entirely depends on the agents of change and their target.

The age-old adage applies to those involved in cosmetic change rather than fundamental change, the ultimate goal and mission of the present avatars of “Hope and Change.”

Cosmetic change is delusional and beneficial for short-term gains affecting a selective few, hence it yields “more of the same” result.

Whereas, fundamental change target the philosophy of the institution as the sovereign power and,

Therefore, it is real, long lasting and universal.

"It is my hope that Congress will pass this legislation during this week's lame-duck session so that we can stop scam artists and profiteers from maligning this historic event," Senator Feinstein added.

The bill would make it unlawful to sell or attempt to sell tickets to the presidential inaugural swearing-in ceremony. It also would be illegal to create a fraudulent ticket or forge a ticket to the inauguration. Those who violate the law would face fines of up to $100,000 and imprisonment for up to one year.

Tickets to the 56th Inaugural Ceremonies are provided free of charge and are distributed through members of the 111th Congress and the President-elect and Vice President-elect. The day after the Election last week, CNN asked its viewers how they felt about the fact that Democrats will now control all 3 branches of government.

Problem is, Democrats won't.

Dems may have the House and Senate and the Presidency. But those are only 2 branches - the executive and legislative. (And don't even get me started on the filibuster rule & Joe Lieberman in the Senate and how that stuff effects control of that body.)

The third branch is the judicial. And I challenge anyone to factually prove that Democrats will control that branch, especially given that the GOP has controlled federal judicial appointments for about 24 of the last 36 years.

Check your Constitution, CNN - articles I and II, as I recall.

This is the title of an article by Harold Evans in The Guardian on November 1, 2008. He resorts to the bias he decries in his one-sided column. I have reproduced it below in its entirety, along with my annotations {…} . Phrases that I comment upon are in boldface.

It's fitting that the cynicism "vote early and vote often" is commonly attributed to Chicago's Democratic boss, mayor Richard Daley, who famously voted the graveyards in 1960 to help put John Kennedy in the White House. In this 2008 race, it's the American media that have voted very early and often. They long ago elected the star graduate of Chicago's Democratic machine, Barack Obama. {Obama is a hardly a “graduate“ of the machine. What about Harvard Law, Columbia, etc.?}

I am not talking of editorials in newspapers, though Obama has the preponderance of the endorsements over John McCain. Obama certainly deserves the credit for recruiting impressive advisers and running a more efficient campaign machine than any one in the US's political history.

What's troubling to anyone old-fashioned enough to care about standards in journalism is the news coverage in mainstream media. Forget the old notions of objectivity, fairness, thoroughness, and so on. CNN Refusing to Air Obama's Message

I was listening to CNN this afternoon (Wednesday, Oct 29, 2008) when the anchor gave a reason for not accepting Sen. Obama's 30-minute message. The claim was that since they are a news organization it wasn't fair to agree to air the message. Then an ad came on for Larry King Live right after this claim. The ad stated that Sen. McCain would be on at 9:00 PM to give his take on Sen. Obama's message.

So on the one hand they wouldn't let the Obama campaign buy a 30-minute time slot, and on the other CNN will provide Sen. McCain with free time to discuss the message they wouldn't carry. Some impartial news organization! Gee I think I'll watch Fox News.

SOOO I probably didn't get tickets. And I'm seriously bummed.

I had a huge plan with my other die-hard democratic friend and my mom to go downtown and see history made... Does Chicago even have a place where 1mil. people can meet peacefully? I'm assuming that this kind of thing should have taken weeks/months of planning... But if we want the Olympics, we're going to have to get used to this kind of thing.

My e-mail remains silent. Except for the "Election Night wait list entry received" notice.

But I'm still not looking forward to breaking the news to my friend, and getting stuck at home. I might work at the local voting place... but then I can't watch CNN as the results come in! Decisions, decisions...

Did I mention how much of a political junkie I am? Caucus season was like summer vacation for me. I loved tracking poll results every other week or so. I even figured out how CNN's magic touch-screen worked. Really!

Sigh. Still bummed, though.

(CNN) — John McCain does not appear to be making up ground in Ohio, the key battleground state that is crucial to keeping his White House hopes alive.

According to CNN's latest poll of polls of the state, the Arizona senator now trails Obama by 6 points there, 50 percent to 44 percent. That gap is two points wider than it was Monday and double what it was one week ago.

No Republican has won the presidency without carrying Ohio, and barring a major upset in another big state, the state's 20 electoral votes are a must win for McCain. The Republican presidential candidate is expected to spend two full days there later this week.

The latest Ohio poll of polls consists of recent surveys from LA Times/Bloomberg (October 25-27), Reuters/Zogby (October 23-26), and CNN/Time/ORC (October 19-21). CNN Poll of Polls do not have a margin of error.Meanwhile, a new poll of polls in Florida shows a similar story. The Arizona senator trails Obama by 4 points there, 49 percent to 45 percent. That gap is 3 points higher than it was earlier today and is largely due to a newly released survey from LA Times/Bloomberg showing McCain down 7 points in the state. The Florida poll of polls also includes surveys from Suffolk University and Reuters/Zogby.

I find it really hard to believe that we can create cell phones that do everything short of driving your car, yet some how we can't seem to manage which voters are valid and which are not. HMMMMM, I smell a fixed election?

I am a republican, but I stand behind Barack Obama 100%. I strongly believe he is what America stands for, and he understands the real people on the street.

a hunch about Palin...

Way back, when McCain picked Palin, I conjectured that she had been "bought" by the campaign. I was thinking that McVain figured he was gonna lose and he "hired" her ( bought her) to stimulate the base and lure in the disgruntled Hillary voters. Ever since then, I've been saying she was his Political Viagra. LOL!

Anyway, I have always thought that she was told that being McCain's running mate would guarantee her political future, and she could have a lot of things in the way of perks, in exchange for firing up the base. McVain figured that if he lost, no biggie, she'd be gone. And if he won, he figured that he'd be able to wing it with her, and hand her off to his staff, while he engaged Lieberman as surrogate VP.

There's no question she initially fired up the base. She definitely didn't seem to get many of the Hillary voters, however.

I think she was also told that she'd have a lot more influence as VP, if she did her best to perform as required, and McVain somehow managed to get elected. That would account for her thinking that there were many more responsibilities involved with being VP, than there actually are. Far be it from her to think of looking in the Constitution, where the relatively few duties and privileges of VP are all laid out in plain language.

As the negatives against Palin continue to grow exponentially, and McVain's prospects of winning shrink daily, Palin is realizing that her political future is seriously at risk. She's now fighting for her own survival, while at the same time, continuing to nurture her vain illusions of ascending to the Vice Presidency, and beyond. She honestly believes she's qualified to hold the highest office in the land, even as she politically bungee jumps closer and closer to the ground.

She is now a liability and an huge embarrassment to the campaign, and to McVain in particular. He can't wait to get this over with. He cares very much what people think of him. It is excruciating for him to have his reputation, honor, and integrity, such as it was, rapidly disintegrate into a steaming pile of dung. He absolutely hates being the butt of jokes, no matter how well he seems to take it.

So, this news of Palin's $150K wardrobe and all the other perks she's getting, fits in pretty well with the picture of her being used, bribed, and basically poised for dumping at McVain's earliest convenience. It doesn't matter any more whether people or the press are good to her - McVain has realized that he's going down in flames. But he wants to make sure it looks like Palin is the reason for his failures, so he doesn't care if any of the negative stuff about her continues to sink his ship. The press is backing up this image; calling Palin "the biggest drag on the campaign" and blaming her for the continued downward slide of McCain's poll numbers.

It wouldn't surprise me if he actually had known that there were a lot of skeletons in her closet when he picked her. At the point he picked her, his ratings were taking a nosedive. He was not on good terms with his staff or the Republican Party, apparently due to their denial of Lieberman as his first pick for VP. He clearly lashed out at everyone, including his supporters and donors, by picking Palin in an openly impulsive act of defiance. McVain calculated that, if he wasn't able to resurrect or maintain his campaign with doses of Palin Viagra, he could bring the skeletons out to effectively put his campaign out of its misery. Now that he can't ignore the train wreck that his campaign has become, the skeletons come marching out, one by one. "It's all Palin's fault" he can say. He certainly never did - and doesn't now - give a damn about her political future.

Today, Chuck Todd (CNN) was talking about how he observed no apparent chemistry between Palin and McVain. He was talking about how mystified he was by this. [These guys need to learn to ask the women what's going on, when a woman's actions are mysterious.]

Here's my take on it...From the beginning, McVain was drooling over Palin. In the film footage of the rallies, you can see him hanging on her every word, but trying not to appear so obviously infatuated with her. You can see him following her around, conscious of his proximity to her at every moment, anxious when she strayed out on her own, and eager to hug her and kiss her at every opportunity.

This type of touchy-feely behavior no doubt surprised Palin initially, and she rolled with it to be a good sport. But ultimately, all the drooling made Palin (and the First Dude) quite uncomfortable. Not only is it unprofessional, but McVain wanted to be too close in the hugs, and too affectionate in the kisses. You can see all this in the news footage. Palin has been able to choreograph more physical distance between her and McVain. The hugs are shorter and there is a definite projection by Palin of some boundaries - she is keeping him at bay because she does not want to have this old fart lusting after her! I mean, a woman can only take so much of this crap! And she certainly doesn't want to give him any encouragement.

