I started this blog because I believe many of us have reservations and/or valuable suggestions about the Economic Recovery Act. The daily experiences of the average citizen can provide insights that are denied the politicians. The collective wisdom of we, the "silent majority", can contribute guidance denied the politicians in their lofty isolation. Hopefully, President Obama's staff will be monitoring it regularly.
Perhaps our concerns will be addressed by the President and our fears allayed. Maybe our suggestions will be seriously considered or, in some way, influence decision making. In either case, its a chance to have our voices heard.
All I ask is that you set aside your politics and maintain an open mind. Focus on the greater good of our people, our communities, our country and, indeed, the world. And, do it with respect!
"YES WE CAN!"
I can do without broadband internet access. It is not a necessity. However, good clean water is a necessity. Why not provide states and local governments money to expand access to water and sewer in rural areas. The area I live in isn't even that rural but I still can't get county water service. We have a well and our water has a lot of problems, so I have to spend a lot of money on bottled water for drinking. We still have to shower, clean, and cook with our well water and I have no idea how bad it is for us. I've done simple home tests on the water and there is not bacteria in the water but a comprehensive water test by a lab is too expensive. So I just don't drink the water and hope whatever is in it isn't too bad for me and my family. I sure would love to have county or city water service though. I wouldn't even mind paying the bill. Between the water I buy now, the repairs we've had to do to our well and plumbing, and annual testing for bacteria and nitrates, the water bill would be cheap!
Congrats, even my 80 year old mother in Indiana voted for you which was no small feat. I am a college professor in Fort Lauderdale and I made sure all my students went out and voted but I want to tell you, I admire your managerial skills, more than anything. One of the main things is getting people involved, when a person believes what they are doing is their idea or benefit to them, they always perform much better. Never before have I seen this applied enmasse as you did with our volunteers and donaters, which brings me to my point. As a professor, I have noted that you already have a majority of the young people in college with you and now feeling part of our success. They are involved in your presidency and a year ago they did not even know who the vice president was. It is a entire new attitude from the young people, I love it. I have never seen this in 25 years of teaching.
My suggestion.. .offer a scholarship competition for the best energy efficient vehicle design, energy use in building and interior design, new energy sources and so on and so forth. Allow it developed at the university level in team effort so cross over skills in various programs can be utilized. Whenever ideas are exchanged between different majors thats when innovative new ideas occur Have a top 3-5 winner range, reward all members of the TEAM , faculty involved and school and do it annually. You have a fired up base, students as well as educators. The minds are here to help America solve our energy crisis, competition always leads to perfection, drive and purpose. The reward increases all of these.I am working in holographic technology we have already took 200 dollars worth of equipment and a couple months ago made a HD TV display the objects as holographs in front of you. This technology would decrease the need to travel by virtually putting someone in a conference room with complete interactivity without being there. If you watched CNN on election night they did this with an alternative method of broadcasting a live person.
This is here and it is available now.
Anyway, all America needs is a push in the educational system to develop it cheaply and enmasse.
If new jobs and new energy is what we need, we need new inovations and lets put our young minds in this manhanttan project and become the technology leaders of the world.
Barack needs to do the following in his opening statement at the upcoming debate:
Explain what has been going on at Palin and McCain rallies lately, including saying, "I've heard people screaming to kill me."
Say, "I've been accused of being too calm, cool, and collected, but one thing I'm not is crazy."
He then needs to connect how McCain has fostered a vigilante mentality (despite his outer appearances) with this wild behavior.
Finally, he needs to use crazy in connection with McCain's events such that "McCain" and "crazy" are yoked together, without actually saying McCain is crazy.
This will put McCain on the defensive and, if Barack carefully describes what is happening, be irrefutable. As McCain is probably planning some punch or new announcement, this would take the wind out of his sails.
The recent behavior at Republican rallies has me horrified. America should be scared of these events, which are so redolent of early Nazi events. This is how fascism starts. And it must be called out on a major national stage. If ignored, it will fester and grow.
