It has been a tough year, but I can honestly say, "I SEE CHANGE". When I first became a supporter of President Obama -- I knew NOTHING about politics, seriously. I know more about politics now by watching most of President's Obama's videos and reading just about every proclamation he has signed this year. Amazing!
I have faith in our President and believe he carries divine wisdom and is sincere toward the AMERICAN people, as well as the world. I have attended several OFA events and have signed up to just about every social media site to obtain "THE TRUTH" about President Barack Obama & his awesome administration.
I am happy to be apart of this blessed community of supporters and look forward to meeting more individuals like myself who desire not only change, but PEACE.

Created was the Moiré Arena, the realm wherein and whereby all movement and leveraging is accomplished for the amplification of the monadic reality

whose seat lies within the depths of eternal Timelessness. Its charge is to issue into the arena of being. This realm of existence is the Matrix or Arena of

Being in Time/Space where learning through the Laws of Consequence undulates within all its parts through the sequences of events held within the dictates

of apparent time. The program of being is projected into the realm form or programmed broadcast from infinity, where all is held in the bosom of creative

monadic mentality -- seat of Eternity or No Time. This realm of eternity is not unlike The Dreamscape where all who exist in this "being state" return home

periodically or every night to recharge the collective intellect on all levels and dimensions. It has been said that one dies every night when they enter into the

dream world. The Truth is not far from this.

This entire arena is the projection lived within and broadcast by the One aspect of the multifaceted reality. We are the parts of its Whole and have always

been and will always be. Now, the Part shall know the Whole from the above to the below and back.

Ageless were the many portals of Goge to the Omegon called Claronu, upon his return to the manifest realms of the Moiré Arena. Ancient data was/is

proportional to the collection of localizations. Claronu encompassed almost all of the known factors of the sectors of Goge. His knowledge in virtual

localizations represented unlimited manifestations and countless creative duties. To some facets of the all, his experiences in Time could be equated equally

to Timelessness for soulular amplification -- The Maximus (Ageless traveler).

New, because of its weight, was this experience of being reconstituted into the virtual worlds, as he had been so many times in the past as a lower form.

But this reincarnation was with more power and expanded data. To be called into the pixilated atomic structures was unexpected for him as he had

become monadic in his joining of the Whole (the All), and expansive had become his duties in creating new universes for higher experimentation into other

structures never experienced prior by his monadic sector. What could this emergency call be in reference to? What cause and call from the materialized

worlds would suggest this act? As a former psycho-cognitive surveyor, he pushed his mindscape to the limit in order to comprehend the All's rationale as

he flashed toward becoming once again in linear Time. He would reconstitute fully Omni Omegon upon his arrival -- the ultimate physical form in hardcopy

upon and within the Time/Space realm.

Light was all about his programmed rejoining as he swirled at the threshold of his old Hytonian Goge-portal. He knew what had happened in the Time

worlds now for all of it is always visible to the members of the Whole who reside with the All in soulular localization. Even Claronu's essence was still

monitoring his light-form from Timelessness while his cursor-being was present in broadcast - the realm of the matrix. Claronu's sensory focus was on this

mission while some Omniscient need had interlaced the apparent knowns to force this sudden return. The old Gardened Planet was his destination as he

descended through duration toward its beautiful blue glow. It was becoming larger and larger in his visual reader.

As Earth's blue reflection melded with his own emission of light, he pondered upon what great event had apparently taken course to beckon his return, for

this was part of his making long ago as it was all other beings' mission in this sector of Goge. It was the collective coherency and the ultimate constitution of

being. Was it a "singular" finality that was drawing him responsibly back to his old mission? Familiarity chose him for this duty.

Claronu moved through space/time as a stealthy ripple of spiritual assemblage nearing to the various structures of atmosphere and descended slowly as an

Omni Omegon. He would remain silent and unseen until his visual presence was necessary. "I will land in this desolate and cold land where we sent our

Passion Message to humanity not long ago within my Scepter's Configuration. This site Takion once visited for I feel his presence somewhat dissipated in

specific imagery." "My friend whom I have never touched in atomic vibrations of immediacy, but none-the-less, I know he and I are like soulular beings of

the same vicinity." We are relatives in the monadic sectors.

Claronu paused encompassing the integral environment. Its broadcast beauty impacted the centers for pride and accomplishment still present in his

memory's hologramic program. The processes of building this projection and its initial order were accomplished by the Archeons whose programs for

physical manifestation had been totally complete and beyond perfect. Automatic genomic DNA programming was progressive and adaptable to nuances of

rippling change that manifest in his idyllic form. As his physical form created, his mission came into focus. His targeted contact was Takion the newly

blessed Light Being whom he had cognitively and historically come to know on the Enmayi world. What were millions of years here, were picoseconds to

Claronu.

Claronu interfaces with Takion's mental psyche and explores his mind unperceived by Takion consciously.

Takion had been upon the Gardened One's moon where he had been assigned to do research on the planet called Earth by its newly arrived souls. Takion

had observed a comet making its way toward Earth many of the moon's orbits ago. It was nearing the planet and had not been thwarted by the burgeoning

advanced civilization's scientific community on the planet's surface. Many plans had been formed to fight this new threat from deep space but none had

worked. Takion watched as the large Comet of the Ages was trapped in Earth's Orbital structure and began to break up into thousands of pieces. One

large fragment almost as large as a portion of the moon itself was in the process of entering the atmosphere of the Earth. Takion had prayed and localized

with the All in an attempt to save the Earth from such a catastrophe.

Takion had left the base on the moon to race to Earth to be with his family who lived in the mountains near the major population centers of Earth. But he

soon discerned that his speedily attempted descent toward saving his relatives was hopeless. He watched as the Comet's greater assemblage began to

break away and ice particles sped downward to rain the surface of the Earth with millions of fragments drifting into a plunge pattern toward the surface of

the planet. Whole lakes of melted ice began to impact the surface of once great civil-centers of human development. Expansive explosions could be seen

from space as the chunks as large as mountains struck the upper sections of the globe. Then, with more than half of the comet still locked in orbit, the

major part began to be pulled into a chaotic course charted to the small oceans surrounding the Attallus regions. When it hit, Takion saw the gargantuan

elliptical explosions of the collision.

It could easily be determined that great tsunamis were spreading as grand tidal waves across the globe sending vast sections of the Earth's oceans over

once inhabited land. As the waves spread over the sections, he could see that the weight and speed factors were crushing the land down under the power

of racing water. Nothing was left in its course of travel.

Takion reached his former home on a mountain top retreat, which he owned and shared with his family. It was apparently empty of any human pattern for

existence - all his relations must have fled and left only patterns of their hurried escape/s. As he secured his shema (space sheath) he descended upon the

surface roof of his old home. All that he could find was the base structural installations of what once was the shelter for his family and its many members.

All was hastily abandoned. From the mountain advantage he observed millions of humans below in death bound attempts to save themselves from the

rapidly expanding destruction caused by the tidal waves. From his vantage point he could see the futility of their attempts. Apparently few had heeded the

warnings he had sent many months prior.

Few had the advantage of a Shema Craft as he commanded.

He watched what appeared to him as the final destruction of all human civilization. It had to be, since he had seen the evidence prior to coming to this

landing site of worldwide destruction and the potential of the remaining fragments of the comet in various stages of orbital decay. Some of the massive form

looked like it would gradually decay over the next century...thus constantly rain more hydra upon the surface of the Earth - an eternal flood.

I — John Jay, have lived beyond any man I know and have kept it a secret since my early years of existence. Then, I was privileged to have been born

during the last years of Earth's Golden Epoch now some 11,500 years ago. My father was privileged enough to be one of the most advanced of all souls

who lived on this planet, a scientist and member of the League of All. Some at the time said his name was thought exemplified in physical form. His works

have been my guiding light since those ancient of days and I have tired to escort his words down to this very period conveying to humanity his great and

grand works. His linkage to the source of our very being here in Time/Space was unbroken in soulular communication. If ever a man knew everything in

this forum of existence, he was that man. His life was a normal 137 orbits of the Goge Portal what is now called the Sun of this solar system. His father

was Takion who has lived forever. I now know his secret also for he developed the Jomon culture of ancient Japan. I was given that name later in my life

to carry on his and my father's work, but we will come to that later in this long, long tale that I am sure is the only link to who and what we all are here in

Time/Space.

My home was Ubnake a place near what is now called Cuba I am transcribing this material now from a hidden place deep under that old mountainous

abode...my former youthful home. Things were very different back when I first became manifest here in this realm of the Moiré Arena, the focused ground

-point of the eye of God within this dimension. It was a home filled with excitement and much learning from the instant I arrived here -- my father made

sure of that. He was already very old when he fathered me to my mother, one of his assistants in the most important aspects of his research into how we

should attain coherency in this realm. I was my father's own experiment in prolonging existence as a being in one form. It is this abode where I live that

contains the secret to my longevity. But I shall dwell upon the how of that later in this transmission.

My becoming is so involved with the exactness of my father's findings on human existence in this manifestation of being here in physical form that I have

had to maintain incremental and precise controls in how I leverage each and every second of my movement from one point of being to another in this

world. It has taken its toll on me mentally and physically yet he trained me well in this strange endeavor that few will ever need experience. I do not suggest

its regimen to anyone.

My span of being here has been 11,500 years as I communicate to my beloved friends of the Realm of the Moiré Arena. I have been the founder of this

society down through the ages, always to outlive all my beloved friends -- brothers and sisters have you always been. Though our group has been

extremely small, we have always had the edge in all earthly conflicts by being able to interface with the "then" powers that be, to offer our insight and

knowledge which has always been superior due to the hard work of my father, his old friends and those who worked on the many projects as was

standard for his great and grand generation and the one that spawned them. The Golden age has at least tricked down to the present even though humanity

has suffered numerous catastrophes over the last 11,000 years. The Initial calamity was indeed the blow that almost destroyed all of us on this planet and

in this sector of Goge. I will reiterate how we saw it coming, dealt with it and survived its havoc within this thesis.

As I have lived through, with those beloved of you, each and every epoch of striving here on Earth though most of you did not survive the periods of

history, your work and words still travel as the basis of our total knowing. The libraries we have established and the one here in this vault of vaults attest to

the dedication you all have striven for over the many thousands of years will someday come to the real world...when it is ready. It will be your testament.

Alas, that world or this one now, is still not ready for our knowledge and enlightenment. I will not be able to carry on much more and it will need to left up

to you to form the ultimate guild to see the day of reckoning so all will finally know their own being.

My initial start was in a wonderful world where all human interface and adjustment was finally worked out with all the parameters known and in full

utilization even to the point of achieving everlasting life in one from through the entire test of existence rather than the reincarnation of another body to

continue the quest. My father's Great Grandfathers had already learned the secrets of existence here in this realm...it was almost old even to them. Their

lives were long in comparison to yours.

They had the knowledge of their existence from the beginning of their dispensation some 4 million years ago. It was never lost when they came through the

portals of Goge as Light beings. Now they lie at the threshold waiting for the door to open so they may return to their true source, as we will also. Those,

our ancient of days.

CREATING BACKGROUND MATERIAL

• Discuss the knowledge of the Golden Epoch. Show how it covered the genetic engineering of future forms, and the mental journey that included religion,

science, and philosophy that reflected the mirror of being or symbols of deity. It was associated with truth rather than the scientific process of today. Evil

was overcome due to the understanding of the sence of worth and the ill effects of negative aspects to the soulular traveler. All gestalt aspects were

followed in any endeavor. When aspects were explored, it was the related areas that were also addressed as well as the direct causes and effects.

Because of this advanced state of what some called "Omegonship" humanity was able to dwell in a complex yet peaceful state of behavior -- what scientist

now reference as a Phase 2 civilization, but one connected directly to the Primary Technology. Every field was known because every person was schooled

in their talent mission to strive for worth at every event sequence of their lives. Each and every person was born herein with a talent for some aspect of

existence. The talent was known early in their childhood and it was the point-of-departure for all future training and learning. The great multifaceted being

was complete in its holospirited existence with all parts identified and working in unison in the coherency of life...we were all in a high state of Love.

• There was no need for government or controlling factions in that old world due to the saturation of understanding within the family of man. There was

only one real way to be. The ultimate way. Dialogue was instilled within each and every one of us to strive to attain worth in every endeavor of our

development. Research had not stopped because we had attained utopia, it was creativity that came naturally to all of us to present a different facet of

understanding to every event sequence. There was never a more colorful world because we went beyond color and the elements and principles of design

and chaos was but unperceived unity to us. Chaos dynamics were known to kick in and we developed mechanisms to experience chaos in a slow motions

means so our minds could understand the symbolism of its presentation. We learned to live at the speed of Light. But our passion was to live with what

brought humanity to its primary realm. The Arena, where all were tested for worth and worthiness. If there were those who did not strive for advancement

beyond their talents and abilities and committed a crime against any man or woman the collective counsel would convene and if it were the decision of unit

of humanity, they would be sent away to live in the wilderness with other animals. Few were sent away due to the many attempts to advance the mentality

of the individual/s.

• They called our ancients the Atlantians or the Atlantis civilization. Though that word was indeed associated with our culture, it was not our word for

ourselves. We were the Enmayi Omegons a civilization that was not large or overpowering in numbers but we were the proprietors of Earth and it was our

home to learn in and through. We achieved the most advanced civilization due to our mentality. We were all educated on a constant basis. Trained to attain

worthiness in every aspect of our focus. In other words, we tried very, very hard. Most of our knowledge was attained through our methods of personal

memory. To put it differently, we used what we had and though we developed methods to store our memory for future generations in a computer-like

fashion, we believed in personal relay of data. Collectively we were the grand depositories of knowledge. Our language was massive and highly

developed. It was iconic in nature with words and pictures being incorporated into one means of expression. Later after the great catastrophe, this

language broke into the many that we now see spread across the Earth. It once was one large and comprehensive body of knowledge expressed in precise

words and symbols. The language was based on the genetic code that humanity is only now rediscovering. The genetic code was the primary objective

when humanity first passed through the portal of Goge. It is all we came with when we came here. What some call DNA was our point of departure in

creating the realms seen now on an ever-changing matrix that few minds now understand. This knowledge was onboard our minds the day we arrived here

in our forefathers Ult-Shemas (spacecraft or a form of broadcast burst-packets).