McVain probably thought he could basically have his way with her because he's (or his campaign or the RNC) is footing the huge bill for her presence and contribution to the campaign. He thought he could do with her what he does with all women - treat them like they are there for his pleasure, to do what he needs them to do, to serve him and to serve his agenda.

When she started making a fool of herself in interviews, McVain soon insisted on accompanying her, chaperoning her, to act as a control, fill in the gaps when she obviously was clueless, and to prevent her embarrassing gaffes. At this point in time, his campaign was starting to spiral out of his control. It's totally gone now. No one can even successfully do damage control anymore.

Tomorrow, Palin and her husband, Todd, are scheduled to give depositions in TrooperGate. The expectation is that there will be some negative repercussions on Palin's official position as Governor of Alaska. This, combined with the rest of the verdicts against Palin, will afford the McVain campaign an ideal opportunity to unload her - because unloading her is the only thing that might make a difference in the projected outcome of this election.

Barack Obama and the Democrats are stealing the election. Massive voter fraud is being carried out, even as we speak, by their henchmen, known by the innocuous sounding Association for Community Organisations for Reform Now, or Acorn. Clever bastards.

The only problem? Despite the screaming wall-to-wall coverage of "Democratic voter fraud in 11 swing states" as seen on Fox News and even the once-respectable CNN, none of it's true. None of it.
In just the last week, we've had a phoney stunt raid in swing state Nevada (where Acorn had been cooperating with officials for months, concerning problem canvassers they'd long ago fired); a Republican election official in swing state Missouri tell Fox News that she's being beseiged with fraudulent registration forms from Acorn (in a county where they've not done any registration work since August); a Republican sheriff in swing state Ohio, who, the very next day, suddenly requested the names and addresses of hundreds of early voters (with evidence of exactly zero wrong doing, but lots of Democratic-leaning college student in the particular county, and John McCain's state campaign chair as a partner in the investigation); and a screaming front page headline in Rupert Murdoch's New York Post about a guy who claims he was somehow tricked by Acorn into registering 72 times (but read the article closely to note he says he registered at the same address each time, which, even if true, would allow him - you guessed it - precisely one legal vote.)
It's an old Republican scam, but it's never been carried out with more zeal than this year. The Republicans have been putting so much time, money and resources into the propaganda leading up to this over the last four years, we should have expected no less.

As luck would have it, the Democrats have a man who, as an attorney years ago, actually had the temerity to join the US department of justice in representing Acorn in a successful lawsuit, forcing the state of Illinois to follow the law by allowing citizens to register to vote at the department of motor vehicles. What a scoundrel.

That, of course, was before the department of justice, under George Bush's corrupt command, would itself become politicised by the very Republicans so desperate to keep low-income voters from voting, that they were willing to fire their own US attorneys for failing to bring phoney charges of voter fraud in key swing states like Nevada and Missouri.

So what are the crimes that have caused all the Sturm und Drang on US television and talk radio, and in several otherwise respectable newspapers and even by the McCain campaign itself?

The only actual crime here is that Acorn managed to register some 1.3m low-income (read: Democratic-leaning) voters over the past two years. The rest is, pretty much, just made up.

But in the bloody and desperate trenches of the Republican war on democracy, that's more than enough to kick in a last minute surge of lies that may - with the help of a compliant and lazy corporate US media - wreak enough havoc, scare enough voters, confuse enough people and plant enough seeds to call an Obama victory into doubt on November 4.

If you can't win it, steal it. If you can't steal it, claim the other guy stole it. If you can't claim the other guy stole it (yet), say they're about to and then kick up smoke that maybe someone will believe you. (Heckuva job, CNN.)

Here are the facts. Acorn verifies the legitimacy of every registration its canvassers collect. If they can't authenticate the registration, or it's incomplete or questionable in other ways, they flag that form as problematic ("fraudulent", "incomplete", et cetera). They then hand in all registration forms, even the problematic ones, to elections officials, as they are required to do by law. In almost every case where you've heard about fraud by Acorn, it's because Acorn itself notified officials about the fraud that's been perpetrated on them by rogue canvassers. Most officials who run to the media screaming "Acorn is committing fraud" know all of the above but don't bother to share those facts with the media they've run to. None of this is about voter fraud. None of it. Where any fraud has occurred, it's voter registration fraud and has resulted in exactly zero fraudulent votes.

You'll hear that Donald Duck, Mary Poppins, Dick Tracy, Mickey Mouse and (new this year) the starting lineup of the Dallas Cowboys football team have all had fraudulent registrations submitted in their names. That's true. And we know this, why? Because Acorn told officials about it when they followed the law and turned in those registrations, flagged as fraudulent.

What you won't hear is that federal law requires anybody who does not register to vote in person at the county office to show an ID when they go to vote the first time. So, unless Donald Duck shows up with his ID, he won't be voting this November. You needn't worry, no matter how much even John McCain himself cynically and dishonourably tries to mislead you.

If it quacks like a duck, in this case, it's likely another Republican Acorn voter fraud lie. They haul it out every two years.
Just days before the 2004 presidential election, rightwing whack job Michelle Malkin claimed that Acorn was registering terrorists to vote in swing state Ohio. Problem was, that was a lie.

In 2006, again just days before the election, the new US attorney in swing state Missouri (recently appointed, since the one before him refused to bring such charges), filed voter fraud indictments against Acorn workers in the state. Problem was, bringing election-related indictments that close to an election was a violation of the department of justice's own written policy. And Acorn had nothing to do with it, other than turning in the employees to officials.

Getting the picture? It's a hoax. All of it.

But it's been an effective one, as it's served to distract from very real concerns about tens of thousands of voters who have been illegally purged from the voting rolls in dozens of states, as the New York Times reported in a remarkable front page investigative story. That story followed a report the week before from CBS News detailing still more wholesale purges of voting rolls in some 20 states.

That will be the November surprise, when thousands, if not millions show up to vote only to find they are no longer welcome to do so and are forced to vote on a "provisional ballot" which may or may not be counted.

These real concerns of election fraud, such as voting roll purges, electronic voting machines that don't work and so much more that actually matters, have been obscured by the smoke and mirrors and sleight of hand of the Republican party's phoney Acorn voter fraud charade.

And where they can, they'll parlay it all into new photo ID restrictions at the polls (knowing full well that some 20m, largely Democratic-leaning voters don't own the type of ID they'd need to jump over that next Republican hurdle.)

Yet, with all of the unsubstantiated, wholly bogus claims of voter fraud being carried out by Democrats, there remains at least one case of absolutely ironclad, documented, yet still-unprosecuted case of voter fraud that, for some reason, Republicans don't much like to talk about.
We can only wonder why.

Just Because You Say It.. Truth in Political Commercials & FOX News Advertising

There is a rule well known by preschoolers that does not seem to apply to politicians or major media outlets:

Just because you say it, it doesn't make it true.

Our truth in advertising laws on the books need enforcement. Government agencies can warn and fine companies when they make false and misleading claims about everything from beer to tooth paste, but somehow we don't feel compelled to regulate political ads, or the claims that news organizations make in an advertising/promotional form?

Negative ads that are based on unfounded charges go away if they aren't legal. If we apply the same proof standards that we use for Viagra to vitriol, then at least the Lee Attwater/Karl Rove school of smear first, fact-check later is not what the public is being delivered.

To have an informed population, they have to be getting information. Too often, as with the Ayers smear, or...

I have been watching CNN for many hours this political season and I have to regrettably conclude that for some reason CNN does not want Sen. Obama to get elected president. I'll leave the possible reason or reasons up to you to speculate upon. They call themselves the most trusted name in the news. That’s no longer the case for me.

Their so-called fact checking about the McCain campaign’s assertion that somehow Sen. Obama's association with William Ayers beginning in the 1990's taints his candidacy only reinforced McCain and Palin’s ridiculous assertions. There is an obvious huge difference between Sen. Obama associating with the Bill Ayers who is a professor of education at the University of Illinois and the Bill Ayers who was involved with the Weather Underground when Obama was 8 years old! But did CNN make that difference obvious – emphatically no!

The Bill Ayers that Obama met was on the board of a charitable organization that had major educational initiatives in Chicago funded by money from the Annenberg Foundation. So how in the world can CNN give any credence to McCain and Palin’s implication that Sen. Obama consorted with practicing terrorists?

CNN even found a conservative who attempted quite unsuccessfully to sully Obama’s work as chairman of the committee managing the Annenberg money. Nevertheless, CNN presented it.

And they did not call McCain out on the fact that one of his supporters yelled out, ‘terrorist” when McCain asked, “Who is Barack Obama?” at a campaign event. No they are quite happy to let McCain descend into the most reprehensible form of political mud slinging, reminiscent of what goes on in places like Zimbabwe.

There are other examples but I think you get the message.

They are setting the un-regulated laws that has turned this country into greed. You can't blame them for thinking about greed, yet, I hate to say it but: President Bush dropped the ball. He was so hungry on the axis of evil, and forgot about his own house. Which in tern burnt his country -- maybe G. W. Bush didn't know because: NOBODY LISTENED. This is the change we need in Washington, when everyone knows that they can't beat the system. The National Enquirer has exposed a Sarah Palin scandal that, if true, threatens to derail the McCain/Palin campaign. According to the Enquirer, Palin cheated on her husband Tom with Todd’s former business partner, Brad Hanson, who at the time was a married man.

