There has been so much too and fro about whether he is or his not. Has no one chosen to listen to the man? Are they all comfortable listening and believing all the divisive slurs on this patriotic man who happens to be Black? I didn’t notice skin color until they all insisted, now they want me to believe their negative things about him. I look and I listen and yes, I do hear his oratory ability although some have criticized that too as his ability to read a prompter. What ever he does, he is criticized by the few that will not listen. None are as blind as those who choose not to see.
This Race
There has been much divisiveness and polarizing ado
He’s been treated unfairly by McCain and Palin too
I listened as they tried to reduce Barack
Slurs of narcissist, terrorist and he’s an elitist Black
Recently he’s a socialist and some even call him
A sexist, misogynist and an unpatriotic Muslim
Call Barack all these divisive terms but they will never derail
Every positive seed he has planted on his Campaign trail
I lost my appetite watching the bit with Palin implying Obama had "terrorist ties" [never specifying the type of "terrorist" - anti-war back in Nam] and her stating the gloves had to come off 'cuz we're less than a month away [horrors] and then went on to state that "we" are the americans.
So, why can't we do the same? Sure intellectual plans are great for the mostly converted -- we eat these ideas up, but we need to take a page from the Reps and try some easy attacks counterpointed by our fabulousness, or fellow "Mainstreeters" or even political plans, but how about using some of their way too succesful tactics such as an ad where she speaks to the fact that we are just plain Americans at the end of her attack on Obama and counter with:
The typical American? How can she dare say that she is like "the good American people" and is a Maverick and Rebel who wants to challenge government intervetion in our lives, when she BANS BOOKS?
Or just what is her personal "just plain folx" economic household worth? I heard it's close to 1 million. How can that person sounding 'folksy' be able to relate to me?
And let's not forget that she can't keep communications going within her own home, teaching her right wing fanatical belief about sex prior to marriage when her own daughter rebels, or was she just uneducated enough to know to use protection during sex?
She appears to be an attractive woman, yet she walks the walk and talks the talk of a mysogist man. No woman would ever be able to justify charging $1200 to suspected rape victims to have the rape kit test. What does she think..that the victim was "asking for it"? Even if the perp was found guilty, there is no refunding then. A woman doesn't punish women, nor take away the very rights that were won so dearly, the right that allows one to be in control over her own body.
There are sound bites to be had and sloganized so they are remembered now abd become a part of our normal dialogue & speak to more people than theirs.
I know this will be somewhat inflammatory, so I welcome commentary (responsible and thoughtful, please).
John McCain's pick of Sarah Palin for Vice President was sexist.
Defining a sexist as "a man with a chauvinistic belief in the inferiority of women" as is found on dictionary.reference.com, I will outline how I come up with this statement.
The McCain belief in Palin's political and experiential inferiority is evidenced by her insulation from at-will press probes.
The initial Palin speech inviting disgruntled Hillary voters to come over to their side was an attempt to reach people whose vote would be based solely upon the genitalia of the candidate. Imagine someone saying "and I invite all you white who were disappointed in the Democratic result to come join us" - the press would have had a field day. How is this different? Not giving credit to even a small section of female voters to look beyond the gender of the candidate is belittling and assumes an intellectual inferiority.
Sure was an interesting diversion from meaningful discussion of the issues last week when Sen McCain admonished Obama on Barack's alledgely "sexist" remark; e.g. Obama said that McCain's policies are warmed over failed Bush policies, with a bit of window dressing, or shall I say it aloud, still a pig (actually a whole heard of pigs) with lipstick.
Now, Barack was clearly not referring to Gov Palin, as mentioned above; he was speaking of McCain's policies. So, maybe it is inherently sexist to use "pig" and "lipstick" in the same sentence??? It turns out that McCain knows the phrase well and has used it several times over the years. In fact, Jon Stewart's Daily Show found four video clips of McCain using the phrase, most recently to describe Hillary Clinton's policies (does that make Hillary a pig?); link to video
Maybe using the term "lipstick" combined with any non-humanoid animal is inherently "sexist" to woman (and least we forget the growing community of metro-sexual males)??? This definition of "sexism" would damn Gov. Sarah as she repeats the hockey mom/pit bull joke at every stump speech. I suspect the membership of the American Staffordshire Terrier kennel club is working themselves into a lather over the nasty slight to their beautiful animals by Gov. Pailin (some of those hockey moms are TOUGH looking, probably from taking one too many slap-shots from the blue line!).
All this makes me very confused. What is it to be "sexist"? Was Sarah Palin enabling a blatantly sexist exhibition by parading about in her swimsuit to compete in the Ms. Wassilla competition?
One thing I know IS sexist, and down-right vile, are the statements John McCain has made over the years about women, including his famous gorilla rape joke and calling his ex-wife a c*nt. Given McCain's poor record of insensitivity towards woman, maybe, just maybe, he ought not lecture Obama on the sins of sexist statements and actions.
You have to love the "family values" ticket.
"John McCain says he's about change too, and so I guess his whole angle is, 'Watch out George Bush -- except for economic policy, health care policy, tax policy, education policy, foreign policy and Karl Rove-style politics -- we're really going to shake things up in Washington. That's not change. That's just calling something the same thing something different. You know you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig. You know you can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change, it's still going to stink after eight years. We've had enough of the same old thing."
Seems like McCain is pretty desperate to have pushed his latest lie out there regarding pigs and lipstick. Maybe the key is to show them as desperate empty suits with nothing to offer but negativity and more of Bush.
When ever I see McBush out there doing his old man walk, waving his arms around and parading Palin around like this somehow makes him virile again, I have to wonder if I'm the only one who notices. I think not.
Barack was not talking or referring to Palin, this is clear. But what's funny is that by inventing this supposed slur, McBush and company are giving the idea some validity. You can dress her up as a "Hockey Mom," or anything else and she's still an empty suit. The McBush campaign is really putting that notion out there by what their doing and they are the one's who are sexist. Maybe it would be good if everyone started to think about this.