• The entire Earth was covered to some degree or another with human population when I was borne here. Though some parts of the livable ground were

highly inhospitable to the human form, we developed systems to work around the Ice that began to form some 40,000 years ago at the poles. Much of the

Earth was covered in Ice and was very different places in comparison to the present state of the environment. Days were mostly calm and weather was

less than since the catastrophe. Population of the whole Earth did not exceed 500 million souls. Yet, in the distant past, some 100,000 years ago, life was

very compact on this planet -- not unlike the present time, 2008. The oceans were less and were almost 1,000 feet more shallow though the mountains

were higher; there were always Ice caps on almost all of them as they stayed there year round. Most humans lived in the lowlands not far from the sea.

Farming and Agriculture was highly advanced with canals and planting domes everywhere present to use the extremely active and fertile soil. Large animals

were created to assist in the farming and arboreal secession via genetic development. Each animal was developed for a specific talent to assist human

developers in the Primary Technology Research. Harmony of these systems was then, highly developed.

• Micro and Macro systems were highly developed during those days. We understood how powerful the micro systems were so we could build very large

structures and machines to manage the land and develop the resources of the Earth. Extracting energy from the vacuum of either drove our power

system/s. Mercury was as today's oil industry. It helped power our Ult-Shemas in all forms down to our Shemas. We did not utilize the wheel as much as

is used in the civilization of today. We had few roadways or expressways due to our travel via animals or flying in our Shema-systems. Most access to

Earth was accomplished by entry points which were found all about the lands. Their forms which were pyramid shaped had moving stairs so people could

move up into the Shemas (Mercury/Plasma Catalytic Devices) You may currently know of this old system as MEG overunity systems or adjacent devices

called Brown's Gas systems. There was no cost to travel anywhere on the Earth. There was no cost at all. We traded anything of high value for like value

or gave of our collective and vast wealth. Energy was free and available to everyone for their movement utilization whether bodily or used for simple home

states. Almost everyone had just about everything anyone else had and to envy another was not a positive trait to create worth in an individual. Achieving

worth was our highest goal for each of us had a mission in life.

• An Earth Overview: The condition of the Earth some 12,000 years ago. The geological environment is much different from that of 2012 or our time. The

Earth is full of extremes. Very cold regions and uniformly perfect climate for other regions.

In the fifth century, Saint Augustine indicated that God created the universe out of and outside of time. Timelessness is an interesting subject to think on

scientifically as well as spiritually. Ask a scientist the ultimate why, and he will say we came from no thing. Then ask him to explain what no thing is -- It will

probably look about like the clothes that the emperor was wearing, the day the little boy decided to think for himself and find deeper meaning in the

apparentness found inside the soul. Half of science is an assumption (educated guess) -- the other half manifests in a fabricated illusion built upon known

parts with no relationship to the totality. Science is done while we preoccupy ourselves with "their" reality. Humanity must return to waiting for the one

who whispers to our deepest consciousness...the truths of being. Einstein called this mental-abyss, the little "Old Man" inside of us. He may point to the

Burgeoning of Humanity.

It was once said that the face of God is a fraction past, and inclusive of the optical nerve and what drives it. Godhood is not necessarily conceptual, it (the

Absolute) is being and becoming and only the created (crystallized) can be thought upon as it issues forth from the generative order or the Void that we do

not presently understand. The Absolute is ongoing, nonlinear, non-local (to our perception), self-similar, self-organizing, and creative. Whatever else it is

cannot be known by one mind (a part or child of...), total perception can only be known by totality. The part can never know the whole while it is the part.

It must join the whole for total knowing. It is believed that Buddha did this and Christ was always this. The "Me" must embrace (love, know, join or be

aware of) the Other, because the Other is the Me (the all-self). We are in this together. The joining becomes the Essence.

Einstein offered many clues to the real secret to knowing our existence. It has been reported that he somehow believed deeply in mystical possibilities,

knowing that a balance of science and spiritual concepts held the secrets of true knowing. These double icons of wisdom, working in unison, would in the

end put mankind on a new threshold of understanding. Each point of departure would really reinforce and compliment the other when humanity finally

adopted the right path of perceptive ascension. Einstein's quest was to attain the gestalt-view and his life showed that one without the other was lame. Yet

our scientific and religious society continues to polarize the great avenues of wisdom to fragment humanity into fruitless pursuits through ambitious

leveraging for power. Polarization may be the ultimate evil.

The Universe and Manifest Mind -- A theory

There exists in the realm of experiences much more than the big bang as a source for the universe's beginnings and our subsequent introduction into being.

Consider the concepts of holography, feedback loops, fractals, the broadcast of the electromagnetic spectrum, quantum theory (local and nonlocality), and

many other subjects of creative delineation through scientific or deific manifestation. The fact remains that "mind" is present in this continuum. Where does it

come from and how does it manifest?

Let us consider a new concept...Virtual Reality. It is a human endeavor to participate in a computer-created world via extra-electro-sensors such as

viewing goggles, gloves or a total sensor-suit. Those who immerse into this newly created world can experience perceptual stimuli that approach the visual

and tactile expressions of reality. The Department of Defense and NASA have plans to converge robotics with VR to allow a cybernaut to travel, work,

and fight in hostile environs while controlled by a human at a remote site. With such capabilities, we would be able to explore the universe from our own

living rooms --thereby experiencing vicariously the stimuli of pain, suffering and learning via feedback information from afar.

A Scenario

Imagine putting on a head-mounted display and body-sensor suit that would correspond to sensors in a robot that might be millions of miles away -- say

on Mars. You could actually become part of a cyber-being that would interact with the Martian environment. Turn your head and it reacts to your every

movement, and sensual stimuli from the planet causes you to react via feedback. You would be able to experience all the wonders of such a far away place

in a direct sensory manner. One wonders, would living through this vehicle eventually displace your understanding of true reality? What if you could

programme its memory with yours through DNA programming, then allow someone else on another shift to pick up and continue with his experiments and

adds his programmes or thoughts to the same robot? Each day the robot would become more sophisticated as its experiences multiplied. Later we could

add new advances in micro-machines and nanotechnology to create an evolving robot that would actually grow physically toward higher accomplishments.

It could be programmed to repair itself and perhaps even give a cyber-birth to new cyber-forms that would assist you in your exploration. With new

additions being developed back on Earth you could even get the feeling that you were on that planet instead of your robotic vehicle. You might get so good

at controlling more than one robot at a time that you would become a family or a nation of robots letting you experience the grandeur of multiple

personalities. What fun!

Discovering the Mystery

Intertwined in this "fun" experience is the length, width, breadth and timelessness of the greatest mystery of the universe. If we can attain the above

experience via VR in this rudimentary human invention, who is to say that this is not what is already happening to Godhead at this very instance. We were

created in his image. Who can refute that we are all an experiment of a higher being that is currently enjoying a broadcasted reality via quantum particles

that are electromagnetically constituted into this reality that we "think" we are experiencing right now. Hindu, the oldest religion on Earth, speaks of the

One with no second, who lives through all of us in his "playing." Is God playing life through us and we just forgot that we are part of another realm where

experiencing a VR is the preoccupation of timelessness?

Think of your own becoming. When you were conceived, you and your DNA program came into a body that was new and hard to maneuver in a physical

state. God's VR has a learning curve. You had to get familiar with the new apparatus. REASON or mind began to learn to use the Holy Temple. When a

baby first arrives on Earth he/she is mentally more a part of everything or what some call the Other or the Essence. Some say we are actually smarter at

birth and just learn to be somatically stupid. During the first few months, ego has not yet made its stand against the universe. The ego-image has not yet

formed until it begins to observe itself in the eye of the other. Mirroring sets the self in a reality that is shown or received via sensors. Sensory experiences

create the other for the individual. Soon you will learn to forget where you came from because of the dictates of this state. Learning to live in this physical

world is our crux of being...to become. We learn to stand upon our experiences as a cushion from the void (a place we only know of in another state). The

void represents the unknown or feeling of loneliness and awe. We feel very small against our lack of knowing. It has been posited that if we are not

observed by the other, we begin to feel lonely as if we do not exist. Recognition and observation is basic to (quantum) being for all that makes up the

universe. Worthiness began to set the stage for worship when mankind sought to remember his being in this physical state. Religion was once the science of

that being.

Do all of our religious writings suggest that at the core of those impassioned words lies the secret and the truth of our reality? Yes. Religious traditions say

that God gave us being and the Word -- REASON. Reason or mentality is our existence within the somatic-vehicular experience. Our bodies are our holy

temples or means of motivation in a physical state. We should not do harm to our Holy Temples. Another point of Reason is that we should love our

neighbors as we love ourselves. This may be because we are our neighbors as a result of their input to our being. It is possible that at the end of this God

projected VR, we'll learn that we did all those dirty deeds to ourselves. The above may be the Why of religion...a method to awaken to the real being

involved in this life episode.

Today almost all members of our scientific community are gradually coming to realize that reality is indeed beyond our current theories and some have

suggested that our environ is a God-like concept...the god of Mental Universal technology on an unbelievable scale...the quantum entity. Some say that the

universe is a massive computer where numbers are the language that it creates for its virtual reality from. When great scientists like David Bohm, Paul

Davies and others marvel that mankind can even contemplate the universe, what Bohm calls the holomovement -- a realm that is a manifestation or

broadcast of Being, progress in existential understanding is being made. How can mankind even think about something so magnificent as the makeup of

himself and the universe? Quantification is the key here -- to assign REASON is to measure knowing in a physical state. This universe may be a

combination of VR, quantum physics, nanotechnology, holography, fractal geometry, plasma physics, computational mirroring, inherent cosmological

understanding and much more. The possibility that we may discover the truth of what we are, might just be found in the Virtual Reality Synergism.

Over the next few years mankind will be subjected to the possibility of universal knowing on a scale that could only be called a "revelation." Soon,

humanity may learn that all those ancient words that our ancestors were in awe of, will suddenly come into a living understanding that will cause a new birth

of higher knowing. This new stage will amount to a Being full of billions and billions of experiences incorporated to embark upon a new direction of

increasing cognition and spirituality. Then mankind will leave this "wheel" (Earthly existence) and graduate to things that we can only dream of -- unless our

dreams are the reality of this VR? To think that this could happen was once laughed at by skeptics, but they probably have not had the experience of even

the current versions of Virtual Reality.

Getting a grip on reality

If people think VR is somewhat unbelievable, read this --technologists and scientists for business, the Department of Defense and NASA are working hard

to help us get more out of virtual reality. They are working on a kind of camera that will reach out and grab reality no matter where it is. They believe that,

if just a tiny particulate of the once known reality can be quantified (triangulated), then its reality can possibly be reconstituted using all the known equations

of today's mathematical (fractal geometry?) reality. What kind of camera could do this? Some call it a "reality-grabber."

The reality-grabber is a computerized configuration that can measure and organize the environ that it comes in contact with via conventional camera and

sophisticated digital scanning conversions of a multiplicity of electromagnetic data. Holography and fractal geometry would play an important role in the

output of its malleable and quantifiable data. Such a machine would also know where it is at all times in the physical environment as it relates to planetary

and Earthly data. With the above information and a "mirror" software ability to organize every little bit of information, such an apparatus could record and

distribute data that would make Virtual Reality as common as today's television only with billions of alternative programming options possible. Individuals

wishing to have their own interactive ability with the output program could easily experience any number of sequences that others may never stumble upon.

Variety would indeed be the spice of life.

When the RG becomes available to VR, think of all the possibilities for learning, travel and entertainment. Simulation of every physical task could be

available for instant enjoyment and replay. The reality-grabbers resolution of visual data will be astonishing, because holographic images (dynamic-data)

will be delivered for life-like learning or experiencing via any format of delivery with computer enhancement amplifying its data-signals whatever its

"footprint." The media will no longer be the message; instead -- the message will be the virtual experience. You will become Steven Spielberg because the

entire studio will be at your fingertips for editing, special effects, reshooting, sound track/s, lighting, mixing and output. There's no redoing the scene

because any and all possible alternatives could be reconstructed with the available data of the reality-grabber.

Ultra-vicarious experiences will be possible if the RG has just a few points to triangulate in order to reconstitute. We are talking about a world of instant

mirroring of reality for reuse. Its like a radio talk show that broadcasts a few seconds after the primary incidence except you can change its outcome for

interfacing and integration. This will allow many things: to replay reality, even get ahead of what is really happening so trial and error strategy can anticipate

what the outcome might be; to recreate and pre-create alternate case histories that aren't even history yet; to simulate the future. The idea of creating a

mirror world is perhaps so new that its potential to society is not totally extrapolatable.

I believe that one repercussion of the above technology will be, that we will have to rethink the concept of vocation. At this point in time, many people are

already out of a job because of burgeoning technology and its only getting worse. With this new powerful concept of Virtual Reality exploding into our

future, and because of the prospects of the reality-grabber, almost all creative informating (metamorphosis of media) activities will also ignite into a chaos

of information saturation. Consider that all of us will be showing-off the "systems" creativity, who will be around to buy when all of humanity is

experiencing the mindscape? Since technology replaces humanity, who will be able to afford it? Are we humans creating our own dead end? Or, are we

entering the process for creating the next world?

If we develop a reality-grabber that's better than the lens of the human mind, where will we find ourselves? True it will amplify our capabilities to that of

simulated godhood, but what about the experiential and educational equity to the rest of us? Some of us will become living gods -- being able to afford

the technology that will educate our children at a light-year/ lightspeed level over the common individual's inaccessiblity to the techworld. We will create the

ultimate disparity, opening ourselves up to polarizations that will need to be addressed in a civilization and world that can literally jump to a new punctuated

equilibrium -- creating a new Otherworld overnight. Conflict resolution will certainly be the business to be involved in, (lawyers and psychologists will have

more work) as humanity continues to become the behemoth that some of us once saw on our ever expanding horizon of cybermedia.