Hanson owned a snowmobile dealership with Palin’s husband Todd, who angrily dissolved the partnership after he heard about the affair, which occurred around 1996.

Hanson denies ever having an affair with the 44-year-old candidate, but his family members say otherwise

OPINION - If you haven't noticed, the "Best Poltical Team on Television" at CNN has been playing a kind of epic spin game to keep the campaign close. While CBS, NBC, ABC and MSNBC have been done what they always do, hunt down stories on Sarah Palin to tell us more about her, identify inconsistencies, fibs and outright lies in her stump speeches, and document the immense waffling of John McCain on every politically sensitive issue on the economy this week, CNN covers it very lightly, and is always careful not to step on the McCain camp's toes, even when they have to follow the press pack into a story.

While dozens of media outlets were lambasting McCain for saying that he would fire the SEC chairman one day, and then do a 180 on the next, news cycle or come up with a "Plan" for the bailout even though everyone knows that the Fed and the Treasury Secretary will have a "plan" long before McCain can do anything about the financial crisis, CNN reported the facts of the event, and kept its talking heads away from calling McCain on any of it.

To all CNN journalists and news producers,

Oh goodness gracious. I just listened to Wolf Blitzer give Donald Trump several minutes worth of airtime to talk about his support of John McCain. Ostensibly, I guess, Trump was on air to talk about the disastrous economic news, but, lo and behold, for the second day in a row CNN gave Trump a platform to discuss his personal choice for president. I didn’t much care about his Trump’s election choice the first day CNN featured it (Wednesday, 9/17) so I REALLY didn’t need to hear it again the next day. So, I assume, in fairness, CNN will find a well-known figure to chat with Wolf on two consecutive days about why he or she believes Obama is the better choice.

Campbell Brown, thanks for trying to get Lynn Forester de Rothschild to explain why she is now supporting McCain whose policies are diametrically opposed to those of her first choice, Hillary Clinton. You tried, Campbell, but she managed to finesse her moment in the limelight into an unchallenged attack on Obama without ever answering that glaringly obvious question. I watched this segment wondering why on earth anyone watching your program needed to hear from this arrogant woman at all.

Once again, I urge CNN to speak truth to lies. I’m sure you know that increasing numbers of legitimate and respected media are calling McCain’s ads what they are in fact — lies. I hope you don’t let a single assertion — from anyone — that Obama will raise taxes without stating unequivocally that Obama’s plan will NOT raise taxes on anyone making less than $250,000 a year. Doesn’t it bother the journalists at CNN that McCain, Palin and their supporters continue to repeat lies over and over again? As journalists, is it not your obligation to point out when people on your programs continue to put forth falsehoods?

AC 360, THANK YOU for your reporting on the valid questions about Palin’s performance on the sports complex in Wasilla and how her questionable choices incurred additional costs to taxpayers.

I hope CNN is all over your story on voting problems in swing states. This has the potential to be one of the most important stories of this election — the possible disenfranchisement of hundreds of thousands of voters. Without a doubt, this story is more important than Palin’s glasses and other inconsequential “news.”

FYI — I have no connection to Obama’s campaign. I’m just a voter and an avid CNN news watcher.

The biases of CNN against Obama and subtle support for McCain

Unfortunately, because I am so interested in the Presidential election this year, but do not know any other media (I am not saying that they do not exist, I may not be "savy" enough to know how to get them) I am stuck with watching CNN. Campbell Brown (bless her. I love her now-a-days) in Election Center says "no bull" and Anderson Cooper in A360 says "we tell it like it is and leave you viewers to decide" but I believe overall that CNN has been very subtle in showing bais against Obama while supporting McCain.

By way of protesting and saying "enough is enough" and that we the viewers (or at least some of us) see right through the subtly. I know that CNN might accuse the Obama Campaign that this is an attempt to smear their effort. However, I would like to say that I am only using this Blog because I did not have the money to subscribe to my own domain name. For that matter, if I had my own domain name, it would have been www.thesubtlebiasesofcnnagainstobama.com (to be read as "the subtle biases of cnn against obama").

So here is how this would work. If you watch CNN on TV or read any bias report on Obama, I would want you to come to this Post and make a report on it in the following format. State the DATE of the report, the NAME of the anchor or reporter, the SOURCE of the bias (the TV program or online link) and the BIASED information.

To be fair to CNN, you are welcome to report any balanced report that you like too even though this Post is designed to expose the biases of CNN against Obama. As a check, you are welcome to refer to the transcripts posted by CNN or the online link of the biased report as a way to verify the report.

For the remaining 50 days of this election, you are encouraged to use the above domain name and invite me to make contributions to it. I am an Obama supporter for the following two reasons:

(1) McCain exercised poor judgment in supporting Bush to go to Iraq and violate a Nations sovereignty, thus depleting the effectiveness of the Afghanistan War.

(2) The Bush Administration has messed up this country in the last 8 years and the Republicans as McSame should not be rewarded even now as it is clear that Bush is wearing a camouflage with McCain's face as a mask.

Anderson asked Candy if she thinks that both McCain and Obama are even with the level of lies that they have tolde (stretching the truth). I would say that Crowley who is supposed to report the truth as a reporter said that she was "not going to be the one to tell you whether it's equal or not". Fair enough. But her bias was revealed when she rather than at best remain neutral as she had purported to do, gave three examples of where she thinks Obama had strecthed the truth without, in the spirit of fairness, mentioning one single thing that McCain had strecthed. Luckily, thank God that Mr. Halperin was asked the same question and he was willing to tell the truth that we alll know.

Oh, by the way Crowley, as to your claim that Obama stretched the truth in misrepresenting McCain's "joke" that one has to have $5 million to qualify as being rich", was it Obama's fault that McCain quoted $5 million? Do you think that McCain actually had a lower figure in mind? You may claim that McCain was being politically savy by "making a joke out of a serious question that meant a lot to all middle-class Americans". But then, we the voters, who want an answer from McCain have no other choice but interpret McCain's answer in the same way that Obama did. Or Crowley, do you think we do not deserve an answer from McCain?

I posted a comment on CNN to Glenn Beck's spin on the Palin media "attack"

Mr. Beck, you cherry picked the nitpicks of the media and the talking heads. What worries me most is Mrs Palins continued bending of the truth (outright lies?) regarding her conduct as a conservative, reformer. She supported the bridge to nowhere and yet she keeps saying she said no thanks. She fought for earmarks and yet she calls herself a reformer. These are the important inconsistencies that should be illuminated rather than these petty claims about who has more experience than who or whether or not she cares about special needs. Stop focusing on the petty pundit banter and focus on what we Americans are asking for, leaders who can affect a change of the way government and politics are conducted. (for the people and not lobbyists and special interests)

Just a Quick Note....

Just wanted to tell you that I've been posting for several days now on my MySpace page about the campaign.

My most recent post deals with the truth about the tax plans of both candidates. I was so glad that CNN - Anderson Cooper 360 showed us the tax chart. It really gives a visual of where the two candidates stand!

I also restructured it putting the lower income on top and the higher incomes on the bottom to show the progression along with making sure people understand that the minus means they are saving on their taxes!

I also pointed out in my blog that I didn't think that this included the Earned Income Tax Credit for the lower income. I hope I was right about that?Clarification would be greatly appreciated. Anyone?

Anyone who would like the graphic can contact me and I'll send it to them. We really need to get this information out! Stick to the policies and issues!

When John McCain gets into office he will take us to war, he will make you SS benefits open to the stock market where China can control your retirement funds. Just think about it would China allow America to own their retirement funds: NOT A CHANCE. John McCain is so out of touch, that we are fool by subtance, and not actuality. Feedback/Opinion on Service Summit at Columbia University

Re The Summit on Service at Columbia University organized by Service Nation in which Presidential Candidates John Mc Cain and Barack Obama shared their views on service.

The debate brought back to me memories of collaborating with the Peace Corps in farflung and distant communities during my career at the United Nations.

Listening to the forum prompted me to make this post, which is the same as I posted earlier.

I would hope that honoring those who served in the Peace Corps could be the subject of a future show (Larry King, Oprah, the Daily Show) and introduce the new concept of a global youth corps below.

Global Youth Corps for Sustainable Development - mission to have peace break out in the world.

I collaborated with the Peace Corps during my career at the United Nations, and remember the energy and enthusiasm of those American youth, open to learning local languages, foods, culture, and sharing info about the USA with communities.

This prompted me to suggest to the presidential candidates during the primaries that they should consider having a platform on service and youth which would not be unidirectional, like the Peace Corps, but involve youth from around the world.

This Global Youth Corps would be multidirectional, where youth from each country, not only from USA, would traverse the globe armed with PCs/laptops,iPods... United Nations Instruments - like the Convention on the Climate Change, the Declaration of Human Rights, the Goals of the UN - Millennium Development Goal, etc...working on connecting, linking, cooperating.

A network of youth, exchanging skillsets, learning languages, music, appreciating and understanding cultural and behavioural practices and differences, knowing that, though we live in different climes, and different lands, we are basically the same - human beings.