Barack also has to say, "you know me" to the camera. Because it's true: we do know him. We probably know much more about him than about John McCain and certainly more than about Sarah Palin
Otherwise, the campaign needs to link Palin to ignorant yahoos, because all the soccer/hockey moms I know should be terrified of her and look down on her as classless and foreign.
Please, let's win this one!
Dear Senator Obama,
The question continues to come up, "how are you going to pay for your programs?" I offer a possible solution which worked for our grandparents, and parent's generations, US Savings Bonds!
One of the biggest problems today is the lack of personal savings, and the dependence on credit. As a pastor of two small churches my family lives from check to check. The only savings we now have (thanks to the past eight years of failed policies)is the small amount I am able to put into my personal retirement plan; which has lost more this year than I can put in. How will I ever pay for my daughter's college education??? She plans to be a lawyer and has the wish of attending Harvard Law - there is no way I can afford to pay unless you are able to fulfill your plans as President. Our Son's education is being paid through the Army - thank God for the GI bill.
Since 1935 savings bonds have been sold to fund various national projects. The first bonds, "Baby Bonds," raised over $4billion dollars. That was 1935, just after the big crash of the markets. Just think what a Savings Bond promotion, along with a renewal of US payroll deduction plan could fund today. A new Freedom bond to free us from foreign dependence, used to fund alternative energies; or free us from a 10 trillion dollar debt.
"President" Obama, please renew the American Dream!
Just a suggestion from a small town pastor. God Bless You, Rev. Lee Legg
PS There is a wonderful video clip at www.ussavingsbonds.gov under history.
We are facing the biggest challenge and perhaps the greatest opportunity to-date. And there is not much time to act on this. The Republicans would like us to throw 700 Billion to 1 Trillion dollars at Wall Street to buy enough time to win the election, without solving the actual problems that got us here. We can't let them do that, but we can't let our markets fail. BUT, Obama could show remarkable leadership and begin to iconify himself as a leader among leaders (the kind that may be seen in once a generation) by rallying the democratic side under his banner to modify the proposal to begin to fix the actual problems. Now this proposal should obviously be constructed by economic advisors who understand the intricacies of the economy, but here are some basic suggestions: 1. Fix the cause of the problem The cause was housing prices falling and causing all this debt to become bad debt. We can fix a lot of the problem by increasing home values (a tall order, I know). This certainly wouldn't be easy but it might be possible if something totally new and unprecedented was attempted to limit what can happen to foreclosures. Adding new rules or a program to stop/limit foreclosures would also solve the problem from directly on Main Street. If Wall Street can feel confident that a house will be "insured" under a new program that helps the holding company prevent total loss and the homeowner loss of their home, you could end up solving the source of the entire economy problem! I'm a novice, but I like this method because it looks like it bypasses rewarding Wall Street with a Trillion dollars of tax money and it affects peoples lives directly and is clearly a solution to the average joe. (All they would hear is that, "Don’t worry about loosing your house, you just file for this program and you get on a government payment plan." or something like that). Again. I'm a novice, but I always thought that all that trumped up interest was just hooey anyway. 2. Restore Market Confidence This means finding a way to help the market feel better about the way things are going. This is a complicated thing. Republican side focused on just this where they come up with the justification for the 700 Billion. Instead of just throwing money at the problem my suggestion is to restore strict regulations. Maybe we can support some conditional bailouts to shore up the damage from the "lost interest" of a plan like I suggested in #1. But, and this is important, we can't let them "fix" the problem with the kind of suggested "Don't read - Just sign" plan. We could be in danger of letting another misguided "Patriot Act" type bill get through and screw us up further. We've got a limited control and they NEED us. Mostly we need to just take charge of this situation. We need to own-it, get it fixed, and then finally attack McCain for being a major cause of all this. Even the Republicans are having a hard time supporting McCain's history on this disaster. If Obama can Save the Economy and Save the World from a world-wide depression, he will instantly earn his wings as the experienced leader with expert judgment dispite what McCain has been trying to mock. Finally, we can hit McCain with an offensive. Drive home that the "deregulation at all costs" is a bad approach and that McCain isn't really aware of what's going on (maybe go with the "old and confused" theme). Then maybe we'll see not only the Presidency, but also a filibuster proof majority.