Overcoming the barriers to Mind and Body

The next step beyond the digitizing of reality will lead to the "beaming up of Scottie." Even now, scientists are working at breakneck speed to convert our

digital world to one embracing DNA and its dimensional enhancement of computing via four molecule combinations -- A T C G rather than 0 and 1. Thus,

we may begin to understand the ancient messages of Brahma (Hari the four-faced) who, according to Hindu tradition, was the instrument of creation in

conjunction with the First Cause. Here we may rediscover knowledge that humanity once took for granted. Once humanity unites the disciplines of Genetic

Engineering with the symbol of the ancient caduceus, which is DNA's double helix, then we will begin to create tools that will build a new and higher

understanding of universal purpose. Building the super-mind via the tools of DNA through the amplification of neuronic-technology (neurons of the human

brain) will set our flight from Earth toward the super-universe. Before this happens, mankind will need to fully understand the connection between himself

and the Divine act of creation including the true understanding of Light and Mind.

A Website For The People

Recently, our President talked about our country’s need for job creation and advancement of American Businesses. This is a suggestion about how we can make that happen by working together. A suggestion of a way that we can generate rapid job growth for our citizens and develop customers for our businesses, both large and small, (and even new and emerging businesses are included), and has the capacity to refill the coffers of our Nations Communities.

This Website concept has been created, then developed to be inclusionary of all American’s – those who already have established businesses and for those who are at the beginning stages of turning their dreams into reality and starting emerging businesses of their own.

It is common knowledge that small business develops 71% of our jobs and that large businesses have assisted in forming strong and stable foundations within our communities for generations. Both are healthy aspects of our nation.

Although, I realize that this concept has the capacity to develop great earnings, it will take me much longer to assemble the individuals required to transform this Website Concept into reality – than it will take our leaders and various experts; and jobs for our citizens and business growth is needed now.

I have additional ideas for the development and enhancement of this Website. And a large portion of the earnings from the Memberships of the Website itself is intended to used to extend additional assistance to our citizens, in the form of Small Business Grants and Scholarships for our country's Students. And of course, the Website will be self-supporting.

At this point, my focus is on finding ways to uplift our citizens, stabilize our businesses, and increase the steady growth of our communities. We have the technology to achieve this goal and develop the win-win world that we know we can create. And, you know where I stand, determined to uphold a positive approach.

New Website – While reading an article this morning, a concept came to my mind that I think could draw the interest of our people; a new kind of Website that creates jobs for our citizens, revenue for our Businesses and a new fast-paced tax-base system for our American Communities. Please, be patient with the long description; as there are many components that build on each other to make this Website a profitable, attractive, and enjoyable asset that develops rapid job creation, flourishing businesses and uplifts our Nation’s Communities.

Business Idea: This is a website idea that has the potential to develop regular visitors, educate us about our Nations many Cities and their surrounding Communities and expand our cultural understanding of each other. Additionally, for folks who enjoy traveling and visiting other places in our country, (and the world), they will be enabled to do so from the comfort of their own homes. This concept is easy to expand and during this discussion, I will refer to this New Website as Travel@Home.com or “The People’s” Website. This Website also has the ability to open the doors of our businesses, which is discussed at length in the Website Experience section. Basic Concept: Relax for a moment and picture in your mind one community that you have lived in during your life. As you remember, “see” the streets, the neighborhoods, the parks, the libraries and the stores, as you “travel through town.” Now, include the surrounding countryside, the mountains, the creeks, and other areas that exist at that location. The People’s Website offers our American Citizens the opportunity to regularly go to their hometowns or travel to places that they would like to visit.

The Television Travel Programs that are frequently available on our Public Broadcasting Stations, KPBS, (which is associated with UCSD), already has a lot of video that shows various communities and the neat attractions, businesses and scenic views of particular locations in our nation. This video can be edited to create a seamless view of many of our communities and landmark areas. (Other T.V. Channels also have collections of Video that show many of our Nations communities and focuses on the unique and magnificent architecture of the various buildings that were developed during the 18th and 19th Century’s. There are also Video Travel Logs of our communities and those in Foreign Nations as well. However, while starting up the Website the initial focus will be on the Communities within America).

For Example:

In San Diego, there have already been numerous television projects created that focus on various communities and suburbs, such as, Old Town, the Gas Lamp District, and even Little Italy. There are places and buildings in these communities that still attract hundreds of thousands of tourists every year because of their unique history and architectural design. By combining these clips in a seamless way, the city of San Diego, can be created for the Website; and then, offered to citizens throughout our nation, as a Travel Destination. This idea can easily be extended to develop other communities as well.

Once an Individual becomes a Member of The Peoples Website, they can select a community and then “Travel” through the town, and visit the stores, museums and other areas where they are encouraged to shop and see the sites. Or, they can join with family members and friends, (who also become Website Members), and spend a day at the World’s Largest Mall. (Once the basic configuration and design of the Website Travel Area’s are developed, the options for Travel Locations will also expand to include additional communities).

Many people love to travel and go back to places where they have lived before; but, for whatever myriad of reasons, just haven't had the opportunity or time to literally travel. Members will be provided the opportunity to pick one community, then “travel there and visit” that community for a year, for the Standard Membership Fee. When individuals become active members – they can choose to visit a community where they previously lived or visited; as well as select places to visit that they have always wanted to go to or visit exotic locations that they always wanted to explore, (the Grand Canyon, Big Sur, or our National Parks). An additional bonus for some individuals is that this Website can assist people “to see” the places where they intend to go in the future, in order to acclimate themselves with the location and plan their itinerary, before they arrive.

Membership: The charge for a Standard Membership Fee would be $20.00 to visit one town or city for a year and this fee also provides easy access and the ability for ‘On-Line Tourists” to shop at and visit various Stores, Museums and Historical Sites, as well. Additionally, Schools, Colleges, and Universities could also become involved by offering special membership packages for their Alumni and others to attend their events, via Webcasts and other options. This can assist in raising revenues to develop new projects, scholarships and other learning opportunities for their students, (see Website Experience #2 for further explanation). Of course, Museums, Historical Sites and schools can develop Special Membership Packages and make them available at their front doors for On-Line Tourists to purchase.

Other options or combination's of various travel packages can be developed for those who desire to extend their Travel@Home.com opportunities. For Example: A Membership Package of, “Three Destinations for $45,” or a “World Traveler Rate” can be developed for individuals, who want the flexibility to visit any or all of the numerous locations that the Website offers during a single year.

Website Experience:

The following are brief explanations of what a Travel@Home.com Member experiences when entering the Website.

For Example: After a Member selects a community to visit – they will click on the link and enter the town or city, where the, “Welcome Sign,” is already displayed. Then, they can click to immediately go to Main Street or take a Scenic Tour through the area.

1. When on Main Street – from the perspective of walking down the sidewalks; if an On-Line Tourist “see’s” a store that interests them, (these stores and shops are the ones that literally exist), they can either:

a. Click to enter and browse – looking at the shelves and seeing the ambiance, character and basic environment. (Naturally, cash register placement, doors, and other things will be removed from the view of the ‘Home Travelers.’)

b. Or, click to enter an area where there are photos and a list of the items that our members have “seen” and are available for purchase and shipping directly to their homes.

aa. This provides the businesses within our Nations communities to expand their consumer base and provides for our citizens easy access to purchase those neat little items that we like to collect when we are literally traveling throughout our country.

bb. The Business will of course gain profits, while a percentage of the earnings or the taxes will go into the Community Chest to assist the town in building up their towns and cities.

cc. Additionally, a small percentage or fee could go to create a fund for business grants and pay for the employees running the Travel@Home.com Website itself. (This is to be determined later).

c. Of course, the various Business Owners would be responsible for the hiring of their own employees to provide the shipping and handling for their products to their customers and an individual to keep their shops items, sales and discounts up to date. For a minimal monthly fee, they hire a Travel@Home.com Webmaster to input the ongoing updated information. (To be discussed in further detail later: perhaps, just keeping the current Webmasters apprised of the monthly sales and new products offered, can provide for the organization of the Website itself).

The general upkeep and information regarding the changes within the various States communities, (new buildings, new businesses and other land use transitions), could be sent by the communities Chamber of Congress to the Webmasters, who are assigned to their State, so that everything remains up to date and consistent.

When an individual purchases a year-pass, becomes member and an On-Line Tourist of a community, (because of the technology that has been developed), they can be enabled to have an “overview’ or “side-view,” as they “walk” from one distention to the next. This will enable people to enjoy seeing and visiting the other areas and places within the community.

a. For Example:

After an On-Line Tourist has shopped in the downtown area, they can head over to a museum, art show or go to another event that is available or is literally happening in the community at the time and pay whatever the regular fee is to attend. (The communities themselves can provide some Sample Give Away visits or attendance to events within a community by providing additional membership offers; which can be determined later).

Along with the Museums, Historical Sites and other public areas of interest; Theater Groups, Colleges and schools could also offer admission to the events that they frequently present. (Of course, these complimentary memberships can be offered at discounted rates, based on the decisions of the people in charge of the activities).

Members can literally attend the activities as they are occurring by clicking on a live Web-Cast option, which would take them to a place to purchase a ticket that would give them access to the Web-Cast. This can enable On-Line Community Members to experience a, “Night on the Town,” participate in activities they enjoy and assist the various organizations within our Nations communities, (their own Hometowns), to raise revenues.

b. I am certain many Alumni of various Schools, Colleges and University’s throughout our Nation would love this option, as a way to visit their Hometown, (or the communities that they have lived in previously and feel connected to), and continue to remain active participants by attending various social events via Web-Cast, (such as, a School Play or Sporting Event). This also gives our Members the ability to continue to support the growth and well-being of the communities that they care about; when they have moved to another location.

c. Each Institution, Store, or Organization could establish and design their own ticket-fee systems for citizens to obtain Complimentary Memberships to participate in the events they present and that appear on the Travel@Home.com Website. For Example: Members could buy a pass that gives them admission to attend 10 Basketball Games during the College Season… Or, they could purchase an additional Passport to go to the Town’s Museums, whenever they like. (Obviously, these kinds of options can be expanded to include other organizations and activities).

d. Additionally, many communities maintain a schedule of annual activities, such as, The Fourth of July Parade, The Celebration of May Day, or even the yearly Lighting of the Christmas Tree in the Town Square. Participation in these events can uplift the spirits of Website Members and make them feel included. Perhaps, this open access can also elicit celebratory shopping during the activities or before to prepare themselves for these occasions.

3. As many of us have experienced, there are also small businesses within each of our communities that are in the initial stages of development. Artist’s and Individuals, who are gifted with various talents and are good at creating Crafts and artwork -- and inventors, who develop products and typically begin building their customer-base by word of mouth, also can be included.

Permanent Art Shows and Craft Fairs can be created to offer and display original works of art, and one of a kind, handcrafted products for the On-Line Tourists to see, purchase, and personally own. Collecting unique items and inventions used to be a trend within our society. People enjoyed owning one of kind products in their homes and often showed their guests their, “Conversation Pieces,” when they visited. These Specialized Shops and Emerging Businesses could be developed in a variety of ways and have especially appointed Webmasters, who singularly focus on these areas to keep the items up to date, as new works of art and crafts are created and included in the displays.

a. The Emerging Businesses could be set-up in a, “Specialized Shopping District” -- which could be “built” on an unused area of land in the existing town. As an indicator of the “Virtual City,” when the On-Line Tourist enters the area they can be greeted with a similar, “Welcome Sign,” like the one that they saw when they initially entered the community. And by adding placards, the On-Line Tourists is provided information about how the community was developed and is able to learn about the various artists and inventors, as well.

Actually, the History’s about how the existing stores in the town or cities were developed and a biography about the original and current owner can be made available at the “doors” of the shops themselves, (for both established and emerging businesses). Additionally, for those who are offering hand produced Artwork, Music, and Crafts; these biographies could also provide information about their business, their education, and personal history. (This idea can be expanded to include information about the histories and owners of the businesses in the community; and share details and fun facts about the town itself, (suburb or city), the museums, the schools and other organizations within the community).

b. This also assists the people that live and work within the communities themselves. As it encourages and provides an easy way for individuals and other business owners to discover, who in their community has products that they would like to sell. Established Business owners can order the items to sell in their own stores for commission or order a large quantity of what our Emerging Business owners have invented, produced or sell – such as C.D.’s, Quilts, or Jewelry… or even new products that haven’t been offered to our citizens before… ect. (For additional information, see Website Experience, #8.

c. The area, where the Specialized Shops and Emerging Businesses are made accessible for the On-Line Tourist’s, can be developed to match the existing architecture of the Town; such as the houses, the parks, the Museums, and other sites as well.

d. Also, another form of Business can be created, by utilizing video and editing techniques. Some folks have large collections of items that fit into a particular category – such as, 9,000 different styles of Pez Dispensers, or various depictions of a favorite animal, or a home that is filled with Christmas Decorations… etcetera. These individuals could be included in the Specialized Shop area to allow citizens to see, appreciate, and enjoy viewing their large collections – for a minimal fee).

e. For individuals who produce various media programs; such as the interview format or variety and talent shows for a regular Webcasts or other Television medium – such as Public Broadcasting Channels – can also open Specialized Shops to sell DVD’s of their programs. An area can be developed, where the On-Line Tourist is encouraged to click on a link, in order to view a short preview of the program that they are interested in purchasing. The expansion of is technology can include additional previews and promote the sales of movies, songs, books and other forms of media.

f. By developing another Member category, collectors can sign up for a membership that only allows them access to The Specialized Shop and Emerging Business areas in each community.

4. As a result, of the seamless visuals of the location, our visitors are empowered to “walk,” (visually), through neighborhoods – the visitor will see and experience the ambiance of our communities. And since the Historical Sites can have open door policy’s, this gives our citizens a wonderful way to have the “on-site” experience of seeing with their own eyes the places where our Founding Fathers and former leaders spent their time and developed the concepts that have been applied to our lives.