These differences can be made clearer when youth are grouped by eco-zone: youth from mountains, small island states, deserts, forest environments, all having specific adaptive and cultural behaviors which disappear or metamorphose when thrown into foreign environments, usually the urban areas. Now the world can benefit from the knowledge and efforts of these youth.

Global youth corps for sustainable development would be of value as the youth involved would become future leaders and their participation in this movement would help make the world a better place - they would be in the drivers' seats for the creation of a better world based on service

Kudos to Campbell for interrupting one partisan commentator (former press secretary to Newt Gingrich) when he tried to answer a question by ducking it and talking about something somebody in South Carolina did. Kudos to Randi Kaye for a more in-depth look at Palin’s record as Mayor and Governor.

The Associated Press has reported that a judged warned the Palin family three years ago not to disparage her sister’s ex-husband. As we all know, the Palin family and staff did anyway and brought pressure to bear on the Public Safety Commissioner to fire the trooper.

Gov. Palin, after promising complete cooperation with the Legislative inquiry into the possible abuse of her office regarding attempts to pressure the Public Safety Commissioner to fire her sister’s ex-husband, is now fighting the inquiry, claiming the Legislature has no jurisdiction. This seems like a blatant attempt to slow the process down until after the election.

What is wrong with CNN?

Yet again CNN is twisting (or allowing others to twist) the words Obama and Biden. Today’s example is with regard to Biden’s comments suggesting that Hillary was a highly qualified candidate for VP. His comments were meant to subdue the crowd and pay her a compliment for her historic campaign and qualifications. Instead of leaving it at that CNN decided to turn it into a headline with Biden suggesting that she would have been a better pick for VP. Just because he suggested she was very qualified doesn’t mean should would have been a better pick and he simply didn’t say that! Certainly there are many people quite qualified to be VP, for example, Al Gore, Bill Clinton, what about Dick Cheney? All have white house experience and carry pretty impressive qualifications but that doesn’t make them a better pick.

CNN”s willingness to twist and stretch comments into misleading headlines is extremely dangerous and I really wish they would for once act a bit more responsibly. It occurs to me more this election cycle that maybe the American’s dislike of politicians is not so much rooted in the politicians themselves, but rather the way they are portrayed by the headline hungry media. –At times like these I really miss Tim Russert.

To all CNN journalists and news producers, Part V:

About healthcare. And I know it’s complex. But the Republican strategists have been fudging — no, lying, about Obama’s healthcare plans and it’s time to call them on it with facts.

Yesterday, (9-9), Bay Buchanan referred to Obama’s healthcare plans as socialized medicine. Wrong. It’s time to stop letting the Republican talking heads get away with that lie. That charge stuck against Hillary Clinton’s healthcare proposal back in the early ’90s when Bill Clinton was President. That plan, as you know, went nowhere.

Obama’s healthcare proposal (which is very similar to the healthcare proposal Clinton proposed during her campaign for president this year) is very different than Clinton’s plan more than decade ago. The old charges of socialized medicine don’t apply whatsoever.

What Obama is proposing is to offer access to the same private insurance plan that members of Congress are offered. So, if the Republicans call it socialized medicine or a government takeover of an individual’s healthcare, well, then, apparently we already have it because every member of Congress sure takes advantage of it.

Obama has correctly pointed out that both McCain and Palin are the recipients of healthcare insurance paid for by the taxpayers, which is also true for Obama himself and Biden. If this is such an awful thing, why do they accept it, if this is such a perversion of private healthcare market, why don’t they buy their own private plan? Give me a break.

Obama has also said plainly and distinctly that anyone who is satisfied with their healthcare plan now can keep it exactly like it is. No change, nada. No one will force anything down anyone’s throat. (He hopes to work to lower healthcare premiums in general.)

So it’s time to stop letting the partisan mouthpieces resurrect the ’90s charge of socialized medicine. They’re either stupid, which I don’t believe, or flat-out lying. Call them on it.

Why not put together a CNN special report on the healthcare plans of the two candidates? They are vastly different, they will affect different people in vastly different ways. McCain’s plan won’t give the uninsured access to healthcare insurance at all. And, as you may remember, one of his advisors said it was a falsehood to suggest the uninsured don’t have access to healthcare because they can always go to the emergency room. That statement alone reveals how little the McCain camp understands the healthcare crisis facing us today. It shows a complete ignorance of how expensive emergency room care is, forcing that extra cost onto everyone else with healthcare insurance and onto taxpayers in general when state and federal government gives hospitals partial reimbursement for uncompensated care. McCain, as you know, is proposing to tax the dollar value of employer-paid healthcare benefits and then complicate our already over-complicated tax codes by giving some people up to a $5,000 tax credit. Most experts I’ve read think this proposal will accomplish little and, could, in the long run result in higher healthcare insurance premiums for many.

But you don’t have to take my word for it. I’m sure CNN could find independent experts to help sort out the differences between the two candidates’ healthcare proposals. There’s also a wealth of information out there about how our current system is horrendously flawed. (You can call me if you’d like — I’m a former news reporter who also worked in the healthcare field for a decade and has gone through periods with health insurance and without health insurance.)

Self-Fulfilling Prophesy

The media continues to claim that Gov. Sarah Palin has stolen the show. The problem is that the media has created the problem and it will become a self-fulfilling prophesy. The press continues to pay attention to someone about whom we know very little and who does not provide any information. She has not sat for any interviews 11 days after McCain chose her as his running mate. Palin is not running for Miss Alaska but the vice presidency of the United States. Given the age and health status of John McCain there is a high chance she could end up being president if McCain wins. Folks, this is serious stuff!

David Gergen of CNN said he couldn't remember such a long span of time between the nomination and a vice-president candidate sitting down for interviews with the press. Instead of covering Palin non-stop and trying to figure out what she knows and what she stands for, the media should stop paying so much attention to her. In other words, the media should force her to undergo the scrutiny that the other candidates have been subjected to for many months by refusing to cover her every move. We only have less than two months to do what we had a year and one half to do with John McCain and Barack Obama.

Palin is going to do an interview with Charlie Gibson of ABC News on the 7th anniversary of 9/11, when her son is supposed to ship out to Iraq (I can't be the only one who thinks the choice of the date is too obvious) . If Palin does not do well even though the questions will likely play to her strengths and there will be nothing that stresses her, she probably won’t sit for more interviews anytime soon. If she does continue to hibernate after being on Gibson’s show, then the media needs to stop trying to figure her out her until she emerges from media-free cave in which she currently lives.

Fact Checking CNN Style

I just watched AC369 on CNN (the late version of the September 9, 2008 edition). One of the pieces they did was to check Internet comments about Sarah Palin. They basically claimed that the shooting of wolves from airplanes, the banning of books in the Wasilla town library, the forced teaching of creationism, and the effects of global warming on polar bears were non-starters in terms of being true. The things is that they presented actually supported the fact that Palin is holds views that any thinking person would not.

Starting with the shooting of wolves from airplanes and the effects of global warming on the polar bear population. They interviewed a biologist who said he was not for either party. When asked about the shooting of wolves he said that the studies showed no negative effects of the wolves, refuting the claims by Palin and her supporters that they do. When the scientist was asked about Palin's environmental record he answered with one word "abysmal."

The banning of library books was overblown. But Palin did ask the librarian about banning books. Apparently she pressured the librarian into quitting but then relented.

In fairness, Palin did not try to force the teaching of creationism. But she thinks that creationism should be taught along with evolution. Can anyone seriously believe that she would not promote this view if she was elected vice president?

The bottom line is that CNN's fact checking only proved that Palin's views are extreme. If she is elected she will undoubtedly push these views as much as she can. And it will be too late for the country to realize the serious mistake it has made. This is one election in which fact checking needs be done with truth. CNN did not pass the past this evening.

Letters to CNN, Part IV

To all CNN journalists and news producers, Part IV:

Good to hear you finally reporting some facts today about Palin's claims about the infamous Bridge to Nowhere, including her support for it while running for Governor. Your anchors and reporters are now, finally, making clear she didn’t say “no thanks” until Congress changed the funding formulae and the bridge would no longer be almost completely funded by U.S. taxpayers.

Kudos to Anderson Cooper. He's the first CNN person I've actually heard state flat out that Palin did NOT return the federal money earmarked for the bridge (though I’ve read differing amounts of between $100 to $230 million). Why is that so important? Because Palin's stump speech goes something like this "I said thanks, but no thanks on that bridge to nowhere. If we want a bridge, we'll build it ourselves." The clear implication is that Alaska, thus Palin, declined the money, saving U.S. taxpayers. Truth is, U.S. taxpayers didn’t save a dime. Alaska and Palin were just given free rein to spend it anyway they wanted. It’s a very significant difference since Palin is erroneously citing the bridge to nowhere as one of her strongest claims to being a reformer against pork barrel spending.

Kudos to Jeffrey Toobin again. I appreciated his pointing out to Campbell Brown the difference between a journalist and a strategist. (I believe he was referring to Bay Buchanan’s comments about why Palin is being protected from the press.) That distinction can NEVER be made often enough. In fact, in my opinion, you’d be better off having fewer partisan strategists (they’re just mouthpieces, after all) and more journalists and real analysts like David Gergen.