Obama needs to hit hard and fast.
He needs to be like Mohommed Ali and
Float Like a butterfly and sting like a bee.
He can easily use the truth to define McCain as a flip flopping Bush wannabe.
He needs to use Sarah Palin as an EXAMPLE of McCain's tendency to make impulsive, poor decisions.
He needs to DEFINE McCain as carrying the FAILED bush policies that have led to the current economic crisis.
He needs to emphasize the COST of the war for every American both in lives and DOLLARS.
Even though the loss of American lives has gone down.
He needs to ask America if they want a MORE conservative Supreme Court and MORE conservative federal judicial appointments.
He needs to ask America if we want to continue to give up our constitutional rights while not gaining in safety.
He needs to ask America if we want universal health care and tax cuts for the middle and lower classes.
He needs to ask America if we want more federal subsidies for the oil companies that are gouging us at the gas pumps.
He needs to ask America if we want better schools for our children.
He needs to ask America if we are willing to provide community services to those who need them.
He needs to ask us what we are willing to do.
He needs to tell us what he will do with specificity and charisma.
He needs to win this election.
We have several specific suggestions that should gain Senator Obama increased media attention and should help attract undecided voters. Senator McCain and Governor Palin are dominating the news cycle, and even the negative coverage may help them in some way by providing attention. Senator Obama needs to seize the attention in a meaningful way.
First, we recommend that Senator Obama adopt and visually present and publicize something akin to a the "Contract with America" the Republicans under Congressman Gingrich developed in the early 1990s. One of the criticisms of Senator Obama has been a lack of specifics about what he plans to do as President. He has done a better job of providing those specifics in recent times, particularly during his acceptance speech in Denver, but this needs to be more emphatic, needs to be made crystal clear and memorable, and needs to be repeated over and over again. Senator Obama could sign the contract and make copies available on his website and by mail upon request. If Senator Obama draws up a plan of action with a number of specific policies he promises to pursue during his first term, it will gain attention and reassure voters who are repeatedly exposed to claims that Senator Obama is not prepared to be President.
Second, we recommend that the campaign, perhaps under the guidance of Michelle Obama with her considerable community organizing skills, send volunteers out to communities around the country, particularly in places where there are undecided voters and in battleground states, to ask people how they feel their government can best help them. Volunteers could visit schools, churches, community centers and, on behalf of the Obama campaign, ask for feedback that can help guide President Obama's first term. This will impress upon the folks in those communities, and others if they hear about it, Senator Obama's seriousness about listening to the American people and responding to their most pressing needs.
Related to this, Senator Obama could propose a call to large, profitable corporations to help fund community projects, including regular reports summarizing the use of their contributions, and offering tax benefits in return. He could reiterate a call for volunteers to serve communities in exchange for government scholarships. Senator and Mrs. Obama have plenty of ideas and experience along these lines, and we should hear more from them about just how they plan to move people to action on a grass-roots level.
Third, Senator Obama should drop a few names of well-respected people he intends to rely upon for advice during his first term, including some Republicans and independents. For example, he could mention Colin Powell and Wesley Clark on foreign policy and military matters. Better yet, the Senator could start by contacting some of those persons to discuss specific matters, and make sure the media notice that this contact is happening.

Hello Everyone!!
This blog is my ideas/suggestions for the weekend before the November election. We all now the United States is well aware of a massive movement that has swept across the country red and blue, he actually created a new American ''electoral color'' -- PURPLE. The human brain remembers alot, but when you vote on a Tuesday and your out on the weekend and you see massive...i mean M A S S I V E support for Obama that memory is going to stick with that person for that very important vote 3 days later. Broward County could/will offset the physical geography advantage of the conservatives in Florida (Broward County had risen to almost 1.8 million people, and increased by 10.1% between April 1, 2006 and July 1, 2006. This number is accounted for by an increase to 441,678 (25.3%) in its black population and an increase to 408,335 (22.8%)..Broward County is now "minority-majority". voter registarion needed though..35% of Floridas population in tri county area .I've listed resources and links to certain sites pertaining to the suggestion/idea.