For Example:

The Hometown Tourist can get a close up view of the Place and Desk, where Thomas Jefferson wrote parts of our Declaration of Independence. We could see the interior of the Houses where various Presidents grew up or we could travel through the Rocky Mountains to see first hand the expeditions of Lewis and Clark. Additionally, those who are interested in our Environment, they can take a trip up to the North Pole and see the Glaciers, wildlife and communities themselves. This can assist us in expanding our understanding of America’s History and develop appreciation for our unique country as a whole.

Another aspect that is a plus for some Members is having an area where they can keep a Journal of their visits and log their activities, experiences, and thoughts as they visit their selected communities. Perhaps, this area could include sections that allow the member to show what they purchased, where they went, and what they did; and provide a way to keep track of the events they attended and display the other memorabilia that they collected as they traveled to different communities offered by the Website.

6. In addition, this Website can provide individuals, who are planning to go on vacation, to visit the community -- “On-Line” -- before they arrive to acclimate to the location and assist them with planning their itinerary.

7. Of course, this idea could be expanded by working with the Leaders of Foreign Nations to include their favored cities as well. And naturally, we could invite citizens in other Nations to become On-Line Tourists and visit America’s larger cities and major attractions too.

8. Additionally, individuals could be offered a discounted membership package to become On-Line Tourists in the communities where they currently live. This could open up access and another avenue for individuals to provide further support for their own hometown community events or cities businesses, Non-Profit Organizations and other social activities – such as support of our theaters, museums, and historic land-sites. This could also open doors for the leaders of community humanitarian causes to create various events or provide entertaining and informative videos to educate the general public about what they are doing and to generate further resources and expand their outreach programs.

I voted for Obama, I believed in the open government and the change we can believe in. I now feel I was taken for a ride, lied to and my vote should not count. Obama has done a complete turn around of what I thought he stood for. I voted for a radical racist as far as I am concerned.

I hear all of the left calling people racists and this just is not right. I am a white lady and I feel like the new radical left does not even like me. The right has every right to voice their opinions and we should allow them to. If they are so very wrong then show them where they are wrong, quit the racist crap. I did hear the rants of wright and jones and I must agree with the right on those issues. An ex-president jimmy carter has no right at all to call anybody a racist, it just is wrong. I also believe the left has gotten way too radical and wants too much change of America. The damn blacks are complaining all over again like fifty years ago. Will they ever stop with the race card thing? I know jesse jackson and al sharpton makes a good living on race baiting but not from the left come on people.

I read all about the czars and they are crazy as hell with radical views and remarks. van jones is a complete crazy man that has no reason being in this country with his hate of America and for whites. I see no God in Rev Wright what so ever and never knew Obama was in his church 20 years. This man is evil at best and nobody should go to his church. Obama is spending his way into debt we can never pay back and that worries me a lot. The more I hear about Acorn the more corrupt I think they are and Obama is. I did not know mrs Obama said this was a mean country or that she was never proud. Oh my I do not believe I did the right thing by voting for him. Become a Citizen Lobbyist!

Wow, Good News sure travels fast! Just a few days ago, while with a small group – the subject of the Lobbyist influence in Washington, D.C. was mentioned. Of course, it started as a discussion about what most of us are already aware of and many of us have talked about with our own family, friends, and neighbors.

“How can we, as citizens, continue to be heard without having our own Lobbyists to represent us?” As we well know, some people are hired to talk with our leaders and tell them what their desires are and what they need to continue growing and reaching beyond expectations. “Wouldn’t it be great if America’s Citizens had people like that?!” – was the sentiment expressed. Yet, we do!

We have us! Okay, we might not have the fancy job-title that hired Lobbyist’s do -- however, we do have desires and needs, access to a telephone and the heart to speak out passionately on behalf of restoring the health of our families, communities, and nation. And, we can easily find out the phone numbers of our Representatives and Congress Members; both at the Capitol and at their office’s in our hometowns, (or the nearest city).

Then, during the creation of our 21st Century Legislation – while they are focusing on each area and developing new rules and laws to benefit our lives – we can give them a call to tell them our position. Additionally, when a subject is being addressed in an area that we know a lot about, because we work in the field or are recipients of the services and directly affected; we already have developed clear ideas about what is needed to improve our health, rekindle our growth, and surpass all expectations.

For those of us who have created solutions to revive and uplift our public purpose programs and social infrastructure -- we can ask for their fax numbers, and then send in our Plans or share our hard-earned insights! (Or, for the computer literate, go to their Websites and post your thoughts; then send emails to all of your friends)!

And considering that there are only a few hundred hired Lobbyists and millions upon millions of us, Citizen Lobbyists, types; by joining our efforts and making weekly calls, (which takes approximately five to twenty minutes, depending on how many of our leaders you contact); we can make certain that our views are expressed, represented and known. Yes, We Can Do This! We Can Be Heard!

At my school we have a few people who refuse to support you. I always confuse them by asking them why that don't supprt and I make them give me a reason why they don't support and then I give them a bunch of facts and stuff about the war or the recession and then they might just ignore me or look confused, or just say whatever. I have changed the mind of many and my goal isn't a number like 5 per week, it is EVERYONE.

Although the South has never been favored by most of my people {African Americans}, I have always been proud of the fact that I am from South Carolina. When asked "Where are you from?", I always respond, "South Carolina, born and raised". I have fondly referred to myself as a Southern Black Belle. Last evening I have never been more ashamed of being a South Carolinian in my life.

How disgraceful, rude, & obnoxious could you possibly be to heckle the President of the United States of America, especially when good people have voted and placed you in a position where they feel you are capable of representing their state before Congress. You are a disgrace not only to the state of South Carolina, but you are a disgrace to America. Would you have done the same to ANY of our previous Presidents? I doubt it. The fact is you can not stand to see a BLACK MAN representing America.

However; true to form our President, Barack Obama, carried himself with dignity and grace both of which you know nothing about. While watching him I could not help but think of the verse, "let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven" {Matthew 5:16}. What a true testament of character. My minister constantly reminds us that "The truth shall set you free or find you out", well Mr. Wilson you have just been found out!

Recently South Carolina has been on every comedians lips, in every newspaper, magazine and the talk of every talk show host. There's our illustrious Governor, Mark Sanford, who disgraced his wife, family and the entire state of South Carolina with his blatant affair and elusive behavior. Then there's Senator Jim Demint, with his biased and callous remarks regarding our President and now this. What I find truly amazing in all this is that none of these men are African American; however THEY have the audacity to judge a man who is out there fighting tooth and nail every day to provide a better way of life for ALL Americans. A man who is ten times the man they will ever be.

To ALL these men and the many others like them: "An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity."

To ALL Americans who continue to vote for these men: "A nation or civilization that continues to produce soft-minded men purchases its own spiritual death on the installment plan."

Hey, just because Im young does not mean I do not understand and unfortunately see the world of today in all its corrupted and selfish shame.

Many people are and have been ignorant and greedy, and our world, our planet is suffering for it. I have seen a lot of cowardly and unfair shit in my 17 years already. Its all about the money, isnt it? Well guess what? Theres more to life than money. I hear that many people of America are complaining against the New Health Insurance Proposal and im a little shocked as to why? I may be British, but Im not stupid and I take pride in NOT being ignorant.

Im aware of the political and global 'goings-on' in the world; and I think more people should be. There are many people who do not know who their own President/Priminister is, which is quite shocking, mostly because they CHOOSE not to care. This health insurance issue IS IMPORTANT.

Just because other less fortunate people cannot afford insurance DOES NOT mean they should suffer. How can anyone, regardless or their beliefs or backgrounds stand up and admit that they believe this. My mother is quite ill at the moment and will be having an operation in October. If we had no health insurance, we would not be able to afford it, and her illness may turn terminal.

They are far worse cases out there but i have offered you a personal example. People need to realise that money and looks or whatever only get you so far, but whats in lack of supply at the moment is common sense, honesty, compassion and generosity.

All I can say to those that are lacking is this:

Sort your life out you disgraceful excuse for a human being. >:( !!!!!

We should have a rally titled "Take My America Back" ~Basically, instead of protesting, we have workshops...a workshop on how to manage your finances with credit cards--taught for free, by pros; workshop for easy how-to's to create less of a foot print on earth--all under 100 dollars (easy 'go green' meets HGTV); workshop on hospital terminology--so we can understand what doctors are actually telling us, now, and make better future decisions, now!; workshop on CPR--....enough said really; workshop on cooking for a family of 4--under 50 bucks a day; workshop titled 'xxnumber of ways to start losing weight--tomorrow' (take the steps, stretch more, really tho. Why do we only stretch when we have or anticipate the idea of future pain due to our own out-of-shapeness?;is that a real word?; workshop on being a new driver--partially taught by teens from that very same community; workshop titled 'not for me'-- workshop for young adults planning for their futures (only own what you can afford!); workshop on indentifying financial leakage--we dont 'need'...eeeeverything!; workshop on real third world countries--a humbling lesson learned when you see how good we really have it; and finally (cuz I really could go on forever)a workshop titled 'explain, please?!'--help people understand how to effectively utilize their cell phones (explain things like social networking/SMS/MMS/BBM/AIM/Apps/WAPs/GPS/VVM...wow!)

The Catch:

1)...I dont want to organize it by myself LOL 1.5) its FREE for all! 2) I would love to have each 'rally' have at least one local person in each and every workshop = dedicated AMERICANS giving up their free time to help other PEOPLE...and yes, I meant PEOPLE, all of them. 3)Ideally: head to toe voluntary...no one gets paid, its all voluntary!; not the sponsors, not the organizers, not the appearences, not the musical acts, not even the clean-up crew...I mean really...we have a ton of unemployed people sitting around with countless degrees and experience and nothing else to do. Lets step up! 4) Lastly, if this ever came to pass, I would love to present a check to the President of the United States, that day, on the National Debt (cummulation of tax free donations created from these events, by people who believe in helping others for the sake of helping others) This is our country...we already own it, so lets own up to it! I owe it to YOU! This is me taking ownership of my America (insert picture of Uncle Sam--ironic) America, you down?!

Lo paramos y nos identificamos para solicitarle una entrevista, a la cual accede con gusto.

“Ahora no puede ser, pero veámonos mañana después de la ceremonia de posesión de Correa”, nos dice el autor de Las venas abiertas de América Latina y de Espejos.

Tiempo abierto de esperanza

- ¿Después de 200 años de la emancipación de América Latina, se puede hablar de una reconfiguración del sujeto político en esta región, habida cuenta los avances políticos que se traducen en gobiernos progresistas y de izquierda en varios países latinoamericanos?

- Sí, hay un tiempo abierto de esperanza, una suerte de renacimiento que es digno de celebración en países que no han terminado de ser independientes, apenas si han empezado un poquito. La independencia es una tarea pendiente para casi toda América Latina.

- ¿Con toda la irrupción social que se viene dando a lo largo del hemisferio se puede señalar que hay una acentuación de la identidad cultural de América Latina?

- Sí, yo creo que sí y eso pasa por cierto por las reformas constitucionales. A mí me ofendió la inteligencia, aparte de otras cosas que sentí, el horror de este golpe de Estado en Honduras que invocó como causa el pecado cometido por un Presidente que quiso consultar al pueblo sobre la posibilidad de reformar la Constitución, porque lo que quería Zelaya era consultar sobre la consulta, ni siquiera una era reforma directa. Suponiendo que fuera una reforma a la Constitución bienvenida sea, porque las constituciones no son eternas y para que los países puedan realizarse plenamente tienen que reformarlas. Yo me pregunto: ¿qué sería de los Estados Unidos si sus habitantes siguieran obedeciendo a su primera Constitución? La primera Constitución de Estados Unidos establecía que un negro equivalía a las tres quintas partes de una persona. Obama no podría ser Presidente porque ningún país puede tener de mandatario a las tres quintas partes de una persona.

- Usted reivindica la figura del presidente Barack Obama por su condición racial, ¿pero el hecho de mantener o ampliar la presencia norteamericana mediante bases militares en América Latina, como está ocurriendo ahora en Colombia con la instalación de siete plataformas de control y espionaje, no desdice de las verdaderas intenciones de este mandatario del partido demócrata, y simplemente sigue al pie de la letra los planes expansionistas y de amenaza de una potencia hegemónica como Estados Unidos?

- Lo que pasa es que Obama hasta ahora no ha definido muy bien que es lo que quiere hacer ni en relación con América Latina, las relaciones nuestras, tradicionalmente dudosas, ni en otros temas tampoco. En algunos espacios hay una voluntad de cambio expresa por ejemplo en lo que tiene que ver con el sistema de salud que es escandaloso en Estados Unidos, te rompes una pierna y pagás hasta el fin de tus días la deuda por ese accidente. Pero en otros espacios no, él continúa hablando de ‘nuestro liderazgo’, ‘nuestro estilo de vida’ en un lenguaje demasiado parecido al de los anteriores.

A mí me parece muy positivo que un país tan racista como ese y con episodios de un racismo colosal, descomunal, escandaloso, ocurridos hace quince minutos en términos históricos tenga un presidente seminegro. En 1942, o sea medio siglo, nada, el Pentágono prohibió las transfusiones de sangre negra y ahí el director de la Cruz Roja renunció o fue renunciado porque se negó aceptar la orden diciendo que toda sangre era roja y que era un disparate hablar de sangre negra, y él era negro, era un gran científico, el que hizo posible la aplicación del plasma a escala universal, Charles Drew. Entonces un país que hiciera un disparate como prohibir la sangre negra tenga a Obama de presidente es un gran avance. Pero por otro lado, hasta ahora yo no veo un cambio sustancial, ahí está por ejemplo el modo como su gobierno enfrentó la crisis financiera, pobrecito yo no quisiera estar en sus zapatos, pero la verdad es que terminaron recompensando a los especuladores, los piratas de Wall Strett que son muchísimo más peligrosos que los de Somalia porque éstos asaltan nada más que los barquitos en la costa, en cambio los de la Bolsa de Nueva York asaltan al mundo. Ellos fueron finalmente recompensados; yo quería iniciar una campaña al principio conmovido por la crisis de los banqueros con el lema: “adopte un banquero”, pero la abandoné porque vi que el Estado se hizo cargo de la tarea. (Risas).

