They're not much happier about a revised version that aides to Sen. Jay Rockefeller, a West Virginia Democrat, have spent months drafting behind closed doors. CNET News has obtained a copy of the 55-page draft of S.773 (excerpt), which still appears to permit the president to seize temporary control of private-sector networks during a so-called cybersecurity emergency."

Any politician that votes for, or is in support of, this bill (or any resemblance of this bill) will lose my vote and should lose every vote. DO NOT MAKE THIS MISTAKE Washington. I will personally go door to door and convience any and all voters that all supporters of this idea should be fired. I know I will not get them all, but I have a feeling no one can afford the votes. What good is health care without liberty (on or off the net)?

The Lion Of The Senate
This death, although we tried to prepare
Has grabbed tightly, people everywhere
Every political figure and every constituent
Lost this iconic figure and his needed involvement
I watched closely and read how he
Organized bipartisanship and caused both sides to agree
No other senator served in this way
Only he made crossing sides seem okay
Forty seven year he worked hard to enact legislation
The Cancer, Disabilities, Civil Rights Acts. Nationality and Immigration
Health Insurance, Children’s Health program, Mental Health Parity
Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, most recently
Senator Kennedy worked with President Bush, the two parties combined
Enacted in 2002 an educational Act, No Children Left Behind
Numerous other bills, over 300, in his political odyssey
Are now part of the Lion’s great legacy
Ted passed the torch to Barack before he passed away
Expecting Americans will enjoy Universal Health Care soon, one day
Senator Edward Moore “Ted” Kennedy
Shook their hands and reached across the isle
Edward “Ted” Kennedy was versatile
November 7 in 1962
Assigned to the Senate and from there this icon grew
Tragedy came to his brothers very early
Oswald shot and killed JFK then Sirhan shot and killed Bobby
Remorse clouded Ted’s good judgment they say, over these 5 years
Emotions overcame Ted and little could dry his tears
Driving from a party in ‘69 his car broke a bridge
When it overturned in the water, he escaped and fled to a ridge
Abandoning the accident where his passenger had drown
Reported his guilt of fleeing and accepted the mandate of the crown
Darkness plagued Ted and he needed great light
Mounded himself into work and there shone bright
Over the next four decades his records would show
One man who became an icon that both sides will know
Reached out first as a friend to all in the House
Encouraged all other Senators to dispel political grouse
Then get to the root of the problems before they decide
Even chose to stand in the way before them, if tempers will collide
Decades of work, he wrote over 300 bills
Kept busy, they called him “The Lion Of The Senate,” for his skills
Enormous contributions he made to affect all Americans’ lives
No other Senator has done more, I hope his legacy survives
Not through his name alone but the differences he laid
Equality, Civil Rights, universal health care and immigration aid
Dogs were his passion, sailing, fishing and saying “You tried!”
Yesterday, before midnight, Senator Edward Moore “Ted” Kennedy, died
I wrote to my Representative and my Governor, both Republicans. I wrote to them directly asking them to support the Public Plan Option on the Health Care Reform. In both cases I got either snail-mail or e-mail in reply with a canned response that included something like "The healthcare system in the United States is the best in the world"; I replied telling them that it is not the best in the world, and that their constituents knew that. The second reply from my Representative had a little more thought into it, my Senator never replied back.
It is a good idea to write to your Senator and Representative regardless if they are Democrat or Republican, and ask for the Public Plan Option. This will enourage Democrats and give them confidence, and you don't know, if the Republican Senator or Representative cares more about the constituents than about his/her party, they will probably support the Public Plan Option. I encourage you to write a personal note about why you think a public option to the health insurance policies is a good thing. Don't get too personal and always be respectful.
Here is a link that you can use to contact your Senator with a message to support a Public Plan Option; it is brought to you by Consumer Union which is a group also interested in fixing the broken health care system that we now have:
If you rather call your Senator or Representative, you can find their telephone numbers here:
If you know of any more online ready forms that we can use to contact congress, please let me know. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Soon as we got a Democrat in the White House, a bunch of Senators claiming to be Democrats rushed to show how independent they are, declaring they won’t necessarily vote in support of the President’s agenda that he was elected to enact. As a Hoosier, I’ll put Indiana’s Evan Bayh (pronounced “Bye” or “Buy”) at the top of the list.
Mr. Obama is right to allow politicians to vote their “consciences” (oxymoron is obvious). Where he’s wrong is in promising to raise money for them. I won’t give one penny to support ANY Senator who fails to toe the line and earnestly help the President do what he promised. Many promises were made. If they’re not kept because Democrats in the Senate support powerful banks and other lobbies against the people who support Mr. Obama’s agenda, then Bayh-Bayh to them come the primary.