There is growing interest in mental imagery for good reasons. First, imagery has ample potential for drawing information stored in long-term memory into working memory. This phenomenon has been called "high elaboration" by MacInnis and Price (1987), and tapping long-term memory is believed to lead to greater communications effectiveness (MacInnis and Jaworski 1989). Second, mental images have potential to be more personally relevant because they are anchored in the person's experience base and generated by his/her own mental processes. Strong relevance is a desirable facet of persuasive communications (MacInnis and Jaworski 1989). Next, imagery has the capability of being multisensory and thus could provide for multiple avenues of information processing. Triggering multiple channels of information processing is believed to enhance advertising effectiveness (Rossiter 1982; Lutz and Lutz 1978). Also, images are experiential rather than discursive; thus, they afford a richer base of raw stimuli. Finally, it can be argued that because imagery is believed to be more closely linked to long-term memory, is more personally relevant, and is richer, its effects on consumer attitudes and intentions will be more robust than stimuli which do not engage such depth and breadth of information processing. In fact, Richardson (1983) claims that the consequences of self-initiated thought imagery are indistinguishable from its genuine sensory counterparts. This contention underpins what should be the strong appeal of imagery to advertising strategists.

POST A COMMENT!!!
The high percentage of voters out there supporting McCain don't seem to know much about his history or his positions. His nebulous and constantly flip-flopping ways actually help him keep everyone guessing what he's for or against. These people are not willing to spend a lot of time thinking about the man, his positions, or what will happen if he actually is elected.
It is these same people that don't associate bush with McCain as "the same" and they hear rumors and innuendo about Obama on a regular enough basis to actually believe them no matter how ridiculous. I've talked to a few and they honestly tried to argue he's a secret Muslim born in another country that doesn't care about wounded troops and who wants only to be the worlds #1 liberal, raising taxes for all and to turn America into a socialist state. And you know what, if confronted with factual statements and arguments to the contrary they withdrawal but they don't abandon their positions.
Right now it's like arguing to a bunch of people who believe the world is flat (in the days since actually going to the moon), and no matter how much evidence you show them, no matter what you try to argue, nothing gets through.
So are these people acting on blind faith?

I sent the following suggestions about the web site into MyBO this afternoon, but the autoanswer strongly implies they will not get looked at. You'd think they'd want user feedback...
I have been using mybarackobama.com a lot this summer and I have some suggestions about the web site.
For example, SHOWBAMA your colors, nationwide on August 30th,
http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/communityservice/44dr5
Please Donate Party!! On the Obama blog
http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/fundraising/44jkc
NYC Faith Outreach – Research from home
http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/organizing/4lwr
and many more.
The problem is that you only see the ones that were somehow tagged as being “near” the zip code you type in. My suggestion is to make a new category of nationwide, from home, indefinite duration events. I would immediately take advantage of it to publicize my idea of sending bumper stickers to swing states to be given away.
A few minor points
Profile pages of people with lots and lots of friends seem to take forever to load.
When you buy at the STORE, although it counts as a donation, it doesn’t show up as a donation on your dashboard.
It would be nice to have a way to search for FRIENDS both by name and by zip code, not each separately.
Thanks for your time.
“The volume of messages we're receiving has gone up since Barack's victory in Iowa.”
Dear President Obama,
Yes, you're already the people's president.
I am an inmate in a Federal Prison. I want to share my view of your race to the White House.
Yes, I/we watch the news, not all inmates are dummied by the stigma of incarceration. We have our think-tank sessions just like outside society. You for president give us hope, not just inmates but America as a whole. You did that by having a different platform than other presidential candidates. You portrayed CHANGE, and your agenda was on point for primaries. You led the people of this great nation to believe that. We thought, “Finally, we have someone that is concerned FIRST for the well-being of HOME, not about what is going on around the globe somewhere.” Your concern for HOME was edifying. That is what captivated us!