Y lo mismo con América Latina, como que no tiene muy claro qué hacer. Han estado más de un siglo los Estados Unidos consagrados a la fabricación de dictaduras militares en América Latina, entonces a la hora de defender una democracia como en el caso de Honduras, ante un clarísimo golpe de Estado, vacilan, tienen respuesta ambiguas, no saben qué hacer, porque no tienen práctica, les falta experiencia, llevan más de un siglo trabajando en el sentido contrario, entonces comprendo que la tarea no es fácil. En el caso de las bases militares en Colombia no solo ofende la dignidad colectiva de América Latina sino también la inteligencia de cualquiera, porque que se diga que su función va ser combatir las drogas, ¡por favor, hasta cuando! Casi toda la heroína que se consume en el mundo proviene de Afganistán, casi toda, datos oficiales de Naciones Unidas que cualquiera puede ver en Internet. Y Afganistán es un país ocupado por Estados Unidos y como se sabe los países ocupantes tiene la responsabilidad de lo que ocurre en los países ocupados, por lo tanto, tienen algo que ver con este narcotráfico en escala universal y son dignos herederos de la reina Victoria que era narcotraficante.

No se puede ser tan hipócrita

- La reina británica que introdujo por todos los medios en el siglo XIX el opio a China a través de comerciantes de Inglaterra y Estados Unidos…

- Sí, la celebérrima reina Victoria de Inglaterra impuso el opio en China a lo largo de dos guerras de treinta años, matando una cantidad inmensa de chinos, porque el imperio chino se negaba a aceptar esa sustancia dentro de sus fronteras que estaba prohibida. Y el opio es el papá de la heroína y de la morfina, justamente. Entonces a los chinos les costó todo, porque China era una gran potencia que podía haber competido con Inglaterra en los comienzos de la revolución industrial, era el taller del mundo, y la guerra del opio los arrasó, los convirtió en una piltrafa, de ahí entraron los japoneses como perico por su casa, en quince minutos.

Victoria era una reina narcotraficante y los Estados Unidos que tanto usan la droga como coartada para justificar sus invasiones militares, porque de eso se trata, son dignos herederos de esa fea tradición. A mí me parece que es hora que nos despertemos un poquito, que no se puede ser tan hipócrita. Si van a ser hipócritas que lo sean con más cuidado. En América Latina tenemos buenos profesores de hipocresía, si quieren podemos en un convenio de ayuda tecnológica mutua prestarles algunos hipócritas propios.

- Hace nueve años exactamente, usted le dijo en una entrevista en Bogotá concedida a este reportero la siguiente frase: “Dios guarde a Colombia del Plan Colombia”. ¿Cuál es ahora su reflexión respecto de este país andino que enfrenta un gobierno autoritario entregado a los intereses de los Estados Unidos, con una alarmante situación de violación de derechos humanos y con un conflicto interno que lo sigue desangrando?

- Además con problemas gravísimos que se han ido agudizando con el paso del tiempo. Yo no sé, te digo, no soy quien para darle consejos a Colombia ni a los colombianos, además siempre estuve contra esa mala costumbre de algunos que se sienten en condiciones de decir qué es lo que cada país tiene que hacer. Yo nunca cometí ese imperdonable pecado y no lo voy a cometer ahora con Colombia, solo puede decir que ojalá los colombianos encuentren su camino, ojalá lo encuentren, nadie se lo pueden imponer desde afuera, ni por la izquierda, ni por la derecha, ni por el centro, ni por nada, serán los colombianos quienes lo encontrarán. Y yo lo que puedo es decir que doy testimonio. Si hay un tribunal mundial que alguna vez va a juzgar a Colombia por lo que de Colombia se dice: país violento, narcotraficante, condenado a violencia perpetua, yo voy a dar testimonio de que no, de que ese es un país cariñoso, alegre y que merece mejor destino.

Reivindicando memoria de Raúl Sendic

- Hace muchos años, siquiera unas cuatro décadas, había un personaje en Montevideo que se reunía con un joven dibujante llamado Eduardo Hughes Galeano con el propósito de darle ideas para la elaboración de sus caricaturas, llamado Raúl Sendic, el inspirador del Frente Amplio del Uruguay…

- Y jefe guerrillero de los Tupamaros, aunque en aquella época todavía no lo era. Es verdad, cuando yo era un niño, casi de catorce años, y empecé a dibujar caricaturas, él se sentaba a mirar y me daba ideas, era un hombre bastante mayor que yo, con cierta experiencia, y todavía no era lo que después fue: el fundador, organizador y jefe de los Tupamaros. Recuerdo que le dijo a don Emilio Frugoni que por entonces era el jefe del Partido Socialista y director del semanario donde yo publicaba unas caricaturas tempranas, señalándome: “Este va a ser o presidente o gran delincuente”. Fue una buena profecía y terminé siendo gran delincuente… (Risas).

- ¿El hecho de que hoy el Frente Amplio esté gobernando el Uruguay y que un ex guerrillero como Pepe Mujica tenga posibilidades de ganar las elecciones presidenciales constituye una reivindicación a la memoria de Sendic?

- Sí, y de todos los que participaron en una lucha muy larga para romper el monopolio de dos, el bipolio ejercido por el Partido Colorado y el Partido Nacional durante casi toda la vida independiente del país. El Frente Amplio irrumpe hace muy poquito en el escenario político nacional y me parece muy positivo que esté gobernando ahora, aparte de que yo no coincido con todo lo que se hace y además creo que no se hace todo lo que se debería hacer. Pero eso no tiene nada que ver porque al fin y al cabo la victoria del Frente Amplio fue también una victoria de la diversidad política que yo creo que es la base de la democracia. En el Frente coexisten muchos partidos y movimientos diferentes, unidos por supuesto en una causa común pero con sus diversidades y diferencias, y yo las reivindico, para mí eso es fundamental.

- ¿Qué representa para usted como uruguayo el hecho de que un dirigente emblemático de la izquierda como Pepe Mujica, ex guerrillero tupamaro, tenga amplias posibilidades de llegar a la Presidencia de la República de su país?

- Con algún chance, no va a ser es fácil, vamos a ver qué pasa, pero creo que es un proceso de recuperación, la gente se reconoce justamente en el Pepe Mujica porque es radicalmente diferente de los políticos nuestros tradicionales, en su lenguaje, hasta en su aspecto y todo, por más que él ha tratado de vestirse de fino caballero no le sale bien, y expresa muy bien una necesidad y una voluntad popular de cambio. Creo que sería bueno que él llegara a la Presidencia, vamos a ver si ocurre o no, de todos modos el drama del Uruguay como el del Ecuador, por cierto, país en el que estamos conversando este momento, es la hemorragia de su población joven. O sea, la nuestra es una patria peregrina; en su discurso de posesión el presidente Rafael Correa habló de los exiliados de la pobreza y la verdad es que hay una enorme cantidad de uruguayos mucho más de lo que se dice, porque no son oficiales las cifras, pero no menos de 700 mil, 800 mil uruguayos en una población pequeñísima porque nosotros en el Uruguay somos 3 millones y medio, esa es una cantidad inmensa de gente afuera, todos o casi todos jóvenes, entonces han quedado los viejos o la gente que ya ha cumplido esa etapa de la vida en la que uno quiere que todo cambie para resignarse a que no cambie nada o que cambie muy poquito.

Baldositas de colores para armar mosaicos

- ¿Tras sus reputados libros Las venas abiertas de América Latina publicado en 1970, y Espejos, editado en 2008, que relatan historias de la infamia, el primero sobre nuestro continente y el otro de buena parte del mundo, hay espacio para seguir creyendo en la utopía?

- Espejos lo que hace es recuperar la historia universal en todas sus dimensiones, en sus horrores pero también en sus fiestas, es muy diferente a Las venas abiertas de América Latina, que fue el comienzo de un camino. Las venas abiertas es un ensayo casi de economía política, escrito en un lenguaje no muy tradicional en el género, por eso perdió el concurso de Casa de las Américas, porque el jurado no lo considero serio.

Era una época en que la izquierda solo creía que lo serio era lo aburrido, y como el libro no era aburrido, no era serio, pero es un libro muy concentrado en la historia política económica y en las barbaridades que esa historia implicó para nosotros, como nos deformó y nos estranguló.

En cambio, Espejos, intenta asomarse al mundo entero recogiendo todo, las noches y los días, las luces y las sombras, son todas historias muy cortitas, y hay una diferencia también de estilo, Las venas abiertas tiene una estructura tradicional, y a partir de ahí yo intenté encontrar un lenguaje mío, propio, que es el del relato corto, baldositas de colores para armar los grandes mosaicos, un estilo como el de los muralistas, y cada relato es una pequeña baldosita que incorpora un color, y uno de los últimos relatos de Espejos evoca un recuerdo de infancia mío que es verdadero y es que cuando yo era chiquito creía que todo lo que se perdía en la tierra iba a parar en la luna, estaba convencido de eso y me sorprendió cuando llegaron los astronautas a la luna porque no encontraron ni promesas traicionadas, ni ilusiones perdidas, ni esperanzas rotas, y entonces yo me pregunté: ¿si no están en la luna, dónde están? ¿No será que están aquí en la tierra, esperándonos?

How The Nation Magazine Saved the American Empire What Can Obama Do in Latin America?

What if Barack Obama had picked the Nation's Katrina vanden Heuvel or Democracy Now! anchor Amy Goodman to advise him at the upcoming Summit of the Americas in Trinidad and Tobago this week? Unlikely, to say the least, but 75 years ago President Franklin Delano Roosevelt did something just like that, tapping a former Nation editor and fierce critic of U.S. militarism to advise his administration on Latin American policy. As a result -- consider this your curious, yet little known, fact of the day -- anti-imperialism saved the American empire.

FDR took office in 1933 looking not just to stabilize the U.S. economy, but to calm a world inflamed: Japan had invaded Manchuria the year before; the Nazis had seized power in Germany; European imperialists were tightening their holds over their colonies; and the Soviet Union had declared its militant "third period" strategy, imagining that global capitalism, plunged into the Great Depression, was in its last throes.

When, soon after his March inauguration, Roosevelt put forward a call to the "nations of the world" to "enter into a solemn and definitive pact of non-aggression," the colonialists, militarists, and fascists who ruled Europe and Asia balked. Because the new president's global reach came nowhere near his global ambitions, the London Economic Conference -- convened that July by the equivalent of today's G-20 -- broke up rancorously over how to respond to that moment's global meltdown.

Luckily for Roosevelt, the Seventh Pan-American Conference was scheduled to take place that December in Montevideo, Uruguay. Admittedly the very idea of pan-Americanism -- that the American republics shared common ideals and political interests -- was then moribund. Every few years, in an international forum, Latin American delegates simply submitted to Washington's directives while silently seething about the latest U.S. military intervention -- in Panama, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Venezuela, Honduras, the Dominican Republic, or Haiti. (Take your pick.)

Momentum was then building among Latin American nations for a revision of international law, which effectively granted great powers the right to intervene in the affairs of smaller republics. Venezuelan diplomats, for instance, were insisting that the U.S. affirm the principle of absolute sovereignty. Argentines put forth their own "non-aggression" treaty codifying non-intervention as the law of the hemisphere. Caribbean and Central American politicians insisted that detachments of U.S. Marines, then bogged down in counterinsurgencies in Nicaragua, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic, get out.

FDR dispatched his Secretary of State, Cordell Hull, to the summit, but instructed him not to offer anything more than a promise to build a few new roads. The demand that the U.S. give up the right of intervention was "unacceptable."

Yet Roosevelt, who had a way of mixing and matching unlikely advisors, also asked Ernest Gruening (recommended by Harvard law professor and soon-to-be Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter) to accompany Hull. In 1964, as a senator from Alaska, Gruening would become famous for casting one of only two votes against the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, which President Lyndon Johnson would use to escalate the Vietnam War, but in the 1930s, he was already a committed anti-imperialist.

Twenty-One Different Kinds of Hate

Not quite, of course. Washington would return to a policy of interventionism in the Cold War era. Nonetheless, the importance of this diplomatic sea-change cannot be overstated.

Montevideo was Roosevelt's first significant foreign policy success, marking a turn in the country's fortunes as an ascendant superpower. He then ordered the Marines to withdraw from Haiti, while giving the country back its national bank; he abrogated the Cuban constitution's hated Platt Amendment, which had turned the island into a U.S. vassal-state; and he began to tolerate a degree of economic nationalism in Latin America, including Mexico's expropriation of the holdings of Standard Oil.

FDR's enormous popularity in Latin America fired his aspirations to world leadership. Visiting Buenos Aires in 1936, he was greeted by more than a million ecstatic well-wishers who gave him a "wild ovation" and "pelted him with flowers." Even Buenos Aires's usually skeptical press heralded him as a "shepherd of democracy," while hospitals expected an "enormous crop of 'Roosevelts' among baby boys," despite a ban on foreign names for infants.

Improved relations with Latin America also helped the U.S. recover from the Great Depression. With Asia off limits and Europe headed for war, Washington looked south both for markets for manufactured goods and for raw materials, negotiating trade treaties with 15 Latin American countries between 1934 and 1942.

More importantly, Latin America became the laboratory for what eventually became known as liberal multilateralism -- the diplomatic framework that, after World War II, would allow the United States to accrue unprecedented power. With the League of Nations practically defunct, diplomats began to discuss the possibility of a new "League of the Americas," which would eventually evolve into both the Organization of American States and the United Nations. (Each would enshrine in its charter the principle of absolute non-intervention.) Roosevelt himself would hold up the "illustration of the republics of this continent" as a model for global postwar reconstruction.

Cordell Hull got the Nobel Peace Prize for helping to found the U.N. and FDR took credit for overcoming "many times 21 different kinds of hate" to "sell the idea of peace and security among the American republics." But the thanks really should go to anti-imperialists like Gruening and guerrilla fighters like Nicaragua's Augusto Sandino who rendered militarism an unsustainable foreign policy.

Seventy-Five Years Later...