Kudos to the male commentator (I missed his name) on the AC 360 panel that chided the media for spending so much time on nonsense issues and so little time on digging out facts about Palin’s record. The discussion was about the lipstick on a pig brouhaha and everything the gentlemen said was correct. You and other media are falling for the McCain sucker punch and creating endless discussion about tempests in teapots. Meaningless drivel that you shouldn’t waste more than 20 seconds on. Remember, your job is to report facts, not play the diversion game started by a candidate’s campaign.

As far as McCain’s claiming Biden sunk to a new low by bringing up Palin’s opposition to stem cell research — uh, not in my book. Palin has paraded her family in front of the public, including her young son with Down’s syndrome. She specifically brought up her special needs son in her acceptance speech, she’s talking about it. In my book, pointing out her extreme position on stem cell research and its effect on the possible future medical benefits is fair game.

I’m sure you’re aware of the interview Palin gave where she criticized Clinton for pointing out sexist treatment. Instead of whining, Palin said, Clinton should “work harder, prove yourself to an even greater degree that you’re going to be the best candidate.” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gA15XU23kEc) A bit ironic, don’t you think, now that the McCain campaign is claiming sexist treatment and will keep her away from interviews until the press treats her with “respect and proper deference.” Maybe you should point that out.

Who is going to answer the phone at 3:00 in the morning McCain or Palin?

The McCain campaign was running ads that stated that Barack Obama is not experienced enough to answer the red phone at 3:00 in the morning. Well, the way their campaign has allowed Sarah Palin to take center stage as though she is the top of the ticket, will she have a rollaway bed placed in McCain's bedroom so she can answer the red phone at 3:00 in the morning? John McCain clearly picked this woman, with little or questionable experience, to get media attention and try to pitifully win over former Hillary Clinton supporters. I think that this was a desperate and petty move on his part. I don't believe that Hillary Clinton supporters are going to fall for this obvious farce. She has nothing even close to Hillary Clinton when it comes to experience or strength. How dare she get up there and let the George W. Bush speech writing team write her into a corner by making fun of Barack Obama's experience and record as a community organizer. How does she think grass roots began? This never done before grass roots success that his campaign has become is a result of his experience as a community organizer. Her remarks at the RNC were offensive, sarcastic, and totally useless in letting people know where their party stands on issues. How convenient because she had no new ideas to speak of. Women, Republicans, and undecided voters are supposed to be impressed because she can play the dozens, because she can hurl insults that she read from a teleprompter? The surrogates who are defending her can only point to the fact that she is a soccer mom, that she put a plane up for auction on Ebay, and that she was mayor of a small town. Oh, and lets not forget one of the most popular governor's in the United States. Big surprise, since most of the state is comprised of men looking at an ex-beauty queen. If I were these ladies, I would be very embarrassed to only have these attributes to speak of on national media outlets such as CNN. They talk as if they know her personally. I hope they don't end up eating crow for breakfast after Palin actually starts talking to the media and more information comes out on her. Remember, she is still under investigation. After awhile, McCain may start to wonder how much of a Maverick he truly was in picking her. He better hope that his party does not come up with new rules and make him the Vice Presidential nominee instead of the Presidential nominee! Now wouldn't that be something for the history books or in her case the she-story books!

I was watching abc and cnn while getting ready for work and saw that a new poll shows that white women have moved over to Senator John McCain by 20 points.

No offense to the remarkable white women out there, but what the polls and the media neglected to mention is that there are more than white women voters out there. The white women vote is not the standard by which women votes should be measured.

Don't believe the propaganda Barack supporters. Speak up and Speak out!

Don't let the racist and sexist people decide the fate of our future. This election is about the issues.

To All CNN Journalists and news producers, Part III:

I keep waiting to hear some real facts about Gov. Palin's record as Mayor of Wasilla and as Gov. of Alaska for 20 months. Admittedly, I don't watch CNN 24 hours a day, but it is the only news channel I watch and I watch a lot.

I keep waiting to hear some real facts about The Bridge to Nowhere and her support of the project while she was running for Governor. I keep waiting to hear a journalist or an anchor clarify that the federal money originally intended for the bridge (more than $200 million from what I've read so far) was NOT returned to taxpayers, but was still given to Alaska for other projects. Contrary to what both Palin and McCain imply, there was NO savings to U.S. taxpayers. She did not say "thanks, but no thanks;" she said "thanks and I'll spend it however I want."

So far, I have only heard your commentators try to interject facts into the discussion of Palin's claim of being a reformer against pork. Your anchors set up these statements as opinions rather than facts ... why? Why aren't your journalists and anchors stating these FACTS? I just don't get it.

I watched one report from a CNN journalist in Alaska (shown during AC 360) that was unbelievably amateurish. Instead of reporting verifiable FACTS, your journalist picked a Palin opponent, Alaska Sate Sen. Lyda Green, to state Palin had supported the bridge while running for Gov., which turned the issue into a "she said, she said" fight instead of a FACT. Why aren't you reporting facts as facts?

I keep waiting for CNN to report on the Wall St. Journal's reporting of the history of Palin's crowning achievement as Mayor of Wasilla — the indoor sports complex Palin proceeded to build before the city had clear title to the land, embroiling the project in litigation for several years and costing Wasilla taxpayers more than $1 million in added expenses because of the decisions she made. Don't you think that's pertinent to all the claims being made about Palin's executive experience?

If a candidate makes claims and specific assertions about her record, is it not your job to report the accuracy of those claims and assertions?

Isn’t there someplace in your election coverage that will take a good hard look at the claims being made about her record regardless of her gender or celebrity status? Pretend she’s an unknown male small-town mayor and Gov. for 20 months and give us some facts, please.

Please don't cave in to the Republican attack on media. It’s a transparent political strategy that has worked for them before. If you don't report the truth, who will? Fox?

Some of us have gotten together and have already send out the first round, but it is going to take a lot more of us to make a statement. We have to bombard the media with Facts. We have voter registrations across the country being cast aside by various states, particurlary with Republican run governors.

Are we going to sit silently and moan and not challenge reporters to fair and equitable coverage?

Are we defeatests or are we victors?

Since learning that Governor Sarah Palin has granted ABC's Charlie Gibson her first television interview since her VP nomination, we request, in good faith, that your constituents adhere to an objective, a fair and factual interview of Governor Palin.

For example, in ABC's April 16, 2008 coverage of the Clinton-Obama debate, Charlie Gibson defended his scrutiny of Senator Barack Obama's patriotism by stating: ""It comes up again and again when we talk to voters. And, as you may know, it is all over the Internet."

We commend ABC for listening to the voters on April 16, 2008, and now we ask that ABC listens to the voters today, September 8, 2008, and adequately ask Governor Palin---upon interview---precise, unadulterated questions while requiring that the Governor gives unambiguous, un-watered down, and non-deceptive answers to voters' concerns that come "up again and again" and that are "all over the internet".

Case in point: During Governor Palin's acceptance speech, she asserted:

"...I championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. In fact, I told Congress -- I told Congress, 'Thanks, but no thanks,' on that bridge to nowhere. If our state wanted a bridge, I said we'd build it ourselves."

It is not the earmarks that upset voters the most; it is the deception, the disingenuousness, the documented lies about Palin's stance on earmarks as well as other issues, that infuriates us more, and it brings ethics and judgment to the forefront. Thus, we are counting on your wisdom and professional journalistic due diligence in this interview to keep voters informed.

We also enclosed a list of grave voter concerns as detailed on Think Progress' website for your review, and we ask that these issues are thoroughly addressed during this interview, and all others with the McCain campaign.