If self-described Democrats in the Senate refuse to push through the President’s agenda, then it’s up to us to FIND SOMEONE WHO WILL. I won’t give money to or raise money for Evan Bayh or Arlen Spector or any of the approximately eight others who have declared themselves “independent” of this cause.
They want our money and votes only to betray us to the powerful lobbyists who own them. We need to start work right now finding better people to run against them in the primaries and start raising the money they’ll need to win.
We kept McCain and Palin out of the White House. We certain can put Bayh, Specter and those other eight “independent” Democrats OUT of the Senate. CHANGE is coming to America.
Why does it seem that the President is watering down his budget proposal to chase votes he won’t get? Republicans proved during the stimulus bill that despite all the concessions made to them then, they would never vote in favor of anything the President wants.
With Democrats, Independents and Moderate Republicans like me on his side, the President should focus on keeping his campaign promises because John Boaner, Mitch McConnell, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity are opposed to fresh air, sunshine and Jesus, so long as they think President Obama is in favor of them.
Mr. President, you have helped them marginalize themselves to the maximum extent imaginable. Now it’s time to stand true to your word. Frankly, not everything you promised was what I wanted, but if you do what you told us you’d do, I will continue to support you, and I will vote against those who oppose you, regardless what party they’re in.
The Senate is expected to vote on Senator John McCain's alternative budget today, as well as a number of proposed amendments. These amendments, and these votes, are where a large portion of the budget battle will be fought. Senate GOP leaders have said that they will use the amendment process to try to alter the budget rather than presenting their own, comprehensive alternative. Yesterday the Senate defeated a proposed Republican amendment that would have enacted a spending freeze on all non-defense discretionary spending in 2010, a move that would deeply undercut the effects of the President's recent stimulus package. John McCain's suggested alternative would make deeps cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, while extending the Bush tax cuts for the rich.
If you haven't already done so, there is still time to call your representatives and let them know that you support the President's budget plan, and ask them to vote against any last minute amendments that would weaken it.
As OFA Director Mitch Stewart explained in a message to supporters recently, this budget represents an historic opportunity to create jobs, restore our economy, and invest in our future. We can't let this important moment slip away.

Senators Feinstein and Bennett Urge DC Government To Reverse Emergency Alcohol Law
WASHINGTON, DC / Senator Dianne Feinstein, Chairman of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC), and Senator Bob Bennett, Member of the JCCIC and Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Rules and Administration, today urged the Mayor and City Council of Washington, DC to reverse the emergency legislation passed last week to allow bars and restaurants to sell alcohol until 5 am during the week of the inauguration.
“We have reached out to Mayor Fenty and Council Chairman Vincent Gray because of our grave concerns about the unintended consequences of this legislation,” said Senator Feinstein.
“What is clearly meant as a boon to local businesses may instead create tremendous problems for already overwhelmed law enforcement agencies.”
“Security needs to be the number one priority during the Inaugural ceremonies and extending the sale of alcohol until 5 am in DC will only divert law enforcement resources away from their primary focus on security measures and crowd safety,” said Senator Bennett.