The parallels with today are unmistakable: a global economy in tatters; a new president with a mandate for reform, but blocked abroad by rising rivals and hamstrung by the rapid recession of U.S. power and prestige thanks to years of arrogant, unilateral militarism. And coming on the heels of a London summit of economic powers, a Latin American conference: the Fifth Summit of the Americas to be attended by 34 heads of state representing every American country except Cuba.

The last time this summit convened at the Argentinean beach resort town of Mar del Plata in 2005, Argentines greeted George W. Bush not as a shepherd of democracy but as an evangelizer for war, militarism, and savage capitalism. Thousands turned up from all over the continent to burn the president in effigy. Venezuela's Hugo Chávez and Bolivia's Evo Morales convened a festive parallel "People's Summit," while Argentine soccer legend Maradona called Bush "human rubbish" and "a bit of an assassin." To paraphrase Michael Moore's Academy Award homage to the Dixie Chicks, when Maradona is against you, your time in Latin America is up.

With an aircraft carrier stationed just offshore and fighter jets buzzing overhead, Bush still was nervous and seemed distinctly out of his league. Coming just a few months after Hurricane Katrina ravaged New Orleans, with Iraq careening out of control, Bush's disastrous performance in Argentina, combined with an impressive display of Latin American unity, hastened the demise of the pretension of the neoconservatives to global supremacy. "The United States continues to see things one way," said one Latin American diplomat at the Summit, "but most of the rest of the hemisphere has moved on and is heading in another direction."

And so it had, with a left turn that started with Chávez's 1998 election as Venezuela's president and still continues apace. Last year, after all, Paraguay elected a liberation theologian as president; and last month, the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front -- the guerrilla group turned political party Ronald Reagan spent six billion dollars and 70,000 Salvadorean lives trying to defeat in the 1980s -- finally came to power in El Salvador.

This week many will be watching to see if Barack Obama, in what will be his first real engagement with Latin America, is ready to reverse course at this Summit as Roosevelt did more than three-quarters of a century ago. To the United States, Latin America has not just been a source of raw materials and markets, but a "workshop," a place where rising foreign-policy coalitions try out new ways to project U.S. power following periods of acute crisis. FDR did it, as did Reagan and the New Right when, in the 1980s, they used Central America to experiment with junking multilateralism, while remilitarizing and remoralizing foreign policy.

Today, President Obama is enormously popular in Latin America. A number of local politicians in the region even legally adopted his name to give themselves an edge on ballots, and undoubtedly quite a few baby boys will be called Barack. Brazil's president, known simply as Lula, says he is praying for Obama -- and even Maradona admits he likes him "a lot."

But popularity only goes so far. For the first time in many decades, an American president might find that the days when the U.S. could use Latin America as an imperial rehearsal space are drawing to a close.

The Colombian Option

So what will Obama offer in Trinidad and Tobago? He will, like Hull in 1933, be intent on "radiating goodwill," but he will not necessarily "be friendly with everyone." He's already poisoned the water by insisting that Hugo Chávez is an "obstacle" to progress. Love Chávez or hate him, he is recognized as a legitimate leader by all Latin American countries and is a close ally to many. For eight years, a Bush administration policy of driving a wedge between the rest of the region and the Venezuelan proved a dismal failure, except when it came to increasing the outflow of Washington's hemorrhaging power in the hemisphere.

On many fronts, however, the president is likely to discover that his real obstacles to progress south of the border lie uncomfortably close to home.

In preparation for the summit, the Obama administration has made some overtures to Cuba, responding to demands by nearly every Latin American country that Washington end its cold war against Havana. The need to keep Democratic senators from Florida and New Jersey (states with large Cuban-American populations) in the fold means that the general travel ban and trade embargo will, however, stay in place, at least for now. (In 1933, Hull tried to prevent the Cuban envoy from speaking, fearing that he would give a fiery anti-American speech; Gruening appealed to the principle of free speech to reverse the ban.)

Obama will probably reiterate recent official statements by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, among others, that the United States bears real responsibility for Mexico's drug-war violence and perhaps bemoan the way an "inability to prevent weapons from being illegally smuggled across the border" fuels drug-related killings. Like every other administration, though, Obama's will have to answer to the National Rifle Association (NRA), which at this point carries out its own foreign policy.

In 2005, for example, when Brazil held a referendum to implement a stringent gun-control law, the NRA spent considerable money lobbying to successfully defeat it. So expect the NRA to fight any attempt to stem the flow of guns south of the border. In fact, Wyoming senator John Barrasso hopes to use the fear of Mexican drug violence to force a greater distribution of assault weapons. As he put the matter, "Why would you disarm someone when they potentially could get caught in the crossfire?... The United States will not surrender our second-amendment rights for Mexico's border problem."

And so it goes: On nearly every issue that could either actually help relieve the suffering of Latin Americans or allow the U.S. to win back strategic allies, domestic politics will hinder Obama's range of action, even if not his immediate popularity.

Just recently, a study group made up of some of Latin America's leading intellectuals and policy-makers, including former presidents of Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico, declared the U.S. war on drugs a failure and recommended the legalization of marijuana. Obama is obviously sympathetic to this position, having instructed his Justice Department to back off "medical marijuana" prosecutions. But will he be able to de-escalate the war on drugs in Latin America? Not likely.

As a candidate, the president did say he wasn't opposed to all wars, just stupid ones -- and this one is as stupid as they come. It hasn't lessened narcotics exports to the U.S., but has spread violence through Central America into Mexico, while entrenching paramilitary power in Colombia. Plan Colombia, the centerpiece of that war, is a legacy of Bill Clinton's foreign policy, and much of the six billion dollars so far spent to fight it has essentially been direct-deposited in the coffers of corporate sponsors of the Democratic Party like Connecticut's United Technologies and other northeastern defense contractors.

Rather than dismantling Plan Colombia, plans are evidently afoot to have it go viral beyond the Americas. Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, recently commented that "many of us from all over the world can learn from what has happened with respect to the very successful developments of Plan Colombia," and suggested that it be franchised "specifically to Afghanistan." Washington Post White House correspondent Scott Wilson agrees, urging Obama to use Colombia as a "classroom for learning how to beat the Taliban." Buried deep in Wilson's recommendation was a revelation: U.S. officials, he wrote, "privately" told him that death-squad terror was a necessary first step in Plan Colombia, serving as a "placeholder" until the U.S. could train a "professional" army. The Bush administration kept "the money flowing to Colombia's army despite evidence of its complicity in paramilitary massacres."

The Path to Latin America Runs Through Brasilia...

Ultimately, imperial Washington's only real road may run through the Brazilian capital, Brasilia. After all, Obama approaches the region not as a leader of a confident superpower, but of an autumnal hegemon. As such, his best option may lie in forming a partnership with Brazil -- Latin America's largest, most diversified economy, with enormous, newly discovered offshore oil reserves and a fulsome set of political aspirations -- to administer the hemisphere. The White House clearly recognizes this to be the case, which was why an administration official called Lula's recent one-on-one meeting in Washington with Obama a recognition of Brazil's "global ascendancy."

Just before the G-20 meeting convened in London, Lula blamed the global financial collapse on the "irrational behavior of people that are white" and "blue-eyed." Standing next to the blanching British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, he continued: "I do not know any black or indigenous bankers so I can only say [it is wrong] that this part of mankind, which is victimized more than any other, should pay for the crisis."

If these words came out of Chávez's mouth, they would have been taken as but the latest indication of his irrational anti-Americanism, but the Obama administration needs Lula. In London, Obama could barely contain himself: "That's my man right here," he said, grabbing Lula's hand as Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner looked on. "Love this guy. He's the most popular politician on earth. It's because of his good looks." That certainly represented an improvement over George Bush, who asked Lula's Brazilian predecessor, "Do you have blacks, too?"

Yet Brazil's cooperation will come at a price, which Obama will have trouble meeting. This country's baroque and bloated farm subsidy and tariff program -- which House and Senate members recently refused to let Obama cut -- will prevent the president from bowing gracefully to Lula's central demand: that the U.S. live up to its rhetoric about free trade and open its economy to Brazil's competitive agro-industry.

Returning to the Scene of the Crime

Ultimately, however, Obama's vision will be limited by the smallness of the imaginations of the counselors he has surrounded himself with. There are neither Gruenings, nor even Hulls in that crowd. He has kept on George W. Bush's Assistant Secretary of State for Latin America Thomas Shannon and has picked Jeffrey Davidow to be his special advisor at the summit.

A career diplomat, Davidow's foreign service has been largely unremarkable, though his first posting was to Guatemala in the early 1970s when U.S.-backed death squads were running wild, and was followed by an assignment as a junior political officer in Chile, where he observed the 1973 U.S.-backed military coup that overthrew elected President Salvador Allende. Committed to the Clinton-era mantra of economic liberalization, these diplomats will never recommend the kind of game-changing ideas Gruening did.

Given that the global financial crisis will dominate this summit, Obama's appearance will be seen by some as a return to the scene of the crime. After all, it was in Chile that the now-discredited model of deregulated financial capitalism was first imposed. This occurred well before Presidents Reagan and Clinton adopted it in the U.S.

As it then spread through most of the rest of Latin America, the results were absolutely disastrous. For two decades, economies stagnated, poverty deepened, and inequality increased. To make matters worse, just as a new generation of leftists, taking measures to lessen poverty and reduce inequality, was recovering from that Washington-induced catastrophe, a reckless housing bubble burst in the U.S., bringing down the global economy.

Madrid, 17 Ago. ABN.- El diario español Público criticó este lunes en duros términos la política aplicada hacia América Latina por el gobierno estadounidense de Barack Obama, en su medio año de administración.

Al hacer un balance de la gestión de Obama en política exterior, el matutino madrileño concluye que el primer mandatario estadounidense mantiene las mismas relaciones con Latinoamérica desarrolladas por su antecesor, George W. Bush.

Recuerda que cuatro meses después de la V Cumbre de las Américas de Trinidad y Tobago, el gobernante no modificó ni un ápice la estrategia hacia la región, como prometió en aquella ocasión.

Obama aseguró entonces que los hechos demostrarían la nueva era de relaciones entre su país y América Latina, una época en la que la potencia norteña no trataría de dictar los términos, como había ocurrido en anteriores administraciones, subraya Público, reseñado por la agencia de noticias Prensa Latina.

En su extenso artículo, titulado Las palabras y los hechos de Obama en Latinoamérica, el importante diario admite que en este medio año de presidencia demócrata, el mandatario estadounidense tiene ante sí demasiados frentes abiertos.

Entre ellos cita la lucha contra la crisis económica, la reforma sanitaria, el cambio energético hacia un modelo más ecológico y una política exterior que transcurre por otros meridianos del planeta.

Sin embargo, a juicio de Antonio Lafuente, autor de la nota, ninguno de esos problemas justifica que Obama ni siquiera haya cambiado embajadores en el continente, donde mayoritariamente mantiene a diplomáticos nombrados por Bush.

El exceso de trabajo es el argumento esgrimido para delegar su política hacia el área en su secretaria de Estado, Hillary Clinton, quien mantiene buenas relaciones con representantes de los antiguos intereses en Latinoamérica, destaca Lafuente.

Esos eventos explican que, tras afirmar que América Latina dejaría de ser su histórico patio trasero, Washington mantiene los intereses nacionales de antaño a través de una “diplomacia suave”, dijo a Público un experto del Institute for Policy Studies.

Entre esos intereses figura la conclusión de los tratados de libre comercio pendientes de firmar en la región (Panamá y Colombia), tal y como declaró el representante de Comercio estadounidense, Ron Kir, tras la Cumbre de las Américas.

Para el analista del citado instituto, esa tesis contradice las promesas de campaña de Obama de volver a negociar esos pactos, con el objetivo de que sirvieran a las necesidades de los pueblos y no a los estrechos intereses de las corporaciones.

El propio experto aseveró a Público que la Casa Blanca, a través de Hillary Clinton, retomó tanto la agenda de seguridad como la política comercial de Bush, mediante una iniciativa conocida como Caminos para la Prosperidad en las Américas.

Ese denominado Plan B de la fallida Área de Libre Comercio de las Américas pretende continuar con las reglas que rigen la economía liberal y socavar proyectos regionales alternativos como el ALBA y la UNASUR, denuncia el informante.

Para Lafuente, quizás los dos mejores termómetros con los que medir la política exterior de Obama en el continente son Honduras y Colombia.

En el primero, único país centroamericano en el que Washington tiene una base, Obama ha sido criticado por no respaldar con hechos su rechazo verbal al golpe de Estado contra el mandatario constitucional Manuel Zelaya.

Parece confundir el venerable e históricamente ajeno a Estados Unidos principio de no intervención, con la obligación y el derecho que tiene de cortar lazos comerciales, económicos y políticos con un Gobierno que él mismo reconoce como golpista, agrega.

En el caso de Colombia parece contradecirse, pues si no quiere ser el policía de la región no debería desembarcar allí, donde instalará siete bases militares, una decisión que levantó protestas y gran preocupación en toda la región, señala.

Para rematar, Lafuente manifiesta que otro termómetro útil para medir la política de Washington es Cuba, que sufre hace más de cinco décadas un férreo bloqueo económico y comercial por parte de la potencia norteña.

Obama apenas abolió algunas restricciones, una acción que tan sólo ha supuesto un retorno a la estrategia de William Clinton, concluye.

After some 25 years of an acknowledged health care crisis Americans find themselves partnered with an administration committed to fixing or at the very least attempting to fix the health care system in the US. Yet even before the healing begins, fractions of those same Americans, duped by health industry tactics, assume the role of clown in a special-interest-created circus designed to disrupt & stall the very reform they seek.

An obscene strategy to be sure, one sacrificing dignity & pitting ordinary Americans against their own self-interests, but also one calling attention to the power & deceit of industry ringmasters determined to maintain the status quo & the protection of their own self-interests… even at the expense of the health & well-being of the American people.

While this tactic is nothing new in the world of special interest, its use in this instance is particularly troubling as it deliberately confuses those vulnerable Americans who would most benefit from reform.