Palin Hasn’t Given The War In Iraq Much Thought. Palin told the Alaska Business Monthly, “I’ve been so focused on state government, I haven’t really focused much on the war in Iraq. I heard on the news about the new deployments, and while I support our president, Condoleezza Rice and the administration, I want to know that we have an exit plan in place.” [Alaska Business Monthly, 3/1/07] Palin Has Never Been To Iraq. In her only trip overseas, Palin visited Al aska National Guard troops stationed in Kuwait and Germany in July 2007. [AP, 7/25/07] Palin Believes That The Iraq War Is A Task ‘From God.’ Speaking at the Wasilla Assembly of God church in June, Palin said that “our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God.” [Huffington Post, 9/2/08] Palin Believes The Iraq War Was Fought Over Oil. “We are a nation at war and in many [ways] the reasons for war are fights over energy sources,” Palin told BusinessWeek in an interview. [BusinessWeek, 8/29/08] Palin Didn’t Have A Passport Until 2007. Palin first obtained a passport in July 2007 for her trip to Kuwait and Germany to visit Alaska National Guard troops. Her only other trip outside of the United States was to Canada. When asked for her “take on global warming,” Palin replied, “A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location. I’m not one though who would attribute it to being man-made.” [Newsmax, 08/29/08] Challenging ‘Uncertain Climate Models,’ Palin Is Suing To Lift Protected Status For Polar Bears. After a multi-year court battle, the Bush administration recognized in 2008 that polar bears are threatened with extinction by global warming. It centers on the hiring of surveyor Tom Lamal, who once co-hosted a Palin fundraiser, for a state right-of-way agent job in Fairbanks.” [Anchorage Daily News, 9/7/08] Palin Forced Top Wasilla Employees To Resign As Loyalty Test. As Mayor of Wasilla in 1998, “asked all of the city’s top managers to resign in order to test their loyalty to her administration.”[Daily Sitka Sentenial, 10/28/06] Palin Fired Police Chief For Not Fully Supporting Her. After becoming Mayor of Wasilla, Palin fired the city’s police chief, Irl Stambaugh, writing, “I do not feel I have your full support in my efforts to govern the city of Wasilla. Therefore I intend to terminate your employment.” Stambaugh charged that Palin fired him “because he stepped on the toes of Palin’s campaign contributors, including bar owners and the National Rifle Association.” [Anchorage Daily News, 2/1/97; ABC News, 9/3/08] 0A Palin Used Mayoral Office Resources For Campaigning. During her 2002 campaign for lieutenant governor, Palin ordered campaign materials from City Hall, had them delivered there, and used city employees on city-aid time to arrange campaign events. Palin allegedly “tried to get a state trooper fired and she then fired the trooper’s boss because he wouldn’t act on her request.” Palin’s sister was involved in a “bitter child custody battle” with the trooper. [Anchorage Daily News, 7/18/08] Palin’s Intial Denials Of Interference In Firing Were Proven False. Palin “previously said her administration didn’t exert pressure to get rid of trooper Mike Wooten,” but “an audio recording that shows an aide pressuring the Public Safety Department to fire a state trooper embroiled in a custody battle with her sister.” The McCain campaign now says Palin’s husband and members of her staff had made inquiries “about the appropriate Dep artment of Public Safety procedures for dealing with someone they considered a dangerous person and rogue trooper.” [Anchorage Daily News, 8/14/08, 9/02/08] Palin’s Lawyer In Investigation Is Also Her Personal Attorney. Thomas V. Van Flein, the lawyer Palin hired to defend her in the trooper investigation, is “representing Palin both personally and in her official capacity as governor.” The AP noted, “Depending on where the investigation leads, that could put him in a difficult situation if Palin’s interests and the interests of the public office diverge.” [AP, 9/02/08] Palin Has Refused To Release E-mails, Citing ‘Executive Privilege.’ Palin has refused to release e-mails requested by the state’s trooper union, citing executive privilege. Questions have been raised, however, as to whether these documents are actually related to official business, since her husband was copied on some of them. [KTUU, 8/6/08; TPMmuckraker, 9/1/08] ON THE RADICAL RIGHT Palin Cheered On the A laskan Independence Party. Six months ago, Palin “told members of the Alaskan Independence Party” — who advocate for a vote on secession from the union — to “keep up the good work” and “wished the party luck on what she called its ‘inspiring convention.’” Palin and her husband attended the party’s convention in 2000, and “for all but two months from 1995 to 2002, the governor’s husband was registered as an Alaskan Independence Party member.” George Clark, the vice chair of the party, claims that Palin was a member of the party “before she got the job as a mayor of a small town.” The McCain campaign denies the charge. [LA Times, 9/3/2008; ABC News, 9/1/2008] Palin Welcomed The Hard-Right Candidacy Of Pat Buchanan. Palin reportedly supported Pat Buchanan’s 1999 presidential bid. When Buchanan visited Alaska in 1999, “[a]mong those sporting Buchanan buttons were Wasilla Mayor Sarah Palin and state Sen. Jerry Ward, R-Anchorage.” Buchanan said Palin “was a brigader in 1996 as was her husband, Chris, they were at a fundraiser for me.” The McCain campaign says Palin “never worked for any effort to elect” Buchanan. [The Nation, 8/29/08; ABC News, 8/30/08] Palin Characterized Ron Paul As ‘Cool.’ During an interview with MTV in February, Palin called Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), who ran against McCain in the primaries, “cool.” “He’s a good guy,” she added. “He’s so independent. He’s independent of the party machine. I’m like, ‘Right on, so am I.’ ” [MTV News, 8/29/2008] Palin Believes The Founding Fathers Wrote The Pledge Of Allegiance. In 2006, when asked by the Eagle Forum Alaska if she found the phrase “Under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance offensive, Palin replied, “Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me.” But the words “Under God” didn’t appear in the Pledge until 1954. The Pledge itself wasn’t written until 1892. [Huffington Post, 9/1/08; Slate, 6/28/02] ON CIVIL RIGHTS Palin Supports Denying Benefits To Same-Sex Couples. In 2006, Palin vetoed legislation denying benefits to same-sex couples, “based on a legal opinion from her new attorney general that the legislation was unconstitutional.” However, she said that she would support a constitutional amendment to deny same-sex couples the benefits. [Gay Republic Daily, 9/20/06; Anchorage Daily News, 12/21/06] Palin Opposed Expanding Hate Crime Laws. A 2006 Eagle Forum Alaska questionnaire asked, “Will you support an effort to expand hate crime laws?” Palin replied, “No, as I believe all heinous crime is based on hate.” [Washington Blade, 9/2/08] ON HEALTH CARE Palin Advocated Consumer-Driven Health Care. While running for governor, Palin attributed rising health care costs to “a lack of competition” and called for “flexibility in government regulation that allow competition in health care.” [On The Issues] Palin Introduced Health Care Transparency Act. Palin’s Alaska Health Care Transparency Act established “an Alaska health care information officeD to help consumers “make better-informed decisions about health care in the state.” The act also called for the repeal of Certificate of Need Laws, programs “aimed at restraining health care facility costs and allowing coordinated planning of new services and construction.” [Gov Tech, 1/28/2008; National Conference of State Legislatures, 8/21/2008] Palin Did Not Take A Position On Expanding SCHIP Funding. Palin did not advocate for greater federal funding of SCHIP. [Blagojevich Press Release, 2/23/07] Palin Signed Watered-Down SCHIP Bill. Palin signed legislation updating eligibility for Alaska’s SCHIP program, Denali KidCare, to maintain the eligibility level–which had dropped to an effective rate of almost 150 percent of the poverty line due to inflation. However, by limiting eligibility to families living below 175 percent of the poverty line, Alaska’s eligibility criteria are still among the lowest in the nation. Palin did not support legislation to expand eligibility to higher levels. [National Conference of State Legislatures, 6/2008; Kaiser Network, 5/22/2007; Anchorage Daily News,=2 04/15/2008] Palin Failed To Support A Bill To Cover All Alaskans. While governor, Palin “did not get behind the most significant piece of health legislation offered — a proposal to ensure that all residents have health insurance, without disrupting the coverage that many Alaskans already have.” [Anchorage Daily News, 5/17/2008] ON THE ECONOMY Palin Left Wasilla $20 Million In Debt. As mayor of Wasilla, Palin cut taxes while simultaneously expanding the town’s operating budget by almost $2 million. She ended her term in 2002 with Wasilla $20 million in debt. [Anchorage Daily News 10/23/06; the Politico, 8/29] Palin Instituted A Windfall Profits Tax On Oil Companies. In 2007, Palin raised taxes on oil company profits by $1.5 billion a year, enabling Alaska to double its oil revenue. As I sit and listen through the news, conventions etc. I find it hard to stomach FOX NEWS' cable station. I have never in my life heard such angry, hateful people deal with a candidate the way they deal with Barack Obama, his family and campaign.

I am overwhelmed by the fact that there are so many issues that his family have gone through that has not even been spoken of, yet this act of control and poise has not been portrayed to the viewers at all.

Barack is right because he doesn't fly off the handle. He doesn't play childish games of "copy cat" or "top this". He does what he does, he does it in excellence and it shows all throughout this campaign. Barack is forward thinker. He has come through several hard issues and still kept his pride and dignity no matter what the attack and they were ugly.

There is so much to say but I'd like to hear from you. What's on your mind?

This time the political gamesmanship on pandering politics -- where the bureaucrats only seek gaming the political system, to have power and control; where they spend hours looking at their profits and not the harm to the economy -- this is the moment in time that change has come. That's when you know this is the time.
Change is not about: A Man with pigment in his skin, change is not about a women on a ticket; Change is not about an elder being begged to change their stubborn ways. Have you ever tried to get an elder to change their old habits -- It's hard work but it takes a spirited leader: Like Barack Obama and a nobody like Omar Dyer: two community Organizers to organize change.
Change is not about; saying this person is a better American, and the other is fraud.

I think we can all agree most if not all media has a bias. I hear this Republican chant "All media is liberal." I watch a mix of CNN and FOX. When I watch CNN I typically get bored, and flip through to something else, but when I watch FOX I get fired up. After watching FOX news for a good hour it makes everything seem liberal. I thought for a moment my grilled cheese sandwhich was liberally biased.

Out of sheer bordeom I spent a good 30 minutes googling where Fox coined the term Fair & Balanced. Where they get Fair & Balanced from is beyond my intellectual capability. Like most media I am sure that they ad lib their news reports. What I think they do is they gather some facts, and then search some synonyms for the word experience, insert opinions, and spin it to all hell. BAM, just like Emeril in the kitchen, they have their story.

They have their "All-Star" panel. Which I am confused to how that is fair and balanced. Dick Morris? Mr. double standard himself. It was ok to lay the smackdown on Hillary back in the primaries, and take it like a man, but it's not ok for Palin? Bill Kristol. Well, almost anyone who has watched FOX would know if Senator Obama obtained World Peace, Cured Cancer, Stopped Aids, and ridded the world of poverty, he would pop on his smerk smile and ridicule him for something.