However, recently your popular vote has suffered, and it has been because you have allowed McCain to "knock you off your square". You had this man well beat before you even started this last leg of the elections. But now you have let him pull you into His Platform, which is something he knows well. It looked bad and discredited your strength when you allowed the opposition to talk you into going to the Middle East. Don’t do that! Make sure that any ventures you make derive from your camp and are of your design.
Nonetheless, the people don’t really care if you know Osama Ben’ Laden’s name. You should not have even tried to apologize for that. You could have boldly said, "Whatever his name is, he is a terrorist and an enemy of this country.” Why should you be on a first name basis with him or his family, like others are? Do not follow into McCain’s territory, stick with your platform. Elaborate and expand on what you are going to do for THIS COUNTRY... America is crying for your help, we are hurting! Once you have gain the trust of the people, that you will deliver CHANGE.... you got the presidency.I/we understand that decorum of global politics is a must, but believe us, it is second to "WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR THIS COUNTRY". We are tired of selfish presidents making plans to improve gas profits and boost global growth in corporate America. Plans like these are very much against the average American. Record breaking/tripled gas profits for the petrollium indistry have tripled the prices of everyday spending- crippled our economy. Sending white collar jobs (customer support, IT, any type of help desk) to other countries to decrease employee benefit spending has increased US unemployment and poverty levels. Not everyone is acclimated to increasing skills and education, not everyone will go to college. However, people that didn’t further their education had clear career paths to aim for in customer service, white collar skills. Now all of a sudden, we're not smart enough. How did we become a people that's addicted to gas, need to improve skills and are over weight in the last 8 years? If our own president publicly bad mouths us why wouldn't the world? We need you to speak proudly of us, restore our nation’s confidence and integrity as a people.
TO CLOSE: You asked, "Where are all the fathers?”Well, we are sitting in prisons all over this country with ungodly sentences. I'm merely an example. I am in here for possession with intent to distribute marijuana. I've never been in prison; I have no violence in my background or my entire family’s background. I had and still maintain good community and family ties. Yet I received a 30 year sentence under the Mandatory Minimums Sentencing Scheme. There’s no parole in Federal Prison, no laws to recede prison time for good time served. There's currently no way of giving this back. I made a terrible mistake. However, why is my mistake justified with a 30 year sentence while murders and rapist paroled in some cases less than 10 years? Should I be in prison for another 8 years, 11 months? I could be out there working, helping my family, paying my taxes and helping out in the community. There are many good men in here. If given a chance we could bring back the times of old where the fathers take care of their responsibilities in a respectable way. We are not scared to go into our communities and talk to the young that are now out of control. Mr. President, I am ready, willing and able to step into my father role. I just need to be freed. So the answer to your question is... a lot of those fathers are in here with me. We are being warehoused until we are ripe with age (too old to work or provide), then we will be sent out to fend for ourselves. I'm blessed to still have a family and a home, at least for a little while longer. Many don’t have that.
My wife and son keep crying out for me to come home. All I can tell them is that I am trying, and to have faith, hope and pray.
From all the fathers with good intensions in prison
And my loving family, the Ruebens'
With much respect,
Mauricio Rueben, 59216-079P.O. Box 9000Forrest City, AR 72336
Hi and welcome to WSOD: What Should Obama Do?!
Invitation to Blog. Please add to this list of ideas, opinions and topics so that Obama understands our concerns and can take action when he is in the white house. Please help out by spreading the word so that we can provide him great food for thought and a growing "to do" list!
- Boy will he be busy... TY.
Hello. Hello.
Well, we continue to organize our first Obama event. We are having a United for Change Event at our home on Saturday, June 28th. Looks like we will have about 22 attendees, all new to the campaign. Our area is very conservative so we must make the attendees feel welcome.