The health care industry has successfully turned what should be a human issue into a political purpose benefiting their own agenda, & in the process making it abundantly clear, their interests lie not with you or your family but rather their own interests, a move leaving the American people behind in favor of profits.

Yet despite what you may believe or may have been led to believe the power is yours to decide… The Obama administration has effectively reinstated the notion of government by & for the people.

Health care is in crisis, but for industry insiders it is a crisis of conscience.

Come on America, you see thru this… don’t you?

Greetings all, it's been a long time since I posted. Hopefully there are still a few of you out here that remember me, as I was a semi-permanent fixture on this blog throughout the entire campaign to get our President elected.

I had a death in the family at the beginning of the year that turned my life from calm into chaos and I laid down my pen. After a lot of soul searching and contemplation on just how fickle the spark of life can be, I just wanted to add my two cents worth on what far too many people are overlooking in the health care debate, the true cost of sickness and death.

Yesterday was canvass across america, a grassroots event that requires the signitures of a large number of American Citizens who are for Health Care Reform. This blog is about my expierence as part of this small group in Henderson, Ky.

I have been a member of My.BarachObama.com since right before the election was won. I was hopeing to be able to help with the campain, in some small way. However, nothing materialized out of my involvment with this site until yesterday, 7-25-09.

I checked the website (which I had come to do only sporadically) and for the first time seen an event that was actually in my location! So I called the contact number listed on the website and was connected to a Mr. James Glenn. James was ablt to tell me a few things about the event, but was unable to give me any specifics because he was the organizer for the whole state. Getting in touch with a local contact proved to be an impossability before the event, so I decided to just drop by.

I arrive at the library at 2:01p.m., only slightly late. In my mind images are invoked of a thriving group of volunteers assembled somewhere in the Library in a large group. A small but veritable Army of citizens who are ready for their voices to be heard. People who are emotionally Charged and empowered by their collective efforts to cause Change in america. I imagine a motley group of diverse races and class's, uniting to a common cause of bringing healthcare to everyone, to Investing in the people with who'm we share a common weal as well as a common destiny. These are lofty preconceptions that I assumed and conjured up in the mist of my mind.

On entering the doors of the Public Library I see an older man about the age of 50 or better. He is clothed in jeans and a black T-shirt that features Barach Obama and holding handouts that contain information about the 3 core principles of our proposed HealthCare plan. "Are you with the Organizing of America, Barach Obama Health Care Group?", I ask him. He looks at me and says "yes". " How many people are here or are coming" I ask. " Just me and you" he replies...

It turnes out that because of the possability of rain that most people decided not to come at all. So we decided to simply stand in front of the Library and speak to people as they came in or out. I'd say the number of people who responded positivley was pretty much equal to those who responded Negatively to our promptings. Even with even numbers, a lot could be gleaned from the types of people and the way they responded. By far the most likely to sign the petition where the Poor, African Americans, and the Elderly. Those that responded rudely or negativley where more likely to be getting out of a Jaguar or other expensive vehicle, Or expressed in some way that they where Christian,.

This last assertian, that Christianity = Republicanism= opposition to Healthcare reform is one I'm sure everyone has heard at sometime this year ( If you say, click past FOX news just for a second!) . Now it turns out that the organizer of the event, who was with me, was an ordained Minister of an Evangelical Church, as well as a Former Veteran who can't even get affordable healthcare through the V.A.! His dynamic with the public was interesting, because he himself contradicted many of their assumptions just by being who he is.

After collecting the signatures I went home. I am troubled that only 2 people showed up to collect signatures, and I hope I can attract more volunteers to help-out with healthcare. I can choose to look at the small numbers and see the premonition of failure for this Health Care proposal or I can choose to continue to invision the Mob of eager participants that I seen in my mind, and help to Make that dream a Reality.

I know healthcare is so important, that reinvesting in our people is what we need to do to truly build a nation that is united. We need to realise that we are all connected in myriad and diverse and even mysteriouse ways, and that by helping others, we are also helping ourselves. Hopefully more will come to see this Holistic Vision, and join in the movement to realise it.

I greatly admired Michael Jackson. I admire anyone who's the very best at what they do, and Michael Jackson was definitely that. I remember when I first heard him. He was doing a tune called "Who's Lovin' You?" He was a mere child at the time, but his talent was so fully developed, and he sang with so much emotional maturity, I mistook the high pitch of his voice to be that of a very soulful adult female. Then later when he did "Billie Jean" at the Motown reunion, he seemed to literally defy gravity as he Moonwalked across the stage. So yes, this young man was, without a doubt, one of the greatest entertainers who ever lived.

But Michael's life - that shooting star that dazzled humanity with its awesome display, only to burn out much too soon - threatens to serve as a perfect metaphor for America itself. The story of the United States parallels that of Michael Jackson. It is also the story of a precocious child star that dazzled humanity with its awesome display. The United States is undoubtedly a superstar among nations, but we must not let hubris allow us to forget that among those very same nations, we are nothing more than a precocious child.

While the United States is 233 years old, that's relatively nothing when it comes to the history of nations. Iran, one of the oldest nations on Earth, is over 8000 years old. That means that when Jesus Christ walked the Earth, Iran was more than 6000 years older than the United States is today, even then. We need to keep that in mind as we formulate the language of our foreign policy, because believe me, it is a fact that has not been lost on the Iranian people.

The History of “Universal Health Care”

Part One – An Introduction

The concept of Universal Health Care has been around since our Great Grandparents originally thought of the program, when we were rebuilding our country and families after the 1929 Stock Market Crash. I’m uncertain about how they referred to our future medical programs back then; however, our people, the Medical Profession and Insurance Companies worked together with the support of our Public and Elected Leaders and made plans to ensure that we, their children and grandchildren benefited from and received the best medical care in the world. In fact, they developed a new kind of Medical System that had never existed before. They intuitively knew that it could be done and boldly followed their hearts and instincts to create and develop medicines and cures for every type of illness.

Our Great Grandparents were big dreamers and believed that if we researched and really applied ourselves, that by the year 2000, we could, (and eventually would), “discover cures for every disease in the world!” Considering that Alex Fleming’s discovery of the first antibiotic, (penicillin in 1928), wasn’t made readily available, until 1946; and that the first immunization, Jonas Salk’s Polio Vaccination, wasn’t developed until 1955 – this just shows how quickly our medical knowledge has grown and how ambitious our Great Grandparents were as well. As these initial discoveries only served to ignite our imaginations, wet our appetites and spurned our ambition to find more solutions.

In those days, our understanding about Medical Science was still very primitive and as a result, we had few medications and even less technology. And although, medicine and medical practices have been around since the beginning of mankind; during the initial development of the first structured Medical System, some of us still associated the science with nutty professors, witch doctors and other images that made us laugh. After all, medicine was basically an unexplored territory, which was originally started, managed and primarily financed by our churches – the mission to take care of people and all – it was a natural fit.

We also knew that in the past, medical research was done and cures were found at the request of a King; and inevitably, developments in Medical Science was restricted to what he was interested in discovering, as the result of his own health and that of his family. However, in America, we weren’t tied to those restraints and since our, Declaration of Independence, clearly states that all men, (and women), are created equal, our Great Grandparents decided to get as close as possible to creating and manifesting this ideal way of living for all of us. So, our Great Grandparents, desiring to breathe life into the words of our Founding Fathers, looked toward the future and dreamed about what a True Democracy could be; and our Voice was nearly unanimous. We decided to demystify the science, modernize medicine, and develop the highest level of Medical Care possible; and by encouraging Everyday Citizens to become directly involved, we knew we could do it!

As a new country, we had the opportunity to build our society based on what we determined was most important and it was quickly decided that maintaining our citizen’s optimal health and increasing our longevity was essential and would also assist us in achieving our mutual long-term goals. They knew that by advancing our medical “know how” and skills and developing well equipped Hospitals that we would all be positively affected and empowered to have the strength and endurance to build our Nation and spread the concept of personal freedom and Democracy around the world.

This was the first time that a country made a full and concerted effort to develop a Medical System that was arranged to protect and take care of all of its citizens in an organized and consolidated way. In order to reach this goal, they knew that we would have to develop a strong employee base of Doctors, Nurses and Technological Staff to make finding cures, developing hospitals and innovating new technology possible. And this foundation of employee’s was going to be built by our own citizens, the “Common Man”, becoming educated and filling the positions. So they encouraged our Grandparents to enter the Medical Professions; (and this tradition of encouraging our children to become Doctor’s and Nurse’s continues today, as becoming a part of the medical establishment is considered one of the highest aspirations that an American citizen can attain.)

However, we immediately recognized that the costs for Hospitals, staffing and the creation of “Medical Miracles” were too much for one individual, business or community to pay. So, we decided to use our primary source of consolidated money – our Taxpayer Dollars – to provide for the expenses of educating students, creating Medical Technology and developing hospitals and commercial buildings for Medical Research. After all, like schools, every community wanted well-equipped Hospitals; and we knew, as our understanding of Medical Science and Health Care grew that we would want to utilize the newest Technology and benefit from what the updated innovations and new medications could provide for our families and selves.

Then our Great Grandparents decided to invent the Pharmaceutical Industry as well! To begin this exciting project, we concentrated our energies on organizing and figuring out which illnesses affected the most citizens; because developing remedies for those diseases first would assist us in strengthening and stabilizing the health of our businesses, our nation and the people. And, within a short period of time, Doctors and Nurses, who once traveled long distances by horse and buggy to a family’s home, in order to provide treatment and take care of one patient at a time, were now given the ability to assist numerous patients on a daily bases in a structured environment that supported optimal treatment. These supports frequently resulted in rapid and full recovery, so our citizens could quickly return to work and continue building up their lives and our country.

And we noticed something else as well. By providing patients with easy access to medical care that our level of productivity and longevity immediately began to increase. We also discovered that when we “catch” an illness at the beginning and provide effective treatment for the patient, the ailment doesn’t have the chance to wear the body down, so the patient’s recovery is much quicker and their physical foundation gains resiliency and is strengthened.

Yet, during the early and mid-stages of developing our new Medical Culture, because of the task and goal we set for our New Industry’s was so expansive, we understood that they were not strong enough to be self-supporting and go it alone. So, we steadfastly countered all opposition and devoutly continued using our taxes to make certain that what we knew that we could accomplish and bring into existence had the necessary resources to continue being developed and grow stronger. Additionally, to assist the growth and accelerate the advancement of these new businesses and services, our Great Grandparents and Grandparents decided to let the Industry’s sell the medications and new technology that they each created to foreign nations, who we believed would eagerly purchase the products. After all, we knew that every human being around the world is interested in preserving their health, being cured of illnesses and having the technology available to quickly and accurately diagnosis and treat their symptoms. Plus, extending the longevity of human life was considered the primary selling point.

We had faith – an inner knowing – that one day we could accomplish whatever we set our minds to do and that both the Pharmaceutical Industry and Medical Care supports – such as Technology and Hospitals, Doctor’s and Nurse’s and all aspects of Medical Care Services – would eventually be capable of financing themselves and pay their employees high wages as well. And since we, the people – us normal folks – were the ones discovering all the medicines and investing ourselves – our time, skills, devotion, imagination, faith, and money – to create the Pharmaceutical Industry and this new type of Structured Medical System; it was formally established that we had earned the American Right to benefit from what we invented, built and transformed into reality. Just as someone who cooks a good meal in their own kitchen has the right to eat what they made.

Our Great Grandparents believed that all wonderful things are possible; but, most of all they believed in their children, their grandchildren, (us) and their own capabilities. And by joining their efforts and supporting their dream – together we succeed in creating a reality that has never existed before; the ability to improve the health and increase the longevity of all individuals.

In my last article I pointed out that the character of America is being fundamentally changed. In less than two generations we've gone from citizens who were politically engaged and socially aware, to zombies who simply accept what we're being told by our favorite demagogues. We've gone from citizens who held our politicians' feet to the fire, to a group of cattle who allow our politicians to dictate what is, and what isn't, off the table - in spite of our instinctive clamor for the simple adherence to the law. We've allowed politicians to go from representatives with the single mandate of doing our biding, to so-called leaders who dictate to us what's in our best interest. As a direct result, the script has been flipped - we now define what's in the people's best interest by what's in the best interest of the politicians who are supposed to defer us.

On our countdown to a new year in 2010, Paul Broun (R-Ga.) wants everyone to ring in the “Year of the Bible”. He wants to pass legislation to honor the good book. Opposition is strong in the Democratic party, but whats the big deal? We’re already burning them suckers in Afghanistan. I wrote a post about it, and got negative feedback from every dem, saying I’m a GOP’r in disguise. In fact, I’m just a student pointing out similarities between different governments past and present. That isn’t choosing sides at all. When people see a political blog, they are automatically trying to figure out what party I am affiliated with. None. Well, whoever decides to pay me the most. Just kidding(That’s illegal for all you kids out there, no selling votes.) Sorry for ranting but I’ve been enraged at some of my readers that just don’t get the whole picture. Someone said I’m a Christian that hates America. No, I’m a Christian that loves America; the thought of America more like it. It used to stand for something, and all I see and read is how far it has gone from what our forefathers set forth to achieve. I am not ashamed of being an American. Our differences are what makes this country unique. I say instead of the “Year of the Bible”, we just go with the Chinese astrology and name it after an animal. Or we can ring in the New Year as a world united. All across Washington people are joking about what year its going to be after that. Year of the encyclopedia? Quran? Las Vegas escort Pamphlets? Whatever the year, I’ll be ringing it in with a smile, knowing I’m in a country that spends too much time on a stupid idea. May 25, in Syria ended 36 th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC).

The meeting adopted a final declaration in which the Islamic countries criticized Israel, but at the same time expressed their readiness to improve relations.

"Developing ties with Israel should be linked to its compliance with specific obligations in reaching a just and comprehensive peace that guarantees the restoration of rights (the Palestinians) and the return of occupied territories", - says the paper, which is called the Damascus Declaration.