Text of the JCCIC Letter
Dear Mayor Fenty and Council Chairman Gray: We are writing today to urge that City Council and the Mayor reverse emergency legislation approved by the Council last week that permits nightclubs, bars and restaurants to sell alcoholic beverages until 5 a.m. for four nights during the Inauguration of Barack Obama as our 44th President. With projections as high as 4 million people planning to visit the city during this time period, we are deeply concerned that the plan approved by the City Council could seriously strain law enforcement resources that need to be focused on the large crowds and security requirements of the Inaugural and its impact on the City. There is great cause for celebration at this historic event. But we believe that the benefits of this emergency legislation, passed with little public notice, are far outweighed by its possible consequences. We understand the pressures you face from the different constituencies in your city. But we also know the importance of standing firm to ensure the safety of residents, workers and visitors who will be in Washington, D.C., participating in this historic event.” Sincerely, Robert F Bennett and Dianne Feinstein

President-elect Obama Thanks the People of Illinois By Christopher Hass
Today, President-elect Barack Obama resigned his Senate seat and he sent the thank-you letter below to newspapers across Illinois:
Obama's Letter to the People of Illinois November 16, 2008BY PRESIDENT-ELECT BARACK OBAMA Today, I am ending one journey to begin another. After serving the people of Illinois in the United States Senate -- one of the highest honors and privileges of my life -- I am stepping down as senator to prepare for the responsibilities I will assume as our nation's next president. But I will never forget, and will forever be grateful, to the men and women of this great state who made my life in public service possible.More than two decades ago, I arrived in Illinois as a young man eager to do my part in building a better America. On the South Side of Chicago, I worked with families who had lost jobs and lost hope when the local steel plant closed. It wasn't easy, but we slowly rebuilt those neighborhoods one block at a time, and in the process I received the best education I ever had. It's an education that led me to organize a voter registration project in Chicago, stand up for the rights of Illinois families as an attorney and eventually run for the Illinois state Senate. It was in Springfield, in the heartland of America, where I saw all that is America converge -- farmers and teachers, businessmen and laborers, all of them with a story to tell, all of them seeking a seat at the table, all of them clamoring to be heard. It was there that I learned to disagree without being disagreeable; to seek compromise while holding fast to those principles that can never be compromised, and to always assume the best in people instead of the worst. Later, when I made the decision to run for the United States Senate, the core decency and generosity of the American people is exactly what I saw as I traveled across our great state -- from Chicago to Cairo; from Decatur to Quincy. I still remember the young woman in East St. Louis who had the grades, the drive and the will but not the money to go to college. I remember the young men and women I met at VFW halls across the state who serve our nation bravely in Iraq and Afghanistan. And I will never forget the workers in Galesburg who faced the closing of a plant they had given their lives to, who wondered how they would provide health care to their sick children with no job and little savings.Stories like these are why I came to Illinois all those years ago, and they will stay with me when I go to the White House in January. The challenges we face as a nation are now more numerous and difficult than when I first arrived in Chicago, but I have no doubt that we can meet them. For throughout my years in Illinois, I have heard hope as often as I have heard heartache. Where I have seen struggle, I have seen great strength. And in a state as broad and diverse in background and belief as any in our nation, I have found a spirit of unity and purpose that can steer us through the most troubled waters. It was long ago that another son of Illinois left for Washington. A greater man who spoke to a nation far more divided, Abraham Lincoln, said of his home, "To this place, and the kindness of these people, I owe everything." Today, I feel the same, and like Lincoln, I ask for your support, your prayers, and for us to "confidently hope that all will yet be well."With your help, along with the service and sacrifice of Americans across the nation who are hungry for change and ready to bring it about, I have faith that all will in fact be well. And it is with that faith, and the high hopes I have for the enduring power of the American idea, that I offer the people of my beloved home a very affectionate thanks.
Obama's Letter to the People of Illinois

BY PRESIDENT-ELECT BARACK OBAMA
Today, I am ending one journey to begin another. After serving the people of Illinois in the United States Senate -- one of the highest honors and privileges of my life -- I am stepping down as senator to prepare for the responsibilities I will assume as our nation's next president. But I will never forget, and will forever be grateful, to the men and women of this great state who made my life in public service possible.
More than two decades ago, I arrived in Illinois as a young man eager to do my part in building a better America.
WHO IS THAT GUY BARACK OBAMA? HE IS US.We have made historic headway by together pointing our nation in the right directions. After decades, we have America focused on the issues of fundamental importance. Now, each of us acting in concert can together move our country to lead the world to the fruitfulness of moral goodness. I have no doubts about my abilities and the abilities of fellow Americans to work smart and hard to achieve these goals.Barack Obama has the visions, leadership, and integrity for us to correct and redirect our country to once again lead the world for the fruitions of good. Let's closely listen, learn, and move forward based on that which we know deep inside is good and which we can validate with our hearts. I hope that those who had but a few reasons to support Obama, look further into the other issues more deeply. I found the more I explored, studied, and listened to Obama the more I found us in agreement. The couple of issues that I did not have depth of knowledge of, quickly became obvious in need. This was unusual for me since I have always refused to be any kind of a follower, and still am not. I