I would like to get some swag to hand out to everyone but do not want to spend a lot of money. I also scheduled the event for one hour. I was thinking that we could meet each other and set up a day and time to continue our discussions. I do not mind being the point man and figuring out how to use our limited resources to the best advantage but starting from zero is hard. We figure a few chips, soda, ice cold water, and lively discussion would save the day.
I also want this to be a pleasant experience so that this small group will not only return but bring their friends to the next meeting to help our group grow.
For those of you that have been at this a while, suggestions are needed to make sure that this first meeting is a very enjoyable and intelligent experience for the group.
Help, please.
OK, so maybe not the best choice for a first topic - But I do believe that it is relevant.
I am a "pro-life" woman. I hate the idea of choosing abortion over birth. However, I am also a woman who had found herself needing to make that decision in her life. Due to health, financial, and family situations I honestly believe I had no choice. I chose abortion.
With this is mind - consider this. I watch these protests - I watch these doctors and nurses putting their lives on the line to help women like me who believe that this is the "right" thing to do given their circumstances. Things are so much better than they were - I can remember a time when you couldn't go a week without hearing about violence at an abortion clinic. But, the rhetoric continues, and this political season once again brings abortion to the forefront. I want this debate to be over. But, I don't want it to be illegal. I don't want it to be a court regulated law. I want to change this issue from pro-life to pro-women.
Greetings friends.
So, I subject myself on a fairly regular basis to the likes of Neal Boortz. Don't let that turn you away. Generally I disagree with him. I do find it interesting to see what others are saying, especially when they disagree with me.
Doing so prompted me to closely examine Obama's policy proposals. One of the biggest criticisms that I hear is that Obama has no real platform, that he only offers hollow promises of change and that his supporters only parrot this emptily.
That prompted me to blog about it, hence the above.
I'm doing this every few days on my Blog <a href="http://unrestrictedwest.blogspot.com" target="blank">The Unrestricted West</a>. So far I'm up to Health Care, which I have just finished today.
Please check it out. If there are things that you think that I should highlight, please let me know. You can post it there or here.
I'll be tackling his economic policy next. I'd love any input anyone may have before I begin. I would especially like to know what contrary arguments that you've encountered.
Thanks all!
I appreciate the opportunity to offer feedback and make suggestions to see BO sit in the Oval Office next year.I thought that something was/is fishy about Karl Rove sitting down and giving you advice. Being the manipulator that he is, I think he did so because he would prefer you as an antagonist rather than Hillary Clinton. Be that as it may, nevertheless, I think he made some good points in the Newsweek article. I’ve cut and pasted them as follows:1. Your stump speech is sounding old and out of touch. . . . Come up with something fresh that's focused on the general election.2. When you get into trouble, pick one, simple explanation. And stay with it. It would have been better to say from the start that Wright's words were wrong and offensive and you should have spoken out earlier. The applause would have been deafening.3. Your lack of achievements undercuts your core themes. You don't have a long Senate record of working across party lines. So build one. In the coming months, say that you'll appoint Republicans to your cabinet and get a couple to say they'd serve. Highlight initiatives Republicans can agree on. Most importantly, push for a bipartisan issue now before Congress.4. You speak of the "fierce urgency of now" that calls leaders to confront important challenges. What urgent issues have drawn your enormous talents? It's counterintuitive, but spend less time campaigning and more time working the Senate.
5. Stop the attacks.[!] They undermine your claim to a post-partisan new politics. You soared when you seemed above politics, lost altitude when you did what you criticize.6. To answer growing questions about your inexperience, people need to know, in concrete and credible ways, what they can expect from you as president. That's missing now. Americans want to see your passion and commitment to things they care about, in ways that give them confidence you're up to the job. They can smell when something is poll-tested and focus-grouped, not from the heart. You have talent, intelligence and tapped into something powerful early in your campaign. But running for president is unlike anything you've ever done. You're making mistakes and making people worry that you're an elitist. So while you'll almost certainly win the nomination, Democrats are nervous about the fall. You've given them reasons to be.
DEAR BARACK