McCain even said really terrible things about Hillary Clinton during the primaries and now he dares to cry foul? Click on the link below to read more....

McCain also criticized the health care proposals of Democratic presidential candidates as attempts at a "one-size-fits-all, big government takeover of health care" (CQ HealthBeat, 10/11). He said that the proposal recently announced by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) is "eerily" similar to the plan she proposed in the 1990s. He added, "I think they put some lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig" (New York Times, 10/12).
Dear Senator Obama,
The positive feelings amplified during your nomination speech have, on my part, disintegrated into the political numbness that has gripped my generation for the almost 2 decades.
The mind-blowing lies and idiocy from McCain's campaign is turning my stomach. And as a mother, I am terrified what of what our country will become if McCain's painted pig wins the election.
If I was in your shoes, sir, I do not believe I would have the awesome restraint and utter class you have shown in the face of this relentless assault. I am, however, simply a lowly Ivy League-educated writer who can only imagine what I would say to McCain if, in some strange parallel universe, I were you.
Here are the top 3 lines I would say to McCain:
1. McCain, if you were so confident why are you hiding behind Palin's skirt? Why are you afraid to stump without her?
2. McCain, why when the media seeks to do its job in the public vetting of your VP, you cry "sexism?" Do you not think Palin is strong enough to stand up to the process?
3. McCain, are you sexist enough to think we American women are just mindless sheep who will vote for your VP simply because she's a woman?
Please continue focusing on the issues as this is what we need. But please also consider these suggestions. The entire world knows our country needs you. We, your 18,000,000+ supporters, have your back. Now go out there and kick McCain's ass up and down the block.
Sincerely,
Ife Oshun
Is Obama less patriotic than you and John McCain? Does he keep country behind his party and his family? Are his decisions, views and values based on sexism? Is he a liberal and leftist who, should not be allowed to be the president of the United States of America?
The religious, or nationalist, or right or left fundamentalists accuse those people as liberals, who accept the diversity of beliefs and thoughts. Don't you think that George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and other founding fathers of America were liberals of their times? Abraham Lincoln was a liberal of his time. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a liberal for his times. Do you think they were conservatives? The conservatives swear by the constitution created by the liberals and they accuse that the liberals do not believe, or follow the constitution by the letter. Most of the liberals follow and believe the constitution and the holy books by its spirit rather than by its letters. I think the fundamentalists don’t understand the spirit of the constitution or the holy books. So they try to go by the letters and they want others to be like them.
I am running into Sarah Palin "risque" photos ALL OVER THE PLACE. Some are nude, some in bikini, etc - and I'm almost certain that 100% of them are photo shopped.
My suspicion is that Republicans POSING as Obama supporters are creating them and/or spreading them around as if they are real.
They are NOT REAL.
Please do not fall into the trap of distributing them - such a thing will only make us look sexist, judgmental, and downright nasty. This will only generate great empathy from female voters who also encountered sexism on the campaign trail with Senator Hillary Clinton.
Thank you for listening.
Ben Smith from Politico has more on that biker rally McCain attended in Sturgis, South Dakota.
Meanwhile at a biker rally in Sturgis, South Dakota, John McCain appears to have volunteered his wife for a topless beauty pageant: McCain felt so comfortable at the event that he even volunteered his wife for the rally’s traditional beauty pageant, an infamously debauched event that’s been known to feature topless women. “I encouraged Cindy to compete,” McCain said to cheers. “I told her with a little luck she could be the only woman ever to serve as first lady and Miss Buffalo Chip.” As a reader emails, "Miss Buffalo Chip has 'been known to feature topless women' in the same way that Guns and Ammo magazine has been known to feature firearms." Indeed, an ESPN.com columnist describes it as "occasionally bottomless."

On the radio this morning, there was another assertion that Obama's "Camp" had reinserted the issue of sexism into the campaign. Let's think for a moment. It was Hillary and her "Camp" that raised these issues:
"I'm wearing pantsuits because I can wear the pants"
Testicular Fortitude
"If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen"
"There are no whiners in the White House"
"The Nutcracker"
Make Rocky Balboa "look like a pansy"
Ferraro is again attacking Obama today saying that he is sexist and she might not vote for him.
I wonder how many Clinton supporters are contacting Pelosi or Dean and saying, "see, he won't get the female vote".
Why are people 'colour-blind' when they are not 'gender-blind?
Many people (White ones mainly) are always keen to boast how 'colour-blind' they are. But if race and gender are the two key aspects which make up our identity, why are they not gender-blind too? Yet, in view of the rush of female support for Hillary Clinton in the New Hampshire primary, women who openly admitted rallying behind her because they perceived she had been treated in a 'sexist' manner by the media, they are certainly NOT gender-blind too. We tend to acknowledge women first, then worry about how they fit in with our perspectives later. We don't believe they are pseudo-men to make ourselves feel better. And very few men would boast of being a woman! They value their masculine persona and are proud of it.