find Obama to be a deep thinker who is articulate and inspirational; and, of most fundamental importance, Obama makes excellent moral sense.Hopefully, our country has learned lessons from the past of mistakenly following leadership blindly, as was done with Nixon and Bush. There are leaders who are simply in it for themselves and will cater to individuals or groups in order to grab for their own benefit. Corrupt and bad leaders hide at all levels. This is especially true in city government as well as county and state government. The corrupt deals of politicians need to be exposed, and those responsible need to be weeded out in the coming local elections. Others need to be investigated by law enforcement and be prosecuted for illegal dealings; for deals they often make for their hidden personal agendas. Let’s look at the bad experiences of the past as bitter medicines, let’s eliminate the need for such bad medicine in the future. Let us use what we know is good to go forward.I believe we have chosen wisely, not by greed and not by misguided retaliatory anger. I believe this time our country has chosen with open eyes, with each of us listening and examining our choice of leadership closely, driven and validated by our hearts.I hope we can continue to make our efforts even more inclusive (in many more ways than I touch on here). Far right republicans will be stubborn to change, but we will need to include them to change if we are to succeed. Sure a few more will leave our country, but that is not the American way. No, we really don't need their false fronts of power, money, insider knowledge, or other trappings that they have taught many to 'respect?'. Let's recruit as many as we can, that's the American way, evolving and changing together as one nation. Try to be understanding as we move forward; by better understanding each as individuals and people with various desires and needs we will find ways to reach out with friendship and have them join our causes of good.Be on the lookout, and root out bad leadership in government and business. Do not be intimidated by those who use the false fronts of power and give a false sense of security in order to lead. Be extra leery of those who say or imply ‘Trust me’; those who give a sense that they somehow omnipotently know better. No longer will Americans be dazzled by phony displays of brilliance or baffled by baloney. There are government aristocrats and business leaders who still believe in the old adage of: “If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, then baffle em with bullshit”. We can embrace complexity by demanding true, fundamental, and understandable explanations. We can root out falsehoods by not accepting double speak. We as Americans know how to grow ourselves by first believing in ourselves. Don’t be a follower. Don’t be a follower of followers. However, when we find leaders who are good; a leader that thinks, speaks, and acts from their heart; one that is honest, has integrity, and leads by sincere examples; then we need to in a big way, join them, support them, and promote their causes of good. From much research, investigation, and scrutiny, I believe Barack Obama is such a person. I hope we search for and find many more who are similar, who we can add to service at all levels of government. We need to add/replace leaders in business with ones that have honesty, integrity, and show quality in leadership. We need more people in leadership roles who are moral, like Barack Obama.Remember, we are not fighting a battle, we are the artisans and sculptors of the future for ourselves and generations to come. Rarely do societies have opportunities to make such dramatic moves forward as we now have in this opportunity of today. Take pride and practice in being inclusive as we stride forward. In moving forward, create opportunity not only for yourself, but also for all. Hope is a wonderful thing to behold; but without opportunity, hope can become but a dream never achievable. We can, will, and must, create opportunity. In the coming year I hope that we do not lose our spiritedness, but instead continue to build and make headway. I hope we all continue our campaign for change in government and business. We will succeed in moving forward once again, it will take much effort and good oversight on the part of each of us. We will make great strides in the months and years ahead in order to achieve the fruitions of good. Let's keep our enthusiasm progressing through these coming toughest of times. Let us use the light of goodness and love to motivate us with historic momentum.I have chosen Barack Obama because he best represents my deepest beliefs in America. Please take time to read the issues that Barack Obama has published on this website. Also, give your attention to see how he leads us to move our nation forward in the time ahead. Most importantly, be part of America's great future, participate in the greatness that together we will make. Participate! We will each and all flourish, if we think, speak, and act, by using the love in our hearts.

I had a dream: We are writing the year 2016, America has left behind the economy crisis of 2008 and developed to a green, social and prosperous society. The unemployment rate is down at 2.3 %, the number of poor people dropped from 37 to 9 million, the national deficit is only a fourth of that in 2008. Every American has affordable health care now, and Obama`s tax cuts have put more money into the pockets of the middle-class American, which led to higher consumption, re-fueled the economy, and created millions of new jobs. Above all 5 million new created green collar jobs and a better, more effective environmental policy with solar, wind and other renewable energies dropped America`s energy bill, air pollution and CO 2 balance by 25%, making the country cleaner and almost independent of foreign oil. America´s is about to become the world leader in green technology, especially due to the broad-scale introduction of US built hybrid cars. In foreign politics America has restored faith and regained respect in the world community of nations as a wise and peaceful mediator in all conflicts. This and other measures also led to an improvement of the national security. The dark Bush years are history and America has made the real CHANGE to a better future - YES WE COULD - And due to the great achievements of Barack Obama`s successful 8 years in national and international politics a committee was founded, proposing the extension of his presidency for 4 more years, as applied during the Roosevelt administration.
Was all of this just a dream ? - No, you can make it happen by voting for OBAMA next Tuesday - It is now up to you, America !

