All it takes is change with a new fresh look and two bright smart hansome men too refine it, "Bacrack Obama" and "Joe Biden"
I lost my appetite watching the bit with Palin implying Obama had "terrorist ties" [never specifying the type of "terrorist" - anti-war back in Nam] and her stating the gloves had to come off 'cuz we're less than a month away [horrors] and then went on to state that "we" are the americans.
So, why can't we do the same? Sure intellectual plans are great for the mostly converted -- we eat these ideas up, but we need to take a page from the Reps and try some easy attacks counterpointed by our fabulousness, or fellow "Mainstreeters" or even political plans, but how about using some of their way too succesful tactics such as an ad where she speaks to the fact that we are just plain Americans at the end of her attack on Obama and counter with:
The typical American? How can she dare say that she is like "the good American people" and is a Maverick and Rebel who wants to challenge government intervetion in our lives, when she BANS BOOKS?
Or just what is her personal "just plain folx" economic household worth? I heard it's close to 1 million. How can that person sounding 'folksy' be able to relate to me?
And let's not forget that she can't keep communications going within her own home, teaching her right wing fanatical belief about sex prior to marriage when her own daughter rebels, or was she just uneducated enough to know to use protection during sex?
She appears to be an attractive woman, yet she walks the walk and talks the talk of a mysogist man. No woman would ever be able to justify charging $1200 to suspected rape victims to have the rape kit test. What does she think..that the victim was "asking for it"? Even if the perp was found guilty, there is no refunding then. A woman doesn't punish women, nor take away the very rights that were won so dearly, the right that allows one to be in control over her own body.
There are sound bites to be had and sloganized so they are remembered now abd become a part of our normal dialogue & speak to more people than theirs.
Here's a few things I wish Obama would hammer home:
The information to kill McCain's "Family Values" arguement are readily available to the public. He not only had an affair with Cindy McCain after his first wife had been in an accident, but he also left his first wife and married into Cindy's wealth. Clearly against America's family values. Yet, those on the right readily ignore this. It's time to take the arguement back and show them the hypocrisy.
On the same level, we also need to steal the neo-con's thunder when it comes to elitists. It's clear that Senator McCain has far more reasons to be called elitist that Senato Obama. With seven houses, McCain's arguements become silly and without merit. I've created designs reinforcing this line of thought, and my wife has added them to her online shop over at darkwolf-designs.com. That might sound like a sales pitch, but more than anything, it's a link for you to go and get ideas from. I currently have two designs, one for each topic: "John McCain Has 7 Homes. Who's The Real Elitist" and "John McCain Cheated On His First Wife. Family Values? I Think Not."
I'm not asking you to buy anything, but I am asking you to start using similar slogans. Senator Obama will probably never say anything concerning this, and I don't think he should. That's where we, the people on the ground come in. We CAN mention this points, without tying the statements to Senator Obama.
However, we need to keep them short and to the point, something I've suggested that Senator Obama do with his own statements. Keep it simple, make it a catchphrase, and pound it home until it becomes like one of those songs you just can't get out of your head. Let it be playing in the minds of the people as they make their ways to the polls on November 4th.
It's hard for the brilliant candidate who is perfectly-suited and even-tempered to be President, to campaign with short and sharp responses. The t.v. is not the genteel Senate floor. It's "lie," not "pushing the edge of spin beyond the bounds." The voter trying to fathom spin has already mentally reached for the remote.
The best slogans (whether or not invented by the campaign) live on to identify the successful candidate: "It's the economy, stupid!" "Are you better off than you were four years ago?" "Happy Days are Here Again" (FDR) "Give 'em Hell, Harry." And for the poeticallly-inclined: "I like Ike," "All the Way with LBJ," "Tippecanoe and Tyler Too."
The dullest slogans employ generic, overused words, e.g, America and even change. "America Needs a Change." (Walter Mondale). "Let America be America Again." (John Kerry). "The Better Man for a Better America" (Bob Dole). "Prosperity and Progress" (Al Gore). "True Strength for America's Future" (Mitt Romney). "Yes We Can!" was the slogan for Bush-Cheney in 2004 and for Birch Bayh in 1976.
Guess which of the following bumper stickers I'd plaster on the car:
a. "Change You Can Believe In"
b. "No Way, No How, No McSame."
c. "It's Still the Economy, Stupid!"
Maybe it doesn't matter. My car isn't going anywhere near the battleground states.
The new bumper stickers say Obama-Biden.I just now thought that this is too, too similar to Osama Bin-Ladin and some right winger is going to take advantage of the similarity in a slur. Just you wait. The political cartoonists and the bumper sticker Swiftboaters are running the presses now. Some fundies might even take it as a warning from God. Say it often.
2. the first line is: Obama, O8.
The second line is: Get out and vote. Participate.
Obama, 08, Obama 08. Gets repetitive, doesn't get votes, or participation, things Obama needs. So:
Obama, 08, Get out and vote. Participate!

Good for parades and rallies. Voting and participation are the action part of enthusiasm, they go beyond the name and date. It's a jingle that will stick in everybody's head. Later, with luck, people will get out and vote, they will participate.
3. The downfall of presidents is groupthink -- the invulnerability of being in office surrounded by like minded people. Bay of Pigs, good example. Getting rid of Colin Powell, good example. how will Barack keep hearing his critics voices when he's in the White House? It's critical for long term success.

The trickle down theory, which actually means what it says, i.e. everything stays at the top, except the little bits that accidentally trickle down!
In moving on from the primary, Reagan was able to sell the ultra conservative agenda to the public via his ability to speak in a powerful way. He presented many simple slogans that people could remember. One of the things I would like to see Obama do during his campaign is to start debunking those myths thereby taking this powerful tool away from the Republicans. The slogans are almost without exception contradictory, if not down right nonsensical. The approach I am thinking of is to counter the slogans with equally powerful counter slogans, but not on the cheap. It needs to be done carefully. When McCain says "Tax and Spend Liberal" Obama first explains his point in detail then says something like "it is not the liberals who caused this, it is the Borrow and Keep Republicans! The Borrow and Keep Republicans are not even conservatives, true conservatives are people of high moral values, these politicians are not of high moral values! These politicians have been robbing the poor and giving to the rich for the past 27 and a half years, depriving the vast majority of Americans of their fair share. It is time we stopped these borrow and keep Republican Politicians!" (Two key points: 1. 27 years, including Bill Clinton in that group, where he belongs. 2. Targeting the politicians, not conservatives is key; these people are using conservatives, not supporting them. Not that I agree with conservatives on any level, but at least they have some convictions, all be they misguided ones and I am less offended by that then the people who abuse their naivete for personal gain!) Someone smart should go through each of the Republican slogans and derive answers to them, similar to the one above (read Don't Think of an Elephant! for more details)... then just wait for McCain to step in the trap.