I try not to be so negative, but somethings are just irritating. They never give him props for anything. they try and nail him for voting against the troop surge. I am glad he did not vote for it. We the people were lead into a war, and lied to non-stop for years about it. So, when W steps up to the podium and says in his suttle southern accent "We need more troops." Why the hell would you take his word, and/or judgement seriously? His has misguided us for 8 years. Obama made a great choice based off of what was happening in Iraq, and what needed to happen. What would have happened if he voted yes on the troop surge? Fox News would have called him a flip flop. They would've have burned it into the heads of everyone who flips through and lands on their network.

I am so exasperated every time I mention to someone that Obama takes no PAC money, he gets his donations from just plain folks. Invariably, the person asks why isn't the media reporting that? The answer is that they have, but not lately and not much. The people we must reach in this election aren't ferreting out their own source of news ... they watch ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN for their news and "facts" when they watch news at all. (I'm not counting Fox for obvious reasons.)

I am so exasperated each time a Republican commentator/strategist/partisan proclaims that Obama will raise "your" taxes and the journalists and anchors sit silently, never offering a single FACT. I am so exasperated by our broadcast news organizations that seem to be increasingly emulating Fox with shout fests. Except Fox of course, is blatantly partisan, so the right-wing viewpoint is out there endlessly. Too often, our mainstream broadcast media is trying so hard to be objective (so they won't be called liberal), that no one, no broadcast media is actually reporting good old hard news and facts.

As a former reporter and editor, I am enraged and sickened by the media' performance of its constitutionally-protected duty. I'm just plain tired of it.

I decided to start sending e-mails to CNN and express my displeasure when their anchors act like mediators of shouting commentators. I decided to point out that part of being a journalist is to differentiate between fact and faction.

(And if anyone who reads this knows the direct e-mail addresses for significant CNN journalists and news producers, please share with me. I'm sending these e-mails from CNN's on-line form.)

If I ran an ad on John McCain it would go just like this:

Please don’t get fooled by John McCain stating that his VP pick was vetted like any other candidate or the like in the Democratic Party.

John McCain wants off-shore drilling, and war – plus cut taxes. How are they going to pay for those ideas: by going to war and borrowing money from China.

Sarah Palin wants to implant the windfall profits tax, and end the war. How will she get her way in John McCain’s plans? She won’t! Sarah Palin will not have a say in McCain’s government, she will be placed as a photo opt to get voters to vote for him.

Why was Sarah Palin picked over Kay Hutchinson, Elizabeth Dole, Judy Martz. Linda Lingle, Olene Smith-Walker, M. Jodi Rell – all of those that supported him during the primaries.

John McCain pick Sarah Palin because she’s young – inexperienced, and is a distraction on McCain’s true identity of pandering politics. Just like Bush, McCain will blame someone else. He had 2 months before Barack Obama became the DNL and he comes with a one-day pick and vetting of Sarah Palin. McCain was just looking for the first available Republican woman that was young enough to swift vote women voters. As you all know the Convention has kick started the Campaign season and it is getting down and dirty already.Yesterday Senator Obama called on all supporters to boycott - the media channels that are willing to run a set of swiftboating ads that will portray him as a threat to National Security. These ads are being financed by a 501(c)4 group called the American Issues Project and is being financed by the same Republican billionaire and accomplice of the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth in the 2004 election cycle.

The US main stream cable channels are no longer an independent entity giving the public fair and unbiased reporting. After the repeal of the Glass Steagall Act in 1998 and the permission given to corporations to buy different kinds of outlets in the same media market - our country has not been the same. We lost the Gore and Kerry election due to continuous spin and distortion provided by talking heads on all these channels.

Should media outlets be independent of Political Parties? Should they be allowed to donate and influence election cycles?

We have been asking for better energy policies, environmental standards, healthcare for all, good quality high paying jobs - but do not see adequate action on any of these issue.

Watch convention on CSPAN, not networks or CNN

If you're frustrated with CNN coverage of the convention, go to CSPAN where there are no talking heads blocking the content. The "commentators" on CNN are complaining that there's not much content, but they're talking over the very content they say is missing. VERY, VERY, VERY annoying (but not surprising since they're more interested in hearing their own opinions than getting the info out). On CNN you didn't see the Republican representative from Iowa who spoke eloquently on why he is supporting Obama. You didn't see the Hispanic community organizer in Chicago who spoke about his gratitude for Obama's help and support in enrolling voters in the 1980s and 1990s. You didn't see the single mother of three who is going back to get her college degree because of Obama's campaign in Iowa. And on and on and on.

If you have friends who are struggling to decide, get them to watch CSPAN's coverage.

I guess this was a wise choice, considering that Americans expect at least one white balding man on every presidential ticket. I look forward to the day when that's not the case. NEW YORK (CNN) -- Russia invades Georgia and President Bush goes on vacation. Our president has spent one-third of his entire two terms in office either atCamp David , Maryland , or at Crawford , Texas , on vacation.

His time away from the Oval Office included the month leading up to 9/11, when there were signs Osama bin Laden was planning to attack America , and the timeHurricane Katrina destroyed the city of New Orleans .

Sen. John McCain takes weekends off and limits his campaign events to one a day. He made an exception for the religious forum on Saturday at Saddleback Church in Southern California .

I think he made a big mistake. When he was invited last spring to attend a discussion of the role of faith in his life with Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, atMessiah College in Pennsylvania , McCain didn't bother to show up. Now I know why.

It occurs to me that John McCain is as intellectually shallow as our current president. When asked what his Christian faith means to him, his answer was a one-liner. "It means I'm saved and forgiven." Great scholars have wrestled with the meaning of faith for centuries. McCain then retold a story we've all heard a hundred times about a guard in Vietnam drawing a cross in the sand.

Asked about his greatest moral failure, he cited his first marriage, which ended in divorce. While saying it was his greatest moral failing, he offered nothing in the way of explanation. Why not?

Throughout the evening, McCain chose to recite portions of his stump speech as answers to the questions he was being asked. Why? He has lived 71 years. Surely he has some thoughts on what it all means that go beyond canned answers culled from the same speech he delivers every day.

He was asked "if evil exists." His response was to repeat for the umpteenth time that Osama bin Laden is a bad man and he will pursue him to "the gates of hell." That was it.

He was asked to define rich. After trying to dodge the question -- his wife is worth a reported $100 million -- he finally said he thought an income of $5 million was rich.

One after another, McCain's answers were shallow, simplistic, and trite. He showed the same intellectual curiosity that George Bush has -- virtually none.

Where are John McCain's writings exploring the vexing moral issues of our time? Where are his position papers setting forth his careful consideration of foreign policy, the welfare state, education, America 's moral responsibility in the world, etc., etc., etc.?

John McCain graduated 894th in a class of 899 at the Naval Academy at Annapolis . His father and grandfather were four star admirals in the Navy. Some have suggested that might have played a role in McCain being admitted. His academic record was awful. And it shows over and over again whenever McCain is called upon to think on his feet.

He no longer allows reporters unfettered access to him aboard the "Straight Talk Express" for a reason. He simply makes too many mistakes. Unless he's reciting talking points or reading from notes or a TelePrompTer, John McCain is lost. He can drop bon mots at a bowling alley or diner -- short glib responses that get a chuckle, but beyond that McCain gets in over his head very quickly.

I am sick and tired of the president of the United States embarrassing me. The world we live in is too complex to entrust it to someone else whose idea of intellectual curiosity and grasp of foreign policy issues is to tell us he can look into Vladimir Putin's eyes and see into his soul.

George Bush's record as a student, military man, businessman and leader of the free world is one of constant failure. And the part that troubles me most is he seems content with himself.

He will leave office with the country $10 trillion in debt, fighting two wars, our international reputation in shambles, our government cloaked in secrecy and suspicion that his entire presidency has been a litany of broken laws and promises, our citizens' faith in our own country ripped to shreds. Yet Bush goes bumbling along, grinning and spewing moronic one-liners, as though nobody understands what a colossal failure he has been.

I fear to the depth of my being that John McCain is just like him.

John McCain is going to select Sen. Joe Lieberman (I) CT as his Vice-Presidential running mate. There are two reason for this selection. It display's McCain's bi-partisanship muscle. The second reason requires some set up. First, John McCain's been dropping Judeo-Christian like it's hot lately. He's planning to paint Sen. Obama as a Muslim v. the Christian and the Jew. Are McCain supporters living in a cocoon? Do they realize that they support a candidate who will do whatever it takes to get elected? Does this not matter to them? This is the same man who has the audacity to accuse Obama of preferring to lose “The War” than to win an election?

My contention is that McCain would rather sell his soul JUST to win an election!

What does McCain have to do with Rep. John Lewis (GA)? According to the article, that’s exactly what Rep. Lewis is wondering. (I have to insert LOL here just for the effects)

According to Mother Jones’ Blog, “During Saturday's presidential forum at Rick Warren's California megachurch, John McCain was asked to name the "three wisest people" he would "rely heavily on" if elected president. He didn't cite close confidantes Phil Gramm and Randy Scheunemann, possibly because they have gotten McCain into trouble politically. Instead McCain chose Gen. David Petraeus; former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, one of his economic advisers; and Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), a leading figure in the civil rights movement. “

Disclaimer: I know I may not change the minds of supporters about voting for McCain, as there is no one who will convince ME not to vote for Obama. However, here is information that demonstrates the level to which McCain will stoop that further proves to me and others that he actually thinks the American public is stupid. I, for one, don't like my intelligence insulted, and neither should anyone else.