When Alex Haley's "Roots" debut on national television in 1977, I was just a little girl growing up on the east side of Detroit. However, I remember watching the series with my family. For me, the series was bitter-sweet. Although I was very young at the time, I was wise enough to realize, that the life of my ancestors, was a much harder life than the one I endured.
And while living in a rough neighborhood, with poor housing, and depending on the government for survival wasn't a walk in the park, the struggles of those forced into slavery, raped, brutalized, and murdered, is the most horrific event in American history.
And now, fast forward 51 years since “Roots” aired, to the year 2008, and one must ask "how far have we come?"
I say, very far!
Barack Obama is one man, among a long list of extraordinary African-Americans making a significant difference in history. Whenever I see his face, it evokes a sense of joy, respect, admiration, hope, appreciation, and excitement.
Not since the Civil Rights movement of the 60s has this country been transformed and transfixed on a movement. A movement called "Change". Barack Obama inspires me to dream big. He reminds me of those who came before him trying to make a difference.
Whenever I watch Senator Obama speak from his heart with passion, it causes me to recall great leaders like Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. One night, I watched the “I Have a Dream” speech and I thought of Senator Obama. I thought about how he is putting his life on the line to create a change in this country. That thought made me cry. I also recalled how he carries himself with grace and integrity. Even in the face of ignorance and rudeness by his opponent, he still stands tall and proud. He reminds me of Dr. King in that way. A force that can drive a people to a new place in time.
The other video clip I watched that evening was an interview with the outspoken activist El Hajj Malik el-Shabazz (Malcolm X), just days before his brutal assassination. And while too many Americans (blacks included) shy away from the legacy of Malcolm X (partly due to his former militant doctrine) it cannot be ignored that he too was a leader of his time. And like Senator Obama, he wasn't afraid to speak boldly what needs to be said, and to address the tough or unpopular issues. He reminds me of Malcolm in that way. A man who is fearless in his quest for change.
And if this country doesn’t realize the need for change; then we are indeed sleep walking.
Over the past several days, we've seen reports on the news of racist and violent outburst towards Senator Obama, coming from crowds of people supporting McCain and Palin. And we've seen neither McCain nor Palin discourage this hateful behavior. But this should come as no surprise.
We are walking the streets of a country built on the blood of slavery. A country that fought violently over segregation and discrimination. We are the descendants of a country that is still suffering from that ugly disease called racism. So these recent outburst of hatred come as no surprise to me. As such, I refuse to spend any of my time reading about it, or watching it. Instead, I will use my time to help bring this dream into a reality.
And that reality is electing Senator Barack Obama as the next United States President.
As the senator often says, "Now is the time..."
Now is the time for us to reflect back on how far we've come, and how far we have yet to travel. This election is the most vital election of my generation. Not since my late grandmother was living in the south, trying to figure out how to follow her big brothers to Detroit, and look for better jobs; has there been a more important moment in my history. Not since my mother was struggling in Detroit, and my father was fighting for his life in Vietnam; has there been a more significant moment in my history. My generation (the 70s and 80s babies) we need a movement.
This is our movement!
We must stop the foolish mindset of what W.E.B. Dubois coined, “the color line”. It’s time to step across it, erase it, and never look back. If we do, we will chart a new pathway for our children, our children's children, and the future generations of this great country.
Now is the time for us to not only put our bigotry aside, but destroy it all together. We cannot afford to live in a divide and conquer state-of-mind any further. This country is on the way to hell in a hand basket if change doesn't come. Don’t believe me? Go check the balance of your 401K. That is, if you even have a job.
Now is the time!
As the late vocalist Donny Hathaway sang, "It's been a long time coming, but I know a change is gonna come...oh yes it is."
I encourage everyone representing my generation to do your part. Make a change, and vote for Barack Obama on November 4th. Any other option is a step in the wrong direction. This is what our ancestors died for!
I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of walking backwards.
Be blessed and stay encouraged,
Mrs. Reynolds-Clarke for Obama
Senator Obama promised that while he would not throw the first punch, he would through the last. Tuesday night he threw the last punch.
The second Presidential Debate was the town hall meeting that wasn’t. Town hall meetings are supposed to be a more relaxed political discussion with questions from the audience and interaction between the candidates. Instead we ended up with what felt like a drier standard debate where the candidates could walk around, and the moderator seemed to be part of the action. What little action there was.
What little action there was included the ‘last punch’ that was promised by Senator Obama a few days before. It was really more of a left-right combination. Nonetheless, it had all the appearance of a knock-out blow.