Representatives of countries stated that they do not have to reward Israel for its crimes. The final document, they strongly condemned the actions of the Jewish state to change the character of the occupied Arab land in East Jerusalem, continued his siege of the Gaza Strip and settlements in the West Bank.

The Foreign Ministers of 57 member countries of OIC also reaffirmed the right to an occupied people to struggle for the liberation of their land and noted that this can not be called terrorism.

In the Damascus declaration condemning the attacks on Islam, inciting religious hatred and hostility, states that terrorism is a "dangerous international phenomenon that has no national, religious or cultural affiliation."

Remember, today reported on the initiative of one of the parties represented in the Israeli Knesset, to oblige Israel to swear allegiance to the state.

Make Pirates Fear America

The President has an opportunity to demonstrate dire consequences for all those who would attack an American flagged vessel.

What’s needed is the use of immediate and decisive force. Any ships responding to the pirates’ calls for assistance should be blown out of the water – once in their life-boats, they must surrender all weapons on be sunk. Round up any survivors.

Siege the ship, or lifeboat, or whatever where they are holding the remaining hostage, the captain. Go in hard, allowing those who immediately surrender to be taken into USS Navy custody, while killing the others for resisting.

Surviving pirates, including those who lost their ships when they came to aid the pirates should be taken ashore and told to identify their homes and families and the homes of their families, friends and loved ones. Commandos should enter each of those buildings, throwing out the occupants without allowing them to take any personal items from the homes. They the commandos should torch, firebomb and flamethrower the residences down to the rubble. Then place small charges and blow up the foundation, damaging it enough that it can’t be reused.

Leave behind leaflets in local dialect bearing the words, “American Flagged vessels should not be attacked”.

Establish a set of repercussions so devastating that pirates avoid US flagged ships.

Budget: Promises Made; Promises Watered Down

Why does it seem that the President is watering down his budget proposal to chase votes he won’t get? Republicans proved during the stimulus bill that despite all the concessions made to them then, they would never vote in favor of anything the President wants.

With Democrats, Independents and Moderate Republicans like me on his side, the President should focus on keeping his campaign promises because John Boaner, Mitch McConnell, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity are opposed to fresh air, sunshine and Jesus, so long as they think President Obama is in favor of them.

Mr. President, you have helped them marginalize themselves to the maximum extent imaginable. Now it’s time to stand true to your word. Frankly, not everything you promised was what I wanted, but if you do what you told us you’d do, I will continue to support you, and I will vote against those who oppose you, regardless what party they’re in.

At the dawn of a new century, a newly elected United States president was forced to confront a grave threat to the nation — an escalating series of unprovoked attacks on Americans by Muslim terrorists. Worse still, these Islamic partisans operated under the protection and sponsorship of rogue Arab states ruled by ruthless and cunning dictators.

Sluggish in recognizing the full nature of the threat, America entered the war well after the enemy’s call to arms. Poorly planned and feebly executed, the American effort proceeded badly and at great expense — resulting in a hastily negotiated peace and an equally hasty declaration of victory.

As timely and familiar as these events may seem, they occurred more than two centuries ago. The president was Thomas Jefferson, and the terrorists were the Barbary pirates. Unfortunately, many of the easy lessons to be plucked from this experience have yet to be fully learned.

The Barbary states, modern-day Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya, are collectively known to the Arab world as the Maghrib (”Land of Sunset”), denoting Islam’s territorial holdings west of Egypt. With the advance of Mohammed’s armies into the Christian Levant in the seventh century, the Mediterranean was slowly transformed into the backwater frontier of the battles between crescent and cross. Battles raged on both land and sea, and religious piracy flourished.

The Maghrib served as a staging ground for Muslim piracy throughout the Mediterranean, and even parts of the Atlantic. America’s struggle with the terror of Muslim piracy from the Barbary states began soon after the 13 colonies declared their independence from Britain in 1776, and continued for roughly four decades, finally ending in 1815.

Although there is much in the history of America’s wars with the Barbary pirates that is of direct relevance to the current “war on terror,” one aspect seems particularly instructive to informing our understanding of contemporary Islamic terrorists. Very simply put, the Barbary pirates were committed, militant Muslims who meant to do exactly what they said.

Take, for example, the 1786 meeting in London of Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja, the Tripolitan ambassador to Britain. As American ambassadors to France and Britain respectively, Jefferson and Adams met with Ambassador Adja to negotiate a peace treaty and protect the United States from the threat of Barbary piracy.

These future United States presidents questioned the ambassador as to why his government was so hostile to the new American republic even though America had done nothing to provoke any such animosity. Ambassador Adja answered them, as they reported to the Continental Congress, “that it was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Koran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Musselman who should be slain in Battle was sure to go to Paradise.”

Sound familiar?

The candor of that Tripolitan ambassador is admirable in its way, but it certainly foreshadows the equally forthright declarations of, say, the Shiite Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in the 1980s and the Sunni Osama bin Laden in the 1990s, not to mention the many pronouncements of their various minions, admirers, and followers. Note that America’s Barbary experience took place well before colonialism entered the lands of Islam, before there were any oil interests dragging the U.S. into the fray, and long before the founding of the state of Israel.

America became entangled in the Islamic world and was dragged into a war with the Barbary states simply because of the religious obligation within Islam to bring belief to those who do not share it. This is not something limited to “radical” or “fundamentalist” Muslims.

Which is not to say that such obligations lead inevitably to physical conflict, at least not in principle. After all peaceful proselytizing among various religious groups continues apace throughout the world, but within the teachings of Islam, and the history of Muslims, this is a well-established militant thread.

The Islamic basis for piracy in the Mediterranean was an old doctrine relating to the physical or armed jihad, or struggle.

To Muslims in the heyday of Barbary piracy, there were, at least in principle, only two forces at play in the world: the Dar al-Islam, or House of Islam, and the Dar al-Harb, or House of War. The House of Islam meant Muslim governance and the unrivaled authority of the sharia, Islam’s complex system of holy law. The House of War was simply everything that fell outside of the House of Islam — that area of the globe not under Muslim authority, where the infidel ruled. For Muslims, these two houses were perpetually at war — at least until mankind should finally embrace Allah and his teachings as revealed through his prophet, Mohammed.

The point of jihad is not to convert by force, but to remove the obstacles to the infidels’ conversion so that they shall either convert or become a dhimmi (a non-Muslim who accepts Islamic dominion) and pay the jizya, or poll tax. The goal is to bring all of the Dar al-Harb into the peace of the Dar al-Islam, and to eradicate unbelief. The Koran also promises rewards to those who fight in the jihad, plunder and glory in this world and the delights of paradise in the next.

Although the piratical activities of Barbary genuinely degenerated over the centuries from pure considerations of the glory of jihad to less grandiose visions of booty and state revenues, it is important to remember that the religious foundations of the institution of piracy remained central.

Even after it became commonplace for the pirate captains or their crew to be renegade Europeans, it was essential that these former Christians “turn Turk” and convert to Islam before they could be accorded the honor of engagement in al-jihad fil-bahr, the holy war at sea.

In fact, the peoples of Barbary continued to consider the pirates as holy warriors even after the Barbary rulers began to allow non-religious commitments to command their strategic use of piracy. The changes that the religious institution of piracy underwent were natural, if pathological. Just as the concept of jihad is invoked by Muslim terrorists today to legitimize suicide bombings of noncombatants for political gain, so too al-jihad fil-bahr, the holy war at sea, served as the cornerstone of the Barbary states’ interaction with Christendom.

In times of conflict, America tends to focus on personalities over ideas or movements, trying to play the man, not the board — as if capturing or killing Osama bin Laden, for example, would instantly end the present conflict. But such thinking loses sight of the fact that ideas have consequences. If one believes that God commands something, this belief is not likely to dissipate just because the person who elucidated it has been silenced. Islam, as a faith, is as essential a feature of the terrorist threat today as it was of the Barbary piracy over two centuries ago.

The Barbary pirates were not a “radical” or “fundamentalist” sect that had twisted religious doctrine for power and politics, or that came to recast aspects of their faith out of some form of insanity. They were simply a North African warrior caste involved in an armed jihad — a mainstream Muslim doctrine. This is how the Muslims understood Barbary piracy and armed jihad at the time, and, indeed, how the physical jihad has been understood since Mohammed revealed it as the prophecy of Allah.

Obviously, and thankfully, not every Muslim is obligated, or even really inclined, to take up this jihad. Indeed, many Muslims are loath to personally embrace this physical struggle. But that does not mean they are all opposed to such a struggle any more than the choice of many Westerners not to join the police force or the armed services means they do not support those institutions.

Whether “insurgents” are fighting in Iraq or “rebels” and “militants” are skirmishing in Chechnya or Hamas “activists” are detonating themselves in Israel, Westerners seem unwilling to bring attention to the most salient feature of all these groups: They claim to be acting in the name of Islam.

It is very easy to chalk it all up to regional squabbles, economic depression, racism, or post-colonial nationalistic self-determinism. Such explanations undoubtedly enter into part of the equation — they are already part of the propaganda that clouds contemporary analysis. But as Thomas Jefferson and John Adams came to learn back in 1786, the situation becomes a lot clearer when you listen to the stated intentions and motivations of the terrorists and take them at face value.

Britain’s 200-year jihad

On my travels for the past few days, I have been reading a book which tells the story of a quite astonishing part of British history of which I was previously unaware. In ‘White Gold’, Giles Milton records the appalling details — gleaned,it appears, from a wealth of historical documents including diaries and letters — of a seaborne Islamic jihad against Britain which lasted for no less than two centuries.

From the early seventeenth to nineteenth centuries, thousands of British men women and children were kidnapped by Arab corsairs and sold into slavery in Morocco where they were kept in conditions of unspeakable barbarism. The astounding thing is that these British victims were not merely seized at sea where they ran the gauntlet of such pirates in places such as the Straits of Gibraltar. They were actually abducted from Britain itself.

Corsairs from a place in Morocco called Sale — who became known in Britain as the ‘Sally Rovers’ — sailed up the Cornish coast in July 1625, for example, came ashore dressed in djellabas and wielding damascene scimitars, burst into the parish church at Mount’s Bay and dragged out 60 men women and children whom they shipped off to Morocco. Thousands more Britons were seized from their villages or their ships and dispatched to the hell-holes of the Moroccan slave pens, from where they were forced to work all hours in appalling conditions building the vast palace of the monstrous and psychopathic Sultan, Moulay Ismail, who tortured and butchered them at whim. Most of them perished, but the book records the survival of a tenacious Cornish boy Thomas Pellow, who survived 23 years of this ordeal and whose descendant, Lord Exmouth, finally ended the white slave trade when he destroyed Algiers in 1816.

The book makes clear that this assault upon the British people (and upon Europeans and Americans who were similarly seized) was a jihad. The Sally Rovers, writes Milton, were called ‘al-ghuzat’– the term once used for the soldiers who fought with the Prophet — and were hailed as religious warriors engaged in a holy war against the infidel Christians who were pressurised to convert to Islam under threat of hideous punishment. What is even more striking was the response of the British crown. For almost two centuries, it made only the most ineffectual attempts to rescue its enslaved subjects. Those who had succumbed to the torture and inhumanity of the Sultan and converted to Islam were deemed to be no longer British and therefore outside the scope of any rescue. The pleas of Pellow’s parents were simply brushed aside. Popular outrage forced successive Kings to dispatch a series of feeble emissaries to try to get the Sultan to end this vile traffic and release the slaves, all to no avail.

But this went on for virtually two centuries. For almost 200 years the British state either sat on its hands or wrung them impotently while the Islamic jihad seized, enslaved and butchered its people. And then it appears, this staggering onslaught was all but airbrushed out of our history.

Soon after winning independence from England, the United States faced another war. Muslim pirates operating off North Africa’s Barbary Coast were seizing U.S., as well as European, ships sailing in international waters, holding them for tribute payment or plunder.

In 1786, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, meeting in London with Tripoli’s Muslim ambassador to Britain, inquired as to the reason for such Arab hostility. Acknowledging their attacks were unprovoked, the Tripoli ambassador explained it was their right and duty under the Koran as faithful Muslim followers to plunder and enslave the unfaithful - with those Muslims dying in the process going to paradise. To stop the attacks, the United States initially agreed to pay the Barbary pirates tribute, equal to about 20 percent of government revenues. Only later did an indignant United States launch two wars against them, ending in victory in 1815 and no further payments. European nations, acting individually and collectively, suppressed pirate activity as well, with the French conquest of Algiers in 1830 providing the last nail in the Barbary Pirates’ coffin.

Today, Muslim pirates again sail the seas off Africa’s coast. Mostly Somalis, these pirates have already attacked more than 60 ships this year in the vicinity of the Gulf of Aden - almost 5 times more than occurred all last year. Pirates gain confidence as owners prove willing to pay ransoms for the safe return of ships and crews, much like the United States first did with the Barbary Pirates.

Terrorizing the Terrorists

How do you deter an enemy who is willing to kill himself in order to kill you? You strike at something more important to him than his own life. Defining that will be easy for me. The next question is can America be as ruthless as our enemies?

The time has come to end the fruitless and unsustainable effort to search and destroy every cave in Afghanistan and bomb every campground in bordering Pakistan. It’s counterproductive anyway.

What will put the fear of America into terrorist masterminds and those who would follow their orders is simple and radical revenge. Masterminds have families: Cousins, brothers and fathers. Eliminate them. All at once, or one at a time, it works just as well. The ones who survive an initial “hunt” will go into hiding. Having some adult male relatives killed and the rest hiding out in caves will demoralize masterminds and their loved ones. You cannot work and support your women like that. You can’t make more baby masterminds that way. You cannot continue the blood line. The women and children will pressure them to stop their plotting and bombing.

People want to leave a familial legacy, and they can’t do that under those circumstances over the long term.

Should America do that? Yes. Do we have the “intestinal fortitude” and sustainable motivation? I don’t think so. But we should, and it shouldn’t take another terrorist attack to get us there.

For the last seven years the CIA has been kidnapping people from other nations and torturing them. Why not just go in there and quietly shoot them to death?

Frankly, by not killing women or children the way those terrorists routinely do, we can even claim the moral high ground.