The Saddleback forum was a disappointment to me as Pastor Warren insisted that Obama “play by the rules,” yet he sanctioned McCain, then, and still does, apparently, to break them (based on his appearance on Larry King). This, to me, is indicative of the Republican mindset. They think they are above the rules.

As hatred simmers in Afghanistan,and we have made the Taliban stronger by making more people want to enlist with the Taliban. The pot waits to boil over. We must intervene without military, as possible, and give women more of a voice in the country. Financial independence for women, education and no berkas.

Dysfunctional men raising kids leads to more violent kids. Kids who think it is normal for men to beat their mothers have a value system that is incongruent with American life and values.

During 4 years of war in Iraq, John McCain voted on the war. During 4 years of genocide in Dart Fur, John McCain didn’t slip a cup of coffee. John McCain has still not spoke up on what is currently going on in Dart Fur. Truth is McCain doesn’t care: They haven’t donated millions of dollars to his campaign. John McCain has spoken on every issues concerning Oil interest. He hasn’t spoken up on the crisis in Myanmar where they have not gotten the U.S. government aid as of yet. John McCain hasn’t spoken up on the captured American’s in Columbia – or met the freed ones. John McCain hasn’t talked about the current crisis in Mexico with our food – or the problem in North and South Korea with American beef. When soaring food prices triggered rioting and demonstrations around the world this spring, the media began issuing reports of a global food crisis. But in many parts of the world, food insecurity and malnutrition are recurring crises, which require ongoing attention. John McCain hasn’t spoke or voted on any bill, sponsor any bills to address these major Foreign Problems. While Barack Obama has a team doing the foreign work McCain talks about: America which has TheFanNJ’s endorsement: “There would be no inpatients if not for the AmeriCares hospital,” a doctor at the Qingchuan facility told AmeriCares relief workers a few weeks ago. The opening of the facility has enabled this doctor and his colleagues to treat between 200-300 inpatients within the hospital’s first four weeks’ of operation. Residents of China’s Sichuan Province are still facing many obstacles as they recover from the deadly 7.9-magnitude earthquake of May 12, but worries about health care and medical treatment have receded since the opening of two AmeriCares field hospitals in the area.” This is in Asia, and in Africa Barack Obama was the first to speak up on Dart Fur and got smashed by the media for doing so. When Dart Fur was a hot button issue because of the Olympics: John McCain still hasn’t released a statement about the destruction in Dart Fur. Why Sudan doesn’t have the million dollars to give McCain so he can speak up and push the issue.

John McCain:

Wants to talk about Georgia, and how the Russians are invading Georgia. What John McCain won’t tell the American people that he has over 2.8 million dollar in campaign donations from lobbyist that are from Georgia. John McCain knew the only way to bring voters back to his side is to have everyone talk about war and foreign affairs. John McCain is about the same old politics in Washington. When fear and scare doesn’t work – we have war and I am the only one to lead in the battle because I have military experience.

While Barack Obama was enforcing the Middle East agenda that John McCain pushed. John McCain was crying about Obama being: “The One.” Now that OIL, and OIL profits is on the line John McCain is that great foreign leader that will not speak up on Dart Fur. Will not speak up the problem with AID in Myanmar, even after he spoke to the Dalai Lama.

John McCain is about more of the same: OIL and OIL. While Barack Obama was campaigning with Hillary Clinton in the race on history – John McCain was sitting in meetings with lobbyist from Georgia, lobbyist from DHL, lobbying on how much money can they donate to John McCain’s campaign.

If John McCain was so great at foreign affairs he would have a team working on these affairs, and speaking up on them: Like Barack Obama. Barack Obama’s Change Campaign has fought every single issue, while Barack Obama has voted on these issues. Barack Obama has been for the people and that is why the people work hard for Barack Obama. We need a change in Washington, and John McCain will be more of the same: OIL Companies controlling the way we govern. That's why TheFanNJ has been on Barack Obama's side and that why Omar Dyer has been apart of every issues in America with community based organizations. The knock on these is We sell Kool-aid. Well it's cool to help those with Aid, and what Omar Dyer has done over the last two years have been mock and displayed as cynical cries on moronic claims by the G.O.P. brand name.

Early today, Senator McCain summoned television crews.. so he could make a speech on his position regarding the deadly crisis between Russia and Georgia. The effort was to show his expertise when it comes to international relations. The first thing I noticed, was how the wrinkly white haired dude (as referred to by Paris Hilton) pronounced the name of the Georgian President... three different ways... and ALL of them badly wrong.

Even if you give him a pass on a tough to spell name like Mikheil Saakashvili.. it's impossible to ignore three parts of his speech were lifted from Wikipedia. Even though news of this became public knowledge a little after noon, neither Fox (as expected) nor CNN bothered to mention the transgression... preferring to continue their preoccupation with the Edward's indiscretion.

With the Olympics bumping Meet The Press... I watched CNN's Reliable Sources, instead of catching it via the podcast later. I was eager to see a discussion about the Washington Post travesty - addressed in my previous Blog Posting.. WP Defends Milbank Harm to Obama With Lie.

Until I have a chance to watch the recording... I would like to think I nodded off at some point and missed the segment I wanted to see. Although, I don't think I went to sleep. I think Reliable Source host Howard Kurtz ignored the biggest media faux pas of the summer.

An altercation inside Wellston City Hall Friday afternoon ended with two police chiefs pulling guns and the mayor being treated by paramedics.

City leaders said there have been rampant burglaries, serious drug problems, and now this: a fight between two chiefs.

The Pine Lawn Police Chief said his department received a call for an officer in need of aid just before 3 p.m. at city hall. Officers met with the current police chief, who claimed to have been assaulted by the assistant chief.

That individual who also claimed to have been assaulted was previously in the chief's position before being demoted.

"It got physical, a weapon was pulled and we are doing an investigation and we are in contact with the st louis county prosecutors office," said Pine Lawn Chief Rickey Collins.

It's not clear what lead to the fight, but Pine Lawn officials said the mayor and board members requested police investigate.

"Chief Cossia stated to chief Gilmore that he had no reason to put his hand on him and he pulled a gun and he told him, 'don't you ever put your hands on me,'" said police clerk Kaneka Thames.

Witnesses said the mayor of Wellston tried to step in and break up the fight but became overexerted due to a heart condition. An ambulance was called and he was treated outside the police station. No arrests were made but the assistant chief has been suspended.

A report will soon be forwarded to the St. Louis County Prosecutors

CNN's big thing today (July 29, 2008) is to ask if Barack Obama is being "presumptuous". They asked if he was being presumptuous by going on his tour of the Middle East and Europe. Now, they are asking if he is presumptuous for saying that the odds of his winning are good, but the election will be difficult.

How stupid! What does this mean? Why do the media go on jags, especially meaningless jags? What is presumptuous about saying the road to victory looks good but will be difficult? CNN itself has been reporting that Obama is ahead in the national polls. Maybe I will find a new news source.

Barack's Position on the US Military Surge in Iraq...Right On Target

This message is about Barack's position on the US military surge in Iraq. I think Barack was absolutely right.

The points I would like to see/hear him make repeatedly are as follows:

1.) Iraq still has a major sectarian divide, for which there is no military solution.

2.) Only a political solution by Iraqis can bring Iraq together. Powell and others said the same thing.

3.) Without resolving the sectarian divide politically, but maintaining the US military surge, the US could inadvertently be perceived as occupiers in Iraq that would be siding with the most powerful sectarian group in the Iraqi government. This could also undermine the sense of urgency for such a group to make political overtures to other Iraqi groups in order to stabilize the country; as the most powerful group would have little incentive to do so because it may perceive itself as being supported by the US military that keeps the violence down. The most powerful sectarian group could even adopt the position of willingly not making political overtures to other groups, while “hiding behind the shield" of a US military surge. That would be clear manipulation of our military by a foreign government.

4.) Decreasing US troop presence in Iraq, placing the responsibility squarely on the shoulders of Iraqis to bring their country together, is the right thing. The people of Iraq have to learn that violence is not the solution for bringing their country together. Many Iraqis probably already realize this.

5.) It wasn't just the US military surge that led to a reduction in violence, and without other Iraqi involvement independent of the surge strategy, violence across Iraq and in the captial could still be higher.

6.) John McCain's campaign, and the conservative media, are trying to over simplify a complex issue, without giving full credit to all the factors (particularly groups of cooperating Iraqis) involved that led to the lower level of violence in Iraq.

Call me hyper if you will, or totally distrustful of CNN (that's true), but ever since the trip to Iraq, Afghanistan etc. began, the only pictures of Senator Obama that CNN publishes are those where he is surrounded by African American troops.

It's almost as though CNN is trying to say, Hey...the only ones here glad to see him are Black. We both know that's not true.

Americans are, by habit, too lazy to read and are primarily visual. This smacks of subliminal conditioning of the American electorate.

Of course, as I said, I could simply be hyper and totally distrustful of CNN....and wrong. But, I don't think so.